Swastyayana 1.22.2-3
The swastyayana is a ceremony consisting of benedictions by brahmins after presentation of offerings. Aitareya Brahmana: ‘The gods said, Gayatri, get the royal soma for us’. ‘All right’, she said, ‘consecrate me with the prayers of swastyayana’. She then flew up. The gods consecrated her: ‘preti cheti cheti’. This is all ‘Preti cheti cheti. Go safe and come back safe’.
Mother’s wishes count more than others wishes. In the Mahabharata, Duryodhana, wishing victory over the Pandavas, prayed his mother Gandhari, all the eighteen days before starting for the battlefield saying, ‘Wish me well, O mother, as I proceed to fight the enemy’. She, too, said (every time) he sought her blessings, ‘Victory is where dharma is’. And did not perform the swastyayana. Vyasa explains this in the Striparva.
In Ayodhyakanda Rama inplored Kausalya, to perform the swastyayana for him and she said, “May that ‘Dharma’ protect you everywhere, O brave son of the Raghus, I give you the blessings that Vinata gave to Suparna as he prayed for nectar. Aditi performed mangala for Indra who wished to kill the sons of Diti. The same blessings I give you”.
Mantragrama 1.22.12
‘Mantragrama’ means collection of mantras of the two powers Bala and Atibala. They help remove the fatigue and fear when repeated.
