‘I feel that the two demons are as good as slain by Rama. He is mahatman.’ says Visvamitra. The term mahatman means his form is venerable to all and that he is master of adorable persons and is the self-brilliant Brahman. Delightful to all, he is truly valiant.
Viswamitra was quite sure that killing of demons was not a herculean task for Rama, the controller of Brahma, since the demons were merely born in the due course of Brahman’s creation of the universe. Here one may like to know how the seer knows Rama to be the embodiment of the Supreme Self. The Shruti clearly asserts, ‘One who does not know, knows it. He, who knows it, knows it not” (KenaU 2.3). To this, we say that all the Shrutis negate the complete knowledge of the Paramatman. Speech returns with the mind without attaining the Brahman’.
