Kaikeyi’s reaction to Dasaratha’s decision to go with Rama 2.36.10-14
Kaikeyi was unhappy with peoples’ censure. Reacting to Rama’s exile along with the army for merely hurting meek monsters, she became reluctant to send them with Rama. But, afraid of the king’s wrath, she did not say this. Nevertheless expressed herself thus: “O King, Bharata will not rule the state deserted by the people. Whom will he pay homage to, when there is no elder person like you? For him, the kingdom will be worthless just as people dislike wine divested of its spiritual part.”
With love for Rama, and his truthfulness to the pledge, Kaikeyi told Dasaratha “Let Rama go alone, abandoning the glory of sovereignty, like Asamanja, the elder son of Sagara, whom his father expelled. The king Dasaratha paid no heed to the example, saying it does not fit in the context. Kaikeyi did not mind his words.
