Landing on the other bank of the river, the army, purified in Vasistha’s company, marched on to the forest of Prayaga on an auspicious hour called maitra, which commenced on the third period of time (that is, after 96 minutes of sunrise). On reaching the forest, Bharata halted the army, and set out to the penance grove of Bharadwaja.
The seer, the knower of Parambrahman, was the foremost among those who thoroughly studied the Vedas with auxiliary texts, and hence, attained the name Vipra. Born of Brhaspati and wife of the seer Utathya (the son of Angiras and the elder brother of Brhaspati), he obtained the status of the gods’ priest. On reaching near the ascetic grove, Bharata beheld a lovely thick forest interspersed with leaf-huts.
