Rama questions Lakshmana for leaving Sita alone 3.58.1-20
As I saw you coming here leaving Sita alone, my mind is apprehending a great calamity in the form of Sita’s abduction by the demons. My mind is really troubled. Or, since my mind is apprehending a calamity that Sita might have been taken away by rakshasas it must be true.”
Rama questioned Lakshmana “Did you come suspecting my inability in killing the rakshasas or on account of Sita’s words? Or did you come thinking that you will be censured in the world due to Sita’s harsh statements? Or did you come merely because you could not bear the harsh words of Sita?” Rama supposes these three alternatives and rejected the first with duskrtam etc. “Even knowing well that I am competent to eradicate the rakshasas you came here alone leaving Sita. This is a wrong deed. He rejected the second alternative anena etc. Were you enraged by the angry remarks of Sita who said that you had ulterior motives and had come to the forest on the orders of Bharata?” Rama rejected the third alternative with nahi te etc. “I am not happy with you, because you came here taking the words of an angry woman seriously. What do angry women not say? Just on account of that, you left Sita alone and came here. You have done something that is unacceptable by moral standards. You did not obey my orders. Just because Sita became angry and you lent yourself to your feelings.”
