The commentator gives the real meaning of Ravana’s reply.
The apparent meaning of Ravana’s reply to Sita is, “My passion for you is controlling my anger just as a charioteer controls the horses that run on the wrong path. The real meaning is – “my devotion to you, i.e. my favourite deity controls my anger which is natural for me born in the dynasty of rakshasas.”
Here (krodha) anger, rage etc., means the group of six enemies.
The real meaning of the two slokas (5 and 6) is, ‘If Sita says “you (Ravana) should never be talked to since you desire to kill me and thus you are engaged in killing a woman,” he replies,“you are my favourite deity. You are devoted to my Lord Rama. I will never harm you I do not kill a woman even if she deserves to be killed or to be insulted.”
The real meaning is, “Whatever harsh things you may tell me, on account of each of them, capital punishment should be awarded to me.”
Ravana says: “only two months remain. I have to wait for that period. Therefore you should come to my bed.” The apparent meaning is after two months, the rakshasas will prepare you for my breakfast in the kitchen any morning. The real meaning is ‘you can kill me after two months.’
The word “Krodha Samrambha Samyutah” (one filled with anger and excitement) tells the nature of rakshasas. Ravana tells Sita who was sorrowful due to separation and devoid of food and sleep. The real meaning of these three slokas (7-9) is, “O Lakshmi, O Sita, I had fixed the duration of twelve months. Out of them, I have to wait for two months only now and not more than that. Then you will obtain even my Rajyalkshmi. Who does not like your husband? They kill many animals in my kitchen for breakfast and you may eat them.”
