‘Would Rama give up his life without any reliable information whether I am alive or not?’ is the question that comes to Sita’s mind. The commentator says that ‘Rama knows what is atma and what is anatma. Sita therefore has no purpose to serve since Rama is already a liberated soul being a Brahmatma. Therefore Sita thinks whether Rama is not acting on account of renunciation of actions (as a liberated soul)’.
(Nastyapasyatah) The purport is, ‘Is it because I am not seen Rama does not feel for my loss? Rama is not ungrateful because it is only ungrateful men who destroy those who seek shelter’.
‘apriyadadhikam bhavet’, another reading is, apriyadadhikam bhayam na ‘The great men are not unhappy over getting undesired things’ is the purport of the latter reading. The commentator opines ‘the intention of Sita is ‘may I also become equal to the great sages by offering obeisance to them’.
