Division of Payasa 1.16.26-29

The payasa is divided into eight parts. Brahma Vidya has also eight parts. When the payasa is divided into two equal parts, one contains the Puspavat, Bhaskar, Sarasvati and Svayambhu parts while the other comprises Candra, Rajit, Saci and Indra parts.
The first part was given to the chief queen Kausalya, which is the Svayambhu (creator) part. Then it was divided into two and half of it was given to Sumitra, who was the follower of Yoga-Pradhana of Kausalya. This is the Bhaskara part, which went into the making of Lakshmana.
The part of payasa, which Kausalya received contained Dhi, Svayambhu and Soura parts. Therefore, Rama has the inner strength of Lord Hiranyagarbha (cosmic form of God), Half of the payasa was given to Kaikeyi. That was also divided into two parts, half of which was given to Sumitra. This part resulted in Satrughna. Therefore Bharata has Virat which is the full strength, whereas Lakshmana and Satrughna have medium strength. Lord Rama has Svarat, which is Hiranyagarbha himself. This is the metaphysical meaning and now the literal meaning. King Dasaratha gave half the payasa to Kausalya. Then a quarter part was offered to Sumitra. The other half went to Kaikeyi but again a quarter part to Sumitra. Thus the king divided the payasa among his queens.
