Ganga brought the tejas (energy) out of the streams and left it by the side of the Himalayas. When that energy came out of Ganga and searched the earth, it looked like gold which is found in Jambu river known as ten-coloured gold (dasavarnasuvarna). Then, after the impurities were removed, it became hiranya which is worthy of being given as a gift (daksina) and made into ornaments. In the Vedas the term hiranya is common to both gold and silver. When the impurities are removed, various metals are obtained. When druta is pierced, gold is obtained, when gandha is pierced, silver is obtained, when tailsnya is pierced, copper and other metals are obtained and when mala is pierced, tin and lead are obtained. Thus various metals became plentiful.
The entire mountain became golden-hued due to its association with the seed. When that seed turned into gold rupavedhi jatah it came to be known as Jatarupa by its association.
