The sport of hunting 2.49.13-17

Hunting provides for the gratification of kings. Accompanied by expert bowmen in summer they would march into the jungles and enjoy hunting. The word ‘hi’ in verse 15 suggests this meaning. Then, a pertinent objection arises: one should avoid seven evils like women, gambling, hunting, drinking, harsh utterances, most cruel punishment and the misuse of money. How does this fit in with the enjoyment of hunting? The answer is: these seven weaknesses trouble the addicts and not the sthitaprajnas. For those who are committed to righteous rule and welfare of the subjects, this is not a sin when done within limits.
