Number of heads of Ravana 3.49.2-4


The text of Valmiki Ramayana is not consistent in mentioning the number of heads or arms Ravana had. As many times as it says he had ten heads and twenty arms so many times it says he had a single head and two arms! The substance should be, he had but one head and two arms which were enormously strong. Its exaggeration is ‘ten heads and twenty shoulders.
