[Viswamitra confers celestial weapons on Rama]

அத thereafter, மஹாயஷாஃ illustrious, விஷ்வாமித்ரஃ Visvamitra, தாஂ ரஜநீம் that night, உஷ்ய having stayed, ப்ரஹஸ்ய smiling, ராகவம் addresseing, மதுராக்ஷரம் with sweet accents, வாக்யம் these words, உவாச spoke.
The night over, illustrious Viswamitra called Rama with a sweet smile.
பரிதுஷ்டோஸ்மி பத்ரஂ தே ராஜபுத்ர! மஹாயஷஃ.
ப்ரீத்யா பரமயா யுக்தோ ததாம்யஸ்த்ராணி ஸர்வஷஃ৷৷1.27.2৷৷
ப்ரீத்யா பரமயா யுக்தோ ததாம்யஸ்த்ராணி ஸர்வஷஃ৷৷1.27.2৷৷
மஹாயஷஃ of great renown, ராஜபுத்ர O! Prince, பரிதுஷ்டஃ அஸ்மி I am extremely pleased, தே பத்ரம் May you prosper, பரமயா ப்ரீத்யா with great love and affection, யுக்தஃ filled with, அஸ்த்ராணி weapons, ஸர்வஷஃ from all over, ததாமி I shall give.
"O prince of great renown, I am extremely pleased. May you prosper! Out of great love and affection for you I shall make over all the weapons.
தேவாஸுரகணாந்வாபி ஸகந்தர்வோரகாநபி.
யைரமித்ராந் ப்ரஸஹ்யாஜௌ வஷீகரித்ய ஜயிஷ்யஸி৷৷1.27.3৷৷
தாநி திவ்யாநி பத்ரஂ தே ததாம்யஸ்த்ராணி ஸர்வஷஃ .
யைரமித்ராந் ப்ரஸஹ்யாஜௌ வஷீகரித்ய ஜயிஷ்யஸி৷৷1.27.3৷৷
தாநி திவ்யாநி பத்ரஂ தே ததாம்யஸ்த்ராணி ஸர்வஷஃ .
யைஃ by means of which, தேவாஸுரகணாந்வாபி even multitude of devatas, asuras, ஸகந்தர்வோரகாநபி nagas together with gandharvas, அமித்ராந் enemies, ஆஜௌ in the battle, ப்ரஸஹ்ய forcibly, வஷீகரித்ய taking them captives, ஜயிஷ்யஸி you will vanquish, தாநி திவ்யாநி such celestial, அஸ்த்ராணி weapons, ஸர்வஷஃ completely, ததாமி I shall give, தே பத்ரம் May you prosper.
With the help of these celestial weapons, you will vanquish even gods and demons, serpents together with gandharvas if they challenge you to a battle as enemies and take them as captives. I shall confer on you all such weapons. May you prosper!

ராகவ Rama!, மஹத் great, திவ்யம் celestial, தண்டசக்ரம் Danda chakra, தவ to you, தாஸ்யாமி I shall grant, நரஷ்ரேஷ்ட O! Best among men, மஹாபாஹோ mighty armed one, வீர heroic, ராகவ Rama, ததஃ thereafter, தர்மசக்ரம் Dharma chakra ததைவ ச also, காலசக்ரம் Kala chakra, ததா also, விஷ்ணுசக்ரம் Visnu chakra, ததைவ ச also, ஐந்த்ரம் அஸ்த்ரம் Indra-Astra, வஜ்ரம் அஸ்த்ரம் Vajra astra, ததா thereafter, ஷைவம் relating to Shiva, ஷூலவரம் superior spear, ப்ரஹ்மஷிர known as Brahma Shira, அஸ்த்ரம் astra, ஐஷீகமபி Ishika astra, அநுத்தமம் highly superior, ப்ராஹ்மம் அஸ்த்ரம் Brahma astra, தே to you, ததாமி I shall give.
Mighty armed, heroic Rama! I shall grant you the great celestial dandachakra. O best among men! I shall grant you dharmachakra, kalachakra, visnuchakra, indraastra, vajraastra and the great, trident of Siva, brahmashirastra, ishika astra and highly superior brahmaastra.
கதே த்வே சைவ காகுத்ஸ்த மோதகீ ஷிகரீ உபே৷৷1.27.7৷৷
ப்ரதீப்தே நரஷார்தூல ப்ரயச்சாமி நரிபாத்மஜ.

காகுத்ஸ்த born in the race of Kakutstha, நரஷார்தூல best among men, நரிபாத்மஜ O! Prince, Rama, ப்ரதீப்தே shining, த்வே two, மோதகீ ஷிகரீ Modaki and Shikhari, கதே two Maces, உபே both of them, ப்ரயச்சாமி I shall give.
Born in the race of kakutstha and a tiger among men, O Rama! I shall also grant two shining maces known as modaki and shikhari.
தர்மபாஷமஹஂ ராம! காலபாஷஂ ததைவ ச৷৷1.27.8৷৷
பாஷஂ வாருணமஸ்த்ரஂ ச ததாம்யஹமநுத்தமம்.
பாஷஂ வாருணமஸ்த்ரஂ ச ததாம்யஹமநுத்தமம்.
ராம O! Rama, அஹம் I, தர்மபாஷம் Dharma Pasa, ததைவ ச and also, காலபாஷம் Kala Pasa, வாருணம் relating to Varuna, பாஷம் Pasa, அஸ்த்ரஂ ச and also an astra, அநுத்தமம் ச highly superior, ததாமி I shall grant.
Rama, I shall grant dharmapasa, kalapasa, varuna pasa, too unique weapons.
அஷநீ த்வே ப்ரயச்சாமி ஷுஷ்கார்த்ரே ரகுநந்தந৷৷1.27.9৷৷
ததாமி சாஸ்த்ரஂ பைநாகமஸ்த்ரஂ நாராயணஂ ததா.
ததாமி சாஸ்த்ரஂ பைநாகமஸ்த்ரஂ நாராயணஂ ததா.
ரகுநந்தந O! Descendent of Raghu, Rama, ஷுஷ்கார்த்ரே Shuska and Ardra, (dry and wet), த்வே two, அஷநீ thunderbolts, பைநாகம் அஸ்த்ரம் Painaka astra, ததா and, நாராயணம் அஸ்த்ரம் Narayana astra, ததாமி I shall grant.
O descendant of Raghu! I shall grant you two thunderbolts named shuska and ardra (dry and wet), painaka astra and narayanaastra.
ஆக்நேயமஸ்த்ரஂ தயிதஂ ஷிகரஂ நாம நாமதஃ৷৷1.27.10৷৷
வாயவ்யஂ ப்ரதநஂ நாம ததாமி ச தவாநக .
வாயவ்யஂ ப்ரதநஂ நாம ததாமி ச தவாநக .
அநக O! Blemishless one, நாமதஃ by name, ஷிகரஂ நாம well-known as Sikhara, தயிதம் a dear one, ஆக்நேயம் அஸ்த்ரம் Agneya astra, ப்ரதநஂ நாம by name Prathana, வாயவ்யம் Vayavya astra, தவ to you, ததாமி shall grant.
O blemishless Rama! I shall grant you agneyaastra known as sikhara which is my
favour weapon and vayavyaastra known as prathana৷৷
அஸ்த்ரஂ ஹயஷிரோ நாம க்ரௌஞ்சமஸ்த்ரஂ ததைவ ச.
ஷக்தித்வயஂ ச காகுத்ஸ்த! ததாமி தவ ராகவ৷৷1.27.11৷৷

காகுத்ஸ்த born in the Kakutstha race, ராகவ Rama!, ஹயஷிரோ நாம named Hayasira, அஸ்த்ரம் astra, ததைவ ச also, க்ரௌஞ்சமஸ்த்ரம் Krauncha astra, ஷக்தித்வயஂ ச two powers, தவ to you, ததாமி I shall grant.
O Rama! bron in the Kakutstha race, I shall grant you two powers named hayasira (Horse head) and kraunchaastra.
கங்காலஂ முஸலஂ கோரஂ காபாலமத கங்கணம்.
தாரயந்த்யஸுரா யாநி ததாம்யேதாநி ஸர்வஷஃ৷৷1.27.12৷৷
தாரயந்த்யஸுரா யாநி ததாம்யேதாநி ஸர்வஷஃ৷৷1.27.12৷৷
கோரம் dreadful, கங்காலம் Kankala, முஸலம் pounding pestle, காபாலம் Kapala, அத and, கங்கணம் Kankana, யாநி all these, அஸுராஃ asuras, தாரயந்தி are holding, ஏதாநி such weapons, ஸர்வஷஃ completely, ததாமி I shall grant.
I shall grant all these weapons, the dreadful kankala, pestle kapala and kankana used by asuras.
வைத்யாதரஂ மஹாஸ்த்ரஂ ச நந்தநஂ நாம நாமதஃ.
அஸிரத்நஂ மஹாபாஹோ ததாமி ச நரிபாத்மஜ৷৷1.27.13৷৷

மஹாபாஹோ O! Mighty armed one, நரிபாத்மஜ O! Prince, வைத்யாதரம் pertaining to Vaidyadharas, மஹாஸ்த்ரஂ ச maha astra, நாமதஃ by name, நந்தநஂ நாம known as Nandana, அஸிரத்நம் excellent scimitar, ததாமி I shall grant.
O mighty-armed prince, I shall grant mahaastra, vaidyadhara and and an excellent scimitar known as nandana.
காந்தர்வமஸ்த்ரஂ தயிதஂ மாநவஂ நாம நாமதஃ.
ப்ரஸ்வாபநப்ரஷமநே தத்மி ஸௌரஂ ச ராகவ৷৷1.27.14৷৷
ப்ரஸ்வாபநப்ரஷமநே தத்மி ஸௌரஂ ச ராகவ৷৷1.27.14৷৷
ராகவ O! Rama, காந்தர்வம் அஸ்த்ரம் Gandharva astra, நாமதஃ by name, மாநவஂ நாம known as Manava, தயிதம் much favoured, ப்ரஸ்வாபந ப்ரஷமநே inducing and suppressing sleep, ஸௌரஂ ச Saura astra, தத்மி I shall grant.
Rama, I shall grant two much favoured weapons namely gandharvaastras, manava astra, which induce and suppress sleep and sauraastra as well.
தர்பணஂ ஷோஷணஂ சைவ ஸந்தாபநவிலாபநே.
மதநஂ சைவ துர்தர்ஷஂ கந்தர்பதயிதஂ ததா৷৷1.27.15৷৷
பைஷாசமஸ்த்ரஂ தயிதஂ மோஹநஂ நாம நாமதஃ.
ப்ரதீச்ச நரஷார்தூல! ராஜபுத்ர! மஹாயஷஃ৷৷1.27.16৷৷
மதநஂ சைவ துர்தர்ஷஂ கந்தர்பதயிதஂ ததா৷৷1.27.15৷৷
பைஷாசமஸ்த்ரஂ தயிதஂ மோஹநஂ நாம நாமதஃ.
ப்ரதீச்ச நரஷார்தூல! ராஜபுத்ர! மஹாயஷஃ৷৷1.27.16৷৷
மஹாயஷஃ O! Highly renowned one, நரஷார்தூல O! Best among men, ராஜபுத்ர O! Prince, தர்பணம் darpana, ஷோஷணஂ சைவ soshana(the parching weapon), ஸந்தாபநவிலாபநே Santhapana, Vilapana (those which induce sorrow and wailing), ததா also, துர்தர்ஷம் unassailable, கந்தர்பதயிதம் favoured by Manmatha, மதநஂ ச Madana, நாமதஃ by name, மோஹநஂ நாம known as Mohana, தயிதம் favoured one, பைஷாசம் அஸ்த்ரம் Paisacha Astra, ப்ரதீச்ச you may receive.
O renowned prince, best among men, receive these astras known as darpana, soshana, santhapana, vilapana, madana astra, the unassailable one favoured by kamadeva and the paisacha astra known as mohana favoured by demons.
தாமஸஂ நரஷார்தூல! ஸௌமநஂ ச மஹாபல.
ஸஂவர்தஂ சைவ துர்தர்ஷஂ மௌஸலஂ ச நரிபாத்மஜ৷৷1.27.17৷৷
ஸத்யமஸ்த்ரஂ மஹாபாஹோ ததா மாயாதரஂ பரம்.
கோரஂ தேஜஃ ப்ரபஂ நாம பரதேஜோபகர்ஷணம்৷৷1.27.18৷৷
ஸௌம்யாஸ்த்ரஂ ஷிஷிரஂ நாம த்வஷ்டுரஸ்த்ரஂ ஸுதாமநம்.
தாருணஂ ச பகஸ்யாபி ஷிதேஷு மத மாநவம்৷৷1.27.19৷৷
ஸஂவர்தஂ சைவ துர்தர்ஷஂ மௌஸலஂ ச நரிபாத்மஜ৷৷1.27.17৷৷
ஸத்யமஸ்த்ரஂ மஹாபாஹோ ததா மாயாதரஂ பரம்.
கோரஂ தேஜஃ ப்ரபஂ நாம பரதேஜோபகர்ஷணம்৷৷1.27.18৷৷
ஸௌம்யாஸ்த்ரஂ ஷிஷிரஂ நாம த்வஷ்டுரஸ்த்ரஂ ஸுதாமநம்.
தாருணஂ ச பகஸ்யாபி ஷிதேஷு மத மாநவம்৷৷1.27.19৷৷
நரஷார்தூல O! Best among men, மஹாபல highly strong, நரிபாத்மஜ O! Prince, தாமஸம் Tamasa, ஸௌமநஂ சைவ Saumana, துர்தர்ஷம் சைவ also unassilable, ஸஂவர்தஂ Samavardha, மௌஸலம் Mausala, ஸத்யம் அஸ்த்ரம் Satya astra, பரம் supreme, மாயாதரம் Maya dhara astra, பரதேஜோபகர்ஷணம் removing the energy of the opponent, கோரம் fearful, தேஜஃ ப்ரபம் நாம named Teja Prabha, ஷிஷிரஂ நாம named Sisira, ஸௌம்யாஸ்த்ரம் Saumya astra(a soft weapon), ஸுதாமநம் supremely formidable, த்வஷ்டுஃ Twashtu's, அஸ்த்ரம் astra, பகஸ்ய Bhaga's, தாருணம் terrible, ஷிதேஷும் sharp-arrowed astra, அத and, மாநவம் Manava, ப்ரதீச்சஸ்வ accept.
O tiger among men! mighty prince!, accept tamasa and saumanaastras, the unassailable, samavardha weapon, mausala, satyaastra, the supreme mayadhara astra, the terrible tejaprabhaastra capable of removing the energy of the opponent, a soft weapon called sisira, supremely formidable twashtus astra, Bhaga's terrible shiteshuastra (sharp arrowed one) and manava astra.
ஏதாந் ராம! மஹாபாஹோ! காமரூபாந் மஹாபலாந் .
கரிஹாண பரமோதாராந் க்ஷிப்ரமேவ நரிபாத்மஜ৷৷1.27.20৷৷

மஹாபாஹோ O! Mighty armed one, நரிபாத்மஜ O! Prince, ராம O! Rama, காமரூபாந் capable of assuming any form at will, மஹாபலாந் mighty, பரமோதாராந் highly exalted, ஏதாந் these astras, க்ஷிப்ரமேவ immediately, கரிஹாண you may receive.
O Rama! mighty-armed prince, receive these mighty and highly exalted astras capable of assuming at once any form at will".
ஸ்திதஸ்து ப்ராங்முகோ பூத்வா ஷுசிர்முநிவரஸ்ததா.
ததௌ ராமாய ஸுப்ரீதோ மந்த்ரக்ராமமநுத்தமம்৷৷1.27.21৷৷
ததௌ ராமாய ஸுப்ரீதோ மந்த்ரக்ராமமநுத்தமம்৷৷1.27.21৷৷
ததா thereafter, முநிவர he exalted one among ascetics, ஷுசி having purified himself, ப்ரங்முகஃ turning his face towards east, ஸ்திதஃ பூத்வா standing, ஸுப்ரீதஃ well-pleased, ராமாய for Rama, அநுத்தமம் pre-eminently best, மந்த்ரக்ராமம் collection of mantras, ததௌ gave.
Viswamitra, the greatest ascetic after the purification ritual stood with his face turned east and happily, conferred on Rama collection of the unique mantras.
ஸர்வஸங்க்ரஹணஂ யேஷாஂ தைவதைரபி துர்லபம்.
தாந்யஸ்த்ராணி ததா விப்ரோ ராகவாய ந்யவேதயத்৷৷1.27.22৷৷
தாந்யஸ்த்ராணி ததா விப்ரோ ராகவாய ந்யவேதயத்৷৷1.27.22৷৷
யேஷாம் of those weapons', ஸர்வஸங்க்ரஹணம் complete acquisition, தைவதைரபி even by the celestials, துர்லபம் difficult to be attained, தாநி such, அஸ்த்ராணி astras, ததா then, விப்ரஃ Visvamitra, ராகவாய for Rama, ந்யவேதயத் made known.
The sage offered Rama the complete collection of those weapons which even the celestials find it difficult to acquire.
ஜபதஸ்து முநேஸ்தஸ்ய விஷ்வாமித்ரஸ்ய தீமதஃ.
உபதஸ்துர்மஹார்ஹாணி ஸர்வாண்யஸ்த்ராணி ராகவம்৷৷1.27.23৷৷
உபதஸ்துர்மஹார்ஹாணி ஸர்வாண்யஸ்த்ராணி ராகவம்৷৷1.27.23৷৷
தீமதஃ of the sagacious, தஸ்ய முநேஃ ascetic Viswamitra, ஜபதஃ while muttering in a subdued tone, மஹார்ஹாணி venerable, அஸ்த்ராணி astras, ஸர்வாணி all, ராகவம் for Rama, உபதஸ்துஃ (reached) served.
While the sagacious ascetic Viswamitra was muttering the mystic terms of these venerable astras (addressing their respective deities), all these weapons (with their mystic power) attended on Rama.
ஊசுஷ்ச முதிதாஸ்ஸர்வே ராமஂ ப்ராஞ்ஜலயஸ்ததா.
இமே ஸ்ம பரமோதாராஃ கிங்கராஸ்தவ ராகவ৷৷1.27.24৷৷
இமே ஸ்ம பரமோதாராஃ கிங்கராஸ்தவ ராகவ৷৷1.27.24৷৷
பரமோதாராஃ highly munificient, ஸர்வே all presiding deities of the weapons, ததா then, ப்ரஞ்ஜலயஃ with folded palms, ஊசுஷ்ச uttered, ராகவ Rama, இமே ஸ்ம here we are, தவ your, கிங்கராஃ servants.
The munificient presiding deities of the weapons with folded palms addressed these words to Rama saying, "Here we are, at you disposal !".
ப்ரதிகரிஹ்ய ச காகுத்ஸ்தஃ ஸமாலப்ய ச பாணிநா.
மாநஸா மே பவிஷ்யத்வமிதி தாநப்யசோதயத்৷৷1.27.25৷৷
மாநஸா மே பவிஷ்யத்வமிதி தாநப்யசோதயத்৷৷1.27.25৷৷
காகுத்ஸ்த O! Rama, ப்ரதிகரிஹ்ய haivng received them, பாணிநா with hand, ஸமாலப்ய touching them, மே my, மாநஸாஃ பவிஷ்யத்வம் இதி be recorded in my mind, saying so, தாந் them, அப்யசோதயத் ordered them.
Rama received the astras he felt with his hands and commanded them saying, "Live in my mind" (serve me whenever I remember you).
ததஃ ப்ரீதமநா ராமோ விஷ்வாமித்ரஂ மஹாமுநிம்.
அபிவாத்ய மஹாதேஜா கமநாயோபசக்ரமே৷৷1.27.26৷৷

ததஃ thereafter, மஹாதேஜாஃ highly splendorous, ராமஃ Rama, ப்ரீதமநாஃ with pleased mind , விஷ்வாமித்ரஂ Visvamitra, மஹாமுநிம் mighty ascetic, அபிவாத்ய bowing with respect, கமநாய for his journey, உபசக்ரமே commenced.
Thereafter, the cheerful Rama, bowed to the mighty ascetic Viswamitra and commenced his journey.
இத்யார்ஷே ஷ்ரீமத்ராமாயணே வால்மீகீய ஆதிகாவ்யே பாலகாண்டே ஸப்தவிஂஷஸ்ஸர்கஃ৷৷
Thus ends the twentyseventh sarga of Balakanda of the holy Ramayana the first epic composed by sage Valmiki.
