[Kusanabha praises his daughters for the courage and tolerance shown towards the Wind-god the birth of Brahmadatta and his marriage with the daughters of Kusanabha.]

তস্য তদ্বচনং শ্রুত্বা কুশনাভস্য ধীমত:৷

শিরোভিশ্চরণৌ স্পৃষ্ট্বা কন্যাশতমভাষত৷৷1.33.1৷৷


ধীমত: of sagacious, তস্য কুশনাভস্য of that Kusanabha's, তদ্বচনম্ those words, শ্রুত্বা having heard, কন্যাশতম্ the hundred maidens, শিরোভি: with their heads, চরণৌ his feet, স্পৃষ্ট্বা having touched, অভাষত said.

On hearing the words of sagacious Kusanabha, his hundred daughters touched his feet with their heads and said:
বাযুস্সর্বাত্মকো রাজন্! প্রধর্ষযিতুমিচ্ছতি৷

অশুভং মার্গমাস্থায ন ধর্মং প্রত্যবেক্ষতে৷৷1.33.2৷৷


রাজন্ O! King, সর্বাত্মক: all pervading, বাযু: wind-god, অশুভম্ foul, মার্গম্ way, আস্থায having taken recourse, প্রধর্ষযিতুম্ to outrage, ইচ্ছতি is desiring, ধর্মম্ the law of morality, ন প্রত্যবেক্ষতে does not consider.

"O king, the all-pervading Wind-god, having taken recourse to foul means intended to outrage our modesty without and moral compunction.
পিতৃমত্যস্স্ম ভদ্রং তে স্বচ্ছন্দে ন বযং স্থিতা:৷

পিতরং নো বৃণীষ্ব ত্বং যদি নো দাস্যতে তব৷৷1.33.3৷৷


বযম্ we, পিতৃমত্য: স্ম: have our father, তে ভদ্রম্ may prosperity be to you, স্বচ্ছন্দে freely, ন স্থিতা: (we are) not situated, ন: us, তব to you, দাস্যতে যদি whether he gives, ত্বম্ you, ন: our, পিতরম্ father, বৃণীষ্ব request.

We have our father who is dear to us. Hence we do not have freedom to choose. You may ask our father if he is willing to give us (in marriage).
তেন পাপানুবন্ধেন বচনং ন প্রতীচ্ছতা৷

এবং ব্রুবন্ত্যস্সর্বাস্স্ম বাযুনা নিহতা ভৃশম্৷৷1.33.4৷৷


এবম্ in this way, ব্রুবন্ত্য: while we were speaking, সর্বা: all of us, পাপানুবন্ধেন by the sinful one, বচনম্ our words, ন প্রতীচ্ছতা without accepting, তেন বাযুনা by that wind-god, ভৃশম্ greatly, নিহতা: we are smitten.

As all of us were speaking thus, the sinful Wind-god, disregarding our words repeatedly assaulted us.

প্রত্যুবাচ মহাতেজা: কন্যাশতমনুত্তমম্৷৷1.33.5৷৷


পরমধার্মিক: the highly virtuous one, মহাতেজা: highly powerful, রাজা the king, তাসাম্ theirs, তত্ বচনম্ those words, শ্রুত্বা having heard, অনুত্তমম্ excellent, কন্যাশতম্ hundred daughters, প্রত্যুবাচ replied.

The deeply religious and highly powerful king, having heard those words of his one hundred exceptional daughters, replied:
ক্ষান্তং ক্ষমাবতাং পুত্র্য: কর্তব্যং সুমহত্কৃতম্৷

ঐকমত্যমুপাগম্য কুলং চাবেক্ষিতং মম৷৷1.33.6৷৷


পুত্র্য: you, Daughters!, ক্ষমাবতাম্ of those having forberance, কর্তব্যম্ fit to be done, ক্ষান্তম্ forbearance, কৃতম্ has been done, সুমহত্ great, ঐকমত্যম্ unanimity, উপাগম্য taking recourse to, মম my, কুলং চ dynasty, অবেক্ষিতম্ is taken into consideration.

"O daughters! you have done a great act of forgiveness of which only the tolerant are capable. By taking a united stand, you have protected the honour of my dynasty.
অলঙ্কারো হি নারীণাং ক্ষমা তু পুরুষস্য বা৷

দুষ্করং তচ্চ যত্ ক্ষান্তং ত্রিদশেষু বিশেষত:৷৷1.33.7৷৷

যাদৃশী ব: ক্ষমা পুত্র্যস্সর্বাসামবিশেষত:৷


নারীণাম্ for women, পুরুষস্য বা or for men, ক্ষমা forbearance, অলঙ্কারো হি is an ornament, ক্ষান্তম্ ইতি যত্ which act of forgiving, তত্ দুষ্করম্ that one is difficult, ত্রিদশেষু even for gods, বিশেষত: especially difficult, পুত্র্য: Daughters!, ব: all of you, সর্বাসাম্ for the rest, অবিশেষত: without difference, যাদৃশী similar to that.

Whether for women or men forgiveness is an ornament. It is difficult even for gods. For you, daughters, to show it without any difference of opinion is especially hard.
ক্ষমা দানং ক্ষমা যজ্ঞঃ ক্ষমা সত্যং হি পুত্রিকা:৷৷1.33.8৷৷

ক্ষমা যশ: ক্ষমা ধর্ম: ক্ষমযা নিষ্ঠিতং জগত্৷


ক্ষমা forbearance, দানম্ charity, ক্ষমা forbearance, যজ্ঞঃ sacrifice, পুত্রিকা: Daughters!, ক্ষমা forbearance, সত্যং হি is truth indeed, ক্ষমা forberance, যশ: glory, ক্ষমা forbearance, ধর্ম: virtue, জগত্ the universe, ক্ষমযা by forbearance, নিষ্ঠিতম্ is supported.

"Forbearance is charity, forbearance is sacrifice, forbearance is truth, forbearance is glory and forbearance is virtue. O daughters, the universe is supported by forbearance".
বিসৃজ্য কন্যা: কাকুত্স্থ! রাজা ত্রিদশবিক্রম:৷৷1.33.9৷৷

মন্ত্রজ্ঞো মন্ত্রযামাস প্রদানং সহ মন্ত্রিভি:৷

দেশকালৌ প্রদানস্য সদৃশে প্রতিপাদনম্৷৷1.33.10৷৷


কাকুত্স্থ O! Rama, ত্রিদশবিক্রম: a man endowed with the prowess of celestials, মন্ত্রজ্ঞ: one who is well-versed in counselling, রাজা the king, কন্যা: daughters, বিসৃজ্য leaving, মন্ত্রিভি: সহ along with ministers, প্রদানম্ bestowing of maidens, মন্ত্রযামাস consulted, প্রদানস্য for bestowing, দেশকালৌ proper time and place, সদৃশে for a suitable person, প্রতিপাদনম্ about giving in marriage (consulted).

"O Rama! after sending away his daughters, the king endowed with the power of the celestials and well-versed in the art of counselling, consulted his ministers about a suitable person for marriage of his daughters at proper time and place.
এতস্মিন্নেব কালে তু চূলী নাম মহাতপা:৷

ঊর্ধ্বরেতাশ্শুভাচারো ব্রাহ্মং তপ উপাগমত্৷৷1.33.11৷৷


এতস্মিন্ কালে এব during the same time, মহাতপা: a great ascetic, ঊর্ধ্বরেতা: living in celebacy, শুভাচার: having clean and auspicious behaviour, চূলী নাম named Chuli, ব্রাহ্মম্ in pursuit of knowledge of Brahman, তপ: austerities, উপাগমত্ obtained.

At that time a great and virtuous ascetic named Chuli living in celebacy was performing austerities in pursuit of the knowledge of Brahman.
তপ্যন্তং তমৃষিং তত্র গন্ধর্বী পর্যুপাসতে৷

সোমদা নাম ভদ্রং তে ঊর্মিলা তনযা তদা৷৷1.33.12৷৷


তদা then, তত্র there, তপ্যন্তম্ him who was performing austerities, তম্ ঋষিম্ that Rishi, ঊর্মিলা তনযা daughter of Urmila, সোমদা নাম nymph named Somada, গন্ধর্বী Gandharva maiden, পর্যুপাসতে doing service, তে ভদ্রম্ prosperity to you.

When he was performing austerities, a nymph named Somada, daughter of Urmila, used to serve him. Prosperity to you!
সা চ তং প্রণতা ভূত্বা শুশ্রূষণপরাযণা৷

উবাস কালে ধর্মিষ্ঠা তস্যাস্তুষ্টোভবদ্গুরু:৷৷1.33.13৷৷


সা চ she, তম্ that Chuli, প্রণতা ভূত্বা bowing down, শুশ্রূষণপরাযণা devoted to his service, ধর্মিষ্ঠা adhering to virtue, উবাস lived, কালে in a proper time, গুরু: the spiritual guide, তস্যা: in her, তুষ্ট: অভবত্ was gratified.

Somada rendered her services with devotion and humility. There she lived a religious life. In the might time her spiritual guide was satisfied with her services.
স চ তাং কালযোগেন প্রোবাচ রঘুনন্দন৷

পরিতুষ্টোস্মি ভদ্রং তে কিং করোমি তব প্রিযম্৷৷1.33.14৷৷


স: চ that maharshi Chuli, কালযোগেন when her services have come to fruition with the passage of time, তাম্ addressing her, প্রোবাচ said, পরিতুষ্ট: অস্মি I am pleased, তে ভদ্রম্ posperity to you, তব to you, কিম্ what, প্রিযম্ favour, করোমি shall I do?

When her services came to a fruition with the passage of time, maharshi Chuli, spoke to her: 'I am pleased with you. What favour shall I do for you? May you be prosperous!'
পরিতুষ্টং মুনিং জ্ঞাত্বা গন্ধর্বী মধুরস্বরা৷

উবাচ পরমপ্রীতা বাক্যজ্ঞা বাক্যকোবিদম্৷৷1.33.15৷৷


মুনিম্ sage, পরিতুষ্টম্ gratified, জ্ঞাত্বা having known, মধুরস্বরা in sweet tone, বাক্যজ্ঞা knower of words, গন্ধর্বী gandharvi, পরমপ্রীতা who was exceedingly delighted, বাক্যকোবিদম্ proficient speech, উবাচ said.

Having perceived that the sage was satisfied, the gandharva who was skilled in speech said exceedingly delighted to the sage in a sweet voice.
লক্ষ্ম্যা সমুদিতো ব্রাহ্ম্যা ব্রহ্মভূতো মহাতপা:৷

ব্রাহ্মেণ তপসা যুক্তং পুত্রমিচ্ছামি ধার্মিক৷৷1.33.16৷৷


মহাতপা: possessing great ascetism, ব্রাহ্ম্যা relating to Brahmana, লক্ষ্ম্যা lustre, সমুদিত: endowed with, ব্রহ্মভূত: like Brahma, ধার্মিক O! Righteous one, ব্রাহ্মেণ relating to Brahma, তপসা যুক্তম্ endowed with ascestic virtues, পুত্রম্ son, ইচ্ছামি I am desiring.

Bestowed with the great asceticism and brilliance of a brahmin, you look like Brahma. O righteous one, I desire a son endowed with the ascetic virtues of a brahmin.
অপতিশ্চাস্মি ভদ্রং তে ভার্যা চাস্মি ন কস্যচিত্৷

ব্রাহ্মেণোপগতাযাশ্চ দাতুমর্হসি মে সুতম্৷৷1.33.17৷৷


অপতি: চ অস্মি I am without husband, তে ভদ্রম্ prosperity to you, কস্য চিত্ to any one, ভার্যা wife, নাস্মি I am not, উপগতাযা: having taken refuge in you, মে to me, ব্রাহ্মেণ with the power of penance, সুতম্ son, দাতুম্ অর্হসি it behoves of you to bestow.

I am without a husband, my sire. I am not a wife to any one. Since I have taken refuge in you, you are competent to bestow on me a son with the power of your penance".
তস্যা: প্রসন্নো ব্রহ্মর্ষির্দদৌ পুত্রমনুত্তমম্৷

ব্রহ্মদত্ত ইতি খ্যাতং মানসং চূলিনস্সুতম্৷৷1.33.18৷৷


তস্যা: to her, প্রসন্ন: pleased, ব্রহ্মর্ষি: Brahmarshi, চূলিন: of Chuli, মানসম্ born through the will of his mind, সুতম্ son, ব্রহ্মদত্ত ইতি Brahmadatta, খ্যাতম্ well-known, অনুত্তমম্ excellent, পুত্রম্ son, দদৌ gave.

Pleased with her, brahmarshi Chuli gave her an excellent son to be well-known as Brahmadatta born through the will of his mind.
স রাজা সৌমদেযস্তু পুরীমধ্যবসত্তদা৷

কাংপিল্যাং পরযা লক্ষ্ম্যা দেবরাজো যথা দিবম্৷৷1.33.19৷৷


সৌমদেয: the son of Somada, স: রাজা that king Brahmadatta, তদা then, দেবরাজ: Devendra, দিবং যথা like heaven, কাংপিল্যাম্ Kampilya, পুরীম্ city, পরযা with great, লক্ষ্ম্যা prosperity, অধ্যবসত্ lived.

Then king Brahmadatta, son of Somada, lived in the city of Kampilya with great
prosperity like Indra in heaven.
স বুদ্ধিং কৃতবান্ রাজা কুশনাভস্সুধার্মিক:৷

ব্রহ্মদত্তায কাকুত্স্থ! দাতুং কন্যাশতং তদা৷৷1.33.20৷৷


কাকুত্স্থ O! Rama, তদা then, সুধার্মিক: highly righteous, রাজা king, স: কুশনাভ: Kusanabha, কন্যাশতম্ hundred daughters, ব্রহ্মদত্তায to Brahmadatta, দাতুম্ to give, বুদ্ধিং thinking, কৃতবান্ decided.

O Rama, then the highly righteous king Kusanabha decided to give his hundred daughters to Brahmadatta".
তমাহূয মহাতেজা ব্রহ্মদত্তং মহীপতি:৷

দদৌ কন্যাশতং রাজা সুপ্রীতেনান্তরাত্মনা৷৷1.33.21৷৷


মহাতেজা: highly powerful, মহীপতি: lord of the earth, রাজা king, তম্ ব্রহ্মদত্তম্ that Brahmadatta, আহূয having invited, সুপ্রীতেন with highly pleased, অন্তরাত্মনা heart, কন্যাশতম্ a hundred daughters, দদৌ gave.

The lord of the earth, highly powerful king Kusanabha invited Brahmadatta, and gave his hundred daughters in marriage to him with a heart highly pleased.
যথাক্রমং তত: পাণীন্ জগ্রাহ রঘুনন্দন৷

ব্রহ্মদত্তো মহীপালস্তাসাং দেবপতির্যথা৷৷1.33.22৷৷


রঘুনন্দন O! Rama, দেবপতির্যথা resembling devendra, ব্রহ্মদত্ত: মহীপাল: king Brahmadatta, তত: then, যথাক্রমম্ in due order, তাসাম্ those maidens', পাণীন্ hand, জগ্রাহ received.

O son of Raghu's dynasty! that king Brahmadatta resembling Indra received the hands of those maidens' in due order.
স্পৃষ্টমাত্রে তত: পাণৌ বিকুব্জা বিগতজ্বরা:৷

যুক্তা: পরমযা লক্ষ্ম্যা বভু: কন্যাশতং তদা৷৷1.33.23৷৷ৃ32


তত: thereafter, পাণৌ hand, স্পৃষ্টমাত্রে with mere touch, তদা then, কন্যাশতম্ hundred daughters, বিকুব্জা: were devoid of hump back, বিগতজ্বরা: free from anguish, পরমযা great, লক্ষ্ম্যা splendour, যুক্তা: endowed with, বভু: shone.

Thereafter, with the mere touch of his hand, the hundred daughters were cured of their hump- back and freed from anguish. They assumed great beauty.
স দৃষ্ট্বা বাযুনা মুক্তা: কুশনাভো মহীপতি:৷

বভূব পরমপ্রীতো হর্ষং লেভে পুন:পুন:৷৷1.33.24৷৷


মহীপতি: king, স: কুশনাভ: Kusanabha, বাযুনা by wind-god, মুক্তা: released, দৃষ্ট্বা having seen, পরমপ্রীত: immensely pleased, বভূব became, পুন: পুন: again and again, হর্ষম্ delight, লেভে obtained.

King Kusanabha, having seen his daughters released from disfigurement caused by the Wind-god was immensely pleased. He experienced waves of delight.
কৃতোদ্বাহং তু রাজানং ব্রহ্মদত্তং মহীপতি:৷

সদারং প্রেষযামাস সোপাধ্যাযগণং তদা৷৷1.33.25৷৷


তদা then, মহীপতি: king, কৃতোদ্বাহম্ having performed marriage, সদারম্ together with his wives, সোপাধ্যাযগণম্ in the assembly of priests, রাজানম্ king, ব্রহ্মদত্তম্ Brahmadatta, প্রেষযামাস sent him to his kingdom.

Then the king along with his queens performed the marriage of his daughters in the assembly of priests and sent them with Brahmadatta (to his kingdom).
সোমদাপি সুসংহৃষ্টা পুত্রস্য সদৃশীং ক্রিযাম্৷

যথান্যাযং চ গন্ধর্বী স্নুষাস্তা: প্রত্যনন্দত৷৷1.33.26৷৷


গন্ধর্বী gandharva woman, সোমদাপি Somada also,সুসংহৃষ্টা well pleased, পুত্রস্য son's, সদৃশীম্ fit and proper, ক্রিযাম্ acts, তা: স্নুষা: those daughters-in-law, যথান্যাযং properly, প্রত্যনন্দত praised.

Somada the gandharvi was exeedingly delighted with her daughters-in-law and praised her son for his right action.
