[The birth of Gadhi-commendation of Kausiki-description of mid-night.]

কৃতোদ্বাহে গতে তস্মিন্ ব্রহ্মদত্তে চ রাঘব৷

অপুত্র: পুত্রলাভায পৌত্রীমিষ্টিমকল্পযত্৷৷1.34.1৷৷


রাঘব O! Rama, তস্মিন্ ব্রহ্মদত্তে when that Brahmadatta, কৃতোদ্বাহে got married, গতে had gone, অপুত্র: king without sons, পুত্রলাভায in order to obtain a son, পৌত্রীম্ ইষ্টিম্ Putreshti, অকল্পযত্ performed.

"O son of Raghu's dynasty (Rama)! Brahmadatta got married and left for his kingdom. Now a putreshti was performed by king Kusanabha in order to beget a son.
ইষ্ট্যাং তু বর্তমানাযাং কুশনাভং মহীপতিম্৷

উবাচ পরমোদার: কুশো ব্রহ্মসুতস্তদা৷৷1.34.2৷৷


তদা then, ইষ্ট্যাম্ when Putreshti, বর্তমানাযাম্ was being performed, পরমোদার: highly generous, ব্রহ্মসুত: son of Brahma, কুশ: Kusa, কুশনাভমহীপতিম্ king Kusanabha, উবাচ spoke.

Then, while putreshti was on Kusa the highly generous son of Brahma, said to king Kusanabha :
পুত্রস্তে সদৃশ: পুত্র ভবিষ্যতি সুধার্মিক:৷

গাধিং প্রাপ্স্যসি তেন ত্বং কীর্তিং লোকে চ শাশ্বতীম্৷৷1.34.3৷৷


পুত্র O! My son, তে সদৃশ: similar to yourself, সুধার্মিক: highly virtuous, পুত্র: son, ভবিষ্যতি will be born, গাধিম্ named Gadhi, প্রাপ্স্যসি you will obtain, তেন by him, ত্বম্ you, শাশ্বতীম্ everlasting, লোকে in this world, কীর্তিং চ fame also (will obtain).

"O son, a highly virtuous son named Gadhi, similar to you will be born. Because of him you will obtain everlasting fame throughtout this world".
এবমুক্ত্বা কুশো রাম! কুশনাভং মহীপতিম্৷

জগামাকাশমাবিশ্য ব্রহ্মলোকং সনাতনাম্৷৷1.34.4৷৷


রাম O! Rama, কুশ: Kusa, মহীপতিম্ king, কুশনাভম্ Kusanabha, এবম্ in this way, উক্ত্বা having spoken, আকাশম্ the sky, আবিশ্য having entered, সনাতনম্ eternal, ব্রহ্মলোকম্ Brahmaloka, জগাম had gone.

"O Rama! so saying to king Kusanabha, Kusa left through space for the eternal Brahmaloka".
কস্য চিত্ত্বথ কালস্য কুশনাভস্য ধীমত:৷

জজ্ঞে পরমধর্মিষ্ঠো গাধিরিত্যেব নামত:৷৷1.34.5৷৷


অথ thereafter, কস্যচিত্কালস্য after sometime, ধীমত: of the sagacious, কুশনাভস্য Kusanabha's, পরমধর্মিষ্ঠ: supremely righteous one, নামত: by name, গাধি: ইত্যেব known as Gadhi, জজ্ঞে was born.

After some time, a supremely righteous son by name Gadhi was born to the sagacious Kusanabha.
স পিতা মম কাকুত্স্থ! গাধি: পরমধার্মিক:৷

কুশবংশপ্রসূতোস্মি কৌশিকো রঘুনন্দন ৷৷1.34.6৷৷


কাকুত্স্থ O! Rama, পরমধার্মিক: highly virtuous, স: গাধি: Gadhi, মম পিতা my father, রঘুনন্দন O! Rama, কুশবংশপ্রসূত: born in the family of Kusa, কৌশিক: অস্মি I am known as Kausika.

O son of Raghu's dynasty! the highly virtuous Gadhi is my father. I am known as Kausika being born in the family of Kusa.
পূর্বজা ভগিনী চাপি মম রাঘব! সুব্রতা৷

নাম্না সত্যবতী নাম ঋচীকে প্রতিপাদিতা৷৷1.34.7৷৷


রাঘব O! Rama, সুব্রতা adherent of best religious practices, নাম্না by name, সত্যবতী নাম as Satyavati, মম my, পূর্বজা ভগিনী elder sister, ঋচীকে for Richika, প্রতিপাদিতা was bestowed.

O Raghava! adherent of best religious practices, is my elder sister well known by name Satyavati. She was bestowed in marriage to Richika.
সশরীরা গতা স্বর্গং ভর্তারমনুবর্তিনী৷

কৌশিকী পরমোদারা প্রবৃত্তা চ মহানদী৷৷1.34.8৷৷


ভর্তারম্ her husband, অনুবর্তিনী following, সশরীরা with human body, স্বর্গম্ heaven, গতা had gone, পরমোদারা highly generous, কৌশিকী named Kausiki, মহানদী sacred river, প্রবৃত্তা চ flowed.

Following her husband my highly generous sister reached heaven with her human body and down assuming the form of a sacred river, flowed Kausiki.
দিব্যা পুণ্যোদকা রম্যা হিমবন্তমুপাশ্রিতা৷

লোকস্য হিতকামার্থং প্রবৃত্তা ভগিনী মম৷৷1.34.9৷৷


লোকস্য for the world, হিতকামার্থম্ for the welfare and pleasure, প্রবৃত্তা flowed, দিব্যা divine, পুণ্যোদকা sacred waters, রম্যা beautiful, মম my, ভগিনী sister, হিমবন্তম্ Himavat mountain, উপাশ্রিতা took asylum.

Conferring the benefit of the other world and worldly pleasures on men my sister Kausiki who is divine and beautiful having sacred waters took resort in Himavat mountain and started flowing from there.
ততোহং হিমবত্পার্শ্বে বসামি নিরতস্সুখম্৷

ভগিন্যাং স্নেহসংযুক্ত: কৌশিক্যাং রঘুনন্দন৷৷1.34.10৷৷


রঘুনন্দন O! Rama, তত: then onwards, ভগিন্যাম্ in my sister, কৌশিক্যাম্ in Kausiki, স্নেহসংযুক্ত: possessed of affection, অহম্ I, নিরত: enjoying, হিমবত্পার্শ্বে on the side of Himavat mountain, সুখম্ happily, বসামি I am living.

O son of the Raghus', from then onwards with affection towards my sister Kausiki, I am living happily in the vicinity of Himavat mountains.
সা তু সত্যবতী পুণ্যা সত্যে ধর্মে প্রতিষ্ঠিতা৷

পতিব্রতা মহাভাগা কৌশিকী সরিতাং বরা৷৷1.34.11৷৷


সা সত্যবতী that Satyavati, পুণ্যা sacred, সত্যে in truth, ধর্মে in righteousness, প্রতিষ্ঠিতা established, পতিব্রতা chaste, মহাভাগা holy, সরিতাং বরা best among rivers, কৌশিকী Kausiki.

Satyavati is sacred, firmly established in truth and righteousness. She is chaste holy and best among rivers. She is known as river Kausiki.
অহং হি নিযমাদ্রাম! হিত্বা তাং সমুপাগত:৷

সিদ্ধাশ্রমমনুপ্রাপ্য সিদ্ধোস্মি তব তেজসা৷৷1.34.12৷৷


রাম Rama, অহম্ হি I indeed, নিযমাত্ for religious observance, তাং হিত্বা leaving her, সমুপাগত: have come, সিদ্ধাশ্রমম্ Siddha ashrama, অনুপ্রাপ্য having reached, তব by your, তেজসা valour, সিদ্ধ: অস্মি I have fulfilled my desire.

Rama, for the sake of observance of austerity I have come to Siddhaashrama leaving her behind. Having reached here, I have fulfilled my desire through your valour.
এষা রাম! মমোত্পত্তিস্স্বস্য বংশস্য কীর্তিতা৷

দেশস্য চ মহাবাহো! যন্মাং ত্বং পরিপৃচ্ছসি৷৷1.34.13৷৷


মহাবাহো O! Mighty armed one, রাম O! Rama, এষা মম this is my, স্বস্য বংশস্য my family's, দেশস্য চ of the place also, উত্পত্তি: origin, কীর্তিতা narrated, যত্ which, ত্বম্ you, মাম্ me, পরিপৃচ্ছসি are asking for.

O mighty-armed Rama! since you asked me I narrated this, my origin, the history of my family and the history of this place.
গতোর্ধরাত্র: কাকুত্স্থ! কথা: কথযতো মম৷

নিদ্রামভ্যেহি ভদ্রং তে মা ভূদ্বিঘ্নোধ্বনীহ ন:৷৷1.34.14৷৷


কাকুত্স্থ O! Rama, মম for me, কথা: stories, কথযত: while narrating, অর্ধরাত্র: midnight, গত: has passed by, নিদ্রাম্ sleep, অভ্যেহি acquire, তে ভদ্রম্ prosperity to you, ইহ here, ন: for us, অধ্বনি on the way, বিঘ্ন: obstacles, মাভূত্ let not take place.

O son of the Kakusthas! while telling my stories, midnight has passed by. Go to sleep now. Prosperity to you. Let there be no obstacles on our way.
নিষ্পন্দাস্তরবস্সর্বে নিলীনমৃগপক্ষিণ:৷

নৈশেন তমসা ব্যাপ্তা দিশশ্চ রঘুনন্দন৷৷1.34.15৷৷


রঘুনন্দন O! Rama, সর্বে তরব: all trees, নিষ্পন্দা: are motionless, নিলীন মৃগপক্ষিণ: with beasts and birds resting calmed, দিশশ্চ all directions, নৈশেন relating to night, তমসা with the darkness, ব্যাপ্তা: pervaded.

O son of the Raghus'! the trees stand motionless, with the beasts and birds calm, all directions are pervaded with darkness.
শনৈর্বিযুজ্যতে সন্ধ্যা নভো নেত্রৈরিবাবৃতম্ ৷

নক্ষত্রতারাগহনং জ্যোতির্ভিরিব ভাসতে৷৷1.34.16৷৷


সন্ধ্যা evening time, শনৈ: gradually, বিযুজ্যতে is separated, নক্ষত্রতারাগহনম্ filled with stars and planets, নভ: sky, জ্যোতির্ভি: ইব as if with shining stars, নেত্রৈ: eyes, আবৃতম্ ইব like covered, ভাসতে is shining.

Evening has gradually disappeared. The sky is littered with stars and planets gleaming points of light as though they are the eyes of the skies.
উত্তিষ্ঠতি চ শীতাংশুশ্শশী লোকতমোনুদ:৷

হ্লাদযন্ প্রাণিনাং লোকে মনাংসি প্রভযা বিভো৷৷1.34.17৷৷


বিভো O! Rama, শীতাংশু: having cool rays, শশি moon, লোকতমোনুদ: dispelling the darkness of world, প্রভযা with moon light, লোকে in this world, প্রাণিনাম্ of the living beings, মনাংসি minds, হ্লাদযন্ delighting, উত্তিষ্ঠতি is rising higher and higher.

O Lord! the Moon with his cool rays, dispelling the darkness of the earth and delighting the minds of all living beings in this world, is rising higher and higher.
নৈশানি সর্বভূতানি প্রচরন্তি ততস্তত:৷

যক্ষরাক্ষসসঙ্ঘাশ্চ রৌদ্রাশ্চ পিশিতাশনা:৷৷1.34.18৷৷


নৈশানি nocturnal, সর্বভূতানি all living beings, যক্ষরাক্ষসসঙ্ঘাশ্চ groups of yakshas and rakshasas, রৌদ্রা: dreadful, পিশিতাশনাশ্চ eaters of human flesh, ততস্তত: here and there, প্রচরন্তি are moving.

All nocturnal creatures groups of yakshas and rakshasas and dreadful eaters of human flesh are moving here and there".
এবমুক্ত্বা মহাতেজা বিররাম মহামুনি:৷

সাধু সাধ্বিতি তং সর্বে ঋষযো হ্যভ্যপূজযন্৷৷1.34.19৷৷


মহাতেজা: highly lustrous, মহামুনি: great ascetic, এবম্ উক্ত্বা having spoken in this way, বিররাম rested, সর্বে মুনয: all sages, সাধু সাধু ইতি well said, well said, thus, তম্ him, অভ্যপূজযন্ praised.

Having spoken thus the highly lustrous, great ascetic rested. All sages praised him,
saying, "well-said! well-said!"
কুশিকানামযং বংশো মহান্ ধর্মপরস্সদা৷

ব্রহ্মোপমা মহাত্মান: কুশবংশ্যা নরোত্তমা:৷৷1.34.20৷৷


কুশিকানাম্ of those belonging to the family of Kusa, অযম্ বংশ: this is the dynasty, মহান্ venerable, সদা always, ধর্মপর: devoted to virtue, কুশবংশ্যা: belonging to Kusa dynasty, নরোত্তমা: foremost of men, মহাত্মান: highly revered, ব্রহ্মোপমা: similar to god Brahma.

This is the family of the Kusas, venerable always devoted to dharma, foremost of men, great like Lord Brahma.
বিশেষেণ ভবানেব বিশ্বামিত্রো মহাযশা:৷

কৌশিকী সরিতাং শ্রেষ্ঠা কুলোদ্যোতকরী তব৷৷1.34.21৷৷


মহাযশা: highly illustrious, বিশ্বামিত্র: Visvamitra, ভবানেব you, yourself, বিশেষেণ especially (you are similar to Brahma), সরিতাম্ among rivers, শ্রেষ্ঠা the best, কৌশিকী Kausiki, তব your, কুলোদ্যোতকরী brightening the image of your dynasty.

"Highly illustrious Viswamitra, you are similar to Brahma. Among the rivers, Kausiki is the best, refurbishing the image of your dynasty".
ইতি তৈর্মুনিশার্দূলৈ: প্রশস্ত: কুশিকাত্মজ: ৷

নিদ্রামুপাগমচ্ছ্রীমান্ অস্তংগত ইবাংশুমান্৷৷1.34.22৷৷


ইতি In this way, তৈ: by them, মুনিশার্দূলৈ: by the best of ascetics, প্রশস্ত: praised, শ্রীমান্ the auspicious one, কুশিকাত্মজ: son of Kusika, শ্রীমান্ the lustrous, অংশুমান্ Sun, অস্তগতমিব setting behind Asta mountains, নিদ্রাম্ sleep, উপাগমত্ obtained.

In this way, adored by the best of ascetics, the auspicious son of Kusika, went to sleep like the lustrous Sun setting.
রামোপি সহসৌমিত্রি: কিঞ্চিদাগতবিস্ময:৷

প্রশস্য মুনিশার্দূলং নিদ্রাং সমুপসেবতে৷৷1.34.23৷৷


সহ সৌমিত্রি: along with Lakshmana, রামোপি Rama also, কিঞ্চিত্ little, আগতবিস্ময: with surprise, মুনিশার্দূলম্ to the best of ascetics, প্রশস্য praising, নিদ্রাম্ sleep, সমুপসেবতে enjoyed.

Rama as well as Lakshmana, with a sense of wonder went to sleep full of admiration for the great ascetic.
ইত্যার্ষে শ্রীমদ্রামাযণে বাল্মীকীয আদিকাব্যে বালকাণ্ডেণ্ডে চতুস্ত্রিংশস্সর্গ:৷৷
