রম্ভে O! Rambha, ইহ now, কৌশিকস্য Kausika's, কামমোহসমন্বিতম্ possessed by lust and passions, লোভনম্ enticing, সুমহত্ highly great, ইদম্ this, সুরকার্যম্ work of devatas, ত্বযা by you, কর্তব্যম্ fit to be done.
"O Rambha! you must entice Viswamitra by lust and passion. This important work
must be done by you in the interest of the gods".

O Rama, to these words of the sagacious, thousand-eyed Lord of the gods (Indra) that apsara with folded hands bashfully replied:
অযং সুরপতে ঘোরো বিশ্বামিত্রো মহামুনি:৷
ঘোরমুত্সৃজতে ক্রোধং মযি দেব ন সংশয:৷৷1.64.3৷৷
ততো হি মে ভযং দেব প্রাসাদং কর্তুমর্হসি৷
ঘোরমুত্সৃজতে ক্রোধং মযি দেব ন সংশয:৷৷1.64.3৷৷
ততো হি মে ভযং দেব প্রাসাদং কর্তুমর্হসি৷
সুরপতে O! Lord of devatas, অযম্ মহামুনি: this mighty ascetic, বিশ্বামিত্র: Visvamitra, ঘোর: is a frightful person, দেব O! Lord, মযি in me, ঘোরম্ fearful, ক্রোধম্ wrath, উত্সৃজতে will release, সংশয: ন no doubt, তত: for that reason, মে my, ভযম্ fear, দেব O! lord, প্রসাদম্ favour, কর্তুম্ to do, অর্হসি behoves of you.
'Lord of the devatas! this mighty ascetic Viswamitra is a terrible person. He will ceratinly release on his dreadful anger (curse me). O Lord! this is my apprehension. You should excuse me'.

O Rama! having heard Rambha trembling in fear and standing with folded palms, Indra spoke:
মাভৈষী রম্ভে ভদ্রং তে কুরুষ্ব মম শাসনম্৷৷1.64.5৷৷
কোকিলো হৃদযগ্রাহী মাধবে রুচিরদ্রুমে৷
অহং কন্দর্পসহিত স্স্থাস্যামি তব পার্শ্বত:৷৷1.64.6৷৷

Rambha, মা ভৈষী: have no fear, তে ভদ্রম্ safety to you, মম my, শাসনম্ order, কুরুষ্ব carry out, অহম্ I, রুচিরদ্রুমে with booming trees, মাধবে in the season of Spring, হৃদযগ্রাহী captivating the heart, কোকিল: cuckoo, কন্দর্পসহিত: in the company of Kandarpa, Cupid, তব your, পার্শ্বত: side, স্থাস্যামি will stay.
'O Rambha! have no fear. Feel safe. Carry out my order. When the trees look so beautiful in spring I shall in captivating the form of a cuckoo, stay by your side in the company of Kamadeva (Cupid).

O Rambha! displaying many (romantic) gestures and assuming a fascinating form, distract the mighty ascetic, Kausika (Viswamitra)'.

সা she, তস্য his, বচনম্ words, শ্রুত্বা having listened, অনুত্তমম্ highly excellent, রূপম্ form, কৃত্বা having asumed, ললিতা beautiful, শুচিস্মিতা with bright smile, বিশ্বামিত্রম্ Visvamitra, লোভযামাস allured.
At these words (of Indra), Rambha, assumed any form of excellent beauty and with a bright smile set out to allure Viswamitra.

Excited by the charming warble of the cuckoo, Viswamitra opened his eyes.

অথ afterwards, তস্য that cuckoo's, শব্দেন sounds, অপ্রতিমেন incomparable, গীতেন song, রম্ভাযা: with the Rambha's, দর্শনেন চ presence also, মুনি: the ascetic, সন্দেহম্ doubt, আগত: arose.
On hearing the sound of the incomparable song of the cuckoo along with the sight of Rambha, a doubt arose in the mind of the ascetic.

Son of Kushika, the eminent ascetic knew it was the work of Indra. Seized with anger,
he cursed Rambha:
যন্মাং লোভযসে রম্ভে কামক্রোধজযৈষিণম্৷
দশবর্ষসহস্রাণি শৈলী স্থাস্যসি দুর্ভগে ৷৷1.64.12৷৷

দুর্ভগে O! Unfortunate one, রম্ভে Rambha, কামক্রোধজযৈষিণম্ with a desire to conquer wrath and passion, মাম্ me, যত্ since, লোভযসে seduce me (for that reason), দশ বর্ষসহস্রাণি ten thousand years, শৈলী as rock, স্থাস্যসি shall become.
'O luckless Rambha, since you have endeavoured to distract me from my desire to conquer wrath and passion, you shall turn into a rock and remain so for ten thousand years'.

রম্ভে O! Rambha, সুমহাতেজা: highly splendrous, তপোবলসমন্বিত: endowed with the power of asceticism, ব্রাহ্মণ: Brahmana, মত্ক্রোধকলুষীকৃতাম্ fouled on account of my anger, ত্বাম্ you, উদ্ধরিষ্যতি will liberate.
'O Rambha! an effulgent brahmin, endowed with the power of asceticism, will liberate you from this state into which you have fallen on account of my anger'.

The brilliant Viswamitra, the great ascetic, now experienced remorse for his inability to contain anger.

তদা then, তস্য his মহতা by great, শাপেন (because of )curse, রম্ভা Rambha, শৈলী অভবত্ became a rock, মহর্ষে: maharshi's, বচ: words, শ্রুত্বা having listened, কন্দর্প: Kandarapa, স: চ devendra, নির্গত: fled away.
This mighty curse, of the great saint transformed Rambha into a rock and sent Kamadeva and Indra to their heels.
কোপেন স মহাতেজাস্তপোপহরণে কৃতে৷
ইন্দ্রিযৈরজিতৈ রাম! ন লেভে শান্তিমাত্মন:৷৷1.64.16৷৷

রাম O! Rama, মহাতেজা: highly powerful, স: Visvamitra, কোপেন with anger, তপোপহরণে in deprivation of his ascetic merit, কৃতে having been made, অজিতৈ: with unconquered, ইন্দ্রিযৈ: senses, আত্মন: his own, শান্তিম্ peace, ন লেভে did not get.
"O Rama! highly powerful Viswamitra was deprived of his ascetic merit due to his
anger. He had no peace of mind for his inability to control his senses.
বভূবাস্য মনশ্চিন্তা তপোপহরণে কৃতে ৷
নৈব ক্রোধং গমিষ্যামি ন চ বক্ষ্যে কথঞ্চন৷৷1.64.17৷৷
নৈব ক্রোধং গমিষ্যামি ন চ বক্ষ্যে কথঞ্চন৷৷1.64.17৷৷
তপোপহরণে কৃতে having been deprived of his ascetic merit, অস্য for him, মনশ্চিন্তা বভূব thought arose in his mind, ক্রোধম্ anger, নৈব গমিষ্যামি never shall I obtain, কথঞ্চন in what so ever manner, ন চ বক্ষ্যে I shall not speak also.
Having been deprived of his ascetic merit, he resolved not to lose his temper nor ever breathe a word".

অথবা further, সংবত্সরশতান্যপি even for hundreds of years, নোচ্ছবসিষ্যামি I shall not breathe, অহম্ I, বিজিতেন্দ্রিয: having conquered my senses, আত্মানম্ this body, বিশোষযিষ্যামি will emaciate.
"Further, I shall not even inhale for hundreds of years. I shall conquer my senses and dry up this body.
তাবদ্যাবদ্ধি মে প্রাপ্তং ব্রাহ্মণ্যং তপসার্জিতম্৷
অনুচ্ছবসন্নভুঞ্জান স্তিষ্ঠেযং শাশ্বতীস্সমা:৷৷1.64.19৷৷
ন হি মে তপ্যমানস্য ক্ষযং যাস্যন্তি মূর্তয:৷
অনুচ্ছবসন্নভুঞ্জান স্তিষ্ঠেযং শাশ্বতীস্সমা:৷৷1.64.19৷৷
ন হি মে তপ্যমানস্য ক্ষযং যাস্যন্তি মূর্তয:৷
মে for me, তপসা by austerities, আর্জিতম্ earned, ব্রাহ্মণ্যম্ brahminhood, যাবত্ until, প্রপ্তম্ is obtained, তাবত্ till then, অনুচ্ছবসন্ suspending my breath, অভুঞ্জান: abstaining from food, শাশ্বতী: সমা: for innumerable years, তিষ্ঠেযম্ I shall stay, তপ্যমানসয while performing austerities, মে my, মূর্তয: limbs, ক্ষযম্ deterioration, ন যাস্যন্তি will not get.
Until brahminhood is obtained by my austerities, I shall stay without breathing or eating for innumerable years. While performing penance, my limbs shall not undergo deterioration".

রঘুনন্দন! O! Rama, স: মুনিপুঙ্গব: that eminent ascetic, এবম্ in this way, লোকে in this world, অপ্রতিমাম্ unparalleled, বর্ষসহস্রস্য দীক্ষাম্ religious practices for a thousand years, প্রতিজ্ঞাং vow, চকার made.
"O Descendant of Raghu! in this way that eminent ascetic took an unprecedented vow to practise penance for a thousand years".
