মহামুনি: mighty ascetic, বিশ্বামিত্র: Visvamitra, বসিষ্ঠসহিত: accompanied by Vasista, উক্তবন্তম্ thus spoken, বীরম্ valiant, বৈদেহম্ king of Videha, নৃপম্ addressing king Janaka, বচনম্ words, উবাচ said.
When Janaka the valiant king of Videha thus spoke (on the genealogy of his family) the mighty ascetic Viswamitra accompanied by Vasishta said to Janaka:
অচিন্ত্যান্যপ্রমেযানি কুলানি নরপুঙ্গব!৷
ইক্ষ্বাকূণাং বিদেহানাং নৈষাং তুল্যোস্তি কশ্চন৷৷1.72.2৷৷
ইক্ষ্বাকূণাং বিদেহানাং নৈষাং তুল্যোস্তি কশ্চন৷৷1.72.2৷৷
নরপুঙ্গব O! Pre-eminent among men, ইক্ষ্বাকূণাম্ of kings of Ikshvaku, বিদেহানাং চ also of Videha, কুলানি races, অচিন্ত্যানি beyond comprehension, অপ্রমেযানি immeasurable, এষাং for these kings of Ikshvaku and Videha, তুল্য: equal, কশ্চন anyone, নাস্তি is not there.
"O Pre-eminent among men! the glory of the two races of Ikshvakus as also of Videhas is in comprehensible and immeasurable. There is none equal to these kings of the Ikshvakus and Videhas.

রাজন্ O! King, ঊর্মিলযা সহ along with Urmila, সীতা Sita, রামলক্ষ্মণযো: for Rama and Lakshmana (is being offered), সদৃশ: perfectly matched, ধর্মসম্বন্ধ: the marriage is in accordance with religious merit, রূপসম্পদাচ in virtue and beauty, সদৃশ: is fit.
O King! it is a perfect match between Sita and Rama and Urmila and Lakshmana. In respect of piety and beauty the match is perfect.

O Best of men! my words deserve to be heard. This younger brother king Kusadhwaja is knower of righteousness.

O King, O Eminent among men! we seek the hands of this virtuous king's two daughters, unrivalled in beauty, on earth, as consorts.

রাজন্ O! King, কুমারস্য of the youthful, ভরতস্য Bharata, ধীমত: sagacious, শত্রুঘ্নস্য চ for Satrughna also, মহাত্মনো: for the magnanimous ones, তযোরর্থে in the interests of both of them, সুতে two daughters, বরযাম: we choose.
O king! we choose your brother's daughters for the great souls: the young Bharata and the sagacious Satrughna.

Bestowed with youth and beauty, these sons of Dasaratha resemble kings in defending the worlds and gods in valour.

রাজেন্দ্র O! King, ইক্ষ্বাকো: Ikshvaku's, পুণ্যকর্মণঃ of pious deeds, ভবত: your, উভযোরপি both of you, কুলম্ races, সম্বন্ধেন by this alliance, অন্যগ্রম্ with clear vision, অনুবধ্যতাম্ let it be tied.
O King of kings (Janaka)! the bond between your race with its pious deeds and the Ikshvakus may be strenghthened by this alliance".

তদা then, বসিষ্ঠস্য Vasistha's, মতে by wish, বিশ্বামিত্রবচ: Viswamitra's words, শৃত্বা having listened, জনক: Janaka, প্রাংজলি: with folded palms, মুনিপুঙ্গবৌ addressing eminent asetics, বাক্যম্ words, উবাচ spoke.
Having heard the words of Viswamitra which echoed the wish of Vasishta, Janaka replied to the eminent ascetics with folded palms.
কুলং ধন্যমিদং মন্যে যেষাং নো মুনিপুঙ্গবৌ ৷
সদৃশং কুলসম্বন্ধং যদাজ্ঞাপযথ: স্বযম্৷৷1.72.10৷৷

যেষাম্ ন: for those of us, সদৃশং befitting, কুলসম্বন্ধম্ alliance of the two races, মুনিপুঙ্গবৌ two eminent ascetics, স্বযম্ on your own, যত্ for which reason, আজ্ঞাপযথ: are commanding, ইদম্ this, কুলম্ race, ধন্যম্ blessed, মন্যে I consider.
"Since both of you, eminent ascetics, recomended this befitting alliance of the two races on your own, I regard my race as blessed.

এবং ভবতু let it be so, ব: ভদ্রং: prosperity to you, ইমে these, কুশধ্বজসুতে daughters of Kusadhwaja, সহিতৌ together moving, শত্রুঘ্নভরতৌ for Satrughna and Bharata, উভৌ for both of them, পত্ন্যৌ as wives, ভজেতাম্ let them serve.
"Let it be so, Be blessed! Let these two daughters of Kusadhwaja (Mandavi and Srutakirti) be the wives of Satrughna and Bharata respectively and serve them.
একাহ্না রাজপুত্রীণাং চতসৃণাং মহামুনে!৷
পাণীন্ গৃহ্ণন্তু চত্বারো রাজপুত্রা মহাবলা:৷৷1.72.12৷৷

মহামুনে O! Great ascetic, মহাবলা: valiant, চত্বার: four, রাজপুত্রা: princes, একাহ্না on the same day, চতসৃ়ণাম্ of the four, রাজপুত্রীণাম্ princesses, পাণীন্ hands, গৃহ্ণন্তু let them take.
O Great ascetic! let the valiant four princes take the hands of four princesses on the same day.
উত্তরে দিবসে ব্রহ্মন্! ফল্গুনীভ্যাং মনীষিণ:৷
বৈবাহিকং প্রশংসন্তি ভগো যত্র প্রজাপতি:৷৷1.72.13৷৷

ব্রহ্মন্ O! Foremost among brahmins, ফল্গুনীভ্যাম্ উত্তরে দিবসে on the later day of the ascent of the two Phalgunis (Phalgunis are two sisters. The previous day of the ascent of Phalguni stars, Poorva Phalguni wil be ascendent and the folowing day Uttara Phalguni wil be ascendant ), যত্র in which day, প্রজাপতি: bestower of children, ভগ: Bhaga, বৈবাহিকম্ to perform marriage, মনীষিণ: wise people, প্রশংসন্তি are praising.
"The wise, O Brahmin! think the marriage is favourable when Bhaga is Prajapati on the succeeding day of the ascent of the two stars. (that is, when poorva is followed by uttara phalguni).

জনক: রাজা king Janaka, এবম্ thus, সৌম্যম্ pleasing, বচ: words, উক্ত্বা having spoken, প্রত্যুত্থায having stood up, কৃতাঞ্জলি: with folded hands, উভৌ both, মুনিবরৌ great ascetics, বাক্যম্ words, অব্রবীত্ spoke.
King Janaka, having spoken these pleasing words, stood up and with folded hands addressing both the great ascetics:
পরো ধর্ম: কৃতো মহ্যং শিষ্যোস্মিভবতো সদা৷
ইমান্যাসনমুখ্যানি আসাতাং মুনিপুঙ্গবৌ৷৷1.72.15৷৷

মহ্যম্ for me, পর: supreme, ধর্ম: religious merit, কৃত: has been done, সদা always, ভবতো: for both of you, শিষ্য: অস্মি I am a desciple, মুনিপুঙ্গবৌ eninent ascestics, ইমানি these, আসনমুখ্যানি best of thrones, আসাতাম্ occupy.
"You have earned me a great religious merit. I shall be always your disciple O Eminent ascestics, occupy these important seats".
যথা দশরথস্যেযং তথাযোধ্যা পুরী মম৷
প্রভুত্বে নাস্তি সন্দেহো যথার্হং কর্তুমর্হথ৷৷1.72.16৷৷

ইযম্ this Mithila, দশরথস্য Dasaratha's, যথা as, অযোধ্যা পুরী Ayodhya city, মম to me, তথা so it is, প্রভুত্বে in the matter of governance, সন্দেহ: doubt, নাস্তি not there, যথার্হম্ appropriately, কর্তুম্ to do, অর্হথ behoves of you.
"Dasaratha has right on the city of Ayodhya as much as I have on this. This right is unquestionable. So do whatever you think right".
তথা ব্রুবতি বৈদেহে জনকে রঘুনন্দন:৷
রাজা দশরথো হৃষ্ট: প্রত্যুবাচ মহীপতিম্৷৷1.72.17৷৷

বৈদেহে when the king of Videha, জনকে Janaka, তথা in that manner, ব্রুবতি while speaking, রঘুনন্দন: descendent of Raghu, রাজা দশরথ: king Dasaratha, হৃষ্ট: pleased, মহীপতিম্ addressing king Janaka, প্রত্যুবাচ replied.
To the words of Janaka, king of Videha, king Dasaratha, the descendant of Raghu cheerfully replied:
যুবামসঙ্খ্যেযগুণৌ ভ্রাতরৌ মিথিলেশ্বরৌ৷
ঋষযো রাজসঙ্ঘাশ্চ ভবদ্ভ্যামভিপূজিতা:৷৷1.72.18৷৷
ঋষযো রাজসঙ্ঘাশ্চ ভবদ্ভ্যামভিপূজিতা:৷৷1.72.18৷৷
মিথিলেশ্বরৌ lords of Mithila, ভ্রাতরৌ brothers, যুবাম্ both of you, অসঙ্খ্যেযগুণৌ have countless virtues, ভবদ্ভ্যাম্ by you, ঋষয: rishis, রাজসঙ্ঘাশ্চ hosts of kings, অভিপূজিতা: have been worshipped.
"You both brothers are lords of Mithila. You possess countless virtues. You pay regards to many rishis and hosts of kings".

স্বস্তি safety, প্রাপ্নুহি you may obtain, তে ভদ্রম্ prosperity to you, স্বম্ relating to mine, আলযম্ residence, গমিষ্যামি I shall go, সর্বাণি all, শ্রাদ্ধকর্মাণি rites concerning the ceremony in accordance with the rituals, বিধাস্যামি চ I shall perform, ইতি thus, অব্রবীত্ spoke.
"Be safe. Be blessed. Let me retire to the camp. I have to perform the rites offerings to the forefathers".
তমাপৃষ্ট্বা নরপতিং রাজা দশরথস্তদা৷
মুনীন্দ্রৌ তৌ পুরস্কৃত্য জগামাশু মহাযশা:৷৷1.72.20৷৷

তদা then, মহাযশা: renowned, রাজা দশরথ: king Dasaratha, তম্ that, নরপতিম্ king men, আপৃষ্ট্বা having taken leave of, তৌ those two, মুনীন্দ্রৌ ascetics, পুরস্কৃত্য placing them in the fore-front, আশু immediately, জগাম went away.
Then renowned king Dasaratha, took leave of the two great ascetics. Then the rowned king Dasaratha took have of the king (Janaka) immediately following the two great ascetics.
স গত্বা নিলযং রাজা শ্রাদ্ধং কৃত্বা বিধানত:৷
প্রভাতে কাল্যমুত্থায চক্রে গোদানমুত্তমম্৷৷1.72.21৷৷

স: that, রাজা king, নিলযম্ residence, গত্বা having gone, বিধানত: according to scriptures, শ্রাদ্ধম্ Shraddha ceremony, কৃত্বা having performed, প্রভাতে at dawn, উত্থায having risen, কাল্যম্ appropriate to the time, উত্তমম্ excellent, গোদানম্ gifting of cows (a ceremony duly initiating the marriage, vow of Snathaka ), চক্রে made.
The king (Dasaratha) reached the abode, performed the sharaddha ceremony in accordance with the scriptures. Next day at dawn at appropriate time he gifted away cows (a ceremony performed by initiating the bridegrooms into the marriage.)
গবাং শতসহস্রাণি ব্রাহ্মণেভ্যো নরাধিপ:৷
একৈকশো দদৌ রাজা পুত্রানুদ্দিশ্য ধর্মত:৷৷1.72.22৷৷

নরাধিপ: lord of men, রাজা king, পুত্রান্ sons, একৈকশ: for each one, উদ্ধিশ্য referring to their names, ব্রাহ্মণেভ্য: for brahmins, গবাম্ cows, শতসহস্রাণি in hundred thousands, ধর্মত: in accordance with law, দদৌ bestowed.
For the welfare of each of his sons the king (Dasaratha) religiously gave away a hundred thousand cows to brahmins.

দদৌ গোদানমুদ্দিশ্য পুত্রাণাং পুত্রবত্সল:৷৷1.72.24৷৷
পুরুষর্ষভ: great among men, পুত্রবত্সল: affectionate towards his children, রঘুনন্দন: Dasaratha, পুত্রাণাম্ sons', গোদানম্ gifting away of cows, উদ্ধিশ্য with reference to that, সুবর্ণশ্রুঙ্গা: with their horns plaited with gold, সম্পন্না: endowed with abundance(of milk), সবত্সা: accompanied by calves, কাংস্যদোহনা: bronze vessels for milking, গবাম্ of cows, চত্বারি four, শতসহস্রাণি a hundred thousand, অন্যত্ other, সুবহু innumerable, বিত্তম্ চ valuables, দ্বিজেভ্য: for brahmins, দদৌ bestowed.
Great among men and affectionate towards his children, (king Dasaratha), the delight of the Raghus donated in the name of his sons' donates to the brahmins four hundred thousand cows. They were capable of abundance of milk. Their horns were plaited with gold. They were accompanied by calves. With them were given away bell-metal vessels for keeping milk and innumerable valuables.

কৃতগোদানৈ: having distributed the cows, সুতৈ: with his sons, বৃত: surrounded, স: that, নৃপতি: king, তদা then, লোকপালৈ: by guardians of worlds, বৃত: surrounded, সৌম্য: pleased, প্রজাপতিরিব like brahma, আভাতি shining.
With his sons for whose sake cows have been given away the cheerful king looked like shining Prajapati surrrounded by the guardians of the world.
