[Rama, Sita and Lakshmana's grief over king Dasaratha's death --- Rama and Lakshmana offer libations of water in Mandakini river]

ತಾಂ ಶ್ರುತ್ವಾ ಕರುಣಾಂ ವಾಚಂ ಪಿತುರ್ಮರಣಸಂಹಿತಾಮ್.

ರಾಘವೋ ಭರತೇ ನೋಕ್ತಾಂ ಬಭೂವ ಗತಚೇತನಃ৷৷2.102.1৷৷


ರಾಘವಃ one born in the race of the Raghus (Rama), ಭರತೇನ by Bharata, ಉಕ್ತಾಮ್ uttered, ಪಿತುಃ father's, ಮರಣಸಂಹಿತಾಮ್ union with death, ಕರುಣಾಮ್ pitiable, ತಾಂ those, ವಾಚಮ್ words, ಶ್ರುತ್ವಾ on hearing, ಗತ ಚೇತನಃ unconscious, ಬಭೂವ became.

Having heard the words of Bharata regarding the death of his father, Rama became unconscious.
ತಂ ತು ವಜ್ರಮಿವೋತ್ಸೃಷ್ಟಮಾಹವೇ ದಾನವಾರಿಣಾ

ವಾಗ್ವಜ್ರಂಭರತೇ ನೋಕ್ತ ಮಮನೋಜ್ಞಂ ಪರನ್ತಪಃ৷৷2.102.2৷৷

ಪ್ರಗೃಹ್ಯ ರಾಮೋ ಬಾಹೂ ವೈಪುಷ್ಪಿತಾಗ್ರೋ ಯಥಾ ದ್ರುಮಃ.

ವನೇ ಪರಶುನಾ ಕೃತ್ತಸ್ತಥಾ ಭುವಿ ಪಪಾತ ಹ৷৷2.102.3৷৷


ಪರನ್ತಪಃ destroyer of enemies, ರಾಮಃ Rama, ಆಹವೇ in the battle, ದಾನವಾರಿಣಾ by the enemy of demons (Indra), ಉತ್ಸೃಷ್ಟಮ್ hurled, ವಜ್ರಮಿವ like thunderbolt, ಅಮನೋಜ್ಞಮ್ unpleasant, ಭರತೇನ by Bharata, ಉಕ್ತಮ್ spoken, ತಮ್ that, ವಾಗ್ವಜ್ರಮ್ thunder-like words, ಬಾಹೂ both arms, ಪ್ರಗೃಹ್ಯ stretching forth, ವನೇ in the forest, ಪರಶುನಾ by an axe, ಕೃತ್ತಃ severed, ಪುಷ್ಪಿತಾಗ್ರಃ with flowering tops, ದ್ರುಮಃ tree, ಯಥಾ as, ತಥಾ like that, ಭುವಿ on the ground, ಪಪಾತ ಹ fell down.

On hearing the thunder-like words spoken by Bharata afflicting the mind, like the
thunderbolt hurled by Indra (enemy of demons) in a battle, Rama, the scorcher of enemies, stretching forth both his arms, fell down on the ground like a tree with flowering tops severed by an axe in the forest.
ತಥಾ ನಿಪತಿತಂ ರಾಮಂ ಜಗತ್ಯಾಂ ಜಗತೀಪತಿಮ್.

ಕೂಲಘಾತಪರಿಶ್ರಾನ್ತಂ ಪ್ರಸುಪ್ತಮಿವ ಕುಞ್ಜರಮ್৷৷2.102. 4৷৷

ಭ್ರಾತರಸ್ತೇ ಮಹೇಷ್ವಾಸಂ ಸರ್ವತಶ್ಶೋಕಕರ್ಶಿತಮ್.

ರುದನ್ತಸ್ಸಹ ವೈದೇಹ್ಯಾ ಸಿಷಿಚುಸ್ಸಲಿಲೇನ ವೈ৷৷2.102.5৷৷


ತಥಾ that way, ಜಗತ್ಯಾಮ್ on the earth, ನಿಪತಿತಮ್ fallen, ಜಗತೀಪತಿಮ್ lord of the world, ಕೂಲಘಾತಪರಿಶ್ರಾನ್ತಮ್ exhausted from striking a river bank, ಪ್ರಸುಪ್ತಮ್ asleep, ಕುಞ್ಜರಮ್ ಇವ like an elephant, ಮಹೇಷ್ವಾಸಮ್ a great archer, ಶೋಕಕರ್ಶಿತಮ್ afflicted with grief, ರಾಮಮ್ Rama, ಸರ್ವತಃ on all sides, ವೈದೇಹ್ಯಾ ಸಹ along with Sita, ತೇ those, ಭ್ರಾತರಃ brothers, ರುದನ್ತಃ lamenting, ಸಲಿಲೇನ with waters, ಸಿಷಿಚುಃ ವೈ sprinkled.

Those brothers on all sides, with Sita lamenting, sprinkled water on Rama, the great archer and lord of the earth who, afflicted with grief, had fallen down on the ground, and was lying like an elephant exhausted from repeatedly striking a river bank.
ಸ ತು ಸಂಜ್ಞಾಂ ಪುನರ್ಲಬ್ಧ್ವಾ ನೇತ್ರಾಭ್ಯಾಮಸ್ರಮುತ್ಸೃಜನ್.

ಉಪಾಕ್ರಾಮತ ಕಾಕುತ್ಸ್ಥ ಕೃಪಣಂ ಬಹು ಭಾಷಿತುಮ್৷৷2.102.6৷৷


ಸಃ ಕಾಕುತ್ಸ್ಥ that Rama, ಪುನಃ again, ಸಂಜ್ಞಾಮ್ consciousness, ಲಬ್ಧ್ವಾ regaining, ನೇತ್ರಾಭ್ಯಾಮ್ from eyes, ಅಸ್ರಮ್ tears, ಉತ್ಸೃಜನ್ shedding, ಕೃಪಣಮ್ piteously, ಬಹು excessively, ಭಾಷಿತುಮ್ to speak, ಉಪಾಕ್ರಾಮತ started.

On regaining consciousness, shedding tears profusely, Rama again started speaking piteously.
ಸ ರಾಮಸ್ಸ್ವರ್ಗತಂ ಶ್ರುತ್ವಾ ಪಿತರಂ ಪೃಥಿವೀಪತಿಮ್.

ಉವಾಚ ಭರತಂ ವಾಕ್ಯಂ ಧರ್ಮಾತ್ಮಾ ಧರ್ಮಸಂಹಿತಮ್৷৷2.102.7৷৷


ಧರ್ಮಾತ್ಮಾ righteous, ಸಃ ರಾಮಃ that Rama, ಪೃಥಿವೀಪತಿಮ್ lord of the world, ಪಿತರಮ್ father, ಸ್ವರ್ಗತಮ್ had attained heaven, ಶ್ರುತ್ವಾ on hearing, ಭರತಮ್ to Bharata, ಧರ್ಮಸಂಹಿತಮ್ that which was in
conformity with his rightful conduct, ವಾಕ್ಯಮ್ words, ಉವಾಚ said.

On hearing that his father, king Dasaratha, the lord of the world had attained heaven, righteous Rama said to Bharata in conformty with his rightful conduct.
ಕಿಂ ಕರಿಷ್ಯಾಮ್ಯಯೋಧ್ಯಾಯಾಂ ತಾತೇ ದಿಷ್ಟಾಂ ಗತಿಂ ಗತೇ.

ಕಸ್ತಾಂ ರಾಜವರಾಧ್ದೀನಾಮಯೋಧ್ಯಾಂ ಪಾಲಯಿಷ್ಯತಿ৷৷2.102.8৷৷


ತಾತೇ father, ದಿಷ್ಟಾಂ ಗತಿಮ್ the path ordained by the gods, ಅಯೋಧ್ಯಾಯಾಮ್ in Ayodhya, ಕಿಂ ಕರಿಷ್ಯಾಮಿ what shall I do, ರಾಜವರಾತ್ by the best of kings, ಹೀನಾಮ್ deprived, ತಾಮ್ ಅಯೋಧ್ಯಾಮ್ that Ayodhya, ಕಃ who, ಪಾಲಯಿಷ್ಯತಿ will rule.

What shall I do in Ayodhya now that my father has followed the path ordained by the gods? Who will rule that Ayodhya deprived of that best of kings?
ಕಿಂ ನು ತಸ್ಯ ಮಯಾ ಕಾರ್ಯಂ ದುರ್ಜಾತೇನ ಮಹಾತ್ಮನಃ.

ಯೋ ಮೃತೋ ಮಮ ಶೋಕೇನ ಮಯಾ ಚಾಪಿ ನ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಃ৷৷2.102.9৷৷


ಯಃ that king Dasaratha, ಮಮ ಶೋಕೇನ of grief on account of me, ಮೃತಃ died, ಮಯಾ by me, ನ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಶ್ಚಾಪಿ the last rites could not be performed, ತಸ್ಯ for him, ಮಹಾತ್ಮನಃ for that magnanimous one, ದೂರ್ಜಾತೇನ of unlucky birth, ಮಯಾ by me, ಕಿಂ ನು ಕಾರ್ಯಮ್ of what use?

I could not even perform the last rites of that magnanimous one who died of grief on account of me. What use is my life with an unlucky birth?
ಅಹೋ ಭರತ! ಸಿದ್ಧಾರ್ಥೋ ಯೇನ ರಾಜಾ ತ್ವಯಾನಘ.

ಶತ್ರುಘ್ನೇನ ಚ ಸರ್ವೇಷು ಪ್ರೇತಕೃತ್ಯೇಷು ಸತ್ಕೃತಃ৷৷2.102.10৷৷


ಅನಘ O irreproachable one, ಭರತ! Bharata, ಯೇನ ತ್ವಯಾ by you, ಶತ್ರುಘ್ನೇನ by Satrughna, ರಾಜಾ king, ಸರ್ವೇಷು in all, ಪ್ರೇತಕೃತ್ಯೇಷು in last rites, ಸತ್ಕೃತಃ well-honoured, ಸಿದ್ಧಾರ್ಥಃ you have fulfilled your duty, ಅಹೋ fortunate indeed.

O irreproachable Bharata, it is gratifying that you and Satrughna are indeed fortunate to have fulfilled your cherished desire since the king was well-honoured by you with all the obsequial rites.
ನಿಷ್ಪ್ರಧಾನಾಮನೇಕಾಗ್ರಾಂ ನರೇನ್ದ್ರೇಣ ವಿನಾಕೃತಾಮ್.

ನಿವೃತ್ತವನವಾಸೋಪಿ ನಾಯೋಧ್ಯಾಂ ಗನ್ತು ಮುತ್ಸಹೇ৷৷2.102.11৷৷


ನಿವೃತ್ತವನವಾಸೋಪಿ even after completion of the exile, ನಿಷ್ಪ್ರಧಾನಾಮ್ bereft of chief, ಅನೇಕಾಗ್ರಮ್ directionless, ನರೇನ್ದ್ರೇಣ by the king, ವಿನಾಕೃತಾಮ್ deprived, ಅಯೋಧ್ಯಾಮ್ Ayodhya, ಗನ್ತುಮ್ to return, ನ ಉತ್ಸಹೇ I do not desire.

Even after the completion of my exile I do not wish to return to Ayodhya which is directionless, bereft of its chief, the king.
ಸಮಾಪ್ತವನವಾಸಂ ಮಾಮಯೋಧ್ಯಾಯಾಂ ಪರನ್ತಪ.

ಕೋನು ಶಾಸಿಷ್ಯತಿ ಪುನಸ್ತಾತೇ ಲೋಕಾನ್ತರಂ ಗತೇ৷৷2.102.12৷৷


ಪರನ್ತಪ O subduer of enemies, Bharata, ತಾತೇ with father, ಲೋಕಾನ್ತರಮ್ to the other world, ಗತೇ having gone to, ಸಮಾಪ್ತವನವಾಸಮ್ on completion the exile, ಮಾಮ್ me, ಪುನಃ again, ಅಯೋಧ್ಯಾಮ್ in Ayodhya, ಕಃ who, ಅನುಶಾಸಿಷ್ಯತಿ guide.

O subduer of enemies, when father has gone to the other world, who will guide me in Ayodhya after I complete my term of exile?
ಪುರಾ ಪ್ರೇಕ್ಷ್ಯ ಸುವೃತ್ತಂ ಮಾಂ ಪಿತಾ ಯಾನ್ಯಾಹ ಸಾನ್ತ್ವಯನ್.

ವಾಕ್ಯಾನಿ ತಾನಿ ಶ್ರೋಷ್ಯಾಮಿ ಕುತಶ್ಶ್ರೋತ್ರಸುಖಾನ್ಯಹಮ್৷৷2.102.13৷৷


ಪುರಾ in the past, ಪಿತಾ father, ಮಾಮ್ me, ಸುವೃತ್ತಮ್ good conduct, ಪ್ರೇಕ್ಷ್ಯ on seeing, ಸಾನ್ತ್ವಯನ್
comforting, ಯಾನಿ ವಾಕ್ಯಾನಿ such words, ಆಹ used to say, ಶ್ರೋತ್ರ ಸುಖಾ pleasant to the ears, ತಾನಿ those words, ಕುತಃ from whom, ಶ್ರೋಷ್ಯಾಮಿ I can hear.

On seeing my good conduct our father used to say comforting words to me. Now
from whom can I hear such words pleasing to the ears?
ಏವಮುಕ್ತ್ವಾ ಸ ಭರತಂ ಭಾರ್ಯಾಮಭ್ಯೇತ್ಯ ರಾಘವಃ.

ಉವಾಚ ಶೋಕಸನ್ತಪ್ತಃ ಪೂರ್ಣಚನ್ದ್ರನಿಭಾನನಾಮ್৷৷2.102.14৷৷


ಸಃ ರಾಘವಃ that Rama, ಭರತಮ್ to Bharata, ಏವಮ್ in this way, ಉಕ್ತ್ವಾ having said, ಪೂರ್ಣಚನ್ದ್ರನಿಭಾನನಾಮ್ her face looking like the full Moon, ಭಾರ್ಯಾಮ್ wife, ಅಭ್ಯೇತ್ಯ having approached, ಶೋಕಸನ್ತಪ್ತಃ overhelmed with grief, ಉವಾಚ said.

Having thus spoken to Bharata, Rama, overwhelmed with grief, approached his wife Sita whose face looked like the full Moon, and said to her.
ಸೀತೇ ಮೃತಸ್ತೇ ಶ್ವಶುರಃ ಪಿತ್ರಾ ಹೀನೋಸಿ ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಣ.

ಭರತೋ ದುಃಖಮಾಚಷ್ಟೇ ಸ್ವರ್ಗತಂ ಪೃಥಿವೀಪತಿಮ್৷৷2.102.15৷৷


ಸೀತೇ O Sita, ತೇ ಶ್ವಶುರಃ your father-in-law, ಮೃತಃ is dead, ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಣ O Lakshmana, ಪಿತ್ರಾ father, ಹೀನಃ ಅಸಿ are deprived of, ಭರತಃ Bharata, ಪೃಥಿವೀಪತಿಮ್ lord of the world, king Dasaratha, ಸ್ವರ್ಗತಮ್ as having gone to heaven, ದುಃಖಮ್ sad news, ಆಚಷ್ಟೇ is relating.

O Sita, your father-in-law is dead. O Lakshmana, you are deprived of your father. Bharata is relating to me the sad news that king Dasaratha has attained his heavenly abode.
ತತೋ ಬಹುಗುಣಂ ತೇಷಾಂ ಬಾಷ್ಪೋ ನೇತ್ರೇಷ್ವಜಾಯತ.

ತಥಾ ಬ್ರುವತಿ ಕಾಕುತ್ಸ್ಥೇ ಕುಮಾರಾಣಾಂ ಯಶಸ್ವಿನಾಮ್৷৷2.102.16৷৷


ಕಾಕುತ್ಸ್ಥೇ when Rama, ತಥಾ thus, ಬ್ರುವತಿ while saying, ತತಃ thereafter, ಯಶಸ್ವಿನಾಮ್ of the illustrious, ತೇಷಾಮ್ those, ಕುಮಾರಾಣಾಮ್ of the sons of Dasaratha, ನೇತ್ರೇಷು in their eyes, ಬಹುಗುಣಮ್
copious, ಬಾಷ್ಪಃ tears, ಅಜಾಯತ welled up.

While the scion of the Kakutsthas was saying thus, copious tears welled up from the eyes of all those illustrious sons of Dasaratha.
ತತಸ್ತೇ ಭ್ರಾತರ ಸ್ಸರ್ವೇ ಭೃಶಮಾಶ್ವಾಸ್ಯ ರಾಘವಮ್.

ಅಬ್ರುವನ್ ಜಗತೀಭರ್ತುಃ ಕ್ರಿಯತಾಮುದಕಂ ಪಿತುಃ৷৷2.102.17৷৷


ತತಃ then, ಸರ್ವೇ all, ತೇ ಭ್ರಾತರಃ his brothers, ರಾಘವಮ್ Rama, ಭೃಶಮ್ greatly, ಆಶ್ವಾಸ್ಯ having consoled, ಜಗತೀಭರ್ತುಃ to the protector of the world, Dasaratha, ಪಿತುಃ to father, ಉದಕಮ್ libations of water, ಕ್ರಿಯತಾಮ್ may be offered, ಅಬ್ರುವನ್ they told.

All the brothers, having consoled Rama as best they could, told him, Let the libations be offered to our father, the protector of the world.
ಸಾ ಸೀತಾ ಶ್ವಶುರಂ ಶ್ರುತ್ವಾ ಸ್ವರ್ಗಲೋಕಗತಂ ನೃಪಮ್.

ನೇತ್ರಾಭ್ಯಾಮಶ್ರುಪೂರ್ಣಾಭ್ಯಾಮಶಕನ್ನೇಕ್ಷಿತುಂ ಪತಿಮ್৷৷2.102.18৷৷


ಸಾ ಸೀತಾ that Sita, ಶ್ವಶುರಮ್ father-in-law, ನೃಪಮ್ king Dasaratha, ಸ್ವರ್ಗಲೋಕಗತಮ್ as having attained heaven, ಶ್ರುತ್ವಾ having heard, ಅಶ್ರುಪೂರ್ಣಾಭ್ಯಾಮ್ filled with tears, ನೇತ್ರಾಭ್ಯಾಮ್ with eyes, ಪತಿಮ್ husband, ಈಕ್ಷಿತುಮ್ to see, ನಾಶಕತ್ was not able.

On hearing that her father-in-law, king Dasaratha, had attained heaven, Sita, her eyes filled with tears could not look at her husband in the face.
ಸಾನ್ತ್ವಯಿತ್ವಾ ತು ತಾಂ ರಾಮೋ ರುದನ್ತೀಂ ಜನಕಾತ್ಮಜಾಮ್.

ಉವಾಚ ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಣಂ ತತ್ರ ದುಃಖಿತೋ ದುಃಖಿತಂ ವಚಃ৷৷2.102.19৷৷


ರಾಮಃ Rama, ರುದನ್ತೀಮ್ weeping, ತಾಂ ಜನಕಾತ್ಮಜಾಮ್ that Sita, ಸಾನ್ತ್ವಯಿತ್ವಾ having consoled, ದುಃಖಿತಃ overcome with grief, ದುಃಖಿತಮ್ distressed, ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಣಮ್ Lakshmana, ತತ್ರ then, ವಚಃ words, ಉವಾಚ said.

Having consoled Sita, daughter of Janaka, grief-stricken Rama said to Lakshmana who was also distressed with grief.
ಆನಯೇಙ್ಗುದಿಪಿಣ್ಯಾಕಂ ಚೀರಮಾಹರ ಚೋತ್ತರಮ್.

ಜಲಕ್ರಿಯಾರ್ಥಂ ತಾತಸ್ಯ ಗಮಿಷ್ಯಾಮಿ ಮಹಾತ್ಮನಃ৷৷2.102.20৷৷


ಇಙ್ಗುದಿಪಿಣ್ಯಾಕಮ್ oil cake of Ingudi fruit, ಆನಯ bring, ಉತ್ತರಮ್ upper, ಚೀರಂ ಚ bark garment, ಆಹರ fetch, ಮಹಾತ್ಮನಃ of the magnanimous, ತಾತಸ್ಯ father's, ಜಲಕ್ರಿಯಾರ್ಥಮ್ to offer libations of water, ಗಮಿಷ್ಯಾಮಿ I shall go.

I shall go and offer libations to my magnanimous father. Go and fetch the dried pulp of ingudi fruit and an upper garment made of bark.
ಸೀತಾ ಪುರಸ್ತಾದ್ವ್ರಜತು ತ್ವಮೇನಾಮಭಿತೋ ವ್ರಜ.

ಅಹಂ ಪಶ್ಚಾದ್ಗಮಿಷ್ಯಾಮಿ ಗತಿರ್ಹ್ಯೇಷಾ ಸುದಾರುಣಾ৷৷2.102.21৷৷


ಸೀತಾ Sita, ಪುರಸ್ತಾತ್ in front, ವ್ರಜತು let her proceed, ಏನಾಮ್ ಅಭಿತಃ ahead of her, ತ್ವಮ್ you, ವ್ರಜ go, ಅಹಮ್ I, ಪಶ್ಚಾತ್ behind, ಗಮಿಷ್ಯಾಮಿ shall go, ಏಷಾ this, ಗತಿಃ procession in mourning, ಸುದಾರುಣಾ ಹಿ is terrible indeed.

Let us proceed in this order -- you first, Sita second and I last. This procession in mourning is terrible indeed.
ತತೋ ನಿತ್ಯಾನುಗಸ್ತೇಷಾಂ ವಿದಿತಾತ್ಮಾ ಮಹಾಮತಿಃ.

ಮೃದುರ್ದಾನ್ತಶ್ಚ ಶಾನ್ತಶ್ಚ ರಾಮೇ ಚ ದೃಢಭಕ್ತಿಮಾನ್৷৷2.102.22৷৷

ಸುಮನ್ತ್ರ ಸ್ತೈರ್ನೃಪಸುತೈಸ್ಸಾರ್ಧಮಾಶ್ವಸ್ಯ ರಾಘವಮ್.

ಅವಾತಾರಯದಾಲಮ್ಬ್ಯ ನದೀಂ ಮನ್ದಾಕಿನೀಂ ಶಿವಾಮ್৷৷2.102.23৷৷


ತತಃ thereafter, ತೇಷಾಮ್ them, ನಿತ್ಯಾನುಗಃ constant follower, ವಿದಿತಾತ್ಮಾ knowledgeable in spiritual sciences, ಮಹಾಮತಿಃ endowed with great intelligence, ಮೃದುಃ soft-natured, ದಾನ್ತಶ್ಚ
self-controlled, ಶಾನ್ತಶ್ಚ tranquil-minded, ರಾಮೇ ಚ in Rama, ದೃಢಭಕ್ತಿಮಾನ್ staunchly devoted, ಸುಮನ್ತ್ರಃ Sumantra, ತೈಃ ನೃಪಸುತೈಃ ಸಾರ್ಧಮ್ along with those princes, ರಾಘವಮ್ Rama, ಆಶ್ವಾಸ್ಯ having consoled him, ಆಲಮ್ಬ್ಯ taking hold of his hand, ಶಿವಾಮ್ auspicious, ಮನ್ದಾಕಿನೀಂ ನದೀಮ್ (into) the river Mandakini, ಅವಾತಾರಯತ್ helped their descent.

Thereafter, their constant follower Sumantra who was conversant in spiritual knowledge, a high-minded person, soft-natured, self-controlled, tranquil-minded and staunchly devoted to Rama consoled him. Holding the hands of the princes, Sumantra helped their descent into the auspicious river Mandakini for taking bath.
ತೇ ಸುತೀರ್ಥಾಂ ತತಃ ಕೃಚ್ಛ್ರಾದುಪಾಗಮ್ಯ ಯಶಸ್ವಿನಃ.

ನದೀಂ ಮನ್ದಾಕಿನೀಂ ರಮ್ಯಾಂ ಸದಾ ಪುಷ್ಪಿತಕಾನನಾಮ್৷৷2.102.24৷৷

ಶೀಘ್ರಸ್ರೋತಸಮಾಸಾದ್ಯ ತೀರ್ಥಂ ಶಿವಮಕರ್ದಮಮ್.

ಸಿಷಿಚು ಸ್ತೂದಕಂ ರಾಜ್ಞೇ ತಾತೈತತ್ತೇ ಭವತ್ವಿತಿ৷৷2.102.25৷৷


ತತಃ then, ಯಶಸ್ವಿನಃ illustrious, ತೇ they, ಸುತೀರ್ಥಾಂ of convenient descent, ರಮ್ಯಾಮ್ enchanting, ಸದಾಪುಷ್ಪಿತಕಾನನಾಮ್ with forests always in blossom, ಶೀಘ್ರಸ್ರೋತಸಮ್ swiftly flowing, ಮನ್ದಾಕಿನೀಂ ನದೀಮ್ river Mandakini, ಕೃಚ್ಛ್ರಾತ್ with great difficulty, ಉಪಾಗಮ್ಯ having approached, ಅಕರ್ದಮಮ್ at a place that is not slushy, ಶಿವಮ್ auspicious, ತೀರ್ಥಮ್ descent, ಆಸಾದ್ಯ having reached, ತಾತ O father, ಏತತ್ these, ತೇ to you, ಭವತು let this be, ಇತಿ thus, ರಾಜ್ಞೇ for the king, ಉದಕಮ್ waters, ಸಿಷಿಚುಃ sprinkled. (offered libation).

The illustrious brothers approached with great difficulty the swift-flowing and enchanting river Mandakini which had convenient descent and endowed with forests always in bloom. They descended at an auspicious place that was not slushy and offered libations of water saying 'O father, let these offerings be yours'.
ಪ್ರಗೃಹ್ಯ ಚ ಮಹೀಪಾಲೋ ಜಲಪೂರಿತಮಞ್ಜಲಿಮ್.

ದಿಶಂ ಯಾಮ್ಯಾಮಭಿಮುಖೋ ರುದನ್ವಚನಮಬ್ರವೀತ್৷৷2.102.26৷৷


ಮಹೀಪಾಲಃ ruler of the earth, ಜಲಪೂರಿತಮ್ filled with water, ಅಞ್ಜಲಿಮ್ both palms cupped, ಪ್ರಗೃಹ್ಯ holding, ಯಾಮ್ಯಾಂ ದಿಶಮ್ relating to direction of Yama, the southern direction, ಅಭಿಮುಖಃ
facing, ರುದನ್ with sobs, ವಚನಮ್ words, ಅಬ್ರವೀತ್ said.

Rama, the ruler of the earth, held water with both palms cupped and, facing the south, the direction of Yama (the god of death) said these words, sobbing:
ಏತತ್ತೇ ರಾಜಶಾರ್ದೂಲ ವಿಮಲಂ ತೋಯಮಕ್ಷಯಮ್.

ಪಿತೃಲೋಕಗತ ಸ್ಯಾದ್ಯ ಮದ್ದತ್ತಮುಪತಿಷ್ಠತು৷৷2.102.27৷৷


ರಾಜಶಾರ್ದೂಲ O best of kings, ಪಿತೃಲೋಕಗತಸ್ಯ one who has attained the world of the ancestors, ತೇ to you, ಅದ್ಯ now, ಮದ್ದತ್ತಮ್ offered by me, ಏತತ್ this, ವಿಮಲಮ್ pure, ತೋಯಮ್ water, ಅಕ್ಷಯಮ್ inexhaustible, ಉಪತಿಷ್ಠತು let it reach you.

'O best of kings, you are gone to the world of the manes, and let this inexhaustible libation of pure water reach you'.
ತತೋ ಮನ್ದಾಕಿನೀತೀರಾತ್ಪ್ರತ್ಯುತ್ತೀರ್ಯ ಸ ರಾಘವಃ.

ಪಿತುಶ್ಚಕಾರ ತೇಜಸ್ವೀ ನಿವಾಪಂ ಭ್ರಾತೃಭಿಸ್ಸಹ৷৷2.102.28৷৷


ತತಃ then, ತೇಜಸ್ವೀ powerful, ರಾಘವಃ scion of the Raghu race (Rama), ಮನ್ದಾಕಿನೀತೀರಾತ್ from the bank the river Mandakini, ಪ್ರತ್ಯುತ್ತೀರ್ಯ climbing up, ಭ್ರಾತೃಭಿ: ಸಹ with his brothers, ಪಿತುಃ for the departed father, ನಿವಾಪಮ್ offerings of pinda ( balls of rice or flour), ಚಕಾರ made.

Then, the powerful scion of the Raghu race reached bank, from the bathing spot of the river Mandakini along with his brothers and offered pinda (an offering of rice flour to the departed) to his late lamented father.
ಐಙ್ಗುದಂ ಬದರೀಮಿಶ್ರಂ ಪಿಣ್ಯಾಕಂ ದರ್ಭಸಂಸ್ತರೇ.

ನ್ಯಸ್ಯ ರಾಮಸ್ಸದುಃಖಾರ್ತೋ ರುದನ್ವಚನಮಬ್ರವೀತ್৷৷2.102.29৷৷


ಸಃ ರಾಮಃ that Rama, ಬದರೀಮಿಶ್ರಮ್ mixed with badari fruits, ಐಙ್ಗುದಮ್ pertaining to the ingudi tree, ಪಿಣ್ಯಾಕಮ್ pulp made into balls, ದರ್ಭಸಂಸ್ತರೇ on a spread of darbha grass, ನ್ಯಸ್ಯ after placing, ದುಃಖಾರ್ತಃ overcome with distress, ರುದನ್ weeping, ವಚನಮ್ these words, ಅಬ್ರವೀತ್ said.

Placing the balls of ingudi pulp mixed with badari fruit on a spread of darbha grass, Rama, was overcome with grief and weeping, said:
ಇದಂ ಭುಙ್ಕ್ಷ್ವಮಹಾರಾಜ! ಪ್ರೀತೋ ಯದಶನಾ ವಯಮ್.

ಯದನ್ನಃ ಪುರುಷೋ ಭವತಿ ತದನ್ನಾ ಸ್ತಸ್ಯ ದೇವತಾಃ৷৷2.102.30৷৷


ಮಹಾರಾಜ O great king, ವಯಮ್ we, ಯದಶನಾಃ whatever is food, ಇದಮ್ such food, ಪ್ರೀತಃ well-pleased, ಭುಙ್ಕ್ಷ್ವ partake, ಪುರುಷಃ man, ಯದನ್ನಃ whichever food, ಭವತಿ takes, ತಸ್ಯ ದೇವತಾಃ his gods, ತದನ್ನಾಃ have the same food.

O great king, we offer you such food as we partake now. Be pleased to accept it. For, his gods are offered the food a man takes.
ತತ ಸ್ತೇನೈವ ಮಾರ್ಗೇಣ ಪ್ರತ್ಯುತ್ತೀರ್ಯ ನದೀತಟಾತ್.

ಆರುರೋಹ ನರವ್ಯಾಘ್ರೋ ರಮ್ಯಸಾನುಂ ಮಹೀಧರಮ್৷৷2.102.31৷৷


ತತಃ thereafter, ನರವ್ಯಾಘ್ರಃ best among men (Rama), ತೇನ that, ಮಾರ್ಗೇಣೈವ by the same path itself, ನದೀತಟಾತ್ from the river bank, ಪ್ರತ್ಯುತ್ತೀರ್ಯ having ascended, ರಮ್ಯಸಾನುಮ್ having charming slopes, ಮಹೀಧರಮ್ mountain, ಆರುರೋಹ climbed.

Rama, the tiger among men, ascending the riverbank and proceeding on the same path (he had come), climbed the (Chitrakuta) mountain of charming slopes.
ತತಃ ಪರ್ಣಕುಟೀದ್ವಾರಮಾಸಾದ್ಯ ಜಗತೀಪತಿಃ.

ಪರಿಜಗ್ರಾಹ ಬಾಹುಭ್ಯಾಮುಭೌ ಭರತಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಣೌ৷৷2.102.32৷৷


ತತಃ then, ಜಗತೀಪತಿಃ lord of the earth (Rama), ಪರ್ಣಕುಟೀದ್ವಾರಮ್ the door of leaf-hut, ಆಸಾದ್ಯ having reached, ಬಾಹುಭ್ಯಾಮ್ with his arms, ಭರತಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಣೌ Bharata and Lakshmana, ಉಭೌ both, ಪರಿಜಗ್ರಾಹ took hold of.

Rama, lord of the earth, reached the door of the leaf-hut and took Bharata and
Lakshmana in his arms.
ತೇಷಾಂ ತು ರುದತಾಂ ಶಬ್ದಾತ್ಪ್ರತಿಶ್ರುತ್ಕೋಭವದ್ಗಿರೌ.

ಭ್ರಾತ್ರೂಣಾಂ ಸಹ ವೈದೇಹ್ಯಾ ಸಿಂಹಾನಾಮಿವ ನರ್ದತಾಮ್৷৷2.102.33৷৷


ವೈದೇಹ್ಯಾ ಸಹ with Sita, ರುದತಾಮ್ of those lamenting people, ತೇಷಾಂ ಭ್ರಾತ್ರೂಣಾಮ್ all the brothers', ಶಬ್ದಾತ್ with the sound, ನರ್ದತಾಮ್ roaring, ಸಿಂಹಾನಾಮಿವ like the lions, ಶಬ್ದಾತ್ with sound, ಗಿರೌ in the mountain, ಪ್ರತಿಶ್ರುತ್ಕಃ ಅಭವತ್ was echoed.

The mountain echoed with the sound of lamentations of all the brothers along with Sita which resembled the roar of lions.
ಮಹಾಬಲಾನಾಂ ರುದತಾಂ ಕುರ್ವತಾಮುದಕಂ ಪಿತುಃ.

ವಿಜ್ಞಾಯ ತುಮುಲಂ ಶಬ್ದಂ ತ್ರಸ್ತಾ ಭರತ ಸೈನಿಕಾಃ৷৷2.102.34.


ಮಹಾಬಲಾನಾಮ್ of mighty ones, ಪಿತುಃ to father, ಉದಕಮ್ libations of water, ಕುರ್ವತಾಮ್ of those offering, ರುದತಾಮ್ lamenting brothers', ತುಮುಲಮ್ tumultous, ಶಬ್ದಮ್ sound, ವಿಜ್ಞಾಯ having come to know, ಭರತಸೈನಿಕಾಃ soldiers of Bharata, ತ್ರಸ್ತಾಃ were alarmed.

The soldiers of Bharata were alarmed on hearing the tumultuous sounds raised by those mighty brothers offering libations of water and lamenting.
ಅಬ್ರುವಂಶ್ಚಾಪಿ ರಾಮೇಣ ಭರತ ಸ್ಸಂಙ್ಗತೋ ಧ್ರುವಮ್.

ತೇಷಾಮೇವ ಮಹಾಞ್ಛಬ್ದಶ್ಶೋಚತಾಂ ಪಿತರಂ ಮೃತಮ್৷৷2.102.35৷৷


ಭರತಃ Bharata, ರಾಮೇಣ with Rama, ಸಙ್ಗತಃ joined, ಘೃವಮ್ this is certain, ಮೃತಮ್ deceased, ಪಿತರಮ್ about father, ಶೋಚತಾಮ್ lamenting, ತೇಷಾಮೇವ their only, ಮಹಾನ್ loud, ಶಬ್ದಃ noise, ಅಬ್ರುವನ್ ಚ ಅಪಿ they said.

They said, 'Bharata must have joined Rama. That loud noise must be their wailing over their deceased father'.
ಅಥ ವಾಸಾನ್ಪರಿತ್ಯಜ್ಯ ತಂ ಸರ್ವೇಭಿಮುಖಾಸ್ಸ್ವನಮ್.

ಅಪ್ಯೇಕಮನಸೋ ಜಗ್ಮುರ್ಯಥಾಸ್ಥಾನಂ ಪ್ರಧಾವಿತಾಃ৷৷2.102.36৷৷


ಸರ್ವೇ all of them, ಅಥ thereafter, ವಾಸಾನ್ their camps, ಪರಿತ್ಯಜ್ಯ leaving, ತಂ ಸ್ವನಮ್ that sound, ಅಭಿಮುಖಾಃ towards, ಏಕಮನಸಃ ಅಪಿ with only one thought in their minds, ಯಥಾಸ್ಥಾನಮ್ from their respective places, ಪ್ರಧಾವಿತಾಃ ran, ಜಗ್ಮುಃ went.

Then all of them left their camps with one single thought (of seeing Rama) in their minds and ran in the direction from where that sound emanated.
ಹಯೈರನ್ಯೇ ಗಜೈರನ್ಯೇ ರಥೈರನ್ಯೇ ಸ್ವಲಙ್ಕೃತೈಃ.

ಸುಕುಮಾರಾ ಸ್ತಥೈವಾನ್ಯೇ ಪದ್ಭಿರೇವ ನರಾ ಯಯುಃ৷৷2.102.37৷৷


ಅನ್ಯೇ some, ಹಯೈಃ on horses, ಅನ್ಯೇ ಗಜೈಃ some on elephants, ಸುಕುಮಾರಾಃ delicate men, ಅನ್ಯೇ others, ಸ್ವಲಙ್ಕೃತೈಃ well-decorated, ರಥೈಃ on chariots, ತಥೈವ similarly, ಅನ್ಯೇ other, ನರಾಃ men, ಪದ್ಭಿರೇವ on foot, ಯಯುಃ went.

Some rode horses, some, elephants, while others mounted well-decorated chariots, while the young went on foot.
ಅಚಿರಪ್ರೋಷಿತಂ ರಾಮಂ ಚಿರವಿಪ್ರೋಷಿತಂ ಯಥಾ.

ದ್ರಷ್ಟುಕಾಮೋ ಜನಸ್ಸರ್ವೋ ಜಗಾಮ ಸಹಸಾಶ್ರಮಮ್৷৷2.102.38৷৷


ಸರ್ವಃ all, ಜನಃ people, ಅಚಿರಪ್ರೋಷಿತಮ್ exiled recently, ರಾಮಮ್ Rama, ಚಿರವಿಪ್ರೋಷಿತಂ ಯಥಾ as if he had left long ago, ದ್ರಷ್ಟುಕಾಮಃ with a desire to see him, ಸಹಸಾ quickly, ಆಶ್ರಮಮ್ towards the hermitage, ಜಗಾಮ went.

The whole multitude of people at once rushed towards the hermitage wishing to see Rama as if he had left long ago though he had gone on exile very recently.
ಭ್ರಾತೃಾಂ ತ್ವರಿತಾ ಸ್ತತ್ರ ದ್ರಷ್ಟುಕಾಮಾ ಸ್ಸಮಾಗಮಮ್.

ಯಯುರ್ಬಹುವಿಧೈರ್ಯಾನೈ: ಖುರನೇಮಿಸ್ವನಾಕುಲೈಃ৷৷2.102.39৷৷


ತತ್ರ there, ಭ್ರಾತೃಾಮ್ of brothers, ಸಮಾಗಮಮ್ union of, ದ್ರಷ್ಟುಕಾಮಾಃ people wishing to see, ತ್ವರಿತಾಃ
hastily, ಖುರನೇಮಿಸ್ವನಾಕುಲೈಃ filled with the sounds of the hooves and wheels, ಬಹುವಿಧೈಃ by every sort of, ಯಾನೈ: on vehicle, ಯಯುಃ went.

Eager to see the union of brothers, all those people went by every sort of vehicle filled with the sounds of hooves and wheels.
ಸಾ ಭೂಮಿರ್ಬಹುಭಿರ್ಯಾನೈಃ ಖುರನೇಮಿಸಮಾಹತಾ.

ಮುಮೋಚ ತುಮುಲಂ ಶಬ್ದಂ ದ್ಯೌರಿವಾಭ್ರಸಮಾಗಮೇ৷৷2.102.40৷৷


ಬಹುಭಿ: by several, ಯಾನೈಃ by vehicles, ಖುರನೇಮಿ ಸಮಾಹತಾ crushed with hooves and wheels, ಸಾ ಭೂಮಿಃ the earth, ಅಭ್ರಸಮಾಗಮೇ at the gathering of storm-clouds, ದ್ಯೌರಿವ like the sky, ತುಮುಲಮ್ tumultous, ಶಬ್ದಮ್ sound, ಮುಮೋಚ emitted.

The earth crushed by several vehicles, hooves (of horses) and wheels (of chariots) emitted tumultuous sounds like the sky in the gathering storm-clouds.
ತೇನ ವಿತ್ರಾಸಿತಾ ನಾಗಾಃ ಕರೇಣುಪರಿವಾರಿತಾಃ.

ಆವಾಸಯನ್ತೋ ಗನ್ಧೇನ ಜಗ್ಮುರನ್ಯದ್ವನಂ ತತಃ৷৷2.102.41৷৷


ತೇನ by that (sound), ವಿತ್ರಾಸಿತಾಃ frightened, ಕರೇಣುಪರಿವಾರಿತಾಃ followed by the female elephants, ನಾಗಾಃ elephants, ಗನ್ಧೇನ with the odour of ichor, ಆವಾಸಯನ್ತಃ odorising, ತತಃ from there, ಅನ್ಯತ್ ವನಮ್ to another forest, ಜಗ್ಮುಃ went.

Frightened by the sound, the elephants followed by their females, spreading all the way the odour of the ichor, moved to other forests.
ವರಾಹ ವೃಕಸಙ್ಘಾಶ್ಚ ಮಹಿಷಾಸ್ಸರ್ಪವಾನರಾಃ.

ವ್ಯಾಘ್ರಗೋಕರ್ಣಗವಯಾ ವಿತ್ರೇಸುಃ ಪೃಷತೈ ಸ್ಸಹ৷৷2.102.42৷৷


ವರಾಹವೃಕಸಙ್ಘಾಶ್ಚ with host of boars and wolves, ಮಹಿಷಾಃ buffaloes, ಸರ್ಪವಾನರಾಃ serpents and apes, ವ್ಯಾಘ್ರಗೋಕರ್ಣಗವಯಾಃ tigers, antelopes with ears like cows', gavayas, ಪೃಷತೈಃ ಸಹ along with spotted deer, ವಿತ್ರೇಸುಃ were frightened.

Hearing that sound, hosts of boars and deer, buffaloes, serpents and apes, tigers, antelopes with ears like the cows', gavayas as well as dappled antelopes were all frightened.
ರಥಾಙ್ಗಸಾಹ್ವಾ ನತ್ಯೂಹಾ ಹಂಸಾಃ ಕಾರಣ್ಡವಾಃ ಪ್ಲವಾಃ.

ತಥಾ ಪುಂಸ್ಕೋಕಿಲಾಃ ಕ್ರೌಞ್ಚಾ ವಿಸಂಜ್ಞಾ ಭೇಜಿರೇ ದಿಶಃ৷৷2.102.43৷৷


ರಥಾಙ್ಗಸಾಹ್ವಾಃ ducks, ನತ್ಯೂಹಾ water-cranes, ಹಂಸಾಃ geese, ಕಾರಣ್ಡವಾಃ karandavas, ಪ್ಲವಾಃ cranes, ತಥಾ similarly, ಪುಂಸ್ಕೋಕಿಲಾಃ male cuckoos, ಕ್ರೌಞ್ಚಾಃ kraunchas, ವಿಸಂಜ್ಞಾಃ senselessly, ದಿಶಃ diffrent directions, ಭೇಜಿರೇ fled.

Ducks, water-cranes, geese, karandavas, cranes, male cuckoos and kraunchas fled senselessly in different directions.
ತೇನ ಶಬ್ದೇನ ವಿತ್ರಸ್ತೈರಾಕಾಶಂ ಪಕ್ಷಿಭಿರ್ವೃತಮ್.

ಮನುಷ್ಯೈರಾವೃತಾ ಭೂಮಿರುಭಯಂ ಪ್ರಬಭೌ ತದಾ৷৷2.102.44৷৷


ತೇನ ಶಬ್ದೇನ by that sound, ವಿತ್ರಸ್ತೈಃ frightened, ಪಕ್ಷಿಭಿಃ by birds also, ವೃತಮ್ filled with, ಆಕಾಶಮ್ the sky, ಮನುಷ್ಯೈಃ by people, ಆವೃತಾ covered, ಭೂಮಿಃ the earth, ಉಭಯಮ್ both, ತದಾ ಪ್ರಬಭೌ greatly shone.

The sky was filled with birds frightened by the sound and the earth covered with people. Both looked extremely beautiful.
ತತಸ್ತಂ ಪುರಷವ್ಯಾಘ್ರಂ ಯಶಸ್ವಿನಮರಿನ್ದಮಮ್.

ಆಸೀನಂ ಸ್ಥಣ್ಡಿಲೇ ರಾಮಂ ದದರ್ಶ ಸಹಸಾ ಜನಃ৷৷2.102.45৷৷


ತತಃ thereafter, ಜನಃ people, ಪುರುಷವ್ಯಾಘ್ರಂ best of men, ಯಶಸ್ವಿನಮ್ illustrious, ಅರಿನ್ದಮಮ್ one who is destroyer of enemies, ಸ್ಥಣ್ಡಿಲೇ on the bare earth, ಆಸೀನಮ್ squatted, ತಮ್ that, ರಾಮಮ್ Rama, ಸಹಸಾ at once, ದದರ್ಶ beheld.

All at once the people saw the illustrious Rama, the best of men, and the subduer of enemies squatting on the bare earth.
ವಿಗರ್ಹಮಾಣಃ ಕೈಕೇಯೀಂ ಮನ್ಥರಾಸಹಿತಾಮಪಿ.

ಅಭಿಗಮ್ಯ ಜನೋ ರಾಮಂ ಬಾಷ್ಪಪೂರ್ಣಮುಖೋಭವತ್৷৷2.102.46৷৷


ಜನಃ all men, ಮನ್ಥರಾಸಹಿತಾಮ್ including Manthara, ಕೈಕೇಯೀಮ್ Kaikeyi, ವಿಗರ್ಹಮಾಣಃ censuring, ರಾಮಮ್ to Rama, ಅಭಿಗಮ್ಯ having reached, ಬಾಷ್ಪಪೂರ್ಣಮುಖಃ with face filled with tears, ಅಭವತ್ became.

All those men with faces full of tears, reproaching Kaikeyi and Manthara (all the way), approached Rama.
ತಾನ್ನರಾನ್ಬಾಷ್ಪಪೂರ್ಣಾಕ್ಷಾನ್ಸಮೀಕ್ಷ್ಯಾಥ ಸುದುಃಖಿತಾನ್.

ಪರ್ಯಷ್ವಜತ ಧರ್ಮಜ್ಞಃ ಪಿತೃವನ್ಮಾತೃವಚ್ಚ ಸಃ৷৷2.102.47৷৷


ಧರ್ಮಜ್ಞಃ knower of righteousness, ಸಃ that Rama, ಅಥ thereafter, ಬಾಷ್ಪಪೂರ್ಣಾಕ್ಷಾನ್ eyes filled with tears, ಸುದುಃಖಿತಾನ್ deeply afflicted, ತಾನ್ನರಾನ್ those people, ಸಮೀಕ್ಷ್ಯ having seen, ಪಿತೃವತ್ like a father, ಮಾತೃವಚ್ಚ like a mother, ಪರ್ಯಷ್ವಜತ embraced.

Thereafter, beholding those people deeply afflicted, their eyes full of tears, Rama embraced them as if they were his own father and mother.
ಸ ತತ್ರ ಕಾಂಶ್ಚಿತ್ಪರಿಷಸ್ವಜೇ ನರಾನ್ನರಾಸ್ತು ಕೇಚಿತ್ತು ತಮಭ್ಯವಾದಯನ್.

ಚಕಾರ ಸರ್ವಾನ್ಸವಯಸ್ಯಬಾನ್ಧವಾನ್ಯಥಾರ್ಹ ಮಾಸಾದ್ಯ ತದಾ ನೃಪಾತ್ಮಜಃ৷৷2.102.48৷৷


ಸಃ Rama, ತತ್ರ there, ಕಾಂಶ್ಚಿತ್ some, ನರಾನ್ men, ಪರಿಷಸ್ವಜೇ embraced, ಕೇಚಿತ್ತು as for some, ನರಾಶ್ಚ men, ತಮ್ that Rama, ಅಭ್ಯವಾದಯನ್ paid obeisance, ತದಾ then, ಸಃ that, ನೃಪಾತ್ಮಜಃ king's son, ಸರ್ವಾನ್ all of them, ಆಸಾದ್ಯ having reached, ವಯಸ್ಯಬಾನ್ಧವಾನ್ friends and relations, ಯಥಾರ್ಹಮ್
as deserved, ಚಕಾರ made.

Rama embraced some, while others paid him obeisance. Therafter, he honoured his erstwhile companions and relations in accordance with their status.
ಸ ತತ್ರ ತೇಷಾಂ ರುದತಾಂ ಮಹಾತ್ಮನಾಂ ಭುವಂ ಚ ಖಂ ಚಾನುನಿನಾದಯನ್ಸ್ವನಃ.

ತತ್ರ there, ರುದತಾಮ್ weeping, ತೇಷಾಂ ಮಹಾತ್ಮನಾಮ್ those magnanimous persons, ಸ್ವನಃ that tumult, ಭುವಂ ಚ the earth, ಖಂ ಚ the sky, ಗಿರೀಣಾಮ್ of mountains, ಗುಹಾಶ್ಚ caves, ದಿಶಶ್ಚ the directions, ಅನುನಿನಾದಯನ್ reverberating, ಮೃದಙ್ಗಘೋಷಪ್ರತಿಮಃ like beating of drums, ಸನ್ತತಮ್ incessantly, ಪ್ರಶುಶ್ರುವೇ was heard.

The weeping and the tumult of those magnanimous people made the earth, sky, mountain-caves and all quarters reverberate incessantly like the beating of drums.
