[Sages praise Rama and Bharata for their virtues --- Bharata proclaims to stay outside Ayodhya and rule under the security of Rama's sandals.]

ತಮಪ್ರತಿಮತೇಜೋಭ್ಯಾಂ ಭ್ರಾತೃಭ್ಯಾಂ ರೋಮಹರ್ಷಣಮ್.

ವಿಸ್ಮಿತಾ ಸ್ಸಙ್ಗಮಂ ಪ್ರೇಕ್ಷ್ಯ ಸಮವೇತಾ ಮಹರ್ಷಯಃ৷৷2.112.1৷৷


ಸಮವೇತಾಃ those who had assembled, ಮಹರ್ಷಯಃ the great sages, ಅಪ್ರತಿಮತೇಜೋಭ್ಯಾಂ of both men of unparalleled brilliance, ಭ್ರಾತೃಭ್ಯಾಮ್ of brothers (Rama and Bharata), ತಮ್ that, ರೋಮಹರ್ಷಣಮ್ thrilled, ಸಙ್ಗಮಮ್ their meeting, ಪ್ರೇಕ್ಷ್ಯ witnessing, ವಿಸ್ಮಿತಾಃ were amazed.

The great sages assembled there were amazed at witnessing the meeting of the two brothers (Rama and Bharata) of umparalleled briliance.
ಅನ್ತರ್ಹಿತಾ ಮುನಿಗಣಾಸ್ಸಿದ್ಧಾಶ್ಚ ಪರಮರ್ಷಯಃ.

ತೌ ಭ್ರಾತರೌ ಮಹಾತ್ಮಾನೌ ಕಾಕುತ್ಸ್ಥೌ ಪ್ರಶಶಂಸಿರೇ৷৷2.112.2৷৷


ಅನ್ತರ್ಹಿತಾಃ remaining invisible, ಮುನಿಗಣಾಃ hosts of sages, ಸಿದ್ಧಾಶ್ಚ siddhas, ಪರಮರ್ಷಯ: devarshis, ಮಹಾತ್ಮಾನೌ magnanimous, ಭ್ರಾತರೌ brothers, ತೌ those two, ಕಾಕುತ್ಸ್ಥೌ Kakutsthas, ಪ್ರಶಶಂಸಿರೇ lauded.

The hosts of sages, siddhas and devarshis watching invisible the two Kakutstha brothers extoled them.
ಸ ಧನ್ಯೋ ಯಸ್ಯ ಪುತ್ರೌ ದ್ವೌ ಧರ್ಮಜ್ಞೌ ಧರ್ಮವಿಕ್ರಮೌ.

ಶ್ರುತ್ವಾ ವಯಂ ಹಿ ಸಮ್ಭಾಷಾಮುಭಯೋಸ್ಸ್ಪೃಹಯಾಮಹೇ৷৷2.112.3৷৷


ಧರ್ಮಜ್ಞೌ practioners of righteousness, ಧರ್ಮವಿಕ್ರಮೌ whose strength is righteousness, ದ್ವೌ both, ಯಸ್ಯ whose, ಪುತ್ರೌ two sons, ಸಃ he (Dasaratha), ಧನ್ಯಃ is fortunate, ವಯಮ್ we, ಸಂಭಾಷಾಮ್ their conversation, ಶ್ರುತ್ವಾ having heard, ಉಭಯೋಃ in respect of both of them, ಸ್ಪೃಹಯಾಮಹೇ ಹಿ we are
attached.

On hearing their dialogue we are deeply drawn towards them, these two sons of king Dasaratha who was fortunate to have these practioners of righteousness and whose strength is dharma.
ತತಸ್ತ್ವೃಷಿಗಣಾಃ ಕ್ಷಿಪ್ರಂ ದಶಗ್ರೀವವಧೈಷಿಣಃ.

ಭರತಂ ರಾಜಶಾರ್ದೂಲಮಿತ್ಯೂಚು ಸ್ಸಙ್ಗತಾ ವಚಃ৷৷2.112.4৷৷


ತತಃ thereafter, ಕ್ಷಿಪ್ರಮ್ quickly, ದಶಗ್ರೀವವಧೈಷಿಣಃ men desiring the destruction of ten-headed Ravana, ಋಷಿಗಣಾಃ hosts of rishi-s, ರಾಜಶಾರ್ದೂಲಮ್ best of kings, ಭರತಮ್ Bharata, ಇತಿ thus, ವಚಃ words, ಊಚುಃ uttered.

Thereafter hosts of rishis desiring the speedy destruction of ten-headed Ravana said these words to Bharata, the best of kings.
ಕುಲೇ ಜಾತ ಮಹಾಪ್ರಾಜ್ಞ ಮಹಾವೃತ್ತ ಮಹಾಯಶಃ.

ಗ್ರಾಹ್ಯಂ ರಾಮಸ್ಯ ವಾಕ್ಯಂ ತೇ ಪಿತರಂ ಯದ್ಯವೇಕ್ಷಸೇ৷৷2.112.5৷৷


ಕುಲೇ ಜಾತ O born in an illustrious race, ಮಹಾಪ್ರಾಜ್ಞ O highly sagacious one, ಮಹಾವೃತ್ತ of virtuous conduct, ಮಹಾಯಶಃ O man of great renown, ತೇ your, ಪಿತರಮ್ father, ಅವೇಕ್ಷಸೇ ಯದಿ if you look at your father, ರಾಮಸ್ಯ Rama's, ವಾಕ್ಯಮ್ words, ಗ್ರಾಹ್ಯಮ್ have to be accepted.

O Bharata, born in an illustrious race, highly sagacious and a man of virtuous conduct and great renown, accept Rama's proposal if you have any regard for your father.
ಸದಾನೃಣಮಿಮಂ ರಾಮಂ ವಯಮಿಚ್ಛಾಮಹೇ ಪಿತುಃ.

ಆನೃಣತ್ವಾಚ್ಚ ಕೈಕೇಯ್ಯಾ ಸ್ಸ್ವರ್ಗಂ ದಶರಥೋ ಗತಃ৷৷2.112.6৷৷


ವಯಮ್ we, ಇಮಂ ರಾಮಮ್ this Rama, ಸದಾ always, ಪಿತುಃ as regards his father, ಅನೃಣಮ್ free from debt, ಇಚ್ಛಾಮಹೇ we desire, ದಶರಥಃ Dasaratha, ಕೈಕೇಯ್ಯಾಃ to Kaikeyi, ಅನೃಣತ್ವಾಚ್ಚ by discharging
his obligation, ಸ್ವರ್ಗಮ್ heaven, ಗತಃ ascended.

We always desire that Rama should discharge his debt to his father. Dasaratha, who by redeeming himself of his obligation to Kaikeyi, had ascended heaven.
ಏತಾವದುಕ್ತ್ವಾ ವಚನಂ ಗನ್ಧರ್ವಾ ಸ್ಸಮಹರ್ಷಯಃ.

ರಾಜರ್ಷಯಶ್ಚೈವ ತದಾ ಸರ್ವೇ ಸ್ವಾಂ ಸ್ವಾಂ ಗತಿಂ ಗತಾಃ৷৷2.112.7৷৷


ತದಾ then, ಸಮಹರ್ಷಯಃ with great rishis, ಗನ್ಧರ್ವಾಃ gandharvas, ರಾಜರ್ಷಯಶ್ಚೈವ and royal sages, ಏತಾವತ್
upto this extent, ವಚನಮ್ word, ಉಕ್ತ್ವಾ having spoken, ಸರ್ವೇ all, ಸ್ವಾಂ ಸ್ವಾಮ್ to their respective, ಗತಿಮ್ abode, ಗತಾಃ went.

Then the great rishis, gandharvas and royal sages having said this, returned to their respective abodes.
ಹ್ಲಾದಿತಸ್ತೇನ ವಾಕ್ಯೇನ ಶುಭೇನ ಶುಭದರ್ಶನಃ.

ರಾಮ ಸ್ಸಂಹೃಷ್ಟವದನಸ್ತಾನೃಷೀನಭ್ಯಪೂಜಯತ್৷৷2.112.8৷৷


ಶುಭದರ್ಶನಃ of auspicious appearance, ರಾಮಃ Rama, ಶುಭೇನ by the auspicious, ತೇನ ವಾಕ್ಯೇನ by that statement, ಹ್ಲಾದಿತಃ was gladdened, ಸಂಹೃಷ್ಟವದನಃ with delightful countenance, ತಾನ್ ಋಷೀನ್ those rishis, ಅಭ್ಯಪೂಜಯತ್ paid homage.

Of pleasing appearance, Rama, gladdened by the auspicious statements (of the sages), paid them homage with a cheerful countenance.
ತ್ರಸ್ತಗಾತ್ರಸ್ತು ಭರತಸ್ಸ ವಾಚಾ ಸಜ್ಜಮಾನಯಾ.

ಕೃತಾಞ್ಜಲಿರಿದಂ ವಾಕ್ಯಂ ರಾಘವಂ ಪುನರಬ್ರವೀತ್৷৷2.112.9৷৷


ಸಃ ಭರತತ್ತು as for Bharata, ತ್ರಸ್ತಗಾತ್ರಃ limbs trembling, ಕೃತಾಞ್ಜಲಿಃ with palms folded (in reverence), ಸಜ್ಜಮಾನಯಾ got ready, ವಾಚಾ words, ಪುನಃ again, ರಾಘವಮ್ to Rama, ಇದಂ ವಾಕ್ಯಮ್ these word, ಅಬ್ರವೀತ್ said.

Before Bharata, with his limbs trembling and with palms folded (in reverence) was ready to depart, he said to Rama:
ರಾಜಧರ್ಮಮನುಪ್ರೇಕ್ಷ್ಯ ಕುಲಧರ್ಮಾನುಸನ್ತತಿಮ್.

ಕರ್ತುಮರ್ಹಸಿ ಕಾಕುತ್ಸ್ಥ ಮಮ ಮಾತುಶ್ಚ ಯಾಚನಾಮ್৷৷2.112.10৷৷


ಕಾಕುತ್ಸ್ಥ O Kakutstha!, ರಾಜಧರ್ಮಮ್ code of kings, ಕುಲಧರ್ಮಾನುಸನ್ತತಿಮ್ to abide by the traditional code of our family, ಅನುಪ್ರೇಕ್ಷ್ಯ having considered, ಮಮ my, ಮಾತುಶ್ಚ also mother's, ಯಾಚನಾಮ್ supplication, ಕರ್ತುಮ್ to do, ಅರ್ಹಸಿ behoves you.

O Rama, keeping in view the code of kings and tradition of our family, it behoves you to consider my supplication and that of my mother.
ರಕ್ಷಿತುಂ ಸುಮಹದ್ರಾಜ್ಯಮಹಮೇಕಸ್ತು ನೋತ್ಸಹೇ.

ಪೌರಜಾನಪದಾಂಶ್ಚಾಪಿ ರಕ್ತಾನ್ರಞ್ಜಯಿತುಂ ತಥಾ৷৷2.112.11৷৷


ಅಹಮ್ I, ಏಕಸ್ತು am alone, ಸುಮಹತ್ this vast, ರಾಜ್ಯಮ್ kingdom, ರಕ್ಷಿತುಮ್ to protect, ರಕ್ತಾನ್ loyal ಪೌರಜಾನಪದಾನ್ inhabitants of the town and villages, ರಞ್ಜಯಿತುಮ್ to please, ನೋತ್ಸಹೇ I do not venture.

I do not venture to protect this kingdom all by myself and keep the inhabitants of the towns and villages who are loyal to you pleased.
ಜ್ಞಾತಯಶ್ಚ ಹಿ ಯೋಧಾಶ್ಚ ಮಿತ್ರಾಣಿ ಸುಹೃದಶ್ಚ ನಃ.

ತ್ವಾಮೇವ ಪ್ರತಿವೀಕ್ಷನ್ತೇ ಪರ್ಜನ್ಯಮಿವ ಕರ್ಷಕಾಃ৷৷2.112.12৷৷


ನಃ our, ಜ್ಞಾತಯಶ್ಚ relatives, ಯೋಧಾಶ್ಚ warriors, ಮಿತ್ರಾಣಿ friends, ಸುಹೃದಶ್ಚ well-wishers, ತ್ವಾಮೇವ you alone, ಕರ್ಷಕಾಃ farmers, ಪರ್ಜನ್ಯಮಿವ like rain-bearing cloud, ಪ್ರತಿವೀಕ್ಷನ್ತೇ are longing.

All our relatives, warriors, friends and well-wishers long to see you like farmers yearn for the rain-cloud.
ಇದಂ ರಾಜ್ಯಂ ಮಹಾಪ್ರಾಜ್ಞ ಸ್ಥಾಪಯ ಪ್ರತಿಪದ್ಯ ಹಿ.

ಶಕ್ತಿಮಾನಸಿ ಕಾಕುತ್ಸ್ಥ! ಲೋಕಸ್ಯ ಪರಿಪಾಲನೇ৷৷2.112.13৷৷


ಮಹಾಪ್ರಾಜ್ಞ O sagacious one, ಇದಂ ರಾಜ್ಯಮ್ this kingdom, ಪ್ರತಿಪದ್ಯ after accepting, ಸ್ಥಾಪಯ establish, ಕಾಕುತ್ಸ್ಥ! Kakutstha, ಲೋಕಸ್ಯ this world's, ಪರಿಪಾಲನೇ in governance, ಶಕ್ತಿಮಾನ್ ಅಸಿ you are powerful.

O sagacious Rama, accept this kingdom and ensure its stability. You are powerful enough to govern this world. So accept this kingdom and restore its stability.
ಇತ್ಯುಕ್ತ್ವಾ ನ್ಯಪತದ್ಭ್ರಾತುಃ ಪಾದಯೋರ್ಭರತಸ್ತದಾ.

ಭೃಶಂ ಸಮ್ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥಯಾಮಾಸ ರಾಮಮೇವ ಪ್ರಿಯಂವದಃ৷৷2.112.14৷৷


ಭರತಃ Bharata, ತದಾ then, ಇತಿ thus, ಉಕ್ತ್ವಾ having said, ಭ್ರಾತುಃ brother's, ಪಾದಯೋಃ at the feet, ನ್ಯಪತತ್ fell, ಪ್ರಿಯಂವದಃ one who speaks sweetly, Bharata, ರಾಮಮ್ ಏವ Rama alone, ಭೃಶಮ್ profusely, ಸಮ್ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥಯಾಮಾಸ entreated him.

Having said this, Bharata, fell at the feet of his brother, and speaking sweetly, he profusely entreated Rama.
ತಮಙ್ಕೇ ಭರತಂ ಕೃತ್ವಾ ರಾಮೋ ವಚನಮಬ್ರವೀತ್.

ಶ್ಯಾಮಂ ನಲಿನಪತ್ರಾಕ್ಷಂ ಮತ್ತಹಂಸಸ್ವರಂ ಸ್ವಯಮ್৷৷2.112.15৷৷


ರಾಮಃ Rama, ಶ್ಯಾಮಮ್ dark complexioned, ನಲಿನಪತ್ರಾಕ್ಷಮ್ man with eyes like lotus petals, ಮತ್ತಹಂಸ ಸ್ವರಮ್ voice of an amorous swan, ತಂ ಭರತಮ್ to that Bharata, ಸ್ವಯಮ್ personally, ಅಙ್ಕೇ into his lap, ಕೃತ್ವಾ drawing, ವಚನಮ್ these words, ಅಬ್ರವೀತ್ said.

Rama took his in his arms Bharata who had a dark-blue complexion, whose eyes were like petals of lotus and whose voice was the voice of an amorous swan.
ಆಗತಾ ತ್ವಾಮಿಯಂ ಬುದ್ಧಿಸ್ಸ್ವಜಾ ವೈನಯಿಕೀ ಚ ಯಾ.

ಭೃಶಮುತ್ಸಹಸೇ ತಾತ ರಕ್ಷಿತುಂ ಪೃಥಿವೀಮಪಿ৷৷2.112.16৷৷


ತಾತಃ O child!, ಸ್ವಜಾ innate, ವೈನಯಿಕೀ ಚ though training (received from a preceptor), ಯಾ ಬುದ್ಧಿ: such wisdom, ತ್ವಾಮ್ you, ಆಗತಾ reached, ಪೃಥಿವೀಮ್ to the earth, ರಕ್ಷಿತುಮ್ ಅಪಿ even to protect, ಭೃಶಮ್ perfectly, ಉತ್ಸಹಸೇ you are capable.

O child, this wisdom of yours is both inborn and imbibed through training. With this,
you are perfectly capable of protecting the earth.
ಅಮಾತ್ಯೈಶ್ಚ ಸುಹೃದ್ಭಿಶ್ಚ ಬುದ್ಧಿಮದ್ಭಿಶ್ಚ ಮನ್ತ್ರಿಭಿಃ.

ಸರ್ವಕಾರ್ಯಾಣಿ ಸಮ್ಮನ್ತ್ರ್ಯ ಸುಮಹನ್ತ್ಯಪಿ ಕಾರಯ৷৷2.112.17৷৷


ಅಮಾತ್ಯೈಶ್ಚ with ministers, ಸುಹೃದ್ಭಿಶ್ಚ with friends, ಬುದ್ಧಿಮದ್ಭಿ: with the prudent, ಮನ್ತ್ರಿಭಿಶ್ಚ with the counsellors, ಸಮ್ಮನ್ತ್ರ್ಯ consulting, ಸುಮಹನ್ತ್ಯಪಿ however great they might appear, ಸರ್ವಕಾರ್ಯಾಣಿ all endeavours, ಕಾರಯ you may get them done.

After due consultation with ministers, friends, counsellors and prudent persons, accomplish all tasks, however formidable they may appear.
ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮೀಶ್ಚನ್ದ್ರಾದಪೇಯಾದ್ವಾ ಹಿಮವಾನ್ವಾ ಹಿಮಂ ತ್ಯಜೇತ್.

ಅತೀಯಾತ್ಸಾಗರೋ ವೇಲಾಂ ನ ಪ್ರತಿಜ್ಞಾಮಹಂ ಪಿತುಃ৷৷2.112.18৷৷


ಚನ್ದ್ರಾತ್ from the Moon, ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮೀಃ splendour, ಅಪೇಯಾದ್ವಾ might withdraw, ಹಿಮವಾನ್ Himavat mountain, ಹಿಮಮ್ snow, ತ್ಯಜೇದ್ವಾ might abandon, ಸಾಗರಃ ocean, ವೇಲಾಮ್ its shores, ಅತೀಯಾತ್ might overstep, ಅಹಮ್ I, ಪಿತುಃ to father, ಪ್ರತಿಜ್ಞಾಮ್ promise, ನ shall not forsake.

The Moon might lose its splendour, snow might abandon the Himavat mountain, the ocean might overstep its shores, but I shall not forsake the promise made to my father.
ಕಾಮಾದ್ವಾ ತಾತ! ಲೋಭಾದ್ವಾ ಮಾತ್ರಾತುಭ್ಯಮಿದಂ ಕೃತಮ್.

ನ ತನ್ಮನಸಿ ಕರ್ತವ್ಯಂ ವರ್ತಿತವ್ಯಂ ಚ ಮಾತೃವತ್৷৷2.112.19৷৷


ತಾತ! child, ಕಾಮಾದ್ವಾ either out of affection, ಲೋಭಾದ್ವಾ or out of covetousness, ಮಾತ್ರಾ by your mother, ತುಭ್ಯಮ್ for your sake, ಇದಮ್ this, ಕೃತಮ್ was done, ತತ್ that, ಮನಸಿ in your mind, ನ ಕರ್ತವ್ಯಮ್ should not be taken seriously, ಮಾತೃವತ್ as to one's own mother, ವರ್ತಿವ್ಯಮ್ you should conduct.

Dear brother, whether out of affection or greed, your mother has done this for your
sake. It should not agitate your mind. You should conduct yourself as one should towards one's mother.
ಏವಂ ಬ್ರುವಾಣಂ ಭರತಃ ಕೌಸಲ್ಯಾಸುತಮಬ್ರವೀತ್.

ತೇಜಸಾದಿತ್ಯಸಙ್ಕಾಶಂ ಪ್ರತಿಪಚ್ಚನ್ದ್ರದರ್ಶನಮ್৷৷2.112.20৷৷


ಭರತಃ Bharata, ಏವಮ್ in this way, ಬ್ರುವಾಣಮ್ speaking, ತೇಜಸಾ in brilliance, ಆದಿತ್ಯಸಙ್ಕಾಶಮ್ resembling the Sun, ಪ್ರತಿಪಚ್ಚನ್ದ್ರದರ್ಶನಮ್ appearance like the new Moon, ಕೌಸಲ್ಯಾಸುತಮ್ to the son of Kausalya, ಅಬ್ರವೀತ್ said.

On hearing this, Bharata replied to the son of Kausalya who looked like the Sun or the new Moon in brilliance:
ಆಧಿರೋಹಾರ್ಯ ಪಾದಾಭ್ಯಾಂ ಪಾದುಕೇ ಹೇಮಭೂಷಿತೇ.

ಏತೇಹಿ ಸರ್ವಲೋಕಸ್ಯ ಯೋಗಕ್ಷೇಮಂ ವಿಧಾಸ್ಯತಃ৷৷2.112.21৷৷


ಆರ್ಯ O noble one, ಹೇಮಭೂಷಿತೇ decorated with gold, ಪಾದುಕೇ sandals, ಪಾದಾಭ್ಯಾಮ್ from your feet, ಅಧಿರೋಹ get into, ಏತೇ these, ಸರ್ವಲೋಕಸ್ಯ of the entire world, ಯೋಗಕ್ಷೇಮಮ್ safety, ವಿಧಾಸ್ಯತಃ ಹಿ are going to secure.

O noble one, place your feet on these sandals decorated with gold. They will secure the prosperity and safety of the entire world.
ಸೋಧಿರುಹ್ಯ ನರವ್ಯಾಘ್ರಃ ಪಾದುಕೇ ಹ್ಯವರುಹ್ಯ ಚ.

ಪ್ರಾಯಚ್ಛತ್ಸುಮಹಾತೇಜಾ ಭರತಾಯ ಮಹಾತ್ಮನೇ৷৷2.112.22৷৷


ನರವ್ಯಾಘ್ರಃ the best of men, ಸುಮಹಾತೇಜಾಃ of great brilliance, ಸಃ that Rama, ಪಾದುಕೇ sandals, ಅಧಿರುಹ್ಯ putting on, ಅವರುಹ್ಯ ಚ putting off, ಮಹಾತ್ಮನೇ to the magnanimous, ಭರತಾಯ to Bharata, ಪ್ರಾಯಚ್ಛತ್ gave.

Rama, the best of men, one with great brilliance, put on and then put off the sandals and presented them to the magnanimous Bharata.
ಸ ಪಾದುಕೇ ಸಮ್ಪ್ರಣಮ್ಯ ರಾಮಂ ವಚನಮಬ್ರವೀತ್

ಚತುರ್ದಶ ಹಿ ವರ್ಷಾಣಿ ಜಟಾಚೀರಧರೋ ಹ್ಯಾಹಮ್৷৷2.112.23৷৷

ಫಲಮೂಲಾಶನೋ ವೀರ ಭವೇಯಂ ರಘುನನ್ದನ.

ತವಾಗಮನಮಾಕಾಙ್ಕ್ಷಾನ್ವಸನ್ವೈ ನಗರಾದ್ಬಹಿಃ৷৷2.112.24৷৷

ತವ ಪಾದುಕಯೋರ್ನ್ಯಸ್ತರಾಜ್ಯತನ್ತ್ರಃ ಪರನ್ತಪ.


ಸಃ that Bharata, ಪಾದುಕೇ to the sandals, ಸಮ್ಪ್ರಣಮ್ಯ bowing down, ರಾಮಮ್ to Rama, ವಚನಮ್ words, ಅಬ್ರವೀತ್ said, ಪರನ್ತಪ O tormentor of enemies, ವೀರ O hero, ರಘುನನ್ದನ Rama, ಅಹಮ್ I, ಚತುರ್ದಶ ವರ್ಷಾಣಿ fourteen years, ಜಟಾಚೀರಧರಃ wearing matted locks and bark garments, ಫಲಮೂಲಾಶನಃ living on fruits and roots, ತವ your, ಪಾದುಕಯೋಃ on your sandals, ನ್ಯಸ್ತರಾಜ್ಯತನ್ತ್ರಃ placing the responsibility of ruling this kingdom, ತವ your, ಆಗಮನಮ್ arrival, ಆಕಾಙ್ಕ್ಷನ್ looking forward, ನಗರಾತ್ from the city, ಬಹಿಃ outside, ವಸನ್ residing, ಭವೇಯಮ್ I shall remain.

Bharata bowed before the sandals and said to Rama, 'O tormentorr of enemies, O hero, wearing matted locks and bark garments, living on fruits and roots, placing the responsibility of ruling the kingdom on your sandals and looking forward to your arrival, I shall reside outside the city for fourteen years.'
ಚತುರ್ದಶೇ ತು ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣೇ ವರ್ಷೇಹನಿ ರಘೂತ್ತಮ৷৷2.112.25৷৷

ನ ದ್ರಕ್ಷ್ಯಾಮಿ ಯದಿ ತ್ವಾಂ ತು ಪ್ರವೇಕ್ಷ್ಯಾಮಿ ಹುತಾಶನಮ್.


ರಘೂತ್ತಮ O best of the Raghus, ಚತುರ್ದಶೇ when fourteen, ವರ್ಷೇ years, ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣೇ have passed, ಅಹನಿ
on that day, ತ್ವಾಮ್ you, ನ ದ್ರಕ್ಷ್ಯಾಮಿ ಯದಿ if I do not behold, ಹುತಾಶನಮ್ blazing fire, ಪ್ರವೇಕ್ಷ್ಯಾಮಿ I shall enter.

O best of the Raghus, if I do not behold you on the day after completion of fourteen years I shall enter the blazing fire.
ತಥೇತಿ ಚ ಪ್ರತಿಜ್ಞಾಯ ತಂ ಪರಿಷ್ವಜ್ಯ ಸಾದರಮ್৷৷2.112.26৷৷

ಶತ್ರುಘ್ನಂ ಚ ಪರಿಷ್ವಜ್ಯ ಭರತಂ ಚೇದಮಬ್ರವೀತ್.


ತಥೇತಿ be it so, ಪ್ರತಿಜ್ಞಾಯ having promised, ತಮ್ to that Bharata, ಸಾದರಮ್ affectionately, ಪರಿಷ್ವಜ್ಯ having embraced, ಶತ್ರುಘ್ನಮ್ Satrughna, ಪರಿಷ್ವಜ್ಯ having embraced, ಭರತಂ ಚ also Bharata, ಇದಮ್ these words, ಅಬ್ರವೀತ್ spoke.

'Be it so', assured Rama and then affectionately embracing both Bharata and Satrughna, said to Bharata:
ಮಾತರಂ ರಕ್ಷ ಕೈಕೇಯೀಂ ಮಾ ರೋಷಂ ಕುರು ತಾಂ ಪ್ರತಿ৷৷2.112.27৷৷

ಮಯಾ ಚ ಸೀತಯಾ ಚೈವ ಶಪ್ತೋಸಿ ರಘುಸತ್ತಮ.

ಇತ್ಯುಕ್ತ್ವಾಶ್ರುಪರೀತಾಕ್ಷೋ ಭ್ರಾತರಂ ವಿಸಸರ್ಜ ಹ৷৷2.112.28৷৷


ರಘುಸತ್ತಮ O chief of the Raghus, ಮಾತರಮ್ mother, ಕೈಕೇಯೀಮ್ Kaikeyi, ರಕ್ಷ protect, ತಾಂ ಪ್ರತಿ to her, ರೋಷಮ್ anger, ಮಾ ಕುರು do not show, ಮಯಾ ಚ by me, ಸೀತಯಾ ಚೈವ on Sita, ಶಪ್ತಃ ಅಸಿ are being sworn, ಇತಿ like this, ಉಕ್ತ್ವಾ having said, ಅಶ್ರುಪರೀತಾಕ್ಷಃ with the eyes filled with tears, ಭ್ರಾತರಮ್ brother, ವಿಸಸರ್ಜ ಹ took leave of.

Look after your mother, O chief of the Raghus! Do not be angry with her. Swear in my name and in the name of Sita. So saying, eyes filled with tears, Rama took leave of his brother.
ಸ ಪಾದುಕೇ ತೇ ಭರತಃ ಪ್ರತಾಪವಾನ್ ಸ್ವಲಙ್ಕೃತೇ ಸಮ್ಪರಿಪೂಜ್ಯ ಧರ್ಮವಿತ್.

ಪ್ರದಕ್ಷಿಣಂ ಚೈವ ಚಕಾರ ರಾಘವಮ್ ಚಕಾರ ತೇ ಚೋತ್ತಮನಾಗಮೂರ್ಧನಿ৷৷2.112.29৷৷


ಪ್ರತಾಪವಾನ್ the valiant, ಧರ್ಮವಿತ್ knower of righteousness, ಸಃ ಭರತಃ that Bharata, ಸ್ವಲಙ್ಕೃತೇ well-decorated, ತೇ those, ಪಾದುಕೇ sandals, ಸಮ್ಪರಿಪೂಜ್ಯ having worshipped, ರಾಘವಮ್ to Rama, ಪ್ರದಕ್ಷಿಣಮ್ circumambulation, ಚಕಾರ performed, ತೇ those sandals, ಉತ್ತಮನಾಗಮೂರ್ಧನಿ atop the best of elephants, ಚಕಾರ made.

The valiant and righteous Bharata, worshipped the well-decorated sandals and after circumambulating Rama reverentially placed them atop the best of elephants.
ಅಥಾನುಪೂರ್ವ್ಯಾತ್ಪ್ರತಿನನ್ದ್ಯ ತಂ ಜನಂ ಗುರೂಂಶ್ಚ ಮನ್ತ್ರಿಪ್ರಕೃತೀಸ್ತಥಾನುಜೌ.

ವ್ಯಸರ್ಜಯದ್ರಾಘವವಂಶವರ್ಧನಸ್ಥಿರಃ ಸ್ವಧರ್ಮೇ ಹಿಮವಾನಿವಾಚಲಃ৷৷2.112.30৷৷


ಅಥ thereafter, ರಾಘವವಂಶವರ್ಧನಃ one who enhances the progeny of the Raghu dynasty, ಸ್ವಧರ್ಮೇ in his code of righteousness, ಹಿಮವಾನ್ Himavat, ಅಚಲಃ ಇವ like the unshakable mountain, ಸ್ಥಿರಃ firm, ತಂ ಜನಮ್ those people, ಅನುಪೂರ್ವ್ಯಾ in accordance with their rank, ಪ್ರತಿನನ್ದ್ಯ having greeted, ಗುರೂಂಶ್ಚ to preceptors, ಮನ್ತ್ರಿಪ್ರಕೃತೀಃ ministers and subjects, ತಥಾ like that, ಅನುಜೌ wishing his younger brothers Bharata and Satrughna, ವ್ಯಸರ್ಜಯತ್ sent them forth.

Inflexibly fixed in his own code of righteouness, like the Himavat mountain, Rama, the enhancer of the progeny of the Raghu dynasty, paid respect due to the preceptors, ministers and subjects in accordance with their rank, blessed his younger brothers, Bharata and Satrughna and sent them forth.
ತಂ ಮಾತರೋ ಬಾಷ್ಪಗೃಹೀತಕಣ್ಠ್ಯೋ ದುಃಖೇನ ನಾಮನ್ತ್ರಯಿತುಂ ಹಿ ಶೇಕುಃ.

ಸ ತ್ವೇವ ಮಾತ್ರೃಭಿವಾದ್ಯ ಸರ್ವಾರುದನ್ಕುಟೀಂ ಸ್ವಾಂ ಪ್ರವಿವೇಶ ರಾಘವಃ৷৷2.112.31৷৷


ದುಃಖೇನ in their grief, ಬಾಷ್ಪಗೃಹೀತಕಣ್ಠ್ಯ throats choked with sobs, ಮಾತರಃ mothers, ತಮ್ to him, ಅಮನ್ತ್ರಯಿತುಂ to bid farewell, ನ ಶೇಕುರ್ಹಿ were not able, ಸಃ that, ರಾಘವಃ ಏವ Rama himself, ಸರ್ವಾಃ all, ಮಾತolonsymbol mothers, ಅಭಿವಾದ್ಯ paying obeisance, ರುದನ್ weeping, ಸ್ವಾಮ್ his, ಕುಟೀಂ hut, ಪ್ರವಿವೇಶ entered.

His mothers were unable to bid him farewell their throats were choked with tears of sorrow but Rama himself paid obeisance to them and entered his hut in tears.
ಇತ್ಯಾರ್ಷೇ ಶ್ರೀಮದ್ರಾಮಾಯಣೇ ವಾಲ್ಮೀಕೀಯ ಆದಿಕಾವ್ಯೇ ಅಯೋಧ್ಯಾಕಾಣ್ಡೇ ದ್ವಾದಶೋತ್ತರಶತತಮಸ್ಸರ್ಗಃ৷৷
Thus ends the hundredtwelfth sarga in Ayodhyakanda of the holy Ramayana, the first epic composed by sage Valmiki.
