ವೇದಪಾರಗಾ: well-versed in the Vedas, ತೇ those, ಬ್ರಾಮ್ಹಣಾ: brahmins, ತಾಂ ರಜನೀಮ್ that night, ಉಷ್ಯ after staying, ಸಹರಾಜಪುರೋಹಿತಾ: along with royal priests, ಉಪಸ್ಥಾನಮ್ to the pavilion (for consecration ceremony), ಉಪತಸ್ಥು: assembled.
The brahmins well-versed in the Vedas stayed waiting all night and assembled at the pavilion (for the consecration ceremony) along with royal priests.
ಅಮಾತ್ಯಾ ಬಲಮುಖ್ಯಾಶ್ಚ ಮುಖ್ಯಾ ಯೇ ನಿಗಮಸ್ಯ ಚ.

For the consecration of the scion of the Raghu race (Rama), ministers, army chiefs and chiefs of merchants' associations assembled, brimming with joy.

ವಿಮಲೇ bright, ಸೂರ್ಯೇ Sun, ಉದಿತೇ having arisen, ಅಹನಿ during day , ಪುಷ್ಯೇ ಚ when Pushya star, ಅಭ್ಯಾಗತೇ was ascendent, ರಾಮಸ್ಯ Rama's, ಜನ್ಮ ಸ್ಥಿತೇ constellation at the time of birth,
ಕರ್ಕಟಕಲಗ್ನೇ ascension of karkataka lagna, ಪ್ರಾಪ್ತೇ had come, ರಾಮಸ್ಯ Rama's, ಅಭಿಷೇಕಾಯ for the consecration, ದ್ವಿಜೇನ್ದ್ರೈ: by the best of brahmins, ಉಪಕಲ್ಪಿತಮ್ was decided.
The best of brahmins had decided to perform the consecration ceremony after the bright Sun appeared in the sky when the Pushya star approached the karkataka lagna, which was the constellation at the time of Rama's birth.

ಪುಣ್ಯಾತ್ from sacred, ಗಙ್ಗಾಯಮುನಯೋ: ಸಙ್ಗಮಾತ್ from the confluence of Ganga and Yamuna, ಪುಣ್ಯಾ: holy, ಅನ್ಯಾ: other, ಯಾ:ಸರಿತ: streams, ಹ್ರದಾ: ponds, ಕೂಪಾ: wells, ಸರಾಂಸಿ ಚ lakes as well, ಆಹೃತಮ್ brought, ಜಲಮ್ water, ಪ್ರಾಗ್ವಾಹಾ: flowing eastwards, ಊರ್ಧ್ವವಾಹಾ: flowing upwards, ತಿರ್ಯಗ್ವಾಹಾ: flowing zigzag, ಸಮಾಹಿತಾ: joined together, ತಾಭ್ಯ: ಚ from them also, ಸರ್ವಶ: from all directions, ಸಮುದ್ರೇಭ್ಯ: from all seas, ಆಹೃತಮ್ has been collected, ತೋಯಮ್ water.
Water had been fetched from the sacred confluence of Ganga and Yamuna, from other holy streams, wells, ponds and lakes, from rivers flowing eastward, westward, and zigzag, from rivers from all directions joined together. And from all the seas.

ಕ್ಷೌದ್ರಮ್ honey, ದಧಿ curds, ಘೃತಮ್ ghee, ಲಾಜಾ: puffed grain, ದರ್ಭಾ: darbha grass, ಸುಮನಸ: flowers, ಪಯ: milk, ಶುಭಾಚಾರಾ: well-mannered, ಸರ್ವಾಭರಣಭೂಷಿತಾ: adorned with all types of ornaments, ವೇಶ್ಯಾ: ಚ ಏವ courtesans as well.
Honey, curd, ghee, puffed grain, darbha grass, flowers and milk were arranged. Well-mannered courtesans adorned with all kinds of ornaments (stood in position).

An excellent fan of yak's tail with a staff of gold studded with gems looking like diffused moon-beams was kept ready.

A bull and a horse both pale white and a majestic elephant in rut worthy of royal ride stood waiting.
ಅಷ್ಟೌ ಚ ಕನ್ಯಾ ಮಾಙ್ಗಲ್ಯಾ ಸ್ಸರ್ವಾಭರಣಭೂಷಿತಾಃ৷৷2.15.12৷৷

Eight auspicious maidens adorned with all types of ornaments, all sorts of musical instruments, panegyrists and others (were in waiting).

ಇಕ್ಷ್ವಾಕೂಣಾಮ್ of the descendants of the Ikshvakus, ರಾಜ್ಯೇ in the kingdom, ಅಭಿಷೇಚನಮ್ consecration, ಯಥಾ as, ಸಂಭ್ರಿಯೇತ್ might have been arranged, ತಥಾ ಜಾತೀಯಮ್ pertaining to that race, ರಾಜಪುತ್ರಾಭಿಷೇಚನಮ್ for the consecration of the prince, ಆದಾಯ having brought, ರಾಜವಚನಾತ್ in accordance with the order of the king, ತತ್ರ there, ಸಮವೇತಾ: having assembled, ತೇ they, ಮಹೀಪತಿಮ್ to the king, ಅಪಶ್ಯನ್ತ: not beholding, ನ: about us, ಕ: ನು who indeed, ರಾಜ್ಞ: to the king, ಪ್ರತಿವೇದಯೇತ್ inform, ಅಬ್ರುವನ್ said, ರಾಜಾನಮ್ to the king, ನ ಚ ಪಶ್ಯಾಮ: (we) do not see, ದಿವಾಕರ: ಚ sun also, ಉದಿತ: has risen, ಧೀಮತ: sagacious, ರಾಮಸ್ಯ Rama's, ಯೌವರಾಜ್ಯಾಭಿಷೇಕ: ಚ consecration as prince regent, ಸಜ್ಜ: is ready.
Just as articles necessary for the consecration of the descendants of the Ikshvakus, are customarily arranged in the kingdom, in the same way things were arranged for the coronation of the prince belonging to that race. All those who had assembled there in response to the order of the king could not see him and so they said to themselves 'Who will inform the king of our arrival. Everything is kept ready for consecration of the sagacious Rama as prince regent. The Sun has risen. But we do not find the king'.

ಅಬ್ರವೀತ್ತಾನಿದಂ ಸರ್ವಾನ್ಸುಮನ್ತ್ರೋ ರಾಜಸತ್ಕೃತಃ.

ತೇಷು while they, ಇತಿ thus, ಬ್ರುವಾಣೇಷು were speaking, ರಾಜಸತ್ಕೃತ: the king's confidant, ಸುಮನ್ತ್ರ: Sumantra, ತಾನ್ them, ಸರ್ವಾನ್ all, ಸಾರ್ವಭೌಮಾನ್ sovereigns, ಮಹೀಪತೀನ್ kings, ಇದಮ್ this word, ಅಬ್ರವೀತ್ said.
While the sovereign monarchs who hailed from different parts of the earth were thus talking Sumantra the king's confidant said:
ರಾಮಂ ರಾಜ್ಞೋ ನಿಯೋಗೇನ ತ್ವರಯಾ ಪ್ರಸ್ಥಿತೋಸ್ಮ್ಯಹಮ್৷৷2.15.17৷৷
ಪೂಜ್ಯಾ ರಾಜ್ಞೋ ಭವನ್ತಸ್ತು ರಾಮಸ್ಯ ಚ ವಿಶೇಷತಃ.
ಪೂಜ್ಯಾ ರಾಜ್ಞೋ ಭವನ್ತಸ್ತು ರಾಮಸ್ಯ ಚ ವಿಶೇಷತಃ.
ಅಹಮ್ I, ರಾಜ್ಞ: king's, ನಿಯೋಗೇನ by command, ರಾಮಮ್ Rama, ತ್ವರಯಾ quickly, ಪ್ರಸ್ಥಿತ: ಅಸ್ಮಿ I am departing, ಭವನ್ತ: ತು as for all of you, ರಾಜ್ಞ: to the king, ಪೂಜ್ಯಾ: venerable, ವಿಶೇಷತ: especially, ರಾಮಸ್ಯ ಚ for Rama also.
In obedience to the king's command I am hurrying for Rama. All of you are honourable to king Dasaratha, especially to Rama.

ರಾಜ್ಞಃ ಸಂಪ್ರತಿ ಬುದ್ಧಸ್ಯ ಯಚ್ಚಾಗಮನಕಾರಣಮ್.

ಅಯಮ್ ಅಹಮ್ such I am, ಆಯುಷ್ಮತಾಮ್ long-lived, ವಚನಾತ್ by your words, ಸಂಪ್ರತಿ ಬುದ್ಧಸ್ಯ to him now awake, ರಾಜ್ಞ: king's, ಸುಖಮ್ welfare, ಆಗಮನಕಾರಣಂ the reason for his coming, ಪೃಚ್ಛಾಮಿ I shall ask.
On your behalf I shall enquire from the king who is awake now about his welfare and the reason for calling me here.

ಪುರಾಣವಿತ್ one who is well-versed in history and tradition, ಸುಮನ್ತ್ರ: Sumantra, ಇತಿ thus, ಉಕ್ತ್ವಾ having spoken, ಅನ್ತ:ಪುರದ್ವಾರಮ್ entrance to the inner apartment, ಆಜಗಾಮ approached, ಸದಾ always, ಸಕ್ತಮ್ remains closed, ತತ್ that, ವೇಶ್ಮ palace, ಪ್ರವಿವೇಶ ಹ entered.
Having said so, Sumantra who was versed in history and tradition approached the inner apartment which always remains closed.

Entering the king's inner apartment, he began extoling the virtues of the royal dynasty, and stood there as he approached the king's bed-chamber.

Having approached the king's bed-chamber Sumatra stood behind the screen, singing his glory and seeking the blessings (of God) on this son of Raghus dynasty.

Dasaratha waking up saw the charioteer and expert counsellor Sumantra extoling him, and said:

ಕಿಮಿದಂ ಕಾರಣಂ ಯೇನ ಮಮಾಜ್ಞಾ ಪ್ರತಿಹನ್ಯತೇ.

I did not sleep (last night). Bring Rama here at once, said king Dasaratha to the charioteer again.

At these words of the king, he offered his salutations by bowing his head and left the king's apartment, reflecting on the great happy event.

The charioteer (Sumantra) beheld Rama's palace closed with two heavy-panelled doors. Adorned with hundreds of galleries, it had a peak mounted with golden idols. The arches were studded with different gems and corals. Bright like dense autumnal cloud, it shone like the cave of mount Meru. It was ornamented with excellent garlands and precious diamonds. Pearls were strewn around. Decorated with sandal and aloe wood, it emitted, like the peak of mount Dardura, captivating fragrance৷৷ Sarasas and peacocks were singing sweetly. The palace was full of skilfully carved images of deer and other embellishments. It attracted the minds and the eyes of all living beings with brilliant splendour. Resplendent like the Sun and the Moon, it looked like the abode of Kubera and a reflected image of the abode of Mahendra. It was crowded with birds of various kinds. In height it was equal to the peak of mount Meru. Villagers thronged the palace with gifts, eagerly waiting with folded hands to see the spectacle of Rama's coronation. Lofty, it looked like a vast cloud. Well-decked and filled with various gems, it was crowded with hunchbacks and kiratas (hunters) too.

ಸ: that, ಸಾರಥಿ: charioteer, ರಾಮಗೃಹಾಭಿಪಾತಿನಾ going towards the palace of Rama, ವರೂಥಿನಾ (covered) with a wooden fender (as a defence against collision), ವಾಜಿಯುಕ್ತೇನ harnessed with horses, ರಥೇನ by a chariot, ನರಾಕುಲಂ (ಸಮಾಕುಲಮ್) crowded with people, ರಾಜಕುಲಮ್ royal palace, ವಿರಾಜಯನ್ appearing, ಸರ್ವಸ್ಯ all, ಪುರಸ್ಯ city's, ಮನಾಂಸಿ minds, ಹರ್ಷಯನ್ delighting.
Mounted on a chariot, attached with a fender and driven by horses, the charioteer
advanced towards the royal palace of Rama delighting the minds of the people of the city.

Having reached the palace abounding in deer and peacocks which resembled the magnificent and opulent abode of Indra, the charioteer was thrilled at the all-pervading beauty of the place befitting Rama.

Having entered the well-decorated palace which was (lofty) like Kailasa, he crossed the courtyards comparable to the abode of the celestials, passed through the many bosom friends of Rama and entered the private apartment.

There he heard the happy words spoken by people about the enthronement of prince Rama and his future well-being.

ಸುಮನ್ತ್ರ: Sumantra, ಮಹೇನ್ದ್ರಸದ್ಮಪ್ರತಿಮಮ್ resembling the abode of Indra, ಮೃಗಪಕ್ಷಿಜುಷ್ಟಮ್ filled with animals and birds, ಮೇರೋ: mount Meru's, ಉಚ್ಚಂ high, ಶೃಙ್ಗಮ್ ಇವ like a summit, ಪ್ರಭಯಾ with splendour, ವಿಭ್ರಜಮಾನಮ್ shining, ರಮ್ಯಮ್ beautiful, ರಾಮಸ್ಯ ವೇಶ್ಮ Rama's palace, ದದರ್ಶ beheld.
Sumantra beheld Rama's palace which resembled the high summit of mount Meru shining with splendour. Filled with animals and birds, if looked like the abode of Indra.

ಉಪಸ್ಥಿತೈ: by men present, ಅಞ್ಜಲಿ ಕಾರಕೈಶ್ಚ (ಅಞ್ಜಲಿ ಕಾರಿಭಿಶ್ಚ) paying obeisance with folded palms, ಸೋಪಾಯನೈ: (with their hands ) full of gifts, ವಿಮುಕ್ತಯಾನೈ: having left their chariots, ಕೋಟ್ಯಾ in crores of, ಪರಾರ್ಧೈಶ್ಚ billions, ಜಾನಪದೈ: villagers, ಜನೈಶ್ಚ citizens from towns, ಸಮಾಕುಲಂ thronged, ದ್ವಾರಪಥಂ gateway, ದದರ್ಶ beheld.
He saw villagers and others in crores and parardhas, leaving their chariots and thronging the gateway, (some) paying obeisance with folded palms and (some) carrying gifts in their hands.

ಪ್ರಭಿನ್ನಮತ್ಯಙ್ಕುಶಮತ್ಯಸಹ್ಯಮ್.

ತತ: thereafter, ಮಹಾಮೇಘಮಹೀಧರಾಭಮ್ resembling a great cloud or a vast mountain, ಪ್ರಭಿನ್ನಮ್ ichor flowing from its temples, ಅತ್ಯಙ್ಕುಶಮ್ without caring for the goad, ಅಸಹ್ಯಮ್ intolerant, ಉದಗ್ರಕಾಯಮ್ having a huge body, ರಾಮೌಪವಾಹ್ಯಮ್ fit to be mounted by Rama, ರುಚಿರಮ್ beautiful, ಶತ್ರೃಞ್ಜಯಮ್ by name Satrunjaya, ನಾಗಮ್ elephant, ದದರ್ಶ beheld.
He beheld a beautiful elephant named Satrunjaya with a huge body on which Rama was to mount. It looked like a vast mountain or a huge cloud. With ichor flowing from his temples and without caring for the goad, the elephant was intolerant.
ಸ್ವಲಙ್ಕೃತಾನ್ ಸಾಶ್ವರಥಾನ್ ಸಕುಞ್ಜರಾ-
ನಮಾತ್ಯ ಮುಖ್ಯಾಂಶ್ಚ ದದರ್ಶ ವಲ್ಲಭಾನ್.
ವ್ಯಪೋಹ್ಯ ಸೂತಸ್ಸಹಿತಾನ್ ಸಮನ್ತತಃ

ಸ್ವಲಂಙ್ಕೃತಾನ್ well-adorned, ಸಾಶ್ವರಥಾನ್ with horses and chariots, ಸಕುಞ್ಜರಾನ್ with elephants, ವಲ್ಲಭಾನ್ dear to the king, ಅಮಾತ್ಯಮುಖ್ಯಾಂಶ್ಚ important ministers also, ದದರ್ಶ saw, ಸೂತ: charioteer, ಸಮನ್ತತ: on all sides, ಸಹಿತಾನ್ assembled, ವ್ಯಪೋಹ್ಯ getting out of the way, ಸಮೃದ್ಧಮ್ glorious, ಅನ್ತ:ಪುರಮ್ private apartment, ಆವಿವೇಶ entered.
Important ministers who were dear to the king and well-adorned arrived there on their horses, chariots and elephants. Sumantra finding his way through the crowd of the people who assembled on all sides, entered the glorious private apartment of Rama.

ತತ: afterwards, ಸಾರಥಿ: charioteer, ಅದ್ರಿಕೂಟಾಚಲಮೇಘಸನ್ನಿಭಮ್ similar to motionless cloud over a mountain peak, ಮಹಾವಿಮಾನೋಪಮವೇಶ್ಮಸಂಯುತಮ್ surrounded by splendid rooms, ಮಕರ: crocodile, prevented, ಪ್ರವಿವೇಶ entered.
The palace looked like a mountain peak covered by a cloud and a great vimana surrounded by splendid apartments. The charioteer entered the palace unobstructed like a crocodile entering the ocean bristling with many gems.
