[Rama honours Suyajna with valuable gifts--distributes his wealth to dependents, brahmins and to sageTrijata.]

ತತಶ್ಶಾಸನ ಮಾಜ್ಞಾಯ ಭ್ರಾತು ಶ್ಶುಭತರಂ ಪ್ರಿಯಮ್.

ಗತ್ವಾ ಸ ಪ್ರವಿವೇಶಾಶು ಸುಯಜ್ಞಸ್ಯ ನಿವೇಶನಮ್৷৷2.32.1৷৷


ತತಃ thereafter, ಸಃ he, ಭ್ರಾತುಃ brother's, ಶುಭತರಮ್ very much auspicious, ಪ್ರಿಯಮ್ pleasing, ಶಾಸನಮ್ command, ಆಜ್ಞಾಯ having understood, ಆಶು immediately, ಗತ್ವಾ having gone, ಸುಯಜ್ಞಸ್ಯ Suyajna's, ನಿವೇಶನಮ್ house, ಪ್ರವಿವೇಶ entered.

Lakshmana having understood the very auspicious and welcome order (of Rama) immediately proceeded to the house of Suyajna.
ತಂ ವಿಪ್ರಮಗ್ನ್ಯಗಾರಸ್ಥಂ ವನ್ದಿತ್ವಾ ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಣೋಬ್ರವೀತ್.

ಸಖೇಭ್ಯಾಗಚ್ಛ ಪಶ್ಯ ತ್ವಂ ವೇಶ್ಮ ದುಷ್ಕರಕಾರಿಣಃ৷৷2.32.2৷৷


ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಣಃ Lakshmana, ಅಗ್ನ್ಯಗಾರಸ್ಥಮ್ staying in the fire-sanctuary, ತಂ ವಿಪ್ರಮ್ that brahmin, ವನ್ದಿತ್ವಾ after saluting, ಅಬ್ರವೀತ್ said, ಸಖೇ O friend!, ಅಭ್ಯಾಗಚ್ಛ come, ತ್ವಮ್ you, ದುಷ್ಕರಕಾರಿಣಃ accomplisher of all difficult tasks , ವೇಶ್ಮ palace of Rama, ಪಶ್ಯ behold.

Lakshmana paid homage to him who was in the fire-sanctuary, and said O friend, come and see the palace of Rama who is the accomplisher of all difficult tasks.
ತತಸ್ಸನ್ಧ್ಯಾಮುಪಾಸ್ಯಾಶು ಗತ್ವಾ ಸೌಮಿತ್ರಿಣಾ ಸಹ.

ಜುಷ್ಟಂ ತತ್ಪ್ರಾವಿಶಲ್ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮ್ಯಾ ರಮ್ಯಂ ರಾಮನಿವೇಶನಮ್৷৷2.32.3৷৷


ತತಃ thereafter, ಸನ್ಧ್ಯಾಮ್ the twilight prayers, ಉಪಾಸ್ಯ having performed, ಸೌಮಿತ್ರಿಣಾ ಸಹ along with Lakshmana, ಆಶು swiftly, ಗತ್ವಾ went, ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮ್ಯಾ with prosperity, ಜುಷ್ಟಮ್ endowed with, ರಮ್ಯಮ್ beautiful, ತತ್ that, ರಾಮನಿವೇಶನಮ್ Rama's palace, ಪ್ರಾವಿಶತ್ he entered.

After performing the twilight prayers, Suyajna along with Lakshmana went straight away and entered the beautiful and prosperous palace of Rama.
ತಮಾಗತಂ ವೇದವಿದಂ ಪ್ರಾಞ್ಜಲಿಸ್ಸೀತಯಾ ಸಹ.

ಸುಯಜ್ಞಮಭಿಚಕ್ರಾಮ ರಾಘವೋಗ್ನಿಮಿವಾರ್ಚಿತಮ್৷৷2.32.4৷৷


ರಾಘವಃ Rama, ಪ್ರಾಞ್ಜಲಿಃ folded hands, ಆಗತಮ್ who has come, ವೇದವಿದಮ್ versed in Vedas, ತಂ ಸುಯಜ್ಞಮ್ that Suyajna, ಅರ್ಚಿತಮ್ worshipped, ಅಗ್ನಿಮ್ ಇವ like fire, ಸೀತಯಾ ಸಹ with Sita, ಅಭಿಚಕ್ರಾಮ circumambulated.

On the arrival of sage Suyajna well-versed in the Vedas, both Rama and Sita offered obeisance to him as to fire-god and circumambulated him.
ಜಾತರೂಪಮಯೈರ್ಮುಖ್ಯೈರಙ್ಗದೈಃ ಕುಣ್ಡಲೈಃ ಶುಭೈಃ.

ಸಹೇಮಸೂತ್ರೈರ್ಮಣಿಭಿಃ ಕೇಯೂರೈರ್ವಲಯೈರಪಿ৷৷2.32.5৷৷

ಅನ್ಯೈಶ್ಚ ರತ್ನೈರ್ಬಹುಭಿಃ ಕಾಕುತ್ಸ್ಥಃ ಪ್ರತ್ಯಪೂಜಯತ್.

ಸುಯಜ್ಞಂ ಸ ತದೋವಾಚ ರಾಮಸ್ಸೀತಾ ಪ್ರಚೋದಿತಃ৷৷2.32.6৷৷


ಕಾಕುತ್ಸ್ಥ: scion of the Kakutstha dynasty, ಜಾತರೂಪಮಯೈಃ by golden, ಮುಖ್ಯೈಃ with excellent, ಅಙ್ಗದೈಃ anklets, ಶುಭೈಃ auspicious, ಕುಣ್ಡಲೈಃ with ear-rings, ಸಹೇಮಸೂತ್ರೈಃ with golden strings, ಮಣಿಭಿಃ gems, ಕೇಯೂರೈಃ bracelets, ವಲಯೈರಪಿ armlets also, ಅನ್ಯೈಃ others, ಬಹುಭಿಃ many, ರತ್ನೈಶ್ಚ jewels, ಸುಯಜ್ಞಮ್ to Suyajna, ಪ್ರತ್ಯಪೂಜಯತ್ worshipped, ತದಾ then, ಸಃ ರಾಮಃ that Rama, ಸೀತಾಪ್ರಚೋದಿತಃ urged by Sita, ಉವಾಚ said.

Rama, scion of the Kakutstha dynasty, worshipped Suyajna with a collection of golden ornaments such as ear-rings, anklets, armlets, bracelets and many other ornaments of precious stones. Then urged by Sita, Rama said to him:
ಹಾರಂ ಚ ಹೇಮಸೂತ್ರಂ ಚ ಭಾರ್ಯಾಯೈ ಸೌಮ್ಯ ಹಾರಯ.

ರಶನಾಂ ಚಾಧುನಾ ಸೀತಾ ದಾತುಮಿಚ್ಛತಿ ತೇ ಸಖೇ!৷৷2.32.7৷৷


ಸೌಮ್ಯ O handsome, ಸಖೇ friend, ಸೀತಾ Sita, ಅಧುನಾ at this time, ಹಾರಂ ಚ necklace also, ಹೇಮಸೂತ್ರಂ ಚ golden chain, ರಶನಾಂ ಚ also girdle, ತೇ to you, ದಾತುಮ್ to give, ಇಚ್ಛತಿ wishes, ಭಾರ್ಯಾಯೈ to your wife, ಹಾರಯ take them.

O handsome friend! now Sita intends to give away to your wife her necklace, her golden chain and girdle. Could you accept them?
ಅಙ್ಗದಾನಿ ವಿಚಿತ್ರಾಣಿ ಕೇಯೂರಾಣಿ ಶುಭಾನಿ ಚ.

ಪ್ರಯಚ್ಛತಿ ಸಖೇ! ತುಭ್ಯಂ ಭಾರ್ಯಾಯೈ ಗಚ್ಛತೀ ವನಮ್৷৷2.32.8৷৷


ಸಖೇ O friend, ವನಮ್ to the forest, ಗಚ್ಛತೀ departing Sita, ಭಾರ್ಯಾಯೈಃ to your wife, ಅಙ್ಗದಾನಿ anklets, ವಿಚಿತ್ರಾಣಿ wonderful, ಶುಭಾನಿ auspicious, ಕೇಯುರಾಣಿ ಚ bracelets, ತುಭ್ಯಮ್ to you, ಪ್ರಯಚ್ಛತಿ is offering.

Sita is departing for the forest and offers your wife her armlets, wonderful and elegant bracelets.
ಪರ್ಯಙ್ಕಮಗ್ಯ್ರಾಸ್ತರಣಂ ನಾನಾರತ್ನವಿಭೂಷಿತಮ್.

ತಮಪೀಚ್ಛತಿ ವೈದೇಹೀ ಪ್ರತಿಷ್ಠಾಪಯಿತುಂ ತ್ವಯಿ৷৷2.32.9৷৷


ವೈದೇಹೀ Sita, ಅಗ್ಯ್ರಾಸ್ತರಣಮ್ exquisite bed cover, ನಾನಾರತ್ನವಿಭೂಷಿತಮ್ encrusted with various gems, ತಂ ಪರ್ಯಙ್ಕಮ್ that couch, ಅಪಿ also, ತ್ವಯಿ in you, ಪ್ರತಿಷ್ಠಾಪಯಿತುಮ್ to place (in your house), ಇಚ್ಛತಿ wishes.

Sita also wishes to give away a couch with an exquisite cover, encrusted with a variety of precious stones.
ನಾಗ ಶ್ಶತ್ರುಞ್ಜಯೋ ನಾಮ ಮಾತುಲೋಯಂ ದದೌ ಮಮ.

ತಂ ತೇ ಗಜಸಹಸ್ರೇಣ ದದಾಮಿ ದ್ವಿಜಸತ್ತಮ!৷৷2.32.10৷৷


ದ್ವಿಜಸತ್ತಮ! O best among brahmins, ಅಯಮ್ this one, ಶತ್ರುಞ್ಜಯೋ ನಾಮ by name Satrunjaya, ನಾಗಃ an elephant, ಮಾತುಲಃ my maternal uncle, ಮಮ to me, ದದೌ gave, ತಮ್ to that (elephant), ಗಜಸಹಸ್ರೇಣ along with a thousand elephants, ತೇ to you, ದದಾಮಿ I am giving.

I am gifting you, O best among brahmins! a thousand elephants including Satrunjaya an elephant my maternal uncle had given me.
ಇತ್ಯುಕ್ತಸ್ಸ ಹಿ ರಾಮೇಣ ಸುಯಜ್ಞಃ ಪ್ರತಿಗೃಹೃಯತತ್.

ರಾಮಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಣಸೀತಾನಾಂ ಪ್ರಯುಯೋಜಾಶಿಷ ಶ್ಶುಭಾಃ৷৷2.32.11৷৷


ರಾಮೇಣ by Rama, ಇತಿ thus, ಉಕ್ತಃ spoken, ಸಃ ಸುಯಜ್ಞಃ that Suyajna, ತತ್ that, ಪ್ರತಿಗೃಹ್ಯ having accepted, ರಾಮಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಣಸೀತಾನಾಮ್ to Rama, Lakshmana and Sita, ಶುಭಾಃ auspicious, ಆಶಿಷಃ blessings, ಪ್ರಯುಯೋಜ bestowed.

Thus addressed by Rama, Suyajna accepted the gifts and conferred auspicious blessings on Rama, Lakshmana and Sita.
ಅಥ ಭ್ರಾತರಮವ್ಯಗ್ರಂ ಪ್ರಿಯಂ ರಾಮಃ ಪ್ರಿಯಂವದಃ.

ಸೌಮಿತ್ರಿಂ ತಮುವಾಚೇದಂ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮೇವ ತ್ರಿದಶೇಶ್ವರಮ್৷৷2.32.12৷৷


ಅಥ thereafter, ಪ್ರಿಯಂವದ: sweet-tongued, ರಾಮಃ Rama, ಪ್ರಿಯಮ್ to his beloved, ಭ್ರಾತರಮ್ to his brother, ತಂ ಸೌಮಿತ್ರಿಮ್ to Lakshmana, ಬ್ರಹ್ಮಾ creator, ತ್ರಿದಶೇಶ್ವರಮ್ ಇವ like lord of heaven, Indra, ಅವ್ಯಗ್ರಮ್ without haste, ಇದಮ್ this word, ಉವಾಚ said.

Sweet-tongued Rama calmly said to his brother (Lakshmana) like Brahma
addressing Indra:
ಅಗಸ್ತ್ಯಂ ಕೌಶಿಕಂ ಚೈವ ತಾವುಭೌ ಬ್ರಾಹ್ಮಣೋತ್ತಮೌ.

ಅರ್ಚಯಾಹೂಯ ಸೌಮಿತ್ರೇ! ರತ್ನೈಸ್ಸಸ್ಯಮಿವಾಮ್ಬುಭಿಃ৷৷2.32.13৷৷


ಸೌಮಿತ್ರೇ Lakshmana, ಅಗಸ್ತ್ಯಮ್ sage Agasthya, ಕೌಶಿಕಂ ಚೈವ to sage Kausika, ಉಭೌ both, ತೌ ಬ್ರಾಹ್ಮಣೋತ್ತಮೌ two eminent brahmins, ಆಹೂಯ having invited, ರತ್ನೈಃ gems, ಸಸ್ಯಂ crops, ಅಮ್ಬುಭಿಃ ಇವ
like rain waters, ಅರ್ಚಯ worship.

O Lakshmana! invite Agastya and Kausika, the two celebrated brahmins, and bestow on them with reverence plenty of precious gems like showers of rain on standing crops.
ತರ್ಪಯಸ್ವ ಮಹಾಬಾಹೋ! ಗೋಸಹಸ್ರೈಶ್ಚ ಮಾನದ!.

ಸುವರ್ಣೈ ರಜತೈಶ್ಚೈವ ಮಣಿಭಿಶ್ಚ ಮಹಾಧನೈಃ৷৷2.32.14৷৷


ಮಹಾಬಾಹೋ O mighty-armed Lakshmana, ಮಾನದ O bestower of honour, ಗೋಸಹಸ್ರೈಶ್ಚ with a thousand cows, ಸುವರ್ಣೈಃ gold, ರಜತೈಶ್ಚೈವ and also silver, ಮಹಾಧನೈಃ great wealth, ಮಣಿಭಿಶ್ಚ with gems also, ತರ್ಪಯಸ್ವ you satisfy them.

Satisfy them, O highly-armed Lakshmana, O bestower of honour! with a thousand cows, gold, silver and with the great wealth of gems.
ಕೌಸಲ್ಯಾಂ ಚ ಯ ಆಶೀರ್ಭಿರ್ಭಕ್ತಃ ಪರ್ಯುಪತಿಷ್ಠತಿ.

ಆಚಾರ್ಯಸ್ತೈತ್ತಿರೀಯಾಣಾಮಭಿರೂಪಶ್ಚ ವೇದವಿತ್৷৷2.32.15৷৷

ತಸ್ಯ ಯಾನಂ ಚ ದಾಸೀಶ್ಚ ಸೌಮಿತ್ರೇ! ಸಮ್ಪ್ರದಾಪಯ.

ಕೌಶೇಯಾನಿ ಚ ವಸ್ತ್ರಾಣಿ ಯಾವತ್ತುಷ್ಯತಿ ಸ ದ್ವಿಜಃ৷৷2.32.16৷৷


ಸೌಮಿತ್ರೇ O Lakshmana, ತೈತ್ತಿರೀಯಾಣಾಮ್ of the Taittiriya branch of the Vedas, ಆಚಾರ್ಯಃ learned preceptor, ಅಭಿರೂಪಶ್ಚ agreeable man, ವೇದವಿತ್ versed in the Vedas, ಯಃ who, ಭಕ್ತಃ devotee,
ಆಶೀರ್ಭಿಃ with blessings, ಕೌಶಲ್ಯಾಮ್ of Kausalya, ಪರ್ಯುಪತಿಷ್ಠತಿ attends on her, ತಸ್ಯ to him, ಸಃ ದ್ವಿಜಃ that brahmin, ಯಾವತ್ till such time, ತುಷ್ಯತಿ is fully satisfied, ಯಾನಂ ಚ chariots, ದಾಸೀಶ್ಚ maid-servants, ಕೌಶೇಯಾನಿ ವಸ್ತ್ರಾಣಿ ಚ silk clothes also, ಸಂಪ್ರದಾಪಯ arrange to give away.

O Lakshmana, give away chariots, maid-servants, silk clothes to learned brahmins of Taittiriya branch and well-versed in the Vedas, to agreeable and faithful brahmins attending on Kausalya with their blessings till they are fully satisfied.
ಸೂತಶ್ಚಿತ್ರರಥಶ್ಚಾರ್ಯ ಸಚಿವಸ್ಸುಚಿರೋಷಿತಃ.

ತೋಷಯೈನಂ ಮಹಾರ್ಹೈಶ್ಚ ರತ್ನೈರ್ವಸ್ತ್ರೈರ್ಧನೈಸ್ತಥಾ৷৷2.32.17৷৷

ಪಶುಕಾಭಿಶ್ಚ ಸರ್ವಾಭಿರ್ಗವಾಂ ದಶಶತೇನ ಚ.


ಆರ್ಯಸಚಿವಃ noble counsellor (of our father), ಚಿತ್ರರಥಃ Chitraratha, ಸೂತಃ charioteer, ಸುಚಿರೋಷಿತಃ lived with us for many years, ಏನಮ್ him, ಮಹಾರ್ಹೈ: with invaluable, ರತ್ನೈಶ್ಚ with jewels, ವಸ್ತ್ರೈ: clothes, ತಥಾ similarly, ಧನೈಃ with wealth,ಸರ್ವಾಭಿಃ with all ,ಪಶುಕಾಭಿಃ ಚ with young female calves, ಗವಾಮ್ cows, ದಶಶತೇನ ಚ by (a thousand) ten hundreds, ತೋಷಯ you may gratify him.

Noble counsellor (of our father) and charioteer Chitraratha has been in our service for many years. Gratify him with invaluable jewels, clothes, wealth, with young female calves and a thousand cows.
ಯೇ ಚೇಮೇ ಕಠಕಾಲಾಪಾ ಬಹವೋ ದಣ್ಡಮಾಣವಾಃ৷৷2.32.18৷৷

ನಿತ್ಯಸ್ವಾಧ್ಯಾಯಶೀಲತ್ವಾನ್ನಾನ್ಯತ್ಕುರ್ವನ್ತಿ ಕಿಞ್ಚನ.

ಅಲಸಾ ಸ್ವಾದುಕಾಮಾಶ್ಚ ಮಹತಾಂ ಚಾಪಿ ಸಮ್ಮತಾಃ৷৷2.32.19৷৷

ತೇಷಾಮಶೀತಿಯಾನಾನಿ ರತ್ನಪೂರ್ಣಾನಿ ದಾಪಯ.

ಶಾಲಿವಾಹಸಹಸ್ರಂ ಚ ದ್ವೇ ಶತೇ ಭದ್ರಕಾಂ ಸ್ತಥಾ৷৷2.32.20৷৷

ವ್ಯಞ್ಜನಾರ್ಥಂ ಚ ಸೌಮಿತ್ರೇ! ಗೋಸಹಸ್ರಮುಪಾಕುರು.


ಕಠಕಾಲಾಪಾಃ men versed in Katha and Kalapa portions of the Vedas, ಯೇ which, ಇಮೇ these, ಬಹವಃ many, ದಣ್ಡಮಾಣವಾಃ brahmacharis holding a staff (as authority given to an ascetic), ನಿತ್ಯಸ್ವಾಧ್ಯಾಯಶೀಲತ್ವಾತ್ engaged daily in the study of Vedas, ಅನ್ಯತ್ other, ಕಿಞ್ಚನ any work, ನ ಕುರ್ವನ್ತಿ not doing, ಅಲಸಾಃ inactive people, ಸ್ವಾದುಕಾಮಾಶ್ಚ fond of delicious food, ಮಹತಾಂ ಚಾಪಿ even for great people, ಸಮ್ಮತಾಃ are highly respected, ತೇಷಾಮ್ for them, ರತ್ನಪೂರ್ಣಾನಿ filled with gems, ಅಶೀತಿಯಾನಾನಿ eighty carts, ಶಾಲಿವಾಹಸಹಸ್ರಂ ಚ a thousand bulls capable of carrying corn, ದ್ವೇ ಶತೇ two hundred, ಭದ್ರಕಾನ್ bulls, ದಾಪಯ arrange to give away, ಸೌಮಿತ್ರೇ O Lakshmana! ವ್ಯಞ್ಜನಾರ್ಥಮ್ for preparing food (with milk products), ಗೋಸಹಸ್ರಮ್ a thousand cows, ಉಪಾಕುರು arrange to give away.

O Lakshmana! many brahmacharis with a staff (as a mark of religious authority) well-versed in Katha and Kalapa portions of the Vedas engaged daily in the study of the Vedas and nothing else. Not active otherwise, they are fond of delicious food and are respected even by great people. Give them eighty carts filled with gems, a thousand bulls capable of carrying paddy, and two hundred oxen capable of ploughing land and a thousand cows for preparing food (with milk products).
ಮೇಖಲೀನಾಂ ಮಹಾಸಙ್ಘಃ ಕೌಸಲ್ಯಾಂ ಸಮುಪಸ್ಥಿತಃ৷৷2.32.21৷৷

ತೇಷಾಂ ಸಹಸ್ರಂ ಸೌಮಿತ್ರೇ! ಪ್ರತ್ಯೇಕಂ ಸಮ್ಪ್ರದಾಪಯ.


ಸೌಮಿತ್ರೇ O Lakshmana! ಮೇಖಲೀನಾಮ್ of brahmacharis (who wear a triple girdle worn by the first three castes), ಮಹಾಸಙ್ಘಃ in large numbers, ಕೌಶಲ್ಯಾಮ್ of Kausalya, ಸಮುಪಸ್ಥಿತಃ depending on, ತೇಷಾಮ್ to them, ಪ್ರತ್ಯೇಕಮ್ for each of them, ಸಹಸ್ರಮ್ thousand (cows), ಸಮ್ಪ್ರದಾಪಯ gift away.

Give each of the large number of brahmacharis wearing girdles and working under Kausalya a thousand (cows or gold coins), O Lakshmana!
ಅಮ್ಬಾ ಯಥಾ ಚ ಸಾ ನನ್ದೇತ್ಕೌಸಲ್ಯಾ ಮಮ ದಕ್ಷಿಣಾಮ್৷৷2.32.22৷৷

ತಥಾ ದ್ವಿಜಾತೀಸ್ತಾ ನ್ಸರ್ವಾನ್ ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಣಾರ್ಚಯ ಸರ್ವಶಃ.


ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಣ O Lakshmana!, ಅಮ್ಬಾ mother, ಸಾ ಕೌಶಲ್ಯಾ Kausalya, ಮಮ my, ದಕ್ಷಿಣಾಮ್ respectful offerings, ಯಥಾ in whichever way, ನನ್ದೇತ್ that pleases, ತಥಾ in that way, ತಾನ್ those, ಸರ್ವಾನ್ all, ದ್ವಿಜಾತೀನ್ brahmins, ಸರ್ವಶಃ in all ways, ಅರ್ಚಯ you may honour.

You should, O Lakshmana! treat all those brahmins in such a way that my mother shall be pleased on seeing my respectful offerings.
ತತ ಸ್ಸಪುರುಷವ್ಯಾಘ್ರಸ್ತದ್ಧನಂ ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಣಃ ಸ್ವಯಮ್৷৷2.32.23৷৷

ಯಥೋಕ್ತಂ ಬ್ರಾಹ್ಮಣೇನ್ದ್ರಾಣಾಂಮದದಾದ್ಧನದೋ ಯಥಾ.


ತತಃ thereupon, ಪುರುಷವ್ಯಾಘ್ರಃ tiger among men (best of men), ಸಃ ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಣಃ that Lakshmana, ಧನದೋ ಯಥಾ like Kubera, bestower of wealth, ತತ್ ಧನಮ್ that wealth, ಯಥೋಕ್ತಮ್ as told (by Rama), ಸ್ವಯಮ್ personally, ಬ್ರಾಹ್ಮಣೇನ್ದ್ರಾಣಾಮ್ to the Indras among brahmins (best brahmins), ಅದದಾತ್ gave.

Thereupon Lakshmana, a tiger among men, personally distributed like Kubera, gifts of riches to all those Indras among brahmins (best of brahmins) in accordance with the instructions of Rama.
ಅಥಾಬ್ರವೀದ್ಬಾಷ್ಪಕಲಾಂಸ್ತಿಷ್ಠತಶ್ಚೋಪಜೀವಿನಃ৷৷2.32.24৷৷

ಸಮ್ಪ್ರದಾಯಬಹುದ್ರವ್ಯಮೇಕೈಕಸ್ಯೋಪಜೀವನಮ್.


ಅಥ thereafter, ಬಾಷ್ಪಕಲಾನ್ men with their throats choked with tears, ತಿಷ್ಠತಃ remaining, ಉಪಜೀವಿನಃ dependents, ಏಕೈಕಸ್ಯ for each one of them, ಬಹು abundance of, ದ್ರವ್ಯಮ್ wealth, ಉಪಜೀವನಮ್ as subsistence, ಸಮ್ಪ್ರದಾಯ having bestowed, ಅಬ್ರವೀತ್ said.

Rama then bestowed abundant wealth on each of the dependents as they stood with their throats choked with tears, saying:
ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಣಸ್ಯ ಚ ಯದ್ವೇಶ್ಮ ಗೃಹಂ ಚ ಯದಿದಂ ಮಮ৷৷2.32.25৷৷

ಅಶೂನ್ಯಂ ಕಾರ್ಯಮೇಕೈಕಂ ಯಾವದಾಗಮನಂ ಮಮ.


ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಣಸ್ಯ Lakshmana's, ಯತ್ which, ವೇಶ್ಮ palace, ಮಮ my, ಇದಮ್ this, ಯತ್ which, ಗೃಹಂ ಚ palace also, ಏಕೈಕಮ್ each one, ಮಮ my, ಯಾವದಾಗಮನಮ್ till I return, ಅಶೂನ್ಯಮ್ without being unattended, ಕಾರ್ಯಮ್ fit to be done.

Till I come back, guard each of the palaces of Lakshmana and mine and ensure that they are not left unattended.
ಇತ್ಯುಕ್ತ್ವಾ ದುಃಖಿತಂ ಸರ್ವಂ ಜನಂ ತಮುಪಜೀವಿನಮ್৷৷2.32.26৷৷

ಉವಾಚೇದಂ ಧನಾಧ್ಯಕ್ಷಂ ಧನಮಾನೀಯತಾಮಿತಿ.


ದುಃಖಿತಮ್ filled with grief, ಉಪಜೀವಿನಮ್ dependents, ಸರ್ವಮ್ all, ತಂ ಜನಮ್ to that group, ಇತಿ thus, ಉಕ್ತ್ವಾ having said, ಧನಮ್ treasure, ಆನೀಯತಾಮ್ bring, ಇತಿ thus, ಇದಮ್ this word, ಧನಾಧ್ಯಕ್ಷಮ್ to treasury officer, ಉವಾಚ said.

Having spoken thus to all dependents who were overcome with grief, Rama ordered the treasury officer to bring the entire treasure.
ತತೋಸ್ಯ ಧನಮಾಜಹ್ರುಸ್ಸರ್ವಮೇವೋಪಜೀವಿನಃ৷৷2.32.27৷৷

ಸ ರಾಶಿಸ್ಸುಮಹಾಂಸ್ತತ್ರ ದರ್ಶನೀಯೋ ಹ್ಯದೃಶ್ಯತ.


ತತಃ after that, ಉಪಜೀವಿನಃ dependents, ಅಸ್ಯ Rama's, ಸರ್ವಮೇವ entire, ಧನಮ್ wealth, ಆಜಹ್ರುಃ brought, ತತ್ರ there, ಸುಮಹಾನ್ extremely great, ಸಃ ರಾಶಿಃ that heap of wealth, ದರ್ಶನೀಯಃ pleasing to see, ಅದೃಶ್ಯತ beheld.

When all the dependents fetched the entire wealth of Rama, they were pleased to see the great heap of wealth.
ತತಸ್ಸಪುರುಷವ್ಯಾಘ್ರ ಸ್ತದ್ಧನಂ ಸಹಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಣಃ৷৷2.32.28৷৷

ದ್ವಿಜೇಭ್ಯೋ ಬಾಲವೃದ್ಧೇಭ್ಯಃ ಕೃಪಣೇಭ್ಯೋಹ್ಯದಾಪಯತ್.


ತತಃ then, ಪುರುಷವ್ಯಾಘ್ರಃ tiger among men (best of men), ಸಃ that Rama, ಸಹಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಣಃ along with Lakshmana, ತತ್ ಧನಮ್ that wealth, ದ್ವಿಜೇಭ್ಯಃ to brahmins, ಬಾಲವೃದ್ಧೇಭ್ಯಃ to the young and old, ಕೃಪಣೇಭ್ಯಃ to the poor, ಅದಾಪಯತ್ got it distributed.

Rama, best among men, got the entire wealth distributed among indigent brahmins, and young and old alike with the help of Lakshmana.
ತತ್ರಾಸೀತ್ಪಿಙ್ಗಲೋ ಗಾರ್ಗ್ಯಸ್ತ್ರಿಜಟೋ ನಾಮ ವೈ ದ್ವಿಜಃ৷৷2.32.29৷৷

ಕ್ಷತವೃತ್ತಿರ್ವನೇ ನಿತ್ಯಂ ಫಾಲಕುದ್ದಾಲಲಾಙ್ಗಲೀ.


ತತ್ರ there, ನಿತ್ಯಮ್ always, ಫಾಲಕುದ್ದಾಲಲಾಙ್ಗಲೀ with an iron-spade and a plough, ವನೇ in the forest, ಕ್ಷತವೃತ್ತಿ: digging the earth as profession, ಪಿಙ್ಗಲಃ a man of reddish-brown colour,
ಗಾರ್ಗ್ಯಃ descendant of sage Gargya, ತ್ರಿಜಟೋ ನಾಮ by name Trijata, ದ್ವಿಜಃ brahmin, ಆಸೀತ್ lived.

A brahmin by name, Trijata, a descendant of sage Garga and of reddish-brown colour used to live in that region earning his livelihood in the forest by digging the earth with an iron-spade and a plough.
ತಂ ವೃದ್ಧಂ ತರುಣೀ ಭಾರ್ಯಾ ಬಾಲಾನಾದಾಯ ದಾರಕಾನ್৷৷2.32.30৷৷

ಅಬ್ರವೀದ್ಬಾಹ್ಮಣಂ ವಾಕ್ಯಂ ದಾರಿದ್ರ್ಯೇಣಾಭಿಪೀಡಿತಾ.


ತರುಣೀ young, ಭಾರ್ಯಾ wife, ದಾರಿದ್ರ್ಯೇಣ due to poverty, ಅಭಿಪೀಡಿತಾ highly distressed, ಬಾಲಾನ್ young, ದಾರಕಾನ್ sons, ಆದಾಯ after presenting, ವೃದ್ಧಮ್ aged, ತಂ ಬ್ರಾಹ್ಮಣಮ್ to that brahmin, ಅಬ್ರವೀತ್ said.

His young wife, highly distressed due to poverty, keeping her young sons before her said to the aged brahmin:
ಅಪಾಸ್ಯ ಫಾಲಂ ಕುದ್ದಾಲಂ ಕುರುಷ್ವ ವಚನಂ ಮಮ৷৷2.32.31৷৷

ರಾಮಂ ದರ್ಶಯ ಧರ್ಮಜ್ಞಂ ಯದಿ ಕಿಞ್ಚಿದವಾಪ್ಸ್ಯಸಿ.


ಫಾಲಮ್ iron, ಕುದ್ದಾಲಮ್ spade, ಅಪಾಸ್ಯ throwing away, ಮಮ my, ವಚನಮ್ words, ಕುರುಷ್ವ implement, ಧರ್ಮಜ್ಞಮ್ knower of righteousness, ರಾಮಮ್ to Rama, ದರ್ಶಯ you may present yourself, ಕಿಞ್ಚಿತ್ something, ಅವಾಪ್ಸ್ಯಸಿ ಯದಿ if at all you may obtain.

Listen to me! throw away this iron-spade. Go and see the righteous Rama.You may obtain something.
ಸ ಭಾರ್ಯಾವಚನಂ ಶ್ರುತ್ವಾ ಶಾಟೀಮಾಚ್ಛಾದ್ಯ ದುಶ್ಛದಾಮ್৷৷2.32.32৷৷

ಸ ಪ್ರಾತಿಷ್ಠತ ಪನ್ಥಾನಂ ಯತ್ರ ರಾಮನಿವೇಶನಮ್.


ಸಃ that Trijata, ಭಾರ್ಯಾವಚನಮ್ wife's words, ಶ್ರುತ್ವಾ having heard, ದುಃಶ್ಛದಾಮ್ tattered clothes, ಶಾಟೀಮ್ upper garment, ಆಚ್ಛಾದ್ಯ having wrapped, ರಾಮನಿವೇಶನಮ್ Rama's palace, ಯತ್ರ where it is located, ಪನ್ಥಾನಮ್ about the path, ಪ್ರಾತಿಷ್ಠತ he set forth.

At the words of his wife, Trijata took the path to Rama's palace, having wrapped himself with a torn upper garment .
ಭೃಗ್ವಙ್ಗಿರಸಮಂ ದೀಪ್ತ್ಯಾ ತ್ರಿಜಟಂ ಜನಸಂಸದಿ৷৷2.32.33৷৷

ಆಪಞ್ಚಮಾಯಾಃ ಕಕ್ಷ್ಯಾಯಾಃ ನೈನಂ ಕಶ್ಚಿದವಾರಯತ್.


ಜನಸಂಸದಿ in the crowd, ದೀಪ್ತ್ಯಾ in lustre, ಭೃಗ್ವಙ್ಗಿರಸಮಮ್ like Bhrugu and Angirasa, ಏನಮ್ this, ತ್ರಿಜಟಮ್ Trijata, ಆಪಞ್ಚಮಾಯಾಃ ಕಕ್ಷ್ಯಾಯಾಃ up to the fifth courtyard, ಕಶ್ಚಿತ್ any one, ನ ಅವಾರಯತ್ did not stop him.

No one in the crowd stopped Tirjata until he reached the fifth courtyard as he looked like Bhrigu and Angirasa in brilliance.
ಸ ರಾಜಪುತ್ರಮಾಸಾದ್ಯ ತ್ರಿಜಟೋ ವಾಕ್ಯಮಬ್ರವೀತ್৷৷2.32.34৷৷

ನಿರ್ಧನೋ ಬಹುಪುತ್ರೋಸ್ಮಿ ರಾಜಪುತ್ರ! ಮಹಾಯಶಃ!.

ಉಞ್ಛವೃತ್ತಿರ್ವನೇ ನಿತ್ಯಂ ಪ್ರತ್ಯವೇಕ್ಷಸ್ವ ಮಾಮಿತಿ৷৷2.32.35৷৷


ಸಃ ತ್ರಿಜಟಃ that Trijata, ರಾಜಪುತ್ರಮ್ prince Rama, ಆಸಾದ್ಯ having approached, ವಾಕ್ಯಮ್ these words, ಅಬ್ರವೀತ್ uttered, ಮಹಾಯಶಃ O illustrious one, ರಾಜಪುತ್ರ O Prince, ನಿರ್ಧನಃ I am a destitute, ಬಹುಪುತ್ರಃ father of many children, ನಿತ್ಯಮ್ daily, ವನೇ in the forest, ಉಞ್ಛವೃತ್ತಿ: ಅಸ್ಮಿ living on collecting the leftover grain of the field, ಮಾಮ್ me, ಪ್ರತ್ಯವೇಕ್ಷಸ್ವ look at, ಇತಿ thus.

Trijata approached Rama and said O illustrious prince! I am a destitute and have many children. I am living in the forest by collecting left-over grains. Look at me.
ತಮುವಾಚ ತತೋ ರಾಮ: ಪರಿಹಾಸ ಸಮನ್ವಿತಮ್.

ಗವಾಂ ಸಹಸ್ರಮಪ್ಯೇಕಂ ನ ನು ವಿಶ್ರಾಣಿತಂ ಮಯಾ৷৷2.32.36৷৷

ಪರಿಕ್ಷಿಪಸಿ ದಣ್ಡೇನ ಯಾವತ್ತಾವದವಾಪ್ಸ್ಯಸಿ.


ತತಃ then, ರಾಮಃ Rama, ಪರಿಹಾಸಸಮನ್ವಿತಮ್ jokingly, ತಮ್ him, ಉವಾಚ said, ಮಯಾ by me, ಏಕಮ್ one, ಗವಾಂ ಸಹಸ್ರಮಪಿ thousand cows, ನ ಚ ವಿಶ್ರಾಣಿತಮ್ not yet given away, ದಣ್ಡೇನ with staff, ಯಾವತ್ as far as, ಪರಿಕ್ಷಿಪಸಿ you will hurl, ತಾವತ್ till such place, ಅವಾಪ್ಸ್ಯಸಿ you will obtain.

Rama jokingly replied to him, I have not yet gifted one thousand cows. Throw your staff and the cows on the space your staff covers will be yours.
ಸ ಶಾಟೀಂ ತ್ವರಿತಃ ಕಟ್ಯಾಂ ಸಮ್ಭ್ರಾನ್ತಃ ಪರಿವೇಷ್ಟ್ಯ ತಾಮ್৷৷2.32.37৷৷

ಆವಿದ್ಧ್ಯ ದಣ್ಡಂ ಚಿಕ್ಷೇಪ ಸರ್ವಪ್ರಾಣೇನ ವೇಗಿತಃ.


ಸಃ Trijata, ಸಮ್ಭ್ರಾನ್ತಃ bewildered, ತ್ವರಿತಃ swiftly, ತಾಂ ಶಾಟೀಮ್ his upper garment, ಕಟ್ಯಾಮ್ on his waist, ಪರಿವೇಷ್ಟ್ಯ after throwing round, ದಣ್ಡಮ್ staff, ಆವಿದ್ಧ್ಯ after setting the direction, ವೇಗಿತಃ swiftly, ಸರ್ವಪ್ರಾಣೇನ with all his might, ಚಿಕ್ಷೇಪ hurled.

Bewildered Trijata swiftly tightened up his upper garment around his waist, set the direction for his staff and hurled it with all his might.
ಸ ತೀರ್ತ್ವಾ ಸರಯೂಪಾರಂ ದಣ್ಡಸ್ತಸ್ಯ ಕರಾಚ್ಚ್ಯುತಃ৷৷2.32.38৷৷

ಗೋವ್ರಜೇ ಬಹುಸಾಹಸ್ರೇ ಪಪಾತೋಕ್ಷಣಸನ್ನಿಧೌ.


ತಸ್ಯ his, ಕರಾತ್ from the hand, ಚ್ಯುತಃ released, ಸಃ ದಣ್ಡಃ that staff, ಸರಯೂಪಾರಮ್ the bank of Sarayu river, ತೀರ್ತ್ವಾ having crossed, ಬಹುಸಾಹಸ್ರೇ in very many thousands, ಗೋವ್ರಜೇ in the midst of multitude of cows, ಉಕ್ಷಣಸನ್ನಿಧೌ near a bull, ಪಪಾತ fell.

The staff he hurled crossed the bank of the river Sarayu and fell near a bull in the midst of a thousands cows.
ತಂ ಪರಿಷ್ವಜ್ಯ ಧರ್ಮಾತ್ಮಾ ಆತಸ್ಮಾತ್ಸರಯೂತಟಾತ್৷৷2.32.39৷৷

ಆನಯಾಮಾಸ ತಾ ಗೋಪೈ ಸ್ತ್ರಿಜಟಾಯಾಶ್ರಮಂ ಪ್ರತಿ.


ಧರ್ಮಾತ್ಮಾ virtuous , ತಮ್ him, ಪರಿಷ್ವಜ್ಯ having embraced, ತಸ್ಮಾತ್ that, ಆಸರಯೂತಟಾತ್ up to the bank of Sarayu river, ತಾಃ those cows, ಗೋಪೈಃ by herdsmen, ತ್ರಿಜಟಾಯ Trijata's, ಆಶ್ರಮಂ ಪ್ರತಿ
towards the hermitage, ಆನಯಾಮಾಸ brought them.

The virtuous Rama embraced Trijata, and despatched all the cattle extending up to the bank of Sarayu to his hermitage.
ಉವಾಚ ಸ ತತೋ ರಾಮಸ್ತಂ ಗಾರ್ಗ್ಯಮಭಿಸಾನ್ತ್ವಯನ್.

ಮನ್ಯುರ್ನ ಖಲು ಕರ್ತವ್ಯಃ ಪರಿಹಾಸೋ ಹ್ಯಯಂ ಮಮ৷৷2.32.40৷৷


ತತಃ afterwards, ರಾಮಃ Rama, ತಂ ಗಾರ್ಗ್ಯಮ್ that Gargya, ಅಭಿಸಾನ್ತ್ವಯನ್ consoling (him), ಉವಾಚ said, ಮನ್ಯುಃ anger, ನ ಖಲು ಕರ್ತವ್ಯಃ should not be made, ಅಯಮ್ this, ಮಮ my, ಪರಿಹಾಸಃ a joke.

Afterwards Rama sought to placate Trijata, that descendant of Ganga, saying: This was a joke. Do not be angry.
ಇದಂ ಹಿ ತೇಜಸ್ತವ ಯದ್ದುರತ್ಯಯಂ

ತದೇವ ಜಿಜ್ಞಾಸಿತುಮಿಚ್ಛತಾ ಮಯಾ.

ಇಮಂ ಭವಾನರ್ಥಮಭಿ ಪ್ರಚೋದಿತೋ

ವೃಣೀಷ್ವ ಕಿಂ ಚೇದಪರಂ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಯತಿ৷৷2.32.41৷৷


ತವ your, ದುರತ್ಯಯಮ್ unsurpassable, ಯತ್ which, ತೇಜಃ power, ತತ್ that, ಜಿಜ್ಞಾಸಿತುಮ್ to ascertain, ಇಚ್ಛತಾ ಏವ indeed desiring, ಮಯಾ by me, ಭವಾನ್ you, ಇಮಮ್ this, ಅರ್ಥಮ್ act, ಅಭಿಪ್ರಚೋದಿತಃ incited, ಅಪರಮ್ other, ಕಿಮ್ any other, ವ್ಯವಸ್ಯತಿ ಚೇತ್ if sought, ವೃಣೀಷ್ವ you may ask for.

Your power is unsurpassable and to ascertain this, I incited you to do this act. If
there is anything else, ask for it.
ಬ್ರವೀಮಿ ಸತ್ಯೇನ ನತೇಸ್ತಿ ಯನ್ತ್ರಣಾ

ಧನಂ ಹಿ ಯದ್ಯನ್ಮಮ ವಿಪ್ರಕಾರಣಾತ್.

ಭವತ್ಸು ಸಮ್ಯಕ್ಪ್ರತಿಪಾದನೇನ ತ-

ನ್ಮಯಾರ್ಜಿತಂ ಪ್ರೀತಿಯಶಸ್ಕರಂ ಭವೇತ್৷৷2.32.42৷৷


ಸತ್ಯೇನ truly, ಬ್ರವೀಮಿ I speak, ತೇ to you, ಯನ್ತ್ರಣಾ restraint (to seek this much only), ನಾಸ್ತಿ is not there, ಮಮ my, ಯದ್ಯತ್ whichever, ಧನಮ್ wealth, ವಿಪ್ರಕಾರಣಾತ್ ಹಿ indeed for brahmins only, ಮಯಾ by me, ರ್ಜಿತಮ್ earned, ತತ್ that, ಭವತ್ಸು in you, ಸಮ್ಯಕ್ correctly, ಪ್ರತಿಪಾದನೇನ by offering, ಪ್ರೀತಿಯಶಸ್ಕರಮ್ ಭವೇತ್ gives me pleasure and renown.

Truly speaking, there is no limit to seeking wealth. My wealth is specifically meant for brahmins. By distributing all the wealth earned by me, I get pleasure and renown.
ತತ ಸ್ಸಭಾರ್ಯ ಸ್ತ್ರಿಜಟೋ ಮಹಾಮುನಿ-

ರ್ಗವಾಮನೀಕಂ ಪ್ರತಿಗೃಹ್ಯ ಮೋದಿತಃ.

ಯಶೋಬಲಪ್ರೀತಿಸುಖೋಪಬೃಂಹಣೀ-

ಸ್ತದಾಶಿಷ: ಪ್ರತ್ಯವದನ್ಮಹಾತ್ಮನಃ৷৷2.32.43৷৷


ತತಃ thereafter, ಸಭಾರ್ಯಃ along with his wife, ಮಹಾಮುನಿಃ great sage, ತ್ರಿಜಟಃ Trijata, ಗವಾಮ್ cows, ಅನೀಕಮ್ multitude, ಪ್ರತಿಗೃಹ್ಯ having accepted, ಮೋದಿತಃ delighted, ತದಾ then, ಮಹಾತ್ಮನಃ magnanimous (Rama), ಯಶೋಬಲಪ್ರೀತಿಸುಖೋಪಬೃಂಹಣೀಃ enhancing glory, power, pleasure and prosperity, ಆಶಿಷಃ blessings, ಪ್ರತ್ಯವದತ್ gave in reply.

Thereafter that great sage Trijata along with his wife, immensely happy to receive multitudes of cows, pronounced blessings on the magnanimous Rama for glory, power, pleasure and prosperity.
ಸ ಚಾಪಿ ರಾಮಃ ಪ್ರತಿಪೂರ್ಣಮಾನಸೋ

ಮಹದ್ಧನಂ ಧರ್ಮಬಲೈರುಪಾರ್ಜಿತಮ್.

ನಿಯೋಜಯಾಮಾಸ ಸುಹೃಜ್ಜನೇಚಿರಾ-

ದ್ಯಥಾರ್ಹಸಮ್ಮಾನವಚಃ ಪ್ರಚೋದಿತಃ৷৷2.32.44৷৷


ಸಃ that, ರಾಮ: ಚಾಪಿ Rama also, ಪ್ರತಿಪೂರ್ಣಮಾನಸಃ with completely satisfied mind, ಧರ್ಮಬಲೈಃ through dharma, ಉಪಾರ್ಜಿತಮ್ earned, ಮಹತ್ ಧನಮ್ vast wealth, ಅಚಿರಾತ್ without delay, ಯಥಾರ್ಹಸಮ್ಮಾನವಚಃ ಪ್ರಚೋದಿತಃ prompted by the deserving words of acclaim, ಸುಹೃಜ್ಜನೇ among his friends, ನಿಯೋಜಯಾಮಾಸ offered.

Prompted by the deserving words of acclaim from his friends, Rama distributed with joy and without delay the entire wealth earned by him through dharma.
ದ್ವಿಜ ಸ್ಸುಹೃದ್ಭೃತ್ಯಜನೋಥವಾ ತದಾ

ದರಿದ್ರಭಿಕ್ಷಾಚರಣಶ್ಚ ಯೋಭವತ್.

ನ ತತ್ರ ಕಶ್ಚಿನ್ನ ಬಭೂವ ತರ್ಪಿತೋ

ಯಥಾರ್ಹಸಮ್ಮಾನನ ದಾನ ಸಮ್ಭ್ರಮೈಃ৷৷2.32.46৷৷


ತತ್ರ there, ತದಾ then, ಯಃ such, ದ್ವಿಜ: a brahmin, ಸುಹೃತ್ friend, ಅಥವಾ or, ಭೃತ್ಯಜನಃ servant, ದರಿದ್ರ ಭಿಕ್ಷಾಚರಣಶ್ಚ poor or beggar, ಕಶ್ಚಿತ್ any one, ಯಥಾರ್ಹಸಮ್ಮಾನನದಾನಸಮ್ಭ್ರಮೈಃ with the befitting honour or with charity, ನ ತರ್ಪಿತಃ not satisfied, ನ ಬಭೂವ there was none.

Thus there was none among those brahmins, attendants, poor people, and beggars, who was not satisfied with the honour (received) or with the charity.
ಇತ್ಯಾರ್ಷೇ ಶ್ರೀಮದ್ರಾಮಾಯಣೇ ವಾಲ್ಮೀಕೀಯ ಆದಿಕಾವ್ಯೇ ಅಯೋಧ್ಯಾಕಾಣ್ಡೇ ದ್ವಾತ್ರಿಂಶಸ್ಸರ್ಗಃ৷৷
Thus ends the thirtysecond sarga of Ayodhyakanda of the holy Ramayana, the first
epic composed by sage Valmiki.
