[Vasistha advises Rama and Sita to undertake fast preparatory to coronation.]

ಸನ್ದಿಶ್ಯ ರಾಮಂ ನೃಪತಿ ಶ್ಶ್ವೋಭಾವಿನ್ಯಭಿಷೇಚನೇ.

ಪುರೋಹಿತಂ ಸಮಾಹೂಯ ವಶಿಷ್ಠಮಿದಮಬ್ರವೀತ್৷৷2.5.1৷৷


ನೃಪತಿಃ the king, ರಾಮಮ್ Rama, ಸನ್ದಿಶ್ಯ having instructed, ಪುರೋಹಿತಮ್ priest, ವಶಿಷ್ಠಮ್ Vasistha, ಸಮಾಹೂಯ summoning, ಶ್ವಃ on the following day, ಭಾವಿನಿ about to take place, ಅಭಿಷೇಚನೇ with regard to coronation, ಇದಮ್ these words, ಅಬ್ರವೀತ್ spoke.

The king having instructed Rama summoned Vasistha, the priest and spoke to him about the coronation that was to take place on the following day
ಗಚ್ಛೋಪವಾಸಂ ಕಾಕುತ್ಸ್ಥಂ ಕಾರಯಾದ್ಯ ತಪೋಧನ.

ಶ್ರೀಯಶೋರಾಜ್ಯಲಾಭಾಯ ವಧ್ವಾ ಸಹ ಯತವ್ರತಮ್৷৷2.5.2৷৷


ತಪೋಧನ O sage whose wealth is asceticism, ಗಚ್ಛ go, ಅದ್ಯ today, ಯತವ್ರತಮ್ strictly observing vows, ಕಾಕುತ್ಸ್ಥಮ್ son of the family of Kakutstha (Rama), ಶ್ರೀಯಶೋರಾಜ್ಯಲಾಭಾಯ for securing prosperity, fame and kingdom, ವಧ್ವಾ ಸಹ along with my daughter-in-law, ಉಪವಾಸಮ್ ಕಾರಯ advise him to undertake fast.

Could you, O sage, whose wealth is asceticism go to Rama engaged in strict observance of vows and advise him along with Sita, my daughter-in-law to undertake fast for securing prosperity, fame and kingdom.
ತಥೇತಿ ಚ ಸ ರಾಜಾನಮುಕ್ತ್ವಾ ವೇದವಿದಾಂ ವರಃ.

ಸ್ವಯಂ ವಸಿಷ್ಠೋ ಭಗವಾನ್ಯಯೌ ರಾಮನಿವೇಶನಮ್৷৷2.5.3৷৷

ಉಪವಾಸಯಿತುಂ ರಾಮಂ ಮನ್ತ್ರವನ್ಮನ್ತ್ರಕೋವಿದಃ.

ಬ್ರಾಹ್ಮಂ ರಥವರಂ ಯುಕ್ತಮಾಸ್ಥಾಯ ಸುದೃಢವ್ರತಃ৷৷2.5.4৷৷


ವೇದವಿದಾಮ್ of those who know the Vedas, ವರಃ best, ಮನ್ತ್ರಕೋವಿದಃ skilled in mantras, ಸುದೃಢವ್ರತಃ one who is firm in his vows, ಭಗವಾನ್ venerable, ಸಃ ವಸಿಷ್ಠಃ that Vasistha, ತಥಾ ಇತಿ Be it so, ರಾಜಾನಾಮ್ king, ಉಕ್ತ್ವಾ having said, ಯುಕ್ತಮ್ harnessed, ಬ್ರಾಹ್ಮಮ್ befitting a brahmin, ರಥವರಮ್ best of chariots, ಆಸ್ಥಾಯ having mounted, ರಾಮಮ್ to Rama, ಮನ್ತ್ರವತ್ in accompaniment with mantras, ಉಪವಾಸಯಿತುಮ್ to make him fast, ಸ್ವಯಮ್ personally, ರಾಮನಿವೇಶನಮ್ to the abode of Rama, ಯಯೌ went.

Venerabel Vasistha, the best amongst the knowers of the Vedas, skilled in mantras and firm in his vows said to the king, 'Be it so.' Thereafter, mounted on the best of the chariots befitting a brahmin, with horses harnesed he proceeded personally to the abode of Rama to ask him to undertake a fast in accompaniment with mantras preceding the installation ceremony.
ಸ ರಾಮಭವನಂ ಪ್ರಾಪ್ಯ ಪಾಣ್ಡುರಾಭ್ರಘನಪ್ರಭಮ್.

ತಿಸ್ರಃ ಕಕ್ಷ್ಯಾ ರಥೇನೈವ ವಿವೇಶಮುನಿಸತ್ತಮಃ৷৷2.5.5৷৷


ಸಃ ಮುನಿಸತ್ತಮಃ that foremost of ascetics, ಪಾಣ್ಡುರಾಭ್ರಘನಪ್ರಭಮ್ shining like a mass of white clouds beaming with brightness, ರಾಮಭವನಮ್ abode of Rama, ಪ್ರಾಪ್ಯ having reached, ತಿಸ್ರಃ three, ಕಕ್ಷ್ಯಾಃ yards, ರಥೇನೈವ mounted on the chariot itself, ವಿವೇಶ entered.

Having crossed the three courtyards in the chariot, that foremost of ascetics (Vasistha) entered Rams's abode, shining like a mass of white clouds.
ತಮಾಗತಮೃಷಿಂ ರಾಮಸ್ತ್ವರನ್ನಿವ ಸಸಮ್ಭ್ರಮಃ.

ಮಾನಯಿಷ್ಯನ್ಸಮಾನಾರ್ಹಂ ನಿಶ್ಚಕ್ರಾಮ ನಿವೇಶನಾತ್৷৷2.5.6৷৷


ಸಃ ರಾಮಃ that Rama, ಮಾನಾರ್ಹಮ್ worthy of honour, ಆಗತಮ್ who arrived pale, ತಮ್ ಋಷಿಮ್ to the sage (Vasistha), ಮಾನಯಿಷ್ಯನ್ to pay respect, ತ್ವರನ್ನಿವ quickly, ಸಸಮ್ಭ್ರಮಃ in great excitement, ನಿವೇಶನಾತ್ from his abode, ನಿಶ್ಚಕ್ರಾಮ came out.

Seeing the venerable sage(Vasitha) arrive, Rama quickly came out of his abode in great excitement to receive him with honour.
ಅಭ್ಯೇತ್ಯ ತ್ವರಮಾಣಶ್ಚ ರಥಾಭ್ಯಾಶಂ ಮನೀಷಿಣಃ.

ತತೋವತಾರಯಾಮಾಸ ಪರಿಗೃಹ್ಯ ರಥಾತ್ಸ್ವಯಮ್৷৷2.5.7৷৷


ಮನೀಷಿಣಃ sagacious Vasistha's, ರಥಾಭ್ಯಾಶಮ್ near the chariot, ತ್ವರಮಾಣಃ hastening steps, ಅಭ್ಯೇತ್ಯ having approached, ತತಃ thereafter, ರಥಾತ್ from the chariot, ಸ್ವಯಮ್ personally , ಪರಿಗೃಹ್ಯ holding(his hand), ಅವತಾರಯಾಮಾಸ got him alighted.

Hastening with rapid strides, Rama approached the chariot of the sagacious Vasistha and personally helped him alight from the chariot.
ಸ ಚೈನಂ ಪ್ರಶ್ರಿತಂ ದೃಷ್ಟ್ವಾ ಸಮ್ಭಾಷ್ಯಾಭಿಪ್ರಸಾದ್ಯ ಚ.

ಪ್ರಿಯಾರ್ಹಂ ಹರ್ಷಯನ್ರಾಮಮಿತ್ಯುವಾಚ ಪುರೋಹಿತಃ৷৷2.5.8৷৷


ಸಃ ಪುರೋಹಿತಃ ಚ the family priest also, ಪ್ರಿಯಾರ್ಹಮ್ lovable words, ಪ್ರಶ್ರಿತಮ್ humble, ಏನಮ್ ರಾಮಮ್ to this Rama, ದೃಷ್ಟ್ವಾ having seen, ಸಂಭಾಷ್ಯ having addressed him, ಅಭಿಪ್ರಸಾದ್ಯ ಚ and making him gratified, ಹರ್ಷಯನ್ causing him delight, ಇತಿ thus, ಉವಾಚ said.

The family priest Vasistha also, having gratified him by enquiring about his welfare, said thus to Rama, who was humble and lovable:
ಪ್ರಸನ್ನಸ್ತೇ ಪಿತಾ ರಾಮ ಯೌವರಾಜ್ಯಮವಾಪ್ಸ್ಯಸಿ.

ಉಪವಾಸಂ ಭವಾನದ್ಯ ಕರೋತು ಸಹ ಸೀತಯಾ৷৷2.5.9৷৷


ರಾಮ O Rama, ತೇ with you, ಪಿತಾ (your) father, ಪ್ರಸನ್ನಃ well-disposed, ಯೌವರಾಜ್ಯಮ್ as heir-apparent, ಅವಾಪ್ಸ್ಯಸಿ will obtain, ಭವಾನ್ you, ಅದ್ಯ today, ಸಹ ಸೀತಯಾ with Sita, ಉಪವಾಸಂ ಕರೋತು undertake fast.

O Rama!, well-disposed towards you, your father will declare you heir-apparent. Do undertake fast today, along with Sita.
ಪ್ರಾತಸ್ತ್ವಾಮಭಿಷೇಕ್ತಾ ಹಿ ಯೌವರಾಜ್ಯೇ ನರಾಧಿಪಃ.

ಪಿತಾ ದಶರಥಃ ಪ್ರೀತ್ಯಾ ಯಯಾತಿಂ ನಹುಷೋ ಯಥಾ৷৷2.5.10৷৷


ನರಾಧಿಪಃ the king, ಪಿತಾ father, ದಶರಥಃ Dasaratha, ಪ್ರಾತಃ early in the morning, ತ್ವಾಮ್ you, ನಹುಷಃ Nahusha, ಯಯಾತಿಂ ಯಥಾ like Yayati, ಪ್ರೀತ್ಯಾ with affection, ಯೌವರಾಜ್ಯೇ as heir-apparent, ಅಭಿಷೇಕ್ತಾ ಹಿ will coronate .

Your father, king Dasaratha, will be pleased to coronate you as heir-apparent early tomorrow morning as Nahusa did (to his son) Yayati.
ಇತ್ಯುಕ್ತ್ವಾ ಸ ತದಾ ರಾಮಮುಪವಾಸಂ ಯತವ್ರತಮ್.

ಮನ್ತ್ರವತ್ಕಾರಯಾಮಾಸ ವೈದೇಹ್ಯಾ ಸಹಿತಂ ಮುನಿಃ৷৷2.5.11৷৷


ಸಃ ಮುನಿಃ that ascetic(Vasistha), ಇತಿ thus, ಉಕ್ತ್ವಾ having spoken, ಯತವ್ರತಮ್ observing vow, ವೈದೇಹ್ಯಾ ಸಹಿತಮ್ together with Sita, ರಾಮಮ್ Rama, ತದಾ then, ಮನ್ತ್ರವತ್ in accompaniment with sacred hymns, ಉಪವಾಸಮ್ fast, ಕಾರಯಾಮಾಸ made (to undertake).

The ascetic (Vasistha) having thus spoken to Rama made him undertake fast along with Sita in accompaniment with sacred hymns.
ತತೋ ಯಥಾವದ್ರಾಮೇಣ ಸ ರಾಜ್ಞೋ ಗುರುರರ್ಚಿತಃ.

ಅಭ್ಯನುಜ್ಞಾಪ್ಯ ಕಾಕುತ್ಸ್ಥಂ ಯಯೌ ರಾಮನಿವೇಶನಾತ್৷৷2.5.12৷৷


ತತಃ thereafter, ರಾಜ್ಞಃ king's, ಗುರುಃ preceptor, ಸಃ he, (Vasistha), ರಾಮೇಣ by Rama, ಯಥಾವತ್ duly, ಅರ್ಚಿತಃ honoured, ಕಾಕುತ್ಸ್ಥಮ್ the descendant of Kakutstha (Rama), ಅಭ್ಯನುಜ್ಞಾಪ್ಯ having taken leave, ರಾಮನಿವೇಶನಾತ್ from the abode of Rama, ಯಯೌ departed.

Thereafter, Vasistha, preceptor of the king duly honoured by the descendant of Kakutstha (Rama) left his abode.
ಸುಹೃದ್ಭಿಸ್ತತ್ರ ರಾಮೋಪಿ ಸಹಾಸೀನಃ ಪ್ರಿಯಂವದೈಃ.

ಸಭಾಜಿತೋ ವಿವೇಶಾಥ ತಾನನುಜ್ಞಾಪ್ಯ ಸರ್ವಶಃ৷৷2.5.13৷৷


ರಾಮೋಪಿ Rama also, ಪ್ರಿಯಂವದೈಃ talking affectionately, ಸುಹೃದ್ಭಿ: ಸಹ in the company of friends, ತತ್ರ there, ಆಸೀನಃ being seated, ಅಥ thereafter, ಸಭಾಜಿತಃ having been honoured, ಸರ್ವಶಃ in all ways, ತಾನ್ them, ಅನುಜ್ಞಾಪ್ಯ having taken leave, ವಿವೇಶ entered (his apartment).

Rama also sat for a while in the company of his sweet-tongued friends and duly honoured by them in every way took leave of them and entered his apartment.
ಹೃಷ್ಟನಾರೀನರಯುತಂ ರಾಮವೇಶ್ಮ ತದಾ ಬಭೌ.

ಯಥಾ ಮತ್ತದ್ವಿಜಗಣಂ ಪ್ರಫುಲ್ಲನಲಿನಂ ಸರಃ৷৷2.5.14৷৷


ತದಾ then, ಹೃಷ್ಟನಾರೀನರಯುತಮ್ filled with cheerful men and women, ರಾಮವೇಶ್ಮ Rama's residence, ಮತ್ತದ್ವಿಜಗಣಮ್ multitude of intoxicated birds, ಪ್ರಫುಲ್ಲನಲಿನಮ್ with full-blown lotuses, ಸರಃ ಯಥಾ
like a lake, ಬಭೌ was splendid.

The residence of Rama, full of cheerful men and women, looked splendid like a lake with full-blown lotuses flocked by multitudes of intoxicated birds.
ಸ ರಾಜಭವನಪ್ರಖ್ಯಾತ್ತಸ್ಮಾದ್ರಾಮನಿವೇಶಾನಾತ್.

ನಿರ್ಗತ್ಯ ದದೃಶೇ ಮಾರ್ಗಂ ವಸಿಷ್ಠೋ ಜನಸಂವೃತಮ್৷৷2.5.15৷৷


ಸಃ ವಸಿಷ್ಠಃ that Vasistha, ರಾಜಭವನಪ್ರಖ್ಯಾತ್ resembling a royal palace, ತಸ್ಮಾತ್ from that, ರಾಮನಿವೇಶನಾತ್ abode of Rama, ನಿರ್ಗತ್ಯ having emerged, ಜನಸಂವೃತಮ್ filled with people, ಮಾರ್ಗಮ್ highway, ದದೃಶೇ beheld.

Vasistha thereafter emerged from the abode of Rama resembling a royal palace and beheld the highways filled with people.
ಬೃನ್ದಬೃನ್ದೈರಯೋಧ್ಯಾಯಾಂ ರಾಜಮಾರ್ಗಾಸ್ಸಮನ್ತತಃ.

ಬಭೂವುರಭಿಸಮ್ಬಾಧಾಃ ಕುತೂಹಲಜನೈರ್ವೃತಾಃ৷৷2.5.16৷৷


ಅಯೋಧ್ಯಾಯಾಮ್ in the city of Ayodhya, ರಾಜಮಾರ್ಗಾಃ royal highways, ಸಮನ್ತತಃ on all sides, ಬೃನ್ದಬೃನ್ದೈಃ crowds of, ಕುತೂಹಲಜನೈಃ by curious people, ವೃತಾಃ surrounded, ಅಭಿಸಮ್ಬಾಧಾಃ ಬಭೂವು: were jammed.

The royal highways in the city of Ayodhya were jammed on all sides with groups of curious people.
ಜನಬೃನ್ದೋರ್ಮಿಸಂಘರ್ಷಹರ್ಷಸ್ವನವತಸ್ತದಾ.

ಬಭೂವ ರಾಜಮಾರ್ಗಸ್ಯ ಸಾಗರಸ್ಯೇವ ನಿಸ್ವನಃ৷৷2.5.17৷৷


ತದಾ then, ಜನಬೃನ್ದೋರ್ಮಿಸಂಘರ್ಷಹರ್ಷಸ್ವನವತಃ the exultation of the multitudes resembled the roar of the clashing of waves, ರಾಜಮಾರ್ಗಸ್ಯ of the highways, ನಿಸ್ವನಃ sound, ಸಾಗರಸ್ಯೇವ like that of the roaring sea, ಬಭೂವ emerged.

The highways resembled the sea and the exultation of the multitudes, the roar that emanated from the clashing of waves.
ಸಿಕ್ತಸಮ್ಮೃಷ್ಟರಥ್ಯಾ ಹಿ ತದಹರ್ವನಮಾಲಿನೀ.

ಆಸೀದಯೋಧ್ಯಾನಗರೀ ಸಮುಚ್ಛ್ರಿತಗೃಹಧ್ವಜಾ৷৷2.5.18৷৷


ತದಹಃ on that day, ಅಯೋಧ್ಯಾನಗರೀ the city of Ayodhya, ಸಿಕ್ತಸಮ್ಮೃಷ್ಟರಥ್ಯಾ ಹಿ with thoroughfares sprinkled with water and swept, ವನಮಾಲಿನೀ surrounded with gardens, ಸಮುಚ್ಛ್ರಿತಗೃಹಧ್ವಜಾ ಆಸೀತ್ banners raised high on the houses.

On that day, the thoroughfares of the city of Ayodhya, surrounded with (pleasure) gardens, were sprinkled with water and swept. The flags (on the top) of the houses were raised high.
ತದಾ ಹ್ಯಯೋಧ್ಯಾನಿಲಯ ಸ್ಸಸ್ತ್ರೀಬಾಲಾಬಲೋ ಜನಃ.

ರಾಮಾಭಿಷೇಕಮಾಕಾಙ್ಕ್ಷನ್ನಾಕಾಙ್ಕ್ಷದುದಯಂ ರವೇಃ৷৷2.5.19৷৷


ತದಾ then, ಸಸ್ತ್ರೀಬಾಲಾಬಲಃ with women, children, and weak, old persons, ಅಯೋಧ್ಯಾನಿಲಯಃ living
in Ayodhya, ಜನಃ people, ರಾಮಾಭಿಷೇಕಮ್ coronation of Rama, ಆಕಾಙ್ಕ್ಷಾನ್ desiring, ರವೇ: ಉದಯಮ್ sunrise, ಆಕಾಙ್ಕ್ಷತ್ eagerly desired.

Then all the people living in Ayodhya including women, children and aged alike wishing to see the coronation of Rama eagerly waited for the sunrise.
ಪ್ರಜಾಲಙ್ಕಾರಭೂತಂ ಚ ಜನಸ್ಯಾನನ್ದವರ್ಧನಮ್.

ಉತ್ಸುಕೋಭೂಜ್ಜನೋ ದ್ರಷ್ಟುಂ ತಮಯೋಧ್ಯಾಮಹೋತ್ಸವಮ್৷৷2.5.20৷৷


ಪ್ರಜಾಲಙ್ಕಾರಭೂತಮ್ like an ornament for people, ಜನಸ್ಯ for men, ಆನನ್ದವರ್ಧನಮ್ enhancing joy, ತಮ್ ಅಯೋಧ್ಯಾಮಹೋತ್ಸವಮ್ that great festival of Ayodhya, ದ್ರಷ್ಟುಮ್ to witness, ಜನಃ men, ಉತ್ಸುಕಃ ಅಭೂತ್ became anxious.

People were anxious to witness that great festival of Ayodhya which was to them
(precious) like an ornament and a source of immense joy.
ಏವಂ ತಜ್ಜನಸಮ್ಬಾಧಂ ರಾಜಮಾರ್ಗಂ ಪುರೋಹಿತಃ.

ವ್ಯೂಹನ್ನಿವ ಜನೌಘಂ ತಂ ಶನೈ ರಾಜಕುಲಂ ಯಯೌ৷৷2.5.21৷৷


ಪುರೋಹಿತಃ priest (Vasistha), ಏವಮ್ in this way, ಜನಸಮ್ಬಾಧಮ್ thronged with men, ತಂ ರಾಜಮಾರ್ಗಮ್ that highway, ತಂ ಜನೌಘಮ್ crowds of men, ವ್ಯೂಹನ್ನಿವ like dividing (into two tracts), ಶನೈಃ slowly, ರಾಜಕುಲಮ್ royal palace, ಯಯೌ went.

The priest (Vasistha), beholding the overcrowded highway forced his passage through the crowds of men dividing them into two tracts and slowly entered the royal palace.
ಸಿತಾಭ್ರಶಿಖರಪ್ರಖ್ಯಂ ಪ್ರಾಸಾದಮಧಿರುಹ್ಯ ಸಃ.

ಸಮೀಯಾಯ ನರೇನ್ದ್ರೇಣ ಶಕ್ರೇಣೇವ ಬೃಹಸ್ಪತಿಃ৷৷2.5.22৷৷


ಸಃ he, ಸಿತಾಭ್ರಶಿಖರಪ್ರಖ್ಯಮ್ looking like the peak of a mountain covered with white clouds, ಪ್ರಾಸಾದಮ್ royal palace, ಅಧಿರುಹ್ಯ having ascended, ಬೃಹಸ್ಪತಿಃ Brihaspati, ಶಕ್ರೇಣೇವ like Indra,
ನರೇನ್ದ್ರೇಣ with king, ಸಮೀಯಾಯ met.

Having ascended the royal palace resembling the peak of a mountain covered with white clouds, Vasistha approached the king like Brihaspati meeting Indra.
ತಮಾಗತಮಭಿಪ್ರೇಕ್ಷ್ಯ ಹಿತ್ವಾ ರಾಜಾಸನಂ ನೃಪಃ.

ಪಪ್ರಚ್ಛ ಸ ಚ ತಸ್ಮೈ ತತ್ಕೃತಮಿತ್ಯಭ್ಯವೇದಯತ್৷৷2.5.23৷৷


ನೃಪಃ king, ಆಗತಮ್ who had arrived, ತಮ್ him, ಅಭಿಪ್ರೇಕ್ಷ್ಯ having seen, ರಾಜಾಸನಮ್ the throne, ಹಿತ್ವಾ after leaving, ಪಪ್ರಚ್ಛ enquired, ಸಃ ಚ he also, ತತ್ that, ಕೃತಮ್ performed, ಇತಿ thus, ತಸ್ಮೈ him, ಅಭ್ಯವೇದಯತ್ informed.

On seeing Vasistha the king descended from the throne and enquired whether he had performed the mission to which the ascetic replied affirmatively.
ಚೈವ ತದಾ ತುಲ್ಯಂ ಸಹಾಸೀನಾಸ್ಸಭಾಸದಃ.

ಆಸನೇಭ್ಯಸ್ಸಮುತ್ತಸ್ಥುಃ ಪೂಜಯನ್ತಃ ಪುರೋಹಿತಮ್৷৷2.5.24৷৷


ತದಾ then, ಸಹ ಆಸೀನಾಃ seated with him, ಸಭಾಸದಃ courtiers, ತೇನ ತುಲ್ಯಮ್ ಏವ in the same way as he (Dasaratha) did, ಪುರೋಹಿತಮ್ to the priest, ಪೂಜಯನ್ತಃ to pay obeisance, ಆಸನೇಭ್ಯಃ from their seats, ಸಮುತ್ತಸ್ಥುಃ rose.

All those present in the assembly with him (the king) also got up from their seats as he (Dasaratha) did and paid their obeisance to Vasistha.
ಗುರುಣಾ ತ್ವಭ್ಯನುಜ್ಞಾತೋ ಮನುಜೌಘಂ ವಿಸೃಜ್ಯ ತಮ್.

ವಿವೇಶಾನ್ತಃ ಪುರಂ ರಾಜಾ ಸಿಂಹೋ ಗಿರಿಗುಹಾಮಿವ৷৷2.5.25৷৷


ರಾಜಾ the king, ಗುರುಣಾ by the preceptor, ಅಭ್ಯನುಜ್ಞಾತಃ having been permitted, ತಮ್ ಮನುಜೌಘಮ್ that assembly of men, ವಿಸೃಜ್ಯ having disposed, ಸಿಂಹಃ lion, ಗಿರಿಗುಹಾಮಿವ like the cave of a mountain, ಅನ್ತಃಪುರಮ್ inner apartment, ವಿವೇಶ entered.

The king then, dully permitted by the preceptor, disposed the assembly of men and stepped into his inner apartment, like a lion entering the cave of a mountain.

ಪಾರ್ಥಿವಃ the king, ಅಗ್ಯ್ರವೇಷಪ್ರಮದಾಜನಾಕುಲಮ್ thronged with excellently attired women, ಮಹೇನ್ದ್ರವೇಶ್ಮಪ್ರತಿಮಮ್ equal to the palace of Mahendra, ತಂ ನಿವೇಶನಮ್ that inner apartment, ವಿದೀಪಯನ್ illumining, ಚಾರು beautiful, ತಾರಾಗಣಸಙ್ಕುಲಮ್ crowded with stars, ನಭಃ sky, ಶಶೀವ like Moon, ವಿವೇಶ entered.

The king entered the inner apartment thronged with excellently attired women which looked like the palace of Mahendra. He resembled the beautiful Moon that illuminates the sky crowded with stars.

Thus ends the fifth sarga of Ayodhyakanda of the holy Ramayana, the first epic composed by sage Valmiki.
