[Bharata and Satrughna meet grief-stricken Kausalya --- Kausalya reproaches Bharata harshly --- Bharata appeases Kausalya and curses himself --- Kausalya gets convinced of Bharata's conviction.]

ದೀರ್ಘಕಾಲಾತ್ಸಮುತ್ಥಾಯ ಸಂಜ್ಞಾಂ ಲಬ್ಧ್ವಾ ಚ ವೀರ್ಯವಾನ್.

ನೇತ್ರಾಭ್ಯಾಮಶ್ರುಪೂರ್ಣಾಭ್ಯಾಂ ದೀನಾಮುದ್ವೀಕ್ಷ್ಯ ಮಾತರಮ್৷৷2.75.1৷৷

ಸೋಮಾತ್ಯಮಧ್ಯೇ ಭರತೋ ಜನನೀಮಭ್ಯಕುತ್ಸಯತ್.


ವೀರ್ಯವಾನ್ valiant, ಸಃ ಭರತಃ that Bharata, ದೀರ್ಘಕಾಲಾತ್ after a long time, ಸಮುತ್ಥಾಯ risen up, ಸಂಜ್ಞಾಮ್ senses, ಲಬ್ಧ್ವಾ ಚ having regained, ಅಶ್ರುಪೂರ್ಣಾಭ್ಯಾಮ್ filled with tears, ನೇತ್ರಾಭ್ಯಾಮ್ with eyes, ದೀನಾಮ್ unfortunate, ಮಾತರಮ್ mother, ಉದ್ವೀಕ್ಷ್ಯ having looked up, ಅಮಾತ್ಯಮಧ್ಯೇ in the midst of counsellors, ಜನನೀಮ್ mother, ಅಭ್ಯಕುತ್ಸಯತ್ condemned.

On regaining his senses after a long time, the valiant Bharata looked at his unfortunate mother whose eyes were filled with tears, and condemned her amidst the counsellors.
ರಾಜ್ಯಂ ನ ಕಾಮಯೇ ಜಾತು ಮನ್ತ್ರಯೇ ನಾಪಿ ಮಾತರಮ್৷৷2.75.2৷৷

ಅಭಿಷೇಕಂ ನ ಜಾನಾಮಿ ಯೋಭೂದ್ರಾಜ್ಞಾ ಸಮೀಕ್ಷಿತಃ.

ವಿಪ್ರಕೃಷ್ಟೇಹ್ಯಹಂ ದೇಶೇ ಶತ್ರುಘ್ನಸಹಿತೋವಸಮ್৷৷2.75.3৷৷


ಜಾತು at any time, ರಾಜ್ಯಮ್ kingdom, ನ ಕಾಮಯೇ I do not wish, ಮಾತರಮ್ ಅಪಿ even (with) mother, ನ ಮನ್ತ್ರಯೇ consulted, ಯಃ the consecration, ರಾಜ್ಞಾ by king, ಸಮೀಕ್ಷಿತಃ ಅಭೂತ್ has been supervised, ಅಭಿಷೇಕಮ್ consecration, ನ ಜಾನಾಮಿ am not aware, ಅಹಮ್ I, ಶತ್ರುಘ್ನಸಹಿತಃ with Satrughna, ವಿಪ್ರಕೃಷ್ಟೇ in a distant, ದೇಶೇ country, ಅವಸಮ್ ಹಿ stayed.

Neither did I ever desire the kingdom nor did I ever consult my mother in this regard and I am not even aware of the consecration that was planned by the king for I was away in a distant country with Satrughna.
ವನವಾಸಂ ನ ಜಾನಾಮಿ ರಾಮಸ್ಯಾಹಂ ಮಹಾತ್ಮನಃ.

ವಿವಾಸನಂ ವಾ ಸೌಮಿತ್ರೇ ಸ್ಸೀತಾಯಾಶ್ಚ ಯಥಾಭವತ್৷৷2.75.4৷৷


ಅಹಮ್ I, ಮಹಾತ್ಮನಃ of great, ರಾಮಸ್ಯ Rama's, ವನವಾಸಮ್ banishment, ನ ಜಾನಾಮಿ do not know, ಸೌಮಿತ್ರೇಃ Lakshmana's, ಸೀತಾಯಾಶ್ಚ Sita's, ವಿವಾಸನಮ್ exile, ಯಥಾ ಅಭವತ್ how it happened.

I knew nothing of the banishment of great Rama nor did I know how Lakshmana or Sita had gone on exile.
ತಥೈವ ಕ್ರೋಶತಸ್ತಸ್ಯ ಭರತಸ್ಯ ಮಹಾತ್ಮನಃ.

ಕೌಸಲ್ಯಾ ಶಬ್ದಮಾಜ್ಞಾಯ ಸುಮಿತ್ರಾಮಿದಮಬ್ರವೀತ್৷৷2.75.5৷৷


ತಥೈವ in that way, ಕ್ರೋಶತಃ wailing, ಮಹಾತ್ಮನಃ of the magnanimous, ಭರತಸ್ಯ Bharata's, ಶಬ್ದಮ್ sound, ಆಜ್ಞಾಯ having recognised, ಕೌಶಲ್ಯಾ Kausalya, ಸುಮಿತ್ರಾಮ್ addressing Sumitra, ಇದಮ್ these words, ಅಬ್ರವೀತ್ spoke.

As magnanimous Bharata was wailing, Kausalya recognised his voice and said to Sumitra:
ಆಗತಃ ಕ್ರೂರಕಾರ್ಯಾಯಾಃ ಕೈಕೇಯ್ಯಾ ಭರತಸ್ಸುತಃ.

ತಮಹಂ ದ್ರಷ್ಟುಮಿಚ್ಛಾಮಿ ಭರತಂ ದೀರ್ಘದರ್ಶಿನಮ್৷৷2.75.6৷৷


ಕ್ರೂರಕಾರ್ಯಾಯಾಃ of a woman of cruel deeds, ಕೈಕೇಯ್ಯಾಃ Kaikeyi's, ಸುತಃ son, ಭರತಃ Bharata, ಆಗತಃ has come, ದೀರ್ಘದರ್ಶಿನಮ್ far-sighted, ತಂ ಭರತಮ್ that Bharata, ಅಹಮ್ I, ದ್ರಷ್ಟುಮ್ to see, ಇಚ್ಛಾಮಿ I am wishing

Bharata, the far-sighted son of Kaikeyi of cruel deeds has come and I wish to see him.
ಏವಮುಕ್ತ್ವಾ ಸುಮಿತ್ರಾಂ ಸಾ ವಿವರ್ಣಾ ಮಲಿನಾ ಕೃಶಾ.

ಪ್ರತಸ್ಥೇ ಭರತೋ ಯತ್ರ ವೇಪಮಾನಾ ವಿಚೇತನಾ৷৷2.75.7৷৷


ವಿವರ್ಣಾ turned pallid, ಮಲಿನಾ sullied, ಕೃಶಾ emaciated, ಸಾ that Kausalya, ಸುಮಿತ್ರಾಮ್ to Sumitra,
ಏವಮ್ thus, ಉಕ್ತ್ವಾ having uttered, ವೇಪಮಾನಾ trembling, ವಿಚೇತನಾ almost lifeless, ಭರತಃ Bharata, ಯತ್ರ wherever, ಪ್ರತಸ್ಥೇ set out.

Having said so to Sumitra, Kausalya trembling and almost lifeless, emaciated, sullied and turned pallid set out for the place where Bharat was.
ಸ ತು ರಾಮಾನುಜಶ್ಚಾಪಿ ಶತ್ರುಘ್ನಸಹಿತಸ್ತದಾ.

ಪ್ರತಸ್ಥೇ ಭರತೋ ಯತ್ರ ಕೌಸಲ್ಯಾಯಾ ನಿವೇಶನಮ್৷৷2.75.8৷৷


ತದಾ then, ರಾಮಾನುಜಃ younger brother of Rama, ಸಃ ಭರತಃ ತು Bharata on his part, ಶತ್ರುಘ್ನಸಹಿತಃ accompanied by Satrughna, ಕೌಶಲ್ಯಾಯಾಃ to Kausalya's, ನಿವೇಶನಮ್ residence, ಯತ್ರ wherever, ಪ್ರತಸ್ಥೇ proceeded.

But at the same time Bharata, the younger brother of Rama accompanied by Satrughna proceeded to the place where Kausalya resided.
ತತ ಶ್ಶತ್ರುಘ್ನಭರತೌ ಕೌಸಲ್ಯಾಂ ಪ್ರೇಕ್ಷ್ಯ ದುಃಖಿತೌ.

ಪರ್ಯಷ್ವಜೇತಾಂ ದುಃಖಾರ್ತಾಂ ಪತಿತಾಂ ನಷ್ಟಚೇತಸಾಮ್৷৷2.75.9৷৷

ರುದನ್ತೌ ರುದತೀಂ ದುಃಖಾತ್ಸಮೇತ್ಯಾರ್ಯಾಂ ಮನಸ್ಸ್ವಿನೀಮ್.


ತತಃ then, ಶತ್ರುಘ್ನಭರತೌ Satrughna and Bharata, ದುಃಖಾರ್ತಾಮ್ grief-stricken, ನಷ್ಟಚೇತಸಾಮ್ semi conscious, ರುದತೀಮ್ weeping, ಆರ್ಯಾಮ್ venerable, ಮನಸ್ಸ್ವಿನೀಮ್ noble-hearted, ಕೌಶಲ್ಯಾಮ್ Kausalya, ಪ್ರೇಕ್ಷ್ಯ having seen, ದುಃಖಿತೌ overcome with sorrow, ರುದನ್ತೌ agonised, ದುಃಖಾತ್ with great sorrow, ಸಮೇತ್ಯ having approached, ಪರ್ಯಷ್ವಜೇತಾಮ್ hugged.

Then agonised Bharata and Satrughna, beholding that venerable, noble-hearted, grief-stricken, weeping Kausalya who was almost semiconscious overcome with grief, approached her with great sorrow and hugged her.
ಭರತಂ ಪ್ರತ್ಯುವಾಚೇದಂ ಕೌಸಲ್ಯಾ ಭೃಶದುಃಖಿತಾ৷৷2.75.10৷৷

ಇದಂ ತೇ ರಾಜ್ಯಕಾಮಸ್ಯ ರಾಜ್ಯಂ ಪ್ರಾಪ್ತಮಕಣ್ಟಕಮ್.

ಸಂಪ್ರಾಪ್ತಂ ಬತ ಕೈಕೇಯ್ಯಾ ಶಶೀಘ್ರಂ ಕ್ರೂರೇಣ ಕರ್ಮಣಾ৷৷2.75.11৷৷


ಭೃಶದುಃಖಿತಾ deeply afflicted, ಕೌಶಲ್ಯಾ Kausalya, ಭರತಂ ಪ್ರತಿ looking at Bharata, ಇದಮ್ these words, ಉವಾಚ said, ರಾಜ್ಯಕಾಮಸ್ಯ of one desirous of the kingdom, ತೇ to you, ಇದಮ್ this, ಅಕಣ್ಟಕಮ್ without obstacles, ರಾಜ್ಯಮ್ kingdom, ಪ್ರಾಪ್ತಮ್ has been acquired, ಕೈಕೇಯ್ಯಾಃ Kaikeyi's, ಕ್ರೂರೇಣ by crooked, ಕರ್ಮಣಾ with act, ಶೀಘ್ರಮ್ quickly, ಸಮ್ಪ್ರಾಪ್ತಮ್ secured, ಬತ alas.

Looking at Bharata, the deeply afflicted Kausalya said, The kingdom which you had desired has been acquired without any obstacle. Alas! Kaikeyi had quickly secured it for you through her crooked act.
ಪ್ರಸ್ಥಾಪ್ಯ ಚೀರವಸನಂ ಪುತ್ರಂ ಮೇ ವನವಾಸಿನಮ್.

ಕೈಕೇಯೀ ಕಂ ಗುಣಂ ತತ್ರ ಪಶ್ಯತಿ ಕ್ರೂರದರ್ಶಿನೀ৷৷2.75.12৷৷


ಕ್ರೂರದರ್ಶಿನೀ one of cruel thoughts, ಕೈಕೇಯೀ Kaikeyi, ಮೇ my, ಪುತ್ರಮ್ son, ಚೀರವಸನಮ್ clad in bark robes, ವನವಾಸಿನಮ್ a forest-dweller, ಪ್ರಸ್ಥಾಪ್ಯ having sent, ತತ್ರ there, ಕಮ್ what, ಗುಣಮ್ advantage, ಪಶ್ಯತಿ sees?

What advantage did cruel Kaikeyi visualize in sending away my son to dwell in the forest wearing robes of bark?
ಕ್ಷಿಪ್ರಂ ಮಾಮಪಿ ಕೈಕೇಯೀ ಪ್ರಸ್ಥಾಪಯಿತುಮರ್ಹತಿ.

ಹಿರಣ್ಯನಾಭೋ ಯತ್ರಾಸ್ತೇ ಸುತೋ ಮೇ ಸುಮಹಾಯಶಾಃ৷৷2.75.13৷৷


ಸುಮಹಾಯಶಾಃ illustrious, ಹಿರಣ್ಯನಾಭಃ golden-navalled one, ಮೇ ಸುತಃ my son, ಯತ್ರ whereever, ಆಸ್ತೇ stays, ಮಾಮಪಿ me also, ಕೈಕೇಯೀ Kaikeyi, ಕ್ಷಿಪ್ರಮ್ without delay, ಪ್ರಸ್ಥಾಪಯಿತುಮ್ to send me, ಅರ್ಹತಿ behoves her.

Kaikeyi should send me also without any delay to that place where my illustrious
Rama with golden navel dwells.
ಅಥವಾ ಸ್ವಯಮೇವಾಹಂ ಸುಮಿತ್ರಾನುಚರಾ ಸುಖಮ್.

ಅಗ್ನಿಹೋತ್ರಂ ಪುರಸ್ಕೃತ್ಯ ಪ್ರಸ್ಥಾಸ್ಯೇ ಯತ್ರ ರಾಘವಃ৷৷2.75.14৷৷


ಅಥವಾ or else, ಅಹಮ್ I, ಸ್ವಯಮೇವ on my own, ಸುಮಿತ್ರಾನುಚರಾ with Sumitra as companion, ಅಗ್ನಿಹೋತ್ರಮ್ with sacred fire, ಪುರಸ್ಕೃತ್ಯ holding in front of me, ರಾಘವಃ Rama, ಯತ್ರ where, ಸುಖಮ್ happily, ಪ್ರಸ್ಥಾಸ್ಯೇ shall set out.

Or else I, accompanied by Sumitra, shall go happily on my own holding the sacred fire in front to that place where Rama dwells.
ಕಾಮಂ ವಾ ಸ್ವಯಮೇವಾದ್ಯ ತತ್ರ ಮಾಂ ನೇತುಮರ್ಹಸಿ.

ಯತ್ರಾಸೌ ಪುರುಷವ್ಯಾಘ್ರಃ ಪುತ್ರೋ ಮೇ ತಪ್ಯತೇ ತಪಃ৷৷2.75.15৷৷


ವಾ or, ಪುರುಷವ್ಯಾಘ್ರಃ tiger among men, ಮೇ ಪುತ್ರೋ my son, ಅಸೌ this Rama, ಯತ್ರ where, ತಪಃ the austerities, ತಪ್ಯತೇ performing, ತತ್ರ there, ಸ್ವಯಮೇವ yourself, ಅದ್ಯ now, ಮಾಮ್ me, ಕಾಮಮ್ certainly indeed, ನೇತುಮ್ to take, ಅರ್ಹಸಿ behoves you.

Or, you should now take me personally to that place where, my son Rama, the best among men, is performing austerities.
ಇದಂ ಹಿ ತವ ವಿಸ್ತೀರ್ಣಂ ಧನಧಾನ್ಯಸಮಾಚಿತಮ್.

ಹಸ್ತ್ವಶ್ವರಥಸಮ್ಪೂರ್ಣಂ ರಾಜ್ಯಂ ನಿರ್ಯಾತಿತಂ ತಯಾ৷৷2.75.16৷৷


ಹಸ್ತ್ಯಶ್ವರಥಸಮ್ಪೂರ್ಣಮ್ abounding in elephants, horses and chariots, ಧನಧಾನ್ಯಸಮಾಚಿತಮ್ with abundace of wealth and grain, ವಿಸ್ತೀರ್ಣಮ್ vast, ಇದಂ ರಾಜ್ಯಮ್ this kingdom, ತಯಾ by her, ತವ to you, ನಿರ್ಯಾತಿತಂ ಹಿ has been delivered.

This vast kingdom, with all its abundance of wealth and grain, elephants, horses and chariots has been delivered to you by her.
ಇತ್ಯಾದಿಬಹುಭಿರ್ವಾಕ್ಯೈಃ ಕ್ರೂರೈಃ ಸಮ್ಭರ್ತ್ಸಿತೋನಘಃ.

ವಿವ್ಯಥೇ ಭರತಸ್ತೀವ್ರಂ ವ್ರಣೇ ತುದ್ಯೇವ ಸೂಚಿನಾ৷৷2.75.17৷৷


ಇತ್ಯಾದಿ like this, ಬಹುಭಿಃ by many, ಕ್ರೂರೈಃ harsh, ವಾಕ್ಯೈಃ with words, ಸೂಚಿನಾ with needle, ವ್ರಣೇ in the wound, ತುದ್ಯೇವ as if by piercing, ಸಮ್ಭರ್ತ್ಸಿತಃ reproached, ಅನಘಃ sinless, ಭರತಃ Bharata, ತೀವ್ರಮ್ intensely, ವಿವ್ಯಥೇ was afflicted.

Thus reproached by many a harsh word, like needle pricking a wound, the sinless Bharata was intensely pained.
ಪಪಾತ ಚರಣೌ ತಸ್ಯಾಸ್ತದಾ ಸಮ್ಭ್ರಾನ್ತಚೇತನಃ.

ವಿಲಪ್ಯ ಬಹುಧಾಸಂಜ್ಞೋ ಲಬ್ಧಸಂಜ್ಞಸ್ತತಃ ಸ್ಥಿತಃ৷৷2.75.18৷৷


ತದಾ then, ಸಮ್ಭ್ರಾನ್ತಚೇತನಃ with senses reeling, ತಸ್ಯಾಃ her, ಚರಣೌ feet, ಪಪಾತ fell, ಬಹುಧಾ repeatedly, ವಿಲಪ್ಯ lamenting, ಅಸಂಜ್ಞಃ unconscious, ತತಃ then, ಲಬ್ಧಸಂಜ್ಞಃ on regaining the senses, ಸ್ಥಿತಃ stood.

(Having heard these words), his senses reeling, he became unconscious, lamented profusaly and fell at her feet. And on regaining his senses, he stood motionless.
ಏವಂ ವಿಲಪಮಾನಾಂ ತಾಂ ಭರತಃ ಪ್ರಾಞ್ಜಲಿಸ್ತದಾ.

ಕೌಸಲ್ಯಾಂ ಪ್ರತ್ಯುವಾಚೇದಂ ಶೋಕೈರ್ಬಹುಭಿರಾವೃತಾಮ್৷৷2.75.19৷৷


ತದಾ then, ಭರತಃ Bharata, ಪ್ರಾಞ್ಜಲಿಃ his palms joined in reverence, ಏವಮ್ in that manner, ವಿಲಪಮಾನಾಮ್ lamenting, ಬಹುಭಿಃ intense, ಶೋಕೈಃ with sorrow, ಆವೃತಾಮ್ overwhelmed with, ತಾಂ ಕೌಶಲ್ಯಾಮ್ that Kausalya, ಇದಮ್ these words, ಪ್ರತ್ಯುವಾಚ replied.

As Kausalya was lamenting in this manner, overwhelmed with deep grief, Bharata, his palms joined in reverence, replied her in these words:
ಆರ್ಯೇ! ಕಸ್ಮಾದಜಾನನ್ತಂ ಗರ್ಹಸೇ ಮಾಮಕಿಲ್ಬಿಷಮ್.

ವಿಪುಲಾಂ ಚ ಮಮ ಪ್ರೀತಿಂ ಸ್ಥಿರಾಂ ಜಾನಾಸಿ ರಾಘವೇ৷৷2.75.20৷৷


ಆರ್ಯೇ! O noble lady, ಆಜಾನನ್ತಮ್ unaware, ಅಕಿಲ್ಬಿಷಮ್ guiltless, ಮಾಮ್ me, ಕಸ್ಮಾತ್ for what
reason, ಗರ್ಹಸೇ upbraiding, ರಾಘವೇ in Rama, ಮಮ my, ವಿಪುಲಾಮ್ profound, ಸ್ಥಿರಾಮ್ steadfast, ಪ್ರೀತಿಮ್ affection, ಜಾನಾಸಿ you know.

O noble lady! unaware (of what had happened), I am guiltless. Why do you upbraid me? You know well my profound, steadfast affection for Raghava (Rama).
ಕೃತಾ ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಾನುಗಾ ಬುದ್ಧಿರ್ಮಾಭೂತ್ತಸ್ಯ ಕದಾಚನ.

ಸತ್ಯಸನ್ಧ ಸ್ಸತಾಂ ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠೋ ಯಸ್ಯಾರ್ಯೋನುಮತೇ ಗತಃ৷৷2.75.21৷৷


ಸತ್ಯಸನ್ಧಃ bound to truth, ಸತಾಮ್ ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠಃ best among virtuous men, ಆರ್ಯಃ noble (Rama), ಯಸ್ಯ whose ಅನುಮತೇ with sanction, ಗತಃ banished, ತಸ್ಯ his, ಬುದ್ಧಿಃ thought, ಕದಾಚನ at any time, ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಾನುಗಾ adhered to the scriptures, ಕೃತಾ steadfast, ಮಾ ಭೂತ್ let it not happen.

Did not the one who counselled the banishment of my noble brother who is steadfast and bound by truth and virtue, ever adhered to scriptures?
(or)
My noble brother (Rama), the best among the virtuous, bound to truth, is banished. Let not such thought occur at any time to one who steadfastly adheres to scriptures!
ಪ್ರೇಷ್ಯಂ ಪಾಪೀಯಸಾಂ ಯಾತು ಸೂರ್ಯಞ್ಚ ಪ್ರತಿಮೇಹತು.

ಹನ್ತು ಪಾದೇನ ಗಾಂ ಸುಪ್ತಾಂ ಯಸ್ಯಾರ್ಯೋನುಮತೇ ಗತಃ৷৷2.75.22৷৷


ಆರ್ಯಃ noble one (Rama), ಯಸ್ಯ whose, ಅನುಮತೇ with sanction, ಗತಃ exiled, ಪಾಪೀಯಸಾಮ್ the most sinful of men, ಪ್ರೇಷ್ಯಮ್ servitude, ಯಾತು shall obtain, ಸೂರ್ಯಂ ಚ ಪ್ರತಿ facing the Sun, ಮೇಹತು pass urine, ಸುಪ್ತಾಮ್ sleeping, ಗಾಮ್ cow, ಪಾದೇನ by foot, ಹನ್ತು kick.

May the one who counselled the exile of my esteemed brother, Rama be cursed with the sin of undergoing servitude in the hands of most sinful of men, the sin of passing urine facing the Sun and of kicking a sleeping cow.
ಕಾರಯಿತ್ವಾ ಮಹತ್ಕರ್ಮ ಭರ್ತಾ ಭೃತ್ಯಮನರ್ಥಕಮ್.

ಅಧರ್ಮೋ ಯೋಸ್ಯ ಸೋಸ್ಯಾಸ್ತು ಯಸ್ಯಾರ್ಯೋನುಮತೇಗತಃ৷৷2.75.23৷৷


ಆರ್ಯಃ noble one, ಯಸ್ಯ whose, ಅನುಮತೇ counsel, ಗತಃ was exiled, ಅಸ್ಯ that man, ಯಃ ಭರ್ತಾ the master, ಭೃತ್ಯಮ್ his servant, ಅನರ್ಥಕಮ್ without remuneration, ಮಹತ್ difficult, ಕರ್ಮ work, ಕಾರಯಿತ್ವಾ having got done, ಅಸ್ಯ to that man, ಯಃ ಅಧರ್ಮಃ acquire the unrighteousness, ಸಃ that must, ಅಸ್ತು be it in that way.

May the one who counselled the exile of my esteemed brother acquire the demerit of unrighteousness in the same way as a master who gets a difficult work done by a servant without remuneration.
ಪರಿಪಾಲಯಮಾನಸ್ಯ ರಾಜ್ಞೋ ಭೂತಾನಿ ಪುಯತ್ರವತ್.

ಆರ್ಯಃ esteemed one, ಯಸ್ಯ whose, ಅನುಮತೇ with sanction, ಗತಃ was exiled, for him ರಾಜ್ಞಃ by the king, ಭೂತಾನಿ his subjects, ಪುತ್ರವತ್ like his own children, ಪರಿಪಾಲಯಮಾನಸ್ಯ is ruling, ತತಃ father indeed, ದ್ರುಹ್ಯತಾಮ್ who are treacherously acting, ಪಾಪಮ್ sin, ತತ್ shall happen.

May the one who counselled the exile of my esteemed brother acquire the sin in the same way as a man acting treacherously against a king who rules like a father and protects his subjects like his own children, acquires.
ಬಲಿಷಡ್ಭಾಗಮುದ್ಧೃತ್ಯ ನೃಪಸ್ಯಾರಕ್ಷತಃ ಪ್ರಜಾಃ.

ಅಧರ್ಮೋ ಯೋಸ್ಯ ಸೋಸ್ಯಾಸ್ತು ಯಸ್ಯಾರ್ಥೋನುಮತೇ ಗತಃ৷৷2.75.25৷৷


ಆರ್ಯಃ esteemed one, ಯಸ್ಯ whose, ಅನುಮತೇ with sanction, ಗತಃ exiled, ಅಸ್ಯ for him, ಬಲಿಷಡ್ಭಾಗಮ್ sixth portion of their revenue as tax, ಉದ್ಧೃತ್ಯ having received, ನೃಪಸ್ಯ of the king, ಪ್ರಜಾಃ the people, ಅರಕ್ಷತಃ while not protecting, ಅಸ್ಯ for him, ಅಧರ್ಮಃ that unrighteousness, ಸ: that one, ಅಸ್ತು so be it.

unrighteousness in the same way as a king who, having received one sixth of the income as tax from people does not protect them!

ಆರ್ಯಃ esteemed one, ಯಸ್ಯ whose, ಅನುಮತೇ with sanction, ಗತಃ exiled, ತಪಸ್ವಿಭ್ಯಃ for ascetics, ಸತ್ರೇ at sacrifice, ಯಜ್ಞದಕ್ಷಿಣಾಮ್ the offerings at a sacrifice, ಸಂಶ್ರುತ್ಯ having promised, ತಾಮ್ that one, ವಿಪ್ರಲವತಾಮ್ those who deny them later, ಪಾಪಮ್ acquire sin.

May the one who counselled the exile of my esteemed brother acquire the sin in the same way as a person acquires for having promised the ascetics the required offering at a sacrifice and later denies them!
ಹಸ್ತ್ಯಶ್ವರಥಸಮ್ಬಾಧೇ ಯುದ್ಧೇ ಶಸ್ತ್ರಸಮಾಕುಲೇ.

ಮಾ ಸ್ಮ ಕಾರ್ಷೀತ್ಸತಾಂ ಧರ್ಮಂ ಯಸ್ಯಾರ್ಯೋನುಮತೇ ಗತಃ৷৷2.75.27৷৷


ಆರ್ಯಃ esteemed one, ಯಸ್ಯ whose, ಅನುಮತೇ with sanction, ಗತಃ exiled, ಹಸ್ತ್ಯಶ್ವರಥಸಮ್ಬಾಧೇ abundantly provided with elephants, horses and chariots, ಶಸ್ತ್ರಸಮಾಕುಲೇ filled with weapons, ಯುದ್ಧೇ in a battle, ಸತಾಮ್ virtuous men's, ಧರ್ಮಮ್ righteous, ಮಾ ಸ್ಮ ಕಾರ್ಷೀತ್
shall not do.

May the one who counselled the exile of my esteemed brother acquire the demerit in the same way as a person, who having gone to the battleground abundantly provided with elephants, horses, chariots and weapons fails to discharge the duty (of a fighter)!

ಆರ್ಯಃ esteemed one (Rama), ಯಸ್ಯ whose, ಅನುಮತೇ with sanction, ಗತಃ exiled, ವ್ಯೂಢಬಾಹ್ವಂಸಮ್ long-armed and broad-shoulderd one, ಚನ್ದ್ರಾರ್ಕಸಮತೇಜಸಮ್ resembling Sun and Moon in radiance, ರಾಜ್ಯಸ್ಥಮ್ on the throne, ಆಸೀನಮ್ seated, ತಮ್ that Rama, ಮಾ ಚ ದ್ರಾಕ್ಷೀತ್ never behold him.

May the one who counselled the exile of my esteemed brother be highly unfortunate like me in not being able to behold that long-armed and broad-shoulderd one seated on the throne and resembling both the Sun and the Moon in radiance!

May the one who counselled the exile of my esteemed brother acquire the demerit in the same way as a person, who partakes the sweet milk-rice, sesame-rice and goat's flesh without purpose (without invoking and offering it to the gods) and disrespects the teachers!
ಗಾಶ್ಚ ಸ್ಪೃಶತು ಪಾದೇನ ಗುರೂನ್ಪರಿವದೇತ್ಸ್ವಯಮ್.

ಮಿತ್ರೇ ದ್ರುಹ್ಯೇತ ಸೋತ್ಯನ್ತಂ ಯಸ್ಯಾರ್ಯೋನುಮತೇ ಗತಃ৷৷2.75.31৷৷


ಆರ್ಯಃ esteemed one, ಯಸ್ಯ whose, ಅನುಮತೇ with sanction, ಗತಃ was exiled, ಸಃ that person, ಪಾದೇನ with foot, ಗಾಃ cows, ಸ್ಪೃಶತು may touch (kick), ಸ್ವಯಮ್ himself, ಗುರೂನ್ elders, ಪರಿವದೇತ್ may be abused, ಮಿತ್ರೇ friend, ಅತ್ಯನ್ತಮ್ greately, ದ್ರುಹ್ಯೇತ causes offence.

ವಿಶ್ವಾಸಾತ್ಕಥಿತಂ ಕಿಞ್ಚಿತ್ಪರಿವಾದಂ ಮಿಥಃ ಕ್ವಚಿತ್.

ವಿವೃಣೋತು ಸ ದುಷ್ಟಾತ್ಮಾ ಯಸ್ಯಾರ್ಯೋಮತೇ ಗತಃ৷৷2.75.32৷৷


ಆರ್ಯಃ esteemed one, ಯಸ್ಯ whose, ಅನುಮತೇ with sanction, ಗತಃ exiled, ಸಃ ದುಷ್ಟಾತ್ಮಾ that wicked-minded man, ಕ್ವಚಿತ್ at some place, ಮಿಥಃ secretly, ವಿಶ್ವಾಸಾತ್ in confidence, ಕಥಿತಮ್ told, ಕಿಞ್ಚಿತ್ little, ಪರಿವಾದಮ್ words of abuse, ವಿವೃಣೋತು may divulge.

May the one who counselled the exile of my esteemed brother, acquire the sin in the same way as a wicked-minded person, who divulges the words of abuse secretly confided in him by his friends.
ಅಕರ್ತಾ ಹ್ಯಕೃತಜ್ಞಶ್ಚ ತ್ಯಕ್ತಾಚಾತ್ಮಾ ನಿರಪತ್ರಪಃ.

ಲೋಕೇ ಭವತು ವಿದ್ವಿಷ್ಟೋ ಯಸ್ಯಾರ್ಯೋನುಮತೇ ಗತಃ৷৷2.75.33৷৷


ಆರ್ಯಃ esteemed one, ಯಸ್ಯ whose, ಅನುಮತೇ with sanction, ಗತಃ was exiled, ಅಕರ್ತಾ one who never helps, ಅಕೃತಜ್ಞಃ ಚ an ungrateful one, ತ್ಯಕ್ತಾತ್ಮಾ one who deserted his life, ನಿರಪತ್ರಪ: shameless one, ಲೋಕೇ in this world, ವಿದ್ವಿಷ್ಟೋ ಭವತು worthy to be hated.

May the one who counselled the exile of my esteemed brother be hated universally as one who never helps any one, who is ungrateful, shameless and as one who has committed the sin of suicide!
ಪುತ್ರೈರ್ದಾರೈಶ್ಚ ಭೃತ್ಯೈಶ್ಚ ಸ್ವಗೃಹೇ ಪರಿವಾರಿತಃ.

ಸ ಏಕೋ ಮೃಷ್ಟಮಶ್ನಾತು ಯಸ್ಯಾರ್ಯೋನುಮತೇ ಗತಃ৷৷2.75.34৷৷


ಆರ್ಯಃ esteemed one, ಯಸ್ಯ whose, ಅನುಮತೇ with sanction, ಗತಃ exiled, that man, ಸ್ವಗೃಹೇ in his own house, ಪುತ್ರೈರ್ದಾರೈಶ್ಚ by wife and children, ಭೃತ್ಯೈಶ್ಚ by servants, ಪರಿವಾರಿತಃ surrounded, ಏಕಃ alone, ಮೃಷ್ಟಮ್ delicacies, ಅಶ್ನಾತು will partake.

May the one who counselled the exile of my esteemed brother acquire the sin in the same way as one who, although surrounded by wife, children and servants, eats the delicacies all alone without sharing acquires.
ಅಪ್ರಾಪ್ಯ ಸದೃಶಾನ್ ದಾರಾನನಪತ್ಯಃ ಪ್ರಮೀಯತಾಮ್.

ಅನವಾಪ್ಯ ಕ್ರಿಯಾಂ ಧರ್ಮ್ಯಾಂ ಯಸ್ಯಾರ್ಯೋನುಮತೇ ಗತಃ৷৷2.75.35৷৷


ಆರ್ಯಃ esteemed one, ಯಸ್ಯ whose, ಅನುಮತೇ with sanction, ಗತಃ exiled, that man, ಸದೃಶಾನ್ worthy, ದಾರಾನ್ wife, ಅಪ್ರಾಪ್ಯ without getting, ಅನಪತ್ಯಃ without begetting offspring, ಧರ್ಮ್ಯಾಮ್ religious, ಕ್ರಿಯಾಮ್ deeds, ಅನವಾಪ್ಯ without performing, ಪ್ರಮೀಯತಾಮ್ let him die.

May the one who counselled the exile of my esteemed brother die without winning a worthy wife and without begetting offspring and without performing religious deeds!
ಮಾತ್ಮನಸ್ಸನ್ತತಿಂ ದ್ರಾಕ್ಷೀತ್ಸ್ವೇಷು ದಾರೇಷು ದುಃಖಿತಃ.

ಆಯುಸ್ಸಮಗ್ರಮಪ್ರಾಪ್ಯ ಯಸ್ಯಾರ್ಯೋನುಮತೇ ಗತಃ৷৷2.75.36৷৷


ಆರ್ಯಃ esteemed one, ಯಸ್ಯ whose, ಅನುಮತೇ with sanction, ಗತಃ exiled, that man, ಸಮಗ್ರಮ್ entire, ಆಯುಃ life, ಅಪ್ರಾಪ್ಯ begetting, ದುಃಖಿತಃ anguished, ಸ್ವೇಷು relating to him, ದಾರೇಷು in wife, ಆತ್ಮನಃ his own, ಸನ್ತತಿಮ್ children, ಮಾ ದ್ರಾಕ್ಷೀತ್ will not see.

May the one who counselled the exile of my esteemed brother live an entire life of anguish without begetting children through his wife or without seeing his own children!
ರಾಜಸ್ತ್ರೀಬಾಲವೃದ್ಧಾನಾಂ ವಧೇ ಯತ್ಪಾಪಮುಚ್ಯತೇ.

ರಾಜಸ್ತ್ರೀಬಾಲವೃದ್ಧಾನಾಮ್ of the king, woman, children and the aged, ವಧೇ kills, ಯತ್ ಪಾಪಮ್ whatever sin, ಉಚ್ಯತೇ is mentioned in scriptures, ಭೃತ್ಯತ್ಯಾಗೇ ಚ desertion of the dependents as well, ಯತ್ ಪಾಪಮ್ whatever sin, ತತ್ (ಪಾಪಂ) such (sin), ಪ್ರತಿಪದ್ಯತಾಮ್ be obtained.

May the one who counselled the exile of my esteemed brother acquire the same sin as one acquires for murdering a king, a woman, children and the aged and deserting dependents!
ಲಾಕ್ಷಯಾ ಮಧುಮಾಂಸೇನ ಲೋಹೇನ ಚ ವಿಷೇಣ ಚ.

ಸದೈವ ಬಿಭೃಯಾದ್ಭೃತ್ಯಾನ್ಯಸ್ಯಾರ್ಯೋನುಮತೇ ಗತಃ৷৷2.75.38৷৷


ಆರ್ಯಃ esteemed one, ಯಸ್ಯ whose, ಅನುಮತೇ with sanction, ಗತಃ exiled, that man, ಸದೈವ always, ಭೃತ್ಯಾನ್ dependant wife and children, ಲಾಕ್ಷಯಾ in lac, ಮಧು ಮಾಂಸೇನ in wine and meat, ಲೋಹೇನ in metal, ವಿಷೇಣ ಚ and in poison, ಬಿಭೃಯಾತ್ supports.

May the one who counselled the exile of my esteemed brother acquire the same sin as one who supports his wife and children by trafficking in lac, wine, meat and metal and poison acquires!
ಸಙ್ಗ್ರಮೇ ಸಮುಪೋಢೇ ಸ್ಮ ಶತ್ರುಪಕ್ಷಭಯಙ್ಕರೇ.

ಪಲಾಯಾಮಾನೋ ವಧ್ಯೇತ ಯಸ್ಯಾರ್ಯೋನುಮತೇ ಗತಃ৷৷2.75.39৷৷


ಆರ್ಯಃ esteemed one, ಯಸ್ಯ whose, ಅನುಮತೇ with sanction, ಗತಃ exiled, ಸಃ that man, ಶತ್ರುಪಕ್ಷಭಯಙ್ಕರೇ ಸಙ್ಗ್ರಮೇ in war, ಸಮುಪೋಢೇ when at its peak, ಪಲಾಯಮಾನಃ feeling, ವಧ್ಯೇತ be slain.

May the one who counselled the exile of my esteemed brother acquire the same sin like a warrior, dreadful to the enemy side who will be slain while fleeing from the war at its peak!
ಕಪಾಲಪಾಣಿಃ ಪೃಥಿವೀಮಟತಾಂ ಚೀರಸಂವೃತಃ.

ಭಿಕ್ಷಮಾಣೋ ಯಥೋನ್ಮತ್ತೋ ಯಸ್ಯಾರ್ಯೋನುಮತೇ ಗತಃ৷৷2.75.40৷৷

May the one who counselled the exile of my esteemed brother, wander this earth, begging alms, holding a human skull like an insane man dressed in rags!
ಮದ್ಯೇ ಪ್ರಸಕ್ತೋ ಭವತು ಸ್ತ್ರೀಷ್ವಕ್ಷೇಷು ಚ ನಿತ್ಯಶಃ.

ಕಾಮಕ್ರೋಧಾಭಿಭೂತಸ್ತು ಯಸ್ಯಾರ್ಯೋನುಮತೇ ಗತಃ৷৷2.75.41৷৷


ಆರ್ಯಃ esteemed one, ಯಸ್ಯ whose, ಅನುಮತೇ with sanction, ಗತಃ exiled, that man, ನಿತ್ಯಶಃ always, ಮದ್ಯೇ in wine, ಸ್ತ್ರೀಷು in women, ಅಕ್ಷೇಷು ಚ in dice for gambling, ಪ್ರಸಕ್ತಃ addicted, ಕಾಮಕ್ರೋಧಾಭಿಭೂತಃ ಭವತು shall be prevailed over by passion and anger.

May the one who counselled the exile of my esteemed brother be always addicted to wine, women and gambling and be swayed by desire and anger!
ಮಾಸ್ಮ ಧರ್ಮೇ ಮನೋ ಭೂಯಾದಧರ್ಮಂ ಸ ನಿಷೇವತಾಮ್.

ಅಪಾತ್ರವರ್ಷೀ ಭವತು ಯಸ್ಯಾರ್ಯೋನುಮತೇ ಗತಃ৷৷2.75.42৷৷


ಆರ್ಯಃ esteemed one, ಯಸ್ಯ whose, ಅನುಮತೇ with sanction, ಗತಃ exiled, ಅಸ್ಯ his, ಮನಃ mind, ಧರ್ಮೇ in virtue, ಮಾ ಭೂಯಾತ್ shall not stay, ಸಃ he, ಅಧರ್ಮೇ in unrighteousness, ನಿಷೇವತಾಮ್ will practise, ಅಪಾತ್ರವರ್ಷೀ ಭವತು shall confer charity on the unworthy.

May the mind of that man who counselled the exile of my esteemed brother not be established in virtue! May he practise unrighteousness and confer charity on the unworthy!
ಸಞ್ಚಿತಾನ್ಯಸ್ಯ ವಿತ್ತನಿ ವಿವಿಧಾನಿ ಸಹಸ್ರಶಃ.

ದಸ್ಯುಭಿರ್ವಿಪ್ರಲುಪ್ಯನ್ತಾಂ ಯಸ್ಯಾರ್ಯೋನುಮತೇ ಗತಃ৷৷2.75.43৷৷


ಆರ್ಯಃ esteemed one, ಯಸ್ಯ whose, ಅನುಮತೇ with sanction, ಗತಃ exiled, ಅಸ್ಯ for that man's, ಸಹಸ್ರಶಃ in thousands, ಸಞ್ಚಿತಾನಿ accumulated, ವಿವಿಧಾನಿ ವಿತ್ತಾನಿ various, possessions of wealth, ದಸ್ಯುಭಿಃ by thieves, ವಿಪ್ರಲುಪ್ಯನ್ತಾಮ್ be snatched away.

May that man's accumulated extensive posssessions of various kinds of wealth be snatched away by thieves in thousands of ways if he had counselled the exile of my esteemed brother!
ಉಭೇ ಸನ್ಧ್ಯೇ ಶಯಾನಸ್ಯ ಯತ್ಪಾಪಂ ಪರಿಕಲ್ಪ್ಯತೇ.

ತಚ್ಚಪಾಪಂ ಭವೇತ್ತಸ್ಯ ಯಸ್ಯಾರ್ಯೋನುಮತೇ ಗತಃ৷৷2.75.44৷৷


ಆರ್ಯಃ esteemed one, ಯಸ್ಯ whose, ಅನುಮತೇ with sanction, ಗತಃ exiled, ತಸ್ಯ for that man, ಉಭೇ ಸನ್ಧ್ಯೇ at the twilight hour of dawn and dusk, ಶಯಾನಸ್ಯ sleeping, ಯತ್ ಪಾಪಮ್ the extent of sin, ಪರಿಕಲ್ಪ್ಯತೇ is fixed, ತತ್ ಪಾಪಮ್ that sin, ಭವೇತ್ shall be.

May the one who counselled the exile of my esteemed brother acquire the extent of demerit fixed for a person, who sleeps at the hour of twilight of dawn and dusk!

ಅಗ್ನಿದಾಯಕೇ one who sets fire to human settlements, ಯತ್ ಪಾಪಮ್ sin of such act, ಗುರುತಲ್ಪಗೇ violation of the preceptor's bed, ಯತ್ ಪಾಪಮ್ sin of such act, ಮಿತ್ರದ್ರೋಹೇ betraying a friend, ಯತ್ ಪಾಪಮ್ sin of such act, ತತ್ ಪಾಪಮ್ sin of that act, ಪ್ರತಿಪದ್ಯತಾಮ್ be obtained.

May that one who counselled the exile of my esteemed brother acquire the sin in the same way as a person who sets fire to human settlements, violates the preceptors's bed and betrays his friend!
ದೇವತಾನಾಂ ಪಿತ್ರೂಣಾಂ ಚ ಮಾತಾಪಿತ್ರೋಸ್ತಥೈವ ಚ.

May the one who counselled the exile of my esteemed brother, acquire the sin in the same way as a person who fails to show obedience to the gods and the ancestors and to serve his parents!
ಸತಾಂ ಲೋಕಾತ್ಸತಾಂ ಕೀರ್ತ್ಯಾ ಸ್ಸಞ್ಜುಷ್ಟಾತ್ಕರ್ಮಣಸ್ತಥಾ.

ಆರ್ಯಃ esteemed one, ಯಸ್ಯ whose, ಅನುಮತೇ with sanction, ಗತಃ exiled, that person, ಅದ್ಯೈವ now, ಕ್ಷಿಪ್ರಮ್ this very moment, ಸತಾಮ್ virtuous men's, ಲೋಕಾತ್ from the world, ಸತಾಮ್ virtuous men's, ಕೀರ್ತ್ಯಾಃ from renown, ತಥಾ and, ಸಞ್ಜುಷ್ಟಾತ್ approved by virtuous men, ಕರ್ಮಣಃ from actions, ಭ್ರಶ್ಯತು be expelled.

May the one who counselled the exile of my esteemed brother be expelled this very moment from the world approved by virtuous men, from their renown and from their (noble) actions!
ಅಪಾಸ್ಯ ಮಾತೃಶುಶ್ರೂಷಾಮನರ್ಥೇ ಸೋವತಿಷ್ಠತಾಮ್.

ದೀರ್ಘಬಾಹುಃ long-armed, ಮಹಾವಕ್ಷಾಃ broad-chested, ಆರ್ಯಃ esteemed one, ಯಸ್ಯ whose, ಅನುಮತೇ with sanction, ಗತಃ exiled, ಸಃ that person, ಮಾತೃಶುಶ್ರೂಷಾಮ್ ministration to mother, ಅಪಾಸ್ಯ abdicating, ಅನರ್ಥೇ without purpose, ಅವತಿಷ್ಠತಾಮ್ shall remain.

The one who counselled the exile of my noble, long-armed and broad-chested brother be banished like the one who commited the sin of leaving the ministration to his mother and engaging himself in purposeless acts!
ಬಹುಪುತ್ರೋ ದರಿದ್ರಶ್ಚ ಜ್ವರರೋಗಸಮನ್ವಿತಃ.

ಸ ಭೂಯಾತ್ಸತತ ಕ್ಲೇಶೀ ಯಸ್ಯಾರ್ಯೋನುಮತೇ ಗತಃ৷৷2.75.49৷৷

ರಾಜ್ಞೋ ಭೀತಸ್ತ್ವಧರ್ಮಾತ್ಮಾ ಯಸ್ಯಾರ್ಯೋನುಮತೇ ಗತಃ৷৷2.75.51৷৷


ಆರ್ಯಃ esteemed one, ಯಸ್ಯ whose, ಅನುಮತೇ with sanction, ಗತಃ exiled, that person, ಪರುಷಃ abusive, ಪಿಶುನಃ niggardly, ಅಶುಚಿಃ impure, ಅಧರ್ಮಾತ್ಮಾ unrighteous, ನಿತ್ಯಮ್ always, ರಾಜ್ಞಃ from the king, ಭೀತಃ afraid of, ಮಾಯಯಾ by deceit, ರಮತಾಮ್ will entertain his life.

conception, ಋತುಸ್ನಾತಾಮ್ a woman who bathed after menstruation,ಸತೀಮ್ chaste woman, ಭಾರ್ಯಾಮ್ wife, ಅತಿವರ್ತೇತ may neglect.

May the one who counselled the exile of my esteemed brother acquire the sin in the same way as a wicked-minded person who neglects his chaste wife observing the menstrual period unfavourable for conception and had bathed after menstruation acquires!
ಸಧರ್ಮದಾರಾನ್ಪರಿತ್ಯಜ್ಯ ಪರದಾರಾನ್ನಿಷೇವತಾಮ್.

ತ್ಯಕ್ತಧರ್ಮರತಿರ್ಮೂಢೋ ಯಸ್ಯಾರ್ಯೋನುಮತೇ ಗತಃ৷৷2.75.53৷৷


ಆರ್ಯಃ esteemed one, ಯಸ್ಯ whose, ಅನುಮತೇ with sanction, ಗತಃ exiled, that person ಮೂಢಃ foolish one, ತ್ಯಕ್ತಧರ್ಮರತಿಃ abandoned righteous conduct, ಧರ್ಮದಾರಾನ್ rightfully married wife, ಪರಿತ್ಯಜ್ಯ having forsaken, ಪರದಾರಾನ್ other's wife, ನಿಷೇವತಾಮ್ may resort.

May the one who counselled the exile of my esteemed brother acquire the sin in the same way a foolish person who abandons righteous conduct and forsakes his rightfully married wife and resorts to other man's wife acquires!
ವಿಪ್ರಲುಪ್ತಪ್ರಜಾತಸ್ಯ ದುಷ್ಕೃತಂ ಬ್ರಾಹ್ಮಣಸ್ಯ ಯತ್.

ತದೇವ ಪ್ರತಿಪದ್ಯೇತ ಯಸ್ಯಾರ್ಯೋನುಮತೇ ಗತಃ৷৷2.75.54৷৷


ಆರ್ಯಃ esteemed one, ಯಸ್ಯ whose, ಅನುಮತೇ with sanction, ಗತಃ exiled, ವಿಪ್ರಲುಪ್ತಪ್ರಜಾತಸ್ಯ lacking in children, ಬ್ರಾಹ್ಮಣಸ್ಯ to brahmin, ಯತ್ ದುಷ್ಕೃತಮ್ that demerit, ತದೇವ the same, ಪ್ರತಿಪದ್ಯತಾಮ್ shall obtain.

May the one who counselled the exile of my esteemed brother acquire the same sin like that of a low-bred brahmin who commits an irreversible sin acquires!
ಪಾನೀಯದೂಷಕೇ ಪಾಪಂ ತಥೈವ ವಿಷದಾಯಕೇ.

ಯತ್ತದೇಕಸ್ಸ ಲಭತಾಂ ಯಸ್ಯಾರ್ಯೋನುಮತೇ ಗತಃ৷৷2.75.55৷৷


ಆರ್ಯಃ esteemed one, ಯಸ್ಯ whose, ಅನುಮತೇ with sanction, ಗತಃ exiled, ಸಃ that person, ಏಕಃ only alone, ಪಾನೀಯದೂಷಕೇ in the case of a man who pollutes drinking water, ತಥೈವ similarly, ವಿಷದಾಯಕೇ administers poison to others, ಯತ್ ಪಾಪಮ್ such sin, ಲಭತಾಮ್ will obtain.

May the sin of polluting drinking water and administering poison to others be put together and be incurred by the man who counselled the exile of my esteemed brother!
ಬ್ರಾಹ್ಮಣಾಯೋದ್ಯತಾಂ ಪೂಜಾಂ ವಿಹನ್ತು ಕಲುಷೇನ್ದ್ರಿಯಃ.

ಬಾಲವತ್ಸಾಂ ಚ ಗಾಂ ದೋಗ್ಧು ಯಸ್ಯಾರ್ಯೋ ನುಮತೇ ಗತಃ৷৷2.75.56৷৷


ಆರ್ಯಃ esteemed one, ಯಸ್ಯ whose, ಅನುಮತೇ with sanction, ಗತಃ exiled, (ಸಃ that person), ಕಲುಷೇನ್ದ್ರಿಯಃ with befouled senses, ಬ್ರಾಹ್ಮಣಾಯ to a brahmin, ಉದ್ಯತಾಮ್ kept ready, ಪೂಜಾಮ್ offerings of worship, ವಿಹನ್ತು may disturb, ಬಾಲವತ್ಸಾಮ್ having a young calf, ಗಾಮ್ cow, ದೋಗ್ಧು may milk.

May the one who counselled the exile of my esteemed brother acquire the sin in the same way a person with befouled senses disturbs the offerings of worship kept ready for a brahmin and milks the cow having a young calf acquires.
ತುರ್ಷ್ಣಾರ್ತಂ ಸತಿ ಪಾನೀಯೇ ವಿಪ್ರಲಮ್ಭೇನ ಯೋಜಯೇತ್.

ಲಭೇತ ತಸ್ಯ ಯತ್ಪಾಪಂ ಯಸ್ಯಾರ್ಯೋನುಮತೇ ಗತಃ৷৷2.75.57৷৷


ಆರ್ಯಃ esteemed one, ಯಸ್ಯ whose, ಅನುಮತೇ with sanction, ಗತಃ exiled, (ಸಃ that person), ಪಾನೀಯೇ water, ಸತಿ existing, ತೃಷ್ಣಾರ್ತಮ್ thirsty one, ವಿಪ್ರಲಮ್ಭೇನ by deceipt, ಯೋಜಯೇತ್ arranges, ತಸ್ಯ to him, ಯತ್ ಪಾಪಮ್ whatever sin, ಲಭೇತ will result.

May the one who counselled the exile of my esteemed brother acquire the sin in the same way a person who in possession of water does not give it to one suffering from
thirst acquires it!
ಭಕ್ತ್ಯಾ ವಿವದಮಾನೇಷು ಮಾರ್ಗಮಾಶ್ರಿತ್ಯ ಪಶ್ಯತಃ.

ತಸ್ಯ ಪಾಪೇನ ಯುಜ್ಯೇತ ಯಸ್ಯಾರ್ಯೋನುಮತೇ ಗತಃ৷৷2.75.58৷৷


ಆರ್ಯಃ esteemed one, ಯಸ್ಯ whose, ಅನುಮತೇ with sanction, ಗತಃ exiled, ಭಕ್ತ್ಯಾ by loyalty (to two religious factions), ವಿವದಮಾನೇಷು while disputing, ಮಾರ್ಗಮ್ one line of argument, ಆಶ್ರಿತ್ಯ taking shelter, ಪಶ್ಯತಃ seeing, ತಸ್ಯ to him, ಪಾಪೇನ by such sin, ಯುಜ್ಯೇತ will apply.

May that one who counselled the exile of my esteemed brother acquire the sin in the same way a person acquires while giving one-sided judgement between divided religious disputants!
ವಿಹೀನಾಂ ಪತಿಪುತ್ರಾಭ್ಯಾಂ ಕೌಸಲ್ಯಾಂ ಪಾರ್ಥಿವಾತ್ಮಜಃ.

ಏವಮಾಶ್ವಾಸಯನ್ನೇವ ದುಃಖಾರ್ತೋ ನಿಪಪಾತ ಹ৷৷2.75.59৷৷


ಪಾರ್ಥಿವಾತ್ಮಜಃ king's son, Bharata, ಪತಿಪುತ್ರಾಭ್ಯಾಮ್ of husband and son, ವಿಹೀನಾಮ್ deprived of, ಕೌಶಲ್ಯಾಮ್ Kausalya, ಏವಮ್ in this way, ಆಶ್ವಾಸಯನ್ನೇವ while appeasing, ದುಃಖಾರ್ತಃ filled with grief, ನಿಪಪಾತ ಹ fell down at her feet.

While thus appeasing Kausalya deprived of her husband and son, Bharata, filled with grief, fell down at her feet.
ತಥಾ ತು ಶಪಥೈಃ ಕಷ್ಟೈ ಶ್ಶಪಮಾನಮಚೇತನಮ್.

ಭರತಂ ಶೋಕಸನ್ತಪ್ತಂ ಕೌಸಲ್ಯಾ ವಾಕ್ಯಮಬ್ರವೀತ್৷৷2.75.60৷৷


ತಥಾ in this manner, ಕಷ್ಟೈಃ by painful, ಶಪಥೈಃ on oaths, ಶಪಮಾನಮ್ swearing, ಅಚೇತನಮ್ lying unconscious, ಶೋಕಸನ್ತಪ್ತಮ್ consumed with grief, ಭರತಮ್ Bharata, ಕೌಶಲ್ಯಾ Kausalya, ವಾಕ್ಯಮ್ these words, ಅಬ್ರವೀತ್ said.

Kausalya said these words to Bharata who fell unconscious, consumed with grief, while swearing on painful oaths.
ಮಮ ದುಃಖಮಿದಂ ಪುತ್ರ! ಭೂಯಸ್ಸಮುಪಜಾಯತೇ.

ಶಪಥೈ ಶ್ಶಪಮಾನೋ ಹಿ ಪ್ರಾಣಾನುಪರುಣತ್ಸಿ ಮೇ৷৷2.75.61৷৷


ಪುತ್ರ! son, ಮಮ to me, ಇದಂ ದುಃಖಮ್ this suffering, ಭೂಯಃ still more, ಸಮುಪಜಾಯತೇ is growing, ಶಪಥೈಃ by oaths, ಶಪಮಾನಃ swearing, ಮೇ my, ಪ್ರಾಣಾನ್ life, ಉಪರುಣತ್ಸಿ ಹಿ you are obstructing (choking).

O son! by swearing on oaths, you are choking the very breath of my life and my suffering has grown still more.
ದಿಷ್ಟ್ಯಾ ನ ಚಲಿತೋ ಧರ್ಮಾದಾತ್ಮಾ ತೇ ಸಹಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಣಃ.

ವತ್ಸ! ಸತ್ಯಪ್ರತಿಜ್ಞೋ ತೇ ಸತಾಂ ಲೋಕಮವಾಪ್ಸ್ಯಸಿ৷৷2.75.62৷৷


ವತ್ಸ O dear child, ದಿಷ್ಟ್ಯಾ fortunately, ತೇ your, ಆತ್ಮಾ mind, ಧರ್ಮಾತ್ form righteousness, ನ ಚಲಿತಃ unswerved, ಸತ್ಯಪ್ರತಿಜ್ಞಃ truthful to promise, ಸಹಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಣಃ with Lakshmana, ಸತಾಮ್ virtuous men's, ಲೋಕಮ್ world, ಅವಾಪ್ಸ್ಯಸಿ you shall attain.

O dear child, fortunately your mind is unswerved from righteousness. You being truthful to your promise shall attain the world of virtuous men along with Lakshmana.
ಇತ್ಯುಕ್ತ್ವಾ ಚಾಙ್ಕಮಾನೀಯ ಭರತಂ ಭ್ರಾತೃವತ್ಸಲಮ್.

ಪರಿಷ್ವಜ್ಯ ಮಹಾಬಾಹುಂ ರುರೋದ ಭೃಶದುಃಖಿತಾ৷৷2.75.63৷৷


ಭ್ರಾತೃವತ್ಸಲಮ್ a man affectionate towards his brothr, ಭರತಮ್ addressing Bharata, ಇತಿ thus , ಉಕ್ತ್ವಾ having said, ಅಙ್ಕಮ್ on her lap, ಆನೀಯ drawing into, ಮಹಾಬಾಹುಮ್ mighty-armed one, ಪರಿಷ್ವಜ್ಯ hugged, ಭೃಶದುಃಖಿತಾ with extreme grief, ರುರೋದ cried out.

After having addressed Bharata, who was affectionate towards his brother that way, Kausalya drew the mighty-armed one onto her lap and hugged him and cried out with extreme grief.
ಏವಂ ವಿಲಪಮಾನಸ್ಯ ದುಃಖಾರ್ತಸ್ಯ ಮಹಾತ್ಮನಃ.

ಮೋಹಾಚ್ಚ ಶೋಕಸಮ್ರೋಧಾದ್ಬಭೂವ ಲುಲಿತಂ ಮನಃ৷৷2.75.64৷৷


ಏವಮ್ in this way, ವಿಲಪಮಾನಸ್ಯ while lamenting, ದುಃಖಾರ್ತಸ್ಯ afflicted by sorrow, ಮಹಾತ್ಮನಃ great
Bharata's, ಮನಃ mind, ಮೋಹಾಚ್ಚ due to swooning, ಶೋಕಸಮ್ರೋಧಾತ್ due to being besieged by grief, ಲುಲಿತಮ್ ಬಭೂವ became unsteady.

Afflicted by sorrow and lamenting thus, great Bharata's mind became unsteady owing to swooning and besieged by grief.
ಲಾಲಪ್ಯಮಾನಸ್ಯ ವಿಚೇತನಸ್ಯ ಪ್ರಣಷ್ಟಬುದ್ಧೇ: ಪತಿತಸ್ಯ ಭೂಮೌ.

ಮುಹುರ್ಮುಹುರ್ನಿಶ್ಶ್ವಸತಶ್ಚ ಘರ್ಮಂ ಸಾ ತಸ್ಯ ಶೋಕೇನ ಜಗಾಮ ರಾತ್ರಿಃ৷৷2.75.65৷৷


ಲಾಲಪ್ಯಮಾನಸ್ಯ lamenting, ವಿಚೇತನಸ್ಯ having lost the senses, ಪ್ರಣಷ್ಟಬುದ್ಧೇ: with obscured mind, ಭೂಮೌ on the ground, ಪತಿತಸ್ಯ one having fallen down, ಮುಹುರ್ಮುಹುಃ again and again, ಘರ್ಮಮ್ warm, ನಿಃಶ್ವಸತಃ heaving deep sighs, ತಸ್ಯ to that Bharata, ರಾತ್ರಿಃ that night, ಶೋಕೇನ in grief, ಜಗಾಮ passed off.

That night passed off in grief for Bharata, who fell on the ground with his mind clouded and his senses lost. He lamented again and again, heaving deep, warm sighs.
ಇತ್ಯಾರ್ಷೇ ಶ್ರೀಮದ್ರಾಮಾಯಣೇ ವಾಲ್ಮೀಕೀಯ ಆದಿಕಾವ್ಯೇ ಅಯೋಧ್ಯಾಕಾಣ್ಡೇ ಪಞ್ಚಸಪ್ತತಿತಮಸ್ಸರ್ಗಃ৷৷
Thus ends the seventyfifth sarga in Ayodhyakanda of the holy Ramayana, the first epic composed by sage Valmiki.
