[Bharadwaja extends elaborate hospitality to Bharata and his entourage --- Invokes Visvakarma to make necessary arrangements.]

ಕೃತಬುದ್ಧಿಂ ನಿವಾಸಾಯ ತತ್ರೈವ ಸ ಮುನಿಸ್ತದಾ.

ಭರತಂ ಕೈಕಯೀಪುತ್ರಮಾತಿಥ್ಯೇನನ್ಯಮನ್ತ್ರಯತ್৷৷2.91.1৷৷


ಸಃ that, ಮುನಿಃ sage (Bharadwaja), ತದಾ then, ತತ್ರೈವ there itself, ನಿವಾಸಾಯ to stay, ಕೃತಬುದ್ಧಿಮ್ having resolved, ಕೈಕಯೀಪುತ್ರಮ್ Kaikeyi's son, ಭರತಮ್ Bharata, ಆತಿಥ್ಯೇನ with hospitality, ನ್ಯಮನ್ತ್ರಯತ್ invited.

With the decision of Bharata, son of Kaikeyi, to stay there for the night, sage Bharadwaja extended to him all hospitality.
ಅಬ್ರವೀದ್ಭರತಸ್ತ್ವೇನಂ ನನ್ವಿದಂ ಭವತಾ ಕೃತಮ್.

ಪಾದ್ಯಮರ್ಘ್ಯಂ ತಥಾತಿಥ್ಯಂ ವನೇ ಯದುಪಪದ್ಯತೇ৷৷2.91.2৷৷


ಭರತಸ್ತು as for Bharata, ಏನಮ್ to him, ಅಬ್ರವೀತ್ said, ಭವತಾ by you, ಪಾದ್ಯಮ್ water for washing the feet with, ಅರ್ಘ್ಯಮ್ welcome offering, ತಥಾ also, ವನೇ in the forest, ಯತ್ whichever, ಉಪಪದ್ಯತೇ is available, ಇದಮ್ this, ಆತಿಥ್ಯಮ್ hospitality, ಕೃತಂ ನನು has been made.

Bharata said to Bharadwaja, You have already extended the hospitality in offering water for washing the feet with and of arghya befitting a guest as available in the forest.
ಅಥೋವಾಚ ಭರದ್ವಾಜೋ ಭರತಂ ಪ್ರಹಸನ್ನಿವ.

ಜಾನೇ ತ್ವಾಂ ಪ್ರೀತಿಸಂಯುಕ್ತಂ ತುಷ್ಯೇಸ್ತ್ವಂ ಯೇನ ಕೇನಚಿತ್৷৷2.91.3৷৷


ಅಥ then, ಭರದ್ವಾಜಃ Bharadwaja, ಪ್ರಹಸನ್ನಿವ with a gentle smile, ಭರತಮ್ to Bharata, ಉವಾಚ said, ತ್ವಾಮ್ you, ಪ್ರೀತಿಸಂಯುಕ್ತಮ್ are full of love, ಜಾನೇ I know, ತ್ವಾಮ್ you, ಯೇನ ಕೇನ ಚಿತ್ with whatever
offered, ತುಷ್ಯೇಃ are contented.

Bharadwaja then said to Bharata with a gentle smile, I know you are full of love and content with whatever is offered you.
ಸೇನಾಯಾಸ್ತು ತವೈತಸ್ಯಾಃ ಕರ್ತುಮಿಚ್ಛಾಮಿ ಭೋಜನಮ್.

ಮಮ ಪ್ರೀತಿರ್ಯಥಾರೂಪಾ ತಥಾರ್ಹೋ ಮನುಜರ್ಷಭ৷৷2.91.4৷৷


ಮನುಜರ್ಷಭ best among mortals, ತವ your, ಏತಸ್ಯಾಃ for all the, ಸೇನಾಯಾಃ the army men, ಭೋಜನಮ್ food, ಕರ್ತುಮ್ I am to offer, ಇಚ್ಛಾಮಿ wish, ಮಮ my, ಪ್ರೀತಿಃ pleasure, ಯಥಾ ರೂಪಾ in whatever way, ತಥಾ accordingly, ಅರ್ಹಃ worthy of.

O Bharata, the best of men, I want to treat your army with food. This will please me and I hope you will act accordingly.
ಕಿಮರ್ಥಂ ಚಾಪಿ ನಿಕ್ಷಿಪ್ಯ ದೂರೇ ಬಲಮಿಹಾಗತಃ.

ಕಸ್ಮಾನ್ನೇಹೋಪಯಾತೋಸಿ ಸಬಲಃ ಪುರುಷರ್ಷಭಃ৷৷2.91.5৷৷


ಪುರುಷರ್ಷಭಃ best of men, ಕಿಮರ್ಥಮ್ for what reason, ಬಲಮ್ army, ದೂರೇ at a distance, ನಿಕ್ಷಿಪ್ಯ having stationed, ಇಹ here, ಆಗತಃ you have come, ಇಹ here, ಸಬಲಃ with your army, ಕಸ್ಮಾತ್ why, ನ ಉಪಯಾತಃ ಅಸಿ not come with.

Why did you, O Bharata, the best of men, station your army at a distance before coming here? Could you not approach me along with your army?
ಭರತಃ ಪ್ರತ್ಯುವಾಚೇದಂ ಪ್ರಾಞ್ಜಲಿಸ್ತಂ ತಪೋಧನಮ್.

ಸಸೈನ್ಯೋ ನೋಪಯಾತೋಸ್ಮಿ ಭಗವನ್ಭಗವದ್ಭಯಾತ್৷৷2.91.6৷৷


ಭರತಃ Bharata, ಪ್ರಾಞ್ಜಲಿಃ with folded palms (in reverence), ತಪೋಧನಮ್ who has benance as his wealth (sage), ತಮ್ him, ಇದಮ್ this, ಪ್ರತ್ಯುವಾಚ replied, ಭಗವನ್ O venerable one, ಭಗವದ್ಭಯಾತ್ for fear of you, ಸಸೈನ್ಯಃ with army, ನೋಪಯಾತೋಸ್ಮಿ did not approach.

With folded palms (in reverence), Bharata said to sage Bharadwaja whose penance was his wealth: I did not approach you with the army for fear of you, O venerable one.
ರಾಜ್ಞಾ ಚ ಭಗವನ್ನಿತ್ಯಂ ರಾಜಪುತ್ರೇಣ ವಾ ಸದಾ.

ಯತ್ನತಃ ಪರಿಹರ್ತವ್ಯಾ ವಿಷಯೇಷು ತಪಸ್ವಿನಃ৷৷2.91.7৷৷


ಭಗವನ್ O venerable one, ರಾಜ್ಞಾ by the king, ರಾಜಪುತ್ರೇಣ ವಾ or by a king's son, ವಿಷಯೇಷು in places, ಸದಾ always, ತಪಸ್ವಿನಃ of ascetics, ಯತ್ನತಃ intentionally, ಪರಿಹರ್ತವ್ಯಾಃ should be avoided.

O venerable one! a king or a prince ought to intentionally avoid those places occupied by ascetics.
ವಾಜಿಮುಖ್ಯಾ ಮನುಷ್ಯಾಶ್ಚ ಮತ್ತಾಶ್ಚ ವರವಾರಣಾಃ.

ಪ್ರಚ್ಛಾದ್ಯ ಭಗವನ್ಭೂಮಿಂ ಮಹತೀಮನುಯಾನ್ತಿ ಮಾಮ್৷৷2.91.8৷৷


ಭಗವನ್ O Lord, ವಾಜಿಮುಖ್ಯಾಃ spirited horses, ಮನುಷ್ಯಾಶ್ಚ men also, ಮತ್ತಾಃ rutting, ವರವಾರಣಾಶ್ಚ mighty elephants, ಮಹತೀಮ್ wide, ಭೂಮಿಮ್ earth, ಪ್ರಚ್ಛಾದ್ಯ spread over, ಮಾಮ್ me, ಅನುಯಾನ್ತಿ are following.

O venerable sage! spirited horses, men and mighty rutting elephants follow me covering a wide expanse of land.
ತೇ ವೃಕ್ಷಾನುದಕಂ ಭೂಮಿಮಾಶ್ರಮೇಷೂಟಜಾಂ ಸ್ತಥಾ.

ನ ಹಿಂಸ್ಯುರಿತಿ ತೇನಾಹಮೇಕ ಏವ ಸಮಾಗತಃ৷৷2.91.9৷৷


ತೇ they, ಆಶ್ರಮೇಷು in ashrams, ವೃಕ್ಷಾನ್ trees, ಉದಕಮ್ water, ಭೂಮಿಮ್ land, ತಥಾ also, ಉಟಜಾನ್ huts, ನ ಹಿಂಸ್ಯುಃ shall not damage, ಇತಿ so, ತೇನ therefore, ಅಹಮ್ I, ಏಕ ಏವ alone, ಸಮಾಗತಃ came here.

Lest the army should damage the huts, trees, land, and defile the water in the ashram, I came here alone.
ಆನೀಯತಾಮಿತಸ್ಸೇನೇತ್ಯಾಜ್ಞಪ್ತಃ ಪರಮರ್ಷಿಣಾ.

ತತಸ್ತು ಚಕ್ರೇ ಭರತಸ್ಸೇನಾಯಾಸ್ಸಮುಪಾಗಮಮ್৷৷2.91.10৷৷


ತತಸ್ತು all, ಸೇನಾ army, ಇತಃ here, ಅನೀಯತಾಮ್ be brought, ಇತಿ thus, ಪರಮರ್ಷಿಣಾ great sage, ಆಜ್ಞಪ್ತಃ having been commanded, ಭರತಃ Bharata, ಸೇನಾಯಾಃ the army's, ಸಮುಪಾಗಮಮ್ to get, ಚಕ್ರೇ made.

Thus commanded the great ascetic, 'Let the army be brought here'. Accordingly, Bharata ordered the army to come.
ಅಗ್ನಿಶಾಲಾಂ ಪ್ರವಿಶ್ಯಾಥ ಪೀತ್ವಾಪಃ ಪರಿಮೃಜ್ಯ ಚ.

ಆತಿಥ್ಯಸ್ಯ ಕ್ರಿಯಾಹೇತೋರ್ವಿಶ್ವಕರ್ಮಾಣಮಾಹ್ವಯತ್৷৷2.91.11৷৷


ಅಥ then, ಅಗ್ನಿಶಾಲಾಮ್ fire sanctuary, ಪ್ರವಿಶ್ಯ entered, ಆಪಃ water, ಪೀತ್ವಾ sipped, ಪರಿಮೃಜ್ಯ ಚ washing his hands, ಆತಿಥ್ಯಸ್ಯ for the hospitality, ಕ್ರಿಯಾಹೇತೋಃ to provide, ವಿಶ್ವಕರ್ಮಾಣಮ್ to Visvakarma, ಆಹ್ವಯತ್ invoked.

Then Bharadwaja entered the fire sanctuary, sipped water and washed his hands with water and invoked Visvakarma to provide hospitality.
ಆಹ್ವಯೇ ವಿಶ್ವಕರ್ಮಾಣಮಹಂ ತ್ವಷ್ಟಾರಮೇವ ಚ.

ಆತಿಥ್ಯಂ ಕರ್ತುಮಿಚ್ಛಾಮಿ ತತ್ರ ಮೇ ಸಂವಿಧೀಯತಾಮ್৷৷2.91.12৷৷


ಅಹಮ್ I, ಆತಿಥ್ಯಮ್ hospitality, ಕರ್ತುಮ್ to perform, ಇಚ್ಛಾಮಿ am intending, ತ್ವಷ್ಟಾರಮ್ ಏವ ಚ even Tvastara who builds homes, ವಿಶ್ವಕರ್ಮಾಣಮ್ Visvakarma, ಆಹ್ವಯೇ I am invoking, ತತ್ರ in this matter, ಮೇ to me, ಸಂವಿಧೀಯತಾಮ್ things may be arranged.

I intend to provide hospitality for which I am invoking Visvakarma and Tvastara who builds houses. Let adequate arrangements be made.
ಆಹ್ವಯೇ ಲೋಕಪಾಲಾಂಸ್ತ್ರೀನ್ ದೇವಾನ್ ಶಕ್ರಮುಖಾಂಸ್ತಥಾ.

ಆತಿಥ್ಯಂ ಕರ್ತುಮಿಚ್ಛಾಮಿ ತತ್ರ ಮೇ ಸಂವಿಧೀಯತಾಮ್৷৷2.91.13৷৷


ತಥಾ like that, ಶಕ್ರಮುಖಾನ್ Indra in the forefront, ಲೋಕಪಾಲಾನ್ guardians of the (four) quarters, ತ್ರೀನ್ ದೇವಾನ್ three deities, ಆಹ್ವಯೇ I am invoking, ಆತಿಥ್ಯಮ್ hospitality, ಕರ್ತುಮ್ to provide, ಇಚ್ಛಾಮಿ desiring ತತ್ರ in this matter, ಮೇ to me, ಸಂವಿಧೀಯತಾಮ್ arrangements be made.

I invoke the three deities, guardians of the four quarters headed by Indra to extend hospitality (to Bharata). Let them make adequate arrangements in this regard.
ಪ್ರಾಕ್ಸ್ರೋತಸಶ್ಚ ಯಾ ನದ್ಯಃ ಪ್ರತ್ಯಕ್ಸ್ರೋತಸ ಏವ ಚ.

ಪೃಥಿವ್ಯಾಮನ್ತರಿಕ್ಷೇ ಚ ಸಮಾಯಾನ್ತ್ವದ್ಯ ಸರ್ವಶಃ৷৷2.91.14৷৷


ಯಾ ನದ್ಯಃ those revers, ಪೃಥಿವ್ಯಾಮ್ on the earth, ಅನ್ತರಿಕ್ಷೇ in the sky, ಪ್ರಾಕ್ಸ್ರೋತಸಃ flowing towards the east, ಪ್ರತ್ಯಕ್ಸ್ರೋತಸಃ towards the west, ಸರ್ವಶಃ from everywhere, ಅದ್ಯ now, ಸಮಾಯಾನ್ತು may come.

Let the rivers flowing towards the east, and the west, flowing on the earth and in the sky, flowing everywhere reach here and now.
ಅನ್ಯಾ ಸ್ರವನ್ತು ಮೈರೇಯಂ ಸುರಾಮನ್ಯಾಸ್ಸುವಿಷ್ಠಿತಾಮ್.

ಅಪರಾ ಶ್ಚೋದಕಂ ಶೀತಮಿಕ್ಷುಕಾಣ್ಡರಸೋಪಮಮ್৷৷2.91.15৷৷


ಅನ್ಯಾಃ other rivers, ಮೈರೇಯಮ್ intoxicating liquour (made of date-palms), ಸ್ರವನ್ತು let them flow, ಅನ್ಯಾಃ other rivers, ಸುವಿಷ್ಠಿತಾಮ್ well-prepared, ಸುರಾಮ್ wine, ಅಪರಾಶ್ಚ still others, ಇಕ್ಷುಕಾಣ್ಡರಸೋಪಮಮ್ tasting like sugar cane juice, ಶೀತಮ್ cool, ಉದಕಮ್ water, ಸ್ರವನ್ತು let them flow.

Let some rivers flow with liquor made of date-palms, some with well-prepared wine and some with cool water which tastes like sugarcane juice.
ಆಹ್ವಯೇ ದೇವಗನ್ಧರ್ವಾನ್ವಿಶ್ವಾವಸುಹಹಾಹುಹೂನ್.

ತಥೈವಾಪ್ಸರಸೋ ದೇವೀರ್ಗನ್ಧರ್ವೀಶ್ಚಾಪಿ ಸರ್ವಶಃ৷৷2.91.16৷৷


ದೇವಗನ್ಧರ್ವಾನ್ the gandharvas of deities, ವಿಶ್ವಾವಸು Visvavasu, ಹಹಾಹುಹೂನ್ Ha Ha and Hu Hu, ತಥೈವ also, ದೇವೀಃ goddesses, ಗನ್ಧರ್ವೀಶ್ಚಾಪಿ female gandharvas (heavenly musicians), ಅಪ್ಸರಸಃ apsaras (nymphs), ಸರ್ವಶಃ from all regions, ಆಹ್ವಯೇ invoke.

I invoke the gandharvas, Visvavasu, Ha Ha and Hu Hu, and also goddesses like gandharvas (heavenly musicians) and apsaras (nymphs) from all regions.
ಘೃತಾಚೀಮಥ ವಿಶ್ವಾಚೀಂ ಮಿಶ್ರಕೇಶೀಮಲಂಬುಸಾಮ್.

ನಾಗದನ್ತಾಂ ಚ ಹೇಮಾಂ ಚ ಹಿಮಾಮದ್ರಿಕೃತಸ್ಥಲಾಮ್৷৷2.91.17৷৷


ಅಥ also, ಘೃತಾಚೀಮ್ Grutachi, ವಿಶ್ವಾಚೀಮ್ Visvachi, ಮಿಶ್ರಕೇಶೀಮ್ Misrakesi, ಅಲಂಬುಸಾಮ್ Alambusa, ನಾಗದನ್ತಾಂ ಚ Nagadanta, ಹೇಮಾಂ ಚ Hema, ಅದ್ರಿಕೃತಸ್ಥಲಾಮ್ whose abode is on the mountain, ಹಿಮಾಮ್ Hima I am summoning.

I summon also Grutachi, Visvachi, Misrakesi, Alambusa, Nagadantha, Hema and Hima whose abode is on the mountain.
ಶಕ್ರಂ ಯಾಶ್ಚೋಪತಿಷ್ಠನ್ತಿ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮಾಣಂ ಯಾಶ್ಚ ಯೋಷಿತಃ.

ಸರ್ವಾಸ್ತುಮ್ಬುರುಣಾ ಸಾರ್ಧಮಾಹ್ವಯೇ ಸಪರಿಚ್ಛದಾಃ৷৷2.91.18৷৷


ಯಾಶ್ಚ those, ಯೋಷಿತಃ women, ಶಕ್ರಮ್ Indra, ಉಪತಿಷ್ಠನ್ತಿ are serving, ಯಾಶ್ಚ those, ಬ್ರಹ್ಮಾಣಮ್ attending on Bramha, ಸಪರಿಚ್ಛದಾಃ with all their musical instruments, ಸರ್ವಾಃ all, ತುಮ್ಬುರುಣಾ ಸಾರ್ಧಮ್ with their tumbur, ಆಹ್ವಯೇ I am invoking.

I invoke all the women who attend on Indra and Bramha along with tumbur with all their (musical) instruments.
ವನಂ ಕುರುಷು ಯದ್ದಿವ್ಯಂ ವಾಸೋಭೂಷಣಪತ್ರವತ್.

ದಿವ್ಯನಾರೀಫಲಂ ಶಶ್ವತ್ತತ್ಕೌಬೇರಮಿಹೈತು ಚ৷৷2.91.19৷৷


ಕುರುಷು in the land of Kurus, ಶಶ್ವತ್ always, ವಾಸೋಭೂಷಣಪತ್ರವತ್ leaves serving as raiment and
ornaments, ದಿವ್ಯನಾರೀಫಲಮ್ celestial women as fruits, ಕೌಬೇರಮ್ relating to Kubera, ಯತ್ which, ದಿವ್ಯಂ ವನಮ್ divine forest, ತತ್ that, ಇಹ here, ಏತು let it come over.

Let Kubera's divine forest situated in the land of Kurus, where leaves serve as raiment and ornaments and celestial women as its fruits come here.
ಇಹ ಮೇ ಭಗವಾನ್ ಸೋಮೋ ವಿಧತ್ತಾಮನ್ನಮುತ್ತಮಮ್.

ಭಕ್ಷ್ಯಂಭೋಜ್ಯಂ ಚ ಚೋಷ್ಯಂ ಚ ಲೇಹ್ಯಂ ಚ ವಿವಿಧಂ ಬಹು৷৷2.91.20৷৷


ಭಗವಾನ್ the lord, ಸೋಮಃ Moon, ಮೇ for me, ಇಹ here, ಉತ್ತಮಮ್ excellent, ಅನ್ನಮ್ food, ವಿವಿಧಮ್ many kinds, ಬಹು many varieties, ಭಕ್ಷ್ಯಮ್ eatables, ಭೋಜ್ಯಮ್ chewable food, ಚೋಷ್ಯಮ್ food eaten by sucking, ಲೇಹ್ಯಂ ಚ that which is licked, ವಿಧತ್ತಾಮ್ be provided.

Let the blessed Moon furnish me with excellent food of every kind -- solid, liquid, soft and those which are to be sucked and licked in great variety and quantity.
ವಿಚಿತ್ರಾಣಿ ಚ ಮಾಲ್ಯಾನಿ ಪಾದಪಪ್ರಚ್ಯುತಾನಿ ಚ.

ಸುರಾದೀನಿ ಚ ಪೇಯಾನಿ ಮಾಂಸಾನಿ ವಿವಿಧಾನಿ ಚ৷৷2.91.21৷৷


ಪಾದಪಪ್ರಚ್ಯುತಾನಿ those dropped from trees, ವಿಚಿತ್ರಾಣಿ many-coloured, ಮಾಲ್ಯಾನಿ ಚ flower garlands, ಸುರಾದೀನಿ wines and others, ಪೇಯಾನಿ drinks, ವಿವಿಧಾನಿ of different kinds, ಮಾಂಸಾನಿ ಚ meat be furnished.

Let her furnish me with many-coloured garlands of fresh flowers from trees, wines and other drinks and meat of different kinds.
ಏವಂ ಸಮಾಧಿನಾ ಯುಕ್ತಸ್ತೇಜಸಾಪ್ರತಿಮೇನ ಚ.

ಶೀಕ್ಷಾಸ್ವರಸಮಾಯುಕ್ತಂ ತಪಸಾ ಚಾಬ್ರವೀನ್ಮುನಿಃ৷৷2.91.22৷৷


ಸಮಾಧಿನಾ in profound meditation, ಅಪ್ರತಿಮೇನ incomparable, ತೇಜಸಾ ಚ with radiance, ತಪಸಾ ಚ with the power of penance, ಯುಕ್ತಂ filled with, ಮುನಿಃ ascetic, ಶೀಕ್ಷಾಸ್ವರಸಮಾಯುಕ್ತಮ್ with accent in conformity with Vedic instruction, ಏವಮ್ in this way, ಅಬ್ರವೀತ್ said.

The valiant ascetic of incomparable lustre and power of penance in profound meditation said this in an accent in conformity with Vedic instruction.
ಮನಸಾ ಧ್ಯಾಯತಸ್ತಸ್ಯ ಪ್ರಾಙ್ಮುಖಸ್ಯ ಕೃತಾಞ್ಜಲೇಃ.

ಆಜಗ್ಮುಸ್ತಾನಿ ಸರ್ವಾಣಿ ದೈವತಾನಿ ಪೃಥಕ್ಪೃಥಕ್৷৷2.91.23৷৷


ತಸ್ಯ his, ಪ್ರಾಙ್ಮುಖಸ್ಯ facing east, ಕೃತಾಞ್ಜಲೇಃ with folded palms, ಮನಸಾ in mind, ಧ್ಯಾಯತಃ while meditating, ಸರ್ವಾಣಿ all, ತಾನಿ ದೈವತಾನಿ those deities, ಪೃಥಕ್ಪೃಥಕ್ one by one, ಆಜಗ್ಮುಃ arrived.

As Bharadwaja with folded palms was thus meditating with his face turned eastward, all the deities appeared there one by one.
ಮಲಯಂ ದರ್ದುರಂ ಚೈವ ತತಸ್ಸ್ವೇದನುದೋನಿಲಃ.

ಉಪಸ್ಪೃಶ್ಯ ವವೌ ಯುಕ್ತ್ಯಾ ಸುಪ್ರಿಯಾತ್ಮಾ ಸುಖಶ್ಶಿವಃ৷৷2.91.24৷৷


ತತಃ then, ಅನಿಲಃ wind, ಮಲಯಮ್ Malaya hill, ದರ್ದುರಂ ಚೈವ mount Dardura, ಉಪಸ್ಪೃಶ್ಯ having touched, ಯುಕ್ತ್ಯಾ by virtue of contact, ಸುಪ್ರಿಯಾತ್ಮಾ most pleasant, ಸುಖಃ comforting, ಶಿವಃ auspicious, ಸ್ವೇದನುದಃ cooling the sweat, ವವೌ blew.

Meanwhile, soft auspicious and pleasant breeze passing over Malaya and Dardura mountains, comforting and cooling the sweat, began to blow.
ತತೋಭ್ಯವರ್ಷನ್ತ ಘನಾ ದಿವ್ಯಾಃ ಕುಸುಮವೃಷ್ಟಯಃ.

ತತಃ then, ದಿವ್ಯಾಃ celestial, ಕುಸುಮವೃಷ್ಟಯಃ rain of flowers, ಘನಾಃ clouds, ಅಭ್ಯವರ್ಷನ್ತ showered, ಸರ್ವಾಸು in all, ದಿಕ್ಷು directions, ದಿವ್ಯದುನ್ದುಭಿಘೋಷಶ್ಚ sounds of divine musical gongs, ಶುಶ್ರುವೇ could be heard.

Then divine clouds rolled in and showered celestial flowers. The sounds of heavenly gongs could be heard in every direction.
ಪ್ರವವುಶ್ಚೋತ್ತಮಾ ವಾತಾ ನನೃತುಶ್ಚಾಪ್ಸರೋಗಣಾಃ.

ಜಗುಶ್ಚ ದೇವಗನ್ಧರ್ವಾ ವೀಣಾಃ ಪ್ರಮುಮುಚುಸ್ಸ್ವರಾನ್৷৷2.91.26৷৷


ಉತ್ತಮಾಃ gentle, ವಾತಾಶ್ಚ winds, ಪ್ರವವು blew, ಅಪ್ಸರೋಗಣಾಃ troops of apsaras, ನನೃತುಶ್ಚ also danced, ದೇವಗನ್ಧರ್ವಾಃ divine gandharvas, ಜಗುಶ್ಚ sang, ವೀಣಾಃ lyres, ಸ್ವರಾನ್ notes, ಪ್ರಮುಮುಚುಃ issued forth.

Gentle breeze began to blow. Troops of apsaras danced. Gandharvas and gods sang and the lyres rang.
ಸ ಶಬ್ದೋ ದ್ಯಾಂ ಚ ಭೂಮಿಂ ಚ ಪ್ರಾಣಿನಾಂ ಶ್ರವಣಾನಿ ಚ.

ವಿವೇಶೋಚ್ಚರಿತಶ್ಶ್ಲಕ್ಷ್ಣಸ್ಸಮೋ ಲಯಸಮನ್ವಿತಃ৷৷2.91.27৷৷


ಉಚ್ಚರಿತಃ uttered, ಶ್ಲಕ್ಷಣಃ soft melody, ಲಯಸಮನ್ವಿತಃ rhythmic, ಸಮಃ modulation, ಸಃ ಶಬ್ದಃ those sounds, ದ್ಯಾಂ ಚ the sky, ಭೂಮಿಂ ಚ the earth, ಪ್ರಾಣಿನಾಮ್ of all living beings, ಶ್ರವಣಾನಿ ಚ in the ears, ವಿವೇಶ entered.

That soft, melodious, rhythmic and well-modulated sound entered the heaven and earth as well as the ears of all living beings.
ತಸ್ಮಿನ್ನುಪರತೇ ಶಬ್ದೇ ದಿವ್ಯೇ ಶ್ರೋತ್ರ ಸುಖೇ ನೃಣಾಮ್.

ನೃಣಾಮ್ for men, ಶೋತ್ರಸುಖೇ pleasing to the ears, ತಸ್ಮಿನ್ when that, ದಿವ್ಯೇ celestial, ಶಬ್ದೇ sound, ಉಪರತೇ had subsided, ಭಾರತಮ್ relating to Bharata, ಸೈನ್ಯಮ್ army, ವಿಶ್ವಕರ್ಮಣಃ Visvakarma's, ವಿಧಾನಮ್ the creations, ದದರ್ಶ he beheld.

When the celestial sounds pleasing to the ears of men had subsided, the army of Bharata beheld the wonderful creations of Visvakarma.
ಬಭೂವ ಹಿ ಸಮಾ ಭೂಮಿಸ್ಸಮನ್ತಾತ್ಪಞ್ಚಯೋಜನಾ.

ಶಾದ್ವಲೈರ್ಭಹುಭಿಶ್ಚನ್ನಾ ನೀಲವೈಢೂರ್ಯಸನ್ನಿಭೈಃ৷৷2.91.29৷৷


ಸಮನ್ತಾತ್ on every side, ಪಞ್ಚಯೋಜನಾ five yojanas (forty miles), ಭೂಮಿಃ the ground, ಸಮಾ has been levelled, ನೀಲವೈಢೂರ್ಯಸನ್ನಿಭೈಃ with sapphires or gems called cat's-eye (beryl) spread,
ಬಹುಭಿಃ by many, ಶಾದ್ವಲೈಃ grass lawns, ಛನ್ನಾ covered with, ಬಭೂವ ಹಿ became৷৷

The ground was levelled on every side for five yojanas and covered with several grass lawns resembling lapis lazuli (blue sapphire) and cat's eye.
ತಸ್ಮಿನ್ಬಿಲ್ವಾಃ ಕಪಿತ್ಥಾಶ್ಚ ಪನಸಾ ಬೀಜಪೂರಕಾಃ.

ಆಮಲಕ್ಯೋ ಬಭೂವುಶ್ಚ ಚೂತಾಶ್ಚ ಫಲಭೂಷಣಾಃ৷৷2.91.30৷৷


ತಸ್ಮಿನ್ there, ಫಲಭೂಷಣಾಃ fruits as adorenments, ಬಿಲ್ವಾಃ Bilva, ಕಪಿತ್ಥಾಶ್ಚ wood-apple trees, ಪನಸಾಃ jack-fruit trees, ಬೀಜಪೂರಕಾಃ citron trees, ಆಮಲಕ್ಯಃ emblic myrobalan trees, ಚೂತಾಶ್ಚ mango-trees, ಬಭೂವುಃ sprang up.

There the best of fruit-bearing trees like bilva trees, woodapple trees, citrons, emblic myrobalan trees and mango trees laden with fruits sprang up.
ಉತ್ತರೇಭ್ಯಃ ಕುರುಭ್ಯಶ್ಚ ವನಂ ದಿವ್ಯೋಪಭೋಗವತ್.

ಉತ್ತರೇಭ್ಯಃ ಕುರುಭ್ಯಃ from the kingdom of northern Kurus, ದಿವ್ಯೋಪಭೋಗವತ್ with all heavenly delights, ವನಮ್ forest, ಬಹುಭಿಃ by innumerable, ತೀರಜೈಃ trees growing on the banks, ಕೃತಾ surrounded, ದಿವ್ಯಾ divine, ನದೀ river, ಆಜಗಾಮ came into existence.

From the forests of the northern Kuru kingdom, with all delights of heaven, a divine river with innumerable trees that grow on river banks came into existence.

Bright quadrangles, stables for elephants and horses, auspicious arch ways for palaces and mansions sprang up.

ಸಿತಮೇಘನಿಭಮ್ like white clouds, ಸುತೋರಣಮ್ with beautiful archs, ದಿವ್ಯಮಾಲ್ಯಕೃತಾಕಾರಮ್ adorned with fine garlands, ದಿವ್ಯಗನ್ಧಸಮುಕ್ಷಿತಂ sprinkled with celestial perfumes, ಚತುರಶ್ರಮ್ forming a quadrangle, ಅಸಂಬಾಧಮ್ very spacious, ಶಯನಾಸನಯಾನವತ್ furnished with couches, seats and carriages, ದಿವ್ಯೈಃ by the celestial, ಸರ್ವರಸೈಃ with all kinds of drinks, ಯುಕ್ತಮ್ arranged with, ದಿವ್ಯಭೋಜನವಸ್ತ್ರವತ್ with heavenly food and dress, ಉಪಕಲ್ಪಿತಸರ್ವಾನ್ನಂ stocked with food of every variety, ಧೌತನಿರ್ಮಲಭಾಜನಮ್ clean washed pots, ಕ್ಲುಪ್ತಸರ್ವಾಸನಮ್ with seats arranged for every one, ಸ್ವಾಸ್ತೀರ್ಣಶಯನೋತ್ತಮಮ್ with magnificent couches covered with excellent bedstead, ಶ್ರೀಮತ್ auspicious, ರಾಜವೇಶ್ಮಚಾಪಿ a royal palace also sprang up.

An auspicious royal palace with splendid archs resembling white clouds sprang up. It was sprinkled with celestial perfumes and adorned with beautiful garlands. That royal palace forming a quadrangle was furnished with couches, seats and carriages and furnished with celestial drinks of every kind, delicious food and splendid garments. It was stocked with food of every variety in clean and spotless vessels. Seats for every one and magnificent couches covered with excellent bedstead were arranged.
ಪ್ರವಿವೇಶ ಮಹಾಬಾಹುರನುಜ್ಞಾತೋ ಮಹರ್ಷಿಣಾ.

ವೇಶ್ಮ ತದ್ರತ್ನಸಮ್ಪೂರ್ಣಂ ಭರತಃ ಕೈಕಯೀಸುತಃ৷৷2.91.36৷৷


ಮಹಾಬಾಹುಃ long-armed, ಕೈಕಯೀಸುತಃ son of Kaikeyi, ಭರತಃ Bharata, ಮಹರ್ಷಿಣಾ by the great sage,
ಅನುಜ್ಞಾತಃ having been permitted, ರತ್ನಸಮ್ಪೂರ್ಣಮ್ full of jewels, ತತ್ that, ವೇಶ್ಮ house, ಪ್ರವಿವೇಶ entered.

Long-armed Bharata, son of Kaikeyi entered that palace full of jewels with the permission of the great sage.
ಅನುಜಗ್ಮುಶ್ಚ ತಂ ಸರ್ವೇ ಮನ್ತ್ರಿಣಸ್ಸಪುರೋಹಿತಾಃ.

ಬಭೂವುಶ್ಚ ಮುದಾ ಯುಕ್ತಾ ದೃಷ್ಟ್ವಾ ತಂ ವೇಶ್ಮಸಂವಿಧಿಮ್৷৷2.91.37৷৷


ಸಪುರೋಹಿತಾಃ along with priests, ಸರ್ವೇ all, ಮನ್ತ್ರಿಣಃ ministers, ತಮ್ that Bharata, ಅನುಜಗ್ಮುಶ್ಚ followed, ತಮ್ ಸಂವಿಧಿಮ್ that arrangement, ದೃಷ್ಟ್ವಾ having seen all over, ಮುದಾ full of joy, ಯುಕ್ತಾಃ filled with ಬಭೂವುಶ್ಚ became.

All the ministers, priests followed him and were glad to see the arrangement in that mansion.
ತತ್ರ ರಾಜಾಸನಂ ದಿವ್ಯಂ ವ್ಯಜನಂ ಛತ್ರಮೇವ ಚ.

ಭರತೋ ಮನ್ತ್ರಿಭಿಸ್ಸಾರ್ಧಮಭ್ಯವರ್ತತ ರಾಜವತ್৷৷2.91.38৷৷


ಭರತಃ Bharata, ಮನ್ತ್ರಿಭಿಃ ಸಾರ್ಧಂ in the company of ministers, ತತ್ರ there, ದಿವ್ಯಮ್ exquisite, ರಾಜಾಸನಮ್ throne, ವ್ಯಜನಮ್ a fan (of yak's tail), ಛತ್ರಮೇವ ಚ parasol, ರಾಜವತ್ like a king, ಅಭ್ಯವರ್ತತ stayed.

There where stood an exquisite throne, a fan and a parasol Bharata stayed in the company of ministers.
ಆಸನಂ ಪೂಜಯಾಮಾಸ ರಾಮಾಯಾಭಿಪ್ರಣಮ್ಯ ಚ.

ವಾಲವ್ಯಜನಮಾದಾಯ ನ್ಯಷೀದತ್ಸಚಿವಾಸನೇ৷৷2.91.39৷৷


ರಾಮಾಯ to Rama, ಅಭಿಪ್ರಣಮ್ಯ ಚ having bowed in reverence, ಆಸನಮ್ that throne, ಪೂಜಯಾಮಾಸ worshipped, ವಾಲವ್ಯಜನಮ್ fan made of yak's tail, ಆದಾಯ taking hold of, ಸಚಿವಾಸನೇ in a minister's seat, ನ್ಯಷೀದತ್ sat down

He bowed in reverence and worshipped the throne (as though Rama were seated there). Taking hold of a fan made of yak's tail he sat in a minister's seat.
ಆನುಪೂರ್ವ್ಯಾನ್ನಿಷೇದುಶ್ಚ ಸರ್ವೇ ಮನ್ತ್ರಿಪುರೋಹಿತಾಃ.

ತತಸ್ಸೇನಾಪತಿಃ ಪಶ್ಚಾತ್ಪ್ರಶಾಸ್ತಾಚ ನಿಷೇದತುಃ৷৷2.91.40৷৷


ಸರ್ವೇ all, ಮನ್ತ್ರಿಪುರೋಹಿತಾಃ ministers and priests, ಆನುಪೂರ್ವ್ಯಾತ್ in order, ನಿಷೇದುಃ sat, ತತಃ ಸೇನಾಪತಿ after that the army chief, ಪಶ್ಚಾತ್ later, ಪ್ರಶಾಸ್ತಾ ಚ and the supervisor of the camp, ನಿಷೇದತುಃ sat.

First the ministers and priests took their respective seats in accordance with their rank, and then the army chief and finally the supervisor of the camp.

ತತಃ then, ಭರದ್ವಾಜಸ್ಯ by Bharadwaja, ಶಾಸನಾತ್ order, ಮುಹೂರ್ತೇನ instantly, ತತ್ರ there, ಪಾಯಸಕರ್ದಮಾಃ payasam (rice cooked in milk with sugar) as mud, ನದ್ಯಃ rivers, ಭರತಮ್ Bharata, ಉಪಾತಿಷ್ಠನ್ತ approached.

Rivers filled with payasam (rice cooked in milk and sugar) in the shape of mud flowed towards Bharata at the command of Bharadwaja.
ತಾಸಾಮುಭಯತಃ ಕೂಲಂ ಪಾಣ್ಡುಮೃತ್ತಿಕಲೇಪನಾಃ.

ರಮ್ಯಾಶ್ಚಾವಸಧಾ ದಿವ್ಯಾ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮಣಸ್ತು ಪ್ರಸಾದಜಾ:৷৷2.91.42৷৷


ತಾಸಾಮ್ those rivers, ಉಭಯತಃ ಕೂಲಮ್ on both the banks, ಪಾಣ್ಡುಮೃತ್ತಿಲೇಪನಾಃ plastered with white
clay, ಬ್ರಹ್ಮಣಃ Brahma, ಪ್ರಸಾದಜಾಃ produced by the grace, ದಿವ್ಯಾಃ celestial, ರಮ್ಯಾಃ charming, ಆವಸಧಾಶ್ಚ houses appeared.

On both the banks of those rivers, charming, celestial houses plastered with white clay appeared by the grace of Brahma.
ತೇನೈವ ಚ ಮೂಹೂರ್ತೇನ ದಿವ್ಯಾಭರಣಭೂಷಿತಾಃ.

ಆಗುರ್ವಿಂಶತಿಸಾಹಸ್ರಾಃ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮಣಾ ಪ್ರಹಿತಾಃ ಸ್ತ್ರಿಯಃ৷৷2.91.43৷৷


ತೇನ at that, ಮುಹೂರ್ತೇನ ಚ moment, ದಿವ್ಯಾಭರಣಭೂಷಿತಾಃ adorned with beautiful ornaments, ಬ್ರಹ್ಮಣಾ by Brahma, ಪ್ರಹಿತಾಃ sent, ವಿಂಶತಿಸಾಹಸ್ರಾಃ twenty thousand, ಸ್ತ್ರಿಯಃ women, ಆಗುಃ came.

At that very moment twenty thousand women adorned with beautiful ornaments sent by Brahma presented themselves.
ಸುವರ್ಣಮಣಿಮುಕ್ತೇನ ಪ್ರವಾಲೇನ ಚ ಶೋಭಿತಾಃ.

ಆಗುರ್ವಿಂಶತಿಸಾಹಾಸ್ರಾಃ ಕುಬೇರಪ್ರಹಿತಾಃ ಸ್ತ್ರಿಯಃ৷৷2.91.44৷৷


ಸುವರ್ಣಮಣಿಮುಕ್ತೇನ wearing golden ornaments and gems, ಪ್ರವಾಲೇನ with corals, ಶೋಭಿತಾ shining, ಕುಬೇರಪ್ರಹಿತಾಃ sent by Kubera, ವಿಂಶತಿಸಾಹಸ್ರಾಃ twenty thousand, ಸ್ತ್ರಿಯಃ ಆಗುಃ women came.

Twenty thousand women adorned with gold, gems and corals sent by Kubera came.
ಯಾಭಿರ್ಗೃಹೀತಃ ಪುರುಷಸ್ಸೋನ್ಮಾದ ಇವ ಲಕ್ಷ್ಯತೇ.

ಆಗುರ್ವಿಂಶತಿಸಾಹಸ್ರಾ ನನ್ದನಾದಪ್ಸರೋಗಣಾಃ৷৷2.91.45৷৷


ಯಾಭಿಃ by whom, ಗೃಹೀತಃ when taken hold of (in their arms), ಪುರುಷಃ man, ಸೋನ್ಮಾದ ಇವ filled with intense passion, ಲಕ್ಷ್ಯತೇ is observed, such, ವಿಂಶತಿಸಾಹಸ್ರಾಃ twenty thousand, ಅಪ್ಸರೋಗಣಾಃ troops of apsaras, ನನ್ದನಾತ್ from Nandana, ಆಗುಃ came.

Troops of twenty thousand apsaras by whom any man when taken hold of in their arms could be intoxicated with intense passion, came from Nandana gardens.
ನಾರದಸ್ತುಮ್ಭುರುರ್ಗೋಪಃ ಪ್ರವರಾಸ್ಸೂರ್ಯವರ್ಚಸಃ.

ಏತೇ ಗನ್ಧರ್ವರಾಜಾನೋ ಭರತಸ್ಯಾಗ್ರತೋ ಜಗುಃ৷৷2.91.46৷৷


ನಾರದಃ Narada, ತುಮ್ಭುರುಃ Tumburu, ಗೋಪಃ Gopa, ಪ್ರವರಾಃ distinguished ones, ಸೂರ್ಯವರ್ಚಸಃ resembling the brightness of the Sun, ಏತೇ these, ಗನ್ಧರ್ವರಾಜಾನಃ kings among gandharvas, ಭರತಸ್ಯ Bharata's, ಅಗ್ರತಃ presence, ಜಗುಃ began to sing.

There along with Narada, Tumburu and Gopa, distinguished kings of the gandharvas, looking bright like the Sun, began to sing in the presence of Bharata.
ಅಲಮ್ಬುಸಾ ಮಿಶ್ರಕೇಶೀ ಪುಣ್ಡರೀಕಾಥ ವಾಮನಾ.

ಉಪಾನೃತ್ಯಂಸ್ತು ಭರತಂ ಭರದ್ವಾಜಸ್ಯ ಶಾಸನಾತ್৷৷2.91.47৷৷


ಅಥ thereafter, ಭರದ್ವಾಜಸ್ಯ Bharadwaja's, ಶಾಸನಾತ್ command, ಅಲಮ್ಬುಸಾ Alambusa, ಮಿಶ್ರಕೇಶೀ Misrakese, ಪುಣ್ಡರೀಕಾ Pundarika, ವಾಮನಾ Vamana, ಭರತಮ್ Bharata, ಉಪಾನೃತ್ಯನ್ ತು danced near.

Thereafter, the apsaras, Alambusa, Misrakesi, Pundarika and Vamana danced near Bharata at the command of Bharadwaja.
ಯಾನಿ ಮಾಲ್ಯಾನಿ ದೇವೇಷು ಯಾನಿ ಚೈತ್ರರಥೇ ವನೇ.

ಪ್ರಯಾಗೇ ತಾನ್ಯದೃಶ್ಯನ್ತ ಭರದ್ವಾಜಸ್ಯ ಶಾಸನಾತ್৷৷2.91.48৷৷


ಯಾನಿ those, ಮಾಲ್ಯಾನಿ garlands, ದೇವೇಷು among the gods, ಯಾನಿ those garlands, ಚೈತ್ರರಥೇ of Chaitraratha, ವನೇ in the garden, ತಾನಿ all those, ಭರದ್ವಾಜಸ್ಯ Bharadwaja's, ಶಾಸನಾತ್ at the command, ಪ್ರಯಾಗೇ Prayaga, ಅದೃಶ್ಯನ್ತ were found.

The garlands of the gods available in Chitraratha's (Kubera's) garden could not match those obtained under the orders of Bharadwaja.

At the command of Bharadwaja, bilva trees acted as drummers, vibhitaka trees as cymbalists and the pipal trees as dancers.

ತತಃ then, ಸರಲತಾಲಾಶ್ಚ pine and palmyra trees, ತಿಲಕಾಃ tilaka trees, ನಕ್ತಮಾಲಕಾಃ naktamala (that bear flowers at night), ಪ್ರಹೃಷ್ಟಾಃ out of great joy, ಕುಬ್ಜಾಃ hunch-backed, ಅಥ also, ವಾಮನಾಃ dwarfs, ಭೂತ್ವಾ ತತ್ರ ಸಮ್ಪೇತುಃ taking the form moved about there.

Thereafter pine, palmyra, tilaka, and naktamala trees were transformed into hunch-backs and dwarfs and moved about in great delight.

ಶಿಂಶುಪಾಮಲಕೀಜಮ್ಬ್ವಃ ashoka and emblic myrobalan trees, ಕಾನನೇಷು in the forest, ಅನ್ಯಾಃ and other, ಯಾಃ those, ತಾಃ they, ಮಾಲತೀ jasmine creeper, ಮಲ್ಲಿಕಾ mallika creeper, ಜಾತಿಃ jati creeper, ಕಾನನೇ in the forest, ಅನ್ಯಾಃ other, ಯಾಃ ಲತಾಃ all those creepers, ಪ್ರಮದಾವಿಗ್ರಹಮ್ taking the form of women, ಕೃತ್ವಾ having made, ಭರದ್ವಾಜಾಶ್ರಮೇ in the hermitage of Bharadwaja, ಅವದನ್ said.

Asohka, emblic myrobalan and all other trees found in the forest malati, mallika and jati creepers assumed the form of women, came over to the hermitage of Bharadwaja and said:

ಸುರಾಪಾಃ O those of you who drink liquor, ಯಾವತ್ until, ಇಚ್ಛಥ you desire, ಸುರಾಃ liquor, ಪಿಬತ drink, ಬುಭುಕ್ಷಿತಾಃ those who are hungry to eat, ಪಾಯಸಂ ಚ payasam (made of milk and rice), ಸುಮೇಧ್ಯಾನಿ sacred, ಮಾಂಸಾನಿ ಚ meat, ಭಕ್ಷ್ಯನ್ತಾಮ್ let them eat.

'O wine drinkers, drink as much as you can those who are hungry partake payasam and sacred meat'.
ಉಚ್ಛಾದ್ಯ ಸ್ನಾಪಯನ್ತಿ ಸ್ಮ ನದೀತೀರೇಷ ವಲ್ಗುಷು.

ಸಪ್ತ ಚ seven or, ಅಷ್ಟ ಚ eight, ಪ್ರಮದಾಃ women, ಏಕಮ್ one by one, ಪುರುಷಮ್ man, ಉಚ್ಛಾದ್ಯ applied oil and massaged the body, ವಲ್ಗುಷು in the lovely, ನದೀತೀರೇಷು on the banks of the river, ಸ್ನಾಪಯನ್ತಿ bathed them, ಸ್ಮ ಅಪಿ also.

Every single warrior was attended by seven or eight women who applied oil and massaged his body and bathed him on the lovely banks of the river.
ಸಂವಾಹನ್ತ್ಯಸ್ಸಮಾಪೇತುರ್ನಾರ್ಯೋ ರುಚಿರಲೋಚನಾಃ.

ಪರಿಮೃಜ್ಯ ತಥಾನ್ಯೋನ್ಯಂ ಪಾಯಯನ್ತಿ ವರಾಙ್ಗನಾಃ৷৷2.91.55৷৷


ರುಚಿರಲೋಚನಾಃ with beautiful eyes, ನಾರ್ಯಃ women, ಸಂವಾಹನ್ತ್ಯಃ massaging, ಸಮಾಪೇತುಃ quickly approached, ವರಾಙ್ಗನಾಃ best of ladies, ತಥಾ like that, ಪರಿಮೃಜ್ಯ wiped the water, ಅನ್ಯೋನ್ಯಮ್ to each other, ಪಾಯಯನ್ತಿ made them drink.

Some women with beautiful eyes quickly approached them for massaging. The best of ladies wiped their bodies dry and gave each other wine to drink.

ಉಷ್ಟ್ರಾನ್ camels, ತಥೈವ similarly, ಸುರಭೇಃ the Surabhi's, ಸುತಾನ offsprings, ಯಥಾವಿಧಿ duly, ತೇಷಾಮ್ for them, ಭೋಜ್ಯಮ್ food, ಅಭೋಜಯನ್ fed.

The attendants of draught-animals fed the horses, elephants, donkeys, camels and oxen their appropriate food.
ಇಕ್ಷೂಂಶ್ಚ ಮಧುಲಾಜಾಂಶ್ಚ ಭೋಜಯನ್ತಿ ಸ್ಮ ವಾಹನಾನ್.

ಮಹಾಬಲಾಃ of highly energetic attendants, ಇಕ್ಷ್ವಾಕುವರಯೋಧಾನಾಮ್ of the illustrious warriors of Ikshvaku race, ವಾಹನಾನ್ the draught-animals, ಚೋದಯನ್ತಃ provoking them to eat, ಇಕ್ಷೂಂಶ್ಚ sugarcane, ಮಧುಲಾಜಾಂಶ್ಚ honey and parched grain, ಭೋಜಯನ್ತಿ ಸ್ಮ were fed.

The draught-aimals of the illustrious warriors of Ikshvaku kings were urged by the highly energetic attendants to eat more and more of parched grain mixed with sugarcane and honey.
ನಾಶ್ವಬನ್ಧೋಶ್ವಮಾಜಾನಾನ್ನಗಜಂ ಕುಞ್ಜರಗ್ರಹಃ.

ಅಶ್ವಬನ್ಧಃ horse-rider, ಅಶ್ವಮ್ horse, ನ ಅಜಾನಾತ್ no longer recognised, ಕುಞ್ಜರಗ್ರಹಃ mahout, ಗಜಮ್ elephant, ನ not recognised, ತತ್ರ there, ಸಾ that, ಚಮೂಃ whole army, ಮತ್ತಪ್ರಮತ್ತಮುದಿತಾ fully drunk had forgotten in their joy, ಸಮ್ಬಭೌ shone.

The horse-rider no longer recognised the horse or the mahout the elephant and the whole army was inebriated with drinking and pleasure.
ತರ್ಪಿತಾಸ್ಸರ್ವಕಾಮೈಸ್ತೇ ರಕ್ತಚನ್ದನರೂಷಿತಾಃ.

ಸರ್ವಕಾಮೈಃ by all horse-riders, ತರ್ಪಿತಾಃ gratified, ರಕ್ತಚನ್ದನರೂಷಿತಾಃ smeared with red sandal paste, ಅಪ್ಸರೋಗಣಸಮ್ಯುಕ್ತಾಃ surrounded by apsaras, ತೇ ಸೈನ್ಯಾಃ those soldiers, ವಾಚಮ್ these
words, ಉದೈರಯನ್ exclaimed.

All the armymen with their desires gratified and anointing their bodies with red sandal paste surrounded by apsaras exclaimed.
ನೈವಾಯೋಧ್ಯಾಂ ಗಮಿಷ್ಯಾಮೋ ನಗಮಿಷ್ಯಾಮ ದಣ್ಡಕಾನ್.

ಕುಶಲಂ ಭರತಸ್ಯಾಸ್ತು ರಾಮಸ್ಯಾಸ್ತು ತಥಾ ಸುಖಮ್৷৷2.91.60৷৷


ಅಯೋಧ್ಯಾಮ್ to Ayodhya, ನ ಗಮಿಷ್ಯಾಮಃ will not return, ದಣ್ಡಕಾನ್ to Danadaka forest, ನ ಗಮಿಷ್ಯಾಮಃ will not go, ಭರತಸ್ಯ to Bharata, ಕುಶಲಮ್ welfare, ಅಸ್ತು ತಥಾ be like this, ರಾಮಸ್ಯ Rama, ಸುಖಮ್ happy, ಅಸ್ತು will be.

We will neither return to Ayodhya, nor enter Dandaka (forest). May Bharata and Rama be happy.

Having enjoyed the hospitality of Bharadwaja the foot soldiers, horse and elephant riders made utterances ignoring their leaders.
ಸಂಮ್ಪ್ರಹೃಷ್ಟಾ ವಿನೇದುಸ್ತೇ ನರಾಸ್ತತ್ರ ಸಹಸ್ರಶಃ.

ಭರತಸ್ಯಾನುಯಾತಾರಸ್ಸ್ವರ್ಗೋಯಮಿತಿ ಚಾಬ್ರುವನ್৷৷2.91.62৷৷


ಭರತಸ್ಯ Bharata's, ಅನುಯಾತಾರಃ followers, ತೇ ನರಾಃ those men, ತತ್ರ there, ಸಹಸ್ರಶಃ in their thousands, ಸಮ್ಪ್ರಹೃಷ್ಟಾಃ highly exited with delight, ವಿನೇದುಃ shouted, ಅಯಮ್ this is, ಸ್ವರ್ಗಃ heaven, ಇತಿ thus, ಅಬ್ರುವನ್ ಚ started uttering.

The exceedingly delighted soldiers of Bharata's retinue in their thousands cried out with excitement This is the very heaven.
ನೃತ್ಯನ್ತಿ ಸ್ಮ ಹಸನ್ತಿ ಸ್ಮ ಗಾಯನ್ತಿ ಸ್ಮ ಚ ಸೈನಿಕಾಃ

ಸಮನ್ತಾತ್ಪರಿಧಾವನ್ತಿ ಮಾಲ್ಯೋಪೇತಾಸ್ಸಹಸ್ರಶಃ৷৷2.91.63৷৷


ಸಹಸ್ರಶಃ in thousands, ಸೈನಿಕಾಃ soldiers, ಮಾಲ್ಯೋಪೇತಾಃ wearing flower garlands, ನೃತ್ಯನ್ತಿ ಸ್ಮ danced, ಹಸನ್ತಿ ಸ್ಮ laughed, ಗಾಯನ್ತಿ ಸ್ಮ sang, ಸಮನ್ತಾತ್ all over, ಪರಿಧಾವನ್ತಿ ran about.

Those thousands of soldiers wearing flower garlands ran about dancing, singing, and laughing.
ತತೋ ಭುಕ್ತವತಾಂ ತೇಷಾಂ ತದನ್ನಮಮೃತೋಪಮಮ್.

ದಿವ್ಯಾನುದ್ವೀಕ್ಷ್ಯ ಭಕ್ಷ್ಯಾಂ ಸ್ತಾನಭವದ್ಭಕ್ಷಣೇ ಮತಿಃ৷৷2.91.64৷৷


ತತಃ then, ಅಮೃತೋಪಮಮ್ like nectar, ತತ್ ಅನ್ನಮ್ that food, ಭುಕ್ತವತಾಮ್ of those who had partaken, ತೇಷಾಮ್ for them, ದಿವ್ಯಾನ್ heavenly, ತಾನ್ ಭಕ್ಷ್ಯಾನ್ those eatables, ಉದ್ವೀಕ್ಷಯ glancing, ಭಕ್ಷಣೇ to partake, ಮತಿಃ in their minds, ಅಭವತ್ desire arose.

Glancing at the ambrosial food, a desire arose in the minds of those soldiers to eat once again although they had already partaken it.
ಪ್ರೇಷ್ಯಾಶ್ಚೇಟ್ಯಶ್ಚ ವಧ್ವಶ್ಚ ಬಲಸ್ಥಾಶ್ಚ ಸಹಸ್ರಶಃ.

ಬಭೂವುಸ್ತೇ ಭೃಶಂ ದೃಪ್ತಾಸ್ಸರ್ವೇ ಚಾಹತವಾಸಸಃ৷৷2.91.65৷৷


ಸಹಶ್ರಸಃ in their thousands, ಪ್ರೇಷ್ಯಾಃ messengers, ಚೇಟ್ಯಶ್ಚ maidservants, ವಧ್ವಶ್ಚ female attendants, ಬಲಸ್ಥಾಃ army attendants, ತೇ they, ಸರ್ವೇ ಚ all of them, ಅಹತವಾಸಸಃ dressed in
unworn (new) garments, ಭೃಶಮ್ exceedingly, ದೃಪ್ತಾಃ ಬಭೂವುಃ felt proud of themselves.

Messengers, maidservants, female attendants, and soldiers -- all of them in their thousands dressed in fresh garments felt exceedingly proud of themselves.
ಕುಞ್ಜರಾಶ್ಚ ಖರೋಷ್ಟ್ರಾಶ್ಚ ಗೋಶ್ವಾಶ್ಚ ಮೃಗಪಕ್ಷಿಣಃ.

ಬಭೂವುಸ್ಸುಭೃತಾಸ್ತತ್ರ ನಾನ್ಯೋ ಹ್ಯನ್ಯಮಕಲ್ಪಯತ್৷৷2.91.66৷৷


ತತ್ರ there, ಕುಞ್ಜರಾಶ್ಚ elephants, ಖರೋಷ್ಟ್ರಾಶ್ಚ donkeys and camels, ಗೋಶ್ವಾಶ್ಚ cows and horses, ಮೃಗಪಕ್ಷಿಣಃ beasts and birds, ಸುಭೃತಾಃ ಬಭೂವು were well-nourished, ಅನ್ಯಃ ಅನ್ಯಮ್ one to the other, ನ ಅಕಲ್ಪಯತ್ ಹಿ did not trouble.

There the elephants, donkeys and camels, cows and horses and also beasts and birds were well-nourished. No one troubled the other.
ನಾಶುಕ್ಲವಾಸಾ ಸ್ತತ್ರಾಸೀತ್ಕ್ಷುಧಿತೋ ಮಲಿನೋಪಿ ವಾ.

ರಜಸಾ ಧ್ವಸ್ತಕೇಶೋ ವಾ ನರಃ ಕಶ್ಚಿದದೃಶ್ಯತ৷৷2.91.67৷৷


ತತ್ರ there, ಅಶುಕ್ಲವಾಸಾಃ wearing non-white (dirty) dress, ಕ್ಷುಧಿತಃ hungry, ಮಲಿನೋಪಿ dirty, ನ ಆಸೀತ್ none was there, ಕಶ್ಚಿತ್ ನರಃ anybody, ರಜಸಾ with dust, ಧ್ವಸ್ತಕೇಶೋ ವಾ with decayed hair, ನಾದೃಶ್ಯತ could not be seen.

In that army there was none who could be seen without wearing garments of sparkling white, who was hungry or dirty or with decayed hair.
ಆಜೈಶ್ಚಾಪಿ ಚ ವಾರಾಹೈರ್ನಿಷ್ಠಾನವರಸ್ಚಯೈಃ.

ಫಲನಿರ್ಯೂಹ ಸಂಸಿದ್ದೈಸ್ಸೂಪೈರ್ಗನ್ಧ ರಸಾನ್ವಿತೈಃ৷৷2.91.68৷৷

ಪುಷ್ಪಧ್ವಜವತೀಃ ಪೂರ್ಣಾಶ್ಶುಕ್ಲಸ್ಯಾನ್ನಸ್ಯ ಚಾಭಿತಃ.

ತತ್ರ there, ನರಾಃ men, ಆಜೈಶ್ಚಾಪಿ with mutton, ವಾರಾಹೈಶ್ಚ pork, ನಿಷ್ಠಾನವರಸಞ್ಚಯೈಃ with choicest condiments, ಫಲನಿರ್ಯೂಹ ಸಂಸಿದ್ದೈಃ with various fruit juices, ಗನ್ಧರಸಾನ್ವಿತೈಃ with fragrant and tasteful, ಸೂಪೈಃ with soups, ಪೂರ್ಣಾಃ filled with, ಶುಕ್ಲಸ್ಯ white, ಅನ್ನಸ್ಯ rice, ಲೌಹೀಃ best of iron containers, ಅಭಿತಃ on all sides, ವಿಸ್ಮಿತಾಃ were amazed, ದದೃಶುಃ beheld.

There the soldiers beheld in amazement thousands of iron containers decked with flags and flowers and filled with white rice, mutton, pork, choicest condiments, fruit juice, fragrant and tasty soup.
ಬಭೂವುರ್ವನಪಾರ್ಶ್ವೇಷು ಕೂಪಾಃ ಪಾಯಸಕರ್ದಮಾಃ.

ವನಪಾರ್ಶ್ವೇಷು along the edge of the forest, ಪಾಯಸಕರ್ದಮಾಃ drink of milk and rice, ಕೂಪಾಃ wells, ಬಭೂವುಃ were formed, ಗಾವ: cows, ತಾಃ those, ಕಾಮದುಘಾಃ wishfulfilling, ದ್ರುಮಾಶ್ಚ trees, ಮಧುಶ್ಚ್ಯುತಃ dripping honey, ಆಸನ್ became.

Along the edge of the forest, wells were filled with thick payasam. There were wishfulfilling cows and honey-dripping trees.
ವಾಪ್ಯೋ ಮೈರೇಯಪೂರ್ಣಾಶ್ಚ ಮೃಷ್ಟಮಾಂಸಚಯೈರ್ವೃತಾಃ.

The wells were found filled with date-palm liquor and surrounded by pots of well cooked meat of peacocks, chicken and other animals.

ಪಾತ್ರೀಣಾಮ್ vessels, ಸಹಸ್ರಾಣಿ in thousands, ಸ್ಥಾಲೀನಾಮ್ plates, ನಿಯುತಾನಿ in lakhs, ಶಾತಕುಮ್ಭಮಯಾನಿ made of gold, ಪಾತ್ರಾಣಿ pots (cups), ಸುಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಾಃ well-cleansed, ಸ್ಥಾಲ್ಯಃ earthern jugs, ಕುಮ್ಭ್ಯಃ jars, ಕರಮ್ಭ್ಯಶ್ಚ pots with a wide mouth, ಯೌವನಸ್ಥಸ್ಯ not very ripe, ಗೌರಸ್ಯ white, ಸುಗನ್ಧಿನಃ of good flavour, ಕಪಿತ್ಥಸ್ಯ curds of the colour of wood apple, ಪೂರ್ಣಾಃ filled with, ಹ್ರದಾಃ tanks, ರಸಾಲಸ್ಯ blended with spices, ಶ್ವೇತಸ್ಯ white, ದಧ್ನಃ curds, ಅಪರೇ ಚ some more tanks, ಪಾಯಸಸ್ಯ sweets made from milk and rice cooked together (payasam), ಅನ್ಯೇ some other tanks, ಶರ್ಕರಾಯಾವಸಞ್ಚಯಾಃ food prepared from barley mixed with sugar, ಬಭೂವುಃ were formed.

There were thousands of pots, lakhs of plates, crores of vessels -- all made of gold and filled with well-garnished food. Curd was kept in earthern pots like jugs and jars and pots with a wide mouth. Tanks were formed, some filled with white curd of good flavour and of the colour of woodapple, some with white curd blended with spices and some with payasam and heaps of barely powder mixed with sugar.

ನರಾಃ men (soldiers), ಸರಿತಾಮ್ rivers, ತೀರ್ಥೇಷು landing places, ಕಲ್ಕಾನ್ levigated powder, ಚೂರ್ಣಕಷಾಯಾಂಶ್ಚ powder and extract, ಭಾಜನಸ್ಥಾನಿ in receptacles, ವಿವಿಧಾನಿ of different kinds, ಸ್ನಾನಾನಿ ಚ bathing requisites, ದದೃಶುಃ were seen.

The soldiers saw on the river banks at landing places levigated powder, fragrant powder and extracts and other bathing requisites of different kinds stored in receptacles.
ಶುಕ್ಲಾನಂಶುಮತಶ್ಚಾಪಿ ದನ್ತಧಾವನಸಞ್ಚಯಾನ್.

ಶುಕ್ಲಾಂಶ್ಚನ್ದನಕಲ್ಕಾಂಶ್ಚ ಸಮುದ್ಗೇಷ್ವವತಿಷ್ಠತಃ৷৷2.91.76৷৷

ದರ್ಪಣಾಪರಿಮೃಷ್ಟಾಂಶ್ಚ ವಾಸಸಾಂ ಚಾಪಿ ಸಞ್ಚಯಾನ್.

ತೇ they (soldiers), ತತ್ರ there, ಸರ್ವಶಃ on every side, ಶುಕ್ಲಾನ್ pure white, ಅಂಶುಮತಶ್ಚಾಪಿ bristled, ದನ್ತಧಾವನಸಞ್ಚಯಾನ್ stacks of tooth-brushing sticks, ಸಮುದ್ಗೇಷು in dishes made of leaves, ಅತಿಷ್ಠತಃ placed, ಶುಕ್ಲಾನ್ pure white, ಚನ್ದನಕಲ್ಕಾಂಶ್ಚ lumps of sandal paste, ಪರಿಮೃಷ್ಟಾನ್ very well-cleaned, ದರ್ಪಣಾನ್ ಚ mirrors, ವಾಸಸಾಮ್ clothes, ಸಞ್ಚಯಾನ್ ಚಾಪಿ collection, ಪಾದುಕೋಪಾನಹಾಮ್ foot wear for the feet, ಸಹಸ್ರಶಃ in thousands, ಯುಗ್ಮಾನಿ ಚ of pairs, ಆಞ್ಜನೀಃ collyrium boxes, ಕಙ್ಕತಾನ್ combs, ಕೂರ್ಚಾನ್ brushes for cleaning moustaches, ಶಸ್ತ್ರಾಣಿ ಚ weapons, ಧನೂಂಷಿ ಚ bows, ಮರ್ಮತ್ರಾಣಾನಿ shields, ಚಿತ್ರಾಣಿ armours for protecting vital parts, ಶಯನಾನಿ couches, ಆಸನಾನಿ ಚ seats, ಖರೋಷ್ಟ್ರಗಜವಾಜಿನಾಮ್ for donkeys, camels, elephants and horses, ಪ್ರತಿಪಾನಹ್ರದಾನ್ pools of drinking water, ಅವಗಾಹ್ಯಸುತೀರ್ಥಾನ್ excellent bathing places, ಸೋತಪಲಪುಷ್ಕರಾನ್ filled with flowering lotuses and lilies, ಆಕಾಶವರ್ಣಪ್ರತಿಮಾನ್ resembling the hue of the sky (blue), ಸ್ವಚ್ಛತೋಯಾನ್ pure and tranparent waters, ಸುಖಪ್ಲವಾನ್ good and comfortable tanks for swimming in, ಹ್ರದಾನ್ lakes, ಪಶೂನಾಮ್ for animals, ನಿರ್ವಾಪಾರ್ಥಾನ್ for refreshing, ನೀಪವೈಡೂರ್ಯವರ್ಣಾಂಶ್ಚ like kadamva trees as green as the sapphire, ಮೃದೂನ್ soft, ಯವಸಞ್ಚಯಾನ್ heaps of grass collected together, ದದೃಶುಃ beheld.

There the soldiers beheld on every side stacks of tooth-brushing sticks, white and bristled, white lumps of sandal paste placed in dishes made of leaves, well cleaned mirrors, collection of clothes, several pairs of footwear, collyrium boxes, combs,
brushes for cleaning moustaches, weapons, parasoles, bows and shining armour, different kinds of couches, and seats. There were pools of drinking water for donkeys, camels, elephants and horses and excellent landing places filled with flowering lotuses and water lilies. The lakes were of transparent waters resembling the hue of the sky easy and comfortable for swimming. There they saw heaps of soft grass as green as
sapphire and kadamva trees for animals to refresh themselves under.
ವ್ಯಸ್ಮಯನ್ತ ಮನುಷ್ಯಾಸ್ತೇ ಸ್ವಪ್ನಕಲ್ಪಂ ತದದ್ಭುತಮ್.

ದೃಷ್ಟ್ವಾತಿಥ್ಯಂ ಕೃತಂ ತಾದೃಗ್ಭರತಸ್ಯ ಮಹರ್ಷಿಣಾ৷৷2.91.81৷৷


ತೇ ಮನುಷ್ಯಾಃ those men, ಮಹರ್ಷಿಣಾ by the sage, ಭರತಸ್ಯ to Bharata, ಕೃತಮ್ provided, ತಾದೃಕ್ such, ಸ್ವಪ್ನಕಲ್ಪಮ್ like a dream, ಅದ್ಭುತಮ್ wonderful, ತತ್ that, ಆತಿಥ್ಯಮ್ hospitality, ದೃಷ್ಟ್ವಾ beholding, ವ್ಯಸ್ಮಯನ್ತ were amazed.

The men were amazed when they beheld the wonderful hospitality extended by maharshi Bharadwaja to Bharata, as if all this happened in a dream world.
ಇತ್ಯೇವಂ ರಮಮಾಣಾನಾಂ ದೇವಾನಾಮಿವ ನನ್ದನೇ.

ಭರದ್ವಾಜಾಶ್ರಮೇ ರಮ್ಯೇ ಸಾ ರಾತ್ರಿರ್ವ್ಯತ್ಯವರ್ತತ৷৷2.91.82৷৷


ಇತ್ಯೇವಮ್ like this, ನನ್ದನೇ in the garden of Indra, ದೇವಾನಾಮಿವ as for gods, ರಮ್ಯೇ in the lovely, ಭರದ್ವಾಜಾಶ್ರಮೇ in Bharadwaja's hermitage, ರಮಮಾಣಾನಾಮ್ enjoying so, ಸಾ ರಾತ್ರಿಃ that night, ವ್ಯತ್ಯವರ್ತತ passed off.

As they were enjoying themselves in Bharadwaja's hermitage like the gods in the garden of Indra the night wore off.
ಪ್ರತಿಜಗ್ಮುಶ್ಚ ತಾ ನದ್ಯೋ ಗನ್ಧರ್ವಾಶ್ಚ ಯಥಾಗತಮ್.

ಭರದ್ವಾಜಮನುಜ್ಞಾಪ್ಯ ತಾಶ್ಚ ಸರ್ವಾ ವರಾಙ್ಗನಾಃ৷৷2.91.83৷৷


ತಾಃ ನದ್ಯಃ those rivers, ಗನ್ಧರ್ವಾಶ್ಚ and the gandharvas, ಸರ್ವಾಃ all, ತಾಃ of them, ವರಾಙ್ಗನಾಶ್ಚ lovely women too, ಭರದ್ವಾಜಮ್ Bharadwaja's, ಅನುಜ್ಞಾಪ್ಯ obtaining permission, ಯಥಾಗತಮ್ from
whereever they had come, ಪ್ರತಿಜಗ್ಮುಶ್ಚ returned.

Those rivers, the gandharvas and all those lovely women took leave of sage Bharadwaja and returned to where they had come from.
ತಥೈವ ಮತ್ತಾ ಮದಿರೋತ್ಕಟಾ ನರಾಸ್ತಥೈವ ದಿವ್ಯಾಗರುಚನ್ದನೋಕ್ಷಿತಾಃ.

ತಥೈವ ದಿವ್ಯಾ ವಿವಿಧಾಸ್ಸ್ರಗುತ್ತಮಾಃ ಪೃಥಕ್ಪ್ರಕೀರ್ಣಾ ಮನುಜೈಃ ಪ್ರಮರ್ದಿತಾಃ৷৷2.91.84৷৷


ನರಾಃ men, ಮದಿರೋತ್ಕಟಾಃ having consumed limitless drink, ತಥೈವ still, ಮತ್ತಾಃ inebriated, ತಥೈವ still, ದಿವ್ಯಾಗರು smeared with divine agaru, ಚಂದನೋಕ್ಷಿತಾಃ sandal fragrance, ಮನುಜೈಃ by people, ಪ್ರಮರ್ದಿತಾಃ well-crushed, ಪೃಥಕ್ helter skelter, ಪ್ರಕೀರ್ಣಾಃ strewn, ದಿವ್ಯಾಃ divine, ವಿವಿಧಾಃ several, ಸ್ರಗುತ್ತಮಾಃ splendid garlands, ತಥೈವ remained so.

Even after the departure of the gandharvas the soldiers who had consumed limitless liquor were still inebriated. The divine agaru and sandalwood smeared on their bodies still remained. Several splendid garlands crushed by them were strewn all over.
