[Lakshmana's description of nature at Panchavati to Rama --- Rama's reflections on Bharata's virtues.]

vasatastasya tu sukhaṅ rāghavasya mahātmanaḥ.

śaradvyapāyē hēmantaṛturiṣṭaḥ pravartata৷৷3.16.1৷৷


mahātmanaḥ great self, tasya rāghavasya that Rama's, sukham comfort, vasataḥ while living, śaradvyapāyē autumn over, iṣṭaḥ favourite season, hēmantaṛtuḥ winter season, pravartata set in.

While the great self Rama lived happily there, autumn passed and dear winter set in.
sa kadācitprabhātāyāṅ śarvaryāṅ raghunandanaḥ.

prayayāvabhiṣēkārthaṅ ramyāṅ gōdāvarīṅ nadīm৷৷3.16.2৷৷


kadācit once, saḥ raghunandanaḥ he, the delight (beloved son) of Raghu race, śarvaryām when the night, prabhātāyām turned into morning, ramyām beautiful, gōdāvarīṅ nadīm Godavari river, abhiṣēkārtham for ablution, prayayau went.

Once Rama, delight of the Raghu race, went to the beautiful river Godavari for ablution in the early hours of the morning.
prahvaḥ kalaśahastastaṅ sītayā saha vīryavān.

pṛṣṭhatō.nuvrajanbhrātā saumitriridamabravīt৷৷3.16.3৷৷


bhrātā brother, vīryavān heroic, saumitri: Saumitri, prahvaḥ bending a little, kalaśahastaḥ pitcher in hand, pṛṣṭhataḥ behind, sītayā saha with Sita, anuvrajan walking behind, idam this, abravīt said.

While valiant Lakshmana, walking behind Sita who was carrying a pitcher in her hand bent down a little and told Rama thus:
ayaṅ sa kālaḥ samprāptaḥ priyō yastē priyaṅvada.

alaṅkṛta ivābhāti yēna saṅvatsaraḥ śubhaḥ৷৷3.16.4৷৷


priyaṅvada sweet-speaking, yaḥ this( season), tē to you, priyaḥ dear, saḥ ayaṅ kālaḥ this time, samprāptaḥ has set in, yēna by which, śubhaḥ auspicious, saṅvatsaraḥ year, alaṅkṛtaḥ iva as if decorated, ābhāti appears.

O sweet-speaking brother, the season which is dear to you has arrived. It appears the auspicious year is going to be embellished with this season.
nīhāraparuṣō lōkaḥ pṛthivī sasyaśālinī.

jalānyanupabhōgyāni subhagō havyavāhanaḥ৷৷3.16.5৷৷


lōkaḥ people , nīhāraparuṣaḥ frozen with fog, pṛthivī the earth, sasyaśālinī full of crops, jalāni waters, anupabhōgyāni no more enjoyable, havyavāhanaḥ the fire, subhagaḥ very enjoyable.

People feel frozen with fog, and water is no more enjoyable. The earth is full of crops and fire is so agreeable.
navāgrayaṇapūjābhirabhyarcya pitṛdēvatāḥ.

kṛtāgrayaṇakāḥ kālē santō vigatakalmaṣāḥ৷৷3.16.6৷৷


santaḥ pious men, navāgrayaṇapūjābhiḥ with offering of libations of the first crop at Agnistoma sacrifices, pitṛdēvatāḥ manes abhyarcya after worshipping, kālē at the proper time, kṛtāgrayaṇakāḥ the sages who have conducted sacrifice with oblation, vigatakalmaṣāḥ rid of their sins.

Pious men offer their libations of the first crop at Agnistoma sacrifice and thereby please their manes and get rid of their sins.
prājyakāmā janapadāssampannataragōrasāḥ.

vicaranti mahīpālā yātrāsthā vijigīṣavaḥ৷৷3.16.7৷৷


sampannataragōrasāḥ obtaining abundant cow's milk, janapadāḥ people of the countryside, prājyakāmāḥ with fulfilled desire, mahīpālāḥ rulers of the earth, vijigīṣava: desirous of victory, yātrāsthāḥ going on expedition, vicaranti are moving about.

People in the countryside with their desires satisfied obtain abundant cow's milk at this time. Rulers of the earth are out on their expedition with a desire for victory.
sēvamānē dṛḍhaṅ sūryē diśamantaka sēvitām.

vihīnatilakēva strī nōttarā dikprakāśatē৷৷3.16.8৷৷


sūryē Sun, antakasēvitām serving the god of death, diśam direction, dṛḍham stand still, sēvamānē attending, uttarā dik northern side, vihīnatilakā without the vermilion mark, strīva like a woman, prakāśatē is shining.

As the Sun has resorted to the direction (south) that serves the god of death, the north devoid of (the Sun) shines like a woman without the vermilion mark on the forehead.
prakṛtyā himakōśāḍhyō dūrasūryaśca sāmpratam.

yathārthanāmā suvyaktaṅ himavānhimavāngiriḥ৷৷3.16.9৷৷


prakṛtyā by nature, himakōśāḍhyaḥ with snow settled heavily, sāmpratam presently dūrasūryaśca distant Sun, himavān Himalaya, giriḥ mountain, himavān snowy mountain, suvyaktam clearly, yathārthanāmā has a befitting name.

Presently with the Sun far away, the Himalayas abounding in snow has naturally justified its name.
atyantasukhasañcārā madhyāhnē sparśatassukhāḥ.

divasāssubhagādityāścāyāsaliladurbhagāḥ৷৷3.16.10৷৷


madhyāhnē at noon, sparśataḥ the touch, sukhāḥ comfortable, atyantasukhasañcārāḥ comfortable to go about, divasāḥ daytime, subhagādityāḥ will be enjoyable, chāyāsaliladurbhagāḥ in shade the water will be enjoyable৷৷

The days are enjoyable at noon as it is pleasant to move about during this time since the sun is not scorching. But the shade and water seem to be unfortunate (as they are not liked by any one.
mṛdusūryāssanīhārāḥ paṭuśītāssamārutāḥ.

śūnyāraṇyā himadhvastā divasā bhāntisāmpratam৷৷3.16.11৷৷


sāmpratam at this time, himadhvastāḥ destroyed by frost, divasāḥ days, mṛdusūryāḥ mild Sun, sanīhārāḥ heavy dews, paṭuśītāḥ severe cold, samārutāḥ with breeze blowing, śūnyāraṇyāḥ with none moving in the forest, bhānti shine.

The days will be frost-smitten. The Sun will also be mild. Due to heavy dewfall the weather will be cold with the blowing of the wind. Forests will be empty (as no animals would be seen moving around.)
nivṛttākāśaśayanāḥ puṣyanītā himāruṇāḥ.

śītā vṛddhatarāyāmāstriyāmā yānti sāmpratam৷৷3.16.12৷৷


sāmpratam at this time, nivṛttākāśaśayanāḥ sleep under the open sky, himāruṇāḥ reddened due to frost, śītāḥ cool, vṛddhatarāyāmāḥ nights are long, puṣyanītāḥ (the month of) Pushya approaching, triyāmāḥ night consisting of three yamas (yama = 3 hours approximately), yānti run into

At this time people do not sleep under the open sky. With the month of Pushya approaching, nights feel cool and look red due to frost. They prolong into three yamas.
ravisaṅkrāntasaubhāgya stuṣārāruṇamaṇḍalaḥ.

niśśvāsāndha ivādarśanchandramā na prakāśatē৷৷3.16.13৷৷


ravisaṅkrāntasaubhāgyaḥ with the radiance of the Sun dimmed, tuṣārāruṇamaṇḍalaḥ with the orb reddened owing to frost, candramāḥ Moon, niḥśvāsāndhaḥ with its surface looking blurred with breath, ādarśa iva like a mirror, na prakāśatē does not shine.

With the radiance of the Sun dimmed, with its orb reddened by frost, the moon does not shine clear like a mirror blurred with breath.
jyōtsna tuṣāramalinā paurṇamāsyāṅ na rājatē.

sītēva cātapaśyāmā lakṣyatē na tu śōbhatē৷৷3.16.14৷৷


paurṇamāsyām on a fullmoon night, tuṣāramalinā faded by frost, jyōtsnā moonlight, na rājatē not shining, ātapaśyāmā scorched by heat, sītēva like Sita, lakṣyatē appearing, na tu śōbhatē not bright.

On a fullmoon night the beams of the moon faded by forest look pale, dull like Sita scorched by the heat of the Sun.
prakṛtyā śītalasparśō himaviddhaśca sāmpratam.

pravāti paścimō vāyuḥ kālē dviguṇaśītalaḥ৷৷3.16.15৷৷


prakṛtyā by nature, śītalasparśaḥ cold touch, sāmpratam at this time, himaviddhaśca hit by snow, paścimaḥ vāyuḥ the west wind, kālē at this time, dviguṇaśītalaḥ doubly cold, vāti blowing.

The west wind which by nature feels cold at this time blows doubly cold, hit by snow.
vāṣpacchannānyaraṇyāni yavagōdhūmavanti ca.

śōbhantē.bhyuditē sūryē nadbhi krauñcasārasaiḥ৷৷3.16.16৷৷


vāṣpacchannāni covered by dew drops, yavagōdhūmavanti ca have abundant barley and wheat crops,
araṇyāni forests, sūryē Sun, abhyuditē rises, nadbhi: produce notes, krauñcasārasaiḥ by kraunchas and swans, śōbhantē are delightful.

The snow-cold forest terrains are fertile with barley and wheat crops. As the Sun rises the swans and kraunchas produce pleasing notes.
kharjūrapuṣpākṛtibhiśśirōbhiḥ pūrṇataṇḍulaiḥ.

śōbhantē kiñcidānamrāśśālayaḥ kanakaprabhāḥ৷৷3.16.17৷৷


kanakaprabhāḥ shining like gold, śālayaḥ rice fields, kharjūrapuṣpākṛtibhiḥ resembling the shape of date flowers, pūrṇataṇḍulaiḥ full of ripened rice grain, śirōbhiḥ with heads of paddy stocks,kiñcit slightly, ānamrā bent down, śōbhantē look delightful,

The tops of rice crops shining like gold resemble the flowers of date-palm.The fields full of ripe paddy bending a little (under the weight of grains) look delightful.
mayūkhairupasarpadbhirhimanīhārasaṅvṛtaiḥ.

dūramabhyuditassūryaśśaśāṅka iva lakṣyatē৷৷3.16.18৷৷


himanīhārasaṅvṛtaiḥ covered with snow and dew, upasarpadbhi: lengthening, mayūkhaiḥ by rays, sūryaḥ Sun, dūram yonder, abhyuditaḥ risen up, śaśāṅkaḥ Moon, iva like, lakṣyatē appears.

The Sun risen at the distant horizon looks like the Moon, his lengthening rays covered with snow and dew.
agrāhyavīryaḥ pūrvāhṇē madhyāhnē sparśatassukhaḥ.

saṅraktaḥ kiñcidāpāṇḍurātapaśśōbhatē kṣitau৷৷3.16.19৷৷


pūrvāhṇē in the forenoon, agrāhyavīryaḥ when his(Sun's) heat cannot be felt, madhyāhnē at mid-day, sparśataḥ by touch, sukhaḥ comfortable, saṅraktaḥ red, kiṅcit a little, āpāṇḍuḥ whitish, ātapaḥ heat, kṣitau on earth, śōbhatē is delightful.

The heat of the Sun which we do not feel in the forenoon is comfortable during mid-day when the Sun shines slightly reddish white on earth.
avaśyāyanipātēna kiñcitpraklinnaśādvalā.

vanānāṅ śōbhatē bhūmirniviṣṭataruṇātapā৷৷3.16.20৷৷


avaśyāyanipātēna with dewdrops fallen, kiñcit a little, praklinnaśādvalā the grassland wet with frost, niviṣṭataruṇātapā with mild heat on the surface, vanānām the forests, bhūmiḥ land, śōbhatē looks delightful.

As the miadows are wet with dewdrops, the land looks delightful with mild Sunlight shining on the surface.
spṛśaṅstu vimalaṅ śītamudakaṅ dviradassukham.

atyantatṛṣitō vanyaḥ pratisaṅharatē karam৷৷3.16.21৷৷


atyantatṛṣitaḥ extremely thirsty, vanyaḥ wild , dviradaḥ tusker, vimalam pure water, śītam cool, udakam water, sukham joyfully, spṛśan for touch, karam trunk of elephant, pratisaṅharatē takes back.

The wild tusker, extremely thirsty, touches the clean, cold water joyfully, but immediately withdraws its trunk unable to bear the cold.
ētē hi samupāsīnā vihagā jalacāriṇaḥ.

nāvagāhanti salilamapragalbhā ivāhavam৷৷3.16.22৷৷


samupāsīnāḥ seated nearby, ētē these, jalacāriṇaḥ aquatic, vihagāḥ birds, apragalbhāḥ inefficient ones, āhavam iva as to the battlefield, salilam water, nāvagāhanti not plunging into.

Just as inefficient warriors do not enter the warfield, aquatic birds sitting near water do not venture to take a plunge into it.
avaśyāyatamōnaddhā nīhāratamasā.vṛtāḥ.

prasuptā iva lakṣyantē vipuṣpā vanarājayaḥ৷৷3.16.23৷৷


avaśyāyatamōnaddhāḥ enveloped by the darkness of frost ( at dawn), nīhāratamasā with the darkness of snow, āvṛtāḥ covered, vipuṣpāḥ without flowers, vanarājayaḥ the forest ranges, prasuptāḥ iva as if sleeping, lakṣyantē appear.

The flowerless forest ranges appear as if they are asleep, enveloped in the darkness of frost and snow .
bāṣpasañchannasalilā rutavijñēyasārasāḥ.

himārdravālukaistīraissaritō bhānti sāmpratam৷৷3.16.24৷৷


sāmpratam now, bāṣpasañchannasalilāḥ waters covered with vapour, rutavijñēyasārasāḥ inferred from the cackling of swans, saritaḥ river, himārdravālukaiḥ with sands drenched with snow, tīraiḥ river banks,bhānti appear.

Now the rivers are not visible as the waters are covered with vapour. They are only inferred through the cackling of swans and the sands of the bank moistened with dew-drops.
tuṣārapatanāccaiva mṛdutvādbhāskarasya ca.

śaityādagāgrasthamapi prāyēṇa rasavajjalam৷৷3.16.25৷৷


tuṣārapatanāccaiva due to snowfall, bhāskarasya Sun's, mṛdutvāt owing to mildness, śaityāt caused by coldness, rasavat tasty, jalam water, agāgrasthamapi although flowing from top of the mountain, prāyēṇa generally.

Due to snowfall, mildness of the Sun, and coldness (of weather) even the water flowing from the mountain top is not generally tasty.
jarājarjaritaiḥ padmaiśaśīrṇakēsarakarṇikaiḥ.

nālaṣērhimadhvassairna bhanti kamalākarāḥ৷৷3.16.26৷৷


kamalākarāḥ lotus-tanks, jarājarjaritaiḥ grey with age, śīrṇakēsarakarṇikaiḥ with filament and pericarp withered, nālaśēṣaiḥ only stalks remaining, himadhvastaiḥ destroyed by snow, padmaiḥ by lotuses, na bhānti are not shining.

The lotuses in the tank no more shine (bright) as they are decayed by age, their filaments and pericarps withered with only stalks remaining.
asmiṅstu puruṣavyāghraḥ kālē duḥkhasamanvitaḥ.

tapaścarati dharmātmā tvadbhaktyā bharataḥ purē৷৷3.16.27৷৷


asmin kālē at such a time, puruṣavyāghraḥ tiger among men, dharmātmā righteous self, bharataḥ Bharata, duḥkhasamanvitaḥ sadly, tvadbhaktyā for his devotion to you, purē at his residence, tapaḥ penance, carati is performing.

At this time, righteous Bharata, the best among men, with his devotion to you must be sadly performing penance at his residence.
tyaktvā rājyaṅ ca mānaṅ ca bhōgāṅśca vividhānbahūn.

tapassvī niyatāhāraśśētē śītē mahītalē৷৷3.16.28৷৷


rājyaṅ ca the kingdom, mānam honour, vividhān various, bahūn many, bhōgāṅśca pleasures, tyaktvā after giving up, tapassvī as an asectic, niyatāhāraḥ controlling food, śītē in cold, mahītalē on the ground, śētē will be sleeping.

Giving up his kingdom, honour and pleasures of many kinds, Bharata will be living like an ascetic, sleeping on the ground in cold weather, his food under restriction.
sō.pi vēlāmimāṅ nūnamabhiṣēkārthamudyataḥ.

vṛtaḥ prakṛtibhirnityaṅ prayāti sarayūṅ nadīm৷৷3.16.29৷৷


sō.pi Bharata also, imāṅ vēlām at this time, abhiṣēkārtham for ablution, udyataḥ intending to, prakṛtibhiḥ by his subjects, vṛtaḥ surrounded by, nityam daily, sarayūṅ nadīm in river Sarayu, prayāti goes forth, nūnam surely.

At this time, Bharata, accompanied by his subjects, must be daily going to river Sarayu for ablution.
atyantasukhasaṅvṛddhassukumārassukhōcitaḥ.

kathaṅ nvapararātrēṣu sarayūmavagāhatē৷৷3.16.30৷৷


atyantasukhasaṅvṛddhaḥ brought up in comfort, sukumāraḥ delicate, sukhōcitaḥ deserving comfort, apararātrēṣu in the later part of the night, kathaṅ nu how can, sarayūm to Sarayu, avagāhatē for a dip.

How can Bharata who was brought up in luxury, who is delicate, and deserves all comfort, take a dip in river Sarayu (in cold morning) ?
padmapatrēkṣaṇō vīraśśyāmō nirudarō mahān.

dharmajña ssatyavādī ca hrīniṣēdhō jitēndriyaḥ৷৷3.16.31৷৷

priyābhibhāṣī madhurō dīrghabāhurarindamaḥ.

santyajya vividhānbhōgānāryaṅ sarvātmanā śritaḥ৷৷3.16.32৷৷


padmapatrēkṣaṇaḥ with eyes like lotus petals, vīraḥ valiant, śyāmaḥ of blue complexion, nirudaraḥ of thin waist, mahān great, dharmajñaḥ knower of his duty, satyavādī ca truthful, hrīniṣēdhaḥ one who maintains a low profile, jitēndriyaḥ self- controlled, priyābhibhāṣī soft-spoken, madhuraḥ sweet in temperament, dīrghabāhuḥ long-armed, arindamaḥ a subduer of enemies, vividhān diverse, bhōgān pleasures, santyajya giving up, sarvātmanā with all his efforts, āryam your, śritaḥ devoted to.

He has a blue complexion, a pair of eyes like lotus petals, a thin waist and long arms.
He is self-restrained, soft-spoken, sweet-tempered and truthful. He knows his duty and maintains a low profile. A subduer of enemies, he is heroic and great. Such Bharata has given up the diverse pleasures of life and has surrendered himself to you with all his soul.
jitassvargastava bhrātrā bharatēna mahātmanā.

vanasthamapi tāpasyē yastvāmanuvidhīyatē৷৷3.16.33৷৷


yaḥ who, vanasthamapi dwelling in the forest, tvām yourself, tāpasyē in adopting asceticism, anuvidhīyatē faithfully follows, tava bhrātrā your brother, mahātmanā great self, bharatēna by Bharata, svargaḥ heaven, jitaḥ won.

Although you dwell in the forest, your great brother Bharata has won the kingdom of heaven by faithfully adopting your asceticism.
na pitryamanuvartantē mātṛkaṅ dvipadā iti.

khyātō lōkapravādō.yaṅ bharatēnānyathā kṛtaḥ৷৷3.16.34৷৷


dvipadāḥ humans, pitryam father's, na anuvartantē do not follow, mātṛkam mother's, iti this way, khyātaḥ well-known, ayam this, lōkapravādaḥ saying in the world, bharatēna by Bharata, anyathā otherwise, kṛtaḥ is rendered.

The saying that men follow mother's path but not the path of the father, has been disproved by Bharata.
bhartā daśarathō yasyāssādhuśca bharatassutaḥ.

kathaṅ nu sā.mbā kaikēyī tādṛśī krūraśīlinī৷৷3.16.35৷৷


yasyāḥ whose, daśarathaḥ Dasaratha, bhartā husband, sādhuḥ noble, bharataḥ Bharata, sutaḥ son, sā she, ambā mother, kaikēyī Kaikeyi, tādṛśī such a lady, krūraśīlinī a woman of wicked nature, kathaṅ nu how did it happen?

How could mother Kaikeyi, who has a husband like Dasaratha and a noble son like Bharata, be so wicked by nature ?
ityēvaṅ lakṣmaṇē vākyaṅ snēhādbruvati dhārmikē.

parivādaṅ jananyāstamasahanrāghavō.bravīt৷৷3.16.36৷৷


dhārmikē generous, lakṣmaṇē Lakshmana, snēhāt out of love, ityēvam in this way, vākyam words, bruvatē as he was uttering, rāghavaḥ Rama, jananyāḥ mother's, tam him, parivādam censure, asahan unable to tolerate, abravīt said.

When pious Lakshmana said thus to Rama out of his love for him, Rama replied, unable to tolerate the words of censure against mother (Kaikeyi) :
sa tē.mbā madhyamā tāta garhitavyā kathañcana.

tāmēvēkṣvākunāthasya bharatasya kathāṅ kuru৷৷3.16.37৷৷


tāta dear, madhyamā middle, ambā mother, kathañcana never, tē by you, na garhitavyā not to be criticised, ikṣvākunāthasya of the lord of the Ikshvakus, bharatasya Bharata's, tāṅ kathāmēva about him, kuru you may.

O dear, Kaikeyi, our second mother, is never to be criticised like that. You may, however, speak more of Bharata, the lord of the Iksvakus.
niścitā.pi hi mē buddhirvanavāsē dṛḍhavratā.

bharatasnēhasantaptā bāliśīkriyatē punaḥ৷৷3.16.38৷৷


mē my, buddhi: mind, niścitāpi even though determined, vanavāsē to dwell in the forest, dṛḍhavratā firmly to keep my vow, bharatasnēhasantaptā concern for his love of Bharata, punaḥ again, bāliśīkriyatē waver like a child.

Even though I have made up my mind to dwell in the forest and keep my vow, my love for Bharata makes me waver like a child (Rama does not want Bharata to suffer on his
account).
saṅsmarāmyasya vākyāni priyāṇi madhurāṇi ca.

hṛdyānyamṛtakalpāni manaḥprahlādanāni ca৷৷3.16.39৷৷


priyāṇi dear, madhurāṇi sweet, hṛdyāni soothing to the heart, amṛtakalpāni ambrosial, manaḥprahlādanāni ca that which pleases the mind, asya vākyāni his words, saṅsmarāmi I remember.

I remember his dear, sweet, ambrosial words, soothing to the heart and pleasing to the mind.
kadānvahaṅ samēṣyāmi bharatēna mahātmanā.

śatrughnēna ca vīrēṇa tvayā ca raghunandana৷৷3.16.40৷৷


raghunandana enhancer of joy of the Raghus, aham I am, mahātmanā by the great self, bharatēna by Bharata, vīrēṇa by the brave, śatrughnēna ca and Satrughna, tvayā ca and by you, kadā nu indeed, samēṣyāmi come together.

O enhancer of joy of the Raghus ! when shall I meet great Bharata, brave Satrughna and you all together?
ityēvaṅ vilapaṅstatra prāpya gōdāvarīṅ nadīm.

cakrē.bhiṣēkaṅ kākutsthassānujassaha sītayā৷৷3.16.41৷৷


kākutstha: Kakutstha, (Rama) tatra there, sa ityēvam he in that manner, vilapan crying aloud, gōdāvarīṅ nadīm to river Godavari, prāpya having reached, sānujaḥ with his brother, sītayā saha and with Sita, abhiṣēkam bath, cakrē took.

Expressing his grief in such manner, Rama reached Godavari where he took his bath with his brother and Sita.
tarpayitvā.tha salilaistē pitṛndaivatāni ca.

stuvanti smōditaṅ sūryaṅ dēvatāśca samāhitāḥ৷৷3.16.42৷৷


atha and then, tē they, salilaiḥ with water, pitṛn forefathers, daivatāni ca and gods, tarpayitvā offered oblations, uditam risen, sūryam Sun, dēvatāśca deities also, samāhitāḥ poised together, stuvanti sma sang in praise.

And then poised, they offered libations of water to their forefathers and gods and prayer to the rising Sun.
kṛtābhiṣēkassararāja rāmaḥ sītādvitīyassaha lakṣmaṇēna.

kṛtābhiṣēkō girirājaputryā rudrassanandī bhagavānivēśaḥ৷৷3.16.43৷৷


sītādvitīyaḥ accompanied by Sita, saḥ rāmaḥ that Rama, kṛtābhiṣēkaḥ completing his bath, sahalakṣmaṇēna along with Lakshmana, girirājaputryā with the daughter of the king of the mountains, kṛtābhiṣēkaḥ ablution over, sanandī along with Nandi, īśaḥ Isvara, rudraḥ iva like Rudra, rarāja shone.

Accompanied by Sita and Lakshmana,Rama finished his bath in the river.He looked splendid like Lord Rudra followed by Nandi and the daughter of the king of the mountains (Parvati).
ityārṣē śrīmadrāmāyaṇē vālmīkīya ādikāvyē araṇyakāṇḍē ṣōḍaśassargaḥ৷৷
Thus ends the sixteenth sarga of Aranyakanda of the holy Ramayana the first epic composed by sage Valmiki.
