ರಾಮಾಭಿಮುಖಮ್ approaching Rama, ಪ್ರಯಾನ್ತಮ್ marching towards, ಖರಮ್ Khara, ವಾಹಿನೀಪತಿಃ chief of army, ತ್ರಿಶಿರಾಃ Trisira, ನಾಮ by name, ರಾಕ್ಷಸಃ demon, ಸನ್ನಿಪತ್ಯ going near, ಇದಮ್ these words, ಅಬ್ರವೀತ್ spoke.
As Khara advanced towards Rama, Trisira the chief of the army approached him and said these words:
ಮಾಂ ನಿಯೋಜಯ ವಿಕ್ರಾನ್ತ ಸನ್ನಿವರ್ತಸ್ವ ಸಾಹಸಾತ್.
ಪಶ್ಯ ರಾಮಂ ಮಹಾಬಾಹುಂ ಸಂಯುಗೇ ವಿನಿಪಾತಿತಮ್৷৷3.27.2৷৷

ವಿಕ್ರಾನ್ತಃ valiant Khara, ಮಾಮ್ me, ನಿಯೋಜಯ assign, ಸಾಹಸಾತ್ audacity, ನಿವರ್ತಸ್ವ put down, ಸಂಯುಗೇ in the combat, ವಿನಿಪಾತಿತಮ್ thrown down, ಮಹಾಬಾಹುಮ್ mighty-armed , ರಾಮಮ್ Rama, ಪಶ್ಯ you can see.
O valiant one! assign this work to me. Refrain from this audacity. See how I am going to put down the mighty-armed Rama in the battle.

ಅಹಮ್ I, ತೇ to you, ಸತ್ಯಮ್ truth, ಪ್ರತಿಜಾನಾಮಿ I promise, ಆಯುಧಂ ಚ on my weapon, ಆಲಭೇ I am touching, ಯಥಾ as, ಸರ್ವರಕ್ಷಸಾಮ್ of all demons, ವಧಾರ್ಹಮ್ should be slain, ರಾಮಮ್ Rama, ವಧಿಷ್ಯಾಮಿ I will kill.
I promise you on my weapon that I will kill Rama.He who killed all demons deserves to be slain.

ರಾಮೇ when Rama, ಹತೇ is killed, ಪ್ರಹೃಷ್ಟಃ with joy, ಜನಸ್ಥಾನಮ್ to Janasthanam, ಪ್ರಯಾಸ್ಯಸಿ ವಾ you will go or else, ಮಯಿ ವಾ when myself, ನಿಹತೇ am killed, ಸಂಯುಗಾಯ to the fight, ರಾಮಮ್ Rama, ಉಪಯಾಸ್ಯಸಿ ವಾ you can fight.
If Rama is killed be happy and go to Janasthana or else if I am killed you can fight.

ಖರಃ Khara, ತೇನ by him, ತ್ರಿಶಿರಸಾ by Trisira, ಮೃತ್ಯುಲೋಭಾತ್ due to eagerness to face death, ಪ್ರಸಾದಿತಃ persuaded, ಗಚ್ಛ you may go, ಯುಧ್ಯ you may fight, ಇತಿ thus, ಅನುಜ್ಞಾತಃ permitted, ರಾಘವಾಭಿಮುಖಃ forward to Rama, ಯಯೌ he went.
When Khara was prevailed upon by Trisara in that manner with a wish to face death, Khara permitted him by saying 'You may go and fight'.Accordingly he advanced towards Rama.

ತ್ರಿಶಿರಾಶ್ಚ Trisira also, ವಾಜಿಯುಕ್ತೇನ horses harnessed, ಭಾಸ್ವತಾ shining, ರಥೇನೈವ in a chariot, ತ್ರಿಶೃಙ್ಗಃ three peaked Trishringa, ಪರ್ವತಃ ಇವ mountain like, ರಣೇ in war, ರಾಮಮ್ Rama, ಅಭ್ಯದ್ರವತ್ attacked.
Trisira who looked a mountain with three peaks also got horses harnessed to a shining chariot and to attack Rama proceeded.

ಸಃ that Trisira, ಮಹಾಮೇಘ ಇವ like a huge cloud, ಶರಧಾರಾಸಮೂಹಾನ್ streams of arrows, ಉತ್ಸೃಜನ್ unleashing, ಜಲಾರ್ದ್ರಸ್ಯ drenched with water, ದುನ್ದುಭೇಃ of the drum, ಸದೃಶಮ್ similar, ನಾದಮ್ sound, ವ್ಯಸೃಜತ್ released.
Trisira unleashed a stream of arrows like a huge cloud (releasing rain). They produced sound, a drum drenched with water, creates.
ಆಗಚ್ಛನ್ತಂ ತ್ರಿಶಿರಸಂ ರಾಕ್ಷಸಂ ಪ್ರೇಕ್ಷ್ಯ ರಾಘವಃ.

On seeing demon Trisira advancing towards him, Rama shook sharp arrows off his bow.

The tumultuous combat between Rama and Trisira looked like the strong fight between a lion and an elephant.
ತತಸ್ತ್ರಿಶಿರಸಾ ಬಾಣೈರ್ಲಲಾಟೇ ತಾಡಿತಸ್ತ್ರಿಭಿಃ.
ಆಮರ್ಷೀ ಕುಪಿತೋರಾಮಸ್ಸಂರಬ್ಧಮಿದಮಬ್ರವೀತ್৷৷3.27.11৷৷

ತತಃ then, ಅಮರ್ಷೀ intolerant, ರಾಮಃ Rama, ತ್ರಿಶಿರಸಾ by Trisira, ತ್ರಿಭಿಃ with three, ಬಾಣೈಃ arrows, ಲಲಾಟೇ on the forehead, ತಾಡಿತಃ was hit, ಕುಪಿತಃ a furious one, ಸಂರಬ್ಧಮ್ very agitated, ಇದಮ್ this way, ಅಬ್ರವೀತ್ he said.
Then Rama hit with three arrows on the forehead by Trisira flew into a fury and said in a state of great excitement:
ಅಹೋ ವಿಕ್ರಮಶೂರಸ್ಯ ರಾಕ್ಷಸಸ್ಯೇದೃಶಂ ಬಲಮ್.
ಪುಷ್ಪೈರಿವ ಶರೈರ್ಯಸ್ಯ ಲಲಾಟೇಸ್ಮಿನ್ಪರಿಕ್ಷತಃ৷৷3.27.12৷৷

ಅಹೋ Oh!, ವಿಕ್ರಮಶೂರಸ್ಯ of an undaunted hero, ರಾಕ್ಷಸಸ್ಯ of the demon, ಬಲಮ್ strength, ಈದೃಶಮ್ this amount, ಯಸ್ಯ his, ಶರೈಃ with arrows, ಪುಷ್ಪೈರಿವ with flowers, ಅಸ್ಮಿನ್ ಲಲಾಟೇ this forehead, ಪರಿಕ್ಷತಃ scratched.
Oh! see the strength of this undaunted demon whose arrows fell like flowers on my forehead and only left a scratch.
ಮಮಾಪಿ ಪ್ರತಿಗೃಹ್ಣೀಷ್ವ ಶರಾಂಶ್ಚಾಪಗುಣಾಚ್ಚ್ಯುತಾನ್.

ಮಮ my, ಚಾಪಗುಣಾತಚ್ಚ್ಯುತಾನ್ released from the string of the bow, ಶರಾನಪಿ arrows too, ಪ್ರತಿಗೃಹ್ಣೀಷ್ವ you may receive, ಏವಮ್ in that manner, ಉಕ್ತ್ವಾ having said, ಸಂರಬ್ಧಃ agitated, ಕ್ರುದ್ಧಃ angry, ಅಶೀವಿಷೋಪಮಾನ್ like the poison of a venomous snake, ಚತುರ್ದಶ fourteen, ಶರಾನ್ arrows, ತ್ರಿಶಿರೋವಕ್ಷಸಿ on the chest of Trisira, ನಿಜಘಾನ hit.
Receive the arrows released from my bow-string. Saying so, the angry and agitated Rama discharged fourteen arrows, venomous like a snake, on the chest of Trisira .

ತೇಜಸ್ವೀ mighty man, ಸನ್ನತಪರ್ವಭಿಃ with those having strong joints, ಚತುರ್ಭಿಃ with four, ಶರೈಃ with arrows, ತಸ್ಯ his, ಅಸ್ಯ his (Rama's), ತುರಗಾನ್ swift, ಚತುರಃ four, ವಾಜಿನಃ horses, ನ್ಯಪಾತಯತ threw down.
With four arrows having strong joints, the mighty hero (Rama) threw down his enemy's four swift-footed horses.
ಅಷ್ಟಭಿಸ್ಸಾಯಕೈಸ್ಸೂತಂ ರಥೋಪಸ್ಥಾನ್ನ್ಯಪಾತಯತ್৷৷3.27.15৷৷
ರಾಮಶ್ಚಿಚ್ಛೇದ ಬಾಣೇನ ಧ್ವಜಂ ಚಾಸ್ಯ ಸಮುಚ್ಛ್ರಿತಮ್.

ರಾಮಃ Rama, ಅಷ್ಟಭಿಃ with eight, ಸಾಯಕೈಃ arrows, ಸೂತಮ್ charioteer, ರಥೋಪಸ್ಥಾತ್ from the top of the chariot, ನ್ಯಪಾತಯತ್ brought down, ಬಾಣೇನ by one dart, ಅಸ್ಯ his, ಸಮುಚ್ಛ್ರಿತಮ್ very lofty, ಧ್ವಜಮ್ banner, ಚಿಚ್ಛೇದ shattered to pieces.
Rama brought down the charioteer with eight arrows and with one tore down the lofty banner of the chariot to shreds.
ತತೋ ಹತರಥಾತ್ತಸ್ಮಾದುತ್ಪತನ್ತಂ ನಿಶಾಚರಮ್৷৷3.27.16৷৷
ಬಿಭೇದ ರಾಮಸ್ತಂ ಬಾಣೈರ್ಹೃದಯೇ ಸೋಭವಜ್ಜಡಃ.

ತತಃ then, ರಾಮಃ Rama, ತಸ್ಮಾತ್ from that, ಹತರಥಾತ್ from a broken chariot, ಉತ್ಪತನ್ತಮ್ one who was running away, ತಂ ನಿಶಾಚರಮ್ that demon, ಬಾಣೈಃ with arrows, ಹೃದಯೇ in the chest, ಬಿಭೇದ hit, ಸಃ he, ಜಡಃ a numb man, ಅಭವತ್ became.
Rama then hit the demon with arrows on his chest while he was running away from the broken chariot. The demon became numb.
ಸಾಯಕೈಶ್ಚಾಪ್ರಮೇಯಾತ್ಮಾ ಸಾಮರ್ಷಸ್ತಸ್ಯ ರಕ್ಷಸಃ৷৷3.27.17৷৷
ಶಿರಾಂಸ್ಯಪಾತಯದ್ರಾಮೋ ವೇಗವದ್ಭಿಸ್ತ್ರಿಭಿಶ್ಶಿತೈಃ.

The mighty Rama in fury dismembered the heads of that demon with three sharp and swift arrows.

ನ್ಯಪತತ್ಪತಿತೈಃ ಪೂರ್ವಂ ಸ್ವಶಿರೋಭಿರ್ನಿಶಾಚರಃ.

ರಾಮಬಾಣಾಭಿಪೀಡಿತಃ hit by the arrows of Rama, ಸಃ ನಿಶಾಚರಃ that demon, ರುಧಿರೋದ್ಗಾರೀ vomitting blood, ಪೂರ್ವಮ್ a little while ago, ಪತಿತೈಃ fallen down, ಸ್ವಶಿರೋಭಿಃ with his heads, ನ್ಯಪತತ್ fell down.
The demon with his heads decapitated, hit by Rama's arrows a little while ago, fell down, vomitting blood.

ದ್ರವನ್ತಿ ಸ್ಮ ನ ತಿಷ್ಠನ್ತಿ ವ್ಯಾಘ್ರತ್ರಸ್ತಾ ಮೃಗಾ ಇವ.

ತತಃ then, ಖರಸಂಶ್ರಯಾ under the protection of Khara, ಹತಶೇಷಾಃ surviving, ರಾಕ್ಷಸಾಃ demons, ಭಗ್ನಾಃ with broken hearts, ವ್ಯಾಘ್ರತಸ್ತಾಃ those scared of tiger, ಮೃಗಾಃ ಯಥಾ like deer, ದ್ರವನ್ತಿ ಸ್ಮ fast retreated, ನ ತಿಷ್ಠನ್ತಿ did not stop.
Those surviving demons who were under the protection of Khara got scared and retreated fast and fled like deer frightened by a tiger.

Personally persuading the fleeing army to come back, the angry Khara leaped forward towards Rama just as Rahu approaches the moon.
