[Cremation of Kabandha-- his reappearance in the sky-- tells Rama to make friendship with Sugriva.]

ఏవముక్తౌతు తౌ వీరౌ కబన్ధేన నరేశ్వరౌ.

గిరిప్రదరమాసాద్య పావకం విససర్జతుః৷৷3.72.1৷৷


కబన్ధేన by Kabandha, ఏవమ్ in that manner, ఉక్తౌ having been advised, నరేశ్వరౌ two kings, తౌ వీరౌ the two heroes, గిరిప్రదరమ్ mountain cave, ఆసాద్య reached, పావకమ్ fire, విససర్జతుః lighted.

Thus said by Kabandha, the two lords of men, the heroes reached a cave in the mountain and lighted the fire.
లక్ష్మణస్తు మహోల్కాభిర్జ్వలితాభిస్సమన్తతః.

చితామాదీపయామాస సా ప్రజజ్వాల సర్వతః৷৷3.72.2৷৷


లక్ష్మణస్తు Lakshmana himself, జ్వలితాభిః with burning, మహోల్కాభిః with big meteor-like logs, సమన్తతః all round, చితామ్ pyre, ఆదీపయామాస set fire, సర్వతః on all sides, ప్రజజ్వాల lighted.

Lakshmana lit the pyre with big meteor-like logs on all sides and it burned.
తచ్ఛరీరం కబన్ధస్య ఘృతపిణ్డోపమం మహత్.

మేదసా పచ్యమానస్య మన్దం దహతి పావకః৷৷3.72.3৷৷


మేదసా with flesh, పచ్యమానస్య as the corpse was burning, కబన్ధస్య Kabandha's, మహత్ great, ఘృతపిణ్డోపమమ్ like a huge ball of ghee, తత్ that, శరీరమ్ body, పావకః the fire, మన్దమ్ slowly, దహతి burnt.

As the flesh of Kabandha's body decomposed, if burnt slowly in the fire although it
was like a huge mass of fat.
స విధూయ చితామాశు విధూమోగ్నిరివోత్థితః.

అరజే వాససీ బిభ్రన్మాలాం దివ్యాం మహాబలః৷৷3.72.4৷৷


మహాబలః very strong , సః he, అరజే clean, వాససీ pair of clothes, దివ్యామ్ divine, మాలామ్ garland, బిభ్రత్ wearing, చితామ్ from the pyre, విధూయ shaking, ఆశు immediately, విధూమః smokeless, అగ్నిరివ like fire, ఉత్థితః he rose up.

Mighty Kabandha shook himself off the funeral pyre and rose like smokeless fire, wearing a pair of clean clothes and a divine garland.
తతశ్చితాయా వేగేన భాస్వరో విమలామ్బరః.

ఉత్పపాతాశు సంహృష్టస్సర్వప్రత్యఙ్గభూషణః৷৷3.72.5৷৷


తతః thereafter, భాస్వరః shining brightly, విమలామ్బరః wearing clean clothes, సంహృష్టః happily, సర్వప్రత్యఙ్గభూషణః limbs adorned with ornaments, ఆశు instantaneously, వేగేన speedily, చితాయాః from the pyre, ఉత్పపాత came out.

Thereafter shining brightly in pure clothes and wearing ornaments all over the body, Kabandha hurtled out happily and instantaneously from the pyre.
విమానే భాస్వరే తిష్ఠన్హంసయుక్తే యశస్కరే.

ప్రభయా చ మహాతేజా దిశో దశ విరాజయన్৷৷3.72.6৷৷

సోన్తరిక్షగతో రామం కబన్ధో వాక్యమబ్రవీత్.

శృణు రాఘవ తత్త్వేన యథా సీతామవాప్స్యసి৷৷3.72.7৷৷


సః కబన్ధః he, Kabandha, అన్తరిక్షగతః reached the sky, హంసయుక్తే harnessed by swans, యశస్కరే famous, భాస్వరే shining, విమానే in an aerial chariot, తిష్ఠన్ seated, మహాతేజాః a brilliant one, ప్రభయా with glow, దశ దిశః all the ten directions, విరాజయన్ illumining, రామమ్ Rama,
వాక్యమ్ words, అబ్రవీత్ said, రాఘవ Raghava, సీతామ్ Sita, యథా as, అవాప్స్యసి you will be getting her, తత్త్వేన truly, శృణు listen.

The effulgent Kabandha rose into the sky on a famous aerial chariot harnessed to swans. Seated on it, he illuminated all ten directions and spoke from the sky,'O Raghava I will truly tell you how you will get Sita, listen to me'.
రామ షడ్యుక్తయో లోకే యాభిస్సర్వం విమృశ్యతే.

పరిమృష్టో దశాన్తేన దశాభాగేన సేవ్యతే৷৷3.72.8৷৷


రామ Rama, యాభిః by those, సర్వమ్ all, విమృశ్యతే is tested, షట్ యుక్తయః six expedients, లోకే in the world, దశాన్తేన when one crosses that period, పరిమృష్టః a man's test, దశాభాగేన met with bad luck, సేవ్యతే he will be served.

O Rama! there are six expedients (peace,war,marching,neutrality, alliance, making peace with one and waging war with another, for attaining your goal in the world. Only the unlucky can help the unfortunate.
దశాభాగగతో హీనస్త్వం హి రామ సలక్ష్మణః.

యత్కృతే వ్యసనం ప్రాప్తం త్వయా దారప్రధర్షణమ్৷৷.3.72.9৷৷


రామ Rama, సలక్ష్మణః along with Lakshmana, త్వమ్ you, దశాభాగగతః going through a part of such bad period, హీనః low ebb, యత్కృతే by that , త్వయా by you, దారప్రధర్షణమ్ abduction of wife, వ్యసనమ్ sorrow, ప్రాప్తమ్ obtained.

Along with Lakshmna you are passing through a bad period on account of which your wife has been kidnapped and you, lying low, are experiencing great grief, O Rama !
తదవశ్యం త్వయా కార్యస్ససుహృత్సుహృదాం వర.

అకృత్వా హి న తే సిద్ధిమహం పశ్యామి చిన్తయన్৷৷3.72.10৷৷


సుహృదామ్ of friends, వర best one, తత్ so, సః that, త్వయా by you, అవశ్యమ్ certainly, సుహృత్ friend,
కార్యః should be done, అకృత్వా without doing so, తే to you, సిద్ధిమ్ achievement, అహమ్ I, చిన్తయన్ while I think over, న పశ్యామి I do not see.

O Rama, the best of friends ! you should certainly make friendship with him. As I think over the matter, I do not see any success if you do not adopt this method.
శ్రూయతాం రామ వక్ష్యామి సుగ్రీవో నామ వానరః.

భ్రాత్రా నిరస్తః క్రుద్ధేన వాలినా శక్రసూనునా৷৷3.72.11৷৷


రామ Rama, వక్ష్యామి l tell you, శ్రూయతామ్ listen , శక్రసూనునా by Indra's son, భ్రాత్రా by his brother, క్రుద్ధేన in a fit of anger, వాలినా by Vali, నిరస్తః banished from the kingdom, సుగ్రీవో నామ named Sugriva, వానరః monkey.

O Rama, listen. I shall tell you. A monkey named Sugriva has been banished from the kingdom in a fit of anger by his brother Vali, the son of Indra.
ఋశ్యమూకే గిరివరే పమ్పాపర్యన్తశోభితే.

నివసత్యాత్మవాన్వీరశ్చతుర్భిస్సహ వానరైః৷৷3.72.12৷৷


ఆత్మవాన్ he is a man of great self-respect, వీరః a hero, పమ్పాపర్యన్తశోభితే extending up to lake Pampa, ఋశ్యమూకే on Rishyamuka, గిరివరే the best of the mountain, చతుర్భిః with four, వానరైః సహ along with monkeys, నివసతి residing.

A hero of great self-respect, he lives with four monkeys on a beautiful mountain Rishyamuka extending up to lake Pampa.
వానరేన్ద్రో మహావీర్యస్తేజోవానమితప్రభః.

సత్యసన్ధో వినీతశ్చ ధృతిమాన్మతిమాన్మహాన్৷৷3.72.13৷৷


వానరేన్ద్రః king of monkeys, మహావీర్యః endowed with great strength, తేజోవాన్ full of valour, అమితప్రభః of limitless lustre, సత్యసన్ధః truthful, వినీతః humble, ధృతిమాన్ patient, మతిమాన్ intelligent, మహాన్ great.

This king of monkeys is energetic with great strength and limitless lustre. He is humble and truthful, valiant, patient and intelligent. He is great.
దక్షః ప్రగల్భో ద్యుతిమాన్మహాబలపరాక్రమః.

భ్రాత్రా వివాసితో రామ రాజ్యహేతోర్మహాబలః৷৷3.72.14৷৷


రామ Rama, దక్షః efficient, ప్రగల్భః eloquent, ద్యుతిమాన్ brilliant, మహాబలపరాక్రమః mighty and brave, మహాబలః very strong, రాజ్యహేతోః for the sake of kingdom, భ్రాత్రా by brother, వివాసితః is banished.

He is efficient, eloquent, brilliant. He is mighty and strong. (But) he is banished by his brother from the kingdom, O Rama !
స తే సహాయో మిత్రం చ సీతాయాః పరిమార్గణే.

భవిష్యతి హితే రామ మా చ శోకే మనః కృథాః৷৷3.72.15৷৷


రామ O Rama, సః he, తే your, మిత్రమ్ friend, సీతాయాః Sita's, పరిమార్గణే in searching, సహాయః helpful, హితే in the welfare, భవిష్యతి he will be, శోకే in sorrow, మనః your mind, మా కృథాః not indulge.

O Rama! he will help you as a benevolent friend in searching out Sita. Do not indulge in sorrow.
భవితవ్యం హి యచ్చాపి న తచ్ఛక్యమిహాన్యథా.

కర్తుమిక్ష్వాకుశార్దూల కాలో హి దురతిక్రమః৷৷3.72.16৷৷


ఇక్ష్వాకుశార్దూల best of the Ikshvaku dynasty, యచ్చాపి whatever, భవితవ్యమ్ has to happen, తత్ that, అన్యథా otherwise, కర్తుమ్ to do, న శక్యమ్ is not possible, కాలః time, దురతిక్రమః హి cannot be transgressed.

O best of the Ikshvaku race! whatever is due to happen cannot be otherwise. It is not
possible to transgress time (fate).
గచ్ఛ శ్రీఘ్రమితో రామ సుగ్రీవం తం మహాబలమ్.

వయస్యం తం కురు క్షిప్రమితో గత్వాద్య రాఘవ৷৷3.72.17৷৷

అద్రోహాయ సమాగమ్య దీప్యమానే విభావసౌ.


రామ Rama, ఇతః thus, శ్రీఘ్రమ్ swiftly, మహాబలమ్ mighty, తం సుగ్రీవమ్ to that Sugriva, గచ్ఛ reach, రాఘవ Rama, అద్య today, ఇతః from here, క్షిప్రమ్ quickly, గత్వా having gone, అద్రోహాయ make alliance without any malice, విభావసౌ the fire, దీప్యమానే is burning, తమ్ with him, వయస్యమ్ friend, కురు you do.

O Rama, immediately proceed today from here to mighty Sugriva. Having reached him, make him your friend without malice in the presence of burning fire.
స చ తే నావమన్తవ్యస్సుగ్రీవో వానరాధిపః৷৷3.72.18৷৷

కృతజ్ఞః కామరూపీ చ సహాయార్థీ చ వీర్యవాన్.


వానరాధిపః (అపి సన్) king of the monkeys, సః సుగ్రీవః that Sugriva, తే by you, నావమన్తవ్యః not to be insulted, కృతజ్ఞః a grateful one, కామరూపీ చ he can take any form at will, సహాయార్థీ చ he seeks your help, వీర్యవాన్ strong.

Thinking that Sugriva is only a vanara king, he should not be disrespected. He has a sense of gratitude. He can take any form at will. He is in need of your help although he is very strong.
శక్తౌహ్యద్య యువాం కర్తుం కార్యం తస్య చికీర్షితమ్৷৷3.72.19৷৷

కృతార్థో వాకృతార్థో వా కృత్యం తవ కరిష్యతి.


యువామ్ you both, అద్య now, తస్య his, చికీర్షితమ్ desired, కార్యమ్ his work, కర్తుమ్ to do, శక్తౌ హి you both have the ability, కృతార్థో వా whether his work is done, అకృతార్థో వా or not done, తవ your, కృత్యమ్ work, కరిష్యతి he will do.

You are both young and able to do the work he wants. Whether his work is done or not, he will fulfil your task.
స ఋక్షరజసః పుత్రః పమ్పామటతి శఙ్కితః৷৷.3.72.20৷৷

భాస్కరస్యౌరసః పుత్రో వాలినా కృతకిల్బిషః.


ఋక్షరజసః Riksharaja's, పుత్రః son, భాస్కరస్య Sun-god's, ఔరసఃపుత్రః lawful son, సః he, వాలినా Valin, కృతకిల్బిషః developing enmity, శఙ్కితః apprehending danger, పమ్పామ్ on the banks of Pampa, అటతి roaming.

Born of Riksharaja, he is the offspring of the Sun-god. He has developed enmity with Vali, and is roaming about the banks of Pampa, suspecting danger from Vali.
సన్నిధాయాయుధం క్షిప్రమృష్యమూకాలయం కపిమ్৷৷3.72.21৷৷

కురు రాఘవ సత్యేన వయస్యం వనచారిణమ్.


రాఘవ Rama, ఆయుధమ్ weapon, సన్నిధాయ after keeping ready, వనచారిణమ్ a wanderer in the forest, ఋష్యమూకాలయమ్ dwelling on Rishyamuka, కపిమ్ monkey, సత్యేన truthfully, క్షిప్రమ్ at once, వయస్యమ్ friend, కురు make.

O Rama, with your weapons kept ready, go to Sugriva, king of the monkeys, a resident of Rishyamuka. He is wandering in the forest. Establish friendship with him.
స హి స్థానాని సర్వాణి కార్త్స్న్యేన కపికుఞ్జరః৷৷3.72.22৷৷

నరమాంసాశినాం లోకే నైపుణ్యాదధిగచ్ఛతి.


కపికుఞ్జరః foremost of monkeys, సః he, లోకే in the world, నరమాంసాశినామ్ of cannibals, సర్వాణి all, స్థానాని dwellings, కార్త్స్న్యేన entirely, నైపుణ్యాత్ with tact, అధిగచ్ఛతి హి will find and reach.

He is the foremost of the monkeys. He knows well by his wisdom all the
dwelling-places of the carnivorous demons in the world.
న తస్యావిదితం లోకేకిఞ్చిదస్తి హి రాఘవ৷৷3.72.23৷৷

యావత్సూర్యః ప్రతపతి సహస్రాంశురరిన్దమ.


అరిన్దమ O subduer of enemies, రాఘవ Rama, సహస్రాంశుః the god of a thousand rays, సూర్యః Sun, యావత్ so far, ప్రతపతి radiates, లోకే in the world, తస్య his, అవిదితమ్ unknown, కిఞ్చిత్ hardly anything, నాస్తి హి is not.

There is nothing unknown to Sugriva in this world as far as the Sun shines, O subduer of enemies!
స నదీర్విపులాన్శైలాన్ గిరిదుర్గాణి కన్దరాన్৷৷3.72.24৷৷

అన్వీక్ష్య వానరైస్సార్ధం పత్నీం తేధిగమిష్యతి.


సః he, వానరైః సార్ధమ్ along with monkeys, నదీః rivers, విపులాన్ big, శైలాన్ mountains, గిరిదుర్గాణి mountain caves, కన్దరాన్ caverns, అన్వీక్ష్య searching, తే your, పత్నీమ్ consort, అధిగమిష్యతి will find out.

Along with his monkeys, he will search all rivers, mountains and caves and will find out your consort.
వానరాంశ్చ మహాకాయాన్ప్రేషయిష్యతి రాఘవ৷৷3.72.25৷৷

దిశో విచేతుం తాం సీతాం త్వద్వియోగేన శోచతీమ్.

స జ్ఞాస్యతి వరారోహాం నిర్మలాం రావణాలయే৷৷3.72.26৷৷


రాఘవ Rama, త్వద్వియోగేన by separation from you, శోచతీమ్ brooding, తాం సీతామ్ that Sita, విచేతుమ్ to search, మహాకాయాన్ gigantic, వానరాంశ్చ monkeys, దిశః in all directions, ప్రేషయిష్యతి he will send, సః he, రావణాలయే in Ravana's home, నిర్మలామ్ chaste, వరారోహామ్ beautiful, జ్ఞాస్యతి will find out.

Sugriva will find out the lady of purity and chastity brooding over you in separation in the abode of Ravana. He can send gigantic monkeys in different directions in order to search for her.
స మేరుశృఙ్గాగ్రగతామనిన్దితాం ప్రవిశ్య పాతాలతలేపి వా శ్రితామ్.

ప్లవఙ్గమానాం ప్రవరస్తవ ప్రియాం నిహత్య రక్షాంసి పునః ప్రదాస్యతి৷৷3.72.27৷৷


ప్లవఙ్గమానామ్ of monkeys, ప్రవరః the best one, సః he, అనిన్దితామ్ a blameless, తవ ప్రియామ్ your dear consort, మేరుశృఙ్గాగ్రగతా even if on top of mount Meru, పాతాలతలే or in the nether world, శ్రితాం వాపి or gone there also, ప్రవిశ్య after reaching, రక్షాంసి demons, నిహత్య killing, పునః again, ప్రదాస్యతి he will restore to you.

Sugriva, king of the monkeys, will reach the demons and restore you that blameless, beloved consort of yours, even if she is there on top of mount Meru or in the deep underworld.
ఇత్యార్ష శ్రీమద్రామాయణే వాల్మీకీయ ఆదికావ్యే అరణ్యకాణ్డే ద్విసప్తతితమస్సర్గః৷৷
Thus ends the seventysecond sarga of Aranyakanda of the holy Ramayana the first epic composed by sage Valmiki.
