ಸಹಸೌಮಿತ್ರಿಃ accompanied by Lakshmana, ರಾಮಸ್ತು Rama too, ಸುತೀಕ್ಷ್ಣೇನ by Sutikshna, ಅಭಿಪೂಜಿತಃ worshipped by, ತತ್ರ there, ನಿಶಾಮ್ night, ಪರಿಣಾಮ್ಯ having spent, ಪ್ರಭಾತೇ early in the morning, ಪ್ರತ್ಯಬುಧ್ಯತ again got up.
Rama, worshipped by Sutikshna and accompanied by Lakshmana, spent the night at the hermitage, and got up early in the morning.

ರಾಘವಃ Rama, ಸಹಸೀತಯಾ along with Sita, ಯಥಾಕಾಲಮ್ at proper time, ಉತ್ಥಾಯ ಚ getting up, ಸುಶೀತೇನ with cold water, ಉತ್ಪಲಗನ್ಧಿನಾ fragrant like lilies or fragrant with lilies, ಜಲೇನ with water, ಉಪಾಸ್ಪೃಶತ್ took bath
In the morning Rama and Sita got up in time and took bath in cool, lily-fragrant water.

ಅಥ then, ವೈದೇಹೀ Sita, ರಾಮಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಣೌ Rama and Lakshmana, ತೇ they, ಕಾಲ್ಯಮ್ work fit for that
time, ಅಗ್ನಿಮ್ fire, ಸುರಾಂಶ್ಚೈವ the gods, ತಪಸ್ವಿಶರಣೇ refuge of ascetics, ವನೇ forest, ವಿಧಿವತ್ as per tradition, ಅಭ್ಯರ್ಚ್ಯ worshipped, ಉದಯನ್ತಮ್ rising, ದಿನಕರಮ್ Sun, ದೃಷ್ಟ್ವಾ seeing, ವಿಗತಕಲ್ಮಷಾಃ devoid of all sins, ಸುತೀಕ್ಷ್ಣಮ್ Sutikshna, ಅಭಿಗಮ್ಯ went towards, ಶ್ಲಕ್ಷ್ಣಮ್ good, ಇದಮ್ these, ವಚನಮ್ words, ಅಬ್ರುವನ್ spoke.
And as per routine, sinless Sita, Rama and Lakshmana offered prayers to the fire and other gods of the forest which was the refuge of the ascetics. Seeing the rising Sun, they worshipped him, and approaching Sutikshna, said these soothing words:
ಸುಖೋಷಿತಾಸ್ಸ್ಮಭಗವಂಸ್ತ್ವಯಾ ಪೂಜ್ಯೇನ ಪೂಜಿತಾಃ.
ಆಪೃಚ್ಛಾಮಃ ಪ್ರಯಾಸ್ಯಾಮೋ ಮುನಯಸ್ತ್ವರಯನ್ತಿ ನಃ৷৷3.8.5৷৷
ಆಪೃಚ್ಛಾಮಃ ಪ್ರಯಾಸ್ಯಾಮೋ ಮುನಯಸ್ತ್ವರಯನ್ತಿ ನಃ৷৷3.8.5৷৷
ಭಗವನ್ O revered Sutikshna, ಪೂಜ್ಯೇನ worship-worthy by you, ತ್ವಯಾ by you, ಪೂಜಿತಾಃ received, ಸುಖೋಷಿತಾಃ stayed comfortably, ಸ್ಮಃ were, ಆಪೃಚ್ಛಾಮಃ we bid you farewell, ಪ್ರಯಾಸ್ಯಾಮಃ we will go, ಮುನಯಃ sages, ನಃ us, ತ್ವರಯನ್ತಿ are hastening.
O revered Sutikshna! received by one so worship-worthy like you, we spent the night well. We (now)take leave of you. The sages are hastening us.
ತ್ವರಾಮಹೇ ವಯಂ ದ್ರಷ್ಟುಂ ಕೃತ್ಸ್ನಮಾಶ್ರಮಮಣ್ಡಲಮ್.

ವಯಮ್ we, ಪುಣ್ಯಶೀಲಾನಾಮ್ of holy men, ದಣ್ಡಕಾರಣ್ಯವಾಸಿನಾಮ್ of those residing in Dandakaranya, ಋಷೀಣಾಮ್ of sages, ಕೃತ್ಸ್ನಮ್ the entire, ಆಶ್ರಮಮಣ್ಡಲಮ್ circle of hermitages, ದ್ರಷ್ಟುಮ್ to see, ತ್ವರಾಮಹೇ we are making haste.
We wish to see the entire circle of hermitages of the sages, residing in Dandaka forest. So we are in a hurry.
ಅಭ್ಯನುಜ್ಞಾತುಮಿಚ್ಛಾಮಸ್ಸಹೈಭಿರ್ಮುನಿಪುಙ್ಗವೈಃ.
ಧರ್ಮನಿತ್ಯೈಸ್ತಪೋದಾನ್ತೈರ್ವಿಶಿಖೈರಿವ ಪಾವಕೈಃ৷৷3.8.7৷৷

ಧರ್ಮನಿತ್ಯೈಃ ever engaged in nighteousness ತಪೋದಾನ್ತೈಃ self-controlled by penance, ವಿಶಿಖೈಃ without flames, ಪಾವಕೈರಿವ like fire, ಏಭಿಃ by these, ಮುನಿಪುಙ್ಗವೈಃ great sages, ಅಭ್ಯನುಜ್ಞಾತುಮ್ to be granted ಇಚ್ಛಾಮಃ desire.
We seek your permission to go with the great sages, who are ever engaged in righteousness, self-controlled by virtue of their penance, and are like flameless fire.
ಅವಿಷಹ್ಯಾತಪೋ ಯಾವತ್ಸೂರ್ಯೋ ನಾತಿವಿರಾಜತೇ.
ಅಮಾರ್ಗೇಣಾಗತಾಂ ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮೀಂ ಪ್ರಾಪ್ಯೇವಾನ್ವಯವರ್ಜಿತಃ৷৷3.8.8৷৷

ಅನ್ವಯವರ್ಜಿತಃ without good lineage ಅಮಾರ್ಗೇಣ by unlawful ways, ಆಗತಾಮ್ earned, ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮೀಮ್ prosperity, ಪ್ರಾಪ್ಯೇವ after getting, ಸೂರ್ಯಃ Sun, ಯಾವತ್ before, ಅವಿಷಹ್ಯಾತಪ: with unbearable heat (of the Sun), ನಾತಿವಿರಾಜತೇ before he comes out with blazing heat, ತಾವತ್ before that, ಗನ್ತುಮ್ to go, ಇಚ್ಛಾಮಹೇ we desire, ಇತಿ thus, ಉಕ್ತ್ವಾ having said, ಸೀತಯಾ ಸಹ along with Sita, ಸಹಸೌಮಿತ್ರಿಃ with Lakshmana, ರಾಮಃ Rama, ಮುನೇಃ sage's, ಚರಣೌ feet, ವವನ್ದೇ worshipped.
We wish to depart before the Sun grows unbearably hot like the man devoid of good lineage who acquires wealth through un-lawful means (becomes arrogant). Thereafter Rama along with Sita and Lakshmana offered worship at the feet of the venerable sage.
ತೌ ಸಂಸ್ಪೃಶನ್ತೌ ಚರಣಾವುತ್ಥಾಪ್ಯ ಮುನಿಪುಙ್ಗವಃ.
ಗಾಢಮಾಲಿಙ್ಗ್ಯ ಸಸ್ನೇಹಮಿದಂ ವಚನಮಬ್ರವೀತ್৷৷3.8.10৷৷

ಮುನಿಪುಙ್ಗವ: best of the sages, ಚರಣೌ feet, ಸಂಸ್ಪೃಶನ್ತೌ while touching, ತೌ both of them, ಉತ್ಥಾಪ್ಯ after lifting them up, ಗಾಢಮ್ tightly, ಆಲಿಙ್ಯ hugged, ಸಸ್ನೇಹಮ್ lovingly, ಇದಮ್ these, ವಚನಮ್ words, ಅಬ್ರವೀತ್ said.
When both Rama and Lakshmana touched the feet of Sutikshna, the best of the sages, he lifted them up, hugged them tightly, and said affectionately:
ಅರಿಷ್ಟಂ ಗಚ್ಛ ಪನ್ಥಾನಂ ರಾಮ! ಸೌಮಿತ್ರಿಣಾ ಸಹ.
ಸೀತಯಾ ಚಾನಯಾ ಸಾರ್ಧಂ ಛಾಯಯೇವಾನುವೃತ್ತಯಾ৷৷3.8.11৷৷
ಸೀತಯಾ ಚಾನಯಾ ಸಾರ್ಧಂ ಛಾಯಯೇವಾನುವೃತ್ತಯಾ৷৷3.8.11৷৷
ರಾಮ! Rama, ಸೌಮಿತ್ರಿಣಾ ಸಹ with Lakshmana, ಛಾಯಯೇವ like a shadow, ಅನುವೃತ್ತಯಾ following, ಅನಯಾ ಸಾರ್ಧಂ ಚ with her, ಅರಿಷ್ಟಮ್ safe, ಪನ್ಥಾನಮ್ on the path, ಗಚ್ಛ you may go.
You may safely tread, O Rama, this path along with Lakshmana and Sita who is following you like a shadow.
ಪಶ್ಯಾಶ್ರಮಪದಂ ರಮ್ಯಂ ದಣ್ಡಕಾರಣ್ಯವಾಸಿನಾಮ್.
ಏಷಾಂ ತಪಸ್ವಿನಾಂ ವೀರ ತಪಸಾ ಭಾವಿತಾತ್ಮನಾಮ್৷৷3.8.12৷৷
ಏಷಾಂ ತಪಸ್ವಿನಾಂ ವೀರ ತಪಸಾ ಭಾವಿತಾತ್ಮನಾಮ್৷৷3.8.12৷৷
ವೀರ O warrior, ದಣ್ಡಕಾರಣ್ಯವಾಸಿನಾಮ್ of these residing in Dandaka forest, ತಪಸಾ with penance, ಭಾವಿತಾತ್ಮನಾಮ್ of those self-realised souls, ಏಷಾಮ್ of these, ತಪಸ್ವಿನಾಮ್ sages, ರಮ್ಯಮ್ delightful, ಆಶ್ರಮಪದಮ್ location of hermitage, ಪಶ್ಯ see.
O valient Rama! the sages, living in the Dandaka forest, are self realised souls. See how delightful is the location of their hermitages!.

ಸುಪ್ರಾಜ್ಯಫಲಮೂಲಾನಿ places with abundant fruits and roots, ಪುಷ್ಪಿತಾನಿ with flowers in full bloom, ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಮೃಗಯೂಥಾನಿ full of herds of animals, ಶಾನ್ತಪಕ್ಷಿಗಣಾನಿ ಚ with flocks of quiet birds, ವನಾನಿ ಚ forest- areas, ಫುಲ್ಲಪಙ್ಕಜಷಣ್ಡಾನಿ with fully blossomed lotuses, ಪ್ರಸನ್ನಸಲಿಲಾನಿ ಚ having clear waters, ಕಾರಣ್ಡವವಿಕೀರ್ಣಾನಿ filled with water-ducks, ತಟಾಕಾನಿ tanks, ಸರಾಂಸಿ ಚ and lakes, ದೃಷ್ಟಿರಮ್ಯಾಣಿ delightful to look at, ಗಿರಿಪ್ರಸ್ರವಣಾನಿ ಚ water-falls coming down the hills, ಮಯೂರಾಭಿರುತಾನಿ filled with sounds of peacocks, ರಮಣೀಯಾನಿ beautiful, ಅರಣ್ಯಾನಿ forests , ದ್ರಕ್ಷ್ಯಸೇ you will see.
You will see the beautiful forest-areas with abundant fruits and roots, flowers in full bloom, herds of animals, flocks of quiet birds; tanks and lakes filled with clean waters and shining with fully blossomed lotuses, resounding with water-ducks and peacocks and water-falls coming down the hills. Thus you will enjoy a delightful sylvan sight.
ಗಮ್ಯತಾಂ ವತ್ಸ ಸೌಮಿತ್ರೇ ಭವಾನಪಿ ಚ ಗಚ್ಛತು.
ಆಗನ್ತವ್ಯಂ ಚ ತೇ ದೃಷ್ಟ್ವಾ ಪುನರೇವಾಶ್ರಮಂ ಮಮ৷৷3.8.16৷৷
ಆಗನ್ತವ್ಯಂ ಚ ತೇ ದೃಷ್ಟ್ವಾ ಪುನರೇವಾಶ್ರಮಂ ಮಮ৷৷3.8.16৷৷
ವತ್ಸ O dear child!, ಗಮ್ಯತಾಮ್ you may go, ಸೌಮಿತ್ರೇ O Lakshmana, ಭವಾನಪಿ ಚ you also, ಗಚ್ಛತು may go, ದೃಷ್ಟ್ವಾ after seeing, ಪುನರೇವ again, ಆಶ್ರಮಂ to hermitage, ಮಮ my, ತೇ for you, ಆಗನ್ತವ್ಯಮ್ you have to come here.
O dear Rama, O Lakshmana you may leave (now), you may have to come back to this hermitage after seeing those places.
ಏವಮುಕ್ತಸ್ತಥೇತ್ಯುಕ್ತ್ವಾ ಕಾಕುತ್ಸ್ಥಸ್ಸಹಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಣಃ.
ಪ್ರದಕ್ಷಿಣಂ ಮುನಿಂ ಕೃತ್ವಾ ಪ್ರಸ್ಥಾತುಮುಪಚಕ್ರಮೇ৷৷3.8.17৷৷
ಪ್ರದಕ್ಷಿಣಂ ಮುನಿಂ ಕೃತ್ವಾ ಪ್ರಸ್ಥಾತುಮುಪಚಕ್ರಮೇ৷৷3.8.17৷৷
ಏವಮ್ that way, ಉಕ್ತಃ having been told, ಕಾಕುತ್ಸ್ಥ: Rama, ಸಹಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಣಃ along with Lakshmana, ತಥೇತಿ let it be, ಉಕ್ತ್ವಾ having said this, ಮುನಿಮ್ to the sage, ಪ್ರದಕ್ಷಿಣಂ ಕೃತ್ವಾ circumambulated( the sage as a mark of reverence), ಪ್ರಸ್ಥಾತುಮ್ to set out, ಉಪಚಕ್ರಮೇ started.
Thus addressed, Rama, scion of the Kakutsthas along with Lakshmana circumambulated the sage (in reverence) and set forth.
ತತಶ್ಶುಭತರೇ ತೂಣೀ ಧನುಷೀ ಚಾಯತೇಕ್ಷಣಾ.
ದದೌ ಸೀತಾ ತಯೋರ್ಭ್ರಾತ್ರೋಃ ಖಙ್ಗೌ ಚ ವಿಮಲೌ ತತಃ৷৷3.8.18৷৷
ದದೌ ಸೀತಾ ತಯೋರ್ಭ್ರಾತ್ರೋಃ ಖಙ್ಗೌ ಚ ವಿಮಲೌ ತತಃ৷৷3.8.18৷৷
ತತಃ thereafter, ಆಯತೇಕ್ಷಣಾ large-eyed lady, ಸೀತಾ Sita, ತಯೋಃ to them, ಭ್ರಾತ್ರೋಃ two brothers, ಶುಭತರೇ auspicious, ತೂಣೀ quivers, ಧನುಷೀ ಚ bows and, ತತಃ then, ವಿಮಲೌ two excellent, ಖಙ್ಗೌ ಚ swords, ದದೌ gave.
Thereafter large-eyed Sita handed the brothers two quivers, two bows as well as two excellent swords.
ಆಬಧ್ಯ ಚ ಶುಭೇ ತೂಣೀ ಚಾಪೇ ಚಾದಾಯ ಸುಸ್ವನೌ.
ನಿಷ್ಕ್ರಾನ್ತಾವಾಶ್ರಮಾದ್ಗನ್ತುಮುಭೌ ತೌ ರಾಮಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಣೌ৷৷3.8.19৷৷

Both Rama and Lakshmana tied their auspicious quivers, took the two twanging bows and departed from the hermitage.

ರೂಪಸಮ್ಪನ್ನೌ both very handsome, ಶ್ರೀಮನ್ತೌ ತೌ ರಾಘವೌ powerful Rama and Lakshmana, ಸ್ವತೇಜಸಾ by their radiance, ದೀಪ್ಯಮಾನೌ both glowing, ಧೃತಚಾಪೌ both holding bows, ಸೀತಯಾ ಸಹ along with Sita, ಶೀಘ್ರಮ್ quickly, ಪ್ರಸ್ಥಿತೌ exited.
