The king of monkeys lying on the ground struck by the arrow did not offer to reply after listening to Rama's appropriate answers (to his objections).

Severely battered by stones, hit by trees and pierced by Rama's arrow, Vali lost consciousness as the end of his life was nearing.

Tara, wife of Vali, heard that her husband, tiger among monkeys, was killed in the battle by the arrow discharged by Rama.

Hearing the terrible, unhappy news of her husband's death, Tara anxiously rushed along with her son out of the mountain cave.

Tara saw the terror-stricken monkeys running helter-skelter, like the herd of deer whose leader who had strayed had been killed.

Sorrowful Tara, the wife of Vali, duly approaching the monkeys stricken with grief and running as if chased by the arrows of Rama at their back, said to them:
বানরাঃ! রাজসিংহস্য যস্য যূযং পুরস্সরাঃ৷

তং বিহায সুসন্ত্রস্তাঃ কস্মাদ্দ্রবথ দুর্গতাঃ4.19.8৷৷


বানরাঃ O monkeys!, যূযম্ all of you, যস্য whosoever, রাজসিংহস্য of a lion among kings, পুরঃসরাঃ walked ahead, তম্ him, বিহায left, সুসন্ত্রস্তাঃ extremely frightened, দুর্গতাঃ distressed, কস্মাত্ why, দ্রবথ are you running?

'O monkeys! deserting the lion among kings,whose servants you are ? What should you be frightened for ? Why run away in distress?

রামেণ প্রহিতৈরৌদ্রৈর্মার্গণৈর্দূরপাতিভিঃ4.19.9৷৷


রৌদ্রেণ terrified, ভ্রাত্রা by the brother, সঃ he, Vali, রাজ্যহেতোঃ for the sake of kingship, রামেণ by Rama, রৌদ্রাত্ in anger, প্রহিতৈঃ discharged, দূরপাতিভিঃ far-reaching, মার্গণৈঃ with arrows, পাতিতঃ চেত্ if he is struck down.

'If the (elder) brother is struck down by his (younger) brother in anger for the sake of kingship using far-reaching arrows discharged by Rama, why are you running?'

On hearing Tara, the wife of Vali, the monkeys who could assume any form at their will replied with clear words appropriate to the occasion:
জীবপুত্রে! নিবর্তস্ব পুত্রং রক্ষস্ব চাঙ্গদম্৷

অন্তকো রামরূপেণ হত্বা নযতি বালিনম্4.19.11৷৷


জীবপুত্রে! O mother of a son who is alive, নিবর্তস্ব go back, পুত্রম্ son, অঙ্গদম্ Angada, রক্ষস্ব you may protect, অন্তকঃ lord of death, রামরূপেণ in the form of Rama, বালিনম্ Vali, হত্বা having killed, নযতি carrying away.

'O mother, your son is still alive. Go back and protect your son Angada. Lord of death in the form of Rama has come and killed Vali and is carrying him away.
ক্ষিপ্তান্ বৃক্ষান্সমাবিধ্য বিপুলাশ্চ শিলাস্তথা৷

বালী বজ্রসমৈর্বাণৈ রামেণ বিনিপাতিতঃ4.19.12৷৷


ক্ষিপ্তান্ hurled, বৃক্ষান্ trees, তথা so also, বিপুলাঃ huge, শিলাঃ rocks, বজ্রসমৈঃ like thunderbolt, বাণৈঃ by arrows, সমাবিধ্য after striking, বালী Vali, রামেণ by Rama, নিপাতিতঃ killed.

'Rama smashed the trees and stones Vali hurled at him and then struck him down with thunderbolt-like arrows.
অভিদ্রুতমিদং সর্বং বিদ্রুতং প্রসৃতং বলম্৷

অস্মিন্ প্লবগশার্দূলে হতে শক্রসমপ্রভে4.19.13৷৷


শক্রসমপ্রভে equal to Indra in splendour, অস্মিন্ his, প্লবগশার্দূলে tiger among monkeys, হতে is killed, ইদম্ this, সর্বম্ all, বলম্ army, অভিদ্রুতম্ terrified, বিদ্রুতম্ scattered , প্রসৃতম্ spread all over.

'When Vali who was equal to Indra in strength, a tiger among monkeys, was killed, the army of monkeys got terrified and ran away here and there, scattered in different directions.
রক্ষ্যতাং নগরদ্বারমঙ্গদশ্চাভিষিচ্যতাম্৷

পদস্থং বালিনঃ পুত্রং ভজিষ্যন্তি প্লবঙ্গমাঃ4.19.14৷৷


নগরদ্বারম্ the gateway of the city, রক্ষ্যতাম্ may be protected, অঙ্গদশ্চ Angada also, অভিষিচ্যতাম্ be consecrated, পদস্থম্ assuming the position of a king, বালিনঃ পুত্রম্ Vali's son, প্লবঙ্গমাঃ monkeys, ভজিষ্যন্তি will serve him.

'Let the gate of the city be shut and Vali's son be consecrated as king. All the monkeys will serve him when he assumes power.
অথবারুচিতং স্থানমিহ তে রুচিরাননে!৷

আবিশন্তি হি দুর্গাণি ক্ষিপ্রমন্যানি বানরাঃ4.19.15৷৷


রুচিরাননে a woman with a lovely face, অথবা or else, ইহ here, তে your, স্থানম্ place, অরুচিতম্ not proper, বানরাঃ monkeys, অদ্যৈব this very day, ক্ষিপ্রম্ at once, অন্যানি other, দুর্গাণি citadels, আবিশন্তি হি will occupy.

'O lovely Tara, this very day other monkeys will soon occupy our citadels.
অভার্যাশ্চ সভার্যাশ্চ সন্ত্যত্র বনচারিণঃ৷

লুব্ধেভ্যো বিপ্রযুক্তেভ্যস্তেভ্যো নস্তুমুলং ভযম্4.19.16৷৷


অভার্যাঃ those who do not have wives, সভার্যাশ্চ those who have wives too, বনচারিণঃ wanderers of the forest, অত্র there, সন্তি are found, লুব্দেভ্যঃ those who have made others wives their own, বিপ্রযুক্তেভ্যঃ separated from their wives, তেভ্যঃ from them, নঃ no, স্তুমুলম্ great, ভযম্ fear.

'There are monkeys wandering in the forest (sent away by Vali). Some of them have made others' wives their own and some have been separated from their wives. They are a great cause of fear.'
অল্পান্তরগতানাং তু শ্রুত্বা বচনমঙ্গনা৷

আত্মনঃ প্রতিরূপং সা বভাষে চারুহাসিনী4.19.17৷৷


অল্পান্তরগতানাম্ of those low-minded monkeys, বচনম্ words, শ্রুত্বা after hearing, চারুহাসিনী a lady with a gentle smile, সা অঙ্গনা that lady, আত্মনঃ of herself, প্রতিরূপম্ in her own style, বভাষে spoke.

Hearing the words of the petty-minded monkeys, Tara spoke to them in her own way with a gentle smile:
পুত্রেণ মম কিং কার্যং রাজ্যেনচ কিমাত্মনা৷

কপিসিংহে মহাভাগে তস্মিন্ভর্তরি নশ্যতি4.19.18৷৷


কপিসিংহে lion among monkeys, মহাভাগে glorious, তস্মিন্ him, নশ্যতি সতি he is dying, মম to me, পুত্রেণ by my son, কিং কার্যম্ what use, রাজ্যেন (অপি) চ even with the kingdom, আত্মনা with my own life, কিম্ what purpose?

'Now that the glorious Vali, a lion among monkeys, my husband is dying, of what purpose is the son, or the kingdom or my own life?
পাদমূলং গমিষ্যামি তস্যৈবাহং মহাত্মনঃ৷

যোসৌ রামপ্রযুক্তেন শরেণ বিনিপাতিতঃ4.19.19৷৷


যঃ whosoever, অসৌ this person, রামপ্রযুক্তেন discharged by Rama, শরেণ by arrow, বিনিপাতিতঃ is killed, মহাত্মনঃ of the great soul, তস্য his, পাদমূলম্ এব soles of his feet, গমিষ্যামি I will go.

'I will seek the soles of the feet of the great soul who has been killed by the arrow discharged by Rama.'
এবমুক্ত্বা প্রদুদ্রাব রুদন্তী শোককর্শিতা৷

শিরশ্চোরশ্চ বাহুভ্যাং দুঃখেন সমভিধ্নতী4.19.20৷৷


এবম্ in that way, উক্ত্বা having spoken, রুদন্তী while crying, শোককর্শিতা grief stricken, দুঃখেন sadly, শিরশ্চ head, উরশ্চ chest, বাহুভ্যাম্ with both hands, সমভিধ্নতী beating, প্রদুদ্রাব hastened.

So saying, the grief-stricken, weeping Tara hastened, sadly beating with both hands her head and her chest.
আব্রজন্তী দদর্শাথ পতিং নিপতিতং ভুবি৷

হন্তারং দানবেন্দ্রাণাং সমরেষ্বনিবর্তিনম্4.19.21৷৷


আব্রজন্তী as she approached, অথ then, দানবেন্দ্রাণাম্ of warriors among demons, হন্তারম্ killed, সমরেষু in wars, অনিবর্তিনম্ who never retreated, ভুবি on the ground, নিপতিতম্ fallen, পতিম্ husband, দদর্শ saw.

As she was nearing (the spot) she saw her husband, a great conqueror of monkeys who never retreated from the battle, mortally hit and fallen on the ground.

বজ্রাণাম্ the thunderbolts, বাসবম্ ইব like Indra, পর্বতেন্দ্রাণাম্ of huge mountains, ক্ষেপ্তারম্ the one who hurls, মহাবাতসমাবিষ্টম্ wind blowing at high velocity, মহামেঘৌঘনিস্স্বনম্
thundering like huge clouds.

Vali who used to hurl huge mountains like Indra discharges thunderbolts, who had the speed of wind of high velocity, who would roar like huge thundering clouds,

নর্দন্তং নর্দতাং ভীমং শূরং শূরেণ পাতিতম্4.19.23৷৷

শার্দূলেনামিষস্যার্থে মৃগরাজং যথাহতম্৷


শক্রতুল্যপরাক্রান্তম্ equal to Indra in prowess, বৃষ্টবা after raining, উপরতম্ who stopped, ঘনম্ ইব heavy cloud like, নর্দন্তম্ thundering, নর্দতাম্ among those who roared, ভীমম্ terrific, শূরম্ heroic, শূরেণ by a hero, পাতিতম্ struck down, আমিষস্যার্থে for the sake of meat, শার্দূলেন by tiger, আহতম্ killed, মৃগরাজং যথা like the lion.

(Vali) who was equal to Indra in prowess looked like a huge monsoon cloud that had calmed down after pouring all water, a roaring warrior who could frighten others, struck down by another warrior, appeared like a lion killed by a tiger for the sake of meat;
অর্চিতং সর্বলোকস্য সপতাকং সবেদিকম্4.19.24৷৷

নাগহেতোস্সুপর্ণেন চৈত্যমুন্মথিতং যথা৷


সর্বলোকস্য by all the worlds, অর্চিতম্ revered, সপতাকম্ along with the flag, সবেদিকম্ along with the altar, সুপর্ণেন by Garuda, নাগহেতোঃ on account of serpent, উন্মথিতম্ destroyed, চৈত্যং যথা like the sacred chaitya-a place of worship.

Vali looked like a chaitya (a tree of worship) having a banner and altar and reverentially worshipped by the entire world, but destroyed by Garuda on account of a serpent (hidden in it). (Here Rama is Garuda, Sugriva, serpent and Vali a sacred Chaitya)
অবষ্টভ্য চ তিষ্ঠন্তং দদর্শ ধনুরুত্তম্4.19.25৷৷

রামং রামানুজং চৈব ভর্তুশ্চৈবানুজং শুভা৷


উত্তমম্ best, ধনুঃ bow, অবষ্টভ্য leaning on, তিষ্ঠন্তম্ standing firmly, রামম্ Rama, রামানুজং চৈব and brother of Rama also, ভর্তুঃ husband's, অনুজং brother, শুভা চৈব auspicious lady, দদর্শ beheld.

The auspicious lady Tara beheld Rama standing there firmly with his brother and Sugriva, leaning on the best of bows.
তাবতীত্য সমাসাদ্য ভর্তারং নিহতং রণে4.19.26৷৷

সমীক্ষ্য ব্যথিতা ভূমৌ সম্ভ্রান্তা নিপপাত হ৷


তৌ both of them (Rama and Lakshmana), অতীত্য passing, রণে in war, নিহতম্ killed, ভর্তারম্ her husband, সমাসাদ্য having reached, সমীক্ষ্য after seeing, ব্যথিতা very much pained, সম্ভ্রান্তা agitated, ভূমৌ on the ground, নিপপাত হ fell down.

Passing Rama and Lakshmana, she went near her husband killed in the combat. She was full of agony to see him. Deeply agitated in the mind, she fell down on the ground.
সুপ্ত্বেব পুনরুত্থায আর্যপুত্রেতি শোচতী4.19.27৷৷

রুরোদ সা পতিং দৃষ্ট্বা সংবীতং মৃত্যুদামভিঃ৷


সা that, সুপ্ত্বেব as if from sleep, পুনঃ again, উত্থায rising up, আর্যপুত্র ইতি O Aryaputra! (husband), শোচতী weeping, মৃত্যুদামভিঃ with the garland of death, সংবীতম্ surrounded, পতিম্ husband, দৃষ্ট্বা after seeing, রুরোদ lamented.

Tara got up again, as if she woke up from sleep and addressing her husband garlanded with death, lamented.
তামবেক্ষ্য তু সুগ্রীবঃ ক্রোশন্তীং কুররীমিব৷

বিষাদমগমত্কষ্টং দৃষ্ট্বা চাঙ্গদমাগতম্4.19.28৷৷


সুগ্রীবঃ Sugriva, কুররীমিব like a female osprey, ক্রোশন্তীম্ while she was crying, তাম্ her, অবেক্ষ্য seeing, আগতম্ came, আঙ্গদং চ and Angada also, দৃষ্ট্বা seeing, কষ্টম্ pain, বিষাদম্ despair, অগমত্ experienced.

Seeing Tara crying like a female osprey and Angada following her in despair, Sugriva felt pain (at heart).
