লক্ষ্মণং কুপিতং শ্রুত্বা মুমোচাসনমাত্মবান্4.32.1৷৷


আত্মবান্ prudent, সুগ্রীবঃ Sugriva, সচিবৈঃ সহ with his counsellors, অঙ্গদস্য Angada's, বচঃ words, শ্রুত্বা heard, লক্ষ্মণম্ of Lakshmana's, কুপিতম্ an angry man, শ্রুত্বা heard, আসনম্ seat, মুমোচ started

On hearing about Lakshmana's anger from Angada, prudent Sugriva consulted his counsellors.

মন্ত্রজ্ঞান্মন্ত্রকুশলো মন্ত্রেষু পরিনিষ্ঠিতান্4.32.2৷৷


মন্ত্রকুশলঃ well versed in counsel, মন্ত্রেষু in counselling, পরিনিষ্ঠিতান্ highly skilled in secret assessment, সঃ he, গুরুলাঘবম্ considering the merits and demerits, নিশ্চিত্য deciding, মন্ত্রজ্ঞান্ intelligent ministers, তান্ them, বাক্যম্ words, অব্রবীত্ spoke.

Sugriva, being skilled in secret assessment of matters, considering the merits and demerits, spoke to his council of ministers capable of intelligent counselling:
ন মে দুর্ব্যাহৃতং কিঞ্চিন্নাপি মে দুরনুষ্ঠিতম্৷

লক্ষ্মণো রাঘবভ্রাতা ক্রুদ্ধঃ কিমিতি চিন্তযে4.32.3৷৷


মে of me, কিঞ্চিত্ a little, ন দুর্ব্যাহৃতম্ not uttered any harsh or arrogant word, মে of me, অপি দুরনুষ্ঠিতম্ indeed no wrong deed is done, রাঘব ভ্রাতা Rama's brother, লক্ষ্মণঃ Lakshmana, কিম্ why, ক্রুদ্ধঃ angry, ইতি this, চিন্তযে I am thinking.

'Indeed I have not uttered any harsh word or done anything wrong. I, therefore, wonder why Rama's brother, Lakshmana is angry with me?

মম দোষানসম্ভূতান্ শ্রাবিতো রাঘবানুজঃ4.32.4৷৷


রাঘবানুজঃ Rama's younger brother, অসুহৃদ্ভি: heartless people, নিত্যম্ always, অন্তরদর্শিভিঃ picking holes at me, অমিত্রৈঃ by enmies, মম my, অসম্ভূতান্ imaginary, দোষান্ faults, শ্রাবিতঃ have told.

'Some enemies, who are always searching for imaginary faults of mine might have poisoned Lakshmana's ears.
অত্র তাবদ্যথাবুদ্ধি সর্বৈরেব যথাবিধি৷

ভাবস্য নিশ্চযস্তাবদ্বিজ্ঞেযো নিপুণং শনৈঃ4.32.5৷৷


অত্র now, সর্বৈরেব by all of you, তাবত্ in the mean while, যথা বুদ্ধি using your intellect , যথাবিধি duly, ভাবস্য your own, নিশ্চযঃ decision, তাবত্ that much, নিপুণম্ expertise, শনৈঃ slowly, বিজ্ঞেযঃ inform.

'In the meanwhile, (right now) all of you should think quietly and try to know the reason (for Lakshmana's anger), using your intellect and expertise logically and decide( the course of action).

মম my, লক্ষ্মণাত্ from Lakshmana, ত্রাসঃ fear, নাস্তি খলু not expected, রাঘবাদপি even from Rama, ন not, অস্থানকোপিতম্ enraged without reason, মিত্রম্ friend, সম্ভ্রমম্ misgivings, জনযত্যেব will create.

'I have no fear either from Lakshmana or from Rama. However, when a friend is enraged without reason, it creates misgivings.

অনিত্যত্বাচ্ছ চিত্তানাং প্রীতিরল্পেপি ভিদ্যতে4.32.7৷৷


সর্বথা always, মিত্রম্ friend, সুকরম্ easy, পরিপালনম্ to maintain friendship, দুষ্করম্ is difficult, চিত্তানাম্ of mind, অল্পেপি even on flimsy ground, প্রীতিঃ friendship, অনিত্যত্বাত্ fickleness, ভিদ্যতে will break.

'It is easy to earn a friend but keeping the friendship sustained is difficult. Due to fickleness of mind friendship gets broken even on flimsy grounds.
অতো নিমিত্তং ত্রস্তোহং রামেণ তু মহাত্মনা৷

যন্মযোপকৃতং শক্যং প্রতিকর্তুং ন তন্মযা4.32.8৷৷


অতঃ নিমিত্তম্ therefore, for that reason, অহম্ I am, মহাত্মনা by the noble sire, রামেণ by Rama, ত্রস্তঃ am apprehensive, মম me, যত্ whatever, উপকৃতম্ has been done, তত্ that, মযা me, প্রতিকর্তুম্ to return, ন শক্যম্ not able to.

'Therefore, I am apprehensive of Rama. I am not able to repay the help he has rendered to me'.

When Sugriva spoke thus, Hanuman the great monkey, submitted in the presnce of the monkey-ministers, applying his own logic:

'It is not at all a matter of surprise, O king of vanara clan, that you forgot the good service rendered to you with utmost sense of friendship.
রাঘবেণ তু বীরেণ ভযমুত্সৃজ্য দূরতঃ৷

ত্বত্প্রিযার্থং হতো বালী শক্রতুল্যপরাক্রমঃ4.32.11৷৷


বীরেণ by the distinguished hero, রাঘবেণ by Rama, ভযম্ fear, দূরতঃ driving away, উত্সৃজ্য putting aside, ত্বত্প্রিযার্থম্ for your happiness, শক্রতুল্যপরাক্রমঃ valour equal to that of Indra, বালী Vali, হতঃ killed.

'To remove your fear and to please you, the great hero Rama has killed Vali, an equal to Indra in valour.
সর্বথা প্রণযাত্কৃদ্ধো রাঘবো নাত্র সংশযঃ৷

ভ্রাতরং সম্প্রহিতবান্লক্ষ্মণং লক্ষ্মিবর্ধনম্4.32.12৷৷


রাঘবঃ Rama, সর্বথা ever, প্রণযাত্ due to love, ক্রুদ্ধঃ enraged, অত্র here, সংশযঃ doubt, ন no, ভ্রাতরম্ his brother, লক্ষ্মিবর্ধনম্ a bestower of prosperity, লক্ষ্মণম্ Lakshmana, (সং) প্রহিতবান্ sent.

'Rama's anger is purely out of love for you. He has sent Lakshmana, a bestower of prosperity to you. There is no doubt about it.

কালবিদাম্ among the knowers of time, বর best, ত্বম্ you are, প্রমত্তঃ not alert, কালম্ time, ন জানীষে you are not aware, ফুল্লসপ্তচ্ছদশ্যামা a lush green season with blossoming saptachada flowers, শিবা (শুভা) auspicious, শরত্ autumn, প্রবৃত্তা has set in.

'You knows best the passage of time (changing seasons). But you are not aware out of inattention that the auspicious autumn has set in, making the garden lush green with blossoms of Saptachada flowers.

প্রসন্নাশ্চ দিশস্সর্বাস্সরিতশ্চ সরাংসি চ4.32.14৷৷


প্রনষ্টবলাহকা with disappearance of clouds, দ্যৌঃ sky, নির্মলগ্রহনক্ষত্রা with clear appearance of planets and constellations, সর্বাঃ all, দিশঃ directions, সরিতশ্চ rivers, সরাংসি চ and tanks, প্রসন্নাঃ pleasant.

'The sky from which the dark clouds have completely disappeared is illumined with planets and stars. The rivers and tanks as well as all directions are pleasant.
প্রাপ্তমুদ্যোগকালং তু নাবৈষি হরিপুঙ্গব৷

ত্বং প্রমত্ত ইতি ব্যক্তং লক্ষ্মণোযমিহাগতঃ4.32.15৷৷


হরিপুঙ্গব chief of monkeys, প্রাপ্তম্ having set in, উদ্যোগকালম্ time for making millitary endeavour, নাবৈষি not aware, ত্বম্ you, প্রমত্তঃ ইতি inattentive, অযং লক্ষ্মণঃ this Lakshmana, ইহ here, আগতঃ has come, ব্যক্তম্ it is evident.

'O chief of monkeys! it is time for military expeditions. Since you are intoxicated you are not aware of this, Lakshmana has come here evidently for this.
আর্তস্য হৃতদারস্য পুরুষং পুরুষান্তরাত্৷

বচনং মর্ষণীযং তে রাঘবস্য মহাত্মনঃ4.32.16৷৷


আর্তস্য of a man in distress, হৃতদারস্য of a man who is deprived of his wife, মহাত্মনঃ of a great self, রাঘবস্য Rama's, পুরুষান্তরাত্ from another man, পরুষম্ harsh, বচনম্ words, তে for you, মর্ষণীযম্ should be tolerated.

'The message sent by a man who is in distress, and is deprived of his wife should be accepted even if they are harsh since he is a great self (who has rendered you help).
কৃতাপরাধস্য হি তে নান্যত্পশ্যাম্যহং ক্ষমম্৷

অন্তরেণাঞ্জলিং বদ্ধ্বা লক্ষ্মণস্য প্রসাদনাত্4.32.17৷৷


অঞ্জলিম্ folded hands, বদ্ধ্বা by holding, লক্ষ্মণস্য Lakshmana's, প্রসাদনাত্ অন্তরেণ make him to excuse, ক্ষমম্ to excuse, অন্যত্ other than this, কৃতাপরাধস্য for one who has missed his duty, তে you, অহম্ I, ন পশ্যামি I do not see.

'In these circumstances the best way is seeking apology from Lakshmana with folded hands. I do not see any way other than this.

নিযুক্তৈ: appointed, মন্ত্রিভিঃ by ministers, পার্থিবঃ king, অবশ্যম্ certainly, হিতম্ good, বাচ্যঃ should advise, অতঃ এব therefore, ভযম্ fear, ত্যক্ত্বা giving up, অবধৃতম্ what I felt decidedly, বচঃ ব্রবীমি I am telling these words.

'The counsellors and ministers appointed by a king should certainly give good advice, without fear. This I tell you since I have faith in my words.

সদেবাসুরগন্ধর্বং বশে স্থাপযিতুং জগত্4.32.19৷৷


অভিক্রুদ্ধঃ if angry, রাঘবঃ Rama, চাপম্ bow, উদ্যম্য by lifting, সদেবাসুরগন্ধর্বম্ including gods, demons and ghandarvas, জগত্ world, বশে under control, স্থাপযিতুম্ to keep, সমর্থো হি able.

পূর্বোপকারং স্মরতা কৃতজ্ঞেন বিশেষতঃ4.32.20৷৷


পূর্বোপকারম্ having received help earlier, স্মরতা remembering, বিশেষতঃ more so, কৃতজ্ঞেন by a grateful man, যঃ whoever, পুনঃ again, প্রসাদ্যঃ deserves to be propitiated, সঃ he, কোপযিতুম্ to show anger, ন ক্ষমঃ not proper.

'He who deserves propitiation, should not be offended, more so by a grateful man, remembering the help received by him earlier.

রাজংস্তিষ্ঠস্ব সমযে ভর্তুর্ভার্যেব তদ্বশঃ4.32.21৷৷


রাজন্ O king, সপুত্রঃ along with your son, সসুহৃজ্জনঃ with friends, ত্বম্ you, তস্য his, মূর্ধ্না with your head, প্রণম্য bow, সমযে by the oath, ভর্তুঃ to husband, ভার্যা ইব like a wife, তদ্বশঃ subordinates, তিষ্ঠস্ব you may stand by.

'O king! bow down your head along with your son, friends and relations and honour the oath just as a wife subordinates to the will of the husband. Stand by obediently.

কপীন্দ্র! যুক্তং মনসাপ্যপোহিতুম্৷

মনো হি তে জ্ঞাস্যতি মানুষং বলং

কপীন্দ্র O king of monkeys, রামরামানুজশাসনম্ Rama's word or Lakshmana's command, ত্বযা by you, মনসাপি even in heart, অপোহিতুম্ to overlook, ন যুক্তম্ not proper, অস্য his, সরাঘবস্য along with Rama, সুরেন্দ্রবর্চসঃ countenace having the lustre of Indra, মানুষম্ human, বলম্ strength, তে মনঃ your mind, জ্ঞাস্যতি হি knows.

'O king of monkeys! It is not right for you to overlook the commands of Rama or Lakshmana even in mind. You know the superhuman virtues of Rama, particularly his valour. The two brothers are like Indra (and Upendra) in valour and might.
