মৃদুস্বভাবস্সৌমিত্রিঃ প্রতিজগ্রাহ তদ্বচঃ৷৷4.36.1৷৷


ইতি this, তারযা by Tara, প্রশ্রিতম্ courteous, ধর্মসংহিতম্ justifiable, বাক্যম্ words, উক্তঃ having been told, মৃদুস্বভাবঃ of gentle nature, সৌমিত্রিঃ Saumitri, তত্ that, বচঃ word, প্রতিজগ্রাহ accepted.

Thus the gentle-natured Saumitri accepted Tara's courteous words sanctioned by dharma.

লক্ষ্মণাত্সুমহত্ত্রাসং বস্ত্রং ক্লিন্নমিবাত্যজত্৷৷4.36.2৷৷


তস্মিন্ when such, বাক্যে words, প্রতিগৃহীতে were accepted, হরিগণেশ্বরঃ leader of the vanara clan, লক্ষ্মণাত্ from Lakshmana, সুমহত্ great, ত্রাসম্ fear, ক্লিন্নম্ wet, বস্ত্রমিব like a garment, অত্যজত্ cast aside.

Sugriva, king of the vanara clan, cast aside his great fear when Lakshmana accepted the words of Tara just as one discards a wet garment from the body.
ততঃ কণ্ঠগতং মাল্যং চিত্রং বহুগুণং মহত্৷

ততঃ then, বানরেশ্বরঃ lord of vanaras, সুগ্রীবঃ Sugriva, কণ্ঠগতম্ worn on the neck, চিত্রম্ colourful, বহুগুণম্ valuable, মহত্ great, মাল্যম্ garland, চিচ্ছেদ tore off, বিমদশ্চ relieved (from drunkenness), আসীত্ got free.

Thereupon Sugriva, relieved from his drunken state tore off the great, colourful valuable garland worn on his neck.

সর্ববানরসত্তমঃ the noble of all the vanaras, সঃ সুগ্রীবঃ that Sugriva, ভীমবলম্ a man of great prowess, লক্ষ্মণম্ to Lakshmana, সম্প্রহর্ষযন্ pleasing manner, প্রশ্রিতম্ বাক্যম্ these polite words, অব্রবীত্ spoke.

Sugriva, the noblest of all monkeys, spoke these polite words in a pleasing manner to Lakshmana of terrific strength:
প্রণষ্টা শ্রীশ্চ কীর্তিশ্চ কপিরাজ্যং চ শাশ্বতম্৷

রামপ্রসাদাত্সৌমিত্রে! পুন: প্রাপ্তমিদং মযা৷৷4.36.5৷৷


সৌমিত্রে O Saumitri, প্রণষ্টা lost from me, শ্রী:চ prosperity also, কীর্তি: চ and fame, শাশ্বতম্ permanent, কপিরাজ্যং চ and the kingdom of monkeys, ইদম্ this, রামপ্রসাদাত্ by the grace of Rama, মযা by me, পুনঃ again, প্রাপ্তম্ has been regained.

'O Saumitri! my prosperity, fame and the permanent sovereignty of vanaras had been lost. It was regained by the grace of Rama.

ধর্মাত্মা রাঘবঃ righteous Rama, সহাযমাত্রেণ only be an assistant, মযা by me, স্বেন তেজসা by his own fiery energy, সীতাম্ Sita, প্রাপ্স্যতি he will get back, রাবণম্ Ravana,বধিষ্যতি চ he will kill.

'Righteous Rama can merely restore Sita with my assistance. By his own fiery energy he will kill Ravana.

'Rama shattered seven huge trees, a mountain and earth with a single arrow. What assistance does he need?

'O Lakshmana! the twang of his bow shook even the mountains and the earth. What assistance does he need?

'O Lakshmana, bull among men! I shall only join him along with others when he leads the army to kill Ravana.
যদি কিঞ্চিদতিক্রান্তং বিশ্বাসাত্প্রণযেন বা৷

প্রেষ্যস্য ক্ষমিতব্যং মে ন কশ্চিন্নাপরাধ্যতি৷৷4.36.11৷৷


বিশ্বাসাত্ due to faith, প্রণযেন বা or with love, কিঞ্চিত্ even a little, অতিক্রান্তং যদি have exceeded time, প্রেষ্যস্য of a servant, মে my, ক্ষমিতব্যম্ one should pardon, কশ্চিত্ any one, নাপরাধ্যতি ইতি ন is not flawless in the world.

'If I have committed even a little transgression in my faith in Rama or affection for him and exceeded the time limit, my mistakes are to be excused as one would pardons a servant. No one is flawless in the world.'

Lakshmana who was happy to hear great Sugriva replied affectionately:
সর্বথা হি মম ভ্রাতা সনাথো বানরেশ্বর!৷

'O Sugriva! with you as associate, valiant hero Rama will kill his enemies in war very soon. There is no doubt about it.

সুগ্রীব! Sugriva, ধর্মজ্ঞস্য who is aware of dhrama, কৃতজ্ঞস্য of a grateful one, সঙ্গ্রামেষু in battles, অনিবর্তিনঃ of one who does not retreat, তব your, ভাষিতম্ word, উপপন্নম্ true, যুক্তং চ is fitting also.

'O Sugriva! you know dharma.You are grateful and will not turn back from the battle. So your words are true and befitting.
দোষজ্ঞস্সতি সামর্থ্যে কোন্যো ভাষিতুমর্হতি৷

বর্জযিত্বা মম জ্যেষ্ঠং ত্বাং চ বানরসত্তম!৷৷4.36.17৷৷


বানরসত্তম! best of monkeys, মম my, জ্যেষ্ঠম্ elder brother, ত্বাং চ and you, বর্জযিত্বা with the exception of, অন্যঃ others, কঃ who, সামর্থ্যে সতি capability, দোষজ্ঞঃ knows the faults of others, ভাষিতুম্ to speak, অর্হতি will be capable.

'O best of monkeys! barring you and my elder brother, who else would be capable of speaking this way about themselves even when you are aware of other's faults?
সদৃশশ্চাসি রামস্য বিক্রমেণ বলেন চ৷

হরিপুঙ্গব! Sugriva, দৈবতৈঃ by deities, চিরায for a long time, দত্তঃ given, সহাযঃ as helper, বিক্রমেণ বলেন চ in power and valour, রামস্য with Rama, সদৃশঃ equal, অসি you are.

'You who are equal to Rama in valour and strength, will continue to be the gift of gods to us for long.

'Nevertheless I want you to proceed from here with me at once and reassure your friend who is agrieved due to the abduction of his wife.
