[Sugriva gives an account of the arrival of his army, in thousands and thousands of crores --- Rama expresses his gratefulness to Sugriva.]

ইতি ব্রুবাণং সুগ্রীবং রামো ধর্মভৃতাং বরঃ৷

বাহুভ্যাং সম্পরিষ্বজ্য প্রত্যুবাচ কৃতাঞ্জলিম্৷৷4.39.1৷৷


ধর্মভৃতাম্ among the upholders of righteousness, বরঃ foremost, রামঃ Rama, ইতি thus, ব্রুবাণম্ spoke, কৃতাঞ্জলিম্ with folded hands, সুগ্রীবম্ to Sugriva, বাহুভ্যাম্ shoulders, সম্পরিষ্বজ্য having hugged, প্রত্যুবাচ replied.

On hearing Sugriva who stood with folded hands, Rama, the foremost among the upholders of righteousness, hugged him and said:
যদিন্দ্রো বর্ষতে বর্ষং ন তচ্চিত্রং ভবেত্ক্বচিত্৷

আদিত্যো বা সহস্রাংশুঃ কুর্যাদ্বিতিমিরং নভঃ৷৷4.39.2৷৷

চন্দ্রমা রশ্মিভিঃ কুর্যাত্পৃথিবীং সৌম্য! নির্মলাম্৷

ত্বদ্বিধো বাপি মিত্রাণাং প্রতিকুর্যাত্পরন্তপ ৷৷4.39.3৷৷


পরন্তপ! O scorcher of enemies, সৌম্য! O gentle one, ইন্দ্রঃ Indra, বর্ষম্ যত্ বর্ষতে when he rains, সহস্রাংশুঃ god with a thousand rays, বা or else, আদিত্যঃ Sun, নভঃ sky, বিতিমিরম্ bright, কুর্যাত্ make, চন্দ্রমাঃ Moon, পৃথিবীং on the earth, রশ্মিভিঃ with his rays, নির্মলাম্ cool, কুর্যাত্ does, ত্বদ্বিধঃ a person like you, মিত্রাণাম্ for friends, প্রতিকুর্যাত্ help in turn, তত্ that, চিত্রম্ strange, ন ভবিষ্যতি will not be.

'O scorcher of enemies, gentle Sugriva! it will not be strange if Indra showers rain, if the Sun in the sky dispels darkness with his thousand rays, and if the Moon cools down the earth with his light, and a person like you helps his friend.

'O gentle Sugriva! this your help to me is not surprising. You always help your friends and speak in a pleasing manner.
ত্বত্সনাথ: সখে সঙ্খ্যে জেতাস্মি সকলানরীন্৷

ত্বমেব মে সুহৃতন্মিত্রং সাহায্যং কর্তুমর্হসি৷৷4.39.5৷৷


সখে O friend, ত্বত্সনাথঃ one supported by you, সঙ্খ্যে in war, সকলান্ all, অরীন্ enemies, জেতাস্মি I will win over, সুহৃত্ good-hearted, মিত্রম্ friend, ত্বমেব you alone, মে to me, সাহায্যম্ help, কর্তুম্ to render, অর্হসি it is proper on your part.

'O friend! I will win over all enemies in war supported by you.You are a good-hearted friend and you alone should help me.
জহারাত্মবিনাশায বৈদেহীং রাক্ষসাধমঃ৷

বঞ্চযিত্বা তু পৌলোমীমনুহ্লাদো যথা শচীম্৷৷4.39.6৷৷


রাক্ষসাধমঃ lowly demon, বঞ্চযিত্বা after deceiving, বৈদেহীম্ Vaidehi, অনুহ্লাদঃ Anuhlada, পৌলোমীম্ Poulomi ( Indra's wife), শচীং যথা like Sachi, আত্মবিনাশায for his own destruction, জহার took away.

Just as Anuhlada (son of Hiranyakasipu and brother of Prahlada) took away, Poulomi (Sachi, daughter of Puloma) deceiving Indra, this lowly demon took away Sita, daughter of the king of Videha.
ন চিরাত্তং হনিষ্যামি রাবণং নিশিতৈশ্শরৈঃ৷

পৌলোম্যাঃ পিতরং দৃপ্তং শতক্রতুরিবাহবে৷৷4.39.7৷৷


তং রাবণম্ that Ravana, ন চিরাত্ very soon, অহবে in a battle, শতক্রতুঃ one who has done a hundred sacrifices, Indra, পৌলোম্যাঃ Pouloma's, দৃপ্তম্ proud, পিতরম্ father, নিশিতৈঃ with sharp ones, শরৈঃ arrows, হনিষ্যামি will kill.

'I will kill Ravana with my sharp arrows just as Indra, (who had done a hundred sacrifices) killed the proud father of Poulomi.

উষ্ণাং তীব্রাং সহস্রাংশোশ্ছাদযদ্গগনে প্রভাম্৷৷4.39.8৷৷


এতস্মিন্নন্তরে in the mean while, গগনে in the sky, সহস্রাংশোঃ thousand-rayed Sun's, উষ্ণাং তীব্রাম্ intense heat, প্রভাম্ radiance, ছাদযত্ covering, রজঃ dust, সমভিবর্তত was raised.

In the mean while the dust raised (by army of monkeys) all over obscured the intense heat from the sky and the radiance of the thousand-rayed Sun.
দিশঃ পর্যাকুলাশ্চাসন্রজসা তেন মূর্ছতা৷

চচাল চ মহী সর্বা সশৈলবনকাননা৷৷4.39.9৷৷


তেন by that, রজসা by the dust, মূর্ছতা by the spread, দিশঃ sides, পর্যাকুলাশ্চ became mixed up, সশৈলবনকাননা including mountains, gardens and forests, সর্বা all, মহী চ and earth, চচাল was shaken.

By the spreading of dust, the quarters were not visible.The earth including the mountains gardens and forests was shaken up.

In a minute, the entire land was crowded with innumerable powerful monkeys of the size of mountains having sharp fangs.The monkey leaders with a hundred crore monkey followers, who could assume any form at their will; mighty monkeys from the mountains, rivers and seas; vanaras thundering like clouds; and other free vanaras who were wanderers; vanaras red in colour like the rising Sun, tawny coloured ones like the Moon; some who were of the hue of white lotus filaments and some vanaras residing in mount Meru came there.

বীরশ্শতবলির্নাম বানরঃ প্রত্যদৃশ্যত৷৷4.39.14৷৷


তদা then, দশভিঃ by ten, কোটীসহস্রৈঃ thousand crores, পরিবৃতঃ accompanied by, শ্রীমান্
glorious, বীরঃ warrior, শতবলির্নাম named Satavali, বানরঃ monkey, প্রত্যদৃশ্যত appeared on the site.

Then appeared the glorious warrior named Satavali, followed by ten thousand crore of monkeys.
ততঃ কাঞ্চনশৈলাভস্তারাযা বীর্যবান্পিতা৷

অনেকৈর্দশসাহস্রৈঃ কোটিভিঃ প্রত্যদৃশ্যত৷৷4.39.15৷৷


ততঃ then, কাঞ্চনশৈলাভঃ appearing like the golden mountain (Meru), বীর্যবান্ valiant, পিতা father, দশসাহস্রৈঃ by ten thousand, কোটিভিঃ by crores, অনেকৈঃ and many, প্রত্যদৃশ্যত appeared with, তারাযা Tara's.

(Next came) the valiant father of Tara of golden complexion like mount Meru followed by ten thousand crore of vanaras.
তথাপরেণ কোটীনাং সহস্রেণ সমন্বিতঃ৷

পিতা রুমাযা সম্প্রাপ্তস্সুগ্রীবশ্বশুরো বিভুঃ৷৷4.39.16৷৷


তথা like-wise, বিভুঃ mighty one, রুমাযাঃ পিতা father of Ruma, সুগ্রীবশ্বশুরঃ king Sugriva's father-in-law, অপরেণ by another, কোটীনাম্ by a crore, সহস্রেণ thousand, সমন্বিতঃ accompanied with, সম্প্রাপ্তঃ reached.

Likewise mighty father of Ruma, father-in-law of Sugriva, reached there accompanied by a thousand crore monkeys.

পিতা হনুমতশ্রশীমান্কেসরী প্রত্যদৃশ্যত৷৷4.39.18৷৷


পদ্মকেসরসঙ্কাশঃ like lotus filaments in colour, তরুণার্কনিভাননঃ with the countenance red like the early morning Sun, বুদ্ধিমান্ wise, বানরশ্রেষ্ঠঃ foremost of vanaras, সর্ববানরসত্তমঃ the best among vanaras, হনুমতঃ Hanuman's, পিতা father, শ্রীমান্ prosperous, কেসরী Kesari, বানরাণাম্ of vanaras, অনেকৈঃ many, বহুসাহস্রৈঃ by many thousands, সমন্বিতঃ accompanied by, প্রত্যদৃশ্যত appeared.

Then arrived Kesari, the wise and illustrious monkey, foremost and the best among vanaras, father of Hanuman. He was of the colour of lotus filaments and his countenance was red like the early morning Sun. He was accompanied by many thousands of monkeys.

বানরাণাম্ of vanaras, কোটিসহস্রেণ by a thousand crores, বৃতঃ surrounded, গোলাঙ্গূলমহারাজঃ king of Langur, ভীমবিক্রমঃ a warrior of fierce valour, গবাক্ষঃ Gavaksha, অদৃশ্যত was seen

Next arrived Gavaksha, king of Langurs (whose tail resembled the cow's), of fierceful courage surrounded by a thousand crore of vanaras.
ঋক্ষাণাং ভীমবেগানাং ধূম্রশ্শত্রুনিবর্হণঃ৷

বৃতঃ কোটিসহস্রাভ্যাং দ্বাভ্যাং সমভিবর্তত৷৷4.39.20৷৷


শত্রুনিবর্হণঃ destroyer of enemies, ধূম্রঃ Dhumra, ভীমবেগানাম্ of those of frightening speed, ঋক্ষাণাম্ of bears, দ্বাভ্যাম্ with two, কোটিসহস্রাভ্যাম্ thousand crores, সমভিবর্তত arrived there.

Dhumra, destroyer of enemies, came next followed by two thousand crore of bears of terrible speed.

পনসো নাম Panasa by name, মহাবীর্যঃ a great warrior, যূথপঃ troop leader, তিসৃভিঃ কোটিভিঃ by three crores, মহাচলনিভৈঃ by those resembling huge mountains, ঘোরৈঃ by a dreadful one, বৃতঃ surrounded by, আজগাম came.

Similarly, the great warrior named Panasa, leader of the troop, reported with three crore dreadful vanaras of the size of huge mountains.
নীলাঞ্জনচযাকারো নীলো নামাথ যূথপঃ৷

অদৃশ্যত মহাকাযঃ কোটিভির্দশভির্বৃতঃ৷৷4.39.22৷৷


অথ then, দশভিঃ কোটিভিঃ by ten crore, বৃতঃ surrounded, নীলাঞ্জনচযাকারঃ dark like a mountain of collyrium, মহাকাযঃ of huge body, নীলো নাম by name Nila, যূথপঃ leader, অদৃশ্যত appeared.

Then appeared Nila of huge body, dark like a mountain of collyrium accompanied by ten crore vanaras.

ততঃ then, কাঞ্চনশৈলাভঃ appearing like golden mountain, মহাবীর্যঃ a great warrior, গবযো নাম Gavaya by name, যূথপঃ leader of a group, পঞ্চভিঃ কোটিভিঃ by five crores, বৃতঃ surrounded, আজগাম arrived.

Then arrived the leader of five crore vanaras, the great warrior Gavaya who resembled a golden mountain.
দরীমুখশ্চ বলবান্যূথপোভ্যাযযৌ তদা৷

বৃতঃ কোটিসহস্রেণ সুগ্রীবং সমুপস্থিতঃ৷৷4.39.24৷৷


তদা then, বলবান্ strong, দরীমুখঃ Darimukha, যূথপঃ leader, কোটিসহস্রেণ with one thousand crores, বৃতঃ surrounded, অভ্যাযযৌ came near, সুগ্রীবম্ Sugriva, সমুপস্থিতঃ approached.

Then the strong Darimukha, leader of a thousand crore monkeys approached Sugriva.
মৈন্দশ্চ দ্বিবিদশ্চোভাবশ্বিপুত্রৌ মহাবলৌ৷

কোটিকোটিসহস্রেণ বানরাণামদৃশ্যতাম্৷৷4.39.25৷৷


মহাবলৌ two very powerful, অশ্বিপুত্রৌ two sons of Asvi, মৈন্দশ্চ Mainda, দ্বিবিদশ্চ Dvivida, উভৌ both, বানরাণাম্ vanaras, কোটিকোটিসহস্রেণ by a thousand crores, অদৃশ্যতাম্ appeared.

Two very powerful sons of Asvini, Mainda and Dvivida, appeared with a thousand crore vanaras.
গজশ্চ বলবান্ বীর: কোটিভিস্তিসৃভির্বৃতঃ৷

আজগাম মহাতেজা সুগ্রীবস্য সমীপতঃ৷৷4.39.26৷৷


বলবান্ stout, বীরঃ hero, মহাতেজাঃ mighty, গজশ্চ Gaja also, তিসৃভিঃ কোটিভিঃ with three crores of vanaras, বৃতঃ surrounded by, সুগ্রীবস্য of Sugriva, সমীপতঃ presence, আজগাম reached.

Strong and powerful Gaja also reached Sugriva with three crore vanaras.
ঋক্ষরাজো মহাতেজা জাম্ববান্নাম নামতঃ৷

কোটিভির্দশভিঃ প্রাপ্তঃ সুগ্রীবস্য বশে স্থিতঃ৷৷4.39.27৷৷


মহাতেজাঃ glorious, নামতঃ by name, জাম্ববান্ নাম called Jambavan, ঋক্ষরাজঃ king of bears, দশভিঃ ten, কোটিভি with crores, প্রাপ্তঃ got, সুগ্রীবস্য to Sugriva, বশে under control, স্থিতঃ stood.

Glorious Jambavan, king of bears, stood before Sugriva with ten thousand crore vanaras.
রুমণ্বান্নাম বিক্রান্তো বানরো বানরেশ্বরম্৷

আযযৌ বলবাংস্তূর্ণং কোটীশতসমাবৃতঃ৷৷4.39.28৷৷


বিক্রান্তঃ victorious, বানরৈঃ with vanaras, বৃতঃ surrounded by, বলবান্ sturdy, রুমণ্বন্নাম called Rumanvan, কোটীশতসমাবৃতঃ surrounded by hundred crores of vanaras, তূর্ণম্ swiftly, সমাবৃতঃ came and assembled.

Sturdy and victorious vanara called Rumanvan came swiftly followed by a hundred crore vanaras.

পৃষ্ঠতোনুগতঃ প্রাপ্তো হরিভির্গন্ধমাদনঃ৷৷4.39.29৷৷


ততঃ then, কোটিসহস্রাণাম্ of a thousand crore, সহস্রেণ by a thousand, শতেন চ by a hundred also, বানরৈঃ with vanara, পৃষ্ঠতঃ behind him, অনুগতঃ followed, গন্ধমাদন: Gandhamadana, প্রাপ্তঃ came.

Then came Gandhamadana with a hundred thousand crore of vanaras following him.

যুবরাজোঙ্গদঃ প্রাপ্তঃ পিতৃতুল্যপরাক্রমঃ৷৷4.39.30৷৷


ততঃ then, পিতুঃ তুল্যপরাক্রমঃ comparable in prowess to his father, যুবরাজঃ heir apparent, অঙ্গদঃ Angada, পদ্মসহস্রেণ with a thousand Padmas (trillion), শঙ্কুশতেন চ one hundred times Sanku (ten trillion), বৃতঃ surrounded, প্রাপ্তঃ arrived.

Then arrived the heir apparent, Angada, whose prowess is comparable to that of his father with him came a thousand padmas and a hundred sankus of followers.

And Tara (brother of Ruma's father) of terrific valour shining like a star showed up at a distance with five crore vanaras.

একাদশানাং কোটীনামীশ্বরস্তৈস্সমাবৃতঃ৷৷4.39.32৷৷


একাদশানাং কোটীনাম্ of eleven crores of vanaras, ঈশ্বরঃ chief, বীরঃhero, যূথপঃ leader of troop, ইন্দ্রজানুঃ Indrajanu, কপিঃ vanara, তৈঃ with them, সমাবৃতঃ surrounded, প্রত্যদৃশ্যত appeared.

Then Indrajanu the troop leader and chief of vanaras appeared along with eleven crore monkeys.

অযুতেনাবৃতশ্চৈব সহস্রেণ শতেন চ৷৷4.39.33৷৷


ততঃ thereafter, তরুণাদিত্যসন্নিভঃ of the colour of the rising Sun, রম্ভঃ Rambha, অযুতেনা by one ayuta (10,000), সহস্রেণ by a thousand, শতেন চ by a hundred, বৃতঃ surrounded, অনুপ্রাপ্তঃ arrived

Thereafter Rambha of the colour of the rising Sun brought together an army of one thousand and one hundred ayuta troops.

Thereafter the mighty hero, leader of the troop, by name Durmukha appeared with two crore vanaras.

বৃতঃ কোটিসহস্রেণ হনুমান্প্রত্যদৃশ্যত৷৷4.39.35৷৷


হনুমান্ Hanuman, কৈলাসশিখরাকারৈঃ with those like the peaks of Kailasa mountain, ভীমবিক্রমৈঃ with warriors of frightful valour, কোটিসহস্রেণ by one thousand crores, বানরৈঃ with vanaras, বৃতঃ surrounded by, প্রত্যদৃশ্যত showed up.

And Hanuman showed up surrounded by a thousand crore vanaras of frightful valour. They looked like the peaks of Kailasa mountain.
নলশ্চাপি মহাবীর্যস্সংবৃতো দ্রুমবাসিভিঃ৷

কোটীশতেন সম্প্রাপ্তস্সহস্রেণ শতেন চ৷৷4.39.36৷৷


মহাবীর্যঃ valiant, নলশ্চাপি Nala also, কোটীশতেন by a hundred crores, সহস্রেণ by a thousand, শতেন চ and by hundreds, দ্রুমবাসিভিঃ by the tree dwellers(monkeys), সংবৃতঃ surrounded by, সম্প্রাপ্তঃ arrived.

Valiant Nala also arrived surrounded by a hundred crore and a hundred thousand tree-dwellers (monkeys).

ততঃ then, শ্রীমান্ prosperous, দধিমুখঃ Dadhimukha, দশভিঃ with ten, কোটিভিঃ with crore, বৃতঃ surrounded with, অভিমতঃ a favourite one, তস্য his, মহাত্মনঃ সুগ্রীস্য of great Sugriva, সম্প্রাপ্তঃ reached.

Then the illustrious Dadhimukha, great Sugriva's favourite leader reached with ten crore vanaras.

শরভঃ Sarabha, কুমুদঃ Kumuda, বানরঃ vanara, বহ্নিঃ Vahni, রংহঃ এব চ and so also Ramha, এতে all of them, কামরূপিণঃ who can assume any form at will, অন্যে চ and others, বহবঃ many, তেষাম্ of them, সংখ্যা number, বানরাঃ vanaras, যূথপাঃ troops, সর্বাম্ entire, পৃথিবীম্ land, পর্বতাংশ্চ and mountains, বনানি চ and forests also, আবৃত্য having occupied, সমনুপ্রাপ্তাঃ advancing towards, আগতাঃ came, সর্ববানরাঃ all the vanaras, পৃথিব্যাম্ of the earth, বিশিষ্টাশ্চ outstanding.

Sarabha, Kumuda, Vahni and Ramhi and many other vanara troops who can assume any form at their will and others from all over the land, mountains and forest advanced towards Sugriva. All the outstanding vanaras of the earth came and covered the land.

প্লবঙ্গমাঃ monkeys, আপ্লবন্তঃ leaping in enthusiasm, প্লবন্তশ্চ and jumping, গর্জন্তশ্চ and roaring, সূর্যম্ Sun, অভ্রগণা ইব like the clouds, সুগ্রীবম্ Sugriva, অভ্যবর্তন্ত approached.

The monkeys came leaping, jumping and roaring in enthusiasm and surrounded Sugriva just as clouds surround the Sun.
কুর্বাণা বহুশব্দাংশ্চ প্রহৃষ্টা বাহুশালিনঃ৷

শিরোভির্বানরেন্দ্রায সুগ্রীবায ন্যবেদযন্৷৷4.39.41৷৷


প্রহৃষ্টাঃ happy ones, বাহুশালিনঃ of sturdy shoulders, বহুশব্দান্ many kinds of noises, কুর্বাণাঃ while they made, শিরোভিঃ with their heads, বানরেন্দ্রায to the lord of monkeys, সুগ্রীবায to Sugriva, ন্যবেদযন্ reported.

The leaders of monkeys possesing sturdy shoulders made many kinds of noises and reported to Sugriva, bending their heads in reverence.
অপরে বানরশ্রেষ্ঠাস্সঙ্গম্য চ যথোচিতম্৷

সুগ্রীবেণ সমাগম্য স্থিতাঃ প্রাঞ্জলয স্তদা৷৷4.39.42৷৷


অপরে others, বানরশ্রেষ্ঠাঃ foremost of vanaras, যথোচিতম্ in a suitable manner, সঙ্গম্য after coming together, সুগ্রীবেণ with Sugriva, সমাগম্য after reaching, তদা then, প্রাঞ্জলযঃ with folded hands in salutation, স্থিতাঃ stood.

Thereafter the vanaras came close to Sugriva freely and on reaching him stood, offering salutations with folded hands.
সুগ্রীবস্ত্বরিতো রামে সর্বাংস্তাং বানররর্ষভান্৷

নিবেদযিত্বা ধর্মজ্ঞঃ স্থিতঃ প্রাঞ্জলিরব্রবীত্৷৷4.39.43৷৷


ধর্মজ্ঞঃ knower of dharma, সুগ্রীবঃ Sugriva, ত্বরিতঃ at once, প্রাঞ্জলিঃ with folded hands, স্থিতঃ stood, বানরর্ষভান্ prominent vanaras, তান্ them, সর্বান্ all, রামে to Rama, নিবেদযিত্বা having presented, অব্রবীত্ said.

Sugriva, knower of dharma, at once presented all the prominent vanaras to Rama, and standing with folded hands said.
যথাসুখং পর্বতনিঝরেষু

বনেষু সর্বেষু চ বানরেন্দ্রাঃ৷

নিবেশযিত্বা বিধিবদ্বলানি

বলং বলজ্ঞঃ প্রতিপত্তুমীষ্টে৷৷4.39.44৷৷


বানরেন্দ্রাঃ best of vanaras, পর্বতনিঝরেষু by the side of swift mountain streams, সর্বেষু in all, বনেষু চ in forests, যথাসুখম্ comfortably settled, বিধিবত্ as per tradition, বলানি army, নিবেশযিত্বা after lodging, বলজ্ঞঃ know the strength, বলম্ of army, প্রতিপত্তুম্ to know, ঈষ্টে decided.

Sugriva told the chiefs to station the forces by the side of swift mountain streams, in forests, and hills and ascertain their exact number.
