ঋশ্যমূকাত্তু হনুমান্গত্বা তু মলযং গিরিম্৷

হনুমান্ Hanuman, ঋষ্যমূকাত্ from Rishyamuka, মলযং Malaya, গিরিম্ mountain, গত্বা on going, কপিরাজায to the lord of the monkeys, তদা then, বীরৌ the two heroes, রাঘবৌ Raghavas, আচচক্ষে seeing announced (the arrival)

Leaving Rishyamuka, Hanuman reached the Malaya mountain. Seeing the chief of monkeys there, he announced the arrival of the heroic Raghavas.
অযং রামো মহাপ্রাজ্ঞ স্সম্প্রাপ্তো দৃঢবিক্রমঃ৷

লক্ষ্মণেন সহ ভ্রাত্রা রামোযং সত্যবিক্রমঃ4.5.2৷৷


মহাপ্রাজ্ঞঃ very wise, দৃঢবিক্রম: unfailing in valour, অযং রামঃ this Rama, ভ্রাত্রা with brother, লক্ষ্মণেন সহ along with Lakshmana, সম্প্রাপ্তঃ has arrived, অযং রামঃ this Rama, সত্যবিক্রমঃ endowed with the power of truth

'This Rama of great-wisdom and valour, endowed with the power of truth has arrived here along with his brother Lakshmana.

'Born in the Ikshvaku race Rama Dasaratha's son, distinguished for his righteousness is here to carry out the orders of his father.

'While the great Rama armed with self-restraint was living in the forest, his wife was abducted by Ravana. So he has come to you seeing refuge.

যেন by whom, রাজসূযাশ্বমেধৈশ্চ by Rajasuya and Aswamedha yajnas, বহ্নিঃ god of fire, অভিতর্পিতঃ is gratified, তথা so also, শতসহস্রশঃ in hundreds and thousands, গাবঃ cows, দক্ষিণাঃ sacrificial gifts, উত্সৃষ্টাঃ যেন by whom given, তপসা by practising religious austerity, সত্যবাক্যেন justly, বসুধা earth, পালিতা is ruled, তস্য his, পুত্রঃ son, অযং রামঃ this is Rama, স্ত্রী হেতোঃ on account of a woman, শরণম্ refuge, সমাগতঃ came here

'This Rama, son of a king who had gratified the fire-god through many yajnas like Rajasuya and Aswamedha, gifted hundreds of thousands of cows and ruled this earth with truth and austerity, has come seeking help for a woman.'

'Both the brothers, Rama and Lakshmana seek friendship with you. As both of them are worthiest of worship, welcome them with due reverence.'

Hanuman's words took away Sugriva's great fear for Rama and filled him with cheer. This bull among monkeys gave up his natural appearance and and assuming an attractive human form spoke to Rama lovingly:

'You are a great hero, affectionate to all and well-versed in all dharmas. The son of the
Wind-god has, in fact, apprised me of your virtues;

প্রভো O Lord, তত্ that, ত্বম্ you, বানরেণ by a monkey, মযা সহ with me, সৌহার্দম্ friendship, ইচ্ছসি (ইতি) যত্ that you are wishing, এষঃ that way, মমৈব for myself, সত্কারঃ an honour, উত্তমঃ best, লাভশ্চ benefit

'O Lord! that you are eager to have friendship with me, who is a monkey is a great honour and is extremely beneficial to me.
রোচতে যদি বা সখ্যং বাহুরেষ প্রসারিতঃ৷

গৃহ্যতাং পাণিনা পাণির্মর্যাদা বধ্যতাং ধ্রুবা4.5.12৷৷

'If you are desirous of my friendship, here is my arm (palm) stretched out to you. With due regard, establish our bond firmly, holding my palm in yours.'

Rama became very happy to hear Sugriva's warm words and pressed his hand with his. Delighted, he went close to Sugriva and hugged him tightly and affectionately.

Then, Hanuman vanquisher of enemies, gave up his guise of a mendicant, assumed his natural form and generated fire by rubbing two pieces of wood. Well-pleased at heart, he made an offering of flowers to the flaming fire and placed it between them.

They both circumambulated the blazing fire and solemnized their friendship.

Rama and the monkey contented at heart, yet not fully content, continued looking at each other.

ত্বম্ you, মে to me, হৃদ্যঃ dear, বযস্যঃ friend, অসি you are, নৌ for both of us, সুখম্ pleasure, দুঃখং চ and sorrow, হ্যেকম্ are one and the same, ইতি thus, সুগ্রীবঃ Sugriva, প্রহৃষ্টবত্ happy, বাক্যম্ words, উবাচ said.

'You are a dear friend to me. Your sorrow is my sorrow, your pleasure is my pleasure. We are one and the same' said Sugriva to Rama, his heart overflowing with happiness.

সালস্যাস্তীর্য সুগ্রীবো নিষসাদ সরাঘবঃ৷


ততঃ then, সুগ্রীবঃ Sugriva, সালস্য of a Sala tree, সুপর্ণবহুলাম্ with luxuriant leaves, সুপুষ্পিতাম্ well-blossomed, শাখাম্ branch, ছিত্বা cut, আস্তীর্য spread, সরাঘবঃ along with Rama, নিষসাদ sat down.

Then Sugriva cut the branch of a sala tree with luxuriant leaves and flowers, spread it on the ground and sat down along with Raghava.
লক্ষ্মণাযাথ সংহৃষ্টো হনূমান্ প্লবগর্ষভঃ4.5.20৷৷

শাখাং চন্দনবৃক্ষস্য দদৌ পরমপুষ্পিতাম্৷


অথ then, সংহৃষ্টঃ very happy, প্লবগর্ষভঃ bull among monkeys, হনুমান্ Hanuman, চন্দনবৃক্ষস্য sandal tree, পরমপুষ্পিতাম্ full of flowers, শাখাম্ branch, লক্ষ্মণায to Lakshmana, দদৌ gave.

Then Hanuman, the bull among monkeys, felt very happy, cut the branch of a sandalwood tree full of flowers and gave it to Lakshmana.

Then Sugriva, eyes sparkling with joy, replied to Rama in a sweet, gentle voice.

হৃতভার্যো বনে ত্রস্তো দুর্গমেতদুপাশ্রিতঃ৷


রাম Rama, অহম্ I, বিনিকৃতঃ badly insulted, হৃতভার্যঃ wife hijacked, ভযার্দিতঃ stricken with fear, ইহ here, বনে in the forest, চরামি I am moving, ত্রস্তঃ frightened, দুর্গম্ in accessible, এতত্ this, উপাশ্রিতঃ taken refuge.

'O Rama, I have been insulted deeply and my wife hijacked. Stricken with fear I have taken refuge in this inaccessible forest.
সোহং ত্রস্তো বনে ভীতো বসাম্যুদ্ভ্রান্তচেতনঃ4.5.23৷৷

বালিনা নিকৃতো ভ্রাত্রা কৃতবৈরশ্চ রাঘব!৷


রাঘব O Rama, ভ্রাত্রা by my brother, বালিনা Vali, নিকৃতঃ humiliated, কৃতবৈরশ্চ developed enmity, সঃ অহম্ such a person, ত্রস্তঃ frightened, উদ্ভ্রান্তচেতনঃ with unsteady mind, বনে in the forest, ভীতঃ fearing, বসামি I am living.

'O Rama! humiliated by my brother Vali, I have developed enmity with him. Terribly distraught and disturbed I live in this forest in great fear.

'O reverend Kakutstha, I feel helpless with fear from Vali. Save me. You should release me free from fear.'

The righteous and glorious Rama to whom dharma is very dear said to Sugriva with a gentle smile on his face, when he was entreated thus:
উপকারফলং মিত্রং বিদিতং মে মহাকপে!4.5.26৷৷

বালিনং তং বধিষ্যামি তব ভার্যাপহারিণম্৷


মহাকপে O great monkey, মিত্রম্ a friend, উপকারফলম্ result of doing a good deed, মে to me, বিদিতম্ is known, তব your, ভার্যাপহারিণম্ one who has stolen your wife, তং বালিনম্ that Valin, বধিষ্যামি I will kill.

'O great monkey! I know friendship is the fruit of a beneficial deed. I will kill that Vali who has usurped your wife.

তস্মিন্বালিনি দুর্বৃত্তে নিপতিষ্যন্তি বেগিতাঃ৷

তীক্ষ্ণাগ্রা ঋজুপর্বাণস্সরোষা ভুজগা ইব৷


অমোঘাঃ unfailing, সূর্যসঙ্কশাঃ comparable to Sun, নিশিতাঃ sharp, কঙ্কপত্রপ্রতিচ্ছন্নাঃ covered with the feathers of a kanka bird, মহেন্দ্রাশনিসন্নিভাঃ equal to great India's thunderbolt, তীক্ষ্ণাগ্রাঃ with a sharp tip, ঋজুপর্বাণঃ straight, সরোষাঃ angry, ভুজগাঃ ইব like serpents, ইমে these, মম শরাঃ my arrows, বেগিতাঃ soon, দুর্বৃত্তে at the miscreant, তস্মিন্ at him, বালিনি at Vali, নিপতিষ্যন্তি they will strike.

'These arrows covered with kanka feathers, sharp and straight at the tip, comparable to great Indra's thunderbolt are (burning bright) like the sun. Looking like angry serpents, they will unfailingly strike at the miscreant Vali soon.

শরৈর্বিনিহতং ভূমৌ বিকীর্ণমিব পর্বতম্৷


অদ্য now, আশীবিষোপমৈঃ comparable to serpents, তীক্ষ্ণৈঃ sharp, শরৈঃ arrows, বিনিহতম্ killed, ভূমৌ on the ground, প্রকীর্ণম্ will fall shattered, পর্বতমিব like a mountain, বালিনম্ Vali, পশ্য see.

'With these sharp, serpent-like arrows Vali will be killed. He will fall down on the ground like a mountain shattered.You will see it now'.

সুগ্রীবঃ পরমপ্রীতস্সুমহদ্বাক্যমব্রবীত্৷


সঃ সুগ্রীবঃ that Sugriva, আত্মনঃ for himself, হিতম্ welfare, রাঘবস্য Rama's, তত্ বচনম্ those words, শ্রুত্বা after hearing, পরমপ্রীতঃ very much pleased, সুমহান্ very great, বাক্যম্ words, অব্রবীত্ said.

Sugriva, very much pleased with the words of Rama, spoke highly (of him).
তব প্রসাদেন নৃসিংহ! রাঘব!

প্রিযাং চ রাজ্যং চ সমাপ্নুযামহম্৷

তথা কুরু ত্বং নরদেব! বৈরিণং

যথা নিহংস্যদ্য রিপুংমমাগ্রজম্4.5.31৷৷


নৃসিংহ lion among men, তব your, প্রসাদেন by your grace, অহম্ I am, প্রিযাং চ wife and, রাজ্যং চ kingdom, সমাপ্নুযাম্ will attain, নরদেব king, সঃ he, পুনঃ again, যথা as, নিহংস্যদ্য will destroy, তথা thus, ত্বম্ you, বৈরিণম্ enemy, মম অগ্রজম্ my elder brother, কুরু do.

'O Rama, by your grace I will get my wife and kingdom back. O king! accomplish this so that I can destroy my, elder brother, my enemy, O lion among men !

সুগ্রীবরামপ্রণযপ্রসঙ্গে

বামানি নেত্রাণি সমং স্ফুরন্তি4.5.32৷৷


সুগ্রীবরামপ্রণযপ্রসঙ্গে while Sugriva and Rama were making a friendly alliance, সীতাকপীন্দ্রক্ষণদাচরাণাম্ Sita's, Vali's and also Ravana's, রাজীবহেমজ্বলনোপমানি lotus-like and blazing like gold, বামানিনেত্রাণি left eyes, সমম্ equally, স্ফুরন্তি throbbed.

While Sugriva was making a friendly alliance with Rama, Sita's left eye, like lotus, Vali's left eye glittering like gold and Ravana's left eye blazing (like fire) twitched at the same time for a moment (Twitching of left eye is considered auspicious to a woman and ominous to a man).
