[Hanuman narrates to Svayamprabha the purpose of the monkey mission and the reasons for entering the cave.]

অথ তানব্রবীত্সর্বান্বিশ্রান্তান্হরিযূথপান্৷

ইদং বচনমেকাগ্রা তাপসী ধর্মচারিণী৷৷4.52.1৷৷


অথ thereafter, ধর্মচারিণী righteous woman, একাগ্রা with concentration, তাপসী ascetic woman, বিশ্রান্তান্ had rested, তান্ those, সর্বান্ all, হরিযূথপান্ monkey leaders, ইদং বচনম্ these words, অব্রবীত্ said.

After the monkey leaders had taken rest, the noble ascetic with undiverted attention said these words:
বানরা! যদি বঃ খেদঃ প্রনষ্টঃ ফলভক্ষণাত্৷

যদি চৈতন্মযা শ্রাব্যং শ্রোতুমিচ্ছামি কথ্যতাম্৷৷4.52.2৷৷


বানরাঃ O monkey!, ফলভক্ষণাত্ by eating fruits, বঃ your, খেদঃ sorrow, প্রনষ্টঃ যদি is relieved, এতত্ thus, মযা by me, শ্রাব্যং চ যদি if it can be heard, কথ্যতাম্ it may be narrated, শ্রোতুম্ to hear, ইচ্ছামি I wish.

'O monkeys! if you have been relieved of your fatigue after eating fruits, now tell me about yourself, if you think it can be told. I want to hear.
তস্যাস্তদ্বচনং শ্রুত্বা হনূমান্মারুতাত্মজঃ৷

আর্জবেন যথাতত্ত্বমাখ্যাতুমুপচক্রমে৷৷4.52.3৷৷


মারুতাত্মজঃ son of the Wind-god, হনূমান্ Hanuman, তস্যাঃ her, তত্ বচনম্ those words, শ্রুত্বা after hearing, আর্জবেন frankly, যথাতত্ত্বম্ faithfully, আখ্যাতুম্ to narrate, উপচক্রমে started.

When Hanuman, son of the Wind-god, heard her, he started narrating frankly and truthfully.
রাজা সর্বস্য লোকস্য মহেন্দ্রবরুণোপমঃ৷

রামো দাশরথিশ্শীমান্প্রবিষ্টো দণ্ডকাবনম্৷৷4.52.4৷৷

লক্ষ্মণেন সহ ভ্রাত্রা বৈদেহ্যা চাপি ভার্যযা৷

তস্য ভার্যা জনস্থানাদ্রাবণেন হৃতা বলাত্৷৷4.52.5৷৷


সর্বস্য for the entire, লোকস্য world's, রাজা king, মহেন্দ্রবরুণোপমঃ comparable to Indra and Varuna, দাশরথিঃ Dasaratha's son, শ্রীমান্ prosperous, রামঃ Rama, ভ্রাত্রা with his brother, লক্ষ্মণেন সহ along with Lakshmana, ভার্যযা with his wife, বৈদেহ্যা সহ with Vaidehi, দণ্ডকাবনম্ Dandaka forest, প্রবিষ্টঃ entered, তস্য his, ভার্যা wife, রাবণেন by Ravana, জনস্থানাত্ from Janasthana, বলাত্ forcibly, হৃতা she was abducted.

'Rama, son of Dasaratha, a prosperous king of all the worlds, comparable to Indra and Varuna came to the Dandaka forest along with his brother Laksmana and wife Vaidehi. Ravana abducted his wife from Janasthana.

অগস্ত্যচরিতামাশাং দক্ষিণাং যমরক্ষিতাম্৷

সহৈভির্বানরৈর্ঘোরৈরঙ্গদপ্রমুখৈর্বযম্৷৷4.52.7৷৷

রাবণং সহিতাস্সর্বে রাক্ষসং কামরূপিণম্৷

সীতযা সহ বৈদেহ্যা মার্গধ্বমিতি চোদিতাঃ৷৷4.52.8৷৷


সর্বে all, সহিতাঃ together, বৈদেহ্যা Videha, সীতযা সহ with Sita, কামরূপিণম্ he who changes his form at his will, রাক্ষসম্ demon, রাবণম্ Ravana, মার্গধ্বম্ direction, ইতি thus, বযম্ we, অঙ্গদপ্রমুখৈঃ with Angada as chief, এভিঃ these also, মুখ্যৈঃ with leaders, বানরৈঃ সহ along with the monkeys, অগস্ত্যচরিতাম্ where sage Agasthya lived, যমরক্ষিতাম্ protected by Yama, দক্ষিণাম্ southern direction, আশাম্ intent on, চোদিতাঃ to search.

'We along with the dreadful monkeys are sent with Angada as our chief to the southern direction, guarded by Yama and inhabited by sage Agasti. We are commanded to search Sita, princess of Videha and also the abode of the demon Ravana who assumes any form at his free will.

বযম্ we, সর্বে all, সর্বম্ all over, সমগ্রাং entirely, বযং we, পরিশ্রান্তা exhausted, দক্ষিণাং দিশম্ on the southern direction, বিচিত্য after searching, বুভুক্ষিতাঃ feeling hungry, বৃক্ষমূলম্ under a tree, উপাশ্রিতাঃ sheltered.

বিবর্ণবদনাস্সর্বে সর্বে ধ্যানপরাযণাঃ৷

নাধিগচ্ছামহে পারং মগ্নাশ্চিন্তামহার্ণবে৷৷4.52.10৷৷


সর্বে all of us, বিবর্ণবদনাঃ pale-faced, সর্বে all, ধ্যানপরাযণাঃ lost in thought, চিন্তামহার্ণবে in the deep ocean of worry, মগ্নাঃ immersed, পারম্ the shore, নাধিগচ্ছামহে we were unable to find.

'We were all exhausted, lost in thought and worried, unable to cross this deep ocean of sorrow. We did not know how to proceed.
চারযন্তস্ততশ্চক্ষুর্দৃষ্টবন্তো বযং বিলম্৷

লতাপাদপসঞ্চ্ছন্নং তিমিরেণ সমাবৃতম্৷৷4.52.11৷৷


ততঃ then, চক্ষুঃ eyes, চারযন্তঃ while we were looking around, লতাপাদপসঞ্চ্ছন্নম্ concealed by vines and trees, তিমিরেণ with darkness, সমাবৃতম্ spread all over, বযম্ we, বিলম্ cave, দৃষ্টবন্তঃ we saw.

'Then while we were looking around we saw this cave concealed by trees and vines, with darkness spread all over.
অস্মাদ্ধংসা জলক্লিন্নাঃ পক্ষৈস্সলিলবিস্রবৈঃ৷

কুররাস্সারসাশ্চৈব নিষ্পতন্তি পতত্রিণঃ৷৷4.52.12৷৷


অস্মাত্ this, সলিলবিস্রবৈঃ by those with water dripping, পক্ষৈঃ with wings, জলক্লিন্নাঃ drenched in water, হংসাঃ swans, কুররাঃ kuraras, সারসাশ্চৈব sarasas also, পতত্রিণঃ birds, নিষ্পতন্তি flying out.

'Drenched in water the swans, kuraras, and sarasas were seen emerging with water dripping from thier wings.
সাধ্বত্র প্রবিশামেতি মযা তূক্তাঃ প্লবঙ্গমাঃ৷

তেষামপি হি সর্বেষামনুমানমুপাগতম্৷৷4.52.13৷৷


অত্র here, সাধু it is proper, প্রবিশাম let us enter, ইতি thus, মযা by me, প্লবঙ্গমাঃ monkeys, উক্তাঃ have been told, তেষাম্ for them, সর্বেষামপি for all of them, অনুমানম্ inferring, উপাগতম্ came in.

'I suggested to the fellow-monkeys to enter this cave, inferring that there would be water and all of them came to the same conclusion.
গচ্ছাম প্রবিশামেতি ভর্তৃকার্যত্বরান্বিতাঃ৷

ততো গাঢং নিপতিতা গৃহ্য হস্তৌ পরস্পরম্৷৷4.52.14৷৷


ভর্তৃকার্যত্বরান্বিতাঃ in haste to carry out the orders of our king, প্রবিশামঃ let us enter, গচ্ছাম let us go, নিপতিতাঃ we jumped in, ততঃ then, পরস্পরম্ each one holding the other, হস্তৌ by hands, গাঢম্ firmly, গৃহ্য holding.

'We said, 'let us enter', since we were in a hurry to carry out our king's orders.Then we jumped in, holding one another's hand.

এতন্নঃ কার্যমেতেন কৃত্যেন বযমাগতাঃ৷৷4.52.15৷৷

ত্বাং চৈবোপগতাস্সর্বে পরিদ্যূনা বুভুক্ষিতাঃ৷


তিমিরসংবৃতম্ shrouded in darkness, ইদং বিলম্ this grotto, সহসা at once, প্রবিষ্টাঃ we entered, এতত্ this, নঃ our, কার্যম্ task, এতেন by this, কৃত্যেন by the task, বযম্ we, আগতাঃ we came, বুভুক্ষিতাঃ hungry ones, পরিদ্যূনাঃ vexed, সর্বে all of us, ত্বাম্ your, উপগতাশ্চৈব we reached.

'Vexed and starved, we entered this grotto shrouded in darkness.This is our task and we reached here (in the process).

অস্মাভিরুপভুক্তানি বুভুক্ষাপরিপীডিতৈঃ৷


বুভুক্ষাপরিপীডিতৈঃ tormented by hunger and thirst, অস্মাভিঃ us, আতিথ্যধর্মদত্তানি given out of hospitality, মূলানি চ roots and, ফলানি চ and fruits, উপভুক্তানি have eaten.

'You have given us roots and fruits out of hospitality and we have been taken them driven by hunger and thirst.
যত্ত্বযা রক্ষিতাস্সর্বে ম্রিযমাণা বুভুক্ষযা৷৷4.52.17৷৷

ব্রূহি প্রত্যুপকারার্থং কিং তে কুর্বন্তু বানরাঃ৷


বুভুক্ষযা by starvation, ম্রিযমাণাঃ dying, সর্বে all, যত্ as such, ত্বযা by you, রক্ষিতাঃ saved, বানরাঃ monkeys, তে to you, প্রত্যুপকারার্থম্ to repay you in turn, কিং কুর্বন্তু what can they do, ব্রূহি tell.

'We were dying from hunger when you saved us. Tell us what the monkeys can do to repay your debt?'.

তৈঃ বানরৈঃ by the monkeys, এবম্ thus, উক্তাঃ addressed, ধর্মজ্ঞৌঃ by the knowers of dharma, স্বযংপ্রভা Svayamprapbha, ততঃ then, সর্বান্ all, বানরপুঙ্গবান্ leaders among the monkeys, ইদম্ this, প্রত্যুবাচ replied.

To the leaders among the monkeys, knowers of dharma, who said this Svayamprabha replied:
সর্বেষাং পরিতুষ্টাস্মি বানরাণাং তরস্বিনাম্৷৷4.52.19৷৷

চরন্ত্যা মম ধর্মেণ ন কার্যমিহ কেনচিত্৷


তরস্বিনাম্ of those quick and energetic ones, সর্বেষাম্ about all of you, বানরাণাম্ of monkeys, পরিতুষ্টা pleased, অস্মি I am, ধর্মেণ in rghteousness, চরন্ত্যাঃ while practising, মম to me, ইহ now, কেনচিত্ any, কার্যম্ service, ন no need.

'I am very much pleased with all of you, smart monkeys. As I am engaged in the practice of righteousness, I do not need your services.
