[Hanuman's confrontation with Lankini, the spirit of Lanka.]

స లమ్బశిఖరే లమ్బే లమ్బతోయదసన్నిభే.

సత్త్వమాస్థాయ మేధావీ హనుమాన్ మారుతాత్మజః৷৷5.3.1৷৷

నిశి లఙ్కాం మహాసత్త్వో వివేశ కపికుఞ్జరః.

రమ్యకాననతోయాఢ్యాం పురీం రావణపాలితామ్৷৷5.3.2৷৷


మేధావీ intelligent, మారుతాత్మజః son of the Wind-god, మహాసత్త్వః mighty, కపికుఞ్జరః elephant among vanaras, సః that, హనుమాన్ Hanuman, లమ్బశిఖరే on the Lamba peak, లమ్బతోయదసన్నిభే resembling heavy rain-bearing cloud, లమ్బే on Lamba, సత్త్వమ్ energy, ఆస్థాయ relying on, రమ్యకాననతోయాఢ్యామ్ rich in delightful forests, groves and pools, రావణపాలితామ్ ruled by Ravana, లఙ్కాం పురీమ్ city of Lanka, నిశి in the night, వివేశ entered.

The mighty son of the Wind-god, intelligent Hanuman, an elephant among vanaras, standing on the peak of the Lamba which looked like a high rain-bearing cloud and relying on his energy, entered by night the city of Lanka, ruled by Ravana rich in delightful forests, groves and water pools.
శారదామ్బుధరప్రఖ్యైర్భవనైరుపశోభితామ్.

సుపుష్టబలసమ్పుష్టాం యథైవ విటపావతీమ్.

భుజగాచరితాం గుప్తాం శుభాం భోగవతీమివ.

తాం స విద్యుద్ఘనాకీర్ణాం జ్యోతిర్మార్గనిషేవితామ్৷৷5.3.5৷৷

శారదామ్భుధరప్రఖ్యైః like autumnal clouds, భవనైః mansions, ఉపశోభితామ్ beautiful, సాగరోపమనిర్ఘోషామ్ sounds of the roar of the sea, సాగరానిలసేవితామ్ served by the sea breeze, సుపుష్టబలసమ్పుష్టామ్ strong with well-nourished army, విటపావతీం యథైవ just as Vitapavati, చారుతోరణనిర్యూహామ్ stationed at the beautiful archways, పాణ్డురద్వారతోరణామ్ provided with white gates and archs, భుజగాచరితామ్ inhabited by snakes, గుప్తామ్ protected, శుభామ్ auspicious, భోగవతీమివ just as Bhogavati (Patala), the abode of serpents, సవిద్యుద్ఘనాకీర్ణామ్ overcast with clouds pierced by glittering streaks of lightning, జోతిర్మార్గనిషేవితామ్ served by planets and stars, మన్దమారుతసఞ్చారామ్ winds blowing mild (out of fear of Ravana), ఇన్ద్రస్య Indra's, అమరావతీం యథా like the city of Amaravati, శాతకుమ్భేన with golden, మహతా great, ప్రాకారేణ with rampart, అభిసంవతామ్ adorned everywhere, కిఙ్కిణీజాలఘోషాభిః with jingling sounds of small bells, పతాకాభిః with flags, అలఙ్కృతామ్ decorated, తామ్ that, సహసా at once, ఆసాద్య having reached, హృష్టః was thrilled, ప్రాకారమ్ the rampart, అభిపేదివాన్ surveyed.

Hanuman, happy to reach Lanka, stood on its rampart and surveyed the city of land which was splendid with beautiful mansions overcast with autumnal clouds pierced by glittering streaks of lightning, served by planets and stars with mild winds blowing (out of fear of Ravana), with the roaring sounds of the sea and with a well-fed army like Vitapavati (that is Alaka, the capital of Kubera, half-brother of Ravana and the treasurer of celestials), which had elephants sationed at the outer gates, provided with white archways and protected by serpents like the auspicious city of Bhogavati (capital of Patala). Surrounded by a golden rampart, the city resembled Amaravati, the capital of Indra, decorated with flags fluttering, echoing with the jingling sounds of small bells.
విస్మయావిష్టహృదయః పురీమాలోక్య సర్వతః.

జామ్బూనదమయైర్ద్వారైర్వైడూర్యకృతవేదికైః৷৷5.3.8৷৷

వజ్రస్ఫటికముక్తాభిర్మణికుట్టిమభూషితైః.

తప్తహాటకనిర్యూహై రాజతామలపాణ్డురైః৷৷5.3.9৷৷

వైఢూర్యకృతసోపానైః స్ఫాటికాన్తరపాంసుభిః.

చారుసంజవనోపేతైః ఖమివోత్పతితైః శుభైః৷৷5.3.10৷৷

క్రౌఞ్చబర్హిణసఙ్ఘుష్టైః రాజహంస నిషేవితైః.

తూర్యాభరణనిర్ఘోషైః సర్వతః ప్రతినాదితామ్৷৷5.3.11৷৷

వస్వౌకసారాప్రతిమాం తాం వీక్ష్య నగరీం తతః.

ఖమివోత్పతితుం కామాం జహర్ష హనుమాన్ కపిః৷৷5.3.12৷৷


పురీమ్ the city, సర్వతః all over, ఆలోక్య surveying, విస్మయావిష్టహృదయః wonder-struck at heart, తతః then, కపిః vanara, హనుమాన్ Hanuman, జమ్బూనదమయైః full of gold, ద్వారైః shutters, వైఢూర్యకృతవేదికైః platforms encrusted with vaidurya, వజ్రస్ఫటికముక్తాభిః with diamonds, crystals and pearls, మణికుట్టిమభూషితైః studded with gems, తప్తహాటకనిర్యూహైః made of molten gold, రాజతామలపాణ్డురైః pure white silver floors, వైఢూర్యకృతసోపానైః stairs-cases encrusted with vaidurya, స్ఫాటికాన్తరపాంసుభిః covered with crystal grains, చారుసంజవనోపేతైః with lovely quadrangles, క్రౌఞ్చబర్హిణసఙ్ఘుష్టైః echoing with sounds of Krauncha birds and Peacocks, రాజహంసనిషేవితైః inhabited by royal swans, ఖమ్ sky, ఉత్పతితైరివ rising into the sky, శుభైః auspicious, తూర్యాభరణనిర్ఘోషైః filled with sounds of musical instruments, సర్వతః all over, ప్రతినాదితామ్ resounding, వస్వౌకసారప్రతిమామ్ like the replica of the city of Vaswokasara, ఖమ్ sky, ఉత్పతితామ్ ఇవ as if risen, తామ్ that, లఙ్కాం నగరీమ్ city of Lanka, వీక్ష్య gazing, జహర్ష rejoiced.

Surveying all over, Hanuman was wonder-struck to see as though it was leaping into the sky. The city had golden shutters, altars encrusted with vaidurya, mansions inlaid with diamonds, crystals, pearls and other gems, crowned with pure gold and silver. The staircases built with silver were studded with vaidurya. The beautiful quadrangles, coverd with grains of crystal were as though leaping into the air. It echoed with sounds of krauncha birds, peacocks and royal swans. Filled with sounds of musical instruments, it resembled the city of Vaswokasara.
తాం సమీక్ష్య పురీం రమ్యాం రాక్షసాధిపతేః శుభామ్.

అనుత్తమామృద్ధియుతాం చిన్తయామాస వీర్యవాన్৷৷5.3.13৷৷


వీర్యవాన్ valiant, అనుత్తమామ్ excellent, ఋద్ధియుతామ్ prosperous, రమ్యామ్ enchanting, శుభామ్ auspicious, రాక్షసాధిపతేః of the king of demons, తాం పురీమ్ that city, సమీక్ష్య gazing, చిన్తయామాస reflected:

Gazing at the enchanting, auspicious, prosperous city of the king of demons mighty Hanuman began to reflect:
నేయమన్యేన నగరీ శక్యా ధర్షయితుం బలాత్.

రక్షితా రావణబలైరుద్యతాయుధధారిభిః৷৷5.3.14৷৷


ఉద్యతాయుధధారిభిః ready to fight, రావణబలైః by Ravana's forces, రక్షితా protected, ఇయం నగరీ this city, అన్యేన by others, బలాత్ with force, ధర్షయితుమ్ to attack, న శక్యా not posible.

'It is not possible to attack this city by to outsiders as it is protected by the forces of Ravana with their weapons ready(to attack).
కుముదాఙ్గదయోర్వాపి సుషేణస్య మహాకపేః.

ప్రసిద్ధేయం భవేద్భూమిర్మైన్దద్వివిదయోరపి৷৷5.3.15৷৷


ఇయమ్ this, భూమిః land, కుముదాఙ్గదయోర్వాపి by Kumuda and Angada, మహాకపేః of the great vanara, సుషేణస్య for Sushena, మైన్దద్వివిదయోరపి for Mainda and Dvivida also, ప్రసిద్ధా may be accessible, భవేత్ be.

'This land can be reached by Kumuda and Angada or the great vanara Sushena and even by Mainda and Dvivida.
వివస్వతస్తనూజస్య హరేశ్చ కుశపర్వణః.

ఋక్షస్య కపిముఖ్యస్య మమ చైవ గతిర్భవేత్৷৷5.3.16৷৷


వివస్వతః Sun's, తనూజస్య of the son, హరేః monkey's, కుశపర్వణః of Kushaparva, కపిముఖ్యస్య of the chief of vanaras, కేతుమాలస్య for Ketumala, ఋక్షస్య for Riksha (Jambavan) also, మమ చైవ for me also, గతిః within reach, భవేత్ will be.

'Son of Vivaswan (Sugriva), the chief of vanaras, Kushaparva, Riksha (Jambavan) and myself also will be able to reach this place.
సమీక్ష్య తు మహాబాహూ రాఘవస్య పరాక్రమమ్.

లక్ష్మణస్య చ విక్రాన్తమభవత్ ప్రీతిమాన్ కపిః৷৷5.3.17৷৷


కపిః vanara, మహాబాహు: long-armed, రాఘవస్య Raghava's, పరాక్రమమ్ valour, లక్ష్మణస్య Lakshmana's, విక్రాన్తం చ valiant advances, సమీక్ష్య after considering, ప్రీతిమాన్ pleased, అభవత్ felt.

Reflecting upon the valour of long-armed Rama and valiant advances of Lakshmana Hamuman felt pleased (within himself).
తాం రత్నవసనోపేతాం కోష్ఠాగారావతంసకామ్.

యన్త్రాగారస్తనీమృద్ధాం ప్రమదామివ భూషితామ్৷৷5.3.18৷৷

తాం నష్టతిమిరాం దీప్తైర్భాస్వరైశ్చ మహాగృహైః.

నగరీం రాక్షసేన్ద్రస్య స దదర్శ మహాకపిః৷৷5.3.19৷৷


సః మహాకపిః the great vanara, రత్నవసనోపేతామ్ clad in robes studded with gems, కోష్ఠాగారావతంసకామ్ stable houses as her ear-rings, యన్త్రాగారామ్ armouries, ఋద్ధామ్ breasts, భూషితామ్ ornamented, ప్రమదామివ like a young maiden, దీప్తై: by glittering ones, భాస్వరైశ్చ by glowing, మహాగృహైః by great mansions, నష్టతిమిరామ్ dispelled darkness, తామ్ hero, రాక్షసేన్ద్రస్య demon king's, నగరీమ్ city, దదర్శ saw.

Hanuman looked at the city of the demon king, whose darkness was dispelled by bright gems and mighty mansions as if it were a young maiden. The prosperous city was like a well decorated woman, adorned with ornaments having walls for her dress,
the stables for her ear-rings, the armouries for her breasts.
థ సా హరిశార్దూలం ప్రవిశన్తం మహాబలమ్.

నగరీ స్వేన రూపేణ దదర్శ పవనాత్మజమ్৷৷5.3.20৷৷


అథ then, సా నగరీ that city, హరిశార్దూలమ్ tiger among vanaras, మహాబలమ్ of great prowess, పవనాత్మజమ్ son of the Wind-god, ప్రవిశన్తమ్ while he entered, స్వేన in her real, రూపేణ form, దదర్శ saw.

Assuming her real form the presiding deity of Lanka noticed the son of the Wind-god, the tiger among vanaras of great prowess entering the city.
సా తం హరివరం దృష్ట్వా లఙ్కా రావణపాలితా.

స్వయమేవోత్థితా తత్ర వికృతాననదర్శనా৷৷5.3.21৷৷


రావణపాలితా ruled by Ravana, సా లఙ్కా that Lanka, తం హరివరమ్ that best of vanaras, తత్ర there, దృష్ట్వా after seeing, వికృతాననదర్శనా appeared with a distorted face, స్వయమేవ herself, ఉత్థితా rose.

Seeing the best of vanaras, the deity of the city of Lanka, ruled by Ravana rose up before him in a distorted form.
పురస్తాత్కపివర్యస్య వాయుసూనోరతిష్ఠత.

ముఞ్చమానా మహానాదమబ్రవీత్పవనాత్మజమ్৷৷5.3.22৷৷


కపివర్యస్య at the great vanara, వాయుసూనోః of the son of the Wind-god, పురస్తాత్ in front of, అతిష్ఠత stood, మహానాదమ్ loud sound, ముఞ్చమానా while producing, పవనాత్మజమ్ to the son of the Wind-god, అబ్రవీత్ said.

She stood in front of the son of the Wind-god and spoke to him in a loud voice.
కస్త్వం కేన చ కార్యేణ ఇహ ప్రాప్తో వనాలయ.

కథయస్వేహ యత్తత్త్వం యావత్ప్రాణా ధరన్తి తే৷৷5.3.23৷৷


వనాలయ one who dwells in the forest, త్వమ్ you, కః who are you, కేన కార్యేణ for what purpose, ఇహ here, ప్రాప్తః arrived, తే your, ప్రాణాః life, యావత్ until, ధరన్తి hold on, ఇహ here, తత్త్వమ్ truth, యత్ that, కథయస్వ reveal.

"O dweller of the forest, who are you? Why did you come here? Speak the truth about your identity, so long as you hold on to your life.
న శక్యం ఖల్వియం లఙ్కా ప్రవేష్టుం వానర త్వయా.

రక్షితా రావణబలైరభిగుప్తా సమన్తతః৷৷5.3.24৷৷


వానర vanara, రావణబలైః by Ravana's army, రక్షితా protected, సమన్తతః everywhere, అభిగుప్తా kept secret, ఇయం లఙ్కా this Lanka, త్వయా by you, ప్రవేష్టుమ్ to enter, న శక్యం ఖలు surely not possible.

"O vanara! this Lanka is a secret place protected by Ravana's army everywhere. It is surely not possible for you to enter this city".
అథ తామబ్రవీద్వీరో హనుమానగ్రతః స్థితామ్.

కథయిష్యామి తే తత్త్వం యన్మాం త్వం పరిపృచ్ఛసి৷৷5.3.25৷৷


అథ now, వీరః hero, హనుమాన్ Hanuman, అగ్రతః in front, స్థితామ్ standing, తామ్ her, అబ్రవీత్ spoke, యత్ since, త్వమ్ you, మామ్ me, పరిపృచ్ఛసి you are enquiring, తత్త్వమ్ truly, తే to you, కథయిష్యామి I will tell.

Then Hanuman who was standing in front of her said, "I will tell you the truth since you are asking me".
కా త్వం విరూపనయనా పురద్వారేవతిష్ఠసి.

కిమర్థం చాపి మాం రుద్ధ్వా నిర్భర్త్సయసి దారుణా৷৷5.3.26৷৷


పురద్వారే at the gate of the city, అవతిష్ఠసి stands, విరూపనయనా woman of ugly distorted eyes, త్వమ్ you, కా who are, దారుణా dreadful, మామ్ me, రుద్ధ్వా after obstructing, కిమర్థమ్ why, నిర్భర్త్సయసి threatening.

"Who are you, terrible woman of ugly, distorted eyes? Why are you obstructing me at the gate of the city? Why do you impound upon me?
హనుమద్వచనం శ్రుత్వా లఙ్కా సా కామరూపిణీ.

ఉవాచ వచనం క్రుద్ధా పరుషం పవనాత్మజమ్৷৷5.3.27৷৷


కామరూపిణీ one who can assume any form at free will, సా లఙ్కా that Lanka, హనుమద్వచనమ్ Hanuman's words, శ్రుత్వా on hearing, క్రుద్ధా enraged, పవనాత్మజమ్ son of Wind-god, పరుషమ్ harsh, వచనమ్ words, ఉవాచ spoke.

The spirit of Lanka who could assume any form at her will got enraged on hearing the words of Hanuman and spake in a harsh tone.;
అహం రాక్షసరాజస్య రావణస్య మహాత్మనః.

ఆజ్ఞాప్రతీక్షా దుర్ధర్షా రక్షామి నగరీమిమామ్৷৷5.3.28৷৷


రాక్షసరాజస్య demon king's, మహాత్మనః of the great self, రావణస్య Ravana's, ఆజ్ఞాప్రతీక్షా waiting for his orders, దుర్ధర్షా unassailable, అహమ్ I, ఇమాం నగరీమ్ this city, రక్షామి Iam protecting.

"In obedience to the orders of the great demon king, Ravana, I am protecting this unassailable city.
న శక్యా మామవజ్ఞాయ ప్రవేష్టుం నగరీ త్వయా.

అద్య ప్రాణైః పరిత్యక్తః స్వప్స్యసే నిహతో మయా৷৷5.3.29৷৷


మామ్ myself, అవజ్ఞాయ after ignoring, నగరీ into this city, త్వయా by you, ప్రవేష్టుమ్ to enter, న శక్యా
not possible, అద్య now, మయా by me, నిహతః slayed, ప్రాణైః life, పరిత్యక్తః giving up life, స్వప్స్యసే you will attain eternal sleep.

"It is not possible for you to enter this city ignoring my presence. Soon you will be killed. You will give up your life and attain eternal sleep.
అహం హి నగరీ లఙ్కా స్వయమేవ ప్లవఙ్గమ.

సర్వతః పరిరక్షామి హ్యేతత్తే కథితం మయా৷৷5.3.30৷৷


ప్లవఙ్గమ monkey, అహమ్ I, స్వయమ్ myself, లఙ్కానగరీ city of Lanka, సర్వతః all over, పరిరక్షామి I will be protecting, ఏతత్ as such, తే to you, మయా by me, కథితం హి is told.

"O monkey! I am the presiding ogress of Lanka presenting myself personally. I am to protect this city. This is my answer to you".
లఙ్కాయా వచనం శ్రుత్వా హనుమాన్ మారుతాత్మజః.

యత్నవాన్స హరిశ్రేష్ఠః స్థితశ్శైల ఇవాపరః৷৷5.3.31৷৷


మారుతాత్మజః son of the Wind-god, హరిశ్రేష్ఠః best of the monkeys, సః he, హనుమాన్ Hanuman, లఙ్కాయాః Lanka's, వచనమ్ words, శ్రుత్వా on hearing, యత్నవాన్ he got ready, అపరః another, శైలః mountain, స్థితః stood, ఇవ like.

On hearing the words of ogress of Lanka, the son of the Wind-god stood up ready and appeared like another mountain.
స తాం స్త్రీరూపవికృతాం దృష్టవా వానరపుఙ్గవః.

ఆబభాషేథ మేధావీ సత్త్వవాన్ ప్లవగర్షభః৷৷5.3.32৷৷


అథ and then, మేధావీ wise one, సత్త్వవాన్ powerful, ప్లవగర్షభః a bull among vanaras, వానరపుఙ్గవః chief of vanaras, సః that, స్త్రీరూపవికృతామ్ monster of a woman, తామ్ her, దృష్ట్వా after seeing, ఆబభాషే spoke.

Seeing the monster of a woman, the powerful Hanuman, bull among vanaras endowed with wisdom spoke to her.
ద్రక్ష్యామి నగరీం లఙ్కాం సాట్టప్రాకారతోరణామ్.

నిర్విశఙ్కమిమంలోకం పశ్యన్త్యాస్తవసాంప్రతమ్.

ఇత్యర్థమిహ సంప్రాప్తః పరం కౌతూహలం హి మే৷৷5.3.33৷৷


సాట్టప్రాకారతోరణామ్ market-places, ramparts and gateways, నిర్విశఙ్కమ్ freely, ఇమం లోకం this world, లఙ్కాం నగరీమ్ Lanka city, ద్రక్ష్యామి I see, ఇత్యర్థమ్ for this reason, ఇహ here, సంప్రాప్తః I came here, మే to myself, పరమ్ great, కౌతూహలం హి curiosity

"I would like to see this Lanka with market-places, gateways and ramparts. I have come here for that purpose. My curiosity has been roused to see this place.
వనాన్యుపవనానీహ లఙ్కాయాః కాననాని చ.

సర్వతో గృహముఖ్యాని ద్రష్టుమాగమనం హి మే৷৷5.3.34৷৷


లఙ్కాయాః Lanka's, వనాని gardens, ఉపవనాని groves, కాననాని చ and even forests, సర్వతః all over, గృహముఖ్యాని important houses, ద్రష్టుమ్ to see, ఇహ here, మే myself, ఆగమనం హి have arrived.

"I have arrived here to see Lanka's gardens, groves and forests and also all the important houses".
తస్య తద్వచనం శ్రుత్వా లఙ్కా సా కామరూపిణీ.

భూయ ఏవ పునర్వాక్యం బభాషే పరుషాక్షరమ్৷৷5.3.35৷৷


కామరూపిణీ one who can assume any form at free will, లఙ్కా Lanka, తస్య his, తత్ that, వచనమ్ words, శ్రుత్వా after hearing, పునః again, భూయః ఏవ more, వాక్యమ్ words, పరుషాక్షరమ్ in harsh words, బభాషే spoke.

On hearing Hanuman, the ogress of Lanka, who could assume any form, replied in harsh words:
మామనిర్జిత్య దుర్బుద్ధే రాక్షసేశ్వరపాలితాం.

న శక్యమద్య తే ద్రష్టుం పురీయం వానరాధమ৷৷5.3.36৷৷


దుర్బుద్ధే O evil-minded one!, వానరాధమ foolish monkey, మామ్ me, అనిర్జిత్య without conquering me, రాక్షసేశ్వరపాలితాం ruled by the demon king, ఇయం పురీ this city, అద్య now, ద్రష్టుమ్ to see, తే by you, న శక్యమ్ not possible.

"O evil-minded, foolish monkey! It is not possible for you to enter the city ruled by Ravana, the king of demons without conquering me".
తతః స కపిశార్దూలస్తామువాచ నిశాచరీమ్.

దృష్ట్వా పురీమిమాం భద్రే పునర్యాస్యే యథాగతమ్৷৷5.3.37৷৷


తతః then, సః that, కపిశార్దూల: tiger among monkeys, తామ్ her, నిశాచరీమ్ night-walker, ఉవాచ said, భద్రే O noble one, ఇమామ్ this, పురీమ్ city, దృష్ట్వా after seeing, పునః again, యథాగతమ్ as I came, యాస్యే I will go .

The tiger among monkeys said to the, the night-walker "O noble Lanka! I shall see this city and go back".
తతః కృత్వా మహానాదం సా వై లఙ్కా భయావహమ్.

తలేన వానరశ్రేష్ఠం తాడయామాస వేగితా৷৷5.3.38৷৷


తతః then, సా లఙ్కా that Lanka, భయావహమ్ frightening, మహానాదమ్ loud noise, కృత్వా after making, వేగితా with speed, వానరశ్రేష్ఠమ్ best vanara, తలేన with her palm, తాడయామాస struck.

Then the ogress of Lanka made a loud and frightening sound and struck the most powerful vanara with the palm of her hand.
తతః స కపిశార్దూలో లఙ్కయా తాడితో భృశమ్.

ననాద సుమహానాదం వీర్యవాన్ పవనాత్మజః৷৷5.3.39৷৷


తతః then, లఙ్కయా by Lanka, భృశమ్ very much (badly), తాడితః hit, వీర్యవాన్ heroic one, పవనాత్మజః son of the Wind-god, సః కపిశార్దూలః that tiger among vanaras, సుమహానాదమ్ loud noise, ననాద made.

At this strong slap, the heroic Hanuman, son of the Wind-god roared loudly.
తతః సంవర్తయామాస వామహస్తస్య సోఙ్గులీః.

ముష్టినాభిజఘానైనాం హనుమాన్ క్రోధమూర్ఛితః৷৷5.3.40৷৷

స్త్రీ చేతి మన్యమానేన నాతిక్రోధః స్వయం కృతః.


తతః then, సః that, హనుమాన్ Hanuman, క్రోధమూర్ఛితః overcome by anger, వామహస్తస్య left hand, అఙ్గులీః fingers, సంవర్తయామాస clenched, ఏనామ్ her, ముష్టినా with his fist, అభిజఘాన hit her, స్త్రీ చ ఇతి that she is a woman, మన్యమానేన considering, స్వయమ్ himself, అతిక్రోధః outrageous, న కృతః did not develop.

Overcome by anger, Hanuman clenched the fingers of his left hand and hit her with his fist. Considering her to be, after all, a woman he did not turn outrageous.
సా తు తేన ప్రహారేణ విహ్వలాఙ్గీ నిశాచరీ৷৷5.3.41৷৷

పపాత సహసా భూమౌ వికృతాననదర్శనా.


సా that, నిశాచరీ తు night roamer, తేన ప్రహారేణ that stroke, విహ్వలాఙ్గీ her limbs shattered, సహసా at once, భూమౌ on the, పపాత fell, వికృతాననదర్శనా with her face distorted.

Struck by the blow of Hanuman the demoness fell down on the ground at once, her limbs shattered, her face distorted.
తతస్తు హనుమాన్ ప్రాజ్ఞస్తాం దృష్ట్వా వినిపాతితామ్৷৷5.3.42৷৷

కృపాం చకార తేజస్వీ మన్యమానః స్త్రియం తు తామ్.


తతః then, ప్రాజ్ఞః wise, తేజస్వీ brilliaint, హనుమాన్ Hanuman, వినిపాతితామ్ fallen woman, తామ్ her, దృష్ట్వా after seeing, తామ్ her, స్త్రియమ్ is a woman, మన్యమానః thinking in the mind, కృపామ్ compassion, చకార showed.

Wise and brilliant Hanuman, seeing the deity fallen down, left her (without killing her) out of compassion, thinking that she is a woman, after all.
తతో వై భృశసంవిగ్నా లఙ్కా సా గద్గదాక్షరమ్৷৷5.3.43৷৷

ఉవాచాగర్వితం వాక్యం హనూమన్తం ప్లవఙ్గమమ్.


తతః then, సా that, లఙ్కా Lanka, భృశసంవిగ్నా greatly agitated, గద్గదాక్షరమ్ with choked voice, అగర్బితమ్ deflated of pride, వాక్యమ్ these words, ప్లవఙ్గమమ్ to the monkey, హనూమన్తమ్ to Hanuman, ఉవాచ said.

Thereafter, the deflated demoness of Lanka with an agitated voice, said to Hanuman, the monkey-hero:
ప్రసీద సుమహాబాహో త్రాయస్వ హరిసత్తమ ৷৷5.3.44৷৷

సమయే సౌమ్య తిష్ఠన్తి సత్త్వవన్తో మహాబలాః.


సుమహాబాహో O long-armed, హరిసత్తమ great monkey, ప్రసీద be gracious, త్రాయస్వ save me, సౌమ్య noble, సత్త్వవన్తః hero of great strength, మహాబలాః strong, సమయే when the time comes, తిష్ఠన్తి abide.

"O, strong-shouldered great monkey! be gracious. Save me. Heroes endowed with great strength stay back when the time comes.
అహం తు నగరీ లఙ్కా స్వయమేవ ప్లవఙ్గమ৷৷5.3.45৷৷

నిర్జితాహం త్వయా వీర విక్రమేణ మహాబల.


ప్లవఙ్గమ O monkey!, అహం తు I, on my part, స్వయమ్ self, లఙ్కానగర్యేవ city of Lanka itself, మహాబల O strong one, వీర O hero, అహమ్ I, త్వయా by you, విక్రమేణ with valour, నిర్జితా won.

"O monkey! I am Lanka incarnate. You have conquered me by your strength and valour.
ఇదం తు తథ్యం శృణు వై బ్రువన్త్యా మే హరీశ్వర৷৷5.3.46৷৷

స్వయంభువా పురా దత్తం వరదానం యథా మమ.


హరీశ్వర O lord of vanaras!, పురా in the past, మమ to me, స్వయంభువా by the creator Brahma, యథా as, వరదానమ్ a boon, దత్తమ్ given, ఇదమ్ this, తథ్యం తు it is true, బ్రువన్త్యా while I tell you, మే to my self, శృణు వై listen.

"O lord of vanaras! in the past Creator Brahma had given me a boon which has come true. I will tell you. listen.
యదా త్వాం వానరః కశ్చిద్విక్రమాద్వశమానయేత్৷৷5.3.47৷৷

తదా త్వయా హి విజ్ఞేయం రక్షసాం భయమాగతమ్.


యదా when, కశ్చిత్ one, వానరః vanara, విక్రమాత్ by his prowess, త్వామ్ you, వశమ్ ఆనయేత్ vanquishes you,తదా then, రాక్షసామ్ for demons, భయమ్ danger, ఆగతమ్ will set in, త్వయా by you, విజ్ఞేయమ్ know.

'When a vanara vanquishes you by his prowess, you may know that destruction of ogres will set in.
స హి మే సమయః సౌమ్య ప్రాప్తోద్య తవ దర్శనాత్৷৷5.3.48৷৷

స్వయంభూ విహితః సత్యో న తస్యాస్తి వ్యతిక్రమః.


సౌమ్య O gentle one!, అద్య today, తవ your, దర్శనాత్ by your appearance, మే my, సః సమయః
that time, ప్రాప్తః approached, స్వయంభూవిహితః this is ordained by Brahma, సత్యః it is ture, తస్య his words, వ్యతిక్రమః a different course of action, నాస్తి not possible.

"O gentle one! the time ordained by Brahma has come today with your presence here. The truth revealed by Brahma, the self-born, cannot be proved otherwise.
సీతానిమిత్తం రాజ్ఞస్తు రావణస్య దురాత్మనః৷৷5.3.49৷৷

రక్షసాం చైవ సర్వేషాం వినాశః సముపాగతః.


దురాత్మనః of the evil-minded, రాజ్ఞః of the king, రావణస్య Ravana's, సర్వేషామ్ of all, రక్షసాం చ and demons, సీతా నిమిత్తమ్ caused by Sita, వినాశః ruin, సముపాగతః has come.

"The ruin of all demons and evil-minded king Ravana will take place due to (the abduction of) Sita.
తత్ప్రవిశ్య హరిశ్రేష్ఠ పురీం రావణపాలితామ్৷৷5.3.50৷৷

విధత్స్వ సర్వకార్యాణి యాని యానీహ వాఞ్ఛసి.


హరిశ్రేష్ఠ O great vanara!, తత్ therefore, రావణ పాలితామ్ ruled by Ravana, పురీమ్ city, ప్రవిశ్య after entering, ఇహ here, యాని యాని whatever, వాఞ్ఛసి you wish to do, సర్వకార్యాణి all works, విధత్స్వ undertake.

"O great vanara! enter the city ruled by Ravana and accomplish your purpose.
ప్రవిశ్య శాపోపహతాం హరీశ్వర శుభాం పురీం రాక్షసముఖ్యపాలితామ్.

యదృచ్ఛయా త్వం జనకాత్మజాం సతీం విమార్గ సర్వత్ర గతో యథాసుఖమ్৷৷5.3.51৷৷


హరీశ్వర O lord of vanaras!, శాపోపహతామ్ doomed by curse, రాక్షసముఖ్యపాలితామ్ ruled by the demon chief, శుభామ్ auspicious, పురీమ్ city, యదృచ్ఛయా freely, ప్రవిశ్య on entering, త్వమ్ you, సర్వత్ర all over, గతః gone, యథాసుఖమ్ with pleasure, సతీమ్ a chaste lady, జనకాత్మజామ్ daughter of Janaka, విమార్గస్వ search.

"O lord of vanaras! you may search for the chaste lady, daughter of king Janaka all over freely entering this doomed city, ruled by the chief of demons.
ఇత్యార్షే శ్రీమద్రామాయాణే వాల్మీకీయ ఆదికావ్యే సున్దరకాణ్డే తృతీయస్సర్గః৷৷
Thus ends the third sarga of Sundarakanda of the holy Ramayana, the first epic composed by sage Valmiki.
