[Sita further appeals to Hanuman]

maṇiṅ dattvā tataḥ sītā hanūmantamathābravīt.

abhijñānamabhijñātamētadrāmasya tattvataḥ৷৷5.39.1৷৷


sītā Sita, maṇiṅ Jewel, dattvā having given, tataḥ that way, hanūmantam to Hanuman, abravīt said, ētat this, rāmasya to Rama, abhijñāta known, tattvataḥ truly, abhijñānam signet.

Sita gave the jewel to Hanuman and said, "This signet ornament is known to Rama very well".
maṇiṅ tu dṛṣṭvā rāmō vai trayāṇāṅ saṅsmariṣyati.

vīrō jananyā mama ca rājñō daśarathasya ca৷৷5.39.2৷৷


maṇim jewel, dṛṣṭvā after seeing, rāmaḥ Rama, trayāṇām of three of us, jananyāḥ of the mother, mama ca me and, rājñaḥ king, daśarathasya ca Dasaratha and, saṅsmariṣyati will recall.

"Seeing this jewel,Rama will recall three of us, my mother, myself and the king Dasaratha" (as this was given by her mother at her marriage.)
sa bhūyastvaṅ samutsāhē cōditō harisattama.

asminkāryasamārambhē pracintaya yaduttaram৷৷5.39.3৷৷


harisattama great Hanuman, saḥ such Rama, tvam you, bhūyaḥ again, samutsāhacōditaḥ prompted by enthusiasm, asmin in this, kāryasamārambhē in this effort, yat that, uttaram now, pracintaya think over.

"Great Hanuman! you are enthused now. You may think over the future course of action.
tvamasminkāryaniryōgē pramāṇaṅ harisattama.

hanumanyatnamāsthāya duḥkhakṣayakarō bhava৷৷5.39.4৷৷

tasya cintayatō yatnō duḥkhakṣayakarō bhavēt.


harisattama O best of monkeys, asmin in this, kāryaniryōgē in carrying out this task, tvam you, pramāṇam are responsible, hanumān Hanuman, yatnam initiative, āsthāya after making, duḥkhakṣayakaraḥ reducer of suffering, bhava you are, tasya for him, cintayataḥ thinking, yatnaḥ effort, duḥkhakṣayakaraḥ reducer of grief, bhavēt become.

"O best of monkeys! it is your responsibility to carry out this task. O Hanuman! think carefully of that. Take the initiative to reduce my suffering. I am confident that you can do it."
sa tathēti pratijñāya mārutirbhīmavikramaḥ৷৷5.39.5৷৷

śirasā vandhya vaidēhīṅ gamanāyōpacakramē.


bhīmavikramaḥ possessed with fierceful valour, saḥ mārutiḥ that Maruti, tathēti so be it, pratijñāya promised, vaidēhīm to Vaidehi, śirasā with his head, vandhya having offered salutation, gamanāya to depart, upacakramē started.

Hanuman possessed with fierce valour said to Vaidehi, 'so be it' and bowed his head, and offered salutations before he departed.
jñātvā samprasthitaṅ dēvī vānaraṅ mārutātmajam৷৷5.39.6৷৷

bāṣpagadgadayā vācā maithilī vākyamabravīt.


dēvī noble lady, maithilī Mythili, mārutātmajam Maruti's son, vānaram vanara, samprasthitam who had started, jñātvā having realised, bāṣpagadgadayā with voice choked with tears, vācā with speech, vākyam these words, abravīt said.

The noble lady, Sita, having been fully convinced about Hanuman and realising that he is about to start, her voice was choked with tears. She said these words:
kuśalaṅ hanumanbrūyāḥ sahitau rāmalakṣmaṇau৷৷5.39.7৷৷

sugrīvaṅ ca sahāmātyaṅ vṛddhān sarvāṅśca vānarān.

brūyāstvaṅ vānaraśrēṣṭha kuśalaṅ dharmasaṅhitam৷৷5.39.8৷৷


vānaraśrēṣṭhaḥ O great vanara, hanuman O Hanuman, sahitau both, rāmalakṣmaṇau Rama and Lakshmana, kuśalam welfare, brūyāḥ you may communicate, sahāmātyam along with his ministers, sugrīvaṅ ca and Sugriva, vṛddhān elders, sarvān all, vānarān vanaras, tvam you, dharmasaṅhitam righteous manner, kuśalam welfare, brūyāḥ you may communicate

"O Hanuman the great! communicate my welfare to both Rama and Lakshmana, to Sugriva, his ministers, elderly vanaras in righteous order.
yathā sa ca mahābāhurmāṅ tārayati rāghavaḥ.

asmāddhuḥkhāmbusaṅrōdhāttvaṅ samādhātumarhasi৷৷5.39.9৷৷


mahābāhuḥ strong-armed, saḥ rāghavaḥ that Rama, asmāt from this, duḥkhāmbusaṅrōdhāt relieve me from this ocean of grief, yathā that way, tārayati he helps me to cross, tvam you, samādhātum to pacify, arhasi you may.

"You must pacify the strong-armed Rama in a manner by which he will help me to cross the ocean of grief and rlieve me.
jīvantīṅ māṅ yathā rāmaḥ sambhāvayati kīrtimān.

tattathā hanumanvācyaṅ vācā dharmamavāpnuhi৷৷5.39.10৷৷


hanumān Hanuman, kīrtimān illustrious one, rāmaḥ Rama, mām me, jīvantīm while I am alove, yathā in such way, sambhāvayati will take me, tat that, tathā that way, vācyam words, vācā tell, dharmam righteous, avāpnuhi you will acquire.

"Let the illustrious Rama take me alive. Help me with your (persuasive) words and you will acquire merit.
nityamutsāhayuktāśca vācaśrutvā tvayēritāḥ.

vardhiṣyatē dāśarathēḥ pauruṣaṅ madavāptayē৷৷5.39.11৷৷


tvayā you, īritāḥ spoken, utsāhayuktāḥ full of determination for action, vācaḥ words, nityam ever, śrutvā after hearing, madavāptayē for acquiring me, dāśarathēḥ son of Dasaratha, pauruṣam manliness, vardhiṣyatē will increase.

"On hearing your ever spirited words his manliness to get me back will be charged.
matsandēśayutā vācastvattaśśrutvā ca rāghavaḥ.

parākramavidhiṅ vīrō vidhivatsaṅvidhāsyati৷৷5.39.12৷৷


vīraḥ hero, rāghavaḥ Rama, tvattaḥ from you, matsandēśayutāḥ with repetition of my message, vācaḥ words, śrutvā after hearing, vidhivat arrange duly, parākramavidham following his valour, saṅvidhāsyati will make efforts.

sītāyā vacanaṅ śrutvā hanumānmārutātmajaḥ.

śirasyañjalimādhāya vākyamuttaramabravīt৷৷5.39.13৷৷


mārutātmajaḥ son of Maruta, hanumān Hanuman, sītāyāḥ Sita's, vacanam words, śrutvā after listening, śirasi on his head, añjalim folded palms, ādhāya placed, uttaram replied, vākyam these words, abravīt said.

"Having heard Sita's words, Hanuman, son of Maruta, placed his folded palms over his head in reverence and replied:
kṣipramēṣyati kākutsthō hāryṛkṣapravarairvṛtaḥ.

yastē yudhi vijityārīnśōkaṅ vyapanayiṣyati৷৷5.39.14৷৷


kākutstha: Kakutstha, haryṛkṣapravaraiḥ with vanaras and bears, kṣipram at once, ēṣyati he will hasten, yaḥ he, yudhi in war, arīn enemies, vijitya winning over, tē your, śōkam grief, vyapanayiṣyati will relieve.

"Kakutstha Rama, accompanied by vanaras and bears will reach here soon and conquer the enemies in war and relieve your grief.
na hi paśyāmi martyēṣu nāsurēṣu surēṣu vā.

yastasya kṣipatō bāṇānsthātumutsahatē.grataḥ৷৷5.39.15৷৷


yaḥ when he, bāṇān arrows, kṣipataḥ while he releases, tasya his, agrataḥ in front, sthātum to stand, utsahatē will have, martyēṣu among humans, nāsurēṣu or among demons, surēṣu vā or among gods, na hi paśyāmi I do not see.

"I do not see any one among humans or demons or even among gods who can face his arrows when released.
apyarkamapi parjanyamapi vaivasvataṅ yamam.

sa hi sōḍhuṅ raṇē śaktastava hētōrviśēṣataḥ৷৷5.39.16৷৷


saḥ he, raṇē in war, arkamapi even the Sun, parjanyamapi or the rain-god, vaivasvatam son of the Sun, yamam Yama the lord of death, sōḍhum to hear, śaktaḥ capable, tava hētōḥ for you, viśēṣataḥ specially.

"Indeed, Rama is capable of conquering even the Sun-god, or the rain-god or Yama (the son of the Sun) specially for your sake.
sa hi sāgaraparyantāṅ mahīṅ śāsitumīhati.

tvannimittō hi rāmasya jayō janakanandini৷৷5.39.17৷৷


saḥ he, sāgaraparyantām surrounded by the entire ocean, mahīm earth, śāsitum to rule, arhati hi is fit, janakanandini O Janaka's delight, rāmasya Rama's, jayaḥ victory, tvannimittō hi for your sake only.

"Rama is fit to rule the entire earth surrounded by the ocean. O delight of Janaka! he will succeed in serving your cause."
tasya tadvacanaṅ śrutvā samyaksatyaṅ subhāṣitam.

jānakī bahumēnē.tha vacanaṅ cēdamabravīt৷৷5.39.18৷৷


jānakī Janaki, tasya his, satyam truth, samyak proper, subhāṣitam good words, tat that, vacanam words, śrutvā on hearing, bahumēnē held in great esteem, atha then, idam thus, vacanaṅ ca and the word, abravīt said.

On hearing the truthful, proper, pleasing words by Hanuman whom she held in great esteem, Sita said this:
tatastaṅ prasthitaṅ sītā vīkṣamāṇā punaḥ punaḥ.

bhartṛsnēhānvitaṅ vākyaṅ sauhārdādanumānayat৷৷5.39.19৷৷


tataḥ then, sītā Sita, prasthitam ready to start, tam him, punaḥ punaḥ again and again, vīkṣamāṇā looking at, bhartṛsnēhānvitam conveying her love to Rama, vākyam word, sauhārdāt good-hearted, anumānayat she made him understand.

Sita again and again looked at Hanuman who was about to start. She made him understand her words conveying her love for Rama.
yadi vā manyasē vīra vasaikāhamarindama.

kasmiṅścitsaṅvṛtē dēśē viśrāntaḥśvō gamiṣyasi৷৷5.39.20৷৷


arindama O destroyer of enemies, vīra hero, manyasē yadi if you think so, kasmiṅścit some where, saṅvṛtē in a closed space, dēśē in location, ēkāham for one day, vasa you may stay, viśrāntaḥ rest, śvaḥ tomorrow, gamiṣyasi you may go.

"O destroyer of enemies! if you think of halting for a day you may do so in a solitary location and leave tomorrow.
mama cēdalpabhāgyāyā sānnidhyāttava vānara.

asya śōkasya mahatō muhūrtaṅ mōkṣaṇaṅ bhavēt৷৷5.39.21৷৷


vānara vanara, tava your, sānnidhyāt by the presence, alpabhāgyāyāḥ of an unfortunate woman, mama to me, mahataḥ great, asya śōkasya from the suffering, muhūrtam for a short while, mōkṣaṇam relief, bhavēt cēt will be.

"Your presence will relieve me of my suffering, if you stay here for a while.
gatē hi hariśārdūla punarāgamanāya tu.

prāṇānāmapi sandēhō mama syānnātra saṅśayaḥ৷৷5.39.22৷৷


hariśārdūla O tiger among vanaras, punarāgamanāya for your visit once again, gatē when you go, mama for me, prāṇānāmapi and for my life, sandēhaḥ doubt, syāt will be, atra here, sandēhaḥ doubt, na no.

"O tiger among vanaras! if you leave this place to come again, my life will be uncertain, (if your coming is uncertain). There is no doubt about it.
tavādarśanajaḥ śōkō bhūyō māṅ paritāpayēt.

duḥkhāddhuḥkhaparāmṛṣṭāṅ dīpayanniva vānara৷৷5.39.23৷৷


vānara vanara, duḥkhāt agonised, duḥkhaparāmṛṣṭām agony increased further, mām me, tava your,
adarśanajaḥ not seeing you, śōkaḥ sorrow, dīpayanniva as if inflamming my agony, bhūyaḥ again, paritāpayēt it will trouble me.

"My agony would be increased further by not seeing you. It would be inflamming my agony and I would be even more pained.
ayaṅ ca vīra sandēhastiṣṭhatīva mamāgrataḥ.

sumahāṅstvatsahāyēṣu haryṛkṣēṣu harīśvaraḥ৷৷5.39.24৷৷


vīra hero, harīśvara chief of vanaras, tvatsahāyēṣu your helpless, haryṛkṣēṣu among vanaras and bears, ayam this, sumahān great, sandēhaḥ doubtful, mama agrataḥ in front of me, tiṣṭhatīva dwells in my mind.

"O heroic chief of vanaras! I am doubtful as to whether vanaras and bears can extend help?
kathaṅ nu khalu duṣpāraṅ tariṣyanti mahōdadhim.

tāni haryṛkṣasainyāni tau vā naravarātmajau৷৷5.39.25৷৷


tāni those, haryṛkṣasainyāni army of vanaras and bears, tau they both, Rama and Lakshmana, naravarātmajau princes, duṣpāram difficult to cross, mahōdadhim ocean, kathaṅ nu how indeed, tariṣyanti they can cross.

"How can the army of vanaras and bears, for that matter, princes Rama and Lakshmana negotiate the ocean, which is difficult to cross?
trayāṇāmēva bhūtānāṅ sāgarasyāsya laṅghanē.

śaktissyādvainatēyasya tava vā mārutasya vā৷৷5.39.26৷৷


asya of this, sāgarasya ocean's, laṅghanē to leap, vainatēyasya vā for Bainateya (Garuda) or, tava vā or you, mārutasya or Wind-god vā or, trayāṇām for these three, bhūtānām living beings, śaktiḥ energy, syāt have.

"It is only three beings who have the capacity to leap over this ocean. Garuda, or you or the Wind-god.
tadasminkāryaniryōgē vīraivaṅ duratikramē.

kiṅ paśyasi samādhānaṅ tvaṅ hi kāryavidāṅ varaḥ৷৷5.39.27৷৷


vīra hero, tat such, ēvam in that way, duratikramē in a very difficult task, asmin in this, kāryaniryōgē the task, kim what, samādhānam means, paśyasi you foresee, tvam you, kāryavidām among those who are capable, varaḥ hi foremost.

"What means do you, being the foremost hero among the three who are capable performing this difficult task, foresee?
kāmamasya tvamēvaikaḥ kāryasya parisādhanē.

paryāptaḥ paravīraghna yaśasyastē phalōdayaḥ৷৷5.39.28৷৷


paravīraghna slayer of enemy heroes, asya kāryasya this task, parisādhanē to accomplish, tvam you, ēka ēva alone are, paryāptaḥ kāmam are competent, tē to you, phalōdayaḥ fruit, yaśasyaḥ of the accomplishment.

"O slayer of enemy heroes! if you alone can accomplish this task the fame of doing this will be yours.
balaissamagrairyadi māṅ rāvaṇaṅ jitya saṅyugē.

vijayī svapuraṅ yāyāttattasya sadṛśaṅ bhavēt৷৷5.39.29৷৷


saṅyugē in war, samagraiḥ with the entire, balaiḥ with army, rāvaṇam Ravana, jitya after winning, mām me, vijayī victorious , svapuram his own city, yāyāt yadi if he can reach, tat that, tasya his, sadṛśam worthy of him, bhavēt will be.

"It would be worthy of Rama if he with his entire army emerges victorious over Ravana
in a battle and takes me to his city.
śaraistu saṅkulāṅ kṛtvā laṅkāṅ parabalārdanaḥ.

māṅ nayēdyadi kākutsthaḥ tattasya sadṛśaṅ bhavēt৷৷5.39.30৷৷


parabalārdanaḥ slayer of enemy army, kākutsthaḥ Kakutstha, laṅkām Lanka, śaraiḥ with arrows, saṅkulām an agitated place, kṛtvā does, mām me, nayēdyadi if he takes, tat that, tasya his action, sadṛśam agreeable, bhavēt will be.

"If Kakutstha (Rama), slayer of the enemy army fills the entire Lanka with his arrows and takes me, then his action will be worthy of him.
tadyathā tasya vikrāntamanurūpaṅ mahātmanaḥ.

bhavēdāhavaśūrasya tathā tvamupapādaya৷৷5.39.31৷৷


tat that, mahātmanaḥ of the great self, āhavaśūrasya of the hero in war, tasya his, anurūpam worthy of him, vikrāntam victorious, yathā in such a way, bhavēt will be, tathā in that way, tvam you, upapādaya you may make arrangement.

"You may make arrangement in such a manner that, that great self, the hero in war makes his victorious march which is worthy of him."
tadarthōpahitaṅ vākyaṅ praśritaṅ hētusaṅhitam.

niśamya hanumānśēṣaṅ vākyamuttaramabravīt৷৷5.39.32৷৷


hanumān Hanuman, arthōpahitam meaningful, praśritam courteous, hētusaṅhitam logical, tat those, vākyam words, niśamya having heard, śēṣam the rest, vākyam word, abravīt said, uttaraṅ in reply.

Having heard the meaningful, courteous and logical words of Sita, Hanuman replied:
dēvi haryṛkṣasainyānāmīśvaraḥ plavatāṅ varaḥ.

sugrīvassattvasampannastavārthē kṛtaniścayaḥ৷৷5.39.33৷৷


dēvi Devi, haryṛkṣasainyānām of the army of vanaras and bears, īśvaraḥ lord, plavatāṅ varaḥ foremost among monkeys, sattvasampannaḥ richly endowed with satva-guna, sugrīvaḥ Sugriva, tava ardhē for your sake, kṛtaniścayaḥ detemined to accomplish.

"O Devi! the lord of monkeys, Sugriva heads the army of vanaras and bears. He is richly endowed with satva-guna and is determined to accomplish your cause and free you from sorrow.
sa vānarasahasrāṇāṅ kōṭībhirabhisaṅvṛtaḥ.

kṣipramēṣyati vaidēhi rākṣasānāṅ nibarhaṇaḥ৷৷5.39.34৷৷


vaidēhi Vaidehi, saḥ he, the Sugriva, vānarasahasrāṇām of thousands of vanaras, kōṭībhiḥ with crores of them, abhisaṅvṛtaḥ is surrounded, rākṣasānām of all the ogres, nibarhaṇaḥ will destroy, kṣipram swiftly, ēṣyati he will reach.

"O Vaidehi! Sugriva will reach this place with thousands of crores of vanaras very soon and would kill all the ogres.
tasya vikramasampannāssattvavantō mahābalāḥ.

manassaṅkalpasampātā nidēśē harayaḥ sthitāḥ৷৷5.39.35৷৷


vikramasampannāḥ powerful, sattvavantaḥ virtuous, mahābalāḥ mighty, manassaṅkalpasampātāḥ who can leap with the speed of mind, harayaḥ vanaras, tasya his, nidēśē at his command, sthitāḥ awaiting.

"Valiant, virtuous and powerful vanaras who can leap with the speed of mind are awaiting orders (of Sugriva).
yēṣāṅ nōpari nādhastānna tiryaksajjatē gatiḥ.

na ca karmasu sīdanti mahatsvamitatējasaḥ৷৷5.39.36৷৷


yēṣām for those monkeys, gatiḥ movement, upari upward, na sajjatē do not get impeded, adhastāt downward, na not, tiryak horizontally, na not, amitatējasaḥ very brilliant ones, mahatsu any kind, karmasu of task, na sīdanti do not care

"Their course cannot be impeded either upward, or downward or right or left. They are indeed very brilliant and would never fail in any task.
asakṛttairmahōtsāhaissasāgaradharādharā.

pradakṣiṇīkṛtā bhūmirvāyumārgānusāribhiḥ৷৷5.39.37৷৷


mahōtsāhaiḥ by the enthusiastic, vāyumārgānusāribhiḥ following aerial path, taiḥ by them, asakṛt repeatedly, sasāgaradharādharā with the oceans and mountains, bhūmiḥ earth, pradakṣiṇīkṛtā has been circumambulated.

"They have often circumambulated the earth including its oceans and mountains through the aerial path with great enthusiasm.
madviśiṣṭāśca tulyāśca santi tatra vanaukasaḥ.

mattaḥ pratyavaraḥ kaścinnāsti sugrīvasannidhau৷৷5.39.38৷৷


tatra there, madviśiṣṭāśca more powerful than me, tulyāśca those equal to me, vanaukasaḥ vanaras who move in the forest, santi are, mattaḥ to me, pratyavaraḥ inferior, kaścit not even one, sugrīvasannidhau under Sugriva, nāsti not there.

"The vanaras under Sugriva who move in the forest are more powerful than me or equal to me. None is inferior to me.
ahaṅ tāvadiha prāptaḥ kiṅ punastē mahābalāḥ.

na hi prakṛṣṭāḥ prēṣyantē prēṣyantē hītarē janāḥ৷৷5.39.39৷৷


ahaṅ tāvat I have, iha here, anuprāptaḥ reached, mahābalāḥ very powerful, tē to you, kiṅ punaḥ why
not others, prakṛṣṭāḥ the best ones, na prēṣyantē hi will not be sent, itarē others, janāḥ ordinary ones, prēṣyantē hi will be sent.

"If I have managed to come here, why not the other powerful ones? The superior leaders are not sent (as messengers). Only ordinary ones like me are.
tadalaṅ paritāpēna dēvi śōkō vyapaitu tē.

ēkōtpātēna tē laṅkāmēṣyanti hariyūthapāḥ৷৷5.39.40৷৷


dēvi noble lady, tat therefore, paritāpēna with lamentation, alam enough, tē your, śōkaḥ agony, vyapaitu may be given up, tē those, hariyūthapāḥ monkey troops, ēkōtpātēna in one stride, laṅkām to Lanka, ēṣyanti will reach.

"O noble lady! therefore, give up your agony. Enough of your lamentation. The monkey troops will reach this place in one stride.
mama pṛṣṭhagatau tau ca candrasūryāvivōditau.

tvatsakāśaṅ mahāsattvau nṛsiṅhāvāgamiṣyataḥ৷৷5.39.41৷৷


mahāsattvau both great men, nṛsiṅhau both lions among men, tau ca and both, mama my, pṛṣṭhagatau on my back, uditau just risen, candrasūryāviva like Sun and Moon, tvatsakāśam to your presence, āgamiṣyataḥ will come.

"Both the valiant Rama and Lakshmana, lions among men, looking brilliant like Sun and Moon will come to you riding on my back.
tatō vīrau naravarau sahitau rāmalakṣmaṇau.

āgamya nagarīṅ laṅkāṅ sāyakairvidhamiṣyataḥ৷৷5.39.42৷৷


tataḥ then, vīrau two heroes, naravarau both the princes, rāmalakṣmaṇau Rama and Lakshmana, sahitau together, āgamya on coming, laṅkāṅ nagarīm to the city of Lanka, sāyakaiḥ with their arrows, vidhamiṣyataḥ will blow away.

"Both the heroes, Rama and Lakshmana will come and blow up the city of Lanka with their unfailing arrows.
sagaṇaṅ rāvaṇaṅ hattvā rāghavō raghunandanaḥ.

tvāmādāya varārōhē svapurīṅ pratiyāsyati৷৷5.39.43৷৷


varārōhē O beautiful lady, raghunandanaḥ the delight of the Raghu race, rāghavaḥ Rama, sagaṇam along with his kins, rāvaṇam Ravana, hattvā on killing, tvām you, ādāya after taking you, svapurīm their city, pratiyāsyati would go back.

"O beautiful lady! Raghava, the delight of the Raghu race would kill Ravana and his kins and return with you to his city৷৷
tadāśvasihi bhadraṅ tē bhava tvaṅ kālakāṅkṣiṇī.

nacirāddrakṣyasē rāmaṅ prajvalantamivānalam৷৷5.39.44৷৷


tat therefore, āśvasihi rest assured, tē bhadram let it be auspicious to you, tvam you, kālakāṅkṣiṇī count your time, bhava be, prajvalantam burning, analam iva like the fire, rāmam Rama, nacirāt shortly, drakṣyasē would see.

"Therefore, count the days and rest assured. Let it be auspicious to you. You will shortly see Rama burning like fire.
nihatē rākṣasēndrē.sminsaputrāmātyabāndhavē.

tvaṅ samēṣvasi rāmēṇa śaśāṅkēnēva rōhiṇī৷৷5.39.45৷৷


saputrāmātyabāndhavē along with his sons, ministers and relatives, asmin when, rākṣasēndrē the king of demons, nihatē killed, tvam you, rōhiṇī Rohini, śaśāṅkēnēva like the Moon, rāmēṇa with Rama, samēṣyasi you will reunite.

"When Ravana is slain, with his sons, ministers and kith and kin, you will reunite with
Rama as Rohini unites with the Moon.
kṣipraṅ tvaṅ dēvi śōkasya pāraṅ yāsyasi maithili.

rāvaṇaṅ caiva rāmēṇa nihataṅ drakṣyasē.cirāt৷৷5.39.46৷৷


dēvi queen, maithili Mythili, tvam you, kṣipram soon, śōkasya grief, pāram to the other shore, yāsyasi will go, acirāt very shortly, rāmēṇa by Rama, rāvaṇam Ravana, nihataṅ slain, drakṣyasē caiva you will see.

"O queen Mythili! you come to the end of your sorrow and will soon see Ravana killed by Rama".
ēvamāśvāsya vaidēhīṅ hanumānmārutātmajaḥ.

gamanāya matiṅ kṛtvā vaidēhīṅ punarabravīt৷৷5.39.47৷৷


mārutātmajaḥ son of the Wind-god, hanumān Hanuman, vaidēhīm to Vaidehi, ēvam in that manner, āśvāsya having consoled, gamanāya to depart, matim thought, kṛtvā after resolving, punaḥ again, vaidēhīm to Vaidehi, abravīt said.

Having thus consoled Vaidehi, Hanuman, son of the Wind-god resolved to depart. Once again he spoke to Vadehi:
tamarighnaṅ kṛtātmānaṅ kṣipraṅ drakṣyasi rāghavam.

lakṣmaṇaṅ ca dhanuṣpāṇiṅ laṅkādvāramupāgatam৷৷5.39.48৷৷


laṅkādvāram at the entrance of Lanka, upāgatam reached, arighnam slayer of foes, kṛtātmānam an accomplished man, taṅ rāghavam that Rama, dhanuṣpāṇim wielder of bow, lakṣmaṇaṅ ca and Lakshmana, kṣipram very soon, drakṣyasi you will see.

"Very soon you would see the slayer of foes, who is an accomplished wielder of the bow (Rama) along with Lakshmana at the entrance of Lanka.
nakhadaṅṣṭrāyudhānvīrānsimhaśārdūlavikramān.

vānarānvāraṇēndrābhānkṣipraṅ drakṣyasi saṅgatān৷৷5.39.49৷৷


nakhadaṅṣṭrāyudhān whose nails and teeth are their weapons, vīrān heroes, siṅhaśārdūlavikramān resembling lion and tiger in valour, vāraṇēndrābhān who resemble well-bred elephants, saṅgatān reach, vānarān vanaras, kṣipram soon, drakṣyasi you will see.

"You will soon see heroic vanaras whose weapons are their teeth, who are like lion and tiger in their valour. They are (mighty) like well-bred elephants.
śailāmbudanikāśānāṅ laṅkāmalayasānuṣu.

nardatāṅ kapimukhyānāmāryē yūdhānyanēkaśaḥ৷৷5.39.50৷৷


āryē respectable lady!, śailāmbudanikāśānām whose body is like clouds on mountain, nardatām of the roaring, kapimukhyānām of the chiefs of vanaras, anēkaśaḥ in many ways, yūdhāni troops, laṅkāmalayasānuṣu on the mountain of Lanka.

"O respectable lady! you would see many troops of vanara chiefs who resemble clouds hovering on the mountain peaks of Lanka-roaring.
sa tu marmaṇi ghōrēṇa tāḍitō manmathēṣuṇā.

na śarma labhatē rāmassiṅhārdhita iva dvipaḥ৷৷5.39.51৷৷


saḥ rāmaḥ that Rama, ghōrēṇa by the dreadful, manmathēṣuṇā arrows of god of love, marmaṇi pierced into vitals, tāḍitaḥ hit, siṅhārditaḥ hit by a lion, dvipaḥ iva like an elephant, na śarma labhatē is not happy

"Rama is tormented by the dreadful arrows of the god of love pierced into vitals, like an elephant hit by a lion. He has no happiness in life.
mā rudō dēvi śōkēna mābhūttē manasō.priyam.

śacīva patyā śakrēṇa bhartrā nāthavatī hyasi৷৷5.39.52৷৷


dēvi devi, śōkēna with sorrow, mā rudaḥ do not cry, tē your, manasaḥ in mind, apriyam unpleasant, mābhūt no thought be entertained, patyā with a husband śakrēṇa to Indra, śacīva like Sachi, bhartrā by your husband, nāthavatī you have a great husband, asi hi you are.

"O devi! weep no more.Entertain no unpleasant thoughts.You have a great husband, just as Sachi has her lord Indra.
rāmādviśiṣṭaḥ kō.nyō.sti kaścitsaumitriṇā samaḥ.

agnimārutakalpau tau bhrātarau tava saṅśrayau৷৷5.39.53৷৷


rāmāt than Rama, viśiṣṭaḥ more distinguished, anyaḥ others, kaḥ who is there, asti is, saumitriṇā to Lakshmana, samaḥ equal, kaścit who is there, agnimārutakalpau equal to fire and wind, tau bhrātarau both brothers, tava your, saṅśrayau they are your refuge.

"Who is superior to Rama? Who is equal to Lakshmana? Both the brothers are like Fire and Wind. They are your refuge.
nāsmiṅściraṅ vatsyasi dēvi dēśē rakṣōgaṇairadhyuṣitē.tiraudrē.

na tē cirādāmagamanaṅ priyasya kṣamasva matsaṅgamakālamātram৷৷5.39.54৷৷


dēvi noble lady, rakṣōgaṇaiḥ by the hosts of ogres, adhyuṣitē in a stronghold, atiraudrē in a dreadful place, asmin dēśē country, ciram not very long, na vatsyasi will not stay, tē priyasya with your beloved, āgamanam coming, na cirāt not very long, matsaṅgamakālamātram for this period, kṣamasva pardon me.

"O noble lady! You will not stay longer in this country, which is a strong hold of hosts of demons and a dreadful place It will not be very long before you unite with your beloved. Pray, have patience till then.
ityārṣē śrīmadrāmāyaṇē vālmīkīya ādikāvyē sundarakāṇḍē ēkōnacatvāriṅśassargaḥ৷৷
Thus ends the thirtyninth sarga of Sundarakanda of the holy Ramayana, the first epic composed by sage Valmiki.
