[Killing of Jambumali by Hanuman]

సన్దిష్టో రాక్షసేన్ద్రేణ ప్రహస్తస్య సుతో బలీ.

జమ్బుమాలీ మహాదంష్ట్రో నిర్జగామ ధనుర్ధరః৷৷5.44.1৷৷

రక్తమాల్యామ్బరధరస్స్రగ్వీ రుచిరకుణ్డలః.

మహాన్వివృత్తనయనశ్చణ్డస్సమరదుర్జయః৷৷5.44.2৷৷

ధనుశ్శక్రధనుః ప్రఖ్యం మహద్రుచిరసాయకమ్.

విష్ఫారయాణో వేగేన వజ్రాశనిసమస్వనమ్৷৷5.44.3৷৷


మహాదంష్ట్రః one with big front teeth, ధనుర్ధరః bow in hand, రక్తమాల్యామ్బరధరః adorned with a garland of red flowers and red clothes, స్రగ్వీ wearing a chaplet, రుచిరకుణ్డలః with beautiful earrings, మహాన్ great, వివృత్తనయనః who had big round eyes, చణ్డః fierce, సమరదుర్జయః invincible in war, బలీ mighty, ప్రహస్తస్య సుతః son of Prahasta,జమ్బుమాలీ Jambumali,రాక్షసేన్ద్రేణ by the demon king, సన్దిష్టః commanded, మహత్ huge, రుచిరసాయకమ్ who had radiant arrows, వజ్రాశనిసమస్వనమ్ making sounds like thunderbolt, శక్రధనుఃప్రఖ్యమ్ like Indra's splendid bow (a rainbow), ధనుః bow, వేగేన very swiftly, విష్ఫారయాణః as if thundering, నిర్జగామ went out.

Commanded by the demon king, Jambumali the invincible son of Prahasta, who had large teeth in front, big rolling eyes, red flower garland, red robes and a chaplet with beautiful earrings. He went round twanging his producing thunderous sound. His arrows were huge, shining and beautiful.
తస్య విష్ఫారఘోషేణ ధనుషో మహతా దిశః.

ప్రదిశశ్చ నభశ్చైవ సహసా సమపూర్యత৷৷5.44.4৷৷


తస్య his, ధనుషః bow's, మహతా by the huge, విష్ఫారఘోషేణ by the twang, దిశః all directions,
ప్రదిశశ్చైవ and intermediate directions, నభశ్చైవ heavens also, సహసా at once, సమపూర్యత were filled.

All directions including the intermediate directions and the sky were filled with that loud sound produced by his twang.
రథేన ఖరయుక్తేన తమాగతముదీక్ష్య సః.

హనుమాన్వేగసమ్పన్నో జహర్ష చ ననాద చ৷৷5.44.5৷৷


ఖరయుక్తేన drawn by donkeys, రథేన by the chariot, ఆగతమ్ reached, తమ్ him, ఉదీక్షయ after seeing, సః హనుమాన్ that Hanuman, వేగసమ్పన్నః who was endowed with speed, జహర్ష చ felt glad, ననాద చ and made a loud noise.

Seeing him coming in a chariot drawn by donkeys, Hanuman who was swift to act was glad (to have an opportunity to fight) and made a loud noise.
తం తోరణవిటఙ్కస్థం హనుమన్తం మహాకపిమ్.

జమ్బుమాలీ మహాబాహుర్వివ్యాధ నిశితైశ్శరైః৷৷5.44.6৷৷


మహాబాహుః strong-armed one, జమ్బుమాలీ Jambumali, తోరణవిటఙ్కస్థమ్ who stood on top of the exit archway, మహాకపిమ్ great monkey, తం హనుమన్తమ్ that Hanuman, నిశితైః with sharp, శరైః with arrows, వివ్యాధ hit hard.

Strong-armed Jambumali with his sharp arrows hit great Hanuman who stood on top of the exit archway.
అర్ధచన్ద్రేణ వదనే శిరస్యేకేన కర్ణినా.

బాహ్వోర్వివ్యాధ నారాచైర్దశభిస్తం కపీశ్వరమ్৷৷5.44.7৷৷


అర్ధచన్ద్రేణ with a crescent-shaped arrow, వదనే on the face, ఏకేన with one, కర్ణినా ear shaped arrow, శిరసి on the head, దశభిః ten, నారాచైః iron arrows, బాహ్వోః into the arms, తం కపీశ్వరమ్ that lord of monkeys, వివ్యాధ hit.

Jambumali released a crescent-shaped arrow on the face, one ear-shaped (barbed) arrow on the head and ten iron arrows into the arms of the lord of monkeys.
తస్య తచ్ఛుశుభే తామ్రం శరేణాభిహతం ముఖమ్.

శరదీవామ్బుజం ఫుల్లం విద్ధం భాస్కరరశ్మినా৷৷5.44.8৷৷


శరేణ by an arrow, అభిహతమ్ struck, తామ్రమ్ reddish, తత్ his, ముఖమ్ face, శరది in autumn, భాస్కరశ్మినా with Sun's radiance, విద్ధమ్ hit, ఫుల్లమ్ blown, అమ్బుజమివ like a lotus, శుశుభే appeared.

His red face struck by an arrow appeared like a full-blown lotus in autumn season hit by the rays of the Sun.
తత్తస్య రక్తం రక్తేన రఞ్జితం శుశుభే ముఖమ్.

యథాకాశే మహాపద్మం సిక్తం చన్దనబిన్దుభిః৷৷5.44.9৷৷


రక్తేన by blood, రఞ్జితమ్ glowing, రక్తమ్ red, తస్య his, తత్ that, ముఖమ్ face, చన్దనబిన్దుభిః with sandal drops, సిక్తమ్ sprinkled, ఆకాశే in the sky, మహాపద్మం యథా like a great lotus, శుశుభే looked bright.

His red face stained with blood was glowing bright like red lotus in the sky sprinkled with drops of red sandal.
చుకోప బాణాభిహతో రాక్షసస్య మహాకపిః.

తతః పార్శ్వేతివిపులాం దదర్శ మహతీం శిలామ్৷৷5.44.10৷৷


బాణాభిహతః struck by the shafts, మహాకపిః great monkey, రాక్షసస్య of the demon, చుకోప enraged, తతః then, పార్శ్వే lying beside, అతివిపులామ్ huge, మహతీమ్ on the ground, శిలామ్ rock, దదర్శ he saw.

Struck by the shafts of the ogre, the great monkey was enraged and happened to see
a huge, heavy rock lying beside him on the ground.
తరసా తాం సముత్పాట్య చిక్షేప బలవద్భలీ.

తాం శరైర్దశభిః క్రుద్ధస్తాడయామాస రాక్షసః৷৷5.44.11৷৷


బలీ a powerful one, తామ్ that boulder, తరసా with vehemence, సముత్పాట్య having lifted, బలవత్ with his strength, చిక్షేప hurled, రాక్షసః giant, క్రుద్ధః angrily, తామ్ that rock, దశభిః with ten, శరైః with arrows, తాడయామాస smashed.

Powerful Hanuman with all vehemence lifted the rock and hurled it at the giant which he angrily smashed with ten arrows.
విపన్నం కర్మ తద్దృష్ట్వా హనుమాంశ్చణ్డవిక్రమః.

సాలం విపులముత్పాట్య భ్రామయామాస వీర్యవాన్৷৷5.44.12৷৷


చణ్డవిక్రమః who had fierce power, వీర్యవాన్ a warrior, హనుమాన్ Hanuman, తత్ that కర్మ action, విపన్నమ్ failed, దృష్ట్వా seeing, విపులమ్ huge, సాలమ్ sala tree, ఉత్పాట్య pulled out, భ్రామయామాస whirled.

Hanuman, a strong, powerful and fierce warrior pulled out a sala tree and whirled it. Seeing that his attempt has failed.
భ్రామయన్తం కపిం దృష్ట్వా సాలవృక్షం మహాబలమ్.

చిక్షేప సుబహూన్బాణాన్జమ్బుమాలీ మహాబలః৷৷5.44.13৷৷


మహాబలః mighty, జమ్బుమాలీ Jambumali, సాలవృక్షమ్ sala tree, భ్రామయన్తమ్ after whirling, మహాబలమ్ mighty, కపిమ్ monkey, దృష్ట్వా after seeing, సుబహూన్ many, బాణాన్ arrows, చిక్షేప fired.

Gigantic Jambumali seeing the mighty Hanuman whirling the sala tree fired many arrows at him.
సాలం చతుర్భిశ్చిచ్ఛేద వానరం పఞ్చభిర్భుజే.

ఉరస్యేకేన బాణేన దశభిస్తు స్తనాన్తరే৷৷5.44.14৷৷


సాలమ్ sala tree, చతుర్భిః with four, చిచ్ఛేద cut off, వానరమ్ vanara, పఞ్చభిః with five, భుజే on his arm, ఉరసి on his chest, ఏకేన బాణేన with one arrow, స్తనాన్తరే in the hollow of the chest, దశభిః with ten.

He struck the sala tree with four arows, the arm of Hanuman with five arrows, chest with one, the hollow of the chest with ten more arrows.
స శరైః పూరితతను: క్రోధేన మహతా వృతః.

తమేవ పరిఘం గృహ్య భ్రామయామాస వేగితః৷৷5.44.15৷৷


శరైః arrows, పూరితతను: the body was filled, సః that, మహతా intense, క్రోధేన with anger, వృతః endowed, వేగితః speedily, తం పరిఘమేవ the same iron spear, గృహ్య seized, భ్రామయామాస started whirling.

Hanuman filled with arrows all over his body, seized an iron spear (which he made use of in the initial battle) and impetuously spun it in intense anger.
అతివేగోతివేగేన భ్రామయిత్వా బలోత్కటః.

పరిఘం పాతయామాస జమ్బుమాలేర్మహోరసి৷৷5.44.16৷৷


బలోత్కటః of immeasurable strength, అతివేగః a hero of great speed, పరిఘమ్ iron spear, అతివేగేన with great speed, భ్రామయిత్వా after turning round and round, జమ్బుమాలేః on Jambumali, మహోరసి on the broad chest, పాతయామాస hurled.

Hanuman of immeasurable strength hurled the iron spear after turning it round and round at high speed on the broad chest of Jambumali.
తస్య చైవ శిరో నాస్తి న బాహూ న చ జానునీ.

న ధనుర్న రథో నాశ్వాస్తత్రాదృశ్యన్త నేషవః৷৷5.44.17৷৷


తత్ర there, తస్య his, శిరః చైవ even head, నాస్తి not there, బాహూ shoulders, న not, జానునీ knees, న not, ధనుః bow, న not, రథః chariot, న not, అశ్వాః donkeys, horses, నాదృశ్యన్తః not there to discern, ఇషవః న nothing was seen.

Neither his head could be discerned nor his arms, knees, nor bow, chariot nor donkeys. Nothing was seen.
స హతస్సహసా తేన జమ్బుమాలీ మహాబలః.

పపాత నిహతో భూమౌ చూర్ణితాఙ్గవిభూషణః৷৷5.44.18৷৷


తేన by that blow, హతః killed, మహాబలః mighty, జమ్బుమాలీ Jambumali, సహసా inconsiderately, నిహతః having been killed, చూర్ణితాఙ్గవిభూషణః with his ornaments reduced to powder, భూమౌ on the floor, పపాత fell down.

Mighty Jambumali killed by that blow dropped down dead at once with his ornaments reduced to powder.
జమ్బుమాలిం చ నిహతం కిఙ్కరాంశ్చ మహాబలాన్.

చుక్రోధ రావణశ్శుత్వా కోపసంరక్తలోచనః৷৷5.44.19৷৷


రావణః Ravana, జమ్బుమాలిం చ even Jambumali, నిహతమ్ being klled, మహాబలాన్ of great strength, కింకరాంశ్చ and kinkaras also, శ్రుత్వా hearing, కోపసంరక్తలోచనః blood-shot eyes, చుక్రోధ got enraged.

Ravana's eyes became blood-shot in anger when he heard about the death of Jambumali and of the strong army of kinkaras.
స రోషసంవర్తితతామ్రలోచనః ప్రహస్తపుత్త్రే నిహతే మహాబలే.

అమాత్యపుత్త్రానతివీర్యవిక్రమాన్ సమాదిదేశాశు నిశాచరేశ్వరః৷৷5.44.20৷৷


మహాబలే who had great strength, ప్రహస్తపుత్త్రే Prahasta's son, నిహతే killed, సః నిశాచరేశ్వరః demon king, రోషసంవర్తితతామ్రలోచనః his eyes red and rolling in anger, ఆశు quickly, అతివీర్యవిక్రమాన్ highly valiant wariors, అమాత్యపుత్రాన్ sons of ministers, సమాదిదేశ commanded.

When the mighty son of Prahasta was killed, infuriated Ravana, his eyes red and rolling, commanded the highly valiant sons of ministers.
ఇత్యార్షే శ్రీమద్రామాయణే వాల్మీకీయ ఆదికావ్యే సున్దరకాణ్డే చతుశ్చత్వారింశస్సర్గః৷৷
Thus ends the fortyfourth sarga of Sundarakanda of the holy Ramayana, the first epic composed by sage Valmiki.
