[Hanuman kills the seven sons of Ravana's chief minister]

ததஸ்தே ராக்ஷஸேந்த்ரேண சோதிதா மந்த்ரிணஸ்ஸுதாஃ.

நிர்யயுர்பவநாத்தஸ்மாத்ஸப்தஸப்தார்சிவர்சஸஃ৷৷5.45.1৷৷

மஹாபலபரீவாரா தநுஷ்மந்தோ மஹாபலாஃ.

கரிதாஸ்த்ராஸ்த்ரவிதாஂ ஷ்ரேஷ்டாஃ பரஸ்பரஜயைஷிணஃ৷৷5.45.2৷৷

ஹேமஜாலபரிக்ஷிப்தைர்த்வஜவத்பிஃ பதாகிபிஃ.

தோயதஸ்வநநிர்கோஷைர்வாஜியுக்தைர்மஹாரதைஃ৷৷5.45.3৷৷

தப்தகாஞ்சநசித்ராணி சாபாந்யமிதவிக்ரமாஃ.

விஸ்பாரயந்தஸ்ஸஂஹரிஷ்டாஸ்தடித்வந்த இவாம்புதாஃ৷৷5.45.4৷৷

ததஃ then, ஸப்தார்சிவர்சஸஃ energetic like fire, மஹாபலபரீவாராஃ endowed with great army, தநுஷ்மந்தஃ experts in archery, மஹாபலாஃ mighty, கரிதாஸ்த்ராஃ அஸ்த்ரவிதாம் distinguished wielders of weapons, ஷ்ரேஷ்டாஃ foremost, பரஸ்பரஜயைஷிணஃ wished to conquer each other, அமிதவிக்ரமாஃ very valiant, ஸப்த seven, தே they, மந்த்ரிணஃ ministers, ஸுதாஃ sons, ராக்ஷஸேந்த்ரேண by the lord of ogres, சோதிதாஃ directed, ஸஂஹரிஷ்டாஃ gladly, தப்தகாஞ்சநசித்ராணி decked with shining gold, சாபாநி bows, விஷ்பாரயந்தஃ by sporting, தடித்வந்தஃ shining with lightning, அம்புதாஃ இவ like storm clouds, ஹேமஜலபரிக்ஷிப்தைஃ decked with golden mesh, த்வஜவத்பிஃ bearing staffs, பதாகிபிஃ with flags,தோயதஸ்வநநிர்கோஷைஃ making sounds like stormy clouds, வாஜியுக்தை: yoked to horses,மஹாரதைஃ with great chariots, தஸ்மாத் from that, பவநாத் from the palace, நிர்யயுஃ departed.

Commanded by Ravana, the seven sons of minister blazing like fire followed by large army of experts in archery, possessing great valour, armed with weapons, being distinguished wielders of weapons, skilled in the use of weapons, who were equally capable of conquering each other sallied forth gladly to fight with Hanuman. They drove chariots yoked with horses which were decked with golden mesh, holding totem staffs (a figure engraved to identify a hero) and flags, neighing like clouds. The valiant
heroes were sporting and making sounds like stormy clouds wielding wonderful bows glittering like molten gold, shining like lightning. As they marched from the palace they looked like stormy clouds accompanied by lightning.

ஜநந்யஸ்து ததஸ்தேஷாஂ விதித்வா கிங்கராந்ஹதாந்.

பபூவுஷ்ஷோகஸம்ப்ராந்தாஸ்ஸபாந்தவஸுஹரிஜ்ஜநாஃ৷৷5.45.5৷৷

ததஃ then, தேஷாம் their, ஸபாந்தவஸுஹரிஜ்ஜநாஃ with friends and relatives, ஜநந்யஸ்து mothers, கிஂகராந் kinkaras, ஹதாந் killed, விதித்வா having known, கஸம்ப்ராந்தாஃ were agitated with grief, பபூவுஃ became.

Their mothers and relatives and their friends were struck with grief when they learnt about the kinkaras killed.

தே பரஸ்பரஸங்கர்ஷாத்தப்தகாஞ்சநபூஷணாஃ.

அபிபேதுர்ஹநூமந்தஂ தோரணஸ்தமவஸ்திதம்৷৷5.45.6৷৷

தப்தகாஞ்சநபூஷணாஃ barnished ornaments of gold, தே they, பரஸ்பரஸங்கர்ஷாத் by dashing against each other, தோரணஸ்தம் at the main archway, அவஸ்திதம் stood, ஹநூமந்தம் Hanuman, அபிபேதுஃ attacked.

The barnished golden ornaments worn by them were shining as they brushed shoulders with one another (eager to fight first) to attack Hanuman who stood waiting at the main archway.

ஸரிஜந்தோ பாணவரிஷ்டிஂ தே ரதகர்ஜிதநிஸ்ஸ்வநாஃ.

வரிஷ்டிமந்த இவாஂபோதா விசேருர்நைறதாம்புதாஃ৷৷5.45.7৷৷

ரதகர்ஜிதநிஸ்வநாஃ the rattling of the chariots mixed with the roaring of the warriors, தே they, நைறதாம்புதாஃ the clouds of demons, பாணவரிஷ்டிம் torrent of arrows, ஸரிஜந்தஃ sent forth, வரிஷ்டிமந்தஃ thundering, அம்போதாஃ இவ like the storm clouds, விசேருஃ went about.

They went roaring with their chariots rattling, sending forth torrents of arrows like the stormy clouds thundering.

அவகீர்ணஸ்ததஸ்தாபிர்ஹநுமாந்ஷரவரிஷ்டிபிஃ.

அபவத்ஸஂவரிதாகாரஷ்ஷைலராடிவ வரிஷ்டிபிஃ৷৷5.45.8৷৷

ததஃ then, தாபிஃ by them, ஷரவரிஷ்டிபிஃ by the shower of arrows, அவகீர்ணஃ scattered all over, ஹநுமாந் Hanuman, வரிஷ்டிபிஃ with shower of rain, ஸஂவரிதாகாரஃ covered, ஷைலராடிவ like the king of mountains, அபவத் appeared.

Later, Hanuman covered with showers of arrows scattered all over appeared like the king of mountains shot with showers of rain.

ஸ ஷராந்மோகயாமாஸ தேஷாமாஷுசரஃ கபிஃ.

ரதவேகஂ ச வீராணாஂ விசரந்விமலேம்பரே৷৷5.45.9৷৷

ஆஷுசரஃ moving fast, ஸஃ கபிஃ that monkey, விமலே in the clear, அம்பரே sky, விசரந் moving, தேஷாஂ வீராணாம் of the heroes, ஷராந் by the arrows, ரதவேகஂ ச and the speed of their chariot, மோகயாமாஸ rendered futile.

Then the monkey moving fast in the clear sky rendered the arrows of the giant heroes and speeding chariots futile.

ஸ தைஃ க்ரீடந்தநுஷ்மத்பிர்வ்யோம்நி வீரஃ ப்ரகாஷதே.

தநுஷ்மத்பிர்யதா மேகைர்மாருதஃ ப்ரபுரம்பரே৷৷5.45.10৷৷

வ்யோம்நி in the sky, தநுஷ்மத்பிஃ with those bows in their hands, தைஃ by them, க்ரீடந் while sporting, ஸஃ வீரஃ that hero, அம்பரே in the sky, தநுஷ்மத்பிஃ armed with rainbow, மேகைஃ by the clouds, ப்ரபுஃ god, மாருதஃ யதா like the wind, ப்ரகாஷதே shining.

Sporting in the sky with the giants who held bows in their hands, Hanuman shone like the powerful Wind-god sporting in the sky surrrounded by rambling dark clouds.

ஸ கரித்வா நிநதஂ கோரஂ த்ராஸயஂஸ்தாஂ மஹாசமூம்.

சகார ஹநுமாந்வேகஂ தேஷு ரக்ஷஸ்ஸு வீர்யவாந்৷৷5.45.11৷৷

வீர்யவாந் valiant one, ஸஃ he, கோரம் terrific, நிநதம் sound, கரித்வா making, தாம் that, மஹாசமூம் great army, த்ராஸயந் frightening, தேஷு ரக்ஷஸ்ஸு those ogres, வேகம் speed, சகார created.

Valiant Hanuman making terrific sound and frightening the army of ogres marched swiftly.

தலேநாப்யஹநத்காஂஷ்சித்பாதைஃ காஂஷ்சித்பரந்தபஃ.

முஷ்டிநாப்யஹநத்காஂஷ்சிந்நகைஃ காஂஷ்சித்வ்யதாரயத்৷৷5.45.12৷৷

பரந்தபஃ scorcher of enemies, காஂஷ்சித் some, தலேந with palm, அப்யஹநத் hit, காஂஷ்சித் some, பாதைஃ with feet, காஂஷ்சித் some, முஷ்டிநா with fist, அப்யஹநத் struck, காஂஷ்சித் some, நகைஃ with nails, வ்யதாரயத் pierced .

The scorcher of enemies, Hanuman hit some ogres with his palm, some with his feet and some with his fist and pierced some with his nails.

ப்ரமமாதோரஸா காஂஷ்சிதூருப்யாமபராந்கபிஃ.

கேசித்தஸ்ய நிநாதேந தத்ரைவ பதிதா புவி৷৷5.45.13৷৷

கபிஃ monkey, காஂஷ்சித் some, உரஸா with his chest, அபராந் and others, ஊருப்யாம் with his thighs, ப்ரமமாத strangled, கேசித் a few, தஸ்ய his, நிநாதேந by the roar, தத்ரைவ there itself, புவி on the ground, பதிதாஃ fell down.

The monkey strangled some with his chest and some between his thighs. A few fell down dead on the ground hearing his roaring noise.

ததஸ்தேஷ்வவஸந்நேஷு பூமௌ நிபதிதேஷு ச.

தத்ஸைந்யமகமத்ஸர்வஂ திஷோதஷ பயார்திதம்৷৷5.45.14৷৷

தேஷு when they (sons of minister), அவஸந்நேஷு were annexed, பூமௌ on the ground, நிபதிதேஷு ச when fallen dead on the ground, ததஃ then, ஸர்வம் all, தத் that, ஸைந்யம் army, பயார்திதம் struck with fear, தஷ திஷஃ in all ten directions, அகமத் fled.

Struck by fear on seeing Hanuman, the seven sons of ministers dropped down dead on the ground, and their army fled in all the ten directions.

விநேதுர்விஸ்வரஂ நாகா நிபேதுர்புவி வாஜிநஃ.

பக்நநீடத்வஜச்சத்ரைர்பூஷ்ச கீர்ணாபவத்ரதைஃ৷৷5.45.15৷৷

நாகாஃ elephants, விஸ்வரம் discordantly, விநேதுஃ trumpeted in fear, வாஜிநஃ horses, புவி on ground, நிபேதுஃ fell down, பூஷ்ச the earth also, பக்நநீடத்வஜச்சத்ரைஃ with broken seats, parasols, flag staffs, ரதைஃ by chariots, கீர்ணா அபவத் strewn all over.

The elephants trumpeted discordantly out of fear, the horses fell down on the ground and even the chariots with seats, parasols and flag staffs broken were strewn all over the ground.

ஸ்ரவதா ருதிரேணாத ஸ்ரவந்த்யோ தர்ஷிதாஃ பதி.

விவிதைஷ்ச ஸ்வரைர்லங்கா நநாத விகரிதஂ ததா৷৷5.45.16৷৷

அத then, ஸ்ரவதா flowing, ருதிரேண by blood, பதி way, ஸ்ரவந்த்யஃ flowed, தர்ஷிதாஃ seen, ததா then, லங்கா Lanka, விவிதைஃ with many, ஸ்வரைஃ with sounds, விகரிதம் horrifying cries, நநாத roared.

Streams of blood flowed and Lanka was filled with many kinds of horrifying sounds of cries.

ஸ தாந்ப்ரவரித்தாந்விநிஹத்ய ராக்ஷஸாந் மஹாபலஷ்சண்டபராக்ரமஃ கபிஃ.

யுயுத்ஸுரந்யைஃ புநரேவ ராக்ஷஸை ஸ்தமேவ வீரோபிஜகாம தோரணம்৷৷5.45.17৷৷

வீரஃ hero, மஹாபலஃ mighty one, சண்டபராக்ரமஃ whose valiance was fierce, ஸஃ கபிஃ that Hanuman, ப்ரவரித்தாந் the ogres who were old and grew stronger, தாந் ராக்ஷஸாந் those gaints, விநிஹரித்ய slayed, அந்யைஃ others, ராக்ஷஸைஃ by ogres, யுயுத்ஸுஃ desiring to wage war, புநரேவ once again, தம் that, தோரணமேவ archway, அபிஜகாம went forth.

Having killed the ogres who were old and strong, the valiant and mighty Hanuman, wishing to slay the other ogres advanced towards the archway.
