[Hanuman kills the seven sons of Ravana's chief minister]

తతస్తే రాక్షసేన్ద్రేణ చోదితా మన్త్రిణస్సుతాః.

నిర్యయుర్భవనాత్తస్మాత్సప్తసప్తార్చివర్చసః৷৷5.45.1৷৷

మహాబలపరీవారా ధనుష్మన్తో మహాబలాః.

కృతాస్త్రాస్త్రవిదాం శ్రేష్ఠాః పరస్పరజయైషిణః৷৷5.45.2৷৷

హేమజాలపరిక్షిప్తైర్ధ్వజవద్భిః పతాకిభిః.

తోయదస్వననిర్ఘోషైర్వాజియుక్తైర్మహారథైః৷৷5.45.3৷৷

తప్తకాఞ్చనచిత్రాణి చాపాన్యమితవిక్రమాః.

విస్ఫారయన్తస్సంహృష్టాస్తటిత్వన్త ఇవామ్బుదాః৷৷5.45.4৷৷


తతః then, సప్తార్చివర్చసః energetic like fire, మహాబలపరీవారాః endowed with great army, ధనుష్మన్తః experts in archery, మహాబలాః mighty, కృతాస్త్రాః అస్త్రవిదామ్ distinguished wielders of weapons, శ్రేష్ఠాః foremost, పరస్పరజయైషిణః wished to conquer each other, అమితవిక్రమాః very valiant, సప్త seven, తే they, మన్త్రిణః ministers, సుతాః sons, రాక్షసేన్ద్రేణ by the lord of ogres, చోదితాః directed, సంహృష్టాః gladly, తప్తకాఞ్చనచిత్రాణి decked with shining gold, చాపాని bows, విష్ఫారయన్తః by sporting, తటిత్వన్తః shining with lightning, అమ్బుదాః ఇవ like storm clouds, హేమజలపరిక్షిప్తైః decked with golden mesh, ధ్వజవద్భిః bearing staffs, పతాకిభిః with flags,తోయదస్వననిర్ఘోషైః making sounds like stormy clouds, వాజియుక్తై: yoked to horses,మహారథైః with great chariots, తస్మాత్ from that, భవనాత్ from the palace, నిర్యయుః departed.

Commanded by Ravana, the seven sons of minister blazing like fire followed by large army of experts in archery, possessing great valour, armed with weapons, being distinguished wielders of weapons, skilled in the use of weapons, who were equally capable of conquering each other sallied forth gladly to fight with Hanuman. They drove chariots yoked with horses which were decked with golden mesh, holding totem staffs (a figure engraved to identify a hero) and flags, neighing like clouds. The valiant
heroes were sporting and making sounds like stormy clouds wielding wonderful bows glittering like molten gold, shining like lightning. As they marched from the palace they looked like stormy clouds accompanied by lightning.
జనన్యస్తు తతస్తేషాం విదిత్వా కిఙ్కరాన్హతాన్.

బభూవుశ్శోకసమ్భ్రాన్తాస్సబాన్ధవసుహృజ్జనాః৷৷5.45.5৷৷


తతః then, తేషామ్ their, సబాన్ధవసుహృజ్జనాః with friends and relatives, జనన్యస్తు mothers, కింకరాన్ kinkaras, హతాన్ killed, విదిత్వా having known, కసమ్భ్రాన్తాః were agitated with grief, బభూవుః became.

Their mothers and relatives and their friends were struck with grief when they learnt about the kinkaras killed.
తే పరస్పరసఙ్ఘర్షాత్తప్తకాఞ్చనభూషణాః.

అభిపేతుర్హనూమన్తం తోరణస్థమవస్థితమ్৷৷5.45.6৷৷


తప్తకాఞ్చనభూషణాః barnished ornaments of gold, తే they, పరస్పరసఙ్ఘర్షాత్ by dashing against each other, తోరణస్థమ్ at the main archway, అవస్థితమ్ stood, హనూమన్తమ్ Hanuman, అభిపేతుః attacked.

The barnished golden ornaments worn by them were shining as they brushed shoulders with one another (eager to fight first) to attack Hanuman who stood waiting at the main archway.
సృజన్తో బాణవృష్టిం తే రథగర్జితనిస్స్వనాః.

వృష్టిమన్త ఇవాంభోదా విచేరుర్నైఋతామ్బుదాః৷৷5.45.7৷৷


రథగర్జితనిస్వనాః the rattling of the chariots mixed with the roaring of the warriors, తే they, నైఋతామ్బుదాః the clouds of demons, బాణవృష్టిమ్ torrent of arrows, సృజన్తః sent forth, వృష్టిమన్తః thundering, అమ్భోదాః ఇవ like the storm clouds, విచేరుః went about.

They went roaring with their chariots rattling, sending forth torrents of arrows like the stormy clouds thundering.
అవకీర్ణస్తతస్తాభిర్హనుమాన్శరవృష్టిభిః.

అభవత్సంవృతాకారశ్శైలరాడివ వృష్టిభిః৷৷5.45.8৷৷


తతః then, తాభిః by them, శరవృష్టిభిః by the shower of arrows, అవకీర్ణః scattered all over, హనుమాన్ Hanuman, వృష్టిభిః with shower of rain, సంవృతాకారః covered, శైలరాడివ like the king of mountains, అభవత్ appeared.

Later, Hanuman covered with showers of arrows scattered all over appeared like the king of mountains shot with showers of rain.
స శరాన్మోఘయామాస తేషామాశుచరః కపిః.

రథవేగం చ వీరాణాం విచరన్విమలేమ్బరే৷৷5.45.9৷৷


ఆశుచరః moving fast, సః కపిః that monkey, విమలే in the clear, అమ్బరే sky, విచరన్ moving, తేషాం వీరాణామ్ of the heroes, శరాన్ by the arrows, రథవేగం చ and the speed of their chariot, మోఘయామాస rendered futile.

Then the monkey moving fast in the clear sky rendered the arrows of the giant heroes and speeding chariots futile.
స తైః క్రీడన్ధనుష్మద్భిర్వ్యోమ్ని వీరః ప్రకాశతే.

ధనుష్మద్భిర్యథా మేఘైర్మారుతః ప్రభురమ్బరే৷৷5.45.10৷৷


వ్యోమ్ని in the sky, ధనుష్మద్భిః with those bows in their hands, తైః by them, క్రీడన్ while sporting, సః వీరః that hero, అమ్బరే in the sky, ధనుష్మద్భిః armed with rainbow, మేఘైః by the clouds, ప్రభుః god, మారుతః యథా like the wind, ప్రకాశతే shining.

Sporting in the sky with the giants who held bows in their hands, Hanuman shone like the powerful Wind-god sporting in the sky surrrounded by rambling dark clouds.
స కృత్వా నినదం ఘోరం త్రాసయంస్తాం మహాచమూమ్.

చకార హనుమాన్వేగం తేషు రక్షస్సు వీర్యవాన్৷৷5.45.11৷৷


వీర్యవాన్ valiant one, సః he, ఘోరమ్ terrific, నినదమ్ sound, కృత్వా making, తామ్ that, మహాచమూమ్ great army, త్రాసయన్ frightening, తేషు రక్షస్సు those ogres, వేగమ్ speed, చకార created.

Valiant Hanuman making terrific sound and frightening the army of ogres marched swiftly.
తలేనాభ్యహనత్కాంశ్చిత్పాదైః కాంశ్చిత్పరన్తపః.

ముష్టినాభ్యహనత్కాంశ్చిన్నఖైః కాంశ్చిద్వ్యదారయత్৷৷5.45.12৷৷


పరన్తపః scorcher of enemies, కాంశ్చిత్ some, తలేన with palm, అభ్యహనత్ hit, కాంశ్చిత్ some, పాదైః with feet, కాంశ్చిత్ some, ముష్టినా with fist, అభ్యహనత్ struck, కాంశ్చిత్ some, నఖైః with nails, వ్యదారయత్ pierced .

The scorcher of enemies, Hanuman hit some ogres with his palm, some with his feet and some with his fist and pierced some with his nails.
ప్రమమాథోరసా కాంశ్చిదూరుభ్యామపరాన్కపిః.

కేచిత్తస్య నినాదేన తత్రైవ పతితా భువి৷৷5.45.13৷৷


కపిః monkey, కాంశ్చిత్ some, ఉరసా with his chest, అపరాన్ and others, ఊరుభ్యామ్ with his thighs, ప్రమమాథ strangled, కేచిత్ a few, తస్య his, నినాదేన by the roar, తత్రైవ there itself, భువి on the ground, పతితాః fell down.

The monkey strangled some with his chest and some between his thighs. A few fell down dead on the ground hearing his roaring noise.
తతస్తేష్వవసన్నేషు భూమౌ నిపతితేషు చ.

తత్సైన్యమగమత్సర్వం దిశోదశ భయార్దితమ్৷৷5.45.14৷৷


తేషు when they (sons of minister), అవసన్నేషు were annexed, భూమౌ on the ground, నిపతితేషు చ when fallen dead on the ground, తతః then, సర్వమ్ all, తత్ that, సైన్యమ్ army, భయార్దితమ్ struck with fear, దశ దిశః in all ten directions, అగమత్ fled.

Struck by fear on seeing Hanuman, the seven sons of ministers dropped down dead on the ground, and their army fled in all the ten directions.
వినేదుర్విస్వరం నాగా నిపేతుర్భువి వాజినః.

భగ్ననీడధ్వజచ్ఛత్రైర్భూశ్చ కీర్ణాభవద్రథైః৷৷5.45.15৷৷


నాగాః elephants, విస్వరమ్ discordantly, వినేదుః trumpeted in fear, వాజినః horses, భువి on ground, నిపేతుః fell down, భూశ్చ the earth also, భగ్ననీడధ్వజచ్ఛత్రైః with broken seats, parasols, flag staffs, రథైః by chariots, కీర్ణా అభవత్ strewn all over.

The elephants trumpeted discordantly out of fear, the horses fell down on the ground and even the chariots with seats, parasols and flag staffs broken were strewn all over the ground.
స్రవతా రుధిరేణాథ స్రవన్త్యో దర్శితాః పథి.

వివిధైశ్చ స్వరైర్లఙ్కా ననాద వికృతం తదా৷৷5.45.16৷৷


అథ then, స్రవతా flowing, రుధిరేణ by blood, పథి way, స్రవన్త్యః flowed, దర్శితాః seen, తదా then, లఙ్కా Lanka, వివిధైః with many, స్వరైః with sounds, వికృతమ్ horrifying cries, ననాద roared.

Streams of blood flowed and Lanka was filled with many kinds of horrifying sounds of cries.
స తాన్ప్రవృద్ధాన్వినిహత్య రాక్షసాన్ మహాబలశ్చణ్డపరాక్రమః కపిః.

యుయుత్సురన్యైః పునరేవ రాక్షసై స్తమేవ వీరోభిజగామ తోరణమ్৷৷5.45.17৷৷


వీరః hero, మహాబలః mighty one, చణ్డపరాక్రమః whose valiance was fierce, సః కపిః that Hanuman, ప్రవృద్ధాన్ the ogres who were old and grew stronger, తాన్ రాక్షసాన్ those gaints, వినిహృత్య slayed, అన్యైః others, రాక్షసైః by ogres, యుయుత్సుః desiring to wage war, పునరేవ once again, తమ్ that, తోరణమేవ archway, అభిజగామ went forth.

Having killed the ogres who were old and strong, the valiant and mighty Hanuman, wishing to slay the other ogres advanced towards the archway.
ఇత్యార్షే శ్రీమద్రామాయణే వాల్మీకీయ ఆదికావ్యే సున్దరకాణ్డే పఞ్చచత్వారింశస్సర్గః৷৷
Thus ends the fortyfifth sarga of Sundarakanda of the holy Ramayana, the first epic composed by sage Valmiki.
