ராவணஃ Ravana, மஹாத்மநா the great, வாநரேண by the vanara, மந்த்ரிஸுதாந் sons of the ministers, ஹதாந் killed, புத்த்வா knowing, ஸஂவரிதாகாரஃ who had concealed his agony, உத்தமாம் good, மதிம் thought, சகார formulated.
Coming to know that the seven sons of the ministers were slain by the great vanara, Ravana, who had concealed his feelings of agony thought of a good plan.

ஸஃ தஷக்ரீவஃ the ten-headed Ravana, வீராந் warriors, நயவிஷாரதாந் skilled in statecraft, ஹநுமத்க்ரஹணவ்யக்ராந் eager to capture Hanuman, யுதி in battle, வாயுவேகஸமாந் equal to wind in speed, விரூபாக்ஷயூபாக்ஷௌ Virupaksha and Yupaksha, துர்தரம் Durdhara, ராக்ஷஸஂ சைவ also a giant, ப்ரகஸம் Praghasa, பாஸகர்ணஂ ச Bhaskarna and, ஸேநாக்ரநாயகாந் army Generals பஞ்ச five,ஸந்திதேஷ commanded.
The ten-headed Ravana, eager to capture Hanuman, commanded his five army Generals called Virupaksha, Yupaksha, Durdhara, Praghasa and Bhaskarna, who were great warrior-statesmen valiant and, equal to wind in speed.

ஸேநாக்ரகாஃ O Army generals, ஸர்வே all, மஹாபலபரிக்ரஹாஃ accompanied by large, strong army, ஸவாஜிரதமாதங்காஃ along with horses, chariots and elphants, யாத march, ஸஃ கபிஃ that vanara, ஷாஸ்யதாம் punish, இதி thus.
"O Army generals! march with a large, strong army with horses, chariots and elephants and punish the vanara.
யத்நைஷ்ச கலு பாவ்யஂ ஸ்யாத்தமாஸாத்ய வநாலயம்.
கர்ம சாபி ஸமாதேயஂ தேஷகாலாவிரோதிநம்৷৷5.46.5৷৷

"Go to that forest-dweller and make all efforts to impose on him punishment appropriate to time and place (keeping in view the harm he has done).

"To me it appears he is created by Indra with his ascetic power (for punishing us). I have subdued nagas, yakshas, gandharvas and even gods, asuras and ascetics with your help. So you should certainly bring him here without doing any harm. Capture the monkey forcibly. Do not insult that mighty monkey.

ந மதிர்ந பலோத்ஸாஹௌ ந ரூபபரிகல்பநம்.

"Earlier I have seen monkeys of immense prowess, like Vali and Sugriva as well as Jambavan, the bear. Also I have seen the army general, Nila, Dvivida and others. They do not have such tremendous splendour or movement valour, intellect and strength and energy. They did not have such ability to change form at their will.
மஹத்ஸத்த்வமிதஂ ஜ்ஞேயஂ கபிரூபஂ வ்யவஸ்திதம்৷৷5.46.12৷৷
ப்ரயத்நஂ மஹதாஸ்தாய க்ரியதாமஸ்ய நிக்ரஹஃ.

இதம் this, கபிரூபம் a monkey form, வ்யவஸ்திதம் concluded, மஹத் great, ஸத்த்வம் being, ஜ்ஞேயம் It should be understood, மஹத் extraordinary, ப்ரயத்நம் effort, ஆஸ்தாய by putting up, அஸ்ய his, நிக்ரஹஃ capture, க்ரியதாம் do.
"It should be understood that he has taken the form of a monkey. You have to put in extraordinary effort to capture him by acting in a suitable manner.
காமஂ லோகாஸ்த்ரயஸ்ஸேந்த்ராஸ்ஸஸுராஸுரமாநவாஃ৷৷5.46.13৷৷

ஸேந்த்ராஃ including Indra, ஸஸுராஸுரமாநவாஃ suras, asuras and humans together, த்ரயஃ all the three, லோகாஃ worlds, ரணாஜிரே in the battlefield, பவதாம் your, அக்ரதஃ in front, ஸ்தாதும் to stand, ந பர்யாப்தாஃ not competent, காமம் indeed.
"Even Indra, suras, asuras and humans and the three worlds together are incompetent to stand before you in a battlefield.
ததாபி து நயஜ்ஞேந ஜயமாகாங்க்ஷதா ரணே৷৷5.46.14৷৷
ஆத்மா ரக்ஷ்யஃ ப்ரயத்நேந யுத்தஸித்திர்ஹி சஞ்சலா.
ஆத்மா ரக்ஷ்யஃ ப்ரயத்நேந யுத்தஸித்திர்ஹி சஞ்சலா.
ததாபி து even then, ரணே in a war, ஜயம் victory, ஆகாங்க்ஷதா while desiring, நயஜ்ஞேந by
carefully adopting war strategies in an intelligent manner, ப்ரயத்நேந making effort, ஆத்மா your own self, ரக்ஷ்யஃ should be protected, யுத்தஸித்திஃ victory in war, சஞ்சலா ஹி is uncertain.
"Even then, you should safeguard yourself with great effort adopting war-strategies in an intelligent manner to be victorious, for success in war is uncertain.
தே ஸ்வாமிவசநஂ ஸர்வே ப்ரதிகரிஹ்ய மஹௌஜஸஃ৷৷5.46.15৷৷

மஹௌஜஸஃ very strong, ஹுதாஷஸமதேஜஸஃ resplendant as sacrificial fire, தே ஸர்வே all of them, ஸ்வாமிவசநம் king's words, ப்ரதிகரிஹ்ய accepting, மஹாவேகாஃ who were swift, ரதைஃ with chariots, மத்தை intoxicated, மாதங்கை: with elephants, மஹாஜவைஃ of great speed, வாஜிபிஷ்ச with horses, தீக்ஷ்ணைஃ sharp, விவிதைஃ many kinds, ஷஸ்த்ரை: with weapons, ஸர்வே all, பலைஃ strong army, உபசிதாஃ collecting,ஸமுத்பேதுஃ sallied forth together
Taking King's order, the strong and swift warriors, resplendent as the flame of sacrificial fire sallied forth with their army on chariots, on the back of rutting elephants, some on swift horses equipped with sharp weapons of many kinds.

ததஃ then, வீராஃ heroes, ஸ்வதேஜோரஷ்மிமாலிநம் shining like the Sun-god with his own effulgence, உத்யந்தம் a rising one, ரஷ்மிமந்தமிவ like the Sun, தீப்யமாநம் shining, தோரணஸ்தம் standing at the archway, மஹோத்ஸாஹம் extraordinary agility, மஹாஸத்த்வம் intelligent,மஹாபலம் endowed with tremendous strength, தஂ மஹாகபிம் him the vanara, ததரிஷுஃ saw.
The heroic giants caught sight of the vanara, who was blazing encircled as though he
was by the rays of his own glory, looking like the rising Sun. He was endowed with extraordinary agility, intelligence, and tremendous strength standing, waiting at the archway.
மஹாமதிஂ மஹாவேகஂ மஹாகாயஂ மஹாபலம்.
தஂ ஸமீக்ஷ்யைவ தே ஸர்வே திக்ஷு ஸர்வாஸ்வவஸ்திதாஃ৷৷5.46.19৷৷
தை ஸ்தை: ப்ரஹரணைர்பீமைரபிபேதுஸ்ததஸ்ததஃ.
தஂ ஸமீக்ஷ்யைவ தே ஸர்வே திக்ஷு ஸர்வாஸ்வவஸ்திதாஃ৷৷5.46.19৷৷
தை ஸ்தை: ப்ரஹரணைர்பீமைரபிபேதுஸ்ததஸ்ததஃ.
ஸர்வே all, மஹாமதிம் highly intelligent, மஹாவேகம் very swift, மஹாகாயம் having a huge body, மஹாபலம் tremendous strength, தம் him, ஸமீக்ஷ்யைவ having observed, ஸர்வாஸு in all, திக்ஷு directions, அவஸ்திதாஃ positioned, ததஸ்ததஃ here and there, பீமைஃ with dreadful, ஸ்தைஸ்தை: with different, ப்ரஹரணைஃ with weapons, அபிபேதுஃ attacked.
Having observed the tremendous strength, intelligence and swiftness in action of Hanuman, the generals of the army positioned at all directions and assailed him with dreadful weapons.
தஸ்ய பஞ்சாயஸாஸ்தீக்ஷ்ணாஷ்ஷிதாஃ பீதமுகாஷ்ஷராஃ৷৷5.46.20৷৷

தீக்ஷ்ணாஃ sharp, ஷிதாஃ sharp, பீதமுகாஃ steel shafts with polished yellow tips (of gold), உத்பலபத்ராபாஃ shining like petals of lilies, ஆயஸாஃ steel shafts made of iron, பஞ்ச five, ஷராஃ arrows, துர்தரேண by Durdhara, தஸ்ய his, ஷிரஸி on his head, நிபாதிதாஃ pierced.
Durdhara pierced into the head of Hanuman with five sharp arrows and polished steel shafts with yellow tips (gold) shining like red lotus petals. They were like petals of lilies thrown on the head of Hanuman (causing no pain).
ஸ தைஃ பஞ்சபிராவித்தஷ்ஷரைஷ்ஷிரஸி வாநரஃ৷৷5.46.21৷৷
உத்பபாத நதந் வ்யோம்நி திஷோ தஷ விநாதயந்.
உத்பபாத நதந் வ்யோம்நி திஷோ தஷ விநாதயந்.
வாநரஃ vanara, தைஃ them, பஞ்சபிஃ by those five, ஷரைஃ with arrows, ஷிரஸி on the head, அவித்தஃ pierced in, நதந் roared, தஷதிஷஃ the ten directions, விநாதயந் making a loud noise, வ்யோம்நி in the sky, உத்பபாத leaped.
With five arrows pierced in the head of the vanara, Hanuman leaped into the sky with terrible roar, which resounded in all the ten directions.
ததஸ்து துர்தரோ வீரஸ்ஸரதஸ்ஸஜ்யகார்முகஃ৷৷5.46.22৷৷
கிரந் ஷரஷதைஸ்தீக்ஷ்ணைரபிபேதே மஹாபலஃ.
கிரந் ஷரஷதைஸ்தீக்ஷ்ணைரபிபேதே மஹாபலஃ.
ததஃ thereafter, மஹாபலஃ powerful, வீரஃ hero, துர்தரஃ Durdhara, ஸரதஃ with his the chariot, ஸஜ்யகார்முகஃ with his string fastened, தீக்ஷ்ணைஃ sharp, ஷரஷதைஃ hundreds of arrows, கிரந் while hitting, அபிபேதே attacked.
Then the powerful, hero, Durdhara, mounted on his chariot, fastened his bow-string and hit Hanuman with hundreds of sharp arrows.
ஸ கபிர்வாரயாமாஸ தஂ வ்யோம்நி ஷரவர்ஷிணம்৷৷5.46.23৷৷
வரிஷ்டிமந்தஂ பயோதாந்தே பயோதமிவ மாருதஃ.

ஸஃ கபிஃ that vanara, வ்யோம்நி in the sky, ஷரவர்ஷிணம் showering of arrows, தம் on him, பயோதாந்தே at the end of the rainy season, வரிஷ்டிமந்தம் showering rain drops, பயோதம் a cloud, மாருதஃ இவ like the wind, வாரயாமாஸ prevented.
The great monkey kept away the showering arrows like the wind prevents rain-cloud from showering rain drops at the end of monsoon.
அர்த்யமாநஸ்ததஸ்தேந துர்தரேணாநிலாத்மஜஃ৷৷5.46.24৷৷
சகார கதநஂ பூயோ வ்யவர்தத ச வேகவாந்.
சகார கதநஂ பூயோ வ்யவர்தத ச வேகவாந்.
தேந by him, துர்தரேண by Durdhara, அர்த்யமாநஃ attacked, அநிலாத்மஜஃ son of the Wind-god, ததஃ then, கதநம் battle, சகார fought, வேகவாந் swift hero, பூயஃ again, வ்யவர்தத grew in size.
When the son of the Wind-god was attacked by Durdhara, he again grew in size
ஸ தூரஂ ஸஹஸோத்பத்ய துர்தரஸ்ய ரதே ஹரிஃ৷৷5.46.25৷৷
நிபபாத மஹாவேகோ வித்யுத்ராஷிர்கிராவிவ.

ஸஃ ஹரிஃ that vanara, தூரஂ far off, ஸஹஸா at once, உத்பத்ய leaped, மஹாவேகஃ in high speed, கிரௌ on the mountain, வித்யுத்ராஷிரிவ like flashes of lightning, துர்தரஸ்ய Durdhara's, ரதே on the chariot, நிபபாத fell on.
Hanuman suddenly leaped far off into the air at high speed and fell on Durdhara's chariot just like a thunderous lightning falls on a mountain.
ததஸ்ஸ மதிதாஷ்டாஷ்வஂ ரதஂ பக்நாக்ஷகூபரம்৷৷5.46.26৷৷
விஹாய ந்யபதத்பூமௌ துர்தரஸ்த்யக்தஜீவிதஃ.

ததஃ then, ஸஃ he, மதிதாஷ்டாஷ்வம் eight horses killed, பக்நாக்ஷகூபரம் with its axle and wooden frame (to which the yoke is fixed) broken, ரதம் chariot, விஹாய left, த்யக்தஜீவிதஃ devoid of life, பூமௌ on the ground, ந்யபதத் fell.
Having lost his chariot, the horses yoked to it killed, its axle and pole broken to pieces, Durdhara fell down dead from the chariot.
தஂ விரூபாக்ஷயூபாக்ஷௌ தரிஷ்ட்வா நிபதிதஂ புவி৷৷5.46.27৷৷
ஸஞ்ஜாதரோஷௌ துர்தர்ஷாவுத்பேதுரரிந்தமௌ.

துர்தர்ஷௌ unassailable warriors, அரிந்தமௌ crushers of enemies, விரூபாக்ஷயூபாக்ஷௌ Virupaksha and Yupaksha, புவி on the ground, நிபதிதம் fallen, தம் him, தரிஷ்ட்வா seeing, ஸஞ்ஜாதரோஷௌ enraged, உத்பேதுஃ leaped at him.
Seeing the body of Durdhara fallen on the ground, enraged Virupaksha and Yupaksha, the unassailable crushers of enemies leaped towards him.

விமலே in a clear white, அம்பரே in the sky, விஷ்டிதஃ stood, மஹாபாஹுஃ great-armed one, ஸஃ கபிஃ that vanara, தாப்யாம் by both of them, ஸஹஸா all of a sudden, உத்பத்ய having leapt, முத்கராப்யாம் with two iron hammers, வக்ஷஸி on the chest, அபிஹதஃ hit.
As the strong-armed vanara stood stationed in the clear white sky both the generals leaped into the sky and hit him all of a sudden with two iron hammers.

மஹாபலஃ powerful, ஸுபர்ணஸமவிக்ரமஃ equal to Suparna (Garuda) in valour, வேகவதோஃ of those two who were swift in action, தயோஃ of both of them, வேகம் speed, விநிஹத்ய resisting, புநஃ again, பூமௌ on the ground, நிபபாத fell.
Powerful Hanuman, an equal to Garuda in valour fell down while resisting the swift generals.

தாவுபௌ ராக்ஷஸௌ வீரௌ ஜகாந பவநாத்மஜஃ.

வாநரஃ vanara, ஸஃ பவநாத்மஜஃ that son of the Wind-god, ஸாலவரிக்ஷம் sala tree, ஆஸாத்ய seized, தம் that, உத்பாட்ய ச and uprooted, தௌ உபௌ both of them, வீரௌ generals, ராக்ஷஸௌ two giants,ஜகாந slew.
Then the son of the Wind-god seized a sala tree uprooted it, lifted it and smashed the two giant generals with it.

ததஃ then, தரஸ்விநா by the swift, வாநரேண by the vanara, தாந் த்ரீந் those three, ஹதாந் killed, ஜ்ஞாத்வா after knowing, ப்ரகஸஃ Praghasa, மஹாவேகஃ endowed with swift action, ப்ரஸஹ்ய violently, அபிபேதே attacked, வீர்யவாந் courageous, பாஸகர்ணஷ்ச with Bhasakarna, ஸங்கரித்தஃ angry one, ஷூலம் trident, ஆதாய by lifting.
Finding all the three generals dead, swift Praghasa advanced towards the Vanara and attacked him. Valiant Bhasakarna also lifted a trident and attacked him. Both were famous for swift and violent action in war

யஷஸ்விநம் renowned, கபிஷார்தூலம் tiger among monkeys, ஏகதஃ on one side, அவஸ்திதம் தம் stationed, ப்ரகஸஃ Praghasa, ஷிதாக்ரேண with sharp weapon, பட்டிஸேந iron crow-bar, கபிஸத்தமம் foremost of the monkeys, ப்ரத்யயோதயத் fought back, பாஸகர்ணஃ Bhaskarna, ராக்ஷஸஃ giant, ஷூலேந with spear.
Praghasa fought back the glorious tiger among vanaras with a sharp crow-bar on one side and Bhaskarana attacked with a spear from the other.

தாப்யாம் by both of them, விக்ஷதைஃ with wounded ones, காத்ரைஃ with his limbs, அஸரிக்திக்ததநூருஹஃ his fur smeared with blood, ஸஃ வாநரஃ that vanara, பாலஸூர்யஸமப்ரபஃ was shining like the rising Sun, க்ருத்தஃ angry, அபவத் became.
Attacked by both the generals, the fur on the vanara's body was smeared with blood from his wounded limbs, shining like the rising Sun smeared with blood became furious.

Hanuman, a courageous and mighty elephant among the monkeys uprooted a mountain peak along with its animals, serpents and trees and killed both the demon generals.

பலஂ ததவஷேஷஂ ச நாஷயாமாஸ வாநரஃ.

ததஃ then, தேஷு those, பஞ்சஸு all the five, ஸேநாபதிஷு army chiefs, அவஸந்நேஷு when they died, வாநரஃ vanara, தத் that, அவஷேஷம் remaining, பலம் army, நாஷயாமாஸ destroyed.
When the five army chiefs were killed, Hanuman began to destoy the remaining army force.
அஷ்வைரஷ்வாந் கஜைர்நாகாந் யோதைர்யோதாந் ரதைரதாந்৷৷5.46.37৷৷

The vanara pitted horses against horses, elephants against elephants, warriors against warriors and chariots against chariots as Indra destroyed demons.

ஹதைஃ with killed ones, நாகைஃ with elephants, துரகைஃ with horses, பக்நாக்ஷைஃ with broken axles, மஹாரதைஷ்ச by great chariots, ஹதைஃ with smashed ones, ராக்ஷஸைஃ with giants, பூமிஃ the ground, ஸமந்ததஃ all over, ருத்தமார்கா the path was obstructed
There was no path (one could not move forward) with elephants, and horses killed and with broken axles of great chariots and smashed chariots spread all over the way.

ததஃ then, வீரஃ the hero, கபிஃ monkey, வீராந் the generals, ஸபலாந் along with that army, ஸவாஹநாந் their vehicles, தாந் those, த்வஜிநீபதீந் army chiefs, ரணே in war, நிஹத்ய having killed, ஸமீக்ஷ்ய after reviewing, தோரணம் archway, பரிகரிஹ்ய after holding, ப்ரஜாக்ஷயே bent upon destruction of humanity, காலஃ இவ like time-spirit, கரிதக்ஷணஃ celebrated.
Then the heroic monkey having killed the army generals and their army and destroyed their vehicles in war came back to the archway after reviewing and stood like the time-spirit bent upon the destruction of humanity.
