[Death of Prince Aksha in the combat with Hanuman]

సేనాపతీన్పఞ్చ స తు ప్రమాపితాన్ హనూమతా సానుచరాన్సవాహనాన్.

సమీక్ష్య రాజా సమరోద్ధతోన్ముఖం కుమారమక్షం ప్రసమైక్షతాగ్రతః৷৷5.47.1৷৷


రాజా the king, సానుచరాన్ with the followers,సవాహనాన్ and their vehicles, పఞ్చ five, సేనాపతీన్ generals of the army, హనుమతా by Hanuman, ప్రమాపితాన్ killed, సమీక్ష్య seeing, సమరోద్ధతోన్ముఖమ్ inclined to fight the war, అగ్రతః in front of him, కుమారమ్ the prince, అక్షమ్ Aksha, ప్రసమైక్షత turned his attention to.

Hearing the sad news of death of the five army generals including their followers and destruction of their vehicles, King (Ravana) gave a suggestive look at prince Aksha who was inclined to fight the war.
స తస్య దృష్ట్యర్పణసమ్ప్రచోదితః ప్రతాపవాన్కాఞ్చనచిత్రకార్ముకః.

సముత్పపాతాథ సదస్యుదీరితో ద్విజాతిముఖ్యైర్హవిషేవ పావకః৷৷5.47.2৷৷


అథ and then, తస్య his, దృష్ట్యర్పణసమ్ప్రచోదితః spurred by the glance of the king, ప్రతాపవాన్ glorious, సః that, కాఞ్చనచిత్రకార్ముకః holding a marvellous bow inlaid with gold, సదసి the royal assembly, ద్విజాతిముఖ్యైః by the reputed brahmins, హవిషా with oblations, ఉదీరితః kindled, పావకః ఇవ like the fire-sanctuary, సముత్పపాత sprang up.

Spurred by the mere glance of Ravana, the glorious Aksha with his wonderful bow inlaid with gold sprang up from the royal assembly just as flame rises from fire-sanctuary when oblations are poured in by reputed brahmins.
తతో మహద్బాలదివాకరప్రభం ప్రతప్తజామ్బూనదజాలసన్తతమ్.

రథం సమాస్థాయ యయౌ స వీర్యవాన్మహాహరిం తం ప్రతి నైరృతర్షభః৷৷5.47.3৷৷


తతః then, వీర్యవాన్ courageous, సః నైరృతర్షభః that bull among giants, బాలదివాకరప్రభమ్ splendid like the rising Sun, ప్రతప్తజామ్బూనదజాలసన్తతమ్ glittering like the stretch of pure gold, మహత్ great, రథమ్ chariot, సమాస్థాయ having ascended, తమ్ him, మహాహరిం ప్రతి towards the great vanara, యయౌ marched.

Ascending a glittering chariot inlaid with pure gold Aksha, the courageous bull among giants looking splendid like the rising Sun, marched forth towards the great vanara.
తతస్తపస్సఙ్గ్రహసఞ్చయార్జితం ప్రతప్తజామ్బూనదజాలశోభితమ్.

పతాకినం రత్నవిభూషితధ్వజం మనోజవాష్టాశ్వవరైః సుయోజితమ్৷৷5.47.4৷৷


తతః then, తపః సఙ్గ్రహసఞ్చయార్జితమ్ gained by the austerities of high order, ప్రతప్తజామ్బూనదజాలశోభితమ్ overlaid with the pure gold armour, పతాకినమ్ having a flag, రత్నవిభూషితధ్వజమ్ with flag staff studded with precious gems, మనోజవాష్టాశ్వవరైః with eight choice horses endowed with the speed of mind, సుయోజితమ్ yoked.

The chariot was (strong as it was) gained by his austerities of high order. It was overlaid with pure gold armour, fixed with flags, and staff, studded with precious gems, yoked to the best of eight horses and endowed with the speed of mind.
సురాసురాధృష్యమసఙ్గచారిణం రవిప్రభం వ్యోమచరం సమాహితమ్.

సతూణమష్టాసినిబద్ధబన్ధురం యథాక్రమావేశితశక్తితోమరమ్৷৷5.47.5৷৷


సురాసురాధృష్యమ్ unassailable to suras and asuras, అసఙ్గచారిణమ్ moved without touching the ground, రవిప్రభమ్ with the spledour of Sun,వ్యోమచరమ్ that which can fly in air, సమాహితమ్ equipped readily, సతూణమ్ with quivers, అష్టాసి నిబద్ధబన్ధురమ్ with eight swords (readily placed)fastened, యథాక్రమావేశితశక్తితోమరమ్ javelins and clubs placed in right place in order.

(The chariot) was unassailable to suras or asuras.It moved without touching the ground, it could fly in air and had the splendour of the Sun. It was equipped readily with quivers, eight swords, javelins and clubs placed in right order.
విరాజమానం ప్రతిపూర్ణవస్తునా సహేమదామ్నా శశిసూర్యవర్చసా.

దివాకరాభం రథమాస్థితస్తతస్స నిర్జగామామరతుల్యవిక్రమః৷৷5.47.6৷৷


తతః then, అమరతుల్యవిక్రమః equal to gods in courage, సః he, సహేమదామ్నా with a golden garland, శశిసూర్యవర్చసా bright as Moon and Sun, ప్రతిపూర్ణవస్తునా equipped with all weapons, bows and shields etc, విరాజమానమ్ glowing, దివాకరాభమ్ shining like the Sun, రథమ్ chariot, ఆస్థితః ascended, నిర్జగామ went out.

Prince Aksha, whose courage was equal to that of gods, shone like the Sun. He ascended the splendid chariot decked with golden garlands shining like Sun and Moon, equipped with all weapons, bows and shields etc, he went out.
స పూరయన్ఖం చ మహీం చ సాచలాం తురఙ్గమాతఙ్గమహారథస్వనైః.

బలైస్సమేతైస్సహి తోరణస్థితం సమర్థమాసీనముపాగమత్కపిమ్৷৷5.47.7৷৷


సః he, తురఙ్గమాతఙ్గమహారథస్వనైః with the sounds of horses, elephants and chariot, ఖం చ and sky, సాచలామ్ including mountains, మహీం చ and earth, పూరయన్ while filling, సమేతైః together, బలైః సహ with army, తోరణస్థితమ్ stood at the gate, సమర్థమ్ efficient one, ఆసీనమ్ seated, మహాకపిమ్ great vanara, ఉపాగమత్ reached.

Seated on the chariot he (Aksha) sallied forth along with the army filling the entire earth and mountains with the sounds of horses, elephants and rumblings of big chariots and reached the portal where the great vanara stood.
స తం సమాసాద్య హరిం హరీక్షణో యుగాన్తకాలాగ్నిమివ ప్రజాక్షయే.

అవస్థితం విస్మితజాతసమ్భ్రమ స్సమైక్షతాక్షో బహుమానచక్షుషా৷৷5.47.8৷৷


హరీక్షణః who had eyes like that of a lion, సః అక్షః that Aksha, ప్రజాక్షయే at the time of destruction of the universe, అవస్థితమ్ appeared, కాలాగ్నిమ్ ఇవ like the cosmic fire at the time of dissolution, తమ్ him, హరిమ్ vanara,, సమాసాద్య reached, విస్మితజాతసమ్భ్రమః astonished with awe, బహుమానచక్షుషా with great respect, సమైక్షత saw.

The lion-eyed Aksha saw the vanara who appeared like the cosmic fire at the time of dissolution of the universe. The prince was astonished and struck with awe (at the
majestic form of the Vanara) and looked at him with great respect.
స తస్య వేగం చ కపేర్మహాత్మనః పరాక్రమం చారిషు పార్థివాత్మజః.

విచారయన్స్వం చ బలం మహాబలో హిమక్షయే సూర్య ఇవాభివర్ధతే৷৷5.47.9৷৷


మహాబలః mighty, పార్థివాత్మజః prince, సః he, మహాత్మనః great self, తస్య కపేః of the monkey, వేగం చ and speed, అరిషు at the enemies, పరాక్రమం చ prowess, స్వమ్ his, బలం చ even strength, విచారయన్ judging, హిమక్షయే at the end of winter, సూర్య ఇవ like the Sun, అభివర్ధతే began to swell up in spirit

Aksha, the mighty prince judging the speed and prowess of the monkey with his own in confronting enemies and the strength of the monkey, began to swell up in spirit like the glow of the Sun at the end of winter.
స జాతమన్యుః ప్రసమీక్ష్య విక్రమం స్థిరం స్థిరస్సమ్యతి దుర్నివారణమ్.

సమాహితాత్మా హనుమన్తమాహవే ప్రచోదయామాస శరైస్త్రిభి శ్శితైః৷৷5.47.10৷৷


సంయతి in war, దుర్నివారణమ్ irresistible, స్థిరమ్ steady, విక్రమమ్ valour, ప్రసమీక్ష్య recognising, సః that Aksha, జాతమన్యుః became angry, స్థిరః stable, సమాహితాత్మా with full attention, హనుమన్తమ్ Hanuman, శితైః with sharp, త్రిభిః with three శరైః arrows, ఆహవే in the battle, ప్రచోదయామాస provoked

Knowing that it is difficult to win Hanuman who was steady and of irresistible valour Aksha was angry. Remaining steady, with full attention, he provoked the vanara to fight and released three sharp arrows.
తతః కపిం తం ప్రసమీక్ష్య గర్వితం జితశ్రమం శత్రుపరాజయోర్జితమ్.

అవైక్షతాక్షస్సముదీర్ణమానసస్సబాణపాణిః ప్రగృహీతకార్ముకః৷৷5.47.11৷৷


తః then, సః అక్షః that Aksha, గర్వితమ్ with pride, శత్రుపరాజయోర్జితమ్ who was intent to conquer the enemy, తం కపిమ్ him, that Hanuman, జితశ్రమమ్ who conquered, ప్రసమీక్ష్య considered, బాణపాణిః with bow and arrows in hand, ప్రగృహీతకార్ముకః holding a bow,
సముదీర్ణమానసః reflected in his mind, అవైక్షత looked

Then Aksha contempuously looked at Hanuman who had conquered his fatigue and was determined to defeat the enemy. Holding in his hands his bow and arrows proudly, he reflected.
స హేమనిష్కాఙ్గదచారుకుణ్డల స్సమాససాదాశుపరాక్రమః కపిమ్.

తయోర్బభూవాప్రతిమస్సమాగమ స్సురాసురాణామపి సమ్భ్రమప్రదః৷৷5.47.12৷৷


ఆశుపరాక్రమః an energetic hero, హేమనిష్కాఙ్గదచారుకుణ్డలః wearing golden armlets studded with gold coins and lovely ear-rings, సః that, కపిమ్ monkey, సమాససాద reached, తయోః both of them, అప్రతిమః matchless, సమాగమః combat, సురాసురాణామపి even for suras and asuras, సమ్భ్రమప్రద: creating enthusiasm, అభూత్ became

Adorned with armlets studded with golden coins and lovely ear-rings Aksha advanced instantaneously to meet the monkey. Their matchless combat excuitement and enthusiasm even among gods and demons.
రరాస భూమిర్న తతాప భానుమా న్వనౌ న వాయుః ప్రచాచల చాచలః.

కపేః కుమారస్య చ వీక్ష్య సంయుగం ననాద చ ద్యౌరుదధిశ్చ చుక్షుభే৷৷5.47.13৷৷


కపేః of Hanuman, కుమారస్య చ and of the prince, సంయుగమ్ in battle, వీక్ష్య after seeing, భూమిః earth, రరాస shrieked in agony, భానుమాన్ even Sun, న తతాప became dim, వాయుః wind, న వనౌ blew not, అచలః చ mountains, ప్రచచాల shaken, ద్యౌః sky, ననాద చ thundered, ఉదధిశ్చ even the ocean, చుక్షుభే was agitated

Witnessing the fight between Hanuman and Prince Aksha, even the earth shrieked in agony, the Sun became dim, the wind stopped blowing, mountains were shaken, the sky thundered and even the ocean was agitated.
తతస్స వీరస్సుముఖాన్ పతత్రిణస్సువర్ణపుఙ్ఖాన్సవిషానివోరగాన్.

సమాధిసమ్యోగవిమోక్షతత్త్వవిచ్ఛరానథ త్రీన్కపిమూర్ధ్న్యపాతయత్৷৷5.47.14৷৷


తతః then, అథ there, వీరః hero, సమాధిసమ్యోగవిమోక్షతత్త్వవిత్ good at targeting and releasing with due concentration, సః he, సుముఖాన్ of good looking, సువర్ణపుఙ్ఖాన్ golden-shafted (touching the bow-string), పతత్రిణః winged arrows with feathers, సవిషాన్ smeared with poison, ఉరగానివ like serpents, త్రీన్ three, శరాన్ arrows, కపిమూర్ధ్ని on the head of the vanara, అపాతయత్ struck

Heroic Aksha, who was good at targeting correctly, with due concentration struck the vanara on his head with three golden-shafted, winged arrows with feathers smeared with poison which resembled serpents.
స తై శ్శరైర్మూర్ధ్ని సమం నిపాతితైః క్షరన్నసృగ్దిగ్ధవివృత్తలోచనః.

నవోదితాదిత్యనిభ శ్శరాంశుమాన్ వ్యరాజతాదిత్య ఇవాంశుమాలికః৷৷5.47.15৷৷


సమమ్ simultaneously, మూర్ధ్ని on the head, నిపాతితైః shot at, తైః by those శరైః by arrows, క్షరన్ flowing, అసృగ్దిగ్ధవివృత్తలోచనః eyes wetted with red blood flowing down, నవోదితాదిత్యనిభః glittering like the rising Sun, శరాంశుమాన్ arrows appeared like rays, సః he, అంశుమాలికః garlanded by rays, ఆదిత్య ఇవ like the Sun, వ్యరాజత glowed

With the three arrows shot on his forehead simultaneously his eyes were drenched with flowing blood and with arrows shining like rays he appeared like the rising Sun, garlanded by glowing rays.
తతస్స పిఙ్గాధిపమన్త్రిసత్తమః సమీక్ష్య తం రాజవరాత్మజం రణే.

ఉదగ్రచిత్రాయుధచిత్రకార్ముకం జహర్ష చాపూర్యత చాహవోన్ముఖః৷৷5.47.16৷৷


తతః then, సః he, Hanuman, పిఙ్గాధిపమన్త్రిసత్తమః esteemed minister of the coppery-eyed Sugriva, ఉదగ్రచిత్రాయుధచిత్రకార్ముకమ్ holding manifold splendid weapons raised, తమ్ him, రాజవరాత్మజమ్ that prince, సమీక్ష్య observed, జహర్ష rejoiced, ఆహవోన్ముఖః became ready for the battle, అపూర్యత చ made the necessary preparations

Hanuman, the esteemed minister of the coppery-eyed Sugriva observed the prince holding manifold splendid weapons. He rejoiced, grew in size ready to fight, making the necessary prepararions (taking the required position).
స మన్దరాగ్రస్థ ఇవాంశుమాలికో వివృద్ధకోపో బలవీర్యసంయుతః.

కుమారమక్షం సబలం సవాహనం దదాహ నేత్రాగ్నిమరీచిభిస్తదా৷৷5.47.17৷৷


మన్దరాగ్రస్థః Sun shining on the peak of mount Mandara, ఇవ just as, బలవీర్యసంయుతః endowed with strength and valour, సః he, Hanuman, వివృద్ధకోపః his anger grew, సబలమ్ with his army, సవాహనమ్ including all vehicles, కుమారమ్ king's son, అక్షమ్ Aksha, తదా then, నేత్రాగ్నిమరీచిభిః with the fiery rays emerging from the fiery eyes, దదాహ consumed

Huge Hanuman, endowed with strength and valour looked like the rising Sun on the peak of mount Mandara. He looked at prince Aksha and his army as well as his vehicles as though he was burning them with the rays emerging from his fiery eyes.
తతస్స బాణాసనచిత్రకార్ముక శ్శరప్రవర్షో యుధి రాక్షసామ్బుదః.

శరాన్ముమోచాశు హరీశ్వరాచలే వలాహకో వృష్టిమివాచలోత్తమే৷৷5.47.18৷৷


తతః then, బాణాసనచిత్రకార్ముకః endowed with a quiver and a wonderful bow, శరప్రవర్షః rain of arrows, సః రాక్షసామ్బుదః that cloud of a demon, యుధి in battle, ఆశు quickly, హరీశ్వరాచలే on the mountain of Hanuman, వలాహకః cloud, అచలోత్తమే on a great mountain, వృష్టిమివ like showers of rain, శరాన్ arrows, ముమోచ released

Aksha, with his wonderful quiver and bow, began to rain rapidly a shower of arrows in the battle, on the mountain-like monkey-lord just as a cloud rains on a mountain.
తతః కపిస్తం రణచణ్డవిక్రమం వివృద్ధతేజోబలవీర్యసంయుతమ్.

కుమారమక్షం ప్రసమీక్ష్య సంయుగే ననాద హర్షాద్ ఘనతుల్యవిక్రమమ్৷৷5.47.19৷৷


తతః then, కపిః Hanuman, రణచణ్డవిక్రమమ్ showing fierce valour, వివృద్ధతేజోబలవీర్యసంయుతమ్ endowed with excessive splendour, power and energy, ఘనతుల్యవిక్రమమ్ who had valour equal to a cloud, తమ్ him, కుమారమ్ అక్షమ్ prince Aksha, సంయుగే in battle, ప్రసమీక్ష్య after observing, హర్షాత్ happily, ననాద roared

Then Hanuman saw prince Aksha, endowed with excessive splendour, power and
energy advancing in a fierce manner like a cloud in the battle. Then Hanuman happy (to see the heroic prince) roared like a clap of thunder.
స బాలభావాద్యుధి వీర్యదర్పితః ప్రవృద్ధమన్యుః క్షతజోపమేక్షణః.

సమాససాదాప్రతిమం కపిం రణే గజో మహాకూపమివావృతం తృణైః৷৷5.47.20৷৷


బాలభావాత్ being young, యుధి in battle, వీర్యదర్పితః puffed with the pride of his valour, ప్రవృద్ధమన్యుః enraged, క్షతజోపమేక్షణః with blood-red eyes, సః he, రణే in fight, అప్రతిమమ్ matchless, కపిమ్ monkey, గజః elephant, తృణైః with grass, ఆవృతమ్ covered, మహాకూపమివ like a huge pitfall, సమాససాద rushed towards

Young Aksha, proud of his valour with eyes blood-shot in anger rushed towards the matchless Hanuman, just as an elephant would approach a huge pitfall covered with grass.
స తేన బాణైః ప్రసభం నిపాతితైశ్చకార నాదం ఘననాదనిస్స్వనః.

సముత్పపాతాశు నభస్స మారుతిర్భుజోరువిక్షేపణఘోరదర్శనః৷৷5.47.21৷৷


సః he, తేన by him, ప్రసభమ్ violently, నిపాతితైః with the released ones, బాణైః with arrows, ఘననాదనిఃస్వనః thundering cloud, నాదమ్ sound, చకార made, సః మారుతిః that Maruti, భుజోరువిక్షేపణఘోరదర్శనః looking dreadful stretching his arms and thighs, ఆశు suddenly, నభః sky, సముత్పపాత leaped

Struck by the arrows released by prince Aksha, Hanuman roared violently like a thundering cloud and leaped into the sky putting up a fierce appearance, stretching his arms and thighs.
సముత్పతన్తం సమభిద్రవద్బలీ స రాక్షసానాం ప్రవరః ప్రతాపవాన్.

రథీ రథిశ్రేష్ఠతమః కిరన్శరైః పయోధరశ్శైలమివాశ్మవృష్టిభిః৷৷5.47.22৷৷


బలీ mighty, రాక్షసానామ్ of the ogres, ప్రవరః leader, ప్రతాపవాన్ brave, రథీ charioteer, రథిశ్రేష్ఠతమః formost among the best warriors fighting on a chariot, సః that, పయోధరః cloud,
అశ్మవృష్టిభిః showering of hailstorm, శైలమివ like a mountain, శరైః with arrows, కిరన్ hitting into the sky, ఉత్పతన్తమ్ while leaping, సమభిద్రవత్ chased

స తాన్శరాంస్తస్య హరిర్విమోక్షయంశ్చచార వీరః పథి వాయుసేవితే.

శరాన్తరే మారుతవద్వినిష్పతన్మనోజవస్సంయతి చణ్డవిక్రమః৷৷5.47.23৷৷


మనోజవః one who had speed of mind, సంయతి in battle, చణ్డవిక్రమః who had terrific valour, వీరః hero, సః హరిః that Hanuman, శరాన్తరే in between arrows, మారుతవత్ like the wind, వినిష్పతన్ while emerging, తస్య his, శరాన్ arrows, విమోక్షయన్ while allowing them to be released, వాయుసేవితే served by wind, sky, పథి in the path, చచార moved about

Dodging like the wind between the arrows and also escaping the arrows Hanuman, who was swift in movement like the mind, was seen exhibiting his terrific valour in the battle while he moved in the sky.
తమాత్తబాణాసనమాహవోన్ముఖం ఖమాస్తృణన్తం విశిఖైశ్శరోత్తమైః.

అవైక్షతాక్షం బహుమానచక్షుషా జగామ చిన్తాం చ స మారుతాత్మజః৷৷5.47.24৷৷


సః మారుతాత్మజః that son of the Wind-god, ఆత్తబాణాసనమ్ holding a quiver, అహవోన్ముఖమ్ facing the battle, విశిఖైః with arrows, శరోత్తమైః with the best of missiles, ఖమ్ sky, ఆస్తృణన్తమ్ spreading in the sky, తమ్ him, అక్షమ్ that Aksha, బహుమానచక్షుషా admiring looks, అవైక్షత saw, చిన్తాం చ and thought,జగామ arose.

Admiring the young Aksha's appearance, his skill in holding the quiver and spreading the excellent arrows with missiles and facing the war, Hanuman became thoughtful (as to how to kill him).
తతశ్శరైర్భిన్నభుజాన్తరః కపిః కుమారవీరేణ మహాత్మనా నదన్.

మహాభుజః కర్మవిశేషతత్త్వవి ద్విచిన్తయామాస రణే పరాక్రమమ్৷৷5.47.25৷৷


తతః then, మహాభుజః strong-armed one, కర్మవిశేషతత్త్వవిత్ one who knew the propriety of special actions, కపిః monkey, మహాత్మనా by the great self, కుమారవీరేణ by the warrior prince, భిన్నభుజాన్తరః with his arms wounded, నదన్ roaring, రణే in battle, పరాక్రమమ్ regarding his heroic advances, విచిన్తయామాస started rethinking

The strong-armed Hanuman, who was aware of the propriety of actions, wounded in his arms by the warrior prince started roaring and thinking about the next strategy in the combat.
అబాలవద్బాలదివాకరప్రభః కరోత్యయం కర్మ మహన్మహాబలః.

న చాస్య సర్వాహవకర్మశోభినః ప్రమాపణే మే మతిరత్ర జాయతే৷৷5.47.26৷৷


బాలదివాకరప్రభః radiant as the rising Sun, మహాబలః powerful, అయమ్ this hero, అబాలవత్ unlike an amateur, మహత్ magnificent, కర్మ feat, కరోతి is doing, అత్ర here, సర్వాహవకర్మశోభినః of the hero who knows all means of fighting, అస్య his, ప్రమాపణే in cutting him to size, మే I, మతిః thinking, న చ జాయతే do not want to win

'He (Aksha) is like the radiant, rising Sun with extraordinary might. He is accomplishing great deeds unlike young warriors of his age and is exhibiting a magnificent feat. He knows all means of fighting. I do not feel like cutting him to size. My mind does not allow me to kill this boy.
అయం మహాత్మా చ మహాంశ్చ వీర్యత స్సమాహితశ్చాతిసహశ్చ సంయుగే.

అసంశయం కర్మగుణోదయాదయం సనాగయక్షైర్మునిభిశ్చ పూజితః৷৷5.47.27৷৷


అయమ్ this, మహాత్మా చ great self and, వీర్యతః చ even his valour, మహాన్ admirable, సమాహితః focused, సంయుగే in fight, అతిసహః highly tolerant, అయమ్ this hero, అసంశయమ్ no doubt, కర్మగుణోదయాత్ on account of his excellent actions, సనాగయక్షైః by the nagas, yakshas, మునిభిశ్చ even by sages, పూజితః saluted

'He is a great self. His valour is also admirable. He is focused in battle and highly tolerant. There is no doubt that on account of his excellence even nagas, yakshas and
sages offer salutations to him.
పరాక్రమోత్సాహవివృద్ధమానస స్సమీక్షతే మాం ప్రముఖాగ్రతఃస్థితః.

పరాక్రమో హ్యస్య మనాంసి కమ్పయేత్సురాసురాణామపి శీఘ్రగామినః৷৷5.47.28৷৷


పరాక్రమోత్సాహవివృద్ధమానసః mental horizon is expanding with his valour and power, ప్రముఖాగ్రతః facing me, స్థితః stood, మామ్ me, సమీక్షతే he is looking, శీఘ్రగామినః of a swift warrior, అస్య his, పరాక్రమః valour, సురాసురాణామ్ for suras and asuras, మనాంసి అపి minds also, ప్రకమ్పయేత్ will shake

'His mental horizon is enhanced by his valour and power. He is standing before me and dares to look into my eyes. Surely his swift movement and valour will shake even the minds of suras and asuras.
న ఖల్వయం నాభిభవేదుపేక్షితః పరాక్రమో హ్యస్య రణే వివర్ధతే.

ప్రమాపణం త్వేవ మమాద్య రోచతే న వర్ధమానోగ్నిరుపేక్షితుం క్షమః৷৷5.47.29৷৷


అయమ్ he, న ఉపేక్షితః not disregard, నాభిభవేత్ he will not overtake me, న ఖలు indeed, రణే in battle, అస్య his, పరాక్రమః valour, వర్ధతే హి is increasing, అద్య now, ప్రమాపణం త్వేవ killing him only, మమ for me, రోచతే is proper, వర్ధమానః growing, అగ్నిః fire, ఉపేక్షితుమ్ to neglect, న క్షమః not proper

If I ignore him now, he would get the better of me (I have to consider his challenge seriously). His valour in the battle is growing. It is proper to subdue him now. A spreading fire cannot be neglected.
ఇతి ప్రవేగం తు పరస్య చిన్తయన్స్వకర్మయోగం చ విధాయ వీర్యవాన్.

చకార వేగం తు మహాబలస్తదా మతిం చ చక్రేస్య వధే మహాకపిః৷৷5.47.30৷৷


వీర్యవాన్ valiant one, మహాబలః very powerful, మహాకపిః mighty vanara, ఇతి thus, పరస్య enemy's, ప్రవేగమ్ speed, చిన్తయన్ while reflecting upon, స్వకర్మయోగం చ and his own course of action, విధాయ after realising, తదా then, వేగమ్ speed, చకార increased, అస్య his, వధే in
killing, మతిం చ చక్రే made up his mind.

Reflecting on the power of the enemy, the mighty and valiant vanara thought of his own course of action. Hanuman made up his mind to kill the enemy and increased his speed.
స తస్య తానష్టహయాన్మహాజవాన్ సమాహితాన్భారసహాన్వివర్తనే.

జఘాన వీరః పథి వాయుసేవితే తలప్రహారైః పవనాత్మజః కపిః৷৷5.47.31৷৷


వీరః brave, పవనాత్మజః son of the Wind-god, సః కపిః that Hanuman, వాయుసేవితే attended by the wind, పథి on the path, మహాజవాన్ endowed with high speed, సమాహితాన్ stable ones, వివర్తనే in turning round, భారసహాన్ which could bear heavy loads, తాన్ those, అష్ట eight, హయాన్ horses, తలప్రహారైః by hitting with his palm, జఘాన killed

Hanuman the brave son of the Wind-god hit with his palm and killed the eight horses (yoked to Aksha's chariot) which had great speed were stable and had the capacity to bear heavy loads while turning round in the sky. (The battle was fought in the air since Hanuman leaped into the air and the demon hero had to resist him there).
తతస్తలేనాభిహతో మహారథ స్స తస్య పిఙ్గాధిపమన్త్రినిర్జితః.

ప్రభగ్ననీడః పరిముక్తకూబరః పపాత భూమౌ హతవాజిరమ్బరాత్৷৷5.47.32৷৷


తతః then, తలేన with the palm, అభిహతః hit, పిఙ్గాధిపమన్త్రినిర్జితః minister of the coppery-eyed monkey-lord destroyed, తస్య his, మహారథః huge chariot, ప్రభగ్ననీడః interior seat being broken, పరిముక్తకూబరః wooden frame (to which the yoke is fixed) disjointed, హతవాజిః horses slain, అమ్బరాత్ from the sky, భూమౌ on the earth, పపాత fell

Then hit by Hanuman with his palm, the minister of the coppery-eyed Sugriva, the huge chariot seat of Aksha was broken, the wooden frame of the yoke was disjointed, horses were slain and the great chariot fell down from the sky.
స తం పరిత్యజ్య మహారథో రథం సకార్ముకః ఖఙ్గధరః ఖముత్పతన్.

తపోభియోగాదృషిరుగ్రవీర్యవాన్విహాయ దేహం మరుతామివాలయమ్৷৷5.47.33৷৷


మహారథః great charioteer, సః that, రథమ్ chariot, పరిత్యజ్య abandoned, సకార్ముకః held his bow, ఖఙ్గధరః held a sword, ఖమ్ sky, ఉత్పతన్ flew up,ఉగ్రవీర్యవాన్ who had fierce power, దేహమ్ body, విహాయ after leaving, తపోభియోగాత్ with ascetic power, మరుతామ్ of Maruta, ఆలయమ్ abode, ఋషిః ఇవ like ascetic

తతః కపిస్తం విచరన్తమమ్బరే పతత్రిరాజానిలసిద్ధసేవితే.

సమేత్య తం మారుతతుల్యవిక్రమః క్రమేణ జగ్రాహ స పాదయోర్దృఢమ్৷৷5.47.34৷৷


తతః then, మారుతతుల్యవిక్రమః equal to wind in prowess, కపిః Hanuman, పతత్రిరాజానిలసిద్ధసేవితే in the flying abode of Garuda, Wind and the Siddhas, అమ్బరే in the sky, విచరన్తమ్ while flying, తమ్ him, సమేత్య reached, క్రమేణ gradually, తమ్ him, పాదయోః by both his legs, దృఢమ్ firmly, జగ్రాహ caught

Thereupon Hanuman with the prowess that was equal to wind, approaching the sky firmly caught hold of the legs of Aksha flying into the abode of Garuda, the Wind-god and the Siddhas.
స తం సమావిధ్య సహస్రశః కపిర్మహోరగం గృహ్య ఇవాణ్డజేశ్వరః.

ముమోచ వేగాత్పితృతుల్యవిక్రమో మహీతలే సంయతి వానరోత్తమః৷৷5.47.35৷৷


పితృతుల్యవిక్రమః one who had the valour of his father, వానరోత్తమః foremost of the vanaras, సః కపిఃthat Hanuman,అణ్డజేశ్వరః lord of birds, మహోరగమ్ great serpent, గృహ్య ఇవ as he seizes, తమ్ him, సంయతి in the battle, సహస్రశః thousand times, సమావిధ్య hitting, వేగాత్ speedily, మహీతలే on the earth, ముమోచ dropped

Hanuman, the foremost of the vanaras who was equal to his father in valour, seized him just as Garuda, the lord of birds, would seize a great serpent. And spinning him round speedily a thousand times and hitting him, dropped him on the earth.
స భగ్నబాహూరుకటీశిరోధరః క్షరన్నసృఙినర్మథితాస్థిలోచనః.

సమ్భగ్నసన్ధి: ప్రవికీర్ణబన్ధనో హతః క్షితౌ వాయుసుతేన రాక్షసః৷৷5.47.36৷৷


సః రాక్షసః that ogre, భగ్నబాహూరుకటీశిరోధరః with arms, thighs, hips and neck mangled, అసృక్ క్షరన్ dripping blood, నిర్మథితాస్థిలోచనః with his bones and eyes protruded, సమ్భగ్నసన్ధి: with joints dislocated, ప్రవికీర్ణబన్ధనః tendons strewn, వాయుసుతేన by the son of the Wind-god, క్షితౌ on earth, హతః was hit and thrown

Hit by Hanuman, the ogre's arms, thighs, hips and neck broken, bones rendered to fragments, eyes protruded, joints disjointed, tendons strewn he was thrown down on the earth dripping blood.
మహాకపిర్భూమితలే నిపీడ్య తం చకార రక్షోధిపతేర్మహద్భయమ్.

మహర్షిభిశ్చక్రచరైర్మహావ్రతై స్సమేత్య భూతైశ్చ సయక్షపన్నగైః৷৷5.47.37৷৷

సురైశ్చ సేన్ద్రైర్భృశజాతవిస్మయై ర్హతే కుమారే స కపిర్నిరీక్షితః.


మహాకపిః great vanara, తమ్ him, భూమితలే on the earth, నిపీడ్య after smashing down, రక్షోధిపతేః of the king of demons, మహత్ great, భయమ్ fear, చకార developed, కుమారే when the prince was హతే slain, సః కపిః that vanara, భృశజాతవిస్మయైః who were wonder-struck, చక్రచరైః those who take rounds, మహావ్రతైః by those observants of great vows, మహర్షిభిః great seers, సయక్షపన్నగైః including yakshas and pannagas, భూతైశ్చ all beings, సేన్ద్రైః including Indra, సురైశ్చ and by suras, సమేత్య collecting together, నిరీక్షితః seen with awe

When the great vanara dashed Aksha down on to the earth, the king of demons was struck with terror. The great sages who go round the planets, great seers who were observants of vows, yakshas, panagas, suras including Indra all beings collected together and looked at the vanara with awe.
నిహత్య తం వజ్రిసుతోపమప్రభం కుమారమక్షం క్షతజోపమేక్షణమ్.

తమేవ వీరోభిజగామ తోరణం కృతక్షణః కాల ఇవ ప్రజాక్షయే৷৷5.47.38৷৷


వీరః hero, వజ్రిసుతోపమప్రభమ్ radiant like the son of Indra, క్షతజోపమేక్షణమ్ who had blood-shot eyes, తమ్ him అక్షమ్ Aksha, నిహత్య having slain, ప్రజాక్షయే in destruction of human beings, కృతక్షణః determined, కాలః ఇవ like god of death, తమ్ that, తోరణమేవ at the portal, అభిజగామ reached

Hanuman, the hero with blood-shot eyes having slain Aksha, shone resplendent like the son of Indra (Jayanta), and reached the portal, and waited looking like the god of death determined to destroy all beings.
ఇత్యార్షే వాల్మీకీయే శ్రీమద్రామాయణే ఆదికావ్యే సున్దరకాణ్డే సప్తచత్వారింశస్సర్గః৷৷
Thus ends the fortyseventh sarga of Sundarakanda of the holy Ramayana, the first epic composed by sage Valmiki.
