[Hanuman narrates all the incidents starting from his departure for Lanka till his return.]

తతస్తస్య గిరేః శృఙ్గే మహేన్ద్రస్య మహాబలాః.

హనుమత్ప్రముఖాః ప్రీతిం హరయో జగ్మురుత్తమామ్৷৷5.58.1৷৷


తతః then, మహాబలాః mighty, హనుమత్ప్రముఖాః Hanuman the foremost, హరయః among vanaras, తస్య that, మహేన్ద్రస్యగిరేః on the mountain Mahendra, శృఙ్గే summit, ఉత్తమామ్ very much, ప్రీతిమ్ rejoiced, జగ్ముః went.

Then the mighty Hanuman and other vanaras having assembled on the summit of mountain Mahendra and felt vey much happy.
తం తతః ప్రీతిసంహృష్టః ప్రీతిమన్తం మహాకపిమ్.

జామ్బవాన్కార్యవృత్తాన్తమపృచ్ఛదనిలాత్మజమ్৷৷5.58.2৷৷


తతః thereafter, ప్రీతిసంహృష్టః very delighted, జామ్బవాన్ Jambavan, ప్రీతిమన్తమ్ very affectionately, మహాకపిమ్ great monkey, అనిలాత్మజమ్ Hanuman, కార్యవృత్తాన్తమ్ all that happened, అపృచ్ఛత్ inquired.

Thereafter, very delighted Jambavan inquired Hanuman most affectionately of all that happened.
కథం దృష్టా త్వయా దేవీ కథం వా తత్ర వర్తతే.

తస్యాం వా స కథంవృత్తః క్రూరకర్మా దశాననః৷৷5.58.3৷৷


దేవీ divine lady, త్వయా by you, కథమ్ how, దృష్టా was she found, తత్ర there, కథం వా how is she, వర్తతే behaving, క్రూరకర్మా cruel in action, సః దశాననః that ten-headed one, తస్యామ్ with her, కథంవృత్తః you narrate (what she said).

"How did you find the god-like lady? How was she? How was the ten-headed one, cruel in action, behaving with her? You may narrate what she said.
తత్త్వతస్సర్వమేతన్నః ప్రబ్రూహి త్వం మహాకపే.

శ్రుతార్థాశ్చిన్తయిష్యామో భూయః కార్యవినిశ్చయమ్৷৷5.58.4৷৷


మహాకపే great vanara, ఏతత్ all that, సర్వమ్ entire, తత్త్వతః truly, త్వమ్ you, నః us, ప్రబ్రూహి after knowing, శ్రుతార్థాః after hearing, భూయఃకార్యవినిశ్చయమ్ next course of action, చిన్తయిష్యామః will think .

"O Hanuman, tell us in detail the entire thing. On hearing it, we will think about the next course of action.
యశ్చార్థస్తత్త్ర వక్తవ్యో గతైరస్మాభిరాత్మవాన్.

రక్షితవ్యం చ యత్తత్ర తద్భవాన్వ్యాకరోతు నః৷৷5.58.5৷৷


గతైః when we go, అస్మాభిః we too, తత్ర there, యః that which, అర్థః meaningful, వక్తవ్యః will tell, యత్ that which, తత్ర there, రక్షితవ్యం చ to be hidden, తత్ that, ఆత్మవాన్ yourself, భవాన్ you are wise, నః to us, వ్యాకరోతు tell us in detail.

"You are wise and you should tell us in detail what is to be told and what has to be hidden when we report."
స నియుక్తస్తతస్తేన సమ్ప్రహృష్టతనూరుహః.

ప్రణమ్య శిరసా దేవ్యై సీతాయై ప్రత్యభాషత৷৷5.58.6৷৷


తేన by him, నియుక్తః having been asked, సః he, సమ్ప్రహృష్టతనూరుహః horripilations all over his body out of joy, తతః then, దేవ్యై to queen, సీతాయై to Sita, శిరసా bowed down head, ప్రణమ్య saluted, ప్రత్యభాషత began telling.

Having been asked (by Jambavan and others) Hanuman with horripilations all over his
body, bowed down and saluted in the direction of queen Sita and began:
ప్రత్యక్షమేవ భవతాం మహేన్ద్రాగ్రాత్ఖామాప్లుతః.

ఉదధేర్దక్షిణం పారం కాఙ్క్షమాణ స్సమాహితః৷৷5.58.7৷৷


ఉదధేః rose up, దక్షిణమ్ southern, పారమ్ shore, కాఙ్క్షమాణః you have seen, సమాహితః intent on, భవతామ్ all of you, ప్రత్యక్షమేవ directly, మహేన్ద్రాగ్రాత్ Mahendra mountain, ఖమ్ sky, ఆప్లుతః leaping.

"I rose upwards leaping into the sky, intent on reaching the southern shore from the mountain Mahendra.It has been witnessed directly by all of you.
గచ్ఛతశ్చ హి మే ఘోరం విఘ్నరూపమివాభవత్.

కాఞ్చనం శిఖరం దివ్యం పశ్యామి సుమనోహరమ్৷৷5.58.8৷৷


గచ్ఛతః while I was going, మే I, ఘోరమ్ terrific, విఘ్నరూపమివ like a form that came to obstruct, అభవత్ saw, కాఞ్చనమ్ golden, దివ్యమ్ wonderful, సుమనోహరమ్ very beautiful, శిఖరమ్ peak of mountain, పశ్యామి saw.

"Even as I was leaping I saw a terrific and wonderful golden peak which came as if to obstruct me on my path.
స్థితం పన్ధానమావృత్య మేనే విఘ్నం చ తం నగమ్.

ఉపసఙ్గమ్య తం దివ్యం కాఞ్చనం నగసత్తమమ్৷৷5.58.9৷৷

కృతా మే మనసా బుద్ధిర్భేత్తవ్యోయం మయేతి చ.


పన్థానమ్ on my way, ఆవృత్య turning towards, స్థితమ్ stood, తం నగమ్ that mountain, విఘ్నమ్ to obstruct, మేనే my path, దివ్యమ్ wonderful, కాఞ్చనమ్ golden, తం నగసత్తమమ్ that great mountain, ఉపసఙ్గమ్య meeting, అయమ్ this, మయా by me, భేత్తవ్యః ఇతి this should be broken, మే మనసా in my mind, బుద్ధిః కృతా resolved.

"The mountain stood on my way turning towards me in order to obstruct me. Then I resolved in my mind that this great, wonderful, golden mountain has to be smashed.
ప్రహతం చ మయా తస్య లాఙ్గూలేన మహాగిరేః৷৷5.58.10৷৷

శిఖరం సూర్యసఙ్కాశం వ్యశీర్యత సహస్రధా.


మయా by me, లాఙ్గూలేన with my tail, ప్రహతమ్ hit, తస్య మహాగిరేః that great mountain, సూర్యసఙ్కాశమ్ radiating like the Sun, శిఖరమ్ peak, సహస్రధా a thousand pieces, వ్యశీర్యత shattered.

"Hit by my tail the great mountain peak, which was radiating like the Sun was shattered into a thousand pieces.
వ్యవసాయం చ తం బుద్ధ్వా స హోవాచ మహాగిరిః৷৷5.58.11.

పుత్త్రేతి మధురాం వాణీం మనః ప్రహ్లాదయన్నివ.


సః మహాగిరిః that great mountain, తమ్ him, వ్యవసాయమ్ going to smash, బుద్ధ్వా perceiving, మనః my mind, ప్రహ్లాదయన్నివ delighting, పుత్త్ర ఇతి like a son, మధురామ్ sweet, వాణీమ్ tone, ఉవాచ హ spoke.

"Perceiving that I am going to smash him he spoke to me in a sweet tone delighting my heart, addressing me like a son.
పితృవ్యం చాపి మాం విద్ధి సఖాయం మాతరిశ్వనః৷৷5.58.12৷৷

మైనాకమితి విఖ్యాతం నివసన్తం మహోదధౌ.


మహోదధౌ in the great ocean, నివసన్తమ్ residing, మాతరిశ్వనః wind-deity, సఖాయమ్ friend, విఖ్యాతమ్ called, మామ్ I, మైనాకమితి Mainaka, పితృవ్యం చాపి like father's brother, విద్ధి you may know.

'Know me to be a friend of wind-god and so I am like your father's brother. I am dwelling in this great ocean and known as Mainaka.
పక్షవన్తః పురా పుత్త్ర బభూవుః పర్వతోత్తమాః৷৷5.58.13৷৷

ఛన్దతః పృథివీం చేరుర్బాధమానాః సమన్తతః.


పుత్త్ర O son!, పురా in the past, పర్వతోత్తమాః the foremost of mountains, పక్షవన్తః had wings, బభూవుః had, బాధమానాః tormenting, ఛన్దతః at will, సమన్తతః all over, పృథివీమ్ the earth, చేరుః ranging.

'O son! in the past, foremost of the mountains too had wings and they used to range at will all over the earth tormenting all.
శ్రుత్వా నగానాం చరితం మహేన్ద్రః పాకశాసనః৷৷5.58.14৷৷

చిచ్ఛేద భగవాన్ పక్షాన్వజ్రేణైషాం సహస్రశః.


పాకశాసనః who killed Paka (an ogre), భగవాన్ god, మహేన్ద్రః Mahendra, నగానామ్ of the mountains, చరితమ్ the story (of their cruel deeds), శ్రుత్వా on hearing, ఏషామ్ their, పక్షాన్ wings, వజ్రేణ by the thuinderbolt, సహస్రశః into a thousand pieces, చిచ్ఛేద cut off.

'Mahendra, the killer of ogre Paka, heard the story (of the cruel deeds) of mountains and cut off their wings into a thousand pieces with his thunderbolt.
అహం తు మోక్షితస్తస్మాత్తవ పిత్రా మహాత్మనా৷৷5.58.15৷৷

మారుతేన తదా వత్స ప్రక్షిప్తోస్మి మహార్ణవే.


వత్స O Son!, అహం తు I was also, తవ your, పిత్రా father, మహాత్మనా great self, మారుతేన of Maruta's, తదా so also, తస్మాత్ your, మోక్షితః dropped, మహార్ణవే in this great ocean, ప్రక్షిప్తః saved from Indra, అస్మి I am.

'O son! I was saved from Indra by your kind father Maruta who dropped me in this great ocean.
రామస్య చ మయా సాహ్యే వర్తితవ్యమరిన్దమ৷৷5.58.16৷৷

రామో ధర్మభృతాం శ్రేష్ఠో మహేన్ద్రసమవిక్రమః.


అరిన్దమ subduer of enemies, మయా by me, రామస్య Rama's, సాహ్యే received help, వర్తితవ్యమ్ has to make efforts, మహేన్ద్రసమవిక్రమః equal to Mahendra in valour, రామః Rama, ధర్మభృతామ్ among the righteous, శ్రేష్ఠః foremost.

'O subduer of enemies!I must make efforts to help Rama the foremost among the righteous, for I have received help (from your father) who is equal to Indra in valour'.
ఏతచ్ఛ్రుత్వా వచస్తస్య మైనాకస్య మహాత్మనః৷৷5.58.17৷৷

కార్యమావేద్య తు గిరేరుద్యతం చ మనో మమ.

తేన చాహమనుజ్ఞాతో మైనాకేన మహాత్మనా৷৷5.58.18৷৷


మహాత్మనః great self, తస్య మైనాకస్య that Mainaka's, వచః words, శ్రుత్వా having heard, కార్యమ్ task, గిరేః mountain, ఆవేద్య told, మమ my, మనః mind, ఉద్యతమ్ to go, అహమ్ I, తేన to him, మహాత్మనా the great self, మైనాకేన by Mainaka, అనుజ్ఞాతశ్చ granted permission.

"When I heard Mainaka, I told him about my intention to go up. That great self Mainaka allowed me.
స చాప్యన్తర్హితః శైలో మానుషేణ వపుష్మతా.

శరీరేణ మహాశైలః శైలేన చ మహోదధౌ৷৷5.58.19৷৷


సః he, శైలః mountain, మానుషేణ in human form, వపుష్మతా అన్తర్హితః concealed, మహాశైలః huge mountain, శైలేన in mountain form, శరీరేణ చ in the form, మహోదధౌ great ocean, అన్తర్హితః remained hidden.

"Then the huge mountain in human form concealed as huge mountains remain hidden in the ocean.
ఉత్తమం జవమాస్థాయ శేషం పన్థానమాస్థితః.

తతోహం సుచిరం కాలం వేగేనాభ్యాగమం పథి৷৷5.58.20৷৷


తతః then, అహమ్ I, ఉత్తమమ్ excellent, జవమ్ speed, ఆస్థాయ catching, శేషమ్ rest of, పన్థానమ్ the path, ఆస్థితః to cross, సుచిరం కాలమ్ long time, వేగేన speedily, అభ్యాగమమ్ went on.

"Then with great speed I proceeded on my path. It took a long time to cross the ocean.
తతః పశ్యామ్యహం దేవీం సురసాం నాగమాతరమ్.

సముద్రమధ్యే సా దేవీ వచనం మామభాషత৷৷5.58.21৷৷


తతః then, అహమ్ I, నాగమాతరమ్ mother of serpents, సురసామ్ Surasa, పశ్యామి saw, సా దేవీ that lady, సముద్రమధ్యే in the midst of the ocean, మామ్ me, వచనమ్ these words, అభాషత said.

"I saw Surasa, the mother of serpents in the midst of the ocean and she said:
మమ భక్షః ప్రదిష్టస్త్వమమరైర్హరిసత్తమ.

అతస్త్వాం భక్షయిష్యామి విహితస్త్వం చిరస్య మే৷৷5.58.22৷৷


హరిసత్తమ powerful monkey, త్వమ్ you, మమ my, భక్షః food, అమరైః immortals,ప్రదిష్టః destined, అతః as such, త్వామ్ you, భక్షయిష్యామి I will eat you, త్వమ్ you, మే my, చిరస్య after a long time, విహితః found you.

'O powerful monkey! you are destined to be my food provided by the immortals. Therefore, I will eat you as I have I found you after a long time. (of unsatiated hunger).'
ఏవముక్త స్సురసయా ప్రాఞ్జలిః ప్రణతః స్థితః.

వివర్ణవదనో భూత్వా వాక్యం చేదముదీరయమ్৷৷5.58.23৷৷


సురసయా by Surasa, ఏవమ్ in that way, ఉక్తః having spoken, ప్రాఞ్జలిః offered salutations
with folded palms, ప్రణతః bent low, స్థితః stood, వివర్ణవదనః face turned pale, భూత్వా became, ఇదమ్ these, వాక్యం చ and words, ఉదీరయమ్ uttered.

"When addressed thus by Surasa, I bowed low with joined palms, stood before her with my face turned pale, and said:
రామో దాశరథిః శ్రీమాన్ ప్రవిష్టో దణ్డకావనమ్.

లక్ష్మణేన సహ భ్రాత్రా సీతయా చ పరన్తపః৷৷5.58.24৷৷


దాశరథిః Dasaratha's son, శ్రీమాన్ illustrious, పరన్తపః scorcher of enemies, రామః Rama, దణ్డకావనమ్ Dandaka forest, భ్రాత్రా brother, లక్ష్మణేన సహ accompanied by Lakshmana, సీతయా చ and Sita, ప్రవిష్టః entered.

'Dasaratha's son, the illustrious Rama, a scorcher of enemies, accompanied by his brother Lakshmana and wife Sita entered Dandaka forest.
తస్య సీతా హృతా భార్యా రావణేన దురాత్మనా.

తస్యా స్సఙ్కాశం దూతోహం గమిష్యే రామశాసనాత్৷৷5.58.25৷৷


తస్య his, భార్యా wife, సీతా Sita, దురాత్మనా evil minded, రావణేన by Ravana, హృతా abducted, అహమ్ I, రామశాసనాత్ by Rama's command, దూతః messenger, తస్యాః her, సఙ్కాశమ్ to meet, గమిష్యే going.

'His wife was abducted by the evil-minded Ravana. By Rama's command I am going to meet her as messenger from Rama.'
కర్తుమర్హసి రామస్య సాహాయ్యం విషయే సతీ.

అథవా మైథిలీం దృష్ట్వా రామం చాక్లిష్టకారిణమ్৷৷5.58.26৷৷

ఆగమిష్యామి తే వక్త్రం సత్యం ప్రతిశృణోమి తే.


విషయే king's wife, సతీ wife, రామస్య Rama's, సాహాయ్యమ్ help, కర్తుమ్ will do, అర్హసి fit, అథవా or
else, మైథిలీమ్ when Mythili, అక్లిష్టకారిణమ్ after revealing about her, రామం చ and Rama, దృష్ట్వా seeing, తే to you, వక్త్రమ్ mouth, ఆగమిష్యామి will enter, సత్యమ్ it is true, తే you, ప్రతిశృణోమి promise.

"I told her that it is proper for her (living in the domain of Rama) to help his queen and wife. Or else, I promised after I disclose to Rama, Sita's whereabouts, I will come and enter her mouth.
ఏవముక్తా మయా సా తు సురసా కామరూపిణీ.5.58.27৷৷

అబ్రవీన్నాతివర్తేత కశ్చిదేష వరో మమ.


మయా by me, ఏవమ్ in that way, ఉక్తా having said, కామరూపిణీ who can assume any form at will, సా సురసా that Surasa, అబ్రవీత్ said, కశ్చిత్ none, నాతివర్తేత can escape, ఏషః thus, మమ I have, వరః a boon.

ఏవముక్తస్సురసయా దశయోజనమాయతః৷৷5.58.28৷৷

తతోర్థగుణవిస్తారో బభూవాహం క్షణేన తు.


సురసయా when Surasa, ఏవమ్ in that way, ఉక్తః spoke, దశయోజనమ్ ten yojanas, ఆయతః in length, అహమ్ I, తతః then, క్షణేన in a moment, అర్థగుణవిస్తారః fifteen yojanas, బభూవ grew in size.

"When Surasa said this I who was ten yojanas in height increased by fifteen yojanas.
మత్ప్రమాణానురూపం చ వ్యాదితం చ ముఖం తయా৷৷5.58.29৷৷

తద్దృష్ట్వా వ్యాదితం చాస్యం హ్రస్వం హ్యకరవం వపుః.

తస్మిన్ముహూర్తే చ పునర్బభూవాఙ్గుష్ఠమాత్రకః৷৷5.58.30৷৷


తయా to go, ముఖమ్ mouth, మత్ప్రమాణానురూపమ్ commensurate with my size, వ్యాదితమ్ opened, వ్యాదితమ్ when she opened, తత్ that, ఆస్యమ్ her, దృష్ట్వా seeing, వపుః form, హ్రస్వమ్ turned away, ఆకరవమ్ to move, తస్మిన్ from her, ముహూర్తే in a moment, పునః again, అఙ్గుష్ఠమాత్రకః of the size of thumb, బభూవ became.

"She too opened her mouth wide enough for my size. Seeing her distending her mouth, in a moment I became small equal to the size of thumb and came out.
అభిపత్యాశు తద్వక్త్రం నిర్గతోహం తతః క్షణాత్.

అబ్రవీత్సురసా దేవీ స్వేన రూపేణ మాం పునః৷৷5.58.31৷৷


తతః then, అహమ్ I, ఆశు she, తద్వక్త్రమ్ her mouth, అభిపత్య seeing, క్షణాత్ in a moment, నిర్గతః came out, దేవీ lady, సురసా Surasa, స్వేన natural, రూపేణ form assumed, పునః again, మామ్ to me, అబ్రవీత్ said.

"Then Surasa assumed her natural form again in a moment and said this to me:
అర్థసిద్ధ్యై హరిశ్రేష్ఠ గచ్ఛ సౌమ్య యథాసుఖమ్.

సమానయ చ వైదేహీం రాఘవేణ మహాత్మనా৷৷5.58.32৷৷

సుఖీ భవ మహాబాహో ప్రీతాస్మి తవ వానర.


సౌమ్య O noble one!, హరిశ్రేష్ఠ foremost of vanaras, అర్థసిద్ధ్యై accomplish the task, యథాసుఖమ్ happily, గచ్ఛ going, వైదేహీమ్ Vaidehi, మహాత్మనా great self, రాఘవేణ to Raghava, సమానయ unite, మహాబాహో strong-armed, వానర vanara, సుఖీ be happy, భవ you, తవ you, ప్రీతా pleased, అస్మి I am.

'O noble vanara! O foremost of the vanaras! go and accomplish the task.Unite the great Rama with Vaidehi.O strong-armed vanara, be happy. I am pleased with you'.
తతోహం సాధు సాధ్వితి సర్వభూతైః ప్రశంసితః৷৷5.58.33৷৷

తతోన్తరిక్షం విపులం ప్లుతోహం గరుడో యథా.


తతః then, అహమ్ I, సర్వభూతైః all creatures, సాధు సాధ్వితి well done, well done, ప్రశంసితః praised, తతః then, అహమ్ I, గరుడో యథా like Garuda, విపులమ్ vast, అన్తరిక్షమ్ sky, ప్లుతః leapt .

"Then all creatures praised me saying 'well done well done'. Then I leaped into the vast sky like Garuda.
ఛాయా మే నిగృహీతా చ న చ పశ్యామి కించన৷৷5.58.34৷৷

సోహం విహతవేగస్తు దిశో దశ విలోకయన్.

న కిఞ్చిత్తత్ర పశ్యామి యేన మేపహృతా గతిః৷৷5.58.35৷৷


మే my, ఛాయా shadow, నిగృహీతా held, కిఞ్చన by some one, న చ పశ్యామి I could not see, విహతవేగః reduced my speed, సః అహమ్ I, దశ దిశః all the ten directions, విలోకయన్ looked around, యేన even then, మే to me, గతిః one that approached, అపహృతా that which seized, కిఞ్చిత్ not seen, తత్ర న చ పశ్యామి was not seen.

"Then I was captured by a shadow of some one. I could not see and I reduced my speed and looked around in all the ten directions. I could not see the one who seized me.
తతో మే బుద్ధిరుత్పన్నా కిన్నామ గగనే మమ.

ఈదృశో విఘ్న ఉత్పన్నో రూపం యత్ర న దృశ్యతే৷৷5.58.36৷৷


తతః then, మే my, బుద్ధిః intellect, ఉత్పన్నా arose, మమ in me, గగనే in the sky, యత్ర there, రూపమ్ form, న దృశ్యతే not able to see, కిం నామ what is her name, ఈదృశః not able to discern, విఘ్నః obstructing, ఉత్పన్నః thought.

అధోభాగేన మే దృష్టి శ్శోచతా పాతితా మయా.

తతోద్రాక్షమహం భీమాం రాక్షసీం సలిలేశయామ్৷৷5.58.37৷৷


శోచతా thinking so, మయా by me, అధోభాగేన down, మే I, దృష్టిః saw, పాతితా down, తతః there, అహమ్ I, భీమామ్ terrific, సలిలేశయామ్ in the water, రాక్షసీమ్ she-demon, అద్రాక్షమ్ I saw.

"Thinking so I looked down into the water and there I saw a terrific she-demon.
ప్రహస్య చ మహానాదముక్తోహం భీమయా తయా.

అవస్థితమసమ్భ్రాన్తమిదం వాక్యమశోభనమ్৷৷5.58.38৷৷


భీమయా frightening, తయా she was, మహానాదమ్ loud voice, ప్రహస్య laughed, అవస్థితమ్ without any hesitation, అసమ్భ్రాన్తమ్ steadfast, ఇదమ్ this, అశోభనమ్ inauspicious, వాక్యమ్ these words, అహమ్ to me, ఉక్తః said.

"She was frightening and laughed in loud voice without any hesitation. Steadfast she uttered these ominous words to me:
క్వాసి గన్తా మహాకాయ క్షుధితాయా మమేప్సితః.

భక్షః ప్రీణయ మే దేహం చిరమాహారవర్జితమ్৷৷5.58.39৷৷


మహాకాయ one with a huge body, క్వ where, గన్తా going, అసి you are, క్షుధితాయాః I am hungry, మమ my, ఈప్సితః I am eager, భక్షః to eat, చిరమ్ for long time, ఆహారవర్జితమ్ without food, మే my, దేహమ్ body, ప్రీణయ make me satisfied.

'O huge monkey! where are you going? I am hungry since long. I am going without food and must eat you. Make me satisfied'.
బాఢమిత్యేవ తాం వాణీం ప్రత్యగృహ్ణామహం తతః.

అస్యప్రమాణాదధికం తస్యాః కాయమపూరయమ్৷৷5.58.40৷৷


అహమ్ I am, బాఢమ్ ఇత్యేవ saying well, తాం వాణీమ్ her mouth, ప్రత్యగృహ్ణామ్ తతః then, తస్యాః her, అస్యప్రమాణాత్ more than her size, అధికమ్ bigger, కాయమ్ size body, అపూరయమ్ grew.

"I said 'well' and enlarged my body more than her mouth could hold.
తస్యాశ్చాస్యం మహద్భీమం వర్ధతే మమ భక్షణే.

న చ మాం సాధు బుబుధే మమ వా వికృతం కృతమ్৷৷5.58.41৷৷


తస్యాః her, మహత్ huge, భీమమ్ fierce, ఆస్యం చ mouth, మమ భక్షణే to eat me, వర్ధతే increased, మామ్ myself, కృతమ్ did, మమ my, వికృతమ్ ugly, సాధు on my own, న బుబుధే not know.

"She opened her huge mouth to eat me as she did not know that I had already assumed a huge ugly form on my own.
తతోహం విపులం రూపం సంక్షిప్య నిమిషాన్తరాత్.

తస్యా హృదయమాదాయ ప్రపతామి నభ:స్థలమ్৷৷5.58.42৷৷


తతః then, అహమ్ I, నిమిషాన్తరాత్ in a moment, విపులమ్ vast, రూపమ్ form, సంక్షిప్య reduced, తస్యాః from her, హృదయమ్ heart, ఆదాయ entered, నభస్థలమ్ into the sky, ప్రపతామి sprang up.

"In a moment I reduced from a huge form to a small one, entered her heart and sprang into the sky.
సా విసృష్టభుజా భీమా పపాత లవణామ్భసి.

మయా పర్వతసఙ్కాశా నికృత్తహృదయా సతీ৷৷5.58.43৷৷


భీమా fierce, పర్వతసఙ్కాశా resembling mountain, సా she, మయా my, నికృత్తహృదయా pulled out her heart, సతీ she, విసృష్టభుజా hanging down her arms, లవణామ్భసి into the ocean, పపాత fell.

"She who resembled a mountain fell into the ocean with her arms hanging down when I pulled out her heart.
శృణోమి ఖగతానాం చ సిద్ధానాం చారణైస్సహ.

రాక్షసీ సింహికా భీమా క్షిప్రం హనుమతా హతా৷৷5.58.44৷৷


చారణైః సహ including charanas, ఖగతానామ్ residing in the sky, సిద్ధానామ్ siddhas, భీమా fierce, రాక్షసీ ogres సింహికా Simhika, క్షిప్రమ్ in a moment, హనుమతా by Hanuman, హతా slain, శృణోమి (talking to each other) I heard.

"I heard the charanas and siddhas residing in the sky talking to each other that the fierce ogres Simhika has been killed by Hanuman in a moment.
తాం హత్వా పునరేవాహం కృత్యమాత్యయికం స్మరన్.

గత్వా చాహ మహధ్వానం పశ్యామి నగమణ్డితమ్৷৷5.58.45৷৷

దక్షిణం తీరముదధేర్లఙ్కా యత్ర చ సా పురీ.


అహమ్ I, తామ్ her, హత్వా having slain, పునరేవ once again, అత్యయికమ్ huge, కృత్యమ్ feat, స్మరన్ remembered, మహత్ అధ్వానమ్ huge mission, గత్వా went, యత్ర there, సా that, లఙ్కాపురీ city of Lanka, ఉదధేః full of trees, దక్షిణం తీరమ్ southern shore, పశ్యామి saw.

"Having slained Simhika, I thought of the huge feat that I have done. I remembered the big mission before me and went to the southern shore of the ocean and saw Lanka full of trees.
అస్తం దినకరే యాతే రక్షసాం నిలయం పురమ్৷৷5.58.46৷৷

ప్రవిష్టోహమవిజ్ఞాతో రక్షోభిర్భీమవిక్రమైః.


దినకరే Sun, అస్తం యాతే after setting, అహమ్ I, భీమవిక్రమైః of fierce valour, రక్షోభిః guarded, అవిజ్ఞాతః unnoticed, రక్షసామ్ demons, నిలయమ్ abode, పురమ్ city, ప్రవిష్టః entered.

తత్ర ప్రవిశతశ్చాపి కల్పాన్తఘనసన్నిభా৷৷5.58.47৷৷

అట్టహాసం విముఞ్చన్తీ నారీ కాప్యుత్థితా పురః.


తత్ర there, ప్రవిశతః as I entered, పురః the city, కల్పాన్తఘనసన్నిభా like a cloud at the dissolution of the universe, కాపి behaving like, నారీ woman, అట్టహాసమ్ yelling, విముఞ్చన్తీ stood in front, ఉత్థితా opposing me.

జిఘాంసన్తీం తతస్తాం తు జ్వలదగ్నిశిరోరుహామ్৷৷5.58.48৷৷

సవ్యముష్టిప్రహారేణ పరాజిత్య సుభైరవామ్.

ప్రదోషకాలే ప్రవిశం భీతయాహం తయోదితః৷৷5.58.49৷৷


తతః then, జిఘాంసన్తీమ్ burning, జ్వలదగ్నిశిరోరుహామ్ hair like the sacrificial fire, సుభైరవామ్ frightening form, తామ్ her, సవ్యముష్టిప్రహారేణ hit with the fist of the left hand, పరాజిత్య after defeating, ప్రదోషకాలే at the sun-set time, ప్రవిశమ్ entered, భీతయా fearful form, తయా she, అహమ్ me, ఉదితః risen.

"Then the frightening form, with its hair burning like sacrificial fire, emerged to kill me. I defeated her hittting with my left fist and entered the city at sun-set time.
అహం లఙ్కాపురీ వీర నిర్జితా విక్రమేణ తే.

యస్మాత్తస్మాద్విజేతాసి సర్వరక్షాంస్యశేషతః৷৷5.58.50৷৷


వీర hero, అహమ్ I, లఙ్కాపురీ the deity of Lanka, యస్మాత్ I am, తే by your, విక్రమణే by your valour, నిర్జితా won, తస్మాత్ therefore, సర్వరక్షాంసి all demons, అశేషతః many, విజేతాసి will win.

'O hero! I am the presiding deity of Lanka whom you have won by your valour. Therefore you will win many demons she foretold.
తత్రాహం సర్వరాత్రం తు విచిన్వన్ జనకాత్మజామ్.

రావణాన్తఃపురగతో న చాపశ్యం సుమధ్యమామ్৷৷5.58.51৷৷


అహమ్ I am, తత్ర there, రావణాన్తఃపురగతః Ravana's harem, సర్వరాత్రమ్ all night, జనకాత్మజామ్ Janaka's daughter, విచిన్వన్ searched also, సుమధ్యమామ్ fair-waisted lady, న అపశ్యం చ and not seen.

"There when I went to the harem of Ravana and searched all night, I did not find the fair-waisted Janaka's daughter.
తత స్సీతామపశ్యంస్తు రావణస్య నివేశనే.

శోకసాగరమాసాద్య న పారముపలక్షయే৷৷5.58.52৷৷


రావణస్య Ravana's, నివేశనే residence, సీతామ్ Sita, అపశ్యంస్తు not able to find, తతః then, శోకసాగరమ్ ocean of sorrow, ఆసాద్య immersed, పారమ్ endless, న ఉపలక్షయే did not know.

"Not able to find Sita at the residence of Ravana I was immersed in an ocean of endless sorrow and did not know what to do.
శోచతా చ మయా దృష్టం ప్రాకారేణ సమావృతమ్.

కాఞ్చనేన వికృష్టేన గృహోపవనముత్తమమ్৷৷5.58.53৷৷


శోచతా worrying so, మయా by me, కాఞ్చనేన golden, వికృష్టేన long, ప్రాకారేణ boundary wall, సమావృతమ్ surrounding, ఉత్తమమ్ very splendid, గృహోపవనమ్ home garden, దృష్టమ్ seen.

"While worrying like that I saw a long golden boundary wall surrounding a splendid home garden. (upabana)
స ప్రాకారమవప్లుత్య పశ్యామి బహుపాదపమ్.

అశోకవనికామధ్యే శింశుపాపాదపో మహాన్৷৷5.58.54৷৷

తమారుహ్య చ పశ్యామి కాఞ్చనం కదలీవనమ్.


సః that, ప్రాకారమ్ boundary wall, అవప్లుత్య crossed, బహుపాదపమ్ many kinds of trees, పశ్యామి saw, అశోకవనికామధ్యే in the midst of Ashoka garden, మహాన్ huge, శింశుపాపాదపః Simsupa tree, తమ్ that, ఆరుహ్య ascended, కాఞ్చనమ్ golden, కదలీవనమ్ rows of banana plants, పశ్యామి saw.

"I crossed that boundary wall and saw many kinds of trees and in the midst of that Ashoka garden, a huge Simsupa tree. I ascended it and saw rows of banana plants.
అదూరే శింశుపావృక్షాత్పశ్యామి వరవర్ణినీమ్৷৷5.58.55৷৷

శ్యామాం కమలపత్రాక్షీముపవాసకృశాననామ్.

తదేకవాసస్సంవీతాం రజోధ్వస్తశిరోరుహామ్৷৷5.58.56৷৷

శోకసన్తాపదీనాఙ్గీం సీతాం భర్తృహితే స్థితామ్.

రాక్షసీభిర్విరూపాభిః క్రూరాభిరభిసంవృతామ్৷৷5.58.57৷৷

మాంసశోణితభక్షాభిర్వ్యాఘ్రీభిర్హరిణీమివ.


శింశుపావృక్షాత్ from the Simsupa tree, అదూరాత్ not far from there, వరవర్ణినీమ్ beautiful, శ్యామామ్ dark complexioned, కమలపత్రాక్షీమ్ with eyes like lotus petals, ఉపవాసకృశాననామ్ whose face was emaciated due to fasting, తదేకవాసఃసంవీతామ్ wearing only a single sari, రజోధ్వస్తశిరోరుహామ్ hair filled with dust, శోకసన్తాపదీనాఙ్గీమ్ pathetic-looking in grief, భర్తృహితే well wisher of husband, స్థితామ్ seated, విరూపాభిః ugly, క్రూరాభిః cruel also, మాంసశోణితభక్షాభిః who were fed with flesh and blood, రాక్షసీభిః she-demons, వ్యాఘ్రీభిః tigress, హరిణీమివ like a doe, అభిసంవృతామ్ collected around, సీతామ్ Sita, పశ్యామి I saw.

"Not far from the Simsupa tree I saw beautiful Sita, of dark complexion, with eyes like lotus petals, whose face was emaciated due to fasting, wearing only a single sari (the same one since her abduction) her locks filled with dust, pathetic looking, immersed in sorrow, meditating on her husband seated like a doe encircled by tigresses, surrounded by ugly and cruel she-demons fed on flesh and blood.
సా మయా రాక్షసీమధ్యే తర్జ్యమానా ముహుర్ముహుః৷৷5.58.58৷৷

ఏకవేణీధరా దీనా భర్తృచిన్తాపరాయణా.

భూమిశయ్యా వివర్ణాఙ్గీ పద్మినీవ హిమాగమే৷৷5.58.59৷৷

రావణాద్వినివృత్తార్థా మర్తవ్యకృతనిశ్చయా.

కథఞ్చిన్మృగశాబాక్షీ తూర్ణమాసాదితా మయా৷৷5.58.60৷৷


ముహుర్ముహుః again and again, తర్జ్యమానా intimidated, ఏకవేణీధరా wearing a single braid, దీనా miserable, భర్తృచిన్తాపరాయణా engrossed in sorrow about her husband, భూమిశయ్యా on account of lying on the bare ground, వివర్ణాఙ్గీ become pale, హిమాగమే at the onset of winter, పద్మినీవ like the lotuses, రావణాత్ by Ravana, వినివృత్తార్థామ్ not knowing the way to escape, ర్తవ్యకృన్తిశ్చయా determined to give up life, సా she, మయా by me, రాక్షసీమధ్యే in the midst of demonesses, ఆసాదితా seated, మృగశాబాక్షీ fawn-eyed, మయా by me, కథఞ్చిత్ some how, తూర్ణమ్ quickly, ఆసాదితా saw.

తాం దృష్ట్వా తాదృశీం నారీం రామపత్నీం యశస్వినీమ్.

తత్రైవ శింశుపావృక్షే పశ్యన్నహమవస్థితః৷৷5.58.61৷৷


అహమ్ I am, తాదృశీమ్ seeing her, నారీమ్ woman, యశస్వినీమ్ renowned one, తాం రామపత్నీమ్ that Rama's wife, దృష్ట్వా on seeing, తత్ర there, శింశుపావృక్షే ఏవ from the Simsupa tree only, పశ్యన్ saw, అవస్థితః stayed.

"I remained there looking on that renowned wife of Rama from the Simsupa tree.
తతో హలహలాశబ్దం కాఞ్చీనూపురమిశ్రితమ్.

శృణోమ్యధికగమ్భీరం రావణస్య నివేశనే৷৷5.58.62৷৷


తతః then, రావణస్య Ravana's, నివేశనే residence, కాఞ్చీనూపురమిశ్రితమ్ sound of jingling bells of gold, అధికగమ్భీరమ్ very majestic, హలహలాశబ్దమ్ making a loud noise, శృణోమి I heard.

"Then I heard a deep sound mixed with jingling golden girdles and anklets coming from Ravana's residence.
తతోహం పరమోద్విగ్నః స్వం రూపం ప్రత్యసంహరమ్.

అహం తు శింశుపావృక్షే పక్షీవ గహనే స్థితః৷৷5.58.63৷৷


తతః then, అహమ్ I, పరమోద్విగ్నః very scared, స్వం రూపమ్ my form, ప్రత్యసంహరమ్ contracted my body, అహం తు I also, గహనే sky, శింశుపావృక్షే in the Simsupa tree, పక్షీవ like a bird, స్థితః stood.

"I was scared and contracted my body size and stood on the Simsupa tree like a bird in the sky.
తతో రావణదారాశ్చ రావణశ్చ మహాబలః.

తం దేశం సమనుప్రాప్తా యత్ర సీతాభవత్ స్థితా৷৷5.58.64৷৷


తతః then, రావణదారాశ్చ Ravana's consorts, మహాబలః powerful, రావణశ్చ Ravana's, సీతా Sita, యత్ర there, స్థితా stood, అభవత్ came, తమ్ to her, దేశమ్ location, సమనుప్రాప్తాః reached.

"Then arrived the powerful Ravana with his consorts to that place where Sita was and stood there.
తం దృష్ట్వాథ వరారోహా సీతా రక్షోగణేశ్వరమ్.

సఙ్కుచ్యోరూస్తనౌ పీనౌ బాహుభ్యాం పరిరభ్య చ৷৷5.58.65৷৷


అథ and then, వరారోహా beautiful one, సీతా Sita, రక్షోగణేశ్వరమ్ king of demon troops, తమ్ her, దృష్ట్వా seeing, ఊరూ thighs, బాహుభ్యామ్ shoulders, సఙ్కుచ్య folded across, పీనౌ plumpy,
స్తనౌ breasts, పరిరభ్య చ covered.

"On seeing Ravana, the king of demons, beautiful Sita, full of fear hid her face and plump breasts between her thighs.
విత్రస్తాం పరమోద్విగ్నాం వీక్షమాణాం తతస్తతః.

త్రాణం కిఞ్చిదపశ్యన్తీం వేపమానాం తపస్వినీమ్৷৷5.58.66৷৷

తామువాచ దశగ్రీవస్సీతాం పరమదుఃఖితామ్.

అవాక్చిరాః ప్రపతితో బహుమన్యస్వ మామితి৷৷5.58.67৷৷


విత్రస్తామ్ full of fear, పరమోద్విగ్నామ్ very much worried, తతస్తతః here and there, వీక్షమాణామ్ looking, కిఞ్చిత్ not even one, త్రాణమ్ protector, అపశ్యన్తీమ్ not seen, వేపమానామ్ trembling, తపస్వినీమ్ one in meditation, పరమదుఃఖితామ్ very sorrowful, తాం సీతామ్ that Sita, దశగ్రీవః ten-headed, అవాక్చిరాః bending the head down, ప్రతితః trust, మామ్ me, బహుమన్యస్వ respect, ఇతి this, ఉవాచ spoke.

"Sita was full of fear and worry, looked here and there without any protector to pacify. She was trembling in fear. To that Sita, the ten-headed Ravana bent his head down and said, 'trust me and respect me'.
యది చేత్త్వం తు దర్పాన్మాం నాభినన్దసి గర్వితే.

ద్వౌ మాసావన్తరం సీతే పాస్యామి రుధిరం తవ৷৷5.58.68৷৷


గర్వితే in your pride, సీతే Sita, త్వమ్ your, దర్పాత్ with pride, మామ్ me, నాభినన్దసి యది చేత్ if you do not respect me, ద్వౌ మాసౌ అన్తరమ్ in two months time, తవ your, రుధిరమ్ blood, పాస్యామి I will see.

'O Sita! if in your pride, you do not respect me, I will see (drink) your blood in two months.
ఏతచ్ఛ్రుత్వా వచస్తస్య రావణస్య దురాత్మనః.

ఉవాచ పరమక్రుద్ధా సీతా వచనముత్తమమ్৷৷5.58.69৷৷


దురాత్మనః evil-minded one, తస్య your, రావణస్య Ravana's, ఏతత్ all these, వచః words, శ్రుత్వా hearing, సీతా Sita, పరమక్రుద్ధా very angry, ఉత్తమమ్ good, వచనమ్ these words, ఉవాచ spoke.

"Hearing the words of evil-minded Ravana, Sita became very angry and spoke these approprate words:
రాక్షసాధమ రామస్య భార్యామమితతేజసః.

ఇక్ష్వాకుకులనాథస్య స్నుషాం దశరథస్య చ৷৷5.58.70৷৷

అవాచ్యం వదతో జిహ్వా కథం న పతితా తవ.


రాక్షసాధమ lowly rakshasa, అమితతేజసః highly valourous one, రామస్య Rama's, భార్యామ్ wife, ఇక్ష్వాకుకులనాథస్య of the king of Ikshvaku race, దశరథస్య Dasaratha's, స్నుషాం చ daughter-in-law, అవాచ్యమ్ unspeakable, వదతః words, తవ your, జిహ్వా tongue, కథమ్ how, న పతితా not fallen.

'O lowly demon! I am the wife of valiant Rama and daughter-in-law of Dasaratha, the king of Ikshvaku race. How is it your tongue that spoke unspeakable words has not fallen down?
కిఞ్చిద్వీర్యం తవానార్య యో మాం భర్తురసన్నిధౌ৷৷5.58.71৷৷

అపహృత్యాగతః పాప తే నాదృష్టో మహాత్మనా.


నార్య ignoble, పాప sinner, యః such you, భర్తుః husband, అసన్నిధౌ not near, మామ్ me, అపహృత్య abducted, మహాత్మనా great, తేన by his, అదృష్టః without being seen, ఆగతః came, తవ your, వీర్యమ్ courage, కిఞ్చిత్ not have little.

'O! ignoble one! when my husband was away, you came and abducted me unseen by the great Rama. You do not have even a little courage (to win me through a straight fight).
న త్వం రామస్య సదృశో దాస్యేప్యస్య న యుజ్యసే৷৷5.58.72৷৷

యజ్ఞీయ స్సత్యవాదీ చ రణశ్లాఘీ చ రాఘవః.


త్వమ్ you, రామస్య Rama's, సదృశః not equal, న not, అస్య his, దాస్యేపి even of servant, న యుజ్యసే not fit to be, రాఘవః Rama, యజ్ఞీయః does yagnas, సత్యవాదీ always abides in truth, రణశ్లాఘీ చ and valiant in war.

'You are not equal to Rama and not even fit to be his servant. He does yagnas and always abides in truth. He is valiant in war.
జానక్యా పరుషం వాక్యమేవముక్తో దశాననః৷৷5.58.73৷৷

జజ్వాల సహసా కోపాచ్చితాస్థ ఇవ పావకః.


జానక్యా by Janaki, ఏవమ్ in that way, పరుషమ్ harsh, ఉక్తః spoken, దశాననః ten-headed one, సహసా suddenly, చితాస్థః in the funeral pyre, పావకః ఇవ like fire, కోపాత్ in anger, జజ్వాల like flame.

"Thus addressed harshly by Janaki, the ten-headed Ravana blazed up in anger suddenly like the flame of the funeral pyre.
వివృత్య నయనే క్రూరే ముష్టిముద్యమ్య దక్షిణమ్৷৷5.58.74৷৷

మైథిలీం హన్తుమారబ్ధ: స్త్రీభిర్హాహాకృతం తదా.


క్రూరే wicked, నయనే eyes, వివృత్య opened, దక్షిణమ్ right hand, ముష్టిమ్ fist, ఉద్యమ్య raised, మైథిలీమ్ Mythili, హన్తుమ్ to kill, ఆరబ్ధః started, తదా then, స్త్రీభిః even the women there, హాహాకృతమ్ raised their voice saying, alas !

"Then the wicked Ravana raised his eyebrows and his right fist to strike at Sita and even the she-demon there raised their voice saying, ' alas, alas !'
స్త్రీణాం మధ్యాత్సముత్పత్య తస్య భార్యా దురాత్మనః৷৷5.58.75৷৷

వరా మన్దోదరీ నామ తయా స ప్రతిషేధితః.


దురాత్మనః evil-minded, తస్య his, భార్యా wife, మన్దోదరీ నామ named Mandodari, వరా noble one, స్త్రీణామ్ among women, మధ్యాత్ from the midst, సముత్పత్య came, తయా forward, సః he, ప్రతిషేధితః objected.

"Evil-minded Ravana's wife Mandodari, a noble one among women came forward from the midst and prevented him.
ఉక్తశ్చ మధురాం వాణీం తయా స మదనార్దితః৷৷5.58.76৷৷

సీతయా తవ కిం కార్యం మహేన్ద్రసమవిక్రమః.


మదనార్దితః tormented by god of love, సః he, తయా such, మధురామ్ sweet, వాణీమ్ words, ఉక్తశ్చ having spoken, మహేన్ద్రసమవిక్రమః equal to Mahendra in might, సీతయా Sita, తవ your, కిం కార్యమ్ for what purpose.

"She spoke sweetly to Ravana, who was tormented by the god of love saying, 'For what purpose do you desire Sita? You are equal to Mahendra in might'.
దేవగన్ధర్వకన్యాభిర్యక్షకన్యాభిరేవ చ৷৷5.58.77৷৷

సార్ధం ప్రభో రమస్వేహ సీతయా కిం కరిష్యసి.


ప్రభో O Lord!, దేవగన్ధర్వకన్యాభిః even gods and daughters of gandharvas, యక్షకన్యాభిరేవచ even young yaksha ladies, సార్ధమ్ all, ఇహ here, రమస్వ enjoy, సీతయా with Sita, కిం కరిష్యసి why do you need.

'O lord! you enjoy with the daughters of gods, gandharvas and even the young ladies of yakshas. Why do you need Sita?'
తతస్తాభిస్సమేతాభిర్నారీభిస్స మహాబలః৷৷5.58.78৷৷

ప్రసాద్య సహసా నీతో భవనం స్వం నిశాచరః.


తతః then, మహాబలః mighty, సః నిశాచరః night-wanderer, సమేతాభిః together, తాభిః నారీభిః all the women, ప్రసాద్య sprang up, సహసా quickly, స్వం భవనమ్ his mansion, నీతః took.

"Then all the women got together and stopped the mighty night-ranger, Ravana and quickly took him back to his mansion.
యాతే తస్మిన్ దశగ్రీవే రాక్షస్యో వికృతాననాః৷৷5.58.79৷৷

సీతాం నిర్భర్త్సయామాసుర్వాక్యైః క్రూరైస్సుదారుణైః.


తస్మిన్ దశగ్రీవే when that ten-headed one, యాతే went, వికృతాననాః those ugly-faced ones, రాక్షస్యః demons, క్రూరైః cruel, సుదారుణైః frightful, వాక్యైః words, సీతామ్ to Sita, నిర్భర్త్సయామాసుః threatened.

తృణవద్భాషితం తాసాం గణయామాస జానకీ৷৷5.58.80৷৷

గర్జితం చ తదా తాసాం సీతాం ప్రాప్య నిరర్థకమ్.


జానకీ Janaki, తాసామ్ those, భాషితమ్ words, తృణవత్ like a blade of grass, గణయామాస not cared, తదా then, తాసామ్ they, గర్జితమ్ frightened, సీతామ్ Sita, ప్రాప్య uttered, నిరర్థకమ్ were of no use.

"Janaki did not care for their words of threat, as though they were a blade of grass and of no use to her.
వృథాగర్జితనిశ్చేష్టా రాక్షస్యః పిశితాశనాః৷৷5.58.81৷৷

రావణాయ శశంసుస్తాః సీతాధ్యవసితం మహత్.


పిశితాశనాః flesh eaters, తాః రాక్షస్యః those demonesses, వృథాగర్జితనిశ్చేష్టాః since their threatenings were of no use, మహత్ great, తత్ that, సీతాద్యవసితమ్ Sita's determination was
formidable, రావణాయ to Ravana, శశంసుః reported.

"Since the threatenings of the she-demons were of no use the ogresses who live on flesh and blood reported to Ravana about great Sita's formidable determination.

పరిక్షిప్య సమన్తాత్తాం నిద్రావశముపాగతాః.


తతః then, సర్వాః all, తాః those, సహితాః together, నిహతాశాః given up hope, నిరుద్యమాః given up their efforts, తామ్ they, సమన్తాత్ all over, పరిక్షిప్య scattered around, నిద్రావశమ్ to sleep, ఉపాగతాః succumbed.

"Then all of them gave up hope of their efforts and scattered around her, succumbed to sleep.
తాసు చైవ ప్రసుప్తాసు సీతా భర్తృహితే రతా৷৷5.58.83৷৷

విలప్య కరుణం దీనా ప్రశుశోచ సుదుఃఖితా.

సాధ్వీ chaste, దశరథస్య Dasaratha's, స్నుషా daughter-in-law, సీతా Sita, న వినశిష్యతి not be destroyed.

"From the midst of all of them got up Trijata, saying, 'You eat me if you like. Know that Janaka's daughter is a chaste woman and is the daughter-in-law of Dasaratha. She cannot be destroyed'.
స్వప్నో హ్యద్య మయా దృష్టో దారుణో రోమహర్షణః.

రక్షసాం చ వినాశాయ భర్తురస్యా జయాయ చ৷৷5.58.86৷৷


రక్షసామ్ rakshasas, వినాశాయ చ even destruction, అస్యాః her, భర్తుః husband's, జయాయ చ even victory, అద్య today, మయా to me, దారుణః dreadful, రోమహర్షణః horripilating experience, స్వప్నః in dream, దృష్టః saw.

'Today I saw in my dream, a dreadful and horripilating scene of destruction of demons and even victory of Sita's husband.
అలమస్మాత్పరిత్రాతుం రాఘవాద్రాక్షసీగణమ్.

అభియాచామ వైదేహీమేతద్ధి మమ రోచతే৷৷5.58.87৷৷


అస్మాత్ from that, రాఘవాత్ by Rama, రాక్షసీగణమ్ rakshasa clan, పరిత్రాతుమ్ to protect, అలమ్ enough, వైదేహీమ్ Vaidehi's, అభియాచామ will beg her, ఏతత్ by that, మమ our, రోచతే హి thinking indeed.

'To protect the demon clan from destruction by Rama, it is enough if we beg her (pardon). Indeed, I think that way.
యస్యా హ్యేవంవిధస్స్వప్నో దుఃఖితాయాః ప్రదృశ్యతే.

సా దుఃఖైర్వివిధైర్ముక్తా సుఖమాప్నోత్యనుత్తమమ్৷৷5.58.88৷৷

ప్రణిపాతప్రసన్నా హి మైథిలీ జనకాత్మజా.


యస్యాః whoever, దుఃఖితాయాః is in sorrow, ఏవం విధః in this way, స్వప్నః dream, ప్రదృశ్యతే sees, సా that, వివిధైః many, దుఃఖై grief, విముక్తా will be relieved, అనుత్తమమ్ immense, సుఖమ్ happiness, ఆప్నోతి will result, జనకాత్మజా Janaka's daughter, మైథిలీ Maithili, ప్రణిపాతప్రసన్నా హి will bless us if we pray her.

'Whoever in a sorrowful state sees such kind of dream, would be not only relieved of all sorrows but will experience immense happiness. Janaka's daughter Sita will bless us with protection if we pray her.
తతస్సా హ్రీమతీ బాలా భర్తుర్విజయహర్షితా৷৷5.58.89৷৷

అవోచద్యది తత్తథ్యం భవేయం శరణం హి వః.


తతః then, హ్రీమతీ bashful, బాలా young, సా that Sita, భర్తుః husband, విజయహర్షితా feeling happy that he will succeed, అవోచత్ hearing the words, తత్ that, తథ్యం యది comes true, వః thee, శరణమ్ protect, భవేయమ్ I will.

'On hearing the words (of Trijata) that 'Rama will succeed', young and bashful Sita felt happy and said that 'If it comes true I will protect thee'.
తాం చాహం తాదృశీం దృష్ట్వా సీతాయా దారుణాం దశామ్.

చిన్తయామాస విక్రాన్తో న చ మే నిర్వృతం మనః৷৷5.58.90৷৷


అహమ్ I, విక్రాన్తః heroic, సీతాయాః Sita, తాదృశీమ్ seeing her deplorable state, తామ్ her, దారుణామ్ dreadful, దశామ్ state, దృష్ట్వా on seeing, చిన్తయామాస started worrying, మే myself, మనః in mind, న నిర్వృతమ్ not had peace.

"Seeing Sita's deplorable state, her ill-luck and her dread, I began to worry and had no peace of mind.
సమ్భాషణార్థం చ మయా జానక్యాశ్చిన్తితో విధిః৷৷5.58.91৷৷

ఇక్ష్వాకూణాం హి వంశస్తు తతో మమ పురస్కృతః.


మయా I am, జానక్యాః with Janaki, సమ్భాషణార్థమ్ to enter into conversation, విధి strategy, చిన్తితః thought, తతః that, ఇక్ష్వాకూణామ్ in Ikshvaku, వంశస్తు in the race, మమ my, పురస్కృతః to praise.

"I thought of a strategy to enter into conversation with Janaki that is to praise the Ikshvaku race.
శ్రుత్వా తు గదితాం వాచం రాజర్షిగణపూజితామ్৷৷5.58.92৷৷

ప్రత్యభాషత మాం దేవీ బాష్పైః పిహితలోచనా.


దేవీ the divine lady!, రాజర్షిగణపూజితామ్ sanctified by the names of royal seers, గదితామ్ enumerated, వాచమ్ words, శ్రుత్వా heard, బాష్పైః tears, పిహితలోచనా eyes blinded, మామ్ me, ప్రత్యభాషత replied.

"The divine lady heard my enumeration, sanctifying the royal seers. She replied me, with her eyes blinded by tears:
కస్త్వం కేన కథం చేహ ప్రాప్తో వానరపుఙ్గవః৷৷5.58.93৷৷

కా చ రామేణ తే ప్రీతిస్తన్మే శంసితుమర్హసి.


వానరపుఙ్గవ foremost of vanaras, త్వమ్ you, కః who, కేన why, కథమ్ how, ఇహ here, ప్రాప్తః could come, తే to you, రామేణ with Rama, ప్రీతిః friendship, కా tell, తత్ that, మే to me, శంసితుమ్ in detail, అర్హసి it is prpoer.

"O foremost of vanaras! who are you? Why and how have you come here? How did you make friendship with Rama? Tell me all that in detail.

దేవి రామస్య భర్తుస్తే సహాయో భీమవిక్రమః.

సుగ్రీవో నామ విక్రాన్తో వానరేన్ద్రో మహాబలః৷৷5.58.95৷৷

భర్త్రాహం ప్రేషితస్తుభ్యం రామేణాక్లిష్టకర్మణా৷৷5.58.96৷৷


ఇహ here, ఆగతమ్ I came, మామ్ me, తస్య his, భృత్యమ్ servant, త్వమ్ you, విద్ధి to find, అహమ్ I, భర్త్రా by your husband, అక్లిష్టకర్మణా tireless in action, రామేణ by Rama, తుభ్యమ్ for your sake, ప్రేషితః sent me.

'I came here as a servant sent by your tireless husband to find you.
ఇదం చ పురుషవ్యాఘ్రః శ్రీమాన్ దాశరథిః స్వయమ్.

అఙ్గులీయమభిజ్ఞానమదాత్తుభ్యం యశస్విని৷৷5.58.97৷৷


యశస్విని O glorious lady!, పురుషవ్యాఘ్రః tiger among men, శ్రీమాన్ illustrious, దాశరథిః Dasaratha's son, స్వయమ్ himself, ఇదమ్ this, అఙ్గులీయమ్ this ring, తుభ్యమ్ to you, అభిజ్ఞానమ్ to recognise, అదాత్ sent.

'O glorious lady! the tiger among men, the illustrious son of Dasaratha himself sent this ring to you as a taken of identity.
తదిచ్ఛామి త్వయాజ్ఞప్తం దేవి కిం కరవాణ్యహమ్.

రామలక్ష్మణయోః పార్శ్వం నయామి త్వాం కిముత్తరమ్৷৷5.58.98৷৷


దేవి O venerable lady!, తత్ that, త్వయా by your, ఆజ్ఞప్తమ్ order, ఇచ్ఛామి wish to know, అహమ్ I, కిమ్ what, కరవాణి to do, త్వామ్ you, రామలక్ష్మణయోః both Rama and Lakshmana, పార్శ్వమ్ to them, నయామి take you, ఉత్తరమ్ back, కిమ్ what do you say?

'O venerable lady! I seek your order. What should I do? Should I take you to Rama and Lakshmana? What do you say?
ఏతచ్ఛ్రుత్వా విదిత్వా చ సీతా జనకనన్దినీ.

ఆహరావణముత్సాద్య రాఘవో మాం నయత్వితి৷৷5.58.99৷৷


జనకనన్దినీ delight of Janaka, సీతా Sita, ఏతత్ all this, శ్రుత్వా having heard, విదిత్త్వా చ thought over, రాఘవః Rama, రావణమ్ Ravana, ఉత్సాద్య slaying, మామ్ me, నయతు should take, ఇతి this, ఆహ she said.

"Having heard all that (Hanuman said) Sita, the delight of Janaka thought over and said, 'Rama should kill Ravana and take me'.
ప్రణమ్య శిరసా దేవీం మహమార్యామనిన్దితామ్.

రాఘవస్య మనోహ్లాదమభిజ్ఞానమయాచిషమ్৷৷5.58.100৷৷


అహమ్ I am, ఆర్యామ్ noble, అనిన్దితామ్ flawless, దేవీమ్ queen, శిరసా bowing, ప్రణమ్య saluted, రాఘవస్య to Rama, మనోహ్లాదమ్ very pleasing to his mind, అభిజ్ఞానమ్ to recognise, అయాచిషమ్ signet.

"Then bowing down I saluted the noble and blameless queen Sita to give a signet, which would be very pleasing to Rama.
అథ మామబ్రవీత్సీతా గృహ్యతామయముత్తమః.

మణిర్యేన మహాబాహూ రామస్త్వాం బహుమన్యతే৷৷5.58.101৷৷


అథ and then, సీతా Sita, మామ్ to me, అబ్రవీత్ said, ఉత్తమః best, అయమ్ this, మణిః gem, గృహ్యతామ్ take, యేన by this, మహాబాహుః long-armed, రామః Rama, త్వామ్ you, బహుమన్యతే presented to him.

"Sita then said to me, 'Take this best of gems and present it to the long-armed Rama as a token'.
ఇత్యుక్త్వా తు వరారోహా మణిప్రవరమద్భుతమ్.

ప్రాయచ్ఛత్పరమోద్విగ్నా వాచా మాం సన్దిదేశహ৷৷5.58.102৷৷


వరారోహా fair-hipped lady, ఇతి thus, ఉక్త్వా having delivered, అద్భుతమ్ wonderful, మణిప్రవరమ్ excellent jewel, ప్రాయచ్ఛత్ gave, పరమోద్విగ్నా in an anxious state, మామ్ me, వాచా spoke, సన్దిదేశ హ message.

"Having said so, the noble lady delivered a wonderful jewel with supreme message to me in a sorrowful mood.
తతస్తస్యై ప్రణమ్యాహం రాజపుత్ర్యై సమాహితః.

ప్రదక్షిణం పరిక్రామమిహాభ్యుద్గతమానసః৷৷5.58.103৷৷


తతః then, అహమ్ I, తస్యై her, రాజపుత్ర్యై princess, ప్రణమ్య saluted, సమాహితః with focused mind, ఇహ here, అభ్యుద్గతమానసః should come soon, ప్రదక్షిణమ్ circumambulated, పరిక్రామమ్ went round.

"Reminded by her again (that Rama should turn up soon to take her), I offered reverential salutations by circumambulating her.
ఉక్తోహం పునరేవేదం నిశ్చిత్య మనసా తయా.

హనుమన్మమ వృత్తాన్తం వక్తుమర్హసి రాఘవే৷৷5.58.104৷৷

సుగ్రీవసహితౌ వీరావుపేయాతాం తథా కురు৷৷5.58.105৷৷


వీరౌ heroic one, తౌ they both, రామలక్ష్మణౌ Rama and Lakshmana, ఉభౌ both, శ్రుత్వైవ on hearing, సుగ్రీవసహితౌ accompanied by Sugriva, న చిరాత్ not very late, యథా that way, ఉపేయాతామ్ coming here, తథా that way, కురు you may do.

'O heroic Hanuman! narrate in such a way that by hearing you both Rama and Lakshmana will come here soon, accompanied by Sugriva.
యద్యన్యథా భవేదేతద్ద్వౌ మాసౌ జీవితం మమ.

న మాం ద్రక్ష్యతి కాకుత్స్థో మ్రియే సాహమనాథవత్৷৷5.58.106৷৷


అన్యథా otherwise, భవేద్యది with none to protect, మమ I, జీవితమ్ life, ద్వౌ two, మాసౌ months only, కాకుత్స్థ to Rama, మామ్ me, న ద్రక్ష్యతి not see, సా అహమ్ that I, అనాథవత్ like an orphan, మ్రియే will die.

'Otherwise with none to protect me, I will live only for two months.I will die like an orphan and he will not see me'.
తచ్ఛ్రుత్వా కరుణం వాక్యం క్రోధో మామభ్యవర్తత.

ఉత్తరం చ మయా దృష్టం కార్యశేషమనన్తరమ్৷৷5.58.107৷৷

యుద్ధకాఙ్క్షీ వనం తచ్చ వినాశయితుమారభే৷৷5.58.108৷৷


తతః that, తదా then, మే I, కాయః body, పర్వతసన్నిభః like a mountain, అవర్ధత increased, యుద్ధకాఙ్క్షీ intent on fighting, తత్ that, వనమ్ garden, వినాశయితుమ్ to destroy, ఆరభే started.

"Thereafter, I increased my body to the size of a mountain, intent on fighting and started destroying the pleasure garden.
తద్భగ్నం వనషణ్డం తు భ్రాన్తత్రస్తమృగద్విజమ్.

ప్రతిబుద్ధా నిరీక్షన్తే రాక్షస్యో వికృతాననాః৷৷5.58.109৷৷


వికృతాననాః ugly-faced, రాక్షస్యః ogresses, ప్రతిబుద్ధాః woke up and saw, భగ్నమ్ broken, భ్రాన్తత్రస్తమృగద్విజమ్ terrified birds and beasts, తత్ that, వనషణ్డమ్ destroyed garden, నిరీక్షన్తే saw.

"Those ugly-faced ogresses woke up and saw the devastated garden and terrified beasts and birds.
మాం చ దృష్ట్వా వనే తస్మిన్ సమాగమ్య తతస్తతః.

తా స్సమభ్యాగతాః క్షిప్రం రావణాయాచచక్షిరే৷৷5.58.110৷৷

'O powerful king! an evil-minded vanara has destroyed the inaccessible pleasure garden not knowing your valour.
దుర్బుద్ధేస్తస్య రాజేన్ద్ర తవ విప్రియకారిణః.

వధమాజ్ఞాపయ క్షిప్రం యథాసౌ విలయం వ్రజేత్৷৷5.58.112৷৷


రాజేన్ద్ర O king!, అసౌ యథా this, విలయమ్ aimlessly, వ్రజేత్ wanderer, తవ your, విప్రియకారిణః who has done contrary to your interest, దుర్బుధ్దేః wicked-minded, తస్య his, వధమ్ to kill, క్షిప్రమ్ immediately, ఆజ్ఞాపయ order.

'O king! may orders be issued to kill this wicked-minded vanara wandering aimlessly. He has done contrary to your interest.
తచ్ఛ్రుత్వా రాక్షసేన్ద్రేణ విసృష్టా భృశదుర్జయాః.

రాక్షసాః కిఙ్కరా నామ రావణస్య మనోనుగాః৷৷5.58.113৷৷


తత్ that, శ్రుత్వా having heard, రాక్షసేన్ద్రేణ by the lord of demons, భృశదుర్జయాః who are invincible, రావణస్య Ravana's, మనోనుగాః those who know his mind, కిఙ్కరా నామ called kinkara, రాక్షసాః demon, విసృష్టాః sent.

"Ravana, lord of the demons having heard (the ogresses) sent invincible ogres called kinkaras who know his mind.
తేషామశీతిసాహస్రం శూలముద్గరపాణినామ్.

మయా తస్మిన్వనోద్దేశే పరిఘేణ నిషూదితమ్৷৷5.58.114৷৷


తస్మిన్ those, వనోద్ధేశే near the garden, శూలముద్గరపాణినామ్ tridents and maces, తేషామ్ with them, అశీతిసాహస్రమ్ battalion of eighty thousand (demons), మయా by me, పరిఘేణ by iron bar, నిషూదితమ్ killed.

"I killed with an iron bar a battalion of eighty thousand demons who were guarding the garden with tridents and maces.
తేషాం తు హతశేషా యే తే గత్వా లఘువిక్రమాః.

నిహతం చ మహత్సైన్యం రావణాయాచచక్షిరే৷৷5.58.115৷৷

తతో మే బుద్ధిరుత్పన్నా చైత్యప్రాసాదమాక్రమమ్.

తత్రస్థాన్రాక్షసాన్ హత్వా శతం స్తమ్భేన వై పునః৷৷5.58.116৷৷

లలామభూతో లఙ్కాయాస్స వై విధ్వంసితో మయా.


తతః then, మే I, బుద్ధిః intellect, ఉత్పన్నా arose, చైత్యప్రాసాదమ్ high rise mansion, ఆక్రమమ్ taking hold, స్తమ్భేన with a pillar, తత్రస్థాన్ stationed there, శతమ్ a hundred, రాక్షసాన్ demons, హత్వా killed, పునః again, మయా by me, లఙ్కాయాః in Lanka, లలామభూతః a decorative mansion, సః that, విధ్వంసితః destroyed.

"Then a thought struck my mind. I took hold of a pillar of the tall, decorated mansion of Lanka and killed with it all the hundred demons stationed there.
తతః ప్రహస్తస్య సుతం జమ్బుమాలినమాదిశత్৷৷5.58.117৷৷

రాక్షసైర్బహుభిస్సార్ధం ఘోరరూపైర్భయానకైః.


తతః then, ఘోరరూపైః of terrific appearance, భయానకైః frightening, బహుభిః many, రాక్షసైః ogres, సార్ధమ్ together with, ప్రహస్తస్య Prahasta's, సుతమ్ son, జమ్బుమాలినమ్ Jambumali, ఆదిశత్ ordered

తం మహాబలసమ్పన్నం రాక్షసం రణకోవిదమ్৷৷5.58.118৷৷

పరిఘేణాతిఘోరేణ సూదయామి సహానుగమ్.


మహాబలసమ్పన్నమ్ endowed with mighty strength, రణకోవిదమ్ expert in war, సహానుగమ్ and others who accompanied, తం రాక్షసమ్ the demons, ఘోరేణ by a terrific, పరిఘేణ with iron bar, సూదయామి slayed.

"With a dreadful iron bar I slayed Jambumali, who was endowed with mighty strength, and was an expert in war and other terrific ogres who accompanied him.
తచ్ఛ్రుత్వా రాక్షసేన్ద్రస్తు మన్త్రిపుత్త్రాన్మహాబలాన్৷৷5.58.119৷৷

పదాతిబలసమ్పన్నాన్ ప్రేషయామాస రావణః.


రాక్షసేన్ద్రః demon king, రావణః Ravana, మహాబలాన్ mighty army, పదాతిబలసమ్పన్నాన్ strong foot-soldiers, మన్త్రిపుత్రాన్ sons of ministers, ప్రేషయామాస sent.

"Ravana, the demon king sent his mighty army of strong foot-soldiers, the sons of ministers.
పరిఘేణైవ తాన్ సర్వాన్నయామి యమసాదనమ్৷৷5.58.120৷৷

మన్త్రిపుత్త్రాన్హతాన్చ్ఛృత్వా సమరేలఘువిక్రమాన్.

పఞ్చ సేనాగ్రగాచ్ఛ్రూరాన్ప్రేషయామాస రావణః৷৷5.58.121৷৷


తాన్ సర్వాన్ all of them, పరిఘేణైవ with iron bar only, యమసాదనమ్ the abode of Yama, నయామి sent, రావణః Ravana, సమరే in combat, లఘువిక్రమాన్ less valiant, మన్త్రిపుత్రాన్ sons of ministers, హతాన్ having been killed, శ్రుత్వా heard, శూరాన్ heroes, పఞ్చ five, సేనాగ్రగాన్ army generals, ప్రేషయామాస sent.

"I sent all of them to the abode of Yama with just an iron bar. Having heard about the death of the less powerful ones, Ravana sent five heroic army generals.
తానహం సహసైన్యాన్వై సర్వానేవాభ్యసూదయమ్.

తతః పునర్దశగ్రీవః పుత్రమక్షం మహాబలమ్৷৷5.58.122৷৷

బహుభీ రాక్షసైస్సార్ధం ప్రేషయామాస రావణః.


అహమ్ I, సహసైన్యాన్ along with the army, తాన్ సర్వాన్ all of them, అభ్యసూదయమ్ having been killed, తతః then, దశగ్రీవః ten-headed, రావణః Ravana, మహాబలమ్ mighty, పుత్రమ్ son, అక్షమ్ Aksha, బహుభిః and many, రాక్షసైః demons, సార్ధమ్ together with, ప్రేషయామాస sent out.

"Since I killed all of them along with the army, the ten-headed Ravana sent out his mighty son Aksha together with many demons.
తం తు మన్దోదరీపుత్త్రం కుమారం రణపణ్డితమ్৷৷5.58.123৷৷

సహసా ఖం సముత్క్రాన్తం పాదయోశ్చ గృహీతవాన్.

చర్మాసినం శతగుణం భ్రామయిత్వా వ్యపేషయమ్৷৷5.58.124৷৷


రణపణ్డితమ్ expert in war, మన్దోదరీపుత్త్రమ్ Mandodari's son, ఖమ్ to the sky, ఉత్క్రాన్తమ్ risen up, చర్మాసినమ్ feet, తం కుమారమ్ of that young man, సహసా at once, పాదయోః both feet, గృహీతవాన్ caught hold of, శతగుణమ్ hundred times, భ్రామయిత్వా whirled him round, వ్యవేషయమ్ smashed.

"When Mandodari's son, an expert in war had risen up to the sky I caught his feet and whirled him round a hundred times and smashed him.
తమక్షమాగతం భగ్నం నిశమ్య స దశాననః.

తత ఇన్ద్రజితం నామ ద్వితీయం రావణస్సుతమ్৷৷5.58.125৷৷

వ్యాదిదేశ సుసంకృద్ధో బలినమ్ యుద్ధదుర్మదమ్.


దశాననః ten-faced, సః రావణః that Ravana, ఆగతమ్ gone, అక్షమ్ of Aksha, భగ్నమ్ destroyed, నిశమ్య after hearing, సుసంకృద్ధః became very angry, తతః then, బలినమ్ strong, యుద్ధదుర్మదమ్ thirsting for war, ఇన్ద్రజితం నామ named Indrajit, ద్వితీయమ్ second, సుతమ్ son, వ్యాదిదేశ gave instruction.

"When Aksha was done to death, the ten-faced Ravana was enraged and gave instruction to the second son, called Indrajit who was thirsting for war.
తచ్చాప్యహం బలం సర్వం తం చ రాక్షసపుఙ్గవమ్৷৷5.58.126৷৷

నష్టౌజసం రణే కృత్వా పరం హర్షముపాగమమ్.


అహమ్ I, సర్వమ్ all, తత్ that, బలం చ even army, తమ్ them, రాక్షసపుఙ్గవం చ even the army chiefs, రణే in combat, నష్టౌజసమ్ having been destroyed, కృత్వా done, పరమ్ very, హర్షమ్ happy, ఉపాగమమ్ became.

"When the army and even the Generals were done to death in combat I was very happy.
మహతాపి మహాబాహుః ప్రత్యయేన మహాబలః৷৷5.58.127৷৷

ప్రేషితో రావణేనైవ సహ వీరైర్మదోత్కటైః.


మహాబాహుః strong-armed, మహాబలః mighty, మదోత్కటైః intoxicated, వీరైః సహ including the warriors, రావణేనైవ Ravana's confidence, మహతా great, ప్రత్యయేన again,ప్రేషితః sent.

"Thinking that Indrajit will surely kill me, the strong-armed mighty Ravana again sent intoxicated demon warriors.
సోవిషహ్యం హి మాం బుద్ధ్వా స్వం బలం చావమర్దితమ్৷৷5.58.128৷৷

బ్రాహ్మణాస్త్రేణ స తు మాం ప్రాబధ్నాచ్ఛాతివేగితః.


సః he, మామ్ my, ఆవిషహ్యమ్ cannot be slain, బుద్ధ్వా knowing, స్వమ్ his, బలం చ strength, అవమర్దితమ్ is reduced, స తు that, అతివేగితః with high speed, మామ్ at me, బ్రాహ్మేణ అస్త్రేణ Brahma's weapon, ప్రాబధ్నాత్ captured.

"Realising that I cannot be slain and that his (Indrajit's) power is reduced, he released Brahma's weapon on me with high speed and captured me.
రజ్జుభిశ్చాభిబధ్నన్తి తతో మాం తత్ర రాక్షసాః৷৷5.58.129৷৷

రావణస్య సమీపం చ గృహీత్వా మాముపానయన్.


తతః then, తత్ర there, రాక్షసాః demons, మామ్ me, రజ్జుభిః with ropes, అభిబధ్నన్తి also bound, మామ్ me, గృహీత్వా holding, రావణస్య to Ravana, సమీపమ్ near, ఉపానయన్ brought.

"Then the demons bound me with ropes and brought me to Ravana.
దృష్ట్వా సమ్భాషితశ్చాహం రావణేన దురాత్మనా৷৷5.58.130৷৷

పృష్టశ్చ లఙ్కాగమనం రాక్షసానాం చ తం వధమ్.


అహమ్ I, దురాత్మనా wicked-minded, రావణేన by Ravana, దృష్ట్వా on seeing, సమ్బాషితశ్చ conversed, లఙ్కాగమనమ్ about my coming to Lanka, రాక్షసానామ్ ogres, తమ్ them, వధమ్ killing, పృష్టశ్చ enquired.

"The wicked-minded Ravana, then enquired me why I came to Lanka and why I killed the demons.
తత్సర్వం చ మయా తత్ర సీతార్థమితి జల్పితమ్৷৷5.58.131৷৷

అస్యాహం దర్శనాకాఙ్క్షీ ప్రాప్తస్త్వద్భవనం విభో.

మారుతస్యౌరసః పుత్రో వానరో హనుమానహమ్৷৷5.58.132৷৷


తత్ that, సర్వమ్ entire, సీతార్థమితి for Sita's sake, మయా I am, తత్ర there, జల్పితమ్ burnt, విభో O king, అస్యాః your, దర్శనకాఙ్క్షీ desiring to see her, త్వద్భవనమ్ your mansion, ప్రాప్తః
reached, అహమ్ I, మారుతస్య Wind-god's, ఔరసః పుత్రః legitimate son, వానరః vanara, హనుమాన్ Hanuman.

'I have done all this for the sake of Sita, O demon king! I came to your mansion desiring to see Sita. I am the legitimate son of Wind-god. My name is Hanuman.
రామదూతం చ మాం విద్ధి సుగ్రీవసచివం కపిమ్.

సోహం దూత్యేన రామస్య త్వత్సకాశమిహాగతః৷৷5.58.133৷৷


కపిమ్ I am a vanara, మామ్ I am, రామదూతమ్ messenger of Rama, సుగ్రీవసచివమ్ minister of Sugriva, విద్ధి you may know, సః అహమ్ that I, రామస్య Rama's, దూత్యేన as messenger, త్వత్సకాశమ్ to convey that message, ఇహ here, ఆగతః came.

'I am a vanara, a messenger of Rama and minister of Sugriva.You may know that I have come here to convey the message of Rama to you.
సుగ్రీవశ్చ మహాతేజాస్సత్వాం కుశలమబ్రవీత్.

ధర్మార్థకామసహితం హితం పథ్యమువాచ చ৷৷5.58.134৷৷


మహాతేజాః highly powerful, సః సుగ్రీవశ్చ Sugriva, త్వామ్ to you, కుశలమ్ welfare, అబ్రవీత్ enquires, ధర్మార్థకామసహితమ్ in accordance with dharma, wealth and well-being, పథ్యమ్ that which provides, హితమ్ beneficial advice, ఉవాచ sent.

'Highly powerful Sugriva enquires your welfare. He sends beneficial advice to you for your righteousness, pleasures and well-being.
వసతో ఋశ్యమూకే మే పర్వతే విపులద్రుమే.

రాఘవో రణవిక్రాన్తో మిత్త్రత్వం సముపాగతః৷৷5.58.135৷৷


విపులద్రుమే filled with plenty of trees, ఋశ్యమూకే Rshyamuka, వసతః dwelling, మే I, రణవిక్రాన్తః skilled in war, రాఘవః Rama, మిత్త్రత్వమ్ friendship, ఉపాగతః was made.

'While I was dwelling at the wooded-mountain in Rshyamuka, a treaty of friendship was made with Rama, who is skilled in war.
తేన మే కథితం రాజ్ఞా భార్యా మే రక్షసా హృతా.

తత్ర సాహాయ్యమస్మాకం కార్యం సర్వాత్మనా త్వయా৷৷5.58.136৷৷


రాజ్ఞా the king, తేన by him, మే to me, కథితమ్ revealed, మే భార్యా my wife, రక్షసా by the demon, హృతా abducted, తత్ర there, త్వయా by your, సర్వాత్మనా by all ways, అస్మాకమ్ by you, సాహాయ్యమ్ help, కార్యమ్ do.

'The king said, ' My wife was abducted by a demon. I request your help by all means to get her'.
మయా చ కథితం తస్మై వాలినశ్చ వధం ప్రతి.

తత్ర సాహాయ్యహేతోర్మే సమయం కర్తుమర్హసి৷৷5.58.137৷৷


మయా చ I also, వాలినః Vali, వధం ప్రతి will kill in turn, తస్మై your, కథితమ్ story, తత్ర thereupon, మే to me, సహాయ్యహేతోః will help, సమయమ్ agreement, కర్తుమ్ will do (said), అర్హసి is proper.

'Sugriva told the story of Vali in turn and asked for his help and to make agreement to kill Vali.
వాలినా హృతరాజ్యేన సుగ్రీవేణ మహాప్రభుః.

చక్రేగ్నిసాక్షికం సఖ్యం రాఘవస్సహ లక్ష్మణః৷৷5.58.138৷৷


మహాప్రభుః that great lord, సహ లక్ష్మణః accompanied by Lakshmana, రాఘవః Rama, వాలినా Vali, హృతరాజ్యేన kingdom usurped, సుగ్రీవేణ by Sugriva, అగ్నిసాక్షికమ్ in the presence of fire as witness, సఖ్యమ్ ally, చక్రే made.

With fire as witness the great lord, Rama along with Lakshmana made friendship with Sugriva whose kingdom had been usurped.
తేన వాలినముత్పాట్య శరేణైకేన సంయుగే.

వానరాణాం మహారాజః కృతస్స ప్లవతాం ప్రభుః৷৷5.58.139৷৷


తేన and then, సంయుగే in the combat, ఏకేన with a single, శరేణ arrow, వాలినమ్ Vali, ఉత్పాట్య slayed, ప్లవతామ్ for vanaras, ప్రభుః king, సః he, వానరాణామ్ vanaras, మహారాజః lord, కృతః did.

'In the combat Rama killed Vali with a single arrow and made Sugriva the king of vanaras.
తస్య సాహాయ్యమస్మాభిః కార్యం సర్వాత్మనా త్విహ.

తేన ప్రస్థాపితస్తుభ్యం సమీపమిహ ధర్మతః৷৷5.58.140৷৷


ఇహ here, అస్మాభిః we also, సర్వాత్మనా all of us, తస్య to him, సహాయ్యమ్ help, కార్యమ్ in this task, తేన so, తుభ్యమ్ surely, సమీపమ్ to you, ధర్మతః righteously, ప్రస్థాపితః sent to convey the message.

'We too have to help him in this task. So a message is sent to you on righteous grounds.
క్షిప్రమానీయతాం సీతా దీయతాం రాఘవాయ చ.

యావన్న హరయో వీరా విధమన్తి బలం తవ৷৷5.58.141৷৷


వీరాః heroic, హరయః vanaras, తవ your, బలమ్ army, యావత్ entire, న విధమన్తి before exterminating your army, సీతా Sita, క్షిప్రమ్ at once, ఆనీయతామ్ get, రాఘవాయ to Rama, దీయతాం చ you may give.

'Before the heroic vanaras exterminate your entire army, return Sita at once to Rama.
వానరాణాం ప్రభావో హి న కేన విదితః పురా.

దేవతానాం సఙ్కాశం చ యే గచ్ఛన్తి నిమన్త్రితాః৷৷5.58.142৷৷


యే who, నిమన్త్రితాః summoned to, దేవతానామ్ even devatas, సఙ్కాశమ్ for the help, గచ్ఛన్తి పురా earlier, వానరాణామ్ by the vanaras, ప్రభావః power, కేన who, న విదితః does not know.

'Who knows not the power of Vanaras in the past? Even gods had sought their help.
ఇతి వానరరాజస్త్వామాహేత్యభిహితో మయా.

మామైక్షత తతః క్రుద్ధశ్చక్షుషా ప్రదహన్నివ৷৷5.58.143৷৷


ఇతి this, వానరరాజః king of vanaras, త్వామ్ to you, ఆహ to tell, ఇతి this, మయా my, అభిహితః wishing your welfare, తతః that, క్రుద్ధః angrily, చక్షుషా eyes, ప్రదహన్నివ as if to burn, మామ్ at me, ఐక్షత looked.

'This I was asked to tell you by the king of vanaras wishing your welfare'. 'Ravana then angrily looked at me as if to burn me.
తేన వధ్యోహమాజ్ఞప్తో రక్షసా రౌద్రకర్మణా.

మత్ప్రభావమవిజ్ఞాయ రావణేన దురాత్మనా৷৷5.58.144৷৷


రౌద్రకర్మణా one who performs dreadful actions, రక్షసా by the demon, దురాత్మనా evil-minded one, తేన రావణేన by that Ravana, మత్ప్రభావమ్ my power, అవిజ్ఞాయ not knowing, అహమ్ I, వధ్యః to kill, ఆజ్ఞప్తః ordered.

"The evil-minded demon, Ravana, who perpetrates dreadful acts ordered my slaughter, not knowing my power.
తతో విభీషణో నామ తస్య భ్రాతా మహామతిః.

తేన రాక్షసరాజోసౌ యాచితో మమ కారణాత్৷৷5.58.145৷৷


విభీషణో నామ named Vibhishana, మహామతిః very pious, తస్య his, భ్రాతా brother, తతః then, తేన him, అసౌ was there, రాక్షసరాజః demon king, మమ కారణాత్ on account of me, యాచితః solicited.

"Vibhisana, a very pious brother of the demon king, interceded on my behalf.
నైవం రాక్షసశార్దూల త్యజ్యతామేష నిశ్చయః.

రాజశాస్త్రవ్యపేతో హి మార్గః సంసేవ్యతే త్వయా৷৷5.58.146৷৷


రాక్షసశార్దూల tiger among demons, ఏవమ్ in that way, న not, ఏషః that way, నిశ్చయః decision, త్యజ్యతామ్ give up, రాజశాస్త్రవ్యపేతః according to science of royal polity, మార్గః course, త్వయా by you, సంసేవ్యతే హి indeed not permitted.

"Vibhishana, a tiger among demons, asked Ravana to give up his decision as it was a forbidden course according to the science of royal polity.
దూతవధ్యా న దృష్టా హి రాజశాస్త్రేషు రాక్షస.

దూతేన వేదితవ్యం చ యథార్థం హితవాదినా৷৷5.58.147৷৷


రాక్షస demon, రాజశాస్త్రేషు by the royal code, దూతవధ్యా killing of emissary, న దృష్టా హి not seen indeed, హితవాదినా well-wisher, దూతేన messenger, యథార్థమ్ truth, వేదితవ్యమ్ has to convey.

'The royal code prohibits the murder of an emissary. A well-wishing emissary should convey the truth.
సుమహత్యపరాధేపి దూతస్యాతులవిక్రమః.

విరూపకరణం దృష్టం న వధోస్తీతి శాస్త్రతః৷৷5.58.148৷৷


అతులవిక్రమః one of immeasureable courage, సుమహతి any kind, అపరాధేపి harm done, దూతస్య at emissary, విరూపకరణమ్ may be mutilated, దృష్టమ్ seen, శాస్త్రతః in the sastras,వధః killing,నాస్తి not there.

'O Ravana of immeasurable courage! even if the emissary has done any kind of harm he may be mutilated but not murdered. Nowhere do the sastras allow killing (of an ambassador).
విభీషణేనైవముక్తో రావణస్సన్దిదేశ తాన్.

రాక్షసానేతదేవాస్య లాఙ్గూలం దహ్యతామితి৷৷5.58.149৷৷


విభీషణేన by Vibhishana, ఏవమ్ in that way, ఉక్తః having spoken, రావణః Ravana, అస్య his, ఏతత్ all that, లాఙ్గూలమ్ tail, దహ్యతామితి to burn, తాన్ రాక్షసాన్ to the demons, సన్దిదేశ instructed.

'On hearing Vibhishana, Ravana instructed the demons to burn my tail.
తతస్తస్య వచః శ్రుత్వా మమ పుచ్ఛం సమన్తతః.

వేష్టితం శణవల్కైశ్చ జీర్ణైః కార్పాసజైః పటైః৷৷5.58.150৷৷


తతః then, తస్య those, వచః words, శ్రుత్వా having heard, మమ my, పుచ్ఛమ్ tail, సమన్తతః all of them together, శణవల్కైః saris made of fibre, జీర్ణైః tattered, కార్పాసజైః of cotton, పటైః rags, వేష్టితమ్ wrapped.

"Having heard the king's words, all the demons collected and held my tail, wrapped it with saris of fibres and tattered rags of cotton.
రాక్షసాః సిద్ధసన్నాహాస్తతస్తే చణ్డవిక్రమాః.

తదాదహ్యన్త మే పుచ్ఛం నిఘ్నన్త: కాష్ఠముష్టిభిః৷৷5.58.151৷৷

బద్ధస్య బహుభిః పాశైర్యన్త్రితస్య చ రాక్షసైః.


తతః then, సిద్ధసన్నాహాః got ready, చణ్డవిక్రమాః who had terrific courage, రాక్షసాః demons, కాష్ఠముష్టిభిః with firesticks and fists, నిఘ్నన్తః hit, బహుభిః many, పాశైః ropes, బద్ధస్య tied, రాక్షసైః by the demons, యన్త్రితస్య fastened, మే me, పుచ్ఛమ్ tail, తదా then, అదహ్యన్త set fire.

"Many ferociously courageous demons got ready. They bound me and hit me with fire-sticks and fists. They fastened my tail with ropes and set in on fire.
తతస్తే రాక్షసాశ్శూరా బద్ధం మామగ్నిసంవృతమ్৷৷5.58.152৷৷

అఘోషయన్రాజమార్గే నగరద్వారమాగతాః.


తతః then, శూరాః courageous, రాక్షసాః by demons, నగరద్వారమ్ gate of the city, ఆగతాః took, బద్ధమ్ bound, అగ్నిసంవృతమ్ set on fire, మామ్ me, రాజమార్గే in the royal street, అఘోషయన్ announced loudly.

"The brave demons took me round the city through the royal streets and announced loudly to let every one know that I am bound and that my tail has been set on fire.
తతోహం సుమహద్రూపం సంక్షిప్య పునరాత్మనః৷৷5.58.153৷৷

విమోచయిత్వా తం బన్ధం ప్రకృతిస్థః స్థితః పునః.

ఆయసం పరిఘం గృహ్య తాని రక్షాంస్యసూదయమ్৷৷5.58.154৷৷


తతః then, అహమ్ I, ఆత్మనః my own, సుమహత్ very huge, రూపమ్ form, పునః again, సంక్షిప్య assumed small form, తం బన్ధమ్ that bondage, విమోచయిత్వా got rid off, పునః again, ప్రకృతిస్థః into my natural huge form, స్థితః stayed, ఆయసమ్ near by, పరిఘమ్ iron beam, గృహ్య took up, తాని రక్షాంసి that rakshasas, అసూదయమ్ killed.

"I reduced my form and rid of the bondage. Then again I assumed my original huge form and took up an iron bar lying near and killed all the demons (present).
తతస్తన్నగరద్వారం వేగేనాప్లుతవానహమ్.

పుచ్ఛేన చ ప్రదీప్తేన తాం పురీం సాట్టగోపురామ్৷৷5.58.155৷৷

దహామ్యహమసంభ్రాన్తో యుగాన్తాగ్నిరివ ప్రజాః.


తతః then, అహమ్ I, వేగేన quickly, తత్ that, నగరద్వారమ్ gate of the city, ఆప్లుతవాన్ leapt, అహమ్ I, అసంభ్రాన్తః not perplexed, యుగాన్తాగ్నిః fire at the end of the dissolution, ప్రజాః ఇవ like the world, సాట్టప్రాకారగోపురామ్ boundaries and towering mansions, తాం పురీమ్ of the city, ప్రదీప్తేన by fire, పుచ్చేన by the tail, దహామి burnt away.

"Then I leaped to the entrance gate of the city without being perplexed. With my burning tail I set fire to the boundaries and towering mansions which looked like the world at the end of dissolution.
వినష్టా జానకీ వ్యక్తం న హ్యదగ్ధః ప్రదృశ్యతే৷৷5.58.156৷৷

లఙ్కాయాం కశ్చిదుద్ధేశః సర్వా భస్మీకృతా పురీ.


వ్యక్తమ్ after doing so, జానకీ Janaki, వినష్టా may be burnt, లఙ్కాయామ్ with Lanka, కశ్చిత్ perhaps, ఉద్ధేశః thinking so, అదగ్ధః rose up, న ప్రదృశ్యతే హి not even one place was left unburnt, సర్వా completely, పురీ city, భస్మీకృతా reduced to ashes

దహతా చ మయా లఙ్కాం దగ్ధా సీతా న సంశయః৷৷5.58.157৷৷

రామస్య హి మహత్కార్యం మయేదం వితథీకృతమ్.


లఙ్కామ్ Lanka, దహతా burnt, మయా by me, సీతా Sita, దగ్ధా has burnt, సంశయః doubt, న not, మయా to me, రామస్య of Rama, ఇదమ్ this, మహత్ great, కార్యమ్ purpose, వితథీకృతమ్ has been spoilt.

"Lanka has been burnt by me and Sita might have also been burnt. There is no doubt. The great purpose of Rama has been spoilt by me'.
ఇతి శోకసమావిష్టశ్చిన్తామహముపాగతః৷৷5.58.158৷৷

అథాహం వాచమశ్రౌషం చారణానాం శుభాక్షరామ్.

జానకీ న చ దగ్ధేతి విస్మయోదన్తభాషిణామ్৷৷5.58.159৷৷


ఇతి thus, శోకసమావిష్టః overtaken by sorrow, అహమ్ I, చిన్తామ్ worry, ఉపాగతః became, అథ and then, అహమ్ I, జానకీ Janaki, న చ దగ్ధా not been burn, ఇతి this, విస్మయోదన్తభాషిణామ్
wonderful utterances, చారణానామ్ from charanas, శుభాక్షరామ్ propitious, వాచమ్ words, అశ్రౌషమ్ heard.

"Thus I was overtaken by sorrow and worry. Just then I heard the wonderful propitious utterances of charanas announcing that Sita was not burnt.
తతో మే బుద్ధిరుత్పన్నా శ్రుత్వా తామద్భుతాం గిరమ్.

అదగ్ధా జానకీత్యేవం నిమిత్తైశ్చోపలక్షితా৷৷5.58.160৷৷


అద్భుతామ్ amazing, తాం గిరమ్ those words, శ్రుత్వా after hearing, తతః then, జానకీ Janaki, అదగ్ధా not been burnt, ఇత్యేవమ్ this way, మే my, బుద్ధిః knew, ఉత్పన్నా arose, నిమిత్తైశ్చ on account of her, ఉపలక్షితా I understood.

"It was amazing to hear the words of the charanas. On hearing that Jankai had not been burnt, I understood that it is on her account (that he is also not burnt although his tail was ignited.)
దీప్యమానే తు లాఙ్గూలే న మాం దహతి పావకః.

హృదయం చ ప్రహృష్టం మే వాతాస్సురభిగన్ధినః৷৷5.58.161৷৷


లాఙ్గూలే tail, దీప్యమానే was burning, పావకః by fire, మామ్ but I, న దహతి was not burnt, మే my, హృదయం చ from my heart, ప్రహృష్టమ్ joy, వాతాః wind, సురభిగన్ధినః very sweet fragrance.

"My tail was burning but I was not burnt by fire. There was joy in my heart. The wind carried sweet fragrance.
తైర్నిమిత్తైశ్చ దృష్టాథై: కారణైశ్చ మహాగుణైః.

ఋషివాక్యైశ్చ సిద్ధార్థైరభవం హృష్టమానసః৷৷5.58.162৷৷


దృష్టార్థైః by such signs, తైః those two, నిమిత్తై: reasons, మహాగుణైః great virtues, కారణైశ్చ and for these reasons, సిద్ధార్థైః will accomplish, ఋషివాక్యైశ్చ uttered by the words of sages, హృష్టమానసః felt very happy, అభవమ్ attained.

"For these two auspicious signs and the highly propitious words uttered by the sages I felt glad at heart.
పునర్దృష్ట్వా చ వైదేహీం విసృష్టశ్చ తయా పునః.

తతః పర్వతమాసాద్య తత్రారిష్టమహం పునః৷৷5.58.163৷৷

ప్రతిప్లవనమారేభే యుష్మద్ధర్శనకాంక్షయా.


వైదేహీమ్ to Vaidehi, పునః again, దృష్ట్వా చ and to see, తయా like that, పునః again, విసృష్టః seeking permission, తతః then, అరిష్టపర్వతమ్ mountain Arishta, పునః again, ఆసాద్య ascended, అహమ్ I, యుష్మద్ధర్శనకాంక్షయా to see you all, ప్రతిప్లవనమ్ leapt again, ఆరేభే started.

తతః పవనచన్ద్రార్కసిద్ధగన్ధర్వసేవితమ్৷৷5.58.164৷৷

పన్థానమహమాక్రమ్య భవతో దృష్టవానిహ.


తతః then, అహమ్ I, పవనచన్ద్రార్కసిద్ధగన్ధర్వసేవితమ్ by Wind-god, the Moon, the Sun, the siddhas and the gandharvas, పన్థానమ్ through the path travelled by, ఆశ్రిత్య came, ఇహ here, భవతః to you, దృష్టవాన్ to see.

"Passing along the path of the Wind-god, the Moon, the Sun, the siddhas and the gandharvas I came to see you.
రాఘవస్య ప్రభావేణ భవతాం చైవ తేజసా৷৷5.58.165৷৷

సుగ్రీవస్య చ కార్యార్థం మయా సర్వమనుష్ఠితమ్.


రాఘవస్య Rama's, ప్రభావేణ by the power, భవతామ్ your, తేజసా చైవ grace, సుగ్రీవస్య Sugriva's, కార్యార్థం చ on his account, మయా for me, సర్వమ్ all, అనుష్ఠితమ్ was favourable.

"Everything was favourable to me by the power of Rama, by your goodwill and for the great purpose of Sugriva.
ఏతత్సర్వం మయా తత్ర యథావదుపపాదితమ్৷৷5.58.166৷৷

అత్ర యన్న కృతం శేషం తత్సర్వం క్రియతామితి.


ఏతత్ all that, సర్వమ్ entire, తత్ర there, మయా by me, యథావత్ as it is, ఉపపాదితమ్ presented, అత్ర there, యత్ whatever, న కృతమ్ not done, శేషమ్ remaining task, తత్ that, సర్వమ్ everything, క్రియతామ్ will do.

"Let all that could not be done there and still remains to be done, be accomplished by you. I have presented the entire thing".
