[Hanuman enters the palace of Ravana -- description of the palace]

స నికామం విమానేషు నిషణ్ణః కామరూపధృత్.

విచచార పునర్లఙ్కాం లాఘవేన సమన్వితః৷৷5.6.1৷৷


కామరూపధృత్ who could assume any form, సః that (Hanuman), విమానేషు in the tall mansions, నికామమ్ freely, నిషణ్ణః sad, పునః again, లాఘవేన rapidly, సమన్వితః endowed with strength, లఙ్కామ్ Lanka, విచచార started ranging

The mighty Hanuman, who could assume any form at will, not finding Sita in the tall mansions, again started rapidly ranging in Lanka.
ఆససాదాథ లక్ష్మీవాన్రాక్షసేన్ద్రనివేశనమ్.

ప్రాకారేణార్కవర్ణేన భాస్వరేణాభిసమ్వృతమ్৷৷5.6.2৷৷

Then he reached the residence of the lord of demons enclosed by a red colour compound wall dazzling like the mid-day Sun.

The elephant among vanaras (Hanuman), scanned the mansion defended by dreadful demons like a forest protected by lions.

గజాస్థితైః mounted on elephants, శూరైః by drivers, విగతశ్రమైః unwearied, మహామాత్రైః great, అసంహార్యైః irresistible, హయైః with horses, స్యన్దనయాయిభిః chariot-riders, ఉపస్థితమ్ kept ready

(He saw) archways guarded by riders mounted on majestic elephants and unwearied riders of chariots drawn by horses of irresistible speed kept ready.
సింహవ్యాఘ్రతనుత్రాణైర్దాన్తకాఞ్చనరాజతైః.

ఘోషవద్భిర్విచిత్రైశ్చ సదా విచరితం రథైః৷৷5.6.6৷৷

There were wonderful chariots covered with skins of lions and tigers, encrusted with ivory, gold and silver with ringing bells moving about.
బహురత్నసమాకీర్ణం పరార్థ్యసనభాజనమ్.

The place was full of beautful women, carefully protected by disciplined guards as well as demons.

రాజగుణసమ్పన్నమ్ endowed with royal traits, ముఖ్యైః with eminent demons, అగురుచన్దనైః with the fragrance of agaru and sandal, సింహైః by lions, మహత్ వనమివ like a huge forest, మహాజనైః by great people, సమాకీర్ణమ్ full.

The place was full of eminent demons with royal traits like a dense forest infested with lions. It carried the fragrance of agaru and sandal of good quality.
భేరీమృదఙ్గాభిరుతం శఙ్ఖఘోషనినాదితమ్.

నిత్యార్చితం పర్వహుతం పూజితం రాక్షసైః సదా৷৷5.6.12৷৷


భేరీమృదఙ్గాభిరుతమ్ filled with the sounds of trumpets, mridangam and conches and percussion, శఙ్ఖఘోషనినాదితమ్ echoed with sounds of conches, నిత్యార్చితమ్ daily worshipped, పర్వహుతమ్ with sacrifices performed on new and full-moon days, సదా ever, రాక్షసైఃby demons, పూజితమ్ worshipped

Reverberating with the sounds of trumpets, mridangam and conches, there the demons daily performed worships and sacrifices on new and full-moon days.
సముద్రమివ గమ్భీరం సముద్రమివ నిస్స్వనమ్.

మహాత్మనో మహాద్వేశ్మ మహారత్నపరిచ్ఛదమ్৷৷5.6.13৷৷

మహారత్నసమాకీర్ణం దదర్శ స మహాకపిః.

The place produced deep sounds like the sea. Those mighty ogres wore gem-studded ornaments. The great vanara saw the residence of the great self, Ravana rich with precious gems.

లఙ్కాభరణమిత్యేవ సోమన్యత మహాకపిః.

చచార హనుమాంస్తత్ర రావణస్య సమీపతః৷৷5.6.15৷৷


వపుషా in appearance, విరాజమానమ్ was present, గజాశ్వరథసఙ్కులమ్ full of elephants, horses and chariots, లఙ్కాభరణమ్ ఇత్యేవ considered the very jewel of Lanka, సః that, మహాకపిఃgreat vanara, అమన్యత thought, హనుమాన్ Hanuman, తత్ర there, రావణస్య Ravana's, సమీపతః near by, చచార moved

Hanuman, the great monkey, saw the royal mansion looking brilliant with elephants, horses and chariots. He thought that the palace was the very ornament of Lanka. He moved unnoticed into the close quarters of Ravana.
గృహాద్గృహం రాక్షసానాముద్యానాని చ వానరః.

వీక్షమాణోహ్యసంత్రస్తః ప్రాసాదాంశ్చ చచార సః৷৷5.6.16৷৷


రాక్షసానామ్ of the demons', గృహాత్ గృహమ్ from one house to the other, ఉద్యానాని చ and pleasure gardens, వానర: vanara, వీక్షమాణః observing, అసంత్రస్తః undaunted, ప్రాసాదాంశ్చ and the mansions, చచార ranged

Hanuman ranged undaunted from one mansion to another including the pleasure gardens.
అవప్లుత్య మహావేగః ప్రహస్తస్య నివేశనమ్.

తతోన్యత్పుప్లువే వేశ్మ మహాపార్శ్వస్య వీర్యవాన్৷৷5.6.17৷৷


మహావీర్యః mighty, మహావేగః of great speed, ప్రహస్తస్య Prahasta's, నివేశనమ్ house, అవప్లుత్య jumping from there, తతః then, మహాపార్శ్వస్య Mahaparshva, అన్యత్ other, వేశ్మ houses, పుప్లువే leaped

Courageous and swift, Hanuman sprang from Prahasta's house to Mahaparshva's, and so on.
అథ మేఘప్రతీకాశం కుమ్భకర్ణనివేశనమ్.

విభీషణస్య చ తదా పుప్లువే స మహాకపిః৷৷5.6.18৷৷


అథ and then, సః that, మహాకపిః great vanara, మేఘప్రతీకాశామ్ appearing like a cloud, కుమ్భకర్ణనివేశనమ్ the residence of Kumbhakarna, తదా then, విభీషణస్య Vibhisana's, పుప్లువే leaped

Then the great vanara leaped from the residence of Kumbhakarna which looked like a cloud to Vibhishana's.

విద్యుజ్జిహ్వస్య భవనం విద్యున్మాలేస్తథైవ చ৷৷5.6.19৷৷

వజ్రదంష్ట్రస్య చ తథా పుప్లువే స మహాకపిః.

The great vanara leaped from Mahodara's to Virupaksha's, from Vidyujjihva's to Vidyunmali and then to Vajradanstra's.
శుకస్య చ మహాతేజాః సారణస్య చ ధీమతః৷৷5.6.20৷৷

తథా చేన్ద్రజితో వేశ్మ జగామ హరియూథపః.

The brilliant leader of monkeys bounded to the house of Suka, to the clever Sarana's and to Indrajit's.
జమ్బుమాలేః సుమాలేశ్చ జగామ హరిసత్తమః৷৷5.6.21৷৷

రశ్మికేతోశ్చ భవనం సూర్యకేతోస్తథైవ చ.

వజ్రకాయస్య చ తథా పుప్లువే స మహాకపిః৷৷5.6.22৷৷

The noble vanara jumped from Jambumali's to Sumali's and from Rashmiketu's, Suryaketu's and to Vajrakaya's residence.

విద్యుద్రూపస్య భీమస్య ఘనస్య విఘనస్య చ৷৷5.6.23৷৷

శుకనాసస్య వక్రస్య శఠస్య వికటస్య చ.

బ్రహ్మకర్ణస్య దంష్ట్రస్య రోమశస్య చ రక్షసః৷৷5.6.24৷৷

యుద్ధోన్మత్తస్య మత్తస్య ధ్వజగ్రీవస్య నాదినః.

The heroic and powerful vanara saw at Ravana's residence demonesses with hideous eyes guarding the bed and an army of demons holding tridents, hammers, powerful javelins and iron cudgels.
దదర్శ వివిధాన్ గుల్మాన్ తస్య రక్షఃపతేర్గృహే৷৷5.6.30৷৷

రాక్షసాంశ్చ మహాకాయాన్నానాప్రహరణోద్యతాన్.

కులీనాన్ రూపసమ్పన్నాన్ గజాన్పరగజారుజాన్.

నిష్ఠితాన్ గజశిక్షయామైరావతసమాన్యుధి৷৷5.6.32৷৷

నిహన్త్రూన్ పరసైన్యానాం గృహే తస్మిన్ దదర్శ సః.

క్షరతశ్చ యథా మేఘాన్ స్రవతశ్చ యథా గిరీన్৷৷5.6.33৷৷

మేఘసన్తతినిర్ఘోషాన్ దుర్ధర్షాన్ సమరే పరైః.

He saw horses of high speed in red, white and cream colours. He saw beautiful, well-bred elephants, which were not inferior to the enemy's. They were well-trained and had proved equal to Airavata (Indra's elephant) in battles. Resembling the thundering clouds, they were unassailable to the enemy in war and were trumpeting like a cluster of clouds.

Comparable to mount Mandara, it was crowded with peacocks, set with flag staffs fixed all over, magnificent mansions built by skilled craftsmen with great efforts, decked with gems of several kinds, rich with treasures comparable to Kailasa, the home of Siva, the Lord of all beings.
అర్చిర్భిశ్చాపి రత్నానాం తేజసా రావణస్య చ৷৷5.6.40৷৷

విరరాజాథ తద్వేశ్మ రశ్మిమానివ రశ్మిభిః.

The palace of Ravana looked splendid with gems of different hues and with Ravana's presence, it was shining like the radiant Sun-god.

The leader of the vanaras saw there beds, seats and main vessels made of gold.

సువ్యూఢకక్ష్యం హనుమాన్ ప్రవివేశ మహాగృహామ్.


ధ్వాసవకృతక్లేదమ్ drenched with liqour and other drinks, మణిభాజనసఙ్కులమ్ with gem-encrusted vessels scattered all over, మనోరమమ్ very delightful, అసమ్బాధమ్ spacious, కుబేరభవనం యథా like the mansion of Kubera, నూపురాణామ్ of anklets, ఘోషేణ by the sound, కాఞ్చీనామ్ of girdles, నినదేన with the sounds, ఘోషవద్భి: filled with sounds of, మృదఙ్గతల ఘోషైశ్చ with the sounds of drums, వినాదితమ్ resonating, ప్రాసాదసఙ్ఘాతయుతమ్ with rows of mansions, స్త్రీరత్నశతసఙ్కులమ్ filled with hundreds of exquisite women, సువ్యూఢకక్ష్యమ్ with well-laid apartments, మహాగృహమ్ lofty palace, హనుమాన్ Hanuman, ప్రవివేశ entered

Hanuman entered the delightful, lofty palace comparable to Kubera's mansion. It was filled with vessels encrusted with gems scattered all over. The floor was drenched with liquor. It was resonating with sounds of golden anklets of women and of drums. The rows of mansions, lofty palaces with well-laid apartments were full of hundreds of exquisite women.
