[Sugriva tells Dadhimukha not to worry about the destruction of Madhuvanam. He asked him to send Hanuman, Angada and others]

తతో మూర్ధ్నా నిపతితం వానరం వానరర్షభః.

దృష్ట్వైవోద్విగ్నహృదయో వాక్యమేతదువాచ హ৷৷5.63.1৷৷


తతః then, వానరర్షభః bull among vanaras, మూర్ధ్నా forehead, నిపతితమ్ prostrated, వానరమ్ vanara, Dadhimukha, దృష్ట్వైవ as soon as he saw, ఉద్విగ్నహృదయః anxious at heart, ఏతత్ these, వాక్యమ్ words, ఉవాచ హ spoke.

Feeling anxious on seeing Dadhimukha touching his feet with his forehead, Sugriva, the bull among vanaras said:
ఉత్తిష్ఠోత్తిష్ఠ కస్మాత్త్వం పాదయోః పతితో మమ.

అభయం తే భవేద్వీర సర్వమేవాభిధీయతామ్৷৷5.63.2৷৷


వీర hero, ఉత్తిష్ఠ ఉత్తిష్ఠ get up, get up, త్వమ్ you, కస్మాత్ why, మమ my, పాదయోః feet, పతితః fallen, తే to you, అభయమ్ give you protection, భవేత్ you be, సర్వమేవ from all, అభిధీయతామ్ you may tell.

మహాత్మనా great self, తేన సుగ్రీవేణ by Sugriva, విశ్వాసితః given assurance, సుమహాప్రాజ్ఞః very wise, సః దధిముఖః that Dadhimukha, ఉత్థాయ got up, వాక్యమ్ these words, అబ్రవీత్ said.

When great Sugriva gave assurance to wise Dadhimukha, he got up and said:
నైవర్క్షరజసా రాజన్న త్వయా నాపి వాలినా.

వనం నిసృష్టపూర్వం హి భక్షితం తచ్చ వానరైః৷৷5.63.4৷৷


రాజన్ O king, వనమ్ garden, ఋక్షరజసా in Riksharaja's time, నైవ నిసృష్టపూర్వం హి or even before, త్వయా your time, న not, వాలినాపి even at the time of Vali, న not, తచ్చ accessible to go, వానరైః vanaras, భక్షితమ్ finished eating.

"O king! in your time or even before, during the time of Vali, that (Madhuvanam) was forbidden for entry. Now it has been laid waste by the trespassing vanaras.
ఏభిః ప్రధర్షితాశ్చైవ వానరా వనరక్షిభిః.

మధూన్యచిన్తయిత్వేమాన్ భక్షయన్తి పిబన్తి చ৷৷5.63.5৷৷


ఏభిః they also, వనరక్షిభిః garden guards, ప్రధర్షితాశ్చైవ even though resisted, వానరాః vanaras, ఇమాన్ them, అచిన్తయిత్వా not cared for, మధూని honey, భక్షయన్తి finished eating, పిబన్తి చ and drinking.

"Even though the garden guards forcibly tried to prevent them they did not care and have devoured all the honey.
శిష్టమత్రాపవిధ్యన్తి భక్షయన్తి తథాపరే.

నివార్యమాణాస్తే సర్వే భ్రువో వై దర్శయన్తి హి৷৷5.63.6৷৷


శిష్టమ్ left over, అత్ర there, అపవిధ్యన్తి thrown off, తథా similarly, అపరే others, భక్షయన్తి eating, తే సర్వే all, నివార్యమాణాః when we prevented, భ్రువః eyebrows, దర్శయన్తి చ raising to show (a sign of arrogance)

"Some have thrown off the leftovers, when others were prevented from drinking off the honey, they raised their eyebrows (to show their grouch).
ఇమే హి సంరబ్ధతరాస్తథా తైస్సమ్ప్రధర్షితాః.

వారయన్తో వనాత్తస్మాత్క్రుద్ధైర్వానరపుఙ్గవైః৷৷5.63.7৷৷


సంరబ్దతరాః when enraged guards, తథా that way, తస్మాత్ from that, వనాత్ garden, వారయన్తః vanaras, ఇమే to go, క్రుద్ధైః angry, తైః they, వానరపుఙ్గవైః vanara leaders, సమ్ప్రధర్షితాః ill treated them.

"When the guards asked the vanaras to leave the garden the enraged vanaras misbehaved with them.
తతస్తైర్బహుభిర్వీరైర్వానరైర్వానరర్షభ.

సంరక్తనయనైః క్రోధాద్ధరయః ప్రవిచాలితాః৷৷5.63.8৷৷


వానరర్షభ bull among vanaras, తతః then, క్రోధాత్ in fury, సంరక్తనయనైః red-eyed, వీరైః heroes, బహుభిః many, తైః them, వానరైః vanara guards, హరయః monkeys, ప్రవిచాలితాః chased.

"O Sugriva! the vanara guards were chased away by the many heroic monkeys, angry and red-eyed.
పాణిభిర్నిహతాః కేచిత్కేచిజ్జానుభిరాహతాః.

ప్రకృష్టాశ్చ యథాకామం దేవమార్గం చ దర్శితాః৷৷5.63.9৷৷


కేచిత్ some, పాణిభిః with the hands, నిహతాః struck, కేచిత్ some, జానుభిః on the knees, ఆహతాః beaten, యథాకామమ్ as they liked, ప్రకృష్టాః dragged, దేవమార్గమ్ private parts, దర్శితాః చ showed.

"Some were struck with hands, some beaten on their knees and were dragged as they liked and showed up their private parts.
ఏవమేతే హతాశ్శూరాస్త్వయి తిష్ఠతి భర్తరి.

కృత్స్నం మధువనం చైవ ప్రకామం తైః ప్రభక్ష్యతే৷৷5.63.10৷৷


త్వయి you, భర్తరి when you are the king, తిష్ఠతి staying, ఏతే these, శూరాః heroes, ఏవమ్ in that way, హతాః striking, తైః they, కృత్స్నమ్ on the earth, మధువనం చైవ Madhuvanam aslo, ప్రకామమ్ at their will, ప్రభక్ష్యతే eating so.

These heroes struck that way devoured the Madhuvanam on the earth at their will and devoured the honey even when you are there as king.
ఏవం విజ్ఞాప్యమానం తం సుగ్రీవం వానరర్షభమ్.

అపృచ్ఛత్తం మహాప్రాజ్ఞో లక్ష్మణః పరవీరహా৷৷5.63.11৷৷


ఏవమ్ in that way, విజ్ఞాప్యమానమ్ having appealed, వానరర్షభమ్ bulls among vanaras, తం సుగ్రీవమ్ to Sugriva, పరవీరహా killer of enemies, మహాప్రాజ్ఞః very learned, లక్ష్మణః Lakshmana, అపృచ్ఛత్ enquired.

While Dadhimukha appealed thus to wise Sugriva, Lakshmana the killer of enemies happened to see them and enquired:
కిమయం వానరో రాజన్ వనపః ప్రత్యుపస్థితః.

కం చార్థమభినిర్దిశ్య దుఃఖితో వాక్యమబ్రవీత్৷৷5.63.12৷৷


రాజన్ O king!, వనప: protector of the garden, అయం వానరః this vanara, కిమ్ why, ప్రత్యుపస్థితః came here?, దుఃఖితః sad, కమ్ why, అర్థమ్ for what, అభినిర్దిశ్య what is he telling, వాక్యమ్ these words, అబ్రవీత్ said.

"O king! why has this protector of the garden come here? Why is he sad? What is he narrating, asked Lakshmana.
ఏవముక్తస్తు సుగ్రీవో లక్ష్మణేన మహాత్మనా.

లక్ష్మణం ప్రత్యువాచేదం వాక్యం వాక్యవిశారదః৷৷5.63.13৷৷


మహాత్మనా great prince, లక్ష్మణేన by Lakshmana, ఏవమ్ in that way, ఉక్తః having spoken, వాక్యవిశారదః proficient in speech, సుగ్రీవః Sugriva, ఇదమ్ these, వాక్యమ్ words, ప్రత్యువాచ replied.

Great prince Lakshmana thus said, Sugriva the proficient speaker replied:
ఆర్య లక్ష్మణ సమ్ప్రాహ వీరో దధిముఖః కపిః.

అఙ్గదప్రముఖైర్వీరైర్భక్షితం మధు వానరైః৷৷5.63.14৷৷

విచిత్య దక్షిణామాశామాగతైర్హరిపుఙ్గవైః.


ఆర్య O venerable one!, లక్ష్మణ Lakshmana, వీరః hero, కపిః monkey, దధిముఖః Dadhimukha, సమ్ప్రాహ to search, దక్షిణామ్ southern, ఆశామ్ hope, విచిత్య having searched, ఆగతైః have come, హరిపుఙ్గవైః monkey leaders, వీరైః heroic ones, అఙ్గదప్రముఖైః Angada and others, వానరైః vanaras, మధు honey, భక్షితమ్ eaten.

'O venerable Lakshmana! Dadhimukha as complaining that the fruits and honey have been consumed by the vanara heroes, Angada and others who have come after their search for Sita in the southern direction.
నైషామకృత్యానామీదృశస్స్యాదుపక్రమః৷৷5.63.15৷৷

ఆగతైశ్చ ప్రమథితం యథా మధువనం హి తైః.

ధర్షితం చ వనం కృత్స్నముపయుక్తం చ వానరైః৷৷5.63.16৷৷


ఆగతైః having come, తైః those, వానరైః vanaras, మధువనమ్ Madhuvanam, యథా that way, ప్రమథితమ్ entered, కృత్స్నమ్ whole, వనమ్ garden, ధర్షితమ్ broken, ఉపయుక్తం చ right, ఏషామ్ they that way, అకృతకృత్యానామ్ if they had not accomplished their purpose, ఈదృశః this way, ఉపక్రమః indulged, న స్యాత్ not done.

"Those vanaras having entered Madhuvanam and broken the trees are quite right. Had they not accomplished their purpose they would not have indulged themselves that way.
వనం యదాభిపన్నాస్తే సాధితం కర్మ వానరైః.

దృష్టా దేవీ న సన్దేహో న చాన్యేన హనూమతా৷৷5.63.17৷৷


తే they, యదా like that, వనమ్ garden, అభిపన్నాః entered, వానరైం కర్మ their duty, సాధితమ్ had done, దేవీ queen, దృష్టా saw, సన్దేహః doubt, న no, అన్యేన others, న not, హనుమతా Hanuman.

"If they have trespassed into the garden that way, they might have done their duty. No doubt, Hanuman alone among them might have seen Sita.
న హ్యన్యస్సాధనే హేతుః కర్మణోస్య హనూమతః.

కార్యసిద్ధిర్మతిశ్చైవ తస్మిన్వానరపుఙ్గవే৷৷5.63.18৷৷

వ్యవసాయశ్చ వీర్యం చ శ్రుతం చాపి ప్రతిష్ఠితమ్.


అస్య కర్మణః that duty, సాధనే capacity, హనూమతః Hanuman, అన్యః others, హేతుః the reason being, న హి not indeed, కార్యసిద్ధి: capacity to accomplish, మతిశ్చైవ even wisdom, వ్యవసాయశ్చ even strenuous effort, వీర్యం చ and virility, శ్రుతం చాపి enthusiasm, తస్మిన్ for him, వానరపుఙ్గవే to only the foremost of the monkys, ప్రతిష్ఠితమ్ are well-established.

"Hanuman alone has the ability to do it, the reason being he has the capacity the wisdom, streneous effort, virility and enthusiasm to accomplish it. These attributes are well-established in him.
జామ్బవాన్యత్ర నేతా స్యాదఙ్గదశ్చ మహాబలః৷৷5.63.19৷৷

హనుమాంశ్చాప్యధిష్ఠాతా న తస్య గతిరన్యథా.


యత్ర where, జామ్బవాన్ Jambavan, నేతా is the leader, స్యాత్ remains, మహాబలః strong, అఙ్గదశ్చ Angada also, హనుమాంశ్చ and Hanuman, అధిష్ఠాతా directing, తస్య that, గతిః will be done, అన్యథా otherwise, న not.

Where Jambavan, Angada and Hanuman are leaders directing the task of the army it must have been accomplished.
అఙ్గదప్రముఖైర్వీరైర్హతం మధువనం కిల৷৷5.63.20৷৷

వారయన్తశ్చ సహితాస్తదా జానుభిరాహతాః.


అఙ్గదప్రముఖైః Angada and other leaders, వీరైః heroes, మధువనమ్ Madhuvanam, హతం కిల destroyed the garden, సహితాః along with others, వారయన్తః చ when they were obstructed, తదా then, జానుభిః knees, ఆహతాః beaten.

ఏతదర్థమయం ప్రాప్తో వక్తుం మధురవాగిహ৷৷5.63.21৷৷

నామ్నా దధిముఖో నామ హరిః ప్రఖ్యాతవిక్రమః.


నామ్నా named, దధిముఖో నామ Dadhimukha, ప్రఖ్యాతవిక్రమః known for his valour, హరిః monkey, ఏతదర్థమ్ on account of it, వక్తుమ్ to tell, మధురవాక్ sweet tongued, ఇహ here, ప్రాప్తః came.

"Here is Dadhimukha, a vanara, known for his valour and sweet tongue. He came here this incident to tell.
దృష్టా సీతా మహాబాహో సౌమిత్రే పశ్య తత్త్వతః৷৷5.63.22৷৷

అభిగమ్య తథా సర్వే పిబన్తి మధు వానరాః.


మహాబాహో strong-armed, సౌమిత్రే O Saumitri, సీతా Sita, దృష్టా would have seen, తత్త్వతః truly, పశ్య seen, తథా so, వానరాః vanaras, సర్వే all, అభిగమ్య having arrived, మధు honey, పిబన్తి drank.

"O strong-armed Saumitri! the Vanaras must have seen Sita. Or else, they would not have arrived to drink honey.
న చాప్యదృష్ట్వా వైదేహీం విశ్రుతాః పురుషర్షభ৷৷5.63.23৷৷

వనం దత్తవరం దివ్యం ధర్షయేయుర్వనౌకసః.


పురుషర్షభ bull among men, విశ్రుతాః renowned, వనౌకసః forest-dwellers, వైదేహీమ్ Vaidehi, అదృష్ట్వా not seen, దత్తవరమ్ that which was given as boon, దివ్యమ్ wonderful, వనమ్ garden, న ధర్షయేయుః entered.

"If the renowned vanaras had not seen Vaidehi, they would not have entered the wonderful garden granted as boon (by Brahma).
తతః ప్రహృష్టో ధర్మాత్మా లక్ష్మణస్సహ రాఘవః৷৷5.63.24৷৷

శ్రుత్వా కర్ణసుఖాం వాణీం సుగ్రీవవదనాచ్చ్యుతామ్.

ప్రాహృష్యత భృశం రామో లక్ష్మణశ్చ మహాబలః৷৷5.63.25৷৷


తతః then, సహ రాఘవః also Rama, ధర్మాత్మా righteous, లక్ష్మణః Lakshmana, ప్రహృష్టః very cheerful rejoiced, సుగ్రీవవదనాత్ Sugriva's mouth, చ్యుతామ్ delivered, కర్ణసుఖామ్ pleasing to the ears, వాణీమ్ words, శ్రుత్వా having heard, రామః Rama, ప్రాహృష్యత felt happy, మహాబలః mighty strong, లక్ష్మణశ్చ even Lakshmana, భృశమ్ very, ప్రాహృష్యత happy.

"Then righteous Rama and Lakshmana rejoiced to hear the words of Sugriva, which were pleasing to the ears.
శ్రుత్వా దధిముఖస్యేదం సుగ్రీవస్సమ్ప్రహృష్య చ.

వనపాలం పునర్వాక్యం సుగ్రీవః ప్రత్యభాషత৷৷5.63.26৷৷


సుగ్రీవః one with beautiful neck, సుగ్రీవః Sugriva, దధిముఖస్య Dadhimukha's, ఇదమ్ thus, శ్రుత్వా having heard, సమ్ప్రహృష్య చ very glad, పునః again, వనపాలమ్ protector of the garden, వాక్యమ్ these words, ప్రత్యభాషత replied.

Beautiful-necked Sugriva heard Dadhimukha, the protector of the garden, felt very glad and replied:
ప్రీతోస్మి సోహం యద్భుక్తం వనం తైః కృతకర్మభిః.

మర్షితం మర్షణీయం చ చేష్టితం కృతకర్మణామ్৷৷5.63.27৷৷


కృతకర్మభిః having performed the duty, తైః they, వనమ్ garden, యత్ భుక్తమ్ for drinking that honey, సః అహమ్ I, ప్రీతః అస్మి I am pleased, కృతకర్మణామ్ having accomplished the task, మర్షణీయమ్ are to be excused, చేష్టితమ్ their behaviour, మర్షితమ్ excused.

"They went to the garden to drink only after having performed their duty. I am glad about it. Since they have accomplished the purpose, they are to be excused for their behaviour. I have pardoned them.
ఇచ్ఛామి శీఘ్రం హనుమత్ప్రధానాన్ శాఖామృగాంస్తాన్ మృగరాజదర్పాన్.

ద్రష్టుం కృతార్థాన్ సహ రాఘవాభ్యాం శ్రోతుం చ సీతాధిగమే ప్రయత్నమ్৷৷5.63.28৷৷


హనుమత్ప్రధానాన్ led by Hanuman, మృగరాజదర్పాన్ with the majesty of the lion, కృతార్థాన్ acomplished ones, తాన్ them, శాఖామృగాన్ vanaras (who live on trees), రాఘవాభ్యాం సహ Rama and others, ద్రష్టుమ్ to see, సీతాధిగమేన to see Sita, ప్రయత్నమ్ endeavour, శ్రోతుం చ to hear, ఇచ్ఛామి desiring.

ప్రీతిస్ఫీతాక్షౌ సమ్ప్రహృష్టౌ కుమారౌ దృష్ట్వా సిద్ధార్థౌ వానరాణాం చ రాజా.

అఙ్గైః సంహృష్టైః కర్మసిద్ధిం విదిత్వా బాహ్వోరాసన్నాం సోతిమాత్రం ననన్ద৷৷5.63.29৷৷


సః he (Sugriva), వానరాణాం రాజా king of vanaras, ప్రీతిస్ఫీతాక్షౌ eyes filled with joy, సమ్ప్రహృష్టౌ very happy, సిద్ధార్ధౌ accomplished, కుమారౌ young, దృష్ట్వా seeing, సంహృష్టైః very glad, అఙ్గైః limbs of the body, కర్మసిద్ధిమ్ task has been accomplished, బాహ్వోః shoulders, ఆసన్నామ్ time has come, విదిత్వా recognising, అతిమాత్రమ్ highly, ననన్ద delighted.

"Beholding young Rama and Lakshmana extremely delighted, their eyes filled with joy out of fulfilment of the purpose, Sugriva who was also highly delighted felt an auspicious thrill on his limbs and knew that good time had come.
ఇత్యార్షే శ్రీమద్రామాయణే వాల్మీకీయ ఆదికావ్యే సున్దరకాణ్డే త్రిషష్టితమస్సర్గః৷৷
Thus ends the sixtythird sarga of Sundarakanda of the holy Ramayana, the first epic composed by sage Valmiki.
