[Hanuman apprises Sri Rama of Sita's presence under the Simsupa tree surrounded by demonesses and presents the Chudamani to Rama in the presence of Sugriva.]

తతః ప్రస్రవణం శైలం తే గత్వా చిత్రకాననమ్.

ప్రణమ్య శిరసా రామం లక్ష్మణం చ మహాబలమ్৷৷5.65.1৷৷

యువరాజం పురస్కృత్య సుగ్రీవమభివాద్య చ.

ప్రవృత్తిమథ సీతాయాః ప్రవక్తుముపచక్రముః৷৷5.65.2৷৷


తతః thereafter, తే they, చిత్రకాననమ్ wonderful forest of Chitra, ప్రస్రవణమ్ శైలమ్ to Prasravana mount, యువరాజమ్ heir apparent, పురస్కృత్య placing in front with respect, గత్వా having arrived, రామమ్ to Rama, మహాబలమ్ mighty, లక్ష్మణం చ and Lakshmana, శిరసా bowed down, ప్రణమ్య offered salutations, సుగ్రీవమ్ to Sugriva, అభివాద్య చ offered obeisance, అథ and then, సీతాయాః regarding Sita's, ప్రవృత్తిమ్ state, ప్రవక్తుమ్ to tell, ఉపచక్రముః began.

Thereafter the vanaras arrived at the Prasrvana mount, with wonderful forests and bowed down to Sri Rama and mighty Lakshaman and Sugriva placing their leader, heir apparent in front. Then they began telling the story of Sita and her state.
రావణాన్తః పురే రోధం రాక్షసీభిశ్చ తర్జనమ్.

రామే సమనురాగం చ యశ్చాయం సమయః కృతః৷৷5.65.3৷৷

ఏతదాఖ్యాన్తి తే సర్వే హరయో రామసన్నిధౌ.


సర్వే all, తే హరయః those vanaras, రావణాన్తః పురే in the chambers of Ravana, రోధమ్ detention, రాక్షసీభిః ogresses, తర్జనం చ threatening, రామే to Rama, సమనురాగం చ her devotion, యః that which, అయమ్ thus, సమయః time limit, కృతః set, ఏతత్ all that, రామసన్నిధౌ in Rama's presence, ఆఖ్యాన్తి told.

The monkeys in Rama's presence narrated all about Sita's detention in Ravana's
Ashoka garden, the ogresses threatening her and the time limit fixed by Ravana (for her survival).
వైదేహీమక్షతాం శ్రుత్వా రామస్తూత్తరమబ్రవీత్৷৷5.65.4৷৷

క్వ సీతా వర్తతే దేవీ కథం చ మయి వర్తతే.

ఏతన్మే సర్వమాఖ్యాత వైదేహీం ప్రతి వానరాః৷৷5.65.5৷৷


వైదేహీమ్ Vaidehi, అక్షతామ్ not harmed, శ్రుత్వా hearing, రామస్తు Rama too, ఉత్తరమ్ responded, అబ్రవీత్ asked, దేవీ divine lady, సీతా Sita, క్వ tell me, వర్తతే she is, మయి to me, కథమ్ how, వర్తతే is she, వానరాః vanara, వైదేహీం ప్రతి her disposition towards, ఏతత్ all that, సర్వమ్ every thing, మే to me, ఆఖ్యాత asked.

Hearing of Sita alive and not harmed, Rama asked the vanaras, 'How is Sita? How is she disposed to me? Tell me everything'.
రామస్య గదితం శ్రుత్వా హరయో రామసన్నిధౌ.

చోదయన్తి హనూమన్తం సీతావృత్తాన్తకోవిదమ్৷৷5.65.6৷৷


హరయః vanaras,రామస్య Rama's, గదితమ్ words spoken, శ్రుత్వా hearing, సీతావృత్తాన్తకోవిదమ్ who was aware of Sita's position, హనూమన్తమ్ Hanuman, రామసన్నిధౌ in the presence of Rama, చోదయన్తి requested to tell.

On hearing the words from Rama, the vanaras requested Hanuman who was aware of Sita's position to tell Rama all about her.
శ్రుత్వా తు వచనం తేషాం హనుమాన్మారుతాత్మజః.

ప్రణమ్య శిరసా దేవ్యై సీతాయై తాం దిశం ప్రతి৷৷5.65.7৷৷

ఉవాచ వాక్యం వాక్యజ్ఞస్సీతాయా దర్శనం యథా.


మారుతాత్మజః son of the Wind-god, వాక్యజ్ఞః wise in speech, హనుమాన్ Hanuman, తేషామ్ their,
వచనమ్ words, శ్రుత్వా hearing, దేవ్యై to the divine lady, సీతాయై Sita, తాం దిశం ప్రతి to the direction in which she was located, శిరసా with head down, ప్రణమ్య offered salutations, సీతాయాః about Sita's, దర్శనమ్ finding, యథా these, వాక్యమ్ words, ఉవాచ spoke.

The son of the Wind god, Hanuman who was wise in speech heard the words of Rama, offered salutations to Sita in the direction in which she was located and narrated the story about her discovery.
సముద్రం లఙ్ఘయిత్వాహం శతయోజనమాయతమ్৷৷5.65.8৷৷

అగచ్ఛం జానకీం సీతాం మార్గమాణో దిదృక్షయా.


అహమ్ I, శతయోజనమ్ a hundred yojanas, ఆయతమ్ wide, సముద్రమ్ ocean, లఙ్ఘయిత్వా having crossed, జానకీమ్ Janaki,సీతామ్ Sita, మార్గమాణః searching, దిదృక్షయా with the intention of seeing, ఆగచ్ఛమ్ reached.

"Having crossed the sea consisting of a hundred yojanas in quest of Vaidehi, I found her.
తత్ర లఙ్కేతి నగరీ రావణస్య దురాత్మనః৷৷5.65.9৷৷

దక్షిణస్య సముద్రస్య తీరే వసతి దక్షిణే.


తత్ర there, దక్షిణస్య సముద్రస్య on the southern side of the sea, దక్షిణే తీరే of the southern shore, దురాత్మనః evil-minded, రావణస్య Ravana's, లఙ్కేతి in Lanka, నగరీ city, వసతి there is.

"On the southern shore of the ocean is situated the city of Lanka , ruled by the evil-minded Ravana.
తత్ర దృష్టా మయా సీతా రావణాన్తః పురే సతీ৷৷5.65.10৷৷

సన్న్యస్య త్వయి జీవన్తీ రామా రామ మనోరథమ్.


రామా Rama, తత్ర there, రావణాన్తః పురే in the inner palace of Ravana, సతీ your wife, త్వయి
your, మనోరథమ్ her hopes, సన్న్యస్య giving up desires, జీవన్తీ living, రామ lovely, సీతా Sita, మయా by me, దృష్టా seen.

"There in the inner palace of Ravana, I saw your lovely wife Sita, with all her hopes pinned on you, giving up all other desires.
దృష్టా మే రాక్షసీమధ్యే తర్జ్యమానా ముహుర్ముహుః৷৷5.65.11৷৷

రాక్షసీభిర్విరూపాభీ రక్షితా ప్రమదావనే.


ప్రమదావనే in that beautiful garden, విరూపాభిః hideous, రాక్షసీభిః rakshasas, రక్షితా guarded, ముహుర్ముహుః again and again, తర్జ్యమానా threatening, మే I, రాక్షసీమధ్యే in the midst of ogresses, దృష్టా saw.

"I found her in the beautiful garden guarded by hideous ogresses threatening her again and again৷৷
దుఃఖ మాసాద్యతే దేవీ తథాదుఃఖోచితా సతీ৷৷5.65.12৷৷

రావణాన్తః పురే రుద్ధా రాక్షసీభి స్సురక్షితా.

ఏకవేణీధరా దీనా త్వయి చిన్తాపరాయణా৷৷5.65.13৷৷

అధఃశయ్యా వివర్ణాఙ్గీ పద్మినీవ హిమాగమే.

రావణాద్వినివృత్తార్థా మర్తవ్యకృతనిశ్చయా৷৷5.65.14৷৷

దేవీ కథఞ్చిత్కాకుత్స్థ త్వన్మనా మార్గితా మయా.


తథా in that way, దుఃఖోచితా mind filled with grief, దేవీ divine lady, దుఃఖమ్ grief, ఆపద్యతే not deserve to experience, రావణాన్తఃపురే in the inner palace of Ravana, రుద్ధా detained, రాక్షసీభి by ogresses, స్సురక్షితా guarded by, ఏకవేణీధరా wearing a single braid( a mark of desolation),దీనా pathetic, త్వయి your,సతీ wife,చిన్తాపరాయణా absorbed in your thought, అధ: శయ్యా now lying on bare ground, హిమాగమే in winter season, పద్మినీవ like the lotus, వివర్ణాఙ్గీ limbs turned pale, రావణాత్ by Ravana, వినివృత్తార్థా averse to Ravana, మర్తవ్యకృన్తిశ్చయా determined to die, కాకుత్స్థ Rama alone, త్వన్మనాః in her mind, దేవీ Sita,
కథఞ్చిత్ somehow, మార్గితా found.

"Sita, who did not deserve and yet was full of grief was detained by Ravana in his inner palace, guarded by ogresses. She had single braid (a sign of desolation), was pathetic, and totally absorbed in your thought. She was lying on bare ground with her limbs turned pale, like lotus in winter. She was averse to Ravana and was determined to commit suicide. She has only Rama in her mind. Somehow I found her.
ఇక్ష్వాకువంశవిఖ్యాతిం శనైః కీర్తయతానఘ৷৷5.65.15৷৷

సా మయా నరశార్దూల విశ్వాసముపపాదితా.


అనఘ sinless one, నరశార్దూల tiger among men, ఇక్ష్వాకువంశవిఖ్యాతిమ్ all about the glory of Ikshvaku race, శనైః slowly, కీర్తయతా praised, మయా by me, సా she, విశ్వాసమ్ confidence, ఉపపాదితా to inspire.

"O sinless one! O tiger among men! To inspire confidence in her I praised the glory of your Ikshvaku dynasty.
తత స్సమ్భాషితా దేవీ సర్వమర్థం చ దర్శితా৷৷5.65.16৷৷

రామసుగ్రీవసఖ్యం చ శ్రుత్వా ప్రీతిముపాగతా.

నియత స్సముదాచారో భక్తిశ్చాస్యాస్తథా త్వయి৷৷5.65.17৷৷


తతః then, దేవీ divine lady, సమ్భాషితా talked, సర్వమ్ all,అర్థమ్ all facts,దర్శితా presented to her, రామసుగ్రీవసఖ్యం చ about the alliance of Rama and Sugriva, శ్రుత్వా on hearing, ప్రీతిమ్ affectionately, ఉపాగతా became, అస్యాః her, సముదాచారః virtuous, నియతః fixed, తథా so also, త్వయి towards, భక్తిశ్చ and devotion.

"When the divine lady talked to me, I presented all the facts about the alliance of Rama and Sugriva. On hearing me, virtuous Sita, whose devotion is fixed on you became delighted.
ఏవం మయా మహాభాగా దృష్టా జనకనన్దినీ.

ఉగ్రేణ తపసా యుక్తా త్వద్భక్త్యా పురుషర్షభ৷৷5.65.18৷৷


పురుషర్షభ bull among men, ఉగ్రేణ formidable, తపసా austerity, త్వద్భక్త్యా devotion to you, యుక్తా filled with, మహాభాగా prosperous, జనకనన్దినీ delight of Janaka, మయా by me, ఏవమ్ that way, దృష్టా seen.

"O bull among men! I saw Janaki,the delight of Janaka, a formidable lady filled with devotion to you and richly endowed with austerity.
అభిజ్ఞానం చ మే దత్తం యథా వృత్తం తవాన్తికే.

చిత్రకూటే మహాప్రాజ్ఞ వాయసం ప్రతి రాఘవ৷৷5.65.19৷৷


మహాప్రాజ్ఞ very wise, చిత్రకూటే in Chitrakuta, తవ your, అన్తికే provided me, వాయసం ప్రతి with an anecdote of a crow, యథా so also, వృత్తమ్ told, అభిజ్ఞానమ్ as an identification for you, మే to me, దత్తమ్ presented.

"O wise one, with your ring given her, she told me an anecdote of a crow that took place at Chitrakuta.
విజ్ఞాప్యశ్చ నరవ్యాఘ్రో రామో వాయుసుత త్వయా.

అఖిలేనేహ యద్ధృష్టమితి మామాహ జానకీ৷৷5.65.20৷৷


వాయుసుత son of the Wind-god, నరవ్యాఘ్రః tiger among men, రామః Rama, త్వయా your, ఇహ here, యత్ that which, దృష్టమ్ seen, అఖిలేన should tell, విజ్ఞాప్యః should let him know, ఇతి thus, జానకీ Janaki, మామ్ me, ఆహ told.

(She said)'O son of the Wind-god! you should let Rama, the tiger among men know all that you have seen here.
అయం చాస్మై ప్రదాతవ్యో యత్నాత్సుపరిరక్షితః.

బ్రువతా వచనాన్యేవం సుగ్రీవస్యోపశృణ్వతః৷৷5.65.21৷৷


సుగ్రీవస్య while Sugriva, ఉపశృణ్వతః within hearing of, ఏవమ్ that way, వచనాని these words, బ్రువతా that I said, యత్నాత్ the efforts, సుపరిరక్షితః kept with great care, అయం చ and I, అస్మై this, ప్రదాతవ్యః be presented.

'Within hearing of Sugriva, tell him about your efforts. Present this(signet) to Rama carefully preserved by me.
ఏష చూడామణిశ్శ్రీమాన్ మయా సుపరిరక్షితః.

మనశ్శిలాయాస్తిలకో గణ్డపార్శ్వే నివేశితః৷৷5.65.22৷৷

త్వయా ప్రణష్ఠే తిలకే తం కిల స్మర్తుమర్హసి.


శ్రీమాన్ prosperous, ఏషః this, చూడామణిః Chudamani, మయా by me, సుపరిరక్షితః very carefully preserved, తిలకే red mark on the forehead, ప్రణష్ఠే when it was, త్వయా by you, మనశ్శిలాయాః with the stone pigment, తిలకః mark on the forehead, గణ్డపార్శ్వే on my forehead, నివేశితః కిల decorated indeed, తమ్ స్మర్తుమ్ remind him, అర్హసి is proper.

'This auspicious (jewel) Chudamani has been preserved by me very carefully. Remind him of the decorative red mark he painted with a stone pigment on my forehead, indeed, it is proper to remind him of this.
ఏష నిర్యాతితశ్శ్రీమాన్మయా తే వారి సమ్భవః.

ఏతం దృష్ట్వా ప్రహృష్యామి వ్యసనే త్వామివానఘ৷৷5.65.23৷৷


అనఘ sinless one, దివ్యః wonderful, ఏషః this, నిర్యాతితః sent to you, శ్రీమాన్ prosperous one, వారిసమ్భవః born in the ocean, వ్యసనే in sorrow, ఏతమ్ this (Chudamani), మయా I, దృష్టవా gazing, త్వామివ you only, ప్రహృష్యామి was feeling happy.

'O sinless one! tell Rama that this auspicious Chudamani born in the ocean is sent to him and I was gazing at it as if it was him (Rama) and feeling happy.
జీవితం ధారయిష్యామి మాసం దశరథాత్మజ৷৷5.65.24৷৷

ఊర్ధ్వం మాసాన్న జీవేయం రక్షసాం వశమాగతా.


దశరథాత్మజ Dasaratha's son, మాసమ్ one month, జీవితమ్ living, ధారయిష్యామి will hold on to, రక్షసామ్ these demons, వశమ్ captivated by, ఆగతా completion, మాసాత్ after a month, ఊర్ధ్వమ్ more than, న జీవేయమ్ will not live.

'O Son of Dasaratha! I will hold on to life for a month. Captured by the demons, I will not live for more than a month'.
ఇతి మామబ్రవీత్సీతా కృశాఙ్గీ ధర్మచారిణీ৷৷5.65.25৷৷

రావణాన్తః పురే రుద్ధా మృగీవోత్ఫుల్లలోచనా.


కృశాఙ్గీ enfeebled lady, ధర్మచారిణీ following righteous ways, రావణాన్తఃపురే in the inner palace of Ravana, రుద్ధా detained మృగీవ like a doe, ఉత్ఫుల్లలోచనా eyes wide open in fear, సీతా Sita, మామ్ to me, ఇతి this, అబ్రవీత్ said.

"With her limbs emaciated through austerities detained in Ravana's inner palace, eyes wide open in fear, Sita said this to me:
ఏతదేవ మయాఖ్యాతం సర్వం రాఘవ యద్యథా৷৷5.65.26৷৷

సర్వథా సాగరజలే సంతారః ప్రవిధీయతామ్.


రాఘవ Rama, యత్ that which, యథా like that, ఏతత్ happened, సర్వమేవ every thing, మయా by me, ఖ్యాతమ్ has been said, సర్వథా ever, సాగరజలే water of the ocean, సన్తారః means to cross the ocean, ప్రవిధీయతామ్ pay attention to.

"O Rama! I have spoken everything that has happened. We have to pay attention to the means of crossing the ocean."
తౌ జాతాశ్వాసౌ రాజపుత్రౌ విదిత్వా తచ్చాభిజ్ఞానం రాఘవాయ ప్రదాయ.

దేవ్యా చాఖ్యాతం సర్వమేవానుపూర్వ్యాద్వాచా సమ్పూర్ణం వాయుపుత్త్ర శ్శశంస৷৷5.65.27৷৷


వాయుపుత్రః son of the Wind-god, తౌ రాజపుత్త్రౌ the two princes Rama and Lakshmana, జాతాశ్వాసౌ sighing in relief, విదిత్వా knowing, తత్ that, అభిజ్ఞానమ్ identification, రాఘవాయ to Rama, ప్రదాయ communicated, దేవ్యా by Sita, ఆఖ్యాతమ్ having spoken, సర్వమేవ everything, సమ్పూర్ణమ్ completely, ఆనుపూర్వ్యాత్ in an orderly manner, వాచా spoken, శశంస Hanuman.

Coming to know that the two princes were sighing in relief, Hanuman presented the token of identification given by Sita to Rama, after having communicated in full the messsage of Sita in an orderly manner.
ఇత్యార్షే శ్రీమద్రామాయణే వాల్మీకీయ ఆదికావ్యే సున్దరకాణ్డే పఞ్చషష్టితమస్సర్గః৷৷
Thus ends the sixtyfifth sarga of Sundarakanda of the holy Ramayana, the first epic composed by sage Valmiki.
