[Hanuman once again narrates to Rama, Sita's condition.]

ఏవముక్తస్తు హనుమాన్ రాఘవేణ మహాత్మనా.

సీతాయా భాషితం సర్వం న్యవేదయత రాఘవే৷৷5.67.1৷৷


మహాత్మనా great soul, రాఘవేణ to Rama, ఏవమ్ that way, ఉక్తః spoken, హనుమాన్ Hanuman, సీతాయాః Sita's, భాషితమ్ said, సర్వమ్ everything, రాఘవే to Rama, న్యవేదయత related.

Thus asked by Sri Rama, Hanuman repeated everything spoken by Sita to Rama.
ఇదముక్తవతీ దేవీ జానకీ పురుషర్షభ.

పూర్వ వృత్తమభిజ్ఞానం చిత్రకూటే యథాతథమ్৷৷5.67.2৷৷


పురుషర్షభ bull among men, దేవీ queen, జానకీ Janaki, చిత్రకూటే at Chitrakuta, పూర్వవృత్తమ్ incident of the past, అభిజ్ఞానమ్ as an identification, యథాతథమ్ as it is, ఇదమ్ this, ఉక్తవతీ she said.

"O bull among men! queen Janaki related to me as a token of identification an incident that had taken place at Chitrakuta in the past.
సుఖసుప్తా త్వయా సార్ధం జానకీ పూర్వముత్థితా.

వాయస స్సహసోత్పత్య విదదార స్తనాన్తరే৷৷5.67.3৷৷


త్వయా సార్ధమ్ along with you, సుఖసుప్తా lying down happily, జానకీ Janaki, పూర్వమ్ earlier, ఉత్థితా woke up, వాయసః a crow, సహసా swiftly, ఉత్పత్య got up, స్తనాన్తరే on her breast, విదదార scratched.

"When she was lying on your lap happily she awoke early and a crow came swiftly and scratched on her breast.
పర్యాయేణ చ సుప్తస్త్వం దేవ్యఙ్కే భరతాగ్రజ.

పునశ్చ కిల పక్షీ స దేవ్యా జనయతి వ్యథామ్৷৷5.67.4৷৷


భరతాగ్రజ elder brother of Bharata, త్వమ్ you, పర్యాయేణ woke up, దేవ్యఙ్కే on her lap, సుప్తః slept, సః పక్షీ that crow, పునశ్చ again, దేవ్యాః Sita's, వ్యథామ్ hurting, జనయతి కిల started hurting.

"O Bharata's brother, when Sita awoke from sleep you slept on her lap. The same crow again hurt her.
పునః పునరుపాగమ్య విదదార భృశం కిల.

తతస్త్వం బోధితస్తస్యాశ్శోణితేన సముక్షితః৷৷5.67.5৷৷


పునః పునః again and again, ఉపాగమ్య coming over her, భృశమ్ violently, విదదార కిల started scratching, తతః then, త్వమ్ you, తస్యాః her, శోణితేన by blood, సముక్షితః wet by shedding, బోధితః కిల woke you up.

వాయసేన చ తేనైవ సతతం బాధ్యమానయా.

బోధితః కిల దేవ్యా త్వం సుఖసుప్తః పరన్తప৷৷5.67.6৷৷


పరన్తప scorcher of enemies, తేన by that, వాయసేనైవ by the crow, సతతమ్ repeatedly, బాధ్యమానయా pained, దేవ్యా by the divine lady, సుఖసుప్తః sleeping happily, త్వమ్ you, బోధితః కిల woke you up and informed you.

"O scorcher of enemies! pained by the crow hurting her repeatedly, while you were sleeping happily, she woke you up and informed you about it.
తాం తు దృష్ట్వా మహాబాహో దారితాం చ స్తనాన్తరే.

ఆశీవిష ఇవ క్రుద్ధో నిశ్వసన్నభ్యభాషథాః৷৷5.67.7৷৷


మహాబాహో one with strong arms, స్తనాన్తరే from the breasts, దారితామ్ flowing, తామ్ her, దృష్ట్వా seeing, క్రుద్ధః furious, ఆశీవిష ఇవ like a serpent, నిశ్వసన్ sighing, అభ్యభాషథాః you said this.

"Seeing the blood flowing from her breasts you became furious like a hissing serpent and said:
నఖాగ్రైః కేన తే భీరు దారితం తు స్తనాన్తరమ్.

కః క్రీడతి సరోషేణ పఞ్చవక్త్రేణ భోగినా৷৷5.67.8৷৷


భీరు timid, తే you, స్తనాన్తరమ్ from the breasts, కేన who, నఖాగ్రైః with the tip of the nails, దారితమ్ scratched, సరోషేణ furious, పఞ్చవక్త్రేణ భోగినా five-hooded serpent, కః who, క్రీడతి sported.

"You are of timid nature. Who has scratched your breasts with the tip of the nail? Who is sporting with an enraged five-hooded serpent"?
నిరీక్షమాణస్సహసా వాయసం సమవైక్షథాః.

నఖై స్సరుధిరైస్తీక్ష్ణైస్తామేవాభిముఖం స్థితమ్৷৷5.67.9৷৷


నిరీక్షమాణః seeing all over, సరుధిరైః with blood, తీక్ష్ణైః sharp, నఖైః nails, తామేవ of her, అభిముఖమ్ in front of, స్థితమ్ stood, వాయసమ్ crow, సహసా at once, సమవైక్షథాః glanced.

'Seeing all over, at once I glanced at the crow that stood in front of her with sharp blood-stained nails'.
సుతః కిల స శక్రస్య వాయసః పతతాం వరః.

ధరాన్తరచరశ్శీఘ్రం పవనస్య గతౌ సమః৷৷5.67.10৷৷


పతతామ్ among birds, వరః foremost, సః వాయసః that crow, శక్రస్య Indra's, పుత్రః son, కిల moving about, ధరాన్తరగతః all over the earth, శీఘ్రమ్ swiftly, గతౌ flying, పవనస్య wind-god's speed, సమః equal.

'That crow, the foremost of the birds was the son of Indra moving about all over the earth swiftly. His speed matched the Wind-god's.
తతస్తస్మిన్మహాబాహో కోపసంవర్తితేక్షణః.

వాయసే త్వం కృథాః క్రూరాం మతిం మతిమతాం వర৷৷5.67.11৷৷


మహాబాహో long-armed one, మతిమతామ్ very wise one, వర reverred, త్వమ్ you, కోపసంవర్తితేక్షణః anguished, తతః then, తస్మిన్ its, వాయసే the crow's, క్రూరామ్ cruel, మతిమ్ in your mind, కృథాః decision took.

'O long-armed, wise and revered Rama, then in anguish you took a cruel decision'.
స దర్భం సంస్తరాద్గృహ్య బ్రహ్మాస్త్రేణ హ్యయోజయః.

స దీప్త ఇవ కాలాగ్నిర్జజ్వాలాభిముఖః ఖగమ్৷৷5.67.12৷৷


సః he, సంస్తరాత్ from your mat, దర్భమ్ a blade of grass, గృహ్య took out, బ్రాహ్మేణ అస్త్రేణ by the mantra of the weapon of Brahma, యోజయత్ chanted, సః he, దీప్తః blazed, కాలాగ్నిరివ like the fire of the demon's day, ద్విజమ్ bird, అభిముఖః towards the direction, జజ్వాల hurled.

'You took out a blade of grass from your mat and chanted the mantra to invoke the weapon of Brahma (Brahmastra) and hurled it on the crow. It blazed like the fire of the doom's day.
క్షిప్తవాంస్త్వం ప్రదీప్తం హి దర్భం తం వాయసం ప్రతి.

తతస్తు వాయసం దీప్తస్స దర్భోనుజగామ హ৷৷5.67.13৷৷


త్వమ్ yourself, ప్రదీప్తమ్ blazing, తం దర్భమ్ that blade of grass, వాయసం ప్రతి over the crow, క్షిప్తవాన్ burning, తతః then, సః దర్భః that blade of grass, దీప్తః glowing like fire, వాయసమ్ to
the crow, అనుజగామ హ chased.

'You hurled the blazing blade of grass on to the crow. That burning blade of grass chased the crow.
స పిత్రా చ పరిత్యక్తస్సురైశ్చ సమహర్షిభిః.

త్రీన్ లోకాన్ సమ్పరిక్రమ్య త్రాతారం నాధిగచ్ఛతి৷৷5.67.14৷৷


సః he, పిత్రా చ by the father, సమహర్షిభిః even the great sages, సురైశ్చ and gods, పరిత్యక్తః abandoned, త్రీన్ three, లోకాన్ worlds, సమ్పరిక్రమ్య went round also, త్రాతారమ్ saviour, నాధిగచ్ఛతి was not found.

'He was abandoned by his father, even by great sages and gods. Then he went round the three worlds but could not find a saviour.
పునరేవాగతస్త్రస్తస్త్వత్సకాశమరిందమ.

స తం నిపతితం భూమౌ శరణ్యశ్శరణాగతమ్৷৷5.67.15৷৷

వధార్హమపి కాకుత్స్థ కృపయా పర్యపాలయః.


అరిన్దమ destroyer of enemies, త్రస్తః trembling, పునరేవ again, త్వత్సకాశమ్ that crow, ఆగతః came back, శరణ్యః for protection, సః కాకుత్స్థ: to Rama, శరణాగతమ్ seeking protection, భూమౌ on earth, నిపతితమ్ fell down, తమ్ him, వాధర్హమపి that which deserved to be slayed, కృపయా in compassion, పర్యపాలయ: saved.

'O destroyer of enemies! the crow came back again to you trembling seeking protection from you and fell on the ground. Even though it deserved to be slayed, you saved him out of compassion.
మోఘమస్త్రం న శక్యం తు కర్తుమిత్యేవ రాఘవ৷৷5.67.16৷৷

భవాంస్తస్యాక్షి కాకస్య హినస్తి స్మ స దక్షిణమ్.


రాఘవ Rama, అస్త్రమ్ weapon, మోఘమ్ divine one, కర్తుమ్ to withdraw, న శక్యమ్ not possible, ఇత్యేవ therefore, భవాన్ you, తస్య కాకస్య that crow, దక్షిణమ్ అక్షి right eye, హినస్తి స్మ struck.

'O Rama! since a divine weapon cannot be withdrawn, it did strike his right eye'.
రామ త్వాం స నమస్కృత్య రాజ్ఞే దశరథాయ చ৷৷5.67.17৷৷

విసృష్టస్తు తదా కాక ప్రతిపేదే స్వమాలయమ్.


రామ Rama, తదా thereafter, సః కాకః that crow, విసృష్టః having left it without killing, త్వామ్ him, రాజ్ఞే to king, దశరథాయ చ Dasaratha, నమస్కృత్య offered salutations, స్వమ్ to you, ఆలయమ్ his abode, ప్రతిపేదే returned.

'Thereafter that crow left without killing offered salutations to you and king Dasaratha and returned to his abode.
ఏవమస్త్రవిదాం శ్రేష్ఠస్సత్త్వవాన్ శీలవానపి৷৷5.67.18৷৷

కిమర్థమస్త్రం రక్షస్సు న యోజయతి రాఘవః.


శీలవానపి of good conduct, రాఘవ Rama, ఏవమ్ that way, అస్త్రవిదామ్ among wielders of weapons, శ్రేష్ఠః foremost, సత్యవాన్ truthful, బలవానపి powerful, రక్షస్సు on demons, అస్త్రమ్ weapons, కిమర్థమ్ for what reason, న యోజయతి not directing.

'You are efficient, foremost among wielders of weapons, truthful and powerful. Why are you not directing weapons against the demons?
న నాగా నాపి గన్ధర్వా నాసురా న మరుద్గణాః৷৷5.67.19৷৷

న చ సర్వే రణే శక్తా రామం ప్రతిసమాసితుమ్.


రణే in war, రామం ప్రతి to face Rama, ప్రతిసమాసితుమ్ to stand in front of you, నాగాః nagas, న శక్తాః not possible, గన్ధర్వాః అపి even gandharvas, న అసురాః not even asuras, న not, మరుద్గణాః Marutas, న not, సర్వే all, న not possible.

'It is not possible for nagas, gandharvas, even asuras or Marutas to confront Rama in war.
తస్య వీర్యవతః కశ్చిద్యద్యస్తి మయి సమ్భ్రమః৷৷5.67.20৷৷

క్షిప్రం సునిశితైర్బాణైర్హన్యతాం యుధి రావణః.


వీర్యవతః very valiant one, తస్య his, మయి my, సమ్భ్రమః anxiety, అస్తి యది if he has, సునిశితైః sharp, బాణైః arrows, రావణః Ravana, క్షిప్రమ్ immediately, యుధి in battle, హన్యతామ్ will slay.

'If you have any anxiety about me, you will certainly slay Ravana in the battle immediately with your sharp arrows'.
భ్రాతురాదేశమాజ్ఞాయ లక్ష్మణో వా పరన్తపః৷৷5.67.21৷৷

స కిమర్థం నరవరో న మాం రక్షతి రాఘవః.


పరన్తపః scorcher of enemies, నరవరః best of men, రాఘవః Rama, సః లక్ష్మణో వా or even Lakshmana, భ్రాతుః brother's, ఆదేశమ్ instruction, ఆజ్ఞాయ getting, మామ్ me, కిమర్థమ్ for what reason, న రక్షతి not protecting me.

'For what reason is the the scorcher of enemies, Lakshmana, the best of men also does not protect me at the behest of Rama, his brother?
శక్తౌ తౌ పురుషవ్యాఘ్రౌ వాయ్వగ్నిసమతేజసౌ ৷৷5.67.22৷৷

సురాణామపి దుర్ధర్షౌ కిమర్థం మాముపేక్షతః.


శక్తౌ in power, వాయ్వగ్నిసమతేజసౌ equal to wind and fire, పురుషవ్యాఘ్రౌ tigers among men, తౌ they both, సురాణామ్ suras, దుర్ధర్షౌ యది అపి being even unassailable, మామ్ me, కిమర్థమ్ why, ఉపేక్షతః neglecting.

'Why are the two tigers among men whose power is like that of wind and fire and who are unassailable even to suras are neglecting me?
మమైవ దుష్కృతం కిఞ్చిన్మహదస్తి న సంశయః৷৷5.67.23৷৷

సమర్థౌ సహితౌ యన్మాం నావేక్షేతే పరన్తపౌ.


మమైవ have I, మహత్ great, కిఞ్చిత్ any, దుష్కృతమ్ sin, అస్తి done, సంశయః doubt, న no, యత్ that which, సమర్థావపి even though capable, పరన్తపౌ the scorchers of enemies, తౌ they both, మామ్ my, న అవేక్షేతే not doing so.

'Have I done any great sin because of which even though both the scorchers of enemies are capable, they are not doing so?'
వైదేహ్యా వచనం శ్రుత్వా కరుణం సాశ్రు భాషితమ్.

పునరప్యహమార్యాం తామిదం వచనమబ్రువమ్৷৷5.67.24৷৷


కరుణమ్ piteous, సాశ్రుభాషితమ్ those good words, వైదేహ్యాః of Vaidehi, వచనమ్ words, శ్రుత్వా on hearing, అహమ్ I, పునరపి once again, తామ్ ఆర్యామ్ her the noble one, ఇదమ్ these, వచనమ్ words, అబ్రవమ్ said.

"On hearing Vaidehi's piteous words, I once again said this to the noble lady:
త్వచ్ఛోకవిముఖో రామో దేవి సత్యేన తే శపే৷৷5.67.25৷৷

రామే దుఃఖాభిభూతే తు లక్ష్మణః పరితప్యతే.


దేవి O divine lady, రామః Rama, త్వచ్ఛోకవిముఖః out of grief not interested in any thing, సత్యేన truly, తే to you, శపే swear, రామే Rama, దుఃఖాభిపన్నే filled with sorrow, లక్ష్మణః చ and Lakshmana, పరితప్యతే deeply afflicted.

'O divine lady! I swear to you on my truthfulness, that out of grief for you Rama is not interested in anything else and Lakshmana is deeply afflicted because Rama is overhelmed with grief.
కథఞ్చిద్భవతీ దృష్టా న కాలః పరిశోచితుమ్৷৷5.67.26৷৷

అస్మిన్ముహూర్తే దుఃఖానామన్తం ద్రక్ష్యసి భామిని.


భామిని O lovely lady!, కథఞ్చిత్ somehow, భవతీ you, దృష్టా saw, పరిదేవితుమ్ for lamentation, కాలః time, న not, ఇమమ్ this, ముహూర్తమ్ moment, దుఃఖానామ్ grief, అన్తమ్ end, ద్రక్ష్యసి will see.

'O lovely lady! somehow I could discover you. This is not the moment for lamentation.Your grief will end.
తావుభౌ నరశార్దూలౌ రాజపుత్రావనిన్దితౌ৷৷5.67.27৷৷

త్వద్దర్శనకృతోత్సాహౌ లఙ్కాం భస్మీకరిష్యతః.


నరశార్దూలౌ tigers among men, అనిన్దితౌ blameless, మహాబలౌ mighty, త్వద్దర్శనకృతోత్సాహౌ eager to see you, ఉభౌ both, తౌ రాజపుత్రౌ the two princes, లఙ్కామ్ to Lanka, భస్మీకరిష్యతః will reduce to ashes.

'The two princes, tigers among men are blameles. They are anxious to see you. They will reduce this Lanka into ashes.
హత్వా చ సమరే రౌద్రం రావణం సహ బాన్ధవమ్৷৷5.67.28৷৷

రాఘవస్త్వాం వరారోహే స్వాం పురీం నయతే ధ్రువమ్.


వరారోహే fair-hipped lady, రాఘవః Rama, రౌద్రమ్ fearsome, సహబాన్ధవమ్ and his ralatives, రావణమ్ Ravana, సమరే in war, హత్వా చ and slay, త్వామ్ you, స్వాం పురీమ్ his city, నయతే take you, ధ్రువమ్ certain.

'O fair-hipped lady! Rama will slay fearsome Ravana and all his relatives and take you to his city. It is certain.
యత్తు రామో విజానీయాదభిజ్ఞానమనిన్దితే৷৷5.67.29৷৷

ప్రీతిసఞ్జననం తస్య ప్రదాతుం త్వమిహార్హసి.


అనిన్దితే O blameless one!, రామః Rama, యత్ that which, విజానీయాత్ he knows, తస్య its, ప్రీతిసఞ్జననమ్ that which gives happiness, అభిజ్ఞానమ్ knowing, ఇహ here, దాతుమ్ to give, త్వమ్ you, అర్హసి is proper for you.

'O blameless lady! you should give me that which he would be glad to recognise as a token.'
సాభివీక్ష్య దిశస్సర్వా వేణ్యుద్గ్రథితముత్తమమ్৷৷5.67.30৷৷

ముక్త్వా వస్త్రాద్దదౌ మహ్యం మణిమేతం మహాబల.


మహాబల mighty Rama, సా she, సర్వాః all, దిశః directions, అభివీక్ష్య glancing at, వేణ్యుద్గ్రథితమ్ that which is worn on her hair, ఉత్తమమ్ best one, ఏతం మణిమ్ this gem, వస్త్రాత్ from her cloth, ముక్త్వా untied, మహ్యమ్ to me, దదౌ gave.

"O mighty Rama!, she glanced at all directions and untied the end of her garment in which she had this best jewel worn on her hair preserved and gave it to me.
ప్రతిగృహ్య మణిం దివ్యం తవ హేతో రఘూద్వహ৷৷5.67.31৷৷

శిరసా తాం ప్రణమ్యార్యామహమాగమనే త్వరే.


రఘూద్వహ foremost among the Raghus, దివ్యమ్ wonderful, మణిమ్ gem, తవ హేతోః for your sake, ప్రతిగృహ్య took, ఆర్యామ్ from the noble lady, తామ్ her, శిరసా bowing down, ప్రణమ్య after saluting, అహమ్ I, ఆగమనే returned, త్వరే quickly.

"O foremost among the Raghus! I took that wonderful gem for your sake from the noble lady and offered her salutations, bowing my head, and returned quickly৷৷
గమనే చ కృతోత్సాహమవేక్ష్య వరవర్ణినీ৷৷5.67.32৷৷

వివర్ధమానం చ హి మామువాచ జనకాత్మజా.


వరవర్ణినీ of fine complexion, జనకాత్మజా Janaka's daughter, గమనే to start, కృతోత్సాహమ్ with
eagerness, వివర్ధమానం చ increasing, మామ్ me, ఆవేక్ష్య seeing, ఉవాచ spoke.

"Seeing me eager to depart and growing in size, the loving daughter of Janaka said.
అశ్రుపూర్ణముఖీ దీనా బాష్పసన్దిగ్ధభాషిణీ৷৷5.67.33৷৷

మమోత్పతనసమ్భ్రాన్తా శోకవేగసమాహతా.


అశ్రుపూర్ణముఖీ face filled with tears, దీనా dejected, బాష్పసన్దిగ్ధభాషిణీ throat choked with tears, మమ me, ఉత్పతనసమ్భ్రాన్తా despondent at my departue, శోకవేగసమాహతా shedding tears profusely.

"She was dejected. Her face was filled with tears. Despondent at my departure, she shed tears profusely and said:
హనుమన్ సింహసంకాశావుభౌ తౌ రామలక్ష్మణౌ৷৷5.67.34৷৷

సుగ్రీవఞ్చ సహామాత్యం సర్వాన్ బ్రూయా హ్యనామయమ్.


హనుమన్ Hanuman, సింహసంకాశౌ resembling lion, తౌ రామలక్ష్మణౌ both Rama and Lakshmana, ఉభౌ both, సహామాత్యమ్ and his ministers, సుగ్రీవఞ్చ and to Sugriva, సర్వాన్ to all, అనామయమ్ my welfare, బ్రూయాః tell.

'Hanuman! tell both Rama and Lakshman who are like two lions, Sugriva and his ministers about my welfare.
యథా చ స మహాబాహుర్మాం తారయతి రాఘవః.

అస్మాద్ధుఃఖామ్బుసంరోధాత్త్వం సమాధాతుమర్హసి৷৷5.67.35৷৷


మహాబాహుః strong-armed one, సః రాఘవః that Rama, అస్మాత్ from this, దుఃఖామ్బుసంరోధాత్ ocean of sorrow, యథా that way, తారయతి to relieve, త్వమ్ you, సమాధాతుమ్ make arangements, అర్హసి is right.

'You may go and tell mighty Rama to make arrangements to relieve me from this
ocean of sorrow.
ఇమం చ తీవ్రం మమ శోకవేగం రక్షోభిరేభిః పరిభర్త్సనం చ.

బ్రూయాస్తు రామస్య గతస్సమీపమ్ శివశ్చ తేధ్వాస్తు హరిప్రవీర৷৷5.67.36৷৷


హరిప్రవీర foremost among the heroic monkeys, రామస్య to Rama, సమీపమ్ near, గతః having gone, మమ my, ఇమమ్ this, తీవ్రమ్ intense, శోకవేగమ్ intensity of my sorrow, ఏభిః this also, రక్షోభిః she-demons women, పరిభర్త్సనం చ threatening me, బ్రూయాః should tell, తే you, అధ్వా speeding on journey, శివః auspicious, అస్తు let it be.

'O foremost among the heroic monkeys! approaching Rama, you should tell him the intensity of my sorrow and the threatening of the she-demons. Let your journey be speedy and auspicious.'
ఏతత్తవార్యా నృపరాజసింహ సీతా వచః ప్రాహ విషాదపూర్వమ్.

ఏతచ్చ బుద్ధ్వా గదితం మయా త్వం శ్రద్ధత్స్వ సీతాం కుశలాం సమగ్రామ్৷৷5.67.37৷৷


పరాజసింహ lion among kings, ఆర్యా noble, సీతా Sita, విషాదపూర్వమ్ sorrowful words, ఏతత్ వచః all these words, తవ your, ఆహ spoken, మయా my, గదితమ్ reflecting, తత్ all this, బుద్ధ్వా make him know, సీతామ్ Sita, సమగ్రామ్ in all respects, కుశలామ్ safe, శ్రద్ధత్స్వ have faith.

"O lion among kings! noble Sita has spoken these words in grief: 'Make him know all this and tell him that Sita is faithful and safe in all respects.'
ఇత్యార్షే శ్రీమద్రామాయణే వాల్మీకీయ ఆదికావ్యే సున్దరకాణ్డే సప్తషష్టితమస్సర్గః৷৷
Thus ends the sixtyseventh sarga of Sundarakanda of the holy Ramayana, the first epic composed by sage Valmiki.
