Sloka & Translation

[Rama laments over Lakshmana's unconscious state. Hanuman is directed by Sushena to Himalayas and get herbs for treating Lakshmana. Hanuman gets the herbs and on inhalation of the herbs Lakshmana recovers.]

śakatayāvinihataṅdṛṣaṭavārāvaṇēnabalīyasā .

lakaṣamaṇaṅsamarēśūraṅrūdhiraughaparipalutama ।।6.102.1।।

sa datatavātumulaṅyudadhaṅrāvaṇasayadurātamanaḥ .

visṛjananēvabāṇaughāna suṣēṇamidamabaravīta ।।6.102.2।।


balīyasā exceedingly mighty, rāvaṇēna by Ravana, śakatayā by the javelin, vinihatama struck, samarē in fight, śūrama heroic, rūdhiraughaparipalutama soaked in blood, lakaṣamaṇama Lakshmana, dṛṣaṭavā seeing, saḥhe, durātamanaḥevil minded, rāvaṇasaya Ravana's, tumulama intense, yudadhama fight, datatavā given, bāṇaughāna arrows, visṛjananēva even discharging, suṣēṇama Sushena, idama this, abaravīta spoke

Seeing Lakshmana struck by exceedingly mighty, evil minded Ravana's javelin and soaked in blood Rama giving intense fight by discharging arrows also spoke as follows to Sushena.
ēṣarāvaṇavīrayēṇalakaṣamaṇaḥpatitōbhuviḥ .

sarapavacacēṣaṭatēvīrōbhūmauśōkamudirīyana ।।6.102.3।।

lajajatīvahivīrayaṅbharaśayatīvakarādadhanuḥ .

sāyakāvayavasīdanatidṛṣaṭirabhāṣapavaśaṅgatā ।।6.102.6।।

viṣaṭananataṅtuduḥkhārataṅmaramaṇayabhihataṅbhṛśama ।।6.102.8।।

duḥkhēnamahatāviṣaṭōdhayānaśōkaparāyaṇaḥ ।।6.102.9।।

acakaṣuraviṣayaśacanadaraḥkāṅparītiṅjanayiṣayati ।।6.102.11।।


śūra hero, vijayōpi if victorious, mē for me, pariyāya loving, na upakalapatē not give joy, acakaṣuraviṣayaḥ for one who has lost vision, canadaraḥ moon, kāma desire, parītima janayiṣayati What pleasure will it give

ahamapayupayāsayāmitathaivainaṅyamakaṣayama ।।6.102.13।।


mahādayutiḥ endowed with splendour, vanama forest, yānatama followed, māma me, yathaiva in the same way, anuyāti follow, ahamapi I also, tathaiva in the same way, ēnama, yamakaṣayama god of death, upayāsayāmi follow him

'Lakshmana who is endowed with splendour followed me to the forest. In the same way I will follow him to the god of death.'
iṣaṭabanadhujanōnitayaṅmāṅ sa nitayamanuvarataḥ .

imāmavasathāṅgamitōrākaṣasaiḥkūṭayōdhibhiḥ ।।6.102.14।।

taṅtudēśaṅ na paśayāmiyatarabharātāsahōdaraḥ ।।6.102.15।।

vivēṣaṭamānaṅkaruṇamacachavasanataṅpunaḥpunaḥ ।।6.102.16।।

rāmamāśavāsayanavīrasuṣēnōvākayamabaravīta

kathaṅvakaṣayāmayahaṅtavamabāṅsumitarāṅputaravatasalāma ।।6.102.17।।

padamapataratalauhasatausuparasananē ca lōcanē .

māviṣādaṅmṛkṛthāvīrasaparāṇō.yamarinadama .


viśamapatē such form, vīra heroes, gatāsūnāma ceased of life, rūpama form, īdṛśaba marks, na dṛśayatē not seen, arinadama tamer of foes, ayama this, saparāṇaḥ those who are alive, viṣādama grief, mākṛthāḥI tell you

"O hero! Those who cease to live will not have such appearance and signs. He who is a tamer of foes is alive. I tell you, do not grieve."
ā khayāsatituparasupatasayasarasatagātarasayabhūtalē ।।6.102.21।।

sōcachavāsaṅhṛdayaṅvīrakamapamānaṅmuhuramuhuḥ .

"From the movement of his limbs and throbbing of his heart again and again it is known that he is alive."

samīpasathamuvācēdaṅhanūmanataṅmahākapima .

savaraṇakaraṇīṅnāmanāsāvaraṇayakaraṇīṅtathā .

sañajīvakaraṇīṅvīrasanadhānīṅ ca mahauṣadhīma ।।6.102.25।।

sañajīvanāradhaṅvīrasayalakaṣamaṇasayamahātamanaḥ .

itayēvamukatōhanumānagatavācauṣathiparavatama ।।6.102.26।।

cinatāmabhayagamacharacīmānajānaṅ satā mahauṣadhīḥ .

idamēvagamiṣayāmigṛhītavāśikharaṅgirēḥ .


amitaujasaḥ highly brilliant, tasayamārutēḥ that Maruthi, budadhi: intellect, samutapanā sprung, girēḥon mountain, idama thus, śikharamēva peak, gṛhītavā seized, gamiṣayāmiwill take

Highly brilliant Hanuman used his intellect and thought to seize the peak of the mountain on which herbs had sprung.
asamiṅsatuśikharējātāmōṣadhiṅtāṅsukhāvahāma ।।6.102.28।।

paratarakēṇāvagacachāmisuṣēṇōhayavamabaravīta .


sukhāvahāma that which does good, tāma to him, ōṣadhima herb, asamina in this, śikharē peak, jātāma growing, paratarakēṇa reasoning, avagacachāmi is known, suṣēṇaḥ Sushena, ēvama in that way, abaravīta hi has told

By reasoning it is known that the herb which is good for him is grown in this peak, for Sushena said so.
agṛhayayadigacachāmiviśalayakaraṇīmahama ।।6.102.29।।

kālātayayēnadōṣaḥsayādavaikalabayaṅ ca mahadabhavēta .

āsādayaparavataśarēṣaṭhaṅparakaramayagirēśaśiraḥ .

phulalanānātarugaṇaṅsamutapāṭayamahābalaḥ ।।6.102.31।।

gṛhītavāhariśāradūlōhasatābhayāṅsamatōlayata .


mahābalaḥ mighty, hariśāradūlaḥ tiger among Vanaras, hanumāna Hanuman, iti thus, sañacinataya thinking, kaṣiparama quickly, gatavāgoing, paravataśarēṣaṭhama foremost of the mountains, āsādaya reached, girēḥ mountain, śikharaṅ top, hasatābhayāma with both hands, gṛhītavāseized, tariḥthrice, parakamapaya shaking, phulalanānātarugaṇama with plants, flowers in bloom, samutapāṭaya uprooted, mahābalaḥ mighty, samatōlayata balanced

Hanuman, the mighty among the Vanaras, thinking so quickly reached the foremost of the mountains, seized the mountain with both hands by shaking it thrice, uprooted the plants with flowers in bloom and balanced it with his hands.
sanīlamivajīmūtaṅtōyapūraṇaṅnabhasatalāta ।।6.102.32।।

utapapātagṛhītavātuhanūmāna śikharaṅgirēḥ .


saḥhanūmāna that Hanuman, tōyapūraṇama filled with water, nīlama bluish, jīmūtama iva like the wind, girēḥśikharama mountain peak, gṛhītavā holding, nabhasatalāta from the earth surface, utapapāta went into air

Like a dark cloud filled with water carried by wind, Hanuman held the mountain peak and went in the air from the surface of the earth.
samāgamayamahāvēgaḥsaṅnayasayaśikharaṅgirēḥ ।।6.102.33।।

viśaramayakiñacidadhanumānasuṣēṇamidamabaravīta .

dṛṣaṭavāhanūmataḥkaramasurairapisuduṣakarama .

tataḥsaṅakaṣōdayitavātāmōṣadhiṅvānarōtatamaḥ ।।6.102.37।।

lakaṣamaṇasayadadaunasatasasuṣēṇasasumahādayutiḥ .


tataḥ thereafter, vānarōtatamaḥ foremost of Vanaras, sumahādayutiḥ brilliant, suṣēṇaḥ Sushena, tāma them, ōṣadhima herbs, saṅakaṣōdayitavā crushed, lakaṣamaṇasaya Lakshmana's, nasataḥ nose, dadau dropped

Thereafter, Sushena the foremost of the Vanaras, a brilliant one crushed the herbs and dropped the extract into Lakshmana's nose.
viśalayasasasamāgharāyalakaṣamaṇaḥparavīrahā ।।6.102.38।।

viśalayōvirujaśaśīgharamudatiṣaṭhanamahītalāta .


saśalayaḥ pained with piercing of that javelin, paravīrahā destroyer of enemies, saḥ he, lakaṣamaṇaḥ Lakshmana, samāgharāya inhaling, viśalayaḥ devoid of javelin, virujaḥ rid of pain, mahītalāta from the ground, śīgharama quickly, udatiṣaṭhata got up

The destroyer of enemies, Lakshmana, who was pained by the javelin stuck in his body, on inhaling the herb, was devoid of javelin and rid of pain. He got up from the ground.
tamutathitaṅtuharayōbhūtalātaparēkaṣayalakaṣamaṇama ।।6.102.39।।

sādhusāvadhitisuparītālakaṣamaṇaṅparatayapūjayana .


harayaḥ Vanaras, bhūtalāta from the surface of the ground, utathitama arisen, taṅlakaṣamaṇama that Lakshmana, dṛṣaṭavā seeing, suparītāḥ very affectionately, sādhusādhuiti well done well done, lakaṣamaṇama Lakshmana, paratayapūjayana in turn offered prayers

tāṅparatijañāṅparatijañāyapurāsatayaparākarama ।।6.102.44।।

laghuḥkaśacidivāsatatavōnaivaṅvakatumihārahasi .


satayaparākarama of truthful valour, purā earlier, tāṅparatijañāma you having made a vow, paratijañāya vow, asatatavaḥ weak minded, laghuḥ lowly, kaśacidiva spiritless, iha now, ē vama this way, vakatuma speaking, na arahasi not appropriate

"You who are of truthful valour having made a vow, now speaking in this way, like a lowly person is not appropriate."
na hiparatijañāṅkuravanativitathāṅsatayavādinaḥ ।।6.102.45।।

lakaṣaṇaṅhimahatatavasayaparatijañāparipālanama .


satayavādinaḥ those who speak truth, paratijañāma vows, vitathāma futile, na kuravanatihi never make, paratijañāparipālanama for fulfilment of vow, mahatatavasaya greatness, lakaṣaṇaṅhi mark of vow

'Those who speak truth never fail their vows futile for fulfilment of the vows is a mark of greatness for them'.
nairāśayamupaganatuṅ ca nālaṅtēmatakṛtē.nagha ।।6.102.46।।

vadhēnarāvaṇasayādayaparatijañāmanupālaya .


anagha sinless, matakṛtē on my account, nairāśayama to despair, upaganatuṅ ca to give up, tē you, nālamaredeem, adaya now, rāvaṇasaya Ravana's, vadhēna destruction, paratijañāma vow, anupālaya fulfill

"O Sinless Rama! To be in despair on my account is not fair. Destroy Ravana and redeem your vow."
najīvanayāsayatēśatarusatavabāṇapathaṅgataḥ ।।6.102.47।।

naradatasatīkaṣaṇadaṅṣaṭarasayasiṅhasayēvamahāgajaḥ .


tava your, bāṇapathama victim of your arrow, gataḥnot alive, śataruḥenemy, naradhataḥroaring, tīkaṣaṇadaṅṣaṭarasayapossessing sharp teeth, siṅhasayalion's, mahāgajaḥiva like an elephant, jīvana live, na yāsayatē not possible

" A victim of your arrow can not be alive just as an elephant fallen into the clutch of a roaring lion with sharp teeth is not possible to live."
ahaṅtuvadhamicachāmiśīgharamasayadurātamanaḥ ।।6.102.48।।

yāvadasataṅ na yātayēṣakṛtakaramādivākaraḥ .


ēṣaḥ, divākaraḥ Sun, kṛtakaramā having completed his day, yāvata before, asatama sets, na yātibefore departing, asaya his, durātamanaḥevil minded, vadhama destruction, śīgharama quickly, ahama I, icachāmi wish

"I wish to see the destruction of this evil minded one quickly before the sun completes the day and sets."
yadivadhamicachasirāvaṇasayasaṅakhayēyadi ca kṛtāṅhitavēcachasiparatijañāma .

yaditavarājasutābhilāṣaārayakuru ca vacōmamaśīgharamadayavīra ।।6.102.49।।

"O hero! Noble one! If you wish to kill Ravana in the war and fulfill your vow and longing for the daughter of Janaka you do quickly What I say."
