[Dreadful war takes place between Rama and Ravana. Celestial bodies watch the war from the sky.]

tasayakarudadhasayavadanaṅdṛṣaṭavārāmasayadhīmataḥ ।।6.104.1।।

saravabhūtānivitarēsuḥparākamapata ca mēdinī .


karudadhasaya enraged, dhīmataḥ wise, tasayarāmasaya that Rama's, vadanama countenance, dṛṣaṭavā seeing, saravabhūtāni all beings, vitarēsuḥ frightened, mēdinī ca on earth, parākamapata were shaken

Seeing enraged wise Rama's countenance, all beings on earth were shaken in fear.
siṅhaśāradūlānaśailasasañacacālacaladadarumaḥ .

babhūvacāpikaṣubhitaḥsamudaraḥsaritāmapatiḥ ।।6.104.2।।


siṅhaśāradūlavāna abode of lions and tigers, caladadarumaḥ trees shook, śailaḥ mountains, sañacacāla, saritāmapatiḥ king of rivers, samudaraḥ ca and ocean, api also, kaṣubhitaḥ agitated, babhūva became

The mountains that were abode of lions and tigers with trees shook and the ocean, the king of rivers, was seen agitated.
kharāśacakharaniraghōṣāgaganēparuṣāghanāḥ .

autapātikāninaradanatasasamanatātaparicakaramuḥ ।।6.104.3।।


kharāḥ donkeys, kharaniraghōṣāḥ emitting harsh sound, paruṣāḥ dreadful, autapātikāni portentous, ghanāḥ clouds, gaganē in the sky, samanatāta all over, paricakaramuḥ went round

Dreadful and portentous clouds went in circles all over sky looking like donkeys emitting harsh sounds.
rāmaṅdṛṣaṭavāsusaṅakarudadhamutapātāṅśacaivasudāruṇāna .

vitarēsusasaravabhūtānirāvaṇasayābhavadabhayama ।।6.104.4।।


susaṅakarudadhama highly furious, rāmama Rama, sudāruṇāna very dreadful, utapātāna ca rising up, dṛṣaṭavā seeing, saravabhūtāni all beings, vitarēsuḥ frightened, rāvaṇasaya of Ravana, bhayama fear, abhavata was created

Rama became highly furious, most dreadful sounds were rising up and all beings were frightened. Ravana was also afraid.
vimānasathāsatadādēvāganadharavāśacamahōragāḥ .

ṛṣidāvanadaitayāśacagarutamanataśacakhēcarāḥ ।।6.104.5।।

dadṛśusatētadāyudadhaṅlōkasamavaratasaṅsathitama .

nānāparaharaṇairabhīmaiśaśūrayōsasamaparayudhayatōḥ ।।6.104.6।।


tadā then, bhīmaiḥ frightening, nānāparaharaṇaiḥ different kinds of weapons, samaparayuthayatōḥ together clashing, śūrayōḥ arrows, lōkasamavaratasaṅsathitama dissolution of the world, yudadhama war, tadā then, vimānasathāḥ from the aerial chariots, dēvāḥ Devas, ganadharavāśaca Gandharvas, mahōragāḥ great Nagas, ṛṣidāvanadaitayāśaca sages, devils and giants khēcarāḥ birds, tē they, garutamanataśaca eagles, dadṛśuḥ watched.

Then from the aerial chariots, Devas, Gandharvas, great Nagas, sages, devils, giants, birds, and eagles watched the duel war that went on between the heroes clashing with different kinds of frightening weapons like at the dissolution of the world.
ūcusasurāsurāsasaravētadāvigarahamāgatāḥ .

parēkaṣamāṇāmaharayudadhaṅvākayaṅbhakatayāparahṛṣaṭavata ।।6.104.7।।


tadā then, mahata great, yudadhama war, parēkaṣamāṇāḥ watching, saravē all, surāsurāḥ Suras and Asuras, vigarahama losing control, āgatāḥ overcome, parahṛṣaṭavata happy, bhakatayā with devotion, vākayama these words, ūcuḥ spoke

Then watching the great war, all the Suras, Asuras, lost control and overcome with happiness spoke these words with devotion.
daśagarīvaṅjayētayāhurasurāḥsamavasathitāḥ .

dēvārāmamavōcaṅsatētavaṅjayētipunaḥpunaḥ ।।6.104.8।।


samavasathitāḥ firmly established, asurāḥ Asura, daśagarīvama Ten headed, jayaiti be victorious, āhuḥ be, tē the, dēvāḥDevas, tavama for their part, jaya victory, iti thus, punaḥpunaḥ again and again, rāmama to Rama, āhuḥ be

paraharatukāmōduṣaṭātamāsapṛśana paraharaṇaṅmahata ।।6.104.9।।

vajarasāraṅmahānādaṅsaravaśatarunibarahaṇama .

śailaśṛṅaganibhaiḥkūṭaiśacitatadṛṣaṭibhayāvahama ।।6.104.10।।

sadhūmamivatīkaṣaṇāgaraṅyugānatāganicamōpamama .

atiraudaramanāsādayaṅkālēnāpidurāsadama ।।6.104.11।।

tarāsanaṅsaravabhūtānāṅdāraṇaṅbhēdanaṅtathā .

paradīpatamivarōṣēṇaśūlaṅjagarāharāvaṇaḥ ।।6.104.12।।

In the battlefield surrounded by Rakshasa heroes, enraged valiant Ravana took up the trident holding it in the middle.
samudayamayamahākāyōnanādayudhibhairavama .

saṅrakatanayanōrōṣātasavasainayamabhiharaṣayana ।।6.104.14।।


mahākāyaḥ of gigantic body, samudayamaya raising the trident, rōṣāta in anger, saṅrakatanayanaḥ red eyed, savasainayama his army, abhiharaṣayana excessive joy, yudhi in war, bhairavama formidable, nanāda loud noise

Gigantic Ravana, eyes turned red in anger, raising the trident made formidable noise to make his army extremely joyful in the battlefield.
pṛthivīṅcānatarikaṣaṅ ca diśaśacaparadiśasatathā .

parākamapayatatadāśabadōrākaṣasēnadarasayadāruṇaḥ ।।6.104.15।।


tadā then, rākaṣasēnadarasaya Rakshasa king's, dāruṇaḥ horrible, śabadhaḥ sound, pṛthivīṅ ca earth also, anatarikaṣaṅ ca even the heavens, diśaśaca quarters, tathā similarly, paradiśaśaca corners, parākamapayata trembled

By the horrible sound made by the Rakshasa king, the earth, even the heavens, similarly the quarters and corners trembled.
atinādasayayadānēnatēnatasayadurātamanaḥ .

saravabhūtānivitarēsusasāgaraśacaparacukaṣubhē ।।6.104.16।।


atikāyasaya of loud roar, durātamanaḥ evil minded, tasaya his, tēnavādēna by that sound, saravabhūtāni all living beings, vitarēsuḥ feared, sāgaraśaca even the ocean, paracukaṣubhē set to commotion

By the loud roar of the evil-minded Ravana's sound, all living beings feared and even the ocean was set to tremble.
sa gṛhītavāmahāvīrayaśaśūlaṅtadarāvaṇōmahata .

vinadayasumahānādaṅrāmaṅparuṣamabaravīta ।।6.104.17।।


mahāvīrayaḥ extraordinary valour, saḥhe, rāvaṇaḥ Ravana, mahata great, tata śūlama that trident, gṛhītavā taking hold of, sumahānādama loud tone, vinadaya addressed, rāmama to Rama, paruṣama harshly, abaravīta spoke

Ravana who was endowed with extraordinary valour, taking hold of the trident, addressed Rama harshly in a loud tone.
śūlō.yaṅvajarasārasatērāmarōṣānamayōdayataḥ .

tavabharātṛsahāyasayasamayaka parāṇāna hariṣayati ।।6.104.18।।


rāma Rama!, rōṣāta in fury, mayā my, udayataḥ taken, vajarasāraḥ like thunderbolt, ayaṅśūlaḥ this trident, bharātṛsahāyasaya along with your brother's, tava you, parāṇāna life, samayaka help, hariṣayati will take away life

"O Rama! This thunderbolt like trident taken up by me now will take away your life along with your brother's."
rakaṣasāmadayaśūrāṇāṅnihatānāṅcamūmukhē .

tavāṅnihatayaraṇaśalāghīkarōmitarasāsamama ।।6.104.19।।


raṇaśalāghī commend warfare, adaya today, tarasā quickly, tavāma you, nihataya kill, camūmukhē in the forefront of army, nihatānāma those killed, śūrāṇāma heroes, rakaṣasāma Rakshasas, samama along with, karōmi will do

"I, who commend warfare, will quickly kill you today in the forefront of the army and join you with Rakshasa heroes who were killed."
tiṣaṭhēdānīṅnihamanitavāmēṣaśūlēnarāghava .

ēvamukatavā sa cikaṣēpatacachūlaṅrākaṣasādhipaḥ ।।6.104.20।।


rāghava Raghava, tiṣaṭha stay, ēṣaḥ there, idānīma now itself, śūlēna with the trident, tavāma you, nihamani kill, ēvama that way, ukatavā having spoken, saḥ he, rākaṣasādhipaḥ Rakshasa king, tata that, śūlama trident, cikaṣēpa hurled

tadarāvaṇakarānamukataṅvidayunamālāsamāvṛtama .

aṣaṭaghaṇaṭaṅmahānādaṅviyadagatamaśōbhata ।।6.104.21।।


rāvaṇakarāta from Ravana's hand, mukatama discharged, vidayunamālāsamāvṛtama with circle of lightning and glowing covered, aṣaṭaghaṇaṭama eight bells, mahānādama making loud noise, tata that, viyadagatama the atmosphere, aśōbhata shone

The trident discharged from Ravana's hand, made circles of lightning, and covered the atmosphere with its glow and shine along with eight bells making loud sounds.
tacachūlaṅrāghavōdṛṣaṭavājavalanataṅghōradaraśanama .

sasarajaviśikhānarāmaśacāpamāyamayavīrayavāna ।।6.104.22।।


rāghavaḥ Raghava, vīrayavāna valiant, rāmaḥRama, javalanatama glowing, ghōradaraśanama horrible to look at, tata that, śūlama trident, dṛṣaṭavā seeing, cāpa bow, ayamaya taking up, viśikhāna number of arrows, sasaraja loosed

Valiant Raghava, seeing the glowing trident that was horrible to look at, loosed a number of arrows at it.
āpatanataṅśaraughēṇavārayāmāsarāghavaḥ .

utapatanataṅyugānatānagiṅjalaughairivavāsavaḥ ।।6.104.23।।


āpatanatama intercepted, rāghavaḥ by Raghava, utapatanatama coming towards, yugānatānagima at the end of universal dissolution, vāsavaḥ fire, jalaughaiḥiva like the flow of water, śaraughēṇa with his arrows, vārayāmāsa obstructed

Raghava intercepted the trident, just as the fire was obstructed by the flow of water, at the time of universal dissolution, and obstructed.
niradadāha sa tānabāṇānarāmakāramukaniḥsṛtāna .

rāvaṇasayamahāna śūlaḥpataṅagānivapāvakaḥ ।।6.104.24।।

sāyakānanatarikaṣasathāna rāghavaḥkarōdhamāharata ।।6.104.25।।


rāghavaḥ Raghava, śūlasamasaparaśacūraṇitāna trident touching the arrows and crushed to powder, anatarikaṣasathāna in the sky, bhasamasādabhūtāna reduced to ashes, tāna those, sāyakāna arrows, dṛṣaṭavā seeing, karōdhama anger, āharata was overcome

Rama was overcome with fury on seeing his arrows being crushed to powder in the sky on touching the trident and reduced to ashes.
sa tāṅmātalinānītāṅśakatiṅvāsavasamamatāma .

jagarāhaparamakarudadhōrāghavōraghunanadanaḥ ।।6.104.26।।


raghunanadanaḥ enhancer of joy of Raghus, saḥ he, rāghavaḥ Raghava, paramakarudadhaḥ very angry, mātalinā Matali, ānītāma brought by, vāsavasamamatāma built by esteemed Indra, tāṅśakatima that javelin, jagarāha raised

Raghava, the enhancer of the joy of Raghus, lifted up the javelin brought by Matali, esteemed by Indra.
sātōlitābalavatāśakatiraghaṇaṭākṛtasavanā .

nabhaḥparajavālayāmāsayugānatōlakēvasaparabhā ।।6.104.27।।


balavatā mighty, tōlitā lifted up, ghaṇaṭākṛtasavanā rendered sonorous by bells, sāśakatiḥ that javelin, saparabhā its radiance, yugānatōlakēva at the end of the universe, nabhaḥ sky, parajavālayāmāsa lit up sky brightly like meteor

When mighty Rama lifted up that javelin, it rendered sonorous sounds of bells and lit up the sky like a meteor at the end of the universal dissolution.
sākaṣipatārākaṣasēnadarasayatasaminakūlēpapāta ha .

bhinanaḥśakatayāmahāna śūlōnipapātahatadayutiḥ ।।6.104.28।।


sā that, kaṣipatā glowing, rākaṣasēnadarasaya Rakshasa king's, tasamina śūlē that trident, nipapāta ha fell, mahāna great, śūlaḥ trident, śakatayā with javelin, bhinanaḥ broken, hatadayutiḥ lost its splendour, nipapāta fell down

With the hurling of the javelin by Rama at the great trident of Ravana and on (the javelin) touching the trident, it was broken, lost its splendour and fell down.
nirabhibhēdatatōbāṇairahayānasayamahājavāna .

rāmasatarīkaṣaṇairamahāvēgairabhāṇavadabhirajihamagaiḥ ।।6.104.29।।


tataḥ then, rāmaḥ Rama, tīkaṣaṇaiḥ sharp, mahāvēgaiḥ of great speed, bāṇavadabhiḥ shower of arrows, ajihamagaiḥ straight into, bāṇaiḥ arrows, mahājanāna multitude, asaya its, hayāna horses, nirabhibhēda shattered

Rama then released arrows endowed with great speed, shower of multitude of arrows straight into the horses of Ravana and shattered them.
nirabibhēdōrapitadārāvaṇaṅniśitaiśaśaraiḥ .

rāghavaḥparamāyatatōlalāṭēpataratibhisataribhiḥ ।।6.104.30।।


rāghavaḥRaghava, tadā then, niśitaiḥ sharp, śaraiḥ arrows, rāvaṇama Ravana's, urasi chest, nirabibhēda pierced, paramāyatataḥ with great effort, taribhiḥ three, pataratibhiḥ sharp, lalāṭē forehead

Raghava pierced into the chest of Ravana sharp arrows and with great effort three sharp arrows on the forehead.
sa śarairabhinanasaravāṅagōgātaraparasṛtaśōṇitaḥ .

rākaṣasēnadarasasamūhasathaḥphulalāśōkaivābabhau ।।6.104.31।।


śaraiḥ arrows, bhinanasaravāṅagaḥ pierced all over the limbs, gātaraparasṛtaśōṇitaḥ blood flowing from limbs, saḥ he, rākaṣasēnadaraḥ Rakshasa king, samūhasathaḥ in the gathering, phulalāśōkaḥiva like Ashoka tree, ababhau appeared

Pierced all over the limbs with arrows, blood flowing from the limbs, he (Rakshasa king) appeared like an Ashoka tree in the gathering.
sa rāmabāṇairatividadhagātarōniśācarēnadaraḥkaṣatajāradaragātaraḥ .

jagāmakhēdaṅ ca samājamadhayēkarōdhaṅ ca cakarēsubhṛśaṅtadānīma ।।6.104.32।।


rāmabāṇaiḥ by Rama's arrows, atividadhagātaraḥ pierced all over the body, kaṣatajāradharagātaraḥ body bathed in blood, saḥ he, niśācarēnadaraḥ king of Rakshasas, samājamadhayē in the midst of the gathering, khēdama sorrowful, jagāma became, tadānīma at the same time, subhṛśama violent, karōdhaṅ ca and anger, cakarē was overcome

Pierced all over the body with Rama's arrows, body bathed in blood, the king of Rakshasas in the midst of gathering of Rakshasas, was sorrowful but at the same time, he was overcome with violent anger.

This is the end of the hundred and fourth sarga of Yuddha Kanda of the first epic the holy Ramayana composed by sage Valmiki.
