[Rama uses Brahmastra and kills Ravana. The terror of all worlds killed. Charanas and Devas were filled with joy.]

athasaṅsamārayāmāsamātalirāghavaṅtadā .

ajānananivakiṅvīratavamēnamanuvaratasē ।।6.111.1।।


atha and tadā then, mātaliḥ Matali, rāghavama to Raghava, saṅsamārayāmāsa reminded, vīra hero, ajānananiva as if you don't know, tavama you, ēnama in that way, kima why, anuvaratasē are you doing

Matali reminded Rama in this way," O heroic Rama, why are you doing this way, as if you do not know?"
visṛjāsamaivadhāyatavamasataraṅpaitāmahaṅparabhō .

vināśakālaḥkathitōḥyaḥsuraiḥsō.dayavaratatē ।।6.111.2।।


parabhō king, tavama you, vadhāya destruction, asamai you, paitāmahama creator Brahma, asatarama missile, visṛja use, suraiḥ Suras, yaḥ they, vināśakālaḥ for the destruction, kathitaḥ spoken, saḥ he, adaya now, varatatē use

"O king! As spoken by Suras, the destruction of Ravana has come now. Use the missile of the creator Brahma."
tataḥsaṅsamāritōrāmasatēnavākayēnamātalēḥ .

jagarāha sa śaraṅdīpataṅniḥśavasanatamivōragama ।।6.111.3।।

yaṅtasamaiparathamaṅparādādagasatayōbhagavānṛṣiḥ .

barahamadatataṅmahābāṇamamōghaṅyudhivīrayavāna ।।6.111.4।।

Suggested and reminded by Matali, valiant Sri Rama seized hold of the wonderful glowing arrow, bestowed by Brahma, and given by the divine to sage Agastya first. Breathing heavily, like a serpent, Rama seized the arrow.
barahamaṇāniramitaṅpūravaminadarārathamamitaujasā .

datataṅsurapatēḥpūravaṅtarilōkajayakāṅakaṣiṇaḥ ।।6.111.5।।

yasayavājēṣupavanaḥphalēpāvakabhāsakarau .

śarīramākāśamayaṅgauravēmērumanadarau ।।6.111.6।।


yasaya its, vājēṣu feathers, pavanaḥ presided by wind god, phalē head, pāvakabhāsakarau presided by fire and Sun god, gauravē energy, mērumanadarau Meru and Mandara presided over, śarīrama body, ākāśamayama like sky

The wind god presided over its feathers, the fire god and the Sun god presided over its head, its energy was presided over by Meru and Mandara mountains and its weight by the sky.
jājavalayamānaṅvapuṣāsupuṅakhaṅhēmabhūṣitama .

tējasāsaravabhūtānāṅkṛtaṅbhāsakaravaracasama ।।6.111.7।।


vapuṣā form, jājavalayamānama shining, supuṅakhama the feathers, hēmabhūṣitamadecked with gold, saravabhūtānāma all beings, tējasā splendid, kṛtama crafted, bhāsakaravaracasama like the Sun in brilliance

Its form was shining with feathers, decked with gold, splendid with all elements and brilliant like the sun.
sadhūmamivakālānagiṅdīpatamāśīviṣōpamama .

naranāgāśavavṛdadhānāṅbhēdanaṅkaṣiparakāriṇama ।।6.111.8।।


sadhūmama its fire, kālānagima iva like the universal dissolution, dīpatama burning, aśīviṣōpamama like the venomous serpent, naranāgaraśavavṛdadhānāma hosts of men, elephants, horses of enemies, bhēdanama splitting, kaṣiparakāriṇama quick in action

Like fire at the time of dissolution of the universe, burning like venomous serpent, capable of splitting hosts of enemy, men, elephants, and horses and quick in action.

Strong as thunderbolt, loud sounding, dispersing every deceitful kind of army, frightening to all kinds of beings, hissing like a serpent.
kaṅakagṛdharabakānāṅ ca gōmāyugaṇarakaṣasāma .

nitayaṅbhakaṣaparadaṅyudadhēyamarūpaṅbhayāpahama ।।6.111.11।।


yudadhē in war, kaṅakagṛdharābakānāṅ ca buzzards, vultures, herons kōmāyugaṇarakaṣasāma jackals and Rakshasas, nitayama always, bhakaṣaparadama provider of food, yamarūpama form of Yama, bhayāvahama causing terror

In war, it provides food for buzzards, vultures, and herons, and also jackals and Rakshasas, causing terror in the form of Yama (God of death).
nanadanaṅvānarēnadarāṇāṅrakaṣasāmavasādanama .

vājitaṅvividhairavājaiśacārucitarairagarutamataḥ ।।6.111.12।।


vānarēnadarāṇāma for Vanara chiefs, nanadanama delight, rakaṣasāma for Rakshasas, avasādanama causes destruction, garutamataḥ for eagles, citaraiḥ picturesque, vividhaiḥ several, vājaiḥ for arrows, vājitama plumes

Provides delight for Vanara chiefs, causes destruction of Rakshasas, provides picturesque plumes of eagles to arrows.
tamutatamēṣuṅlōkānāmikaṣavākubhayanāśanama .

daviṣatāṅkīratiharaṇaṅparaharaṣakaramātamanaḥ ।।6.111.13।।

abhimanatayatatōrāmasataṅmahēṣuṅmahābalaḥ .

vēdaparōkatēnavidhināsanadadhēkāramukēbalī ।।6.111.14।।


mahābalaḥ mighty, balī strong, rāmaḥ Rama, lōkānāma of the world, utatamēṣuma great arrow, ikaṣavākubhayanāśanama dispellar of fear for Ikshvaku, daviṣatāma of enemies, kīratiharaṇama takes away the glory, ātamanaḥ own, paraharaṣaṇama delighting, tama that, mahēṣuma great arrow, vēdaparōkatēna chanting vedas, vidhinā as tradition, abhimanatayara charging with mystic power, kāramukē bow, sanadadhē fitted

The great arrow, was a dispeller of fear of enemies to Ikshvaku kings, which takes away the glory of enemies, delighting to oneself, chanting vedas as per tradition, charging with mystic power, mighty strong Rama fitted to the bow.
tasamina sadhanīyamānēturāghavēṇaśarōtatamē .

saravabhūtānisanatarēsuśacacāla ca vasunadharā ।।6.111.15।।


rāghavēṇa by Raghava, tasamina his own, śarōtatamē excellent arrow, sadhanīyamānē started fixing, saravabhūtāni all beings, sanatarēṣu terrified, vasunadharā earth, cacāla shook

As Raghava started fixing his excellent arrow, all beings got terrified and the earth shook.
sa rāvaṇāyasaṅarudadhōbhṛśamāyamayakāramukama .

cikaṣēpaparamāyatataḥśaraṅmaramavidāraṇama ।।6.111.16।।


saṅakarudadhaḥ very furious, saḥ he, kāramukama bow, bhṛśama fully, āyamaya stretched, paramāyatataḥ very well prepared, maramavidāraṇama capable of tearing into vital parts, śarama arrow, rāvaṇāya on Ravana, cikaṣēpa released

Rama, provoked by anger, stretched the bow to full length, very well prepared, released the arrow on Ravana, which was capable of tearing into the vital parts.
sa vajaraivaduradharaṣōvajaribāhuvisarajitaḥ .

kṛtānataivacāvārayōnayapatadarāvaṇōrasi ।।6.111.17।।


vajaribāhuvisarajitaḥ released from thunderbolt hurled by the arm of Indra, vajaraḥiva like thunderbolt, duradharaṣaḥ difficult, kṛtānataḥiva capable of bringing to an end, avārayaḥ prevent, saḥ that, rāvaṇōrasi into Ravana's chest, nayapatata penetrated

Like the thunderbolt hurled by the arm of Indra, difficult to obstruct, capable of bringing life to an end, that arrow released by Rama penetrated into Ravana's chest.
sa visṛṣaṭōmahāvēgaśaśarīrānatakaraśaśaraḥ .

cicachēdahṛdayaṅtasayarāvaṇasayadurātamanaḥ ।।6.111.18।।


visṛṣaṭaḥ loosed, mahāvēgaḥ high velocity śarīrānatakaraḥ putting an end to the body, saḥśaraḥ that arrow, durātamanaḥ evil minded, tasaya his, rāvaṇasaya Ravana's, hṛdayama heart, bibhēda split as under

Loosed at high velocity, that arrow capable of putting an end to the body, split as under the heart of evil-minded Ravana
rudhirākatasasavēgēnaśarīrānatakaraḥśaraḥ .

rāvaṇasayaharanaparāṇānavivēśadharaṇītalama ।।6.111.19।।


śarīrānatakaraḥ capable of putting an end to the body, saḥśaraḥ that arrow, vēgēna speedily, rāvaṇasaya Ravana's, parāṇāna life, harana took out, rudhirākataḥ smeared with blood, dharaṇītalama into the ground, vivēśa entered

That arrow which was capable of putting an end to the body took out Ravana's life and smeared with blood, it entered the earth.
sa śarōrāvaṇaṅhatavārudhirāradarīkṛtacachaviḥ .

kṛtakaramānibhṛtavatasavatūṇīṅpunarāviśata ।।6.111.20।।


saḥśaraḥ that arrow, rāvaṇama Ravana, hatavā on killing, rudhirāradarīkṛtacachaviḥ soaked in blood, kṛtakaramā having accomplished the task, nibhṛtavata quietly, savatūṇīma its quiver, punaḥ again, aviśata re-entered

That arrow of Rama, on killing Ravana, soaked in blood, having accomplished the task quietly re-entered its quiver.
tasayahasatādadhatasayāśukāramukaṅ ca sasāyakama .

nipapātasahaparāṇairabharaśayamānasayajīvitāta ।।6.111.21।।


hatasaya killed, jīvitāta life, bharaśayamānasaya fallen from, tasaya his, hasatāta hand, sasāyakama arrow, kāramukama bow, āśu with, parāṇaiḥsaha with life breath, nipapāta fell

Thus, when Ravana was killed and lost his life, the bow and arrow in his hand also fell along with his life breath.
gatāsurabhīmavēgasatunairṛtēnadarōmahādayutiḥ .

papātasayanadanādabhūmauvṛtarōvajarahatōyathā ।।6.111.22।।


bhīmavēgaḥ terrific speed, mahādayutiḥ courageous, nairṛtēnadaraḥ king of Rakshasas, gatāsuḥ having gone, vajarahataḥ killed by thunderbolt, vṛtaraḥyathā Vrttra, sayanadanāta when struck down, bhūmau on earth, papāta fell

The king of Rakshasas, who possessed terrific speed and courage, having lost life, fell on earth like Vrttra struck down by thunderbolt.
taṅdṛṣaṭavāpatitaṅbhūmauhataśēṣāniśācarāḥ .

hatanādhābhayatarasatāsasaravatasasamaparadudaruvuḥ ।।6.111.23।।


bhūmau on earth surface, patitama fallen, tama that, dṛṣaṭavā seeing, hataśēṣāḥ left after killing, niśācarāḥ night rangers, hatanāthāḥ Lord killed, bhayatarasatāḥ fearing, saravataḥ all over, samaparadudaruvuḥ ran

Seeing their Lord killed and fallen on the ground, the leftover night rangers fled all over in fear.
saravataśacābhipētusatānavānarādarumayōdhinaḥ .

daśagarīvavadhaṅdṛṣaṭavāvānarājitakāśinaḥ ।।6.111.24।।


darumayōdhinaḥ holding trees, vānarāḥ Vanaras, tāna they, saravataḥall sides, abhipētuḥ roaming, daśagarīvavadhama killed ten headed Ravana, dṛṣaṭavā seeing, vānarāḥ Vanaras, jitakāśinaḥ triumphant

Seeing Ravana killed, the Vanaras holding trees went roaming on all sides, feeling triumphant.
araditāvānarairabharaṣaṭālaṅakāmabhayapatana bhayāta .

hatāśarayātavātakaruṇairabhāṣapaparasaravaṇairamukhaiḥ ।।6.111.25।।


vānaraiḥ by Vanaras, araditāḥ hurt, bharaṣaṭāḥ lost battle, bhayāta out of fear, hatāśarayatavāta their king being killed, karuṇaiḥ piteous, bāṣapaparasaravaṇaiḥ eyes filled with tears, mukhaiḥ face, laṅakāma Lanka, abhayapatana went towards

The Rakshasas hurt by the Vanaras, lost battle and their king killed, were piteous and went towards Lanka in fear, eyes filled with tears.
tatōvinēduḥsamahṛṣaṭāvānarāḥjitakāśinaḥ .

vadanatōrāghavajayaṅrāvaṇasaya ja tadavadhama ।।6.111.26।।


tataḥ then, jitakāśinaḥ feeling triumphant, vānarāḥ Vanaras, samahṛṣaṭāḥ highly delighted, rāghavajayama Rama's victory, rāvaṇasaya Ravana's, tadavadhaṅ ca death of Ravana, vadanataḥ shouted, vinēduḥ in joy

Then the Vanaras, feeling triumphant, got highly excited over Rama's victory and the death of Ravana, and shouted aloud in joy.
athānatarikaṣēvayanadatasaumayasataridaśadunadhubhiḥ .

divayaganadhaśahasatataramārutasasusukōvavau ।।6.111.27।।


atha and now, anatarikaṣē in the sky, saumayāḥ gods, taridaśadunadhubhiḥ thirty drums, vayanadata sounded, tatara there, divayaganadhavahaḥ divine fragrance, susukhaḥ pleasant, mārutaḥ breeze, vavau blew

And then thirty drums of gods sounded in the sky. Divine fragrant pleasant breeze blew.
nipapātānatarikaṣācacapuṣapavṛṣaṭisatadābhuvi .

kiranatīrāghavarathaṅduravāpāmanōharā ।।6.111.28।।


tadā then, anatarikaṣāta from the heaven, rāghavarathama on Raghava's chariot, kiranatī covering, duravāpā difficult to find out, manōharā very pleasing, puṣapavṛṣaṭiḥ shower of flowers, bhuvi on earth, nipapāta fell

Then from heaven, a very pleasing shower of flowers, difficult to know from where, fell on Raghava's chariot covering it and dropped on the ground.
rāghavasatavasaṅyukatāgaganē ca viśuśaruvē .

sādhusādhavitivāgagayarādēvatānāṅmahātamanāma ।।6.111.29।।


mahātamanāma great soul, dēvatānāma gods too, sādhusādhuiti well done well done, rāghavasatavasaṅyukatā praised Rama, agayarā the foremost, vāka words, gaganē in the heaven, viśuśaruvē ca heard

The gods too praised Sri Rama, the great soul saying, 'Well done, Well done', from the heaven, which was distinctly heard.
avivēśamahāna haraṣōdēvānāṅcāraṇaiḥsaha .

rāvaṇēnihatēraudarēsaravalōkabhayaṅakarē ।।6.111.30।।


raudarē terror, saravalōkabhayaṅakarē of all worlds, rāvaṇē Ravana, nihatē killed, cāraṇaiḥ Charanas, dēvānāma Devas, mahāna great, haraṣaḥ joy, avivēśa filled

When Ravana, a terror of all worlds was killed, the Charanas and Devas were filled with great joy.
tataḥsakāmaṅsugarīvamaṅagadaṅ ca vibhīṣaṇama .

cakārarāghavaḥparītōhatavārākaṣasapuṅagavama ।।6.111.31।।


rāghavaḥ Raghava, rākaṣasapuṅagavama foremost of the Rakshasas, hatavā killed, parītaḥ pleased, rāghavaḥ Raghava, sugarīvama Sugriva, aṅagadaṅ ca and Angada, vibhīṣaṇaṅ ca Vibheeshana also, sakāmama their desire fulfilled, cakāra made them happy

The foremost of the Rakshasas killed, Raghava was pleased and having fulfilled the desire of Sugriva, Angada, Vibheeshana, he made them happy.
tataḥparajagamuḥparaśamaṅmarudagaṇādiśaḥparasēduravimalaṅnabhō.bhavata .

mahīcakamapē na ca mārutōvavausathiraparabhaśacāpayabhavadadivākaraḥ ।।6.111.32।।


tataḥ then, marudagaṇāḥ hosts of gods, paraśamama tranquil, parajagamuḥ attained, diśaḥ quarters, parasēduḥ brightened, nabhaḥ sky, vimalama clear, abhavata became, mahī earth, na cakamapē no longer shook, mārutaḥ wind, vavau blew, divākaraḥcāpi even the Sun, sathiraparabhaḥ steady radiance, abhavata became

Then the host of gods attained tranquil, quarters brightened, sky became clear, earth no longer shook, wind blew and even the Sun became steady and radiant.
tatasatusugarīvavibhīṣaṇāṅagadāḥsuhṛdaviśiṣaṭāsasahalakaṣamaṇāsatadā .

samētayahṛṣaṭāvijayēnarāghavaṅraṇē.bhirāmaṅvidhinābhayapūjayana ।।6.111.33।।


tataḥ then, suhṛdaviśiṣaṭāḥ coming together, sahalakaṣamaṇāḥ accompanied by Lakshmana, sugarīvavibhīṣaṇāṅagadāḥ Sugriva, Vibheeshana, and Angada, raṇē in the battle, vijayēna by the victory, hṛṣaṭāḥ happy, abhirāmama charming, rāmama Rama, samētaya friends together, tadā then, vidhinā as tradition goes, abhayapūjayana offered prayers

Then all of them (hosts of gods) coming together, accompanied by Lakshmana, Sugriva, Vibheeshana, and Angada along with other friends, happy about the victory in the battle offered prayers to charming Sri Rama in accordance with tradition.
sa tunihataripusasathiraparatijañaḥsavajanabalābhivṛtōraṇērarāja .

raghukulanṛpananadanōmahaujāsataridaśagaṇairabhisaṅvṛtōyathēnadaraḥ ।।6.111.34।।


nihataripuḥ enemy dead, sathiraparatijañaḥ steadfast in his vow, mahaujāḥ endowed with great prowess, raghukulanṛpananadanaḥ enhancer of the joy of Raghu race, saḥ he, raṇē battlefield, savajanabalābhivṛtaḥ surrounded by his people and army, mahēnadaraḥiva like Indra, rarāja shone

Sri Rama, who was steadfast in his vow and endowed with great prowess, having killed his enemy, in the battle, stood, surrounded by his people and the army. Sri Rama the enhancer of joy of Raghus shone like Indra surrounded by host of gods.
।। itayāraṣēvālamīkīyēśarīmadarāmāyaṇēādikāvayēyudadhakāṇaḍēēkādaśōtataraśatatamasasaragaḥ ।।
