[Lamentation of Ravana's consorts on seeing his dead body.]

rāvaṇaṅnihataṅdṛṣaṭavārāghavēṇamahātamanā .

anataḥpurādaviniṣapētūrākaṣasayaśaśōkakaraśitāḥ ।।6.113.1।।

mahātamanā great soul, rāghavēṇa by Raghava, rāvaṇama Ravana, nihatama killed, dṛṣaṭavā seeing, rākaṣasayaḥ Rakshasas, śōkakaraśitāḥ stricken with grief, anataḥpurāta from the gynaeceum, viniṣapētuḥ rushed out

On seeing Ravana killed by the great soul Raghava, the Rakshasas from the gynaeceum stricken with grief rushed out.

vārayamāṇāsasubahuśōvēṣaṭanatayaḥkaṣitipāṅsuṣu .

vimukatakēśayaśaśōkāratāgāvōvatasahatāyathā ।।6.113.2।।

subahuśō: numerous Rakshasa women, vārayamāṇāḥ obstructed, kaṣitipāṅsuṣu rolling in dust, vēṣaṭanatayaḥ encompassing, vimukatakēśayaḥ dishevelled, vatasahatāḥ young ones lost, gāvaḥyathā like cows, śōkāratāḥ crying

Numerous women, though obstructed, were rolling in dust, with dishevelled hair and crying like cows which had lost their calves.

utatarēṇaviniṣakaramayadavārēṇasaharākaṣasaiḥ .

paraviśayāyōdhanaṅghōraṅvicinavanatavōhataṅpatima ।।6.113.3।।

ārayaputarētivādinayōhānāthēti ca saravaśaḥ .

paripētuḥkabanadhāṅakāṅmahīṅśōṇitakaradamāma ।।6.113.4।।

rākaṣasaiḥsaha along with Rakshasas, utatarēṇadavārēṇa northern gate, viniṣakaramaya coming out, hatama killed, patima husbands, vicinavanatavaḥ crying, ghōrama dreadful, ayōdhanama battlefield, paraviśaya entered, ārayaputarēti O son, hānāthēti ha husband, vādinayaḥ speaking, kabanadhāṅakāma trunks, śōṇitakaradamāma soaked in blood and mud, mahīma on ground, saravaśaḥ all over, paripētuḥwent about

The Rakshasa women along with Rakshasas came out of the north gate and entered the battlefield screaming 'O son', 'O husband' and crying, seeing the trunks soaked in blood and mud on the ground and went about all over.

tābāṣapaparipūraṇākaṣayōbharatṛśōkaparājitāḥ .

karēṇavaivanaradanatayōvinēdurahatayūthapāḥ ।।6.113.5।।

bāṣapaparipūraṇākaṣayaḥ eyes filled with tears, bharatṛśōkaparijātāḥ on account of grief for their husbands, tāḥ they, hatayūthapāḥ leader lost, karēṇavaḥiva like female elephant, naradanatayaḥ bellowing, vinēduḥ roared

Bellowing like female elephants that had lost their husbands, the women roared eyes filled with tears on account of grief for their husbands.

dadṛśusatāmahākāyaṅmahāvīrayaṅmahādayutima .

rāvaṇaṅnihatamabhūmaunīlāñajanacayōpamama ।।6.113.6।।

tāḥ they, mahākāyama gigantic body, mahāvīrayama extraordinary valour, mahādayutima full of splendor, nīlāñajanacayōpamama like heap of dark mountain, nihatama killed, bhūmau on the ground, dadṛśuḥ looked

They looked at the gigantic body of Ravana of extraordinary valour, full of splendor, killed and lying like a heap of dark mountain on the ground.

tāḥpatiṅsahasādṛṣaṭavāśayānaṅraṇapāṅsuṣu .

nipētusatasayagātarēṣuchinanāvanalatāiva ।।6.113.7।।

tāḥ they, raṇapāṅsuṣu in the battlefield, śayānama lying, patima husband, sahasā precipitately, dṛṣaṭavā seeing, chinanāḥ broken, vanalatāiva like creepers in a garden, tasaya his, gātarēṣu limbs, nipētuḥ fallen

In the battlefield they saw their husband lying, and precipitately fell on his limbs like broken creepers in a garden.

bahumānātapariṣavajayakācidēvaṅrurōda ha .

caraṇaukācidālamabayakācitakaṇaṭhē.valamabaya ca ।।6.113.8।।

kācita indeed, bahumānāta out of great respect, ēnama they, pariṣavajaya embracing, rurōda ha roared aloud, kācita some, caraṇau feet, ālamabaya holding, kācita some, kaṇaṭhē neck, avalamabaya ca started weeping

Indeed, out of respect some embraced him and roared aloud, some held his feet and wept, some held his neck and started weeping.

utakaṣipaya ca bhujaukācidabhūmausuparivaratatē .

hatasayavadanaṅdṛṣaṭavākācinamōhamupāgamata ।।6.113.9।।

kācita some, bhujau arms, utakaṣipaya throwing herself on ground, bhūmau on ground, suparivaratatē rolled, kācita some, hatasaya killed, vadanama face, dṛṣaṭavā seeing, mōhama in delusion, upāgamata holding

Some lifting their arms threw themselves on ground, some rolled, some beholding the dead Ravana's face became deluded.

kācidaṅakēśiraḥkṛtavārurōdamukhamīkaṣatī .

sanāpayanatīmukhaṅbāṣapaisatuṣārairivapaṅakajama ।।6.113.10।।

kācita some, śiraḥ head, aṅakē lap, kṛtavā holding, mukhama face, īkaṣatī looking, tuṣāraiḥ nature sheds dew, paṅakajama iva like from lotus, mukhama face, bāṣapaiḥ tears, sanāpayanatī flowed, rurōda roared

One held his head on her lap, and one held his face and looking at it shed tears, like nature covers lotus with dew and roared.

ēvamāratāḥpatiṅdṛṣaṭavārāvaṇaṅnihataṅbhuvi .

cukaruśurabhahudhāśōkādabhūyasatāḥparayadēvayana ।।6.113.11।।

bhuvi on the ground, nihatama killed, patima husband, rāvaṇama Ravana, dṛṣaṭavā beholding, ēvama in that manner, āratāḥ afflicted, tāḥ they, bahudhā many, cukaruśuḥ again and again, śōkāta in sorrow, bhūyaḥ exceedingly, parayadēvayana overcome with grief

Afflicted on beholding their husband Ravana, killed, and lying on the ground, the Rakshasa women again and again cried exceedingly in many ways overcome with grief.

yēnamitarāsitaḥśakarōyēnavitarāsitōyamaḥ .

yēnavaiśaravaṇōrājāpuṣapakēṇaviyōjitaḥ ।।6.113.12।।

ganadharavāṇāmṛṣīṇāṅ ca surāṇāṅ ca mahātamanāma .

bhayaṅyēnaraṇēdatataṅsō.yaṅśētēraṇēhataḥ ।।6.113.13।।

yēna to whom, śakaraḥ Indra, vitarāsitaḥ feared, yēna to whom, yamaḥ Yama, vitarāsitaḥ feared, yēna to whom, rājā king, vaiśaravaṇaḥ Visrava, puṣapakēṇa Pushpaka, viyōjitaḥ used by winning, yēna to whom, raṇē in war, ganadharavāṇāma Gandharvas, ṛṣīṇāṅ ca and ascetics, mahātamanāma high souled, surāṇāṅ ca and Suras, bhayama fear, datatama bestowed, saḥayama he this, raṇē battlefield, sataḥ lies, śētē asleep

"By whom Indra feared, by whom Yama feared, at whom king Visrava feared, by whom Pushpaka was deprived to Kubera in war, by whom Gandharvas and ascetics were afraid of, by whom high souled Suras were afraid of lies in the battlefield asleep."

asurēbhayaḥsurēbhayōvāpananagēbhayō.pivātathā .

bhayaṅyō na vijānātitasayēdaṅmānuṣāda bhayama ।।6.113.14।।

yaḥ he who, asurēbhayaḥ from Asuras, surēbhayōvā or Suras, tathā so also, pananagēbhayō.pi Uragas also, bhayama fear, na vijānāti not known, tasaya his, mānuṣāta by human, idama thus, bhayama experienced fear

"He, who did not know fear from Asuras or Uragas, experienced fear from a mortal."

avadhayōdēvatānāṅyasatathādānavarākaṣasāma .

hataḥsō.yaṅraṇēśētēmānuṣēṇapadātinā ।।6.113.15।।

yaḥ he who, dēvatānāma Devatas, tathā so also, dānavarakaṣanāma Danavas, Rakshasas, avadhayaḥ not be killed, saḥayama he, padātinā by walk, mānuṣēṇa by a mortal, raṇē in battle, hataḥ killed, śētē lies asleep

"He, whom Devatas, Danavas and Rakshasas could not kill, lies asleep, killed by a mortal who came by walk."

yō na śakayasasurairahanatuṅ na yakaṣairanāsuraisatathā .

sō.yaṅkaśacidivāsatatavōmṛtayuṅmaratayēnalamabhitaḥ ।।6.113.16।।

yaḥ he who, suraiḥ Suras, hanatuma to kill, na śakayaḥ not possible, yakaṣai: Yaksha, na not, tathā so also, asuraiḥ Asuras, na not, saḥ he, ayama this, asatatavaḥ weak, kaśacidiva like one devoid of strength, maratayēna by death, mṛtayuma death, lamabhitaḥ resting

"He, who could not be killed by Suras, Asuras or Yakshas, such a hero lies like a weak person devoid of strength, killed by a mortal, is resting."

ēvaṅvadanatayōrurudusatasayatāduḥkhitāḥsatariyaḥ .

bhūyaēva ca duḥkhāratāvilēpuśacapunaḥpunaḥ ।।6.113.17।।

tasaya his, duḥkhitāḥ grieving, tāḥsatariyaḥēvama those women in that way, vadanataya: roaring, ruruduḥ aloud, bhūyaḥēva ca lamented again, duḥkhāratāḥ afflicted with sorrow, punaḥpunaḥ again and again, vilēpuḥ cried

Those women grieving in that way roared aloud, lamenting again and again cried, afflicted by sorrow.

aśṛṇavatātusuhṛdāṅsatataṅhitavādināma .

maraṇāyahṛtāsītārākaṣasāśacanipātitāḥ ।।6.113.18।।

ētāsasamamidānīṅtēvayamātamā ca pātitaḥ .

satatama always, hitavādināma your welfare, suhṛdāma dear and good at heart, aśavaṇavatā not listened, maraṇāya death, sītā Sita, āhṛtā brought, rākaṣasāśaca Rakshasas, nipātitāḥ struck down, ātamā ca yourself, pātitaḥ destroyed, samama at a time, tē to you, ētāḥvayama all of us, idānīma this way

"You did not listen to the good advice of your dear and good at heart. You brought Sita and destroyed yourself and all of us at a time."

baruvāṇō.pihitaṅvākayamiṣaṭōbharātāvibhīṣaṇaḥ ।।6.113.19।।

dhṛṣaṭaṅparuṣitōmōhatatavayātamavathakāṅakaṣiṇā .

hitama good, vākayama words, baruvāṇō.pi even though told, iṣaṭaḥbharātā dear brother, vibhīṣaṇaḥ Vibheeshana, dhṛṣaṭama evidently, ātamavathakāṅaṇā sought your own destruction, tavayā by you, mōhāta in delusion, paruṣitaḥ harshly

"Even though good advice was given by your dear brother Vibheeshana, in your delusion evidently you sought your own destruction."

dinirayātitātēsavāsatītārāmāyamaithilī ।।6.113.20।।

nanasasayādavayasanaṅghōramidaṅmūlaharaṅmahata .

maitilī Mythili, sītā Sita, tē to you, rāmāya Rama's, nirayātitā returned, yadisayāta if so with you, naḥ not, mūlaharama destruction of the very root, idama this, mahata great, ghōrama terrific, vayasanama calamity, na sayāta not happened

"If Sita, princess of Mithila had been returned by you, this great destruction of the very root and calamity with you and for us would not have happened."

vṛtatakāmōbhavēdabharātārāmōmitarakulaṅbhavēta ।।6.113.21।।

vayaṅcādhavivāḥsaravāḥsakamā na ca śataravaḥ .

narātā brother, vṛtatakāmaḥ desire fulfilled, bhavēta would be, rāmaḥ Rama, mitarakulama turned to be friend, bhavēta would have been, vayama our, saravāḥ all, adhavināḥ not widows, śataravaḥ ca enemy's, sakāmāḥ that desire, na not

"If your brother's desire had been fulfilled Rama would have turned to be our friend. We would not have been widows. Our enemy's desire would not have been fulfilled."

tavayāpunaranṛśaṅśaṅsēnasītāṅsaṅrunadhatābalāta ।।6.113.22।।

rākaṣasāvayamātamā ca tarayaṅtulayaṅnipātitama .

nṛśaṅsēna with evil intention, sītāma Sita, balāta forcibly, saṅrunadhatā kept under detention, tavayāpunaḥ again by you, rākaṣasāḥ Rakshasa, vayama these ātamā ca and you too, tarayama three, tulayama together, nipātitama destroyed

"With evil intention you kept Sita under detention. These Rakshasas and you and us all the three are together destroyed."

na kāmakāraḥkāmaṅvātavarākaṣasapuṅagava .

daivaṅcēṣaṭayatēsaravaṅhataṅdaivēnahanayatē ।।6.113.23।।

rākaṣasapuṅagavaḥ foremost of Rakshasas, kāmama desire, tava of yours, kāmakāraḥ acting to your will, na vā by you, saravama all, daivama divine, cēṣaṭayatē makes you do, dēvēna by divine, hatama killed, hanayatē kills

"O Foremost of Rakshasas! You have acted according to your desire alone is not sufficient as divine will make you do everything. He is killed whom destiny kills."

vānarāṇāṅvināśō.yaṅrākaṣasānāṅ ca tēraṇē .

tavacaivamahābāhō daivayōgādupāgataḥ ।।6.113.24।।

mahābāhō mighty armed, raṇē in war, vānarāṇāma Vanaras, rākaṣasānāṅ ca Rakshasas also, tava ca you too, ayama this, vināśaḥ destruction, daivayōgāta with the divine grace, upāgataḥ has come

"O mighty armed Ravana! For Vanaras, Rakshasas and you too, this destruction in this war has come by divine grace."

naivārathēna na kāmēnavikaramēṇa na cājañayā .

śakayādaivagatiralōkēnivaratayitumudayatā ।।6.113.25।।

udayatā to lift up, daivagatiḥ divine course, lōkē in the world, arathēna by wealth, nivaratayituma to stop, na śakayā not possible, kāmēna with will, na not, vikaramēṇa by prowess, na not, ājañayā ca king's order, na not

"In the world, to change the divine course of action, it is not possible with wealth, or will or by prowess or king's orders."

vilēpurēvaṅdīnāsatārākaṣasādhipayōṣitaḥ .

kurarayaivaduḥkhāratābāṣapaparayākulēkaṣaṇāḥ ।।6.113.26।।

tāḥ those, rākaṣasādhipayōṣitaḥ Ravana's wives, dīnāḥ piteously, duḥkhāratāḥ filled with grief, bāṣapaparayākulēkaṣaṇāḥ eyes dimmed with tears, kurarayaḥiva roared like Krauncha birds, ēvama in that way, vilēpuḥ wailed

The wives of Ravana wailed piteously in that manner filled with grief, eyes dimmed with tears, they roared like krauncha birds.
।। itayāraṣēvālamīkīyēśarīmadarāmāyaṇēādikāvayēyudadhakāṇaḍētarayōdaśōtataraśatatamasasaragaḥ ।।
