[Hanuman communicates the victory of Sri Rama to Sita and the message.]

itiparatisamādiṣaṭōhanūmānamārutātamajaḥ .

paravivēśapurīṅlaṅakāṅpūjayamānōniśācaraiḥ ।।6.116.1।।


iti thus, paratisamādiṣaṭaḥ commanded, mārutātamajaḥ son of Maruti, hanumāna Hanuman, niśācaraiḥ night ranger, pūjayamānaḥ offered prayers, laṅakāṅpurīma into Lanka, paravivēśa entered

Having been commanded, Hanuman offered prayers to Vibheeshana and entered Lanka.
paraviśaya capurīṅlaṅakāṅpūjayamānōniśācārai: .

tatasatēnābhayunujañātōhanumānavṛkaṣavāṭikāma ।।6.116.2।।

samaparaviśayayathānayāyaṅsītāyādavitōhariḥ .

dadaraśamṛjayāhīnāṅsātaṅakāṅrōhiṇīmiva ।।6.116.3।।

vṛkaṣamūlēnirānanadāṅrākaṣasībhiḥparīvṛtāma .

nibhṛtaḥparaṇataḥparahavasasō.bhigamayābhivādaya ca ।।6.116.4।।

The monkey, having sought the permission of Vibheeshana, entered Lanka city. Duly entering the Asoka grove, he attracted the attention of Sita, who was weak with no bath, cheerless, seated at the root of the tree, like Rohini star. After reaching the grove, he greeted Sita with folded palms and stood motionless.

vibhīṣaṇasahāyēnarāmēṇaharibhisasaha ।।6.116.8।।

nihatōrāvaṇōdēvilakaṣamaṇēna ca vīrayavāna .

"O noble lady! I am communicating delightful news to you. O Sita, a respectable lady and knowledgeable one, the victory is attained in the combat by the great soul Rama, by virtue of your strength and devotion."
rāvaṇaśacahataśaśataruralaṅakacaivavaśīkṛtā .

mayāhayalabanadidarēṇadhṛtēnatavanirajayē ।।6.116.11।।

paratijañaiṣāvinisatīraṇābadadhavāsētuṅmahōdadhau .

'Ravana has been killed, Lanka is under our side vanquished completely. Without any sleep, with forbearance, building an extensive bridge on the great ocean, the vow has been redeemed', is Rama's message to you, said Hanuman.
samabharamaśaca na karatavayōvaratanatayārāvaṇālayē ।।6.116.12।।

vibhīṣaṇavidhēyaṅhilaṅakaiśavarayamidaṅkṛtama .

tadāśavasihivisarabadhaṅsavagṛhēparivaratasē ।।6.116.13।।

ayaṅcābhayētisamahṛṣaṭasatavadadharaśanasamutasukaḥ .


tata therefore, visarabadhama be at ease, aśavasihi consoling, savagṛhē own house, parivaratasē encompassed, ayaṅhi who is, samahṛṣaṭaḥ very happy, tavadadharaśanasamutasukaḥ eager to see you, abhayēti favouring

"You be at ease, as you are living in your own abode", said Hanuman consoling Sita. 'Vibheeshana, who is very happy, is eager and favouring to see you."
ēvamukatāsamutapatayasītāśaśinibhānanā ।।6.116.14।।

paraharaṣēṇāvarudadhāsāvayāharatuṅ na śaśāka ha .

tatō.baravīdadharivaraḥsītāmaparatijalapatīma ।।6.116.15।।

kiṅtavaṅcinatayasēdēvikiṅ ca māṅnābhibhāṣasē .


tataḥ then, harivaraḥ monkey chief, aparatijalapatīma not replying, sītāma Sita, abaravīta spoke, dēvi Devi, tavama you, kima What cinatayasē thinking, māma me, kima why, nābhibhāṣasē not answering

Then seeing Sita not answering him, the monkey chief asked her" Why are you not replying. What are you thinking?"
ēvamukatāhanumatāsītādharamapathēsathitā ।।6.116.16।।

abaravītaparamaparītābāṣapagadagadayāgirā .

pariyamētadupaśarutayabharaturavijayasaṅśarayama ।।6.116.17।।

paraharaṣavaśamāpananāniravākayāsamikaṣaṇānatarama .

na hipaśayāmisadṛśaṅcinatayanatīpalavaṅagamā ।।6.116.18।।

maparatiyābayānakasayēhadātuṅparatayabhinanadanama .


palavaṅagama monkey, cinatayanatī however I think, iha here, maparatiyākhayānakasaya to please you, dātuma to give, sadṛśama befitting, paratayabhinanadanama for this happiness, na paśayāmihi not able to see

"Hanuman! However, I think to give you a befitting gift for this happy news. I am not able to see any."
nahipaśayāmitatasaumayapṛthivayāmapivānara ।।6.116.19।।

sadṛśaṅyatapariyākhayānētavadatatavābhavētasukhama .


pariyākhayāna value of your message, sadṛśama befitting, yata such, tava to you, datatavā gift, sukhama happy, bhavēta make you, sadṛśama befitting, kiñacana anything, pṛthivayāma on this earth, na hipaśayāmi not able to see

"I am not able to see on this earth, a gift befitting the value of your message, which can be given to you to make you happy."
hiraṇayaṅvāsuvaraṇaṅvāratanānivividhānica ।।6.116.20।।

rājayaṅvātariṣulōkēṣunaitadarahatibhāṣitama .


hiraṇayaṅvā gold or, suvaraṇaṅvā silver, vividhāni several, ratanāni gems, tariṣulōkēṣu in the three worlds, rājayaṅvā kingdom or, ētata all this, bhāṣitama spoken now, nārahati not equal

"Neither gold or silver or gems, not even kingdom or the three worlds are equal to what you have spoken now."
ēvamukatasatuvaidēhayāparatayuvācapalavaṅagamaḥ ।।6.116.21।।

paragṛhītāñajaliraharaṣāsatītāyāḥparamukhēsathitaḥ .

sanigadhamēvaṅvidhaṅvākayaṅtavamēvārahasayaninaditē .


bharatuḥ husband, pariyahitē welfare, yukatē such loving, bharatuḥ husband, vijayakāṅakaṣiṇa: wishing his victory, aninaditē irreproachable, sanigadhama loving, ēvaṅvidhama this manner, vākayama words, tavamēva you alone, arahasi can speak

"You alone can speak such affectionate words in this manner wishing victory and welfare of your dear husband. You are irreproachable."
tavaitadavacanaṅsaumayēsāravata sanigadhamēva ca ।।6.116.23।।

ratanaughādavividhācacāpidēvarājayādaviśiṣayatē .


saumayē gentle, tava your, sāravata meaningful, sanigadhamēva full of affection, ētata vacanama such words, vividhāta many, ratanaughāta cluster of gems, dēvarājayāta Lord of gods, viśiṣayatē higher

"O gentle one! Your meaningful words full of affection are more valuable than clusters of gems or Indra, the Lord of gods."
arathataśacamayāparāpatādēvarajayādayōguṇāḥ ।।6.116.24।।

hataśataruṅvijayinaṅrāmaṅpaśayāmisusathitama .


hataśataruma enemy killed, vijayinama victorious, susathitama happy, rāmama Rama, paśayāmi see, arathataḥ meaningful, mayā by me, dēvarājayādayaḥ rulership of gods, guṇāḥ virtues, parāpatāḥ attained

"Now that the enemy is killed, Rama is happy, which means as if I have attained the rulership of gods."
tasayatadavacanaṅśarutavāmaithilījanakātamajā ।।6.116.25।।

tataḥśubhataraṅvākayamuvācapavanātamajama .

budadhayāhayaṣaṭāṅagayāyukataṅtavamēvārahasibhāṣituma .


atilakaṣaṇasamapananama rich and full of virtuous qualities, mādhurayaguṇabhūṣitama sweet and valuable, aṣaṭāṅagayā eight excellences, budadhayā intellect, yukatama combined with, bhāṣituma language, tavamēva always, arahasi you deserve

Continuing to pay tribute to Hanuman's words, Sita said" Your language and expression are always richly endowed with virtuous qualities, sweet and valuable, combined with eight excellences. (Eight excellences are-Keenness to hear discourses, readiness to hear discourses, receptivity, retentive power, reasoning for a proposition, against a proposition, faculty of comprehension, realization of truth)."
śalāghanīyō.nilasayatavaṅsutaḥparamadhāramikaḥ ।।6.116.27।।

balaṅśaurayaṅśarutaṅsatatavaṅvikaramōdākaṣayamutatamama .

tējaḥkaṣamādhṛtisasathairayaṅvinītatavaṅ na saṅśayaḥ ।।6.116.28।।

ētēcānayē ca bahavōguṇāsatavayayēvaśōbhanāḥ .

"You are a praiseworthy son of wind god. In strength, righteousness, valour, vigour, prowess, skill, you are excellent. You are energetic, endowed with tolerance, forbearance, firmness, brilliance, and humility. You alone have many more qualities, no doubt."
athōvācapunasasītāmasamabharānatōvinītavata ।।6.116.29।।

paragṛhītāñacaliraharaṣātasītāyāḥparamukhēsathitaḥ .

hanatumicachāmitāsasaravāyābhisatavaṅtarajitāpurā .

ghōrarūpasamācārāḥkarūrāḥkarūratarēkaṣaṇāḥ .

ihaśarutāmayādēvi rākaṣasayōvikṛtānanāḥ ।।6.116.32।।

asakṛtaparuṣairavākayairavadanatayōrāvaṇājañayā .

vikṛtāvikṛtākārāḥkarūrāḥkarūrakacēkaṣaṇāḥ ।।6.116.33।।

icachāmivividhairāghatairahanatumētāsasudāruṇāḥ .

rākaṣasayōdāruṇakathāvaramētataparayacachamē ।।6.116.34।।


vikṛtāḥ distorted, vikṛtākārāḥ distorted forms, karūrāḥ cruel, karūrakacēkaṣaṇāḥ fierce eyes and terrible hair, sudāruṇāḥ terrific, dāruṇakathāḥ not to mention, how violent, ētāḥ these, rākaṣasayaḥ Rakshasas, vividhaiḥ several, ghātaiḥ strokes, hanatuma to kill, icacāmi desire, mē I, ētata all kinds, varama description, parayacacha permit

jaṅaghājānuparahāraiśacadanatānāṅcaivapīḍanaiḥ ।।6.116.35।।

bhakaṣaṇaiḥkaraṇanāsānāṅkēśānāṅluñacanaisatathā .

bhṛśaṅśuṣakamukhaiśacaivadāraṇairalaṅaghanairahataiḥ ।।6.116.36।।

vibhinanaśaṅakugarīvāṅśapāraśavakaiśacakalēvaraiḥ .

nipātayahanatumicachāmitavavipariyakāriṇīḥ ।।6.116.37।।


tava your, vipariyakāriṇī who have wronged to you, muṣaṭibhiḥfists, pāṇighātaiśaca hit with feet, viśālaiḥspreading, bāhubhiḥarms, jaṅaghājānuparahāraiśaca with blows of shanks and knees, danatānāma with teeth, pīḍanaiḥ tormenting, karaṇanāsānāma pulling out ears and nose, dhakaṣaṇaiḥgrant, tathā this, kēśānāma hair, luñacanaiḥtearing off, bhṛśama violently, śuṣakamukhaiḥcaiva making their faces dry, dāraṇaiḥ dreadful, laṅaghanaiḥ throw up/toss, hataiḥ kill, vibhinanaśaṅakugarīvāṅsapāraśavakaiḥ tear with different sharp conches, kalēvaraiḥ bodies broken necks, trunks, and heads, nipātaya throwing down, hanatuma kill, icachāmi wish to do

"These Rakshasas who have wronged, who are of dreadful appearance, I wish to hit them with fists, with feet spreading long arms, strike with blows of shanks and knees, with teeth, and torment by pulling their ears and nose. Their hair will be torn off violently, their faces will be made dry, they will be tossed up, torn with different sharp conches. Their broken bodies, heads, necks, and trunks will be thrown down and killed. Grant this boon to me."
ēvaṅparahārairabahubhiḥsaṅpaparahārayayaśasavini .

ghātayētīvararūpābhirayābhisatavaṅtarajitāpurā ।।6.116.38।।


yaśasavinī illustrious lady, purā past, tavama you, tīvararūpābhiḥ terrible form, yābhiḥ you too, tarajitā threatened, ēvama in that way, bahubhiḥ many, parahāraiḥ beating, samaparahāraya striking, ghātayē destroy

itayukatāsāhanumatākṛpaṇādīnavatasalā .

hanūmanatamuvācēdaṅcinatayitavāvimṛśaya ca ।।6.116.39।।

rājasaṅśarayavaśayānāṅkuravatīnāṅparājañayā .

vidhēyānāṅ ca dāsīnāṅkaḥkupayadavānarōtatama ।।6.116.40।।


vānarōtatama foremost of Vanaras, rājasaṅśarayavaśayānāma being under the service of the king, parājañayā others command, kuravatīnāma did as per his orders, vidhēyānāma obedient to, dāsīnāma maids, kaḥ who, kupayēta will be angry

"Foremost of Vanaras! Who will be angry? Being under the command of the king and being obedient maids, they did so according to king's order.
bhāgayavaiṣamayadōṣēṇapurasatādadhuṣakṛtēna ca .

mayaitataparāpayasaravaṅsavakṛtaṅhayupabhujayatē ।।6.116.41।।


bhāgayavaiṣamayadēṣēṇa adversary effect of my fate, purasatāta reaped, duṣakṛtēna my own fault, mayā by me, ētata all this, saravama everything, parāpayatē happened, savakṛtama by my own deed, upabhujayatēhi have to experience the result

maivaṅvadamahābāhō daivēhayēṣāparāgatiḥ .

parāpatavayaṅtudaśāyōgānamayaitaditiniśacitama ।।6.116.42।।

dāsīnāṅrāvaṇasayāhaṅmaraṣayāmīhadurabalā .

"Mighty Armed Hanuman! Do not speak in this manner. It was my fate which was supreme. Because of my predetermined circumstances I reaped such a result. I am feeble-hearted and condone the maids surely."
ājañapatārākaṣasēnēharākaṣasayasatarajayanatimāma ।।6.116.43।।

hatētasaminanakuravanatitarajanaṅmārutātamaja .

"By Ravana's order they threatened me so. Now with his death, they will not be threatening me."
ayaṅvayāgharasamīpētupurāṇōdharamasaṅhitaḥ ।।6.116.44।।

ṛkaṣēṇagītaḥśalōkō.satitaṅnibōdhapalavaṅagama .


palavaṅagama monkey, vayāgharasamīpē by the side of tiger, ṛkaṣēṇa by a bear, gītaḥ verse, purāṇaḥ old saying, dharamasaṅhitaḥ conformed with righteousness, śalōkaḥ verse, asati now, tama you, nibōdha tell

"O Monkey! In olden days a bear had uttered a verse which conforms to righteousness. I shall tell you now."
na para: pāpamādatatēparēṣāṅpāpakaramaṇāma ।।6.116.45।।

samayōrakaṣitavayasatusapataśacāritarabhūṣaṇāḥ .


parēṣāma wise man, pāpakaramaṇāma sinful actions, paraḥ of enemy, pāpama offence, nādatatē not say, samayaḥwhen time comes, rakaṣitavayaḥtu will protect, sanataḥ always, cāritarabhūṣaṇāḥ virtuous say 'good conduct as ornament '

pāpānāṅvāśubhānāṅvāvadhārahāṇāṅpalavaṅagama ।।6.116.46।।

kārayaṅkaruṇayamārayēṇa na kaśacinanāparādhayati .


pāpanāṅvā sinners, śubhānāṅvā or noble, palavaṅagama monkey, vadhārahāṇāma those who deserve death, ārayēṇa by noble souls, kāruṇayama compassion, kārayama action, kaśacita indeed, nāparādhayatiiti na none commits harm

"Sinners or noble men, having done a wrong deed and deserve death. Also noble, will show compassion and not commit harm."
lōkahiṅsāvihārāṇāṅrakaṣasāṅkāmarūpiṇāma ।।6.116.47।।

kuravatāmapipāpāninaivakārayamaśōbhanama .


lōkahiṅsāvihārāṇāma who do cruel deeds in the world, rakaṣasāma Rakshasas, kāmarūpiṇāma who assume form according their will, pāpāni sinful, kuravatāmapi even if they do sinful actions, aśōbhama sins, kārayama actions, na kārayama not to be done

"Rakshasas by nature are cruel in their deeds and can assume any form according to their will. No sinful actions to be done even if they do sinful actions."
ēvamukatasatuhanumāna sītayāvākayakōvidaḥ ।।6.116.48।।

paratayuvācatatasasītāṅrāmapatanīyaśaśavinīma .


sītayā by Sita, ēvama in this way, ukataḥhaving spoken, vākayakōvidaḥone who is good at expression, hanumāna Hanuman, tataḥ then, rāmapatanīma Rama's consort, yaśaśavinīmairreproachable one, sītāma to Sita, paratayuvāca replied as follows

Sita, having spoken that way to Hanuman, he, who was capable of good expression, replied as follows to Rama's consort, who was irreproachable.
yukatārāmasayabhavatīdharamapatanīyaśaśavinī ।।6.116.49।।

paratisanadiśamāṅdēvi gamiṣayēyatararāghavaḥ .


dēvi Devi, yaśaśavinī famous, bhavatī you are, rāmasayato Rama, yukatā right, dharamapatanī righteous wife, māma to me, paratisanadiśa message in return, rāghavaḥRaghava, yatara there, gamiṣayē will go

"Devi! you are the righteous wife of Rama and earned fame. Give me the right message to Rama in return. I will go."
ēvamukatāhanumatāvaidēhijanakātamajā ।।6.116.50।।

sābaravīdadharaṣaṭumicachāmibharatāraṅvānarōtatama .


hanumatāHanuman, ēvama in that way, ukatā spoken, janakātamajā by Janaka's daughter, sā she, vaidēhiVaidehi, abaravīta said, vānarōtatama foremost of Vanaras, bharatāramato my husband, daraṣaṭuma to see, icachāmi I desire

Hanuman, having spoken that way to Vaidehi, daughter of Janaka, she said" I desire to see my husband."
tasayāsatadavacanaṅśarutavāhanumānapavanātamajaḥ ।।6.116.51।।

haraṣayanamaithilīṅvākayamuvācēdaṅmahāmatiḥ .


mārutātamajaḥMaruti's son, mahāmatiḥ wise, hanumāna Hanuman, tasayāḥhis, tata those, vacanama words, śarutavā hearing, maithilīma Mythili, haraṣayana joy, idaṅvākayama these words, uvāca spoke.

On hearing Mythili, wise Hanuman spoke these words to her bringing joy to her.
pūraṇacanadarānanaṅrāmaṅdarakaṣayasayārayēsalakaṣamaṇama ।।6.116.52।।

sathiramitaraṅhatāmitaraṅśacīvataridaśēśavarama .


pūraṇacanadaramukhama countenance resembles moon, salakaṣamaṇama with Lakshmana, sathiramitarama with friends who are alive, hatāmitarama whose enemies are gone, rāmama Rama, śacī Sachi, taridaśēśavarama iva like Indra the Lord of gods, adaya now, darakaṣayasi will see

"Now you will see Sri Rama whose countenance resembles the moon, with Lakshmana, with friends who are alive, with friends whose enemies are gone, just as Sachi, the consort of Indra, the Lord of gods saw."
tāmēvamukatavārājanatīṅsītāṅsākaṣādivaśariyama ।।6.116.53।।

ājagāmamahāvēgōhanūmānayatararāghavaḥ .


mahāvēgō endowed with extraordinary speed, hanūmāna Hanuman, sākaṣāta as it is, śariyamiva like goddess Lakshmi, rājanatīma shining, tāma him, ēvama in that way, ukatavā having spoken, rāghavaḥRaghava, yatara there, ājagāma reached

Hanuman reached Raghava with extraordinary speed assuring Sita, who shone like Lakshmi, goddess of prosperity, and had spoken like that.
sapadiharivarasatatōhanūmāna parativacanaṅjanakēśavarātamajāyāḥ .

kathitamakathayadayathākaramēṇataridaśavaraparatimāyarāghavāya ।।6.116.54।।


tataḥ then, harivaraḥ choicest of the monkeys, hanūmāna Hanuman, sapadispeedily, kathitama message, janakēśavarātamajāyāḥ who resembled the Lord of the gods, parativacanamae very word, paratidaśavaraparatimāya delivered in return, rāghavāya to Raghava, yathākaramēṇa in the same order, akathayata in sequence

Then Hanuman, the choicest of the monkeys, speedily delivered in turn every word of the message in the same order, in sequence to Raghava, who resembled the Lord of gods.
।। itayāraṣēvālamīkīyēśarīmadarāmāyaṇēādikāvayēyudadhakāṇaḍēṣōḍaśōtataraśatatamasasaragaḥ ।।
